Hello Simon,
I need your guidance here? I am the principal applicant we need to go for our medical thereafter book for the visa interview with the embassy. I have just realized that we don’t have enough money for the family to undergo all these process. It is possible to just go to the embassy for the interview with my son and request for my husband for a later interview with the embassy if I am granted visa with the Embassy. Thanks in advance.
July 27, 2018 at 18:11
If you don’t all attend the interview together, you and your son could get the visas, but you would then have to sponsor your husband once you were living and working in America. That would take about 2 years – during which time your husband would not be able to visit and you would have to remain working to be his financial sponsor. That process costs more money, and is more complex, meaning you would probably need a lawyer.
The DV process is your easiest and best option BY FAR.

Thank you for the information you provided. You will be notified when the visa is printed and sent to our courier service( Aramex).
does this means my visa is accepted ?
July 27, 2018 at 18:36
No. It means you have to wait until notified.
July 27, 2018 at 19:38
Hi brit. To pay that uscis service does my sister need a uscis account? Or her sponcer need it?
July 27, 2018 at 21:11
She has the instructions.
July 27, 2018 at 22:37
Good day Brit
My family and I entered the US since 07/13/18 to activate the GC. I called the Social Security Office on the 3rd day to inquire about the application and was informed by the officer to wait for 14 days after which if I dont receive the SS card should visit the office which we did today. Unfortunately, we were told we have to wait for the GC to arrive then get back to them for the process to begin. This is because as explained, the current visa expires on 5th August 2018 and the system is not allowing access. I explained to her that the endorsed visa act as a temporary i551 and I believe overrides the current visa. She maintained I would have to wait for the GC before any process can be initiated. As its known I cant hire an apartment, work and many other things without the SS card.
I called the USCIS and also claimed they have no business with SS admin.
Am to return to my home country to put lose ends together and come back say next April/May 2019.
Questions
1. What can we do now to get SS card rather than waiting for GC to process it
2.Does the expiration of the current visa have any effect on the processing of the Social Security Card and what can we do
3.Assuming we are not able to get the SS and we leave for my country and I return to the US earlier than my wife and kids can I first apply for mine and they apply for theirs when they join me in a month ?
4 .If I leave for my country without the GC would I encounter any problem when we are returning next year? Your FAQ answers that but todays episode at SS makes it a bit worrying
July 27, 2018 at 23:02
1. Go back to the SSA. You spoke to a lazy idiot. Politely, but firmly, persist and ask to speak to a manager if needed.
2. No. Only in idiotland.
3. That won’t be necesary.
4. No – but read my FAQ about absences.
July 27, 2018 at 23:20
I need to clarify point 1.
The visa you have in your passport is used. It’s only purpose is to provide proof of your status until you get the GC. However, you are not her by permission of some visa. You are a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR). So – whether your endorsed visa is expired, or burned, or anything else has NO BEARING on your status – and has nothing to do with the staff at the SSA. They have access to systems which provide info on new immigrant arrivals, and that is the reason they tell you to wait (14 days is MORE than enough – they usually have the data within a week).
July 28, 2018 at 03:35
Thanks so much Brit
We will go back to the SSA and report back here so as to serve as a guide to others who will encounter similar problems in the future
Thanks
July 28, 2018 at 01:26
Hi Brit!
I have few questions, not very important so whenever you have some time, could you please answer?
My spouse is main applicant.
1. We’ve been leaving in USA for 2 years. We have jobs here (my spouse part time, I have full time job), we rent a room in nice house, we have cars. Is it a proof that we will not become a public charge? As I know I134 is not necessery? (I know it is the safest proof).
2. I guess we don’t need to bring police records form USA?
Thank you.
July 28, 2018 at 03:45
1. If your income is enough to meet the poverty guidelines, you should be OK. However, be careful. If you are doing AOS you should really have an I-134, and at some embassies it is expected.
2. Correct.
July 28, 2018 at 07:08
Thank you. I am doing CP in Warsaw embassy. Do you know anything about this embassy? And my spouse (who is main applicant) does not meet poverty guidelines, but I do. (and of course as a couple together we are way above poverty line). Is it a problem that my spouse, as a main applicant, does not meet this requirements? Do they also consider my income?
July 28, 2018 at 13:25
You should be OK.
July 28, 2018 at 02:09
Hi dear simon
I have my friend he is been selected in DV2019
He is born in United Arab Emirates and he chose United Arab Emirates as country of birth in first entry
But chose No instead of yes in that question saying is your country of birth is the country of eligibility
and then chose Sudan from the options as country of eligibility and he received an African cause
So is this going to be problem ???
July 28, 2018 at 03:46
Yes it will be a problem, unless he was married to someone born in Sudan.
July 28, 2018 at 05:27
All the best to those who received September’s interview appointment letter
July 28, 2018 at 06:48
Hi Brit;
If RAISE(s.354) act pass and become a law,What will happen to allready selecteds applicants Dv 2019? What is your opinion, will this act pass end of this year? Thank you for answer.
July 28, 2018 at 13:24
No.
July 28, 2018 at 10:09
Am a dv 2019 winner from uganda but my wife works in jordan.wil she need a police certificate from jordan or from uganda?
July 28, 2018 at 13:28
Read the instructions.
July 28, 2018 at 13:12
Please am married but am going alone to US. Do I need to prove am married during the interview?if yes with what
July 28, 2018 at 13:18
You should have your correct marital status on all the forms because you are required to be truthful. Your marriage is proven by a marriage certificate.
July 28, 2018 at 13:20
Hi Brit.
After receiving this massage after my interview and medicals:
“The Congressionally-mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available up to 55,000 diversity visas (DV) each year, drawn from random selection among all entries, to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
The Department of State in Washington informed U.S. consular sections worldwide to halt processing DV cases whose initial appointment was scheduled prior to July 2018 .
We regret at this moment we are unable to continue processing of your DV 2018 application, however in September 2018 please check the visa bulletin (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin.html) for information regarding DV visa number availability. Visa application and associated fees cannot be refunded. In September 2018 we will review all DV 2018 case files and return passports and original civil documents through the courier service”.
The last updated section of my visa tracking at the CEAC.state.gov website has been showing that my visa processing is updated on the 27th of july with no status change.
Can this be a positive sign that they are still working on my case?
July 28, 2018 at 13:38
No, it is NOT a positive sign, quite the opposite. They are telling you they have run out of visas. Your only chance is if refusals on other cases make some visas available.
July 28, 2018 at 14:42
What does that mean, and what region is that from Paul?Is it for EU region, or not?Does that mean that there are no more visas for august interview?????
July 28, 2018 at 15:07
could that be possible that you have your interview shedule for august (like our) dv 2018, and that they informed you there are no more visas. When i received 2NL i called us embasy and they told me when you receive your 2NL your visas are here in our embasy.Plesae answer on this and my previously question.
July 28, 2018 at 20:21
People have received those notices in EU and AF – generally in cases where the case has been on AP from a previous month. People that are scheduled, waiting for CP interviews don’t have to worry – but the message means that between visas already issued and those scheduled, there are no visas left. The only chance for clearing AP cases, is refusals at their embassy, or August refusals and AP sent back to KCC for reallocation.
July 28, 2018 at 13:43
May I ask what region this is?
July 28, 2018 at 20:20

