Hello Brit. We did our first entry las december 2017, we received our social security and green card. Now we are planning to return finally and move by march 2018. Is there a time limit for us to finally move to USA? Any special consideration ?
January 29, 2018 at 18:07
Within 12 months.
January 30, 2018 at 01:06
but I hear that we supposed to live 181 days for each year of the next 5 year to be eligible to become citizens. So After our firts entry on December 2017, we suppose to spend at least 181 days within USA after the end of our firts entry? period december 2017 – december 2018
January 30, 2018 at 06:29
Delaying the return will delay the date when you can apply for citizenship.
January 30, 2018 at 11:59
Hi Miguel Garcia.
How long did it take for your green card to arrive?
I also did my first entry to the US last December 2017 and still waiting for green card.
Greetings Mr. Brit Simon and Happy New Year to you.

January 29, 2018 at 19:00
Hi Brit,
As I already explained (spamed) you, my GF has been selected at DV2018. She has unlocked her DS260, because we’re going to get maried in 1 month. The day after we will be maried, we will update the DS260 and reupload it. What are we going to need, in order to add me to her DS260, except the weding certificate ? I don’t want any surprise…
Thank you.
January 29, 2018 at 20:05
Just the marriage certificate.
January 29, 2018 at 20:03

January 29, 2018 at 20:08
Hi Simon, while having medical as a preparation for the DV interview can I see or document my results just for personal reasons? ( I know they will give me the result in sealed envelope or they may send it directly to the embassy). Thanks!
January 29, 2018 at 20:09
You can discuss that with the physician.
January 29, 2018 at 20:22
have asked them but are not happy about it, as a patient it is my right, but in this case am not sure, my private doctor said I have to know everything, am having bad feeling because they just send it directly to the embassy. Sorry for bothering you but u r the only to relay on this whole process. Stay blessed!
January 29, 2018 at 20:31
Applying to emigrate is your choice, not a right. There are parts of the process which you have no rights to determine. So – if the panel physician says no – then it is “no”, not matter what your own doctor says.
January 29, 2018 at 21:26
hi Simon,
I’m a DV 2018 selected . My interview was on January 9, 2018. The visa has not yet been issued and i have not been contacted within the last 2 weeks of the interview. I worry about delaying the issuance of Visa? what shall i do
January 29, 2018 at 22:17
I assume you are on AP. AP times vary. You just have to be patient.
January 29, 2018 at 23:50
Hi Brit Simon thank you for your valuable support.
I arrived US before 10 days, when I was filed ds-260 I was applied to process my SSN until today I am not recivied my SSN . Due to late and I changed my address again Today I applied SSN .
It causes a problem?
What I shall I do if it’s a problem?
Thanks for your replay
January 30, 2018 at 00:15
No problem.
January 30, 2018 at 00:27
Sir,
In oder to reschedule my interview,
1) do I need to choose a convenient date that I can attend the interview or the embassy will put it at their convenient date?
2) can I reschedule within the same month?
3) does it have any effect if it’s reschedule within the same month?
January 30, 2018 at 06:32
1. They choose.
2. Up to them.
3. It is better if it is in the same month.
February 3, 2018 at 13:52
Thanks very much sir
One more question. Sir which one is more preferable?
1) to reschedule my interview because my passport is not yet ready or
2)to attend the interview and being put on AP
February 3, 2018 at 16:57
2
January 30, 2018 at 00:59
Will the SSN maild the current or previous address? Thanks
January 30, 2018 at 06:30
You applied for the SSN – so I would expect you to have asked them that.
January 30, 2018 at 08:17
Dear britsimon sir
Thank you a lot for helping people. In which cases dv winner need to repeat the biometrics test ? there is any diseases for repeating ? please sir
January 30, 2018 at 14:32
Various reasons – I can’t predict it.
January 30, 2018 at 12:09
Hello Mr. Brit, please I need guidance , I visited United Stated in October of 1995, but I don not remember the exact date, nor do I have the data of that visa because since I do not have the passport of that time, as I have to do to fill the DS 260..? Since you ask me for this information, please.
January 30, 2018 at 14:30
Approximate the dates.
January 30, 2018 at 12:16
Hi Brit. Thanks so much for all your information. I applied for an unabridged birth certificate more than 7 months ago (South Africa) and after numerous phone calls, going to the department and emails, they still haven’t processed it at Home Affairs (although they have escalated the matter as it’s long overdue). What happens if they are not in time for my visa appointment? Will I be disqualified, or will the consular give me time whilst I wait for it to come through? Thank you.
