Hello Brit
I have planned to enter to usa in June. My question is would it be able to change green card mailing address from my friend’s address to mailing address service that i will have rented before boarding?
Thank you, Sir.
March 8, 2018 at 14:59
You can change the address at the POE (arrival airport).
March 8, 2018 at 09:17
Do you have other job beside this blog?i think dv lottery is clear just hesitated people keep asking ,my brother attended the interview yesterday ,he was not asked any question just he swore the he was granted his imm visa .so this contradicts with your details in this blog.every case is different.so all who won no worries as long as you have the required high school diploma . all instruction are on the website travel.gov
March 8, 2018 at 15:04
How does your brothers case contradict the details on my blog?
March 8, 2018 at 15:40
brits is doing great job and we all do respect him. And sandy all case are different with selectess and depends upon consular. Brit is great and is helping he is doing great job .Lots of love from Nepal 🙂
March 8, 2018 at 16:41
This is an obnoxious comment. Simon has helped thousands navigate the diversity program, myself included. I had complexities in my case that he provided advice on. Glad your brother made it through. He’ll be happy to leave you behind, I’m sure.
March 8, 2018 at 20:38
Yeah sure, all who won have nothing to worry. It’s the people who have not won yet that are worried and have questions. Obviously you know nothing about it so why are you even in this blog?
March 8, 2018 at 21:59
Well, you ‘re right, Britt doesn’t help 1 person, he helped and continue helping just a tiny population in this world, I guess somewhere around 1 million people only, and the detail that Britt helped and helping is just 1 million, sure just a flip of a palm, nothing big, while you, with amazingly great help only by quoting official web, with an 10000% clear instruction and every single case that every people have
Thank you for your amazing help Sandy, we are sure every single person in this world owe you one, by that simple quote
March 8, 2018 at 22:28
LOL!
March 8, 2018 at 09:37
Hello Simon, thanks alot for your patience in supporting our impatience. When going with proof of relationship do I need to take the whole wedding album or just some pictures, plus other old pictures before the wedding?
And do you think AF25000 can be up next month? Thanks.
March 8, 2018 at 15:06
1. Your choice.
2. Wait and see.
March 8, 2018 at 11:50
Hello, i and my present wife entered Dv as singles with no children(but I at the time of entry, i had a son but did not enter the lottery with him because I did not know the rules and I was or am not married to his mother. I thought since he was an illegimate child, he will not be accepted). I and my present wife later got married in January 2017 and she gave birth to our baby girl and in may 2017, was declared winner, so my wife added me and our baby and my son-her step child-to her case, after i read and understood the dv in this your block. Note that i did not win.
Q- will the fact that I did not include my son, out of ignorance, on my initial Dv entry affect my wife’s case?
March 8, 2018 at 15:16
If you had been married at the time of the entry and not listed the child, she would have been disqualified. However, as you were NOT married at the time of your entry, she was not required to list the child. They won’t disqualify you or her based on your own incorrect entry.
March 8, 2018 at 15:41
Whooooo!!!! What a relieve. Thank you a lot Britsimon.
March 8, 2018 at 14:20
i took the interview last week i forgot to bring to them ds260 confirmation during my dv interview so they put me in AP ,1.what does this mean?2.can they access my ds 260 without bringing them the confirmation?3)why they did not ask me so ?why the interview was so quick without asking me no question?i appreciate your feedback in this matter.
March 8, 2018 at 15:22
1. AP is a waiting period for missing documents OR further background/document checks.
2. Provide what they asked for.
3. The instructions were clear.
March 8, 2018 at 14:27
Or it won’t have a negative effect since my wife’s case was completely independent from mine at the time?
Thank you

March 8, 2018 at 15:53
Hi Brits I am new and I think you doing a good job
March 8, 2018 at 16:23
DV INTERVIEW DIFFERS FROM A COUNTRY TO ANOTHER ,SOME COUNTRIES THE INTERVIEW IS BASED ON SEVERAL QUESTIONS WHILE OTHER COUNTRIES WE FIND THE INTERVIEW IS BASED ON DOCUMENTS VERIFICATION AND OATH why it is different ?