July 28, 2018 at 20:32
Makes sense. Thank you. I am one of those above AF395** scheduled for August. So far according to embassy and KCC I must proceed to interview this coming week. So,here’s hoping…
July 28, 2018 at 20:40
My fingers are crossed for you.
August 3, 2018 at 16:31
FYI, other scheduled cases above 39500 have been approved and issued. You should be safe. If you have any problem refer them to look at CEAC case number 2018AF43394
August 20, 2018 at 09:00
Hi do you mind telling us your reason of AP?
July 28, 2018 at 20:35
Uh, it’s easier now, i can go to sleep. Thanks Simon.
July 30, 2018 at 03:38
If you dont mind me asking, how does this apply to people from Europe filing for an aos in the us? Im anxiously awaiting my interview next week.
July 30, 2018 at 04:13
I don’t know for sure. AOS cases are not pre-allocated a visa, so there is certainly risk of not having a visa – although I would be very surprised at that outcome in early August.
July 28, 2018 at 18:55
I don’t really understand what this “prior to July” means? So all of the appointments prior to july (so for example june interviews, middle july, late july) are halted? What about august and september? If they stopped july interviews, why do they want to continue processing august and september?
July 28, 2018 at 20:38

July 28, 2018 at 14:08
Please I applied with my secondary school results and I wasn’t married by then ..on all my documents my marital status is single..so how do I prove am married
July 28, 2018 at 20:11