January 30, 2018 at 14:29
You will have time after the interview to provide the missing document.
February 1, 2018 at 09:32
Hi Veronica, I am also from SA, 2018dv winner. Also waiting for unabridged birth cert for almost 6 months for a member of my group. If you run into trouble, there are companies who can expedite the process for you (for a fee) .I think Postnet in Pretoria CBD can. Or Google companies online who offer the service. Good luck with your dv journey!
February 1, 2018 at 10:16
Hi Veronica and Che
I used a company called Dont-Q to obtain my unabridged documents and they were excellent.
Make sure you have a unabridged marriage certificate (if you are married) as well!
Best of luck!
February 1, 2018 at 14:43
Great thanks! Good luck to us all! Got a long wait though my side, but I’m confident my number will be called towards mid year.
January 30, 2018 at 14:01
Hello Brit, I heard that the ban is lifted from the refugees of the 11 countries. My question is:
Are the diversity visa winners the same as the refugees or the ban is still on the dv winners from banned countries.
Thanks in advance
January 30, 2018 at 14:26
The changes relate to refugees only.
January 30, 2018 at 15:16
Hey Brit,
is it possible that the main applicant is refused, and the deratives are aproved? I have seen a case in Belgium on the Chart, were it says DV1 0 Visa, DV3 1 Visa. Is it possible that only the child got approved?
January 30, 2018 at 15:45
I noticed this too and was courious. Don’t know which chart you refer to (i think monthly issuances), but i think the main aplicant so DV1 could be approved earlier, and child was on ap and got approved next month. I can see more such cases, not common, but see some. I think what i wrote above can be explanation. As we can see oct and nov one person from Belgium was approved each month and we can see them as DV1.
January 30, 2018 at 18:13
No. If the principal selectee is refused no derivative can benefit.
January 30, 2018 at 18:15
what woul be the answer to this phenomenon though? Is it how carlos explained it?
January 30, 2018 at 18:21
Maybe. You haven’t given any details of what you saw or where, so I can’t guess or investigate. The point is, what I said is certain – so there is some other explanation.
January 30, 2018 at 18:30
Well, when looking at the chart of monthly visa assurance, we can, for example in December, see that in Belgium, 0 DV1 visas were issued, while 1 DV3 visa was issued. How is that possible?
January 30, 2018 at 20:12
Carlos has given one possible explanation. Why is this important?????
January 30, 2018 at 20:51
WHY NOT!?
January 30, 2018 at 22:41
Why not what? That isn’t an answer to “Why is this important?”.
January 30, 2018 at 22:19
Take a look at the original data, page 12 – one in each DV category. A Bug maybe?
December 2017 https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/Immigrant-Statistics/MonthlyIVIssuances/DECEMBER%202017%20-%20IV%20Issuances%20by%20Post%20and%20Visa%20Class.pdf
January 30, 2018 at 15:55
Hi Brit, this is urgent. I’m the winner of dv lottery. Tomorrow is our interview with my husband and my husband got sick terrible yesterday and almost can’t move. Our interview is in another country and we have to make fast desicion. What happen if I go interview myself and take another interview day for my husband? Is that possible? Or my husband can’t get visa if he don’t go to interview with me?
January 30, 2018 at 18:14
If you attend the interview by yourself alone, your husband won’t get a visa. Sponsoring him later will be much more complicated, expensive and slow. If he *really* cannot move, then I suggest you contact the embassy and ask to reschedule.
January 30, 2018 at 16:48
Hi Brit…i arrived US on 26 Jan.2018 via Dv and today/30 Jan.2018 go to Social security Adm.to apply for SSN…but they told me to wait for 3 weeks…is it normal?

January 30, 2018 at 18:16
Yes
January 30, 2018 at 16:57
Hi brit,
I came to US as a DV lottery winner on Dec 25 2017 and i paid my green card fee on 18 Jan 2018 and i didn’t recieve it, instead i have recieved an appointment for biometric notice related to my greencard, i attended the appointment on 30 Jan 2018, when they finish biometric finger printing i told the lady i had paid my greencard fee and i came to US as a DV lottery so i asked how long will this take to recieve my greencard, she replied within one year as long your visa is valid. So do u have any idea about this case, is there any change of the government has done recently. I come from somalia does this effects mycase to delay recieving my greencard.
Thank you alot
January 30, 2018 at 18:18
There is no problem. Relax and be patient.
January 30, 2018 at 22:48
Good afternoon ! I hope you are doing well.