March 8, 2018 at 17:05
It actually varies case to case as well as by embassy. It’s different because people’s situations are different. Education systems are different and so on.
March 8, 2018 at 16:39
do we have to take ds260 confirmation to the interview? i think i lost it
March 8, 2018 at 17:03
Yes you are supposed to take it – you can reprint it.
March 8, 2018 at 17:06
how can i reprint it?
March 8, 2018 at 17:11
Log in to the DS260 system, navigate through each page of the DS260 and get to the confirmation page. Print that.
March 8, 2018 at 17:19
thank you for your help brit
March 8, 2018 at 18:31
do i have to go through the same page like i did when i filled the ds260 for the first time?
confuse
March 8, 2018 at 20:19
Try it and see.
March 8, 2018 at 18:10
Sir
Me and my husband got our criminal records from our country in august then we travelled to another country right away and we havent been back to our home country
So my question is do we need to get a new criminal record from our home country before our interview in june or the old one would work? since we didnt enter our home country since last August
March 8, 2018 at 18:42
I meant police clearance
March 8, 2018 at 20:20
The August cert might be OK – personally I would obtain a new one to be certain.
March 8, 2018 at 18:36
Hopefully this will be my last question. It says to get police clearances for all the countries lived in for more than 6 months since age 16. I thought read somewhere that a US police clearance wouldn’t be required, but I can’t find prescriptive guidance on it. Do you perhaps know if we’ll need US Police clearances? Or is that sort of covered in the background checks before they schedule the interview?
March 8, 2018 at 20:19
You don’t need a US police cert. They have direct access to criminal records etc, so there is no need.

Hi, Brit my wife is pregnant and she is a dv lottery and the interview date set. We legally got married after results but she didn’t change her status. Is that a problem ? And will she be required to provide details of her partner??
Kindly assist
March 8, 2018 at 20:17
Why on earth have you not updated your details!!! You asked me about this in OCTOBER 2017!!!
She should have changed her status – and you could have got a Green Card too. Now – all she can do is attend the interview and make sure she tells the CO she got married. If you want to emigrate, you will have to apply later.
March 8, 2018 at 20:33
Hi Brit,
After how many days can I expect my status to change from ready to either issued or AP after a successful interview.
March 8, 2018 at 20:43
It varies by embassy. Sometimes just a couple of days.
March 8, 2018 at 20:33
Hi britsam Can I unlock my form ds260 while am current????
Thank you
March 8, 2018 at 21:08
Hello BritSimon,
DV-2018 EU, My immigration visa expiry May 15 and date of medical was Novemeber 14. 2017. Im not sure for how long is the medical valid. Is it till May 15 ? Or it can expiry sooner than the visa? Thank you
March 8, 2018 at 21:38
Your visa expiry date is calculated based on the medical date plus 6 months. So – until that date the medical is valid.
March 8, 2018 at 21:14
Hello Simon,
Ours is family petition for immigration ,my mother in law is a US citizen and she filed our case through nvc,
Our interview date is very near but our lawyer has lost the signed papers of sponsors affidavit of support from our both sponsors, but there is written clearly that we have to present that papers in our interview, we don’t know what to do now, we are so worried Simon please help us… Thank you
March 8, 2018 at 21:37
I only answer questions about DV lottery.
March 8, 2018 at 21:37
Hello, my sister won the dv lottery her case number is 42000. She filled the form online, ever since she hasn’t received any response from the dv lottery officials. What s happening? Is she still on the save side ?
March 8, 2018 at 21:46
Right now she just has to wait. Her number is not ready yet.
March 8, 2018 at 21:38
Or what does she need to do?
March 8, 2018 at 21:47
Hi Simon,
I found on the Internet that in order to find a job you need social security number.
I am going to request it but do you know if I can get a job until I don’t have it yet?
It might takes up to 14 working days which is quite long time to wait if you have nothing to do. So just wanted know if here in US they allowed to start working without it, only with stamp from airport from Department of homeland security. And green card I receive in couple of months.