July 28, 2018 at 14:49
Is it enough visas for EU to get it september interview people
July 28, 2018 at 20:21
Cases scheduled have a visa allocated to them.
July 28, 2018 at 15:52
HELLO KCC
i am winner in dv 2019 from DJIBOUTI, I’m not still fillling my
from ds 260 because i have some probem so i made a mistake to my old from in november 2017.
however,
I am really a divorced woman, at the time of my initial registration of last day on November 21st, 2017 I made a mistake about my marital status instead of fulfilling with divorced I put single.
indeed my question is this:
what should I put for my marital status in my form ds260
1. complete with single as the initial registration
2. correct my mistake by filling out with divorced as is my situation today.
July 28, 2018 at 20:27
You must tell the truth. There is some risk to your case, but take the divorce papers to the interview and you should be OK.
July 28, 2018 at 16:24
Hi Brit.I would like to thank you for all.I got my visa. But my wife and child didnt.we were said to go our country and send them pasports with TNT.When i ask if there any problem they told me no, just there wasnt time.Just return and send us pasport. We did it.I would like to ask if there could be any problem that they didnt give visa to my wife and child ? thank you in advance
July 28, 2018 at 20:28
I don’t see why there would be a problem.
July 28, 2018 at 17:07
Hi Brit!
My future wife tried to email KCC about changing interview location from Dublin to Warsaw. And she got below response:
If you need to change your interview location because your residency has changed, you will need to include the new address in your email. You will also need to request that KCC unlock your DS-260, so that you can update your application with your new address. (Please note that Post Office Boxes and mailing addresses in care of another person do not justify a change of interview location.)
Does it mean that we need a proper reason for switching location? We will be staying in Ireland until moving to USA, but it’s just more simple for us to gather documents and med exams in Warsaw. Can you please advise?
Thanks,
Regards,
Maciek
July 28, 2018 at 20:32
Yes – you don’t get to choose any embassy you like, KCC schedule based on where you live.
July 28, 2018 at 19:29
Dear Simon, I know that the answer will be bad for me, but I need to ask just in case I’m missing something…my wife is a principal applicant and I’m the beneficiary, we got the appointment at the Embassy on Sept 4, but few days ago my wife said she want the divorce, unfortunately, and we filed for divorce…There is huge possibility that she doesn’t want to go at all, but me, I wanna go with all my heart….I know there is no chance that I can go, but I needed to ask you anyway, if there is some way, hoping for a miracle….Thank you for your time.
July 28, 2018 at 20:39
You are the beneficiary of your wife’s case. If she doesn’t want to get you a visa, there is nothing you can do about it.
July 28, 2018 at 22:47
Hi brit . A green card holder can get a us citizenship by living 3 years in the usa ? I know its 5 years but is there any ways?without marrige.
July 29, 2018 at 00:41
Did google break?
July 30, 2018 at 08:01
No. But You’r much better than google.
July 30, 2018 at 14:08
Not really – and you need to respect my time.
July 28, 2018 at 23:56
So please as I am married but going alone, what kind of questions will be asked during the interview
July 29, 2018 at 00:44
Clieck the magnifying glass at the top of the page and type “Interview questions”
July 29, 2018 at 09:07
Hello Brit.
my sponsor just sent me the aff of support and wrote ” I intend to accomodate * my names * the place of living and meals untill he is self sufficient for a period not to exceed one year”
1. Is this okay?
2. I put on the Ds a different sponsor but think this suggest I will move to the one who gave me the AoS. Should I mail the embassy to inform them about the change of US adress? Or just at the interview ( some people say it can result in AP)
3. he sent me all the supporting doc you listed except the W2 and told me the 1040 covers the infos of W2.
will the missing of the w2 cause some risks?
July 29, 2018 at 13:40
1. Unlimited time is always better.
2. No need to change, just take the I-134 to the interview if they are not satisfied with your host.
3. No.
July 29, 2018 at 09:35
Hi,
had a question concerning the form I-134. I see the latest one expires on 30/11/2018. Does that mean I can’t use it for the DV2019 process?
July 29, 2018 at 13:43