January 31, 2018 at 02:08
hlo simon..
Will there be any chance of rejection of visa from the counceller of embassy for diversity visa on the basis that the principal applicant has been previously rejected as a student visa about 8,9 years back?
January 31, 2018 at 02:20
Not if the previous rejection was for simple reasons.
January 31, 2018 at 02:29
the reason was not told … i just forget the word said by the councellor..will they review the previous application and see the record?.
January 31, 2018 at 03:52
Maybe.
January 31, 2018 at 02:40
Hi Brit,
When do you Af00021*** will be call for interview
January 31, 2018 at 03:52
Wait and see.
January 31, 2018 at 03:31
Hi Simon,
First of all thank you: your blog has saved me so much time. I was selected for DV 2018 and I am trying to apply for an AoS like you did.
After filing the DS-260 I have renewed my passport: should I unlock the DS-260 and update it with the new passport number? My case # is 2018EU00015**** thus my guess is that I will become current in April.
I am not sure if it is relevant, but my current visa is still in the old passport that is reported on the DS-260.
Thank you.
Matt
January 31, 2018 at 03:51
No need.
January 31, 2018 at 12:14
Hi,
I got 2NL appointment for embassy. Instructions say to register the appointment on usvisa-info.com.
On that site when I login and try to register my appointment it keeps saying “case number not ready to register”.
I emailed the listed contact email and they said basically “your number isn’t ready on the usvisa-info system”… Is this common or should I be trying to escalate in some way?
They said to keep trying for a number of days, which I have and no change. I plan to follow up with them on Friday, which is one week since my initial email, just wondered if you’ve encountered this before…
Last thing I want is for some IT error to cause an issue
Thanks!
January 31, 2018 at 14:56
Yes I have heard that before. Just do what they told you.
January 31, 2018 at 16:16
Hi
I was not aware that we had to register our appointment online…is it mandatory ?
January 31, 2018 at 19:43
Hey sophie,if you are south african please lets chat further my email is [email protected]
January 31, 2018 at 20:05
varies by embassy. They tell you if they want you to register.
January 31, 2018 at 14:46
If I request the translator at the interview it will effected to reject my visa processing?
All the other documents are available with me .Issue is my interview and I am littler bit nervous on this regard.
January 31, 2018 at 14:52
No problem
January 31, 2018 at 15:28
Thank you
January 31, 2018 at 15:29
Hi Brit, thank you so much! for your great website.
I submitted my DS-260 around May and I wrote that I am study for some exam that I was supposed to do. This is what I did and I didn’t work at that time.
After around one month, around at June I started to work at some job, but I quit after 3.5 weeks, I asked you if to update the DS-260 and you told me that I am not need. So I kept as it’s and I didn’t changed anything and I studied for the exam.
Recently, at December I started to work again (after few month that I didn’t work, because I was need to study for the exam).
Now I want to unlock the DS-260, do I need to update only the new job? Or I need to update also ‘on the way’, the work place that I worked at June for 3.5 weeks?
Thank you!! I am appreciate that.
January 31, 2018 at 15:40
If you update, make it accurate.
January 31, 2018 at 16:47
Hi brit. Is any thing wrong with my wife entering the DV lottery program as single in my absence, will it cause us any problem if we are successful.
January 31, 2018 at 18:49
If she was married and entered as single it would result in certain disqualification. Lying is a waste of time.
January 31, 2018 at 17:45
Any news on the DV Lottery luck? Do the Democrats back its scrapping?
January 31, 2018 at 18:48
No news, but DV is likely to end (AFTER DV2018)
January 31, 2018 at 19:20
Do you think, we’ll have news about DV2019 before May 15? Do you know if the merit based policy will be applied to the current types of visa or will it be a separate route?
I guess your answer will be “Wait and see”. 🙂
January 31, 2018 at 20:16
Your guess was correct.