Thank you for answer.
March 8, 2018 at 22:27
You often need it to start work (or at least within a few days). After a week of being in the US you can possibly get the SSN number (even before you receive the card itself) by visiting the SSA office.
March 8, 2018 at 21:48
Hello Brit, here’s the thing; I filled the application for the “DV Lottery 2019” with what, I think, is a misspelled name. My passport isn’t ready yet, so I don’t know if my name is going to have an accent or not. My problem is this; On my ID my middle name is spelled “Andrés” (I haven’t checked out my birth certificate to know for sure if that accent goes there), but on my application I wrote my middle name as “Andres”, is this going to deny my application if it is misspelled ? Thanks in advance.
March 8, 2018 at 22:08
It’s a lottery with atiny chance of winning. *IF* you get selected this would be worth discussing.
March 8, 2018 at 21:51
Thanks for ya response, since her case number is 42,000 when should she expect her case number to come up? Possibly which month ?
March 8, 2018 at 22:27
It will be a few months yet. Wait and see.
March 9, 2018 at 01:51
Hi Simon, I suspect my interview will be around June/July. I will have around 11,000USD as financial evidence at the interview. I understand once activated that visa holders then have upto 11 months that they can return to existing country before making the permanent move. Is this ’11 month window’ considered at the interview for obtaining additional funds if one continues to work during this period in existing country?
March 9, 2018 at 02:35
No – once you have the visa there is no further financial requirement – you are on your own!
March 9, 2018 at 02:05
Brit,
We got our visa and everything already paid for SSN. Now we have a problem about my wife’s passport (I am principal applicant)my wife was travel to Saudi Arabia in 2014 when she came back to srilanka .srilankan airport immigrants said her passport is not reading through scanner and advised go to srilankan passport office and check it.then she went to passport office they checked it and said its technical fault now they are correct it(it happen 2014)she being that passport for interview and visa print on that passport. We are planning to travel USA soon that’s why my wife’s told to me she wanna check her passport again.yesterday we went srilankan passport office again .they said one scanner Read it and other one not answer for wife’s passport. Then officer told us under this technical issue they will offers new passport.within 2,3 hours they gave new passport for my wife.my question my wife’s previous passport has print on visa and and every documents we provide that passport number. Do we need to informe srilankan embassy ?
March 9, 2018 at 02:36
You travel with both passports.
March 9, 2018 at 03:59

I don’t know the outcome of your case.
March 9, 2018 at 07:56
Hi brit.I received my 2nl. what I want to ask u is,during ds260 application I have done mistake,on my host’s name order, I said Alemayehu Anteneh Wodajo ,the correct order is Anteneh Alemayehu Wodajo, except this order address and street number is correct ,would this error cause problem at interview?
March 9, 2018 at 14:34
No. It’s only the host name.
March 9, 2018 at 10:50
Hi Brit,
Is it normal for a status to move from “ready” to “AP” even after the consular congratulate you for a successful interview? I thought it moves from “ready” to “issued”.
NB: This is 2days after the interview.
March 9, 2018 at 14:35
Yes that is normal for a couple of days.
March 9, 2018 at 12:32
Hi brit. My concern have to do with the marry issue in the Dv pogram. My constom does not support the issue of gettimg marry with ring, is that a threat to my pogram or may lead to disqualification?
March 9, 2018 at 14:37
The DV process respects LEGAL marriage. So – I don’t know what country you are in, or what customs they have there, but there should be some paperwork to show marriage – right?
March 9, 2018 at 16:41
Yea, which i already have in my possession, but what is worring me is that, weather getting marry with ring is a most in the Dv pogram?, be a tridition or European. Because my wife and i got marry according to our tridition here in liberia but there was no ring. For liberia there is two form of marrage being administer here, both the triditional and European like i mention ealier. In this i don’t know what could u advice
March 9, 2018 at 17:57
I don’t know anything about marriage customs or laws in Liberia. You know better than I do. I have already told you that the embassy will be concerned about LEGAL marriage status.