No – you can ignore the expiry date of the form.
July 29, 2018 at 09:54
Hi Brit.I have given a yellow envelope in embassy. There is also one A4 leaflet .On this leaflet my surname was written wrong. Excatly one letter was written wrong.instead of “Y” has written “U”.if it could be problem for me ?
July 29, 2018 at 13:44
I don’t know what leaflet you are talking about – but is your visa correct? If yes – then no problem.
July 29, 2018 at 14:06
Hi BritSimon,
Thank you for your generous help for dv winners. I have a question:
1. Visa bulletin for 2019 shows my country Nepal has 3600 visas. Is this the whole visa for the year 2019 for Nepal?
2. Is there any chances for new update from visa bulletin with increase in visa?
3. My case number is 4485, should i fill ds 260 or not?
Thank you once again im advance.
Best regards,
Prasin
July 29, 2018 at 14:33
1. That is the number of DV2019 selectees, including derivatives.
2. That is NOT the number of visas.
3. Yes
July 29, 2018 at 15:04
Hi BritSimon,
Thank you for your help. Now I still have one question:
Since the total selectees from Nepal is around 3600 including derivatives, I am assuming that case number starts from 1.
1. If this is the case, what is the possibility of having my case number 4485 available in visa bulletin?
July 29, 2018 at 15:30
Read this:
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2019-basic-questions
July 29, 2018 at 14:12
Thank you for answer..there is another question..thank you in advance..i have 2 star on my visa..my friend have 1 star..another 3 star..what does this stars means ?
July 29, 2018 at 14:34
Longer or shorter names. The stars will up empty spaces. Nothing mysterious.
July 29, 2018 at 14:59
Thanks so much.
so please now all my documents are intact. .I have my marriage certificate..n have followed all instructions too..can I be assured of a visa please?
July 29, 2018 at 15:27
That is for the CO to decide.
July 29, 2018 at 15:02
And lastly please the fact that am married but not going with my spouse..won’t that create extra questions during my interview?
July 29, 2018 at 15:28
Possibly.
July 29, 2018 at 15:19
Hi Simon,
I have 2 passports because I’m from a special administrative region in Asia. Is it okay to claim that I only have 1 passport on DS260?
July 29, 2018 at 16:20
“to claim” – you mean not be honest. No.
July 31, 2018 at 15:28
Thanks! Sorry I have to correct myself – I have never mentioned to US government / consulate / custom that I have another passport, even when I obtained B1/B2 visa 2 years ago. Diversity Visa is more about my birth place but not my nationality, right?
July 31, 2018 at 16:03
I answered. I’m not going to help or encourage you to lie.
July 29, 2018 at 15:37
Hello Simon,
I am currently having a situation here. On the 18th of July I went to my visa interview in the United states embassy in Cairo, Egypt. Unfortunately, I did not have the Sevis payment receipt with me, I did not pay that at all. I immediately payed it after my interview and sent it back with my passport to the embassy according to the instructions on my 221g slip.
My visa status is administrative processing, I am panicking as I read online that some of those cases take months to be resolved. I know it may be background checks but my case has been mainly issued for missing the Sevis receipt. I have zero criminal records, all my family members are in respectable jobs here in Egypt, I think there is absolutely no reason for administrative processing except for missing the Sevis payment.
When to expect to get the visa?
1) CEAC: administrative processing
2) Passport tracker: There is no status update available for the passport number submitted.
July 29, 2018 at 17:13
I only answer questions on DV lottery.
July 29, 2018 at 15:56
Hi BritSimon
I have a one quiestion
Our interview day 8th of august but my husband cant be there by that time. So i decide to go 8th of august with my sun with my son. My husband after go to interview. So if i change my husband interview day.Is Embassy give our respond/result of interview in first interview which mean 8th of august or after my husband interview. ?
July 29, 2018 at 17:36
You are going to make it difficult or impossible to get your visa for your husband. You would then have to emigrate without him and spend about 2 years trying to sponsor him for a Green Card.
If you want to avoid that chaos – get him to the interview.
July 30, 2018 at 00:52
okay
i want to know about when embassy give result of interview.
is my son and i wait until my husband interview or embassy give after me and my sons interview.?