January 31, 2018 at 19:59
Hi Simon!!
1. Should I fill in all my educations including high school and university on ds260?
2. Should I fill in all my “formal” work experiences on ds260?
3. Below is my education :
•High school—-Academic—-got Certificate of Graduate
•UniversityA—-Leave of Absent
•University B—-got Bachelor’s degree
What should I fill in the question “ Degree, Diploma or Certificate you received? “ on each of my education?
January 31, 2018 at 20:15
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Use your own judgement.
February 1, 2018 at 03:30
Hi Brit, thanks for your advising!
I didn’t finish one of university that I attended before (personel condition), should I write “ No degree, earning 1 year toward a bachelor’s degree. “ or just simply write down “ No degree.” ?
February 1, 2018 at 03:42
No degree.
February 1, 2018 at 06:09
Hi Brit, it’s me again!
My husband had attended four universities before, but three of them were drop out. Should he list them on ds260?
February 1, 2018 at 14:33
Yes
January 31, 2018 at 20:48
Please Sir, can you tell me: what if embassy tells me to to come with spouse, is it possible to have 2 appointments separately, because spouse still has to complete ds260?
January 31, 2018 at 21:32
Not normally, but as you know I expect you to discuss this with the embassy to be absolutely clear.
February 1, 2018 at 02:02
A question at the beginning of the application or pre-registration if it can be called like that, I was wrong on my birth date, that would leave me out of the process? If so, is there any way to correct it? Or if the ds-260 is the one that prevails? Thank you
February 1, 2018 at 03:43
As long as the DS260 is correct, it is normally no problem.
February 1, 2018 at 06:15
Dear Brit,
Thanks a million time for your help that you are giving to us.
When I filled the DS260 form back on May 2017, I mentioned on the work experience,
The work experience that I worked for only one organization XXXX. I worked for XXX from
2003 -2007 and again working for XXX FROM 2012 –UPTO DATE.I didn’t mentioned the other org.that I worked before 2003 and in between 2007 and 2012.
Is this has a problem on my case?
I am from Ethiopia my CN is 2018 AF24XXX
February 1, 2018 at 14:34
Unlock and correct your DS260
February 2, 2018 at 11:36
SIR thank you very much I will Unlock and correct it but, do you think I have to put all experiences OR is it enough to put the latest one from 2012-upto date as I have already put high school certificate (9-12 ) and a university degree. Forgive me for my ask questions again.
February 2, 2018 at 14:57
Make it accurate!
February 1, 2018 at 09:39
Hi Sir
I have applied for DV Lottery for the first time for 2019 in the meantime what shall i do? shall i go for medical test etc as i am awaiting for result which will be in started May 2018?
February 1, 2018 at 14:37
It’s a lottery/ You don’t do ANYTHING until you are selected.
February 1, 2018 at 09:54
Hi Brit i just read something in this blog that concerns me. I am in university waiting to graduate but before this i have been in another university and leaving it before the academic year so i didnt pass to next grade. I filled ds 260 two times but i forget or negleged to mention this because this happened 10 years before. I have cleared even from my life memory this event. What do you think, did i must reopen my ds 260 or just leave it through the past?
P.s i posted this with another name from my previous post but you can guess who i am :). Please reply to this
February 1, 2018 at 14:38
Personally, I would correct the DS260
February 1, 2018 at 12:18
Dear Mr.Simon
I came to USA last May as a permanent resident. Now I want to go back to my home country for 3 years to continue my higher studies. What is the best way to secure my green card? How about applying for reentry permit? Please help me to solve this problem.
February 1, 2018 at 14:41
Education in the USA will be more valuable to you.
A Re-entry pwemit is up to 2 years.
February 1, 2018 at 13:14
Hi BritSimon , for my i134 my sponsor mailed me 2 pages with signatures (page 7/8 of the form) ,one in blue ink and one in black ink .Which should I take to the interview?Rest of the form was completed on computer.