March 9, 2018 at 12:55
Hi brit.I received my 2nl. what I want to ask u is,during ds260 application I have done mistake,on my host’s name order, I said Alemayehu Anteneh Wodajo ,the correct order is Anteneh Alemayehu Wodajo, except this order address and street number is correct ,would this error cause problem at interview?
March 9, 2018 at 15:13
Hi Brit, my niece sent her form 260 on May 23rd last year but she hasn’t heard anything back. She asked KCC DV in October 2017 and they confirmed they received her form and were processing but that it takes “several weeks.” There’s no reason for her not to qualify all factors being constant, but do you think they’re still responding to 260s or are they done?
March 9, 2018 at 15:30
The DS260 will be processed already – for sure. But now she will wait for her number to be current.
March 9, 2018 at 20:33
I was lost my passport before the interview
March 10, 2018 at 01:18
Hi brit,
Am i going to get a visa if i refixed my mistakes that caused my denial in my dv2018 interview ?
I was a DV2018 applicant.
Andras
Regards.
March 10, 2018 at 04:42
What was the denial reason – and what were the mistakes? Was it a 221(g) denial?
March 10, 2018 at 16:35
Thanks for the reply sir,
Well, my denial was because i didn’t get the qualification that the EMBASSY was looking for; thus i failed some one and two subjects in my High School Certificate Exam.
That’s the cause of the denial.
Andras
March 10, 2018 at 19:22
So it wasn’t “mistakes”. It was that you don’t meet the requirements. So OBVIOUSLY that will always be the case!
March 10, 2018 at 19:28
Mr Brits but what if his work experience was good.. his high school wouldn’t affect him too much right? Thank for you good job
March 10, 2018 at 22:06
Well apparently they judged he didn’t meet the requirements – so that would suggest his work doesn’t meet the requirements either. It isn’t 2 years in just “any” job.
March 10, 2018 at 20:27
Yeah okay.
So im asking, will i get a Visa in the next interview in case i win the 2019Lottery ?
Thanks
Andras
March 10, 2018 at 22:02
Well if you were not qualified for this year – what makes you think your qualifications will be better next year? Are you performing a job that might meet the requirements?
March 10, 2018 at 22:16
Wow you right Mr Brits.. you really helping us a lot.. I applied for DV2019 so am waiting patiently as you always say.
March 11, 2018 at 14:59
I would be rewriting those subjects that i failed and think that’s a good ideal?…Yes and my job is a Pump Attendant at a service station.
March 11, 2018 at 15:14
Improving your education is always a good idea.
March 11, 2018 at 16:18
Thank you sir.
So i guess the probability that im gonna get a visa in the next Interview will be high right ??
Regards
Andras
March 11, 2018 at 17:34
The probability that you get selected again is extremely small. So – win first – then ask.
March 10, 2018 at 04:37
Hi Brit,
While filling the DS-260 form i put my mothers full name i.e Jasmine Esmeralda Lucia D’ Souza.
This name also appears on my birth certificate.
On my marriage certificate It is misspelled as Jesmine D’Souza, and there middle names are not mentioned.
Getting these name rectified on my marriage certificate will take a very long time due to lengthy legal process.
Kindly advice as to what needs to be done.
Thank you in advance for all your help.
March 10, 2018 at 04:44
It doesn’t matter as it is your parent – not your name.
March 10, 2018 at 09:54
Hello Brit,
my case number is 2018EU36XXX from Albania.
Do you think it’s in a safe range?
Thank you.
March 10, 2018 at 15:39
Risk starts from about 33XXX
March 10, 2018 at 19:46
Brit I like when you tell things like that.
March 10, 2018 at 15:28
Hello brit.
1. I have the required degree but noticed that I wrote it, in the Ds, in the different wording than does the embassy (it is issued in french).
can’t this cause the confusion to the CO and result in AP?
2. I studied in a boarding school for 7 years i.e lived there obviously exept hollidays.
however I didn’t consider the school as an other adress when completing About my adress though it’s mentioned on education infos that the school is in an other province than the current adress.