July 30, 2018 at 01:11
If you want Green Cards, get your husband to the interview. Any other plan will probably cost you the visa.
July 29, 2018 at 16:12
Dear Brit,
my sponsor applied for IRS on 24th this month. How many working day take for this? He said 5 to 10 days it is correct?
Thanks Brit
July 29, 2018 at 16:21
I don’t know.
July 29, 2018 at 16:29
So have there been instances that winners actually qualify buh will be denied visas?
July 29, 2018 at 17:22
You’re not a winner until you are actually issued a Visa. As precisely mentioned in all correspondence, you have been SELECTED so it’s only based on the outcome of the interview that you can claim the win or not. People can be refused at the sole discretion of the CO if he or she deems you not eligible for a DV so yes, you could “qualify” on paper and still be denied if there is any doubt about your application or answers during the interview
July 29, 2018 at 16:52
Hi simon
My wife n daughter going for interview but did not get the visa because thay need I-134 affidant support form n my interview is in aug 20 because of my medical report. If we provide I-134 affidant support, there is a chance of getting visa or not.thank you
July 29, 2018 at 20:45
When was their interview??
July 30, 2018 at 00:50
There interview was in July 26
July 30, 2018 at 01:09
OK, so you have created significant risk.
Their case is at risk because you did not take the I-134 to the interview.
Then your interview being delayed also created risk.
The risk is that your cases were allocated a visa for each of you, but that needs to be used by the end on July. Because all three are delayed – you will now have lost the allocated visas and will need the embassy to request new visas for you. Some people have found that those types of requests from the embassy are being refused because visas are low (AF and EU).
July 30, 2018 at 15:13
Hello simon
In our case embassy need only wel come letter, after interview they asked for I-134 affidavit support, n we r from As Nepal, thank you
July 30, 2018 at 16:22
Well as I tell people (even from Nepal), preparing an I-134 is wise. It is part of standard immigration law and is in the DV lottery instructions/FAQ.
July 29, 2018 at 19:48
I’m a dv lottery winner from South sudan, and you all know South sudan used to be part of sudan we achieved our independence in 2011. I was born in Sudan the question is my birth date according to the age assessment of South sudan is 11 June and that’s the date I used to fill EDV application form, however when I contacted KCC they told me I should obtain birth certificate form Sudan, the authorities in sudan said I was born in 5 Jun, and this date will not match my first DV application, what should I do now?? If all my documents are according to South sudan age assessment and what will happen if I change the documents to 5 June which will not match the first EDV applications.
July 29, 2018 at 20:56
That should not be a problem. Enter the 5 June date on the DS260
July 29, 2018 at 22:18
Hi Brit,
We have our interview in september and my wife filled out her DS260 with her adoptive father in the “family” section, she has been adopted when she was 3 with full adoption meaning that the name of her biological father doesn’t even appear on her birth certificate only the name of her adoptive father (but the term “full adoption” appears on the BC), is it ok?
We will bring the adoption certificate for the interview.
Thanks – as always,
July 30, 2018 at 00:20
No problem
July 30, 2018 at 01:12
thanks !
July 30, 2018 at 00:35
Greetinx Brit, until now the ds260 still not accessible and i am yet to fill mine 2019 dv with AS 14XX winner, hope i still gat chance to fill in future , Sure we dont knw when this will be accessible
July 30, 2018 at 00:39
Patience.
July 30, 2018 at 04:31
Hello mr Simons
My case is dv 2018 which is going to be expired on 30 September 2018.
I had my interview on 21 November 2017. Since then my case is updated 2 times once on 3 July 2018 and second on 21 july 2018. So all i want to know what is the meaning of it ( case last updated ). Is there any specific progress or indication.
So please kindly reply
July 30, 2018 at 04:36
You cannot infer any meaning from the updates.
July 30, 2018 at 04:40
So shall i wait till the expiration date 30 September 2018
July 30, 2018 at 04:44
Yes, although you can also contact the embassy.
July 30, 2018 at 04:50
What should i tell the Embassy exactly i don’t know what to the emassy so please kindly help me out in this matter and tell me what should i ask them. Thank you