February 1, 2018 at 13:26
we heard TRUMP put an end to dv program will it affect dv 2018? if yes how ?
February 1, 2018 at 13:29
Please read all the informations carefully, it was mentioned xxxx times that Trump’s decision does NOT affect DV-2018. Come one, don’t waste Brit’s time….
February 1, 2018 at 14:43
No impact
February 1, 2018 at 15:33
Hi MR BRIT, before i drop out from the university without a degree .When filling my DS260 form i only mention high school since i had no university degree. Will this cause any effect since i fail to mention it on my DS260 form?
February 1, 2018 at 19:20
Hi brit, I won the visa lottery. I wanted to ask you the following because I have little time and money to enter the United States and I need time to resolve personal issues before moving permanently
– after my first entry how long do I have to wait in the United States to be able to leave for the first time?
– I have to wait in the United States until I have my green card in my hand so I can go back in again?
– Can I enter for the second time only with my resident visa without my green card? or do I need my green car to re-enter?
– How long can I stay outside of the United States for the first time without affecting my residence?
Thank you so much for your help.
February 1, 2018 at 19:26
Please remember to check the FAQ.
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/timeline-of-first-entry-and-absences-from-usa/
February 1, 2018 at 19:31
I think there is a genuine concern among the DV 2018 winner who have not yet completed the process . Brit has been active in keeping us hopeful though his periodic analysis and response. However , things has changed and there is a bill for negotiation that will make it easier , if agreed , to be passed and signed . For some of who are not knowledgeable with the law and the process to change, It might be worrying though we can’t do anything about it .
February 1, 2018 at 20:16
What do you mean? That 2018 will be affected?
February 1, 2018 at 20:34
Would you please stop biting at every bit of misinformation that is posted. Calm the heck down.
February 1, 2018 at 20:34
I have lost count of the number of times I have explained this. The only people who have genuine concern are those that choose to ignore me, simple legal understanding, and common sense.
February 1, 2018 at 20:42
I thought she heard something new!!! It’s my day off and this is what I’m doing. I know , I should stop it. No more posting. Maybe….
February 1, 2018 at 20:58
LOL.
Please, relax.
February 2, 2018 at 05:03
Hi Simon,
This is a pretty broad question that I hope you might be able to shed some light on. Donald Trump is trying to end the DV programme, if he gets his way do you think it will be an immediate cancellation or would the continue to process the 2018 draw and cancel from the following year?
February 2, 2018 at 05:39
DV2018 will not be affected.
February 2, 2018 at 09:16
Hi Simon, I hope you’re well. I have two questions.
1Q – today I was in medical examinations for green card, in the window a woman asked me the place where I am living, I asked her, in my Pasport another place but I’m living in another place, she said give me the place where’s you living now I gave ? It will be any problem because in dv260 I gave the place in my Pasport?
2Q. As I said you no one wanted to fill affidavit of support, in medical examinations I gave address the person who I showed in my DV260, but today I have find a person who will be my sponsor? It will be any problem the next week I have interview?
Thanks
February 2, 2018 at 14:55
1. No problem that I can see
2. I guess you will know next week. It’s too late to do anything about it now.
February 2, 2018 at 16:25
Dear Simon
Today I passed medical examinations at the end they said me that I should to take an analysis of some reason for three consecutive days and the result will be after two months. But I have an interview in the next week. Will be any effect for getting visa?
February 2, 2018 at 17:23
If it is serious enough, there could be a delay.
February 2, 2018 at 18:27
They said me it will ready after two months, you can go for interview don’t worry. We will send it directly to embassy after two months.
Really i am so worrying because I am going to gym 2-3 times in an week. I don’t feel my self bad. They said it is ok but we will see you not tuberculosis
February 3, 2018 at 15:43
What’s the serious enough?
February 3, 2018 at 16:55
Read the FAQ about diseases which cause disqualification.
February 2, 2018 at 15:39
Hi Brit
My sister and the husband went for the interview on 31st Jan. 2018 and after the interview they were put on Administrative Processing without being asked to supply any additional documents or information. Every original documents they submitted was given back to them except their passports.
We checked the visa status update yesterday, 1st Jan and it was ‘Administrative Processing’.
I checked it this morning ,2nd Jan and it had changed to ‘Refused’.
She has however not been contacted through mail or phone call on the update.
please could this status change to ‘administrative processing’ again or the case has been finally adjudicated.
Please we need your opinion on this
February 2, 2018 at 16:18
How long have they been married? Was it a marriage contracted before or after the principal selectee was notified of the selection?
February 2, 2018 at 16:34
3 months now…..contracted after my sister who is the Principal applicant was selected…..they got married in October, but they had been dating for the past 4 years before getting married.
They sent a photo album of their marriage and their marriage certificate that had been notarized and ratified by the legal section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Just to clear your doubt about the marriage, it isn’t a sham marriage.
In the process of the interview, the CO didn’t ask them any question regarding the marriage. he however did a separate interview for the two of them, but they and the interraction we had after confirm that both of them did not contradict each other.
In fact the way they answered their questions, the CO jokingly asked if they had rehearsed their questions before coming.
my sister has no problem with her SHS certificate, she had aggregate 13, her least grade was a B3 and she’s currently in her final year at the University
I hope you will find this info useful in sharing your experience with us.Thanks

It is very unusual to interview DV winners separately – there were clearly suspicions about the marriage, and the jokingly asked question showed what was on their mind.

Too bad Kwame. I guess it’s an issue of the mistrust created by so many fraudulent applications making “innocent applications” go through such heartbreaking results. Unfortunately as Brit has said, there is no appeal in DV cases, but I would recommend contacting the embassy because a notice of refusal specifying the law under which the refusal was based ought to be issued.

In my experience the refused status update is final. It seems they were concerned about the marriage – which means your sister failed to convince them the marriage was genuine.

Take them in case you are asked.

Hi Simon,
Me and my wife have already issued VISA; and we are planning to move US during mid of April (VISA expire date is June); is there any possibility to cancel the VISA which has already been approved? By keeping things on mind: current political scenario and president Trum’s view on DV system.
February 3, 2018 at 04:12
No possibility at all.