Can my consideration of having not changed the adress (simply because it’s the same country and I always came home in holidays) cause problems?
3. do 1 &2 worth to unlock the Ds since I expect to be current in the nearer period?
sincerly
March 10, 2018 at 15:48
No, No and no
March 10, 2018 at 16:06
Can i unlock my ds 260 on the day that i get the email for my interview?
March 10, 2018 at 19:22
No.
March 10, 2018 at 19:39
Why? Does it couse any problem?
March 10, 2018 at 22:05
Once scheduled they won’t unlock your form.
March 10, 2018 at 16:23
Dejane, odakle ste?
March 10, 2018 at 19:18
Hi Simon,
if there is something wrong in my DS260 that causes for sure a denial, will I be called for interview when my number is current anyway? Basically, I have to go to the Emassy anyway? Thanks for your continued help to all of us!
Kind regards
Fausto
March 12, 2018 at 09:03
Hi Simon,
maybe you missed my question…
Thanks!
Fausto
March 12, 2018 at 14:49
KCC don’t deny cases – so yes the interview would happen anyway.
March 10, 2018 at 20:44
Hello Brit,
my case number is 2018AS116XX from SUDAN but I am working in UAE.
Do you think it’s in a safe range?
Thank you.
March 10, 2018 at 22:00
Normally it would NOT be a good number at all – however, because of the travel ban affect on selectees from banned countries, you might get a chance. So – wait and see.
March 11, 2018 at 06:11
How is your number ASxxx & you’re from Sudan? Maybe you have another nationality?
March 11, 2018 at 15:00
That’s a good question. Dina – you should explain.
March 10, 2018 at 20:56
Hi Mr.Simon, based on Xarthisius data there’re around 3,500 visas issued for EU so far? Do we correct in calculation? Does it include derivatives?
March 10, 2018 at 21:27
It’s a lot more than that! That I can tell you! I guess my phone is not that bad with the data update?
March 10, 2018 at 21:42
How do you get data update on your phone?
March 10, 2018 at 22:01
I have downloaded the xarthisius data , but it doesn’t work well on my phone. I think it’s my phone. But I will let Brit explain more to you because I’m not so good with things like that. From comments before I think the number is somewhere to 8000 visas issued
March 10, 2018 at 21:58
There are 8000+ EU issued so far. That includes derivatives.
March 10, 2018 at 22:02
No, that’s not correct. Official data released by DOS shows that 5649 DV visas were issued up till the end of January 2018. Scraped data from CEAC indicates that over 8000 visas have been issued as of today. These are actual GC counts, so yes, they do include derivatives.
March 10, 2018 at 22:08
Xarthsius, is there any way to know how many cases are left to be interviewed?
March 10, 2018 at 22:24
@tom yes, there is. I didnt have the March VB number handy, but I remembered the April one. So I think as of may first, there will be 4790 interviews left. But that does not include derivatives.
March 10, 2018 at 22:34
Is that only for the EU region?
March 10, 2018 at 22:45
Thank you Rxy!!! Now I feel nauseous ☹️
March 10, 2018 at 23:01
🙁 dont! for the worst,we’ll just all book a flight and spend a holyday in NYC
March 10, 2018 at 23:06
Can’t help it ??!!! Yeah that’s a good idea
March 10, 2018 at 23:39
@Tom. I think about 10700 cases have had interviews. Assuming that resulted in 8500 visas and *assuming* that there will be from today around 11400 cases left, and the EU quoata is 17500?(not sure). Considering AP cases that will be issued later, and people with early numbers who will process later, we will see the “visa issued up to 10700 cases” number increase a bit, THEORETICALLY I feel 38xxx is very high and would not be called. HOWEVER there seems to be a chance *if* Brits agent theory proves to be right (which I am not sure when or if or how exactly we will notice. Maybe after the next VB when more of the TRA countries had interviews we can see something) OR if EU gets some NARCA visas or whatever they are called. ALSO EU- rates are calculated regionally. Since there is a completly new mix of entry numbers, with the TRA countries being so over represented, non-response and refusal behaviour might have changed and we will just be able to see the consequences of this slowly, because the first months processing was mainly with the U2 countries.
I am not sure if any of what I wrote makes any sense and I’m happy for Brit to intervine, but I think *if* the odds are with us, there can be a chance that even 38xxx will get called, however, admitingly, for that to happen, it seems that really all odds have to be on your side.
But there are so many ifs… I get why we need to wait and see and it is soooooooooooooooo frustrating.
March 11, 2018 at 00:06
Hello guys,
RXY first of all i think you mix up different values number of selectees, number of cases and case numbers. It’s impossible that 10700 cases had interveiws (EU region) because there are so many cases up to CN 14658 and many of them are no responses so for number of cases that had interview is much lower. There are 11407 cases up to april 15950 cutoff and 9508 cases from 15950 up to the last CN 39695.
March 11, 2018 at 00:11
@carlos. the non- responses dont matter in this calculation, as we also dont know how many non-responses will be coming in the next rows. the number 10700 versus a bit more then 8000 visas is what i got from brit yesterday.
March 11, 2018 at 00:18
but regarding the 10700- you might be right and I have misunderstood. make that an approximate 9500 interviews.
March 11, 2018 at 00:31
thats true. I get the same number now, not sure what was wrong with my count. anyhow, this number is included in the longer post though.
March 11, 2018 at 00:57
I do know that 38xxx its almost impossible but I still hope sometimes and hold on to this number and than loose hope against. You guys are really nice and I do appreciate for explaining details. This wait is really killing me ??
March 11, 2018 at 04:44
I’m not sure what you mean by “cases left to be interviewed”. Anyway I can only tell you how many interviews are scheduled right now: ~7300 in total, ~2350 for EU only.

Hi Xarthisius/Brit, does this number of 8000 issued visas so far changes the cut off for EU? Thanks in advance for a reply 🙂
March 11, 2018 at 03:36
No. The visas have to be issued – it is not a surprise that they are….
March 10, 2018 at 22:27
How will you know your case has been scheduled before the next VB is released?

1. If authentication is normal in your country, then do the same for the higher degrees.
2. Please check the reciprocity page for that country and follow the instructions given.

Hi Britsimon,
Do the derivatives, especially the spouse, need to fill in a separate DS 260 aside from the one filled in by the principle applicant?
Thank you!
March 11, 2018 at 15:07
Yes
March 11, 2018 at 10:53
Hi Simon
While I was filling my DS 260 form I have given hotel address. I have tried a lot to get a new address from a friend or even from friend to friend but I could not managed, please let me know wheher is makes a serious problem or not .Thanks
March 11, 2018 at 15:09
The address will be the place your GC is sent. If the GC is lost because you gace an unsafe address, USCIS will charge nearly $500 to replace each card. So yes – it is important!

Hi Brit,
First of all, i want to thank you for this great work you are doing, helping so many people all around
the globe. You deserve a Nobel that has to be created for you.
I read on your site somewhere, that the two years work experience is at the time of interview but I am not sure anymore and I have not been able to find this information with the search tool.
It’s on behalf of my niece who is the selectee with a low CN AF6xxx and who has NOT applied yet for the DS260.
She is in the process of doing so this coming days and depending on your answer can she wait a little more
so she won’t be disqualified based on this length.
One more time, THANKS
March 11, 2018 at 15:10
She could wait until May
March 11, 2018 at 17:48

March 11, 2018 at 20:13
Two years in the five years prior to interview – yes.

hi Brits by God’s grace i recieved my package including my passport with visa on friday and will be leaving for America very soon, and i want to ask these questions.
1. is it allowed to pay my green card fee after i have entered America ?
2. if yes, will it cause delays in the printing and delivery of the card ?
3.i want to change my host address at the port of entry so if i pay the green card fee here before leaving can it happen that the green card will be delivered to the wrong address before i enter America ?.
3. is there any advantages associated with paying the green card fee before getting to america ?
4. can my host pay the green card fee for me if i give him my details from the created profile with UCIS ?
Thanks Brits
counting on your usual cooperation