Hi britsimosay…I am a winner dv 2019AF10xxx and have submitied ds 260 before 10 July 2018, but currently d ceac site is down for maintainable. Two questions…
1. Will they be ask us to resubmit again like it happen we play dv 2019?
2.Do we stand better chance in receiving 2NL since most people are yet to process due to this problem of maintenance?

Hello Simon, I have a question. I will be holidaying in America during Oct this year, which is the usual timeframe for diversity lottery to start — Can I submit my diversity lotto application in America? I am concerned that their computer system will take note that I am using an American IP address and hence ignore my application or render it invalid. Love to hear your thoughts and advice on this. Thank you.

No problem.

Hey Simon we’ve passed the interview and got our visa. I’ve been reading lately that Trump pressures for a bill that ends the lottery to be passed. Could it be a problem if a bill like that gets passed and we still haven’t entered the US at the time of the bill ?

This talk has been going on for 18 months with no progress, so there is nothing to say unless some law actually gets passed.

Hi Brit,
Thanks again for the great blog.
My case nr. is 2019EU15XXX, I’m Spanish but I have lived and worked in Finland for the last 7 years, so I submitted the DS260 application selecting the embassy in Finland.
Now I got a job in Ireland and I’m planning to move there by October (Ireland is also a DV EU eligible country). Do I need to update the embassy to select the one in Ireland or I can still keep the one in Finland and travel here when the interview is scheduled?
Thanks in advance.

No need to rush – your interview won’t be until spring 2019. Once you have moved you should update your address, and doing that will cause KCC to select the embassy appropriate for that address

Hi Mr.Brit,
I asked this question before, I just wanted more clarifications if you can help what to do , my case number is AF37000 from Sudan, the city of birth in my birth certificate differs from the city of birth I wrote in my initial application and my passport.
1- should I change my passport with the new city of birth.
if not
2- what should I write in the DS260 form regarding city of birth.
3- will this cause in difficulties in issuing my visa.
accept my appreciation for what you doing

1. I don’t know. Normally documents are related, meaning you need a birth cert to get a passport. Since document standards are so poor in your country, I don’t know what to answer. Use your own judgement.
2. See 1
3. I don’t know.

Dear Brit,
My interview is in next month.Today I went to do my Medical for interview. But doctor didn’t do my medical because I’m pregnant and can’t get X’ray. My VOG doctor advised me that don’t get X’rays. I asked about this matter from the embassy. They said if I couldn’t complete my medical before September they can’t issue visa. Brit, is being pregnant a reason to refuse a visa? Please give me your advise.
Thank you

Pregnant women usually have xrays but with a shield for the fetus. I’m sure the panel physician offered you that, but you declined. That is up to you, but you will not get a visa without a completed medical including Xrays.

Hi Brit,
I am a winner of DV2019 along with my family with 2019AF54xx as the case number.
I have supplied the information of the petitioner correctly on my DS260 form, that of my wife and son but on mine step-daughter form i have come to realized after submission of the DS260 form, a slight error that i have made in the same petitioner address which was supposed to be correctly like number one(1) but instead i put number two(2)
****Edited out address info****
Should i write KCC to unlock the DS260 form for my step-daughter to make the change?
kindly advise me Brit.

This doesn’t matter – no need to correct.
By the way – are you actually planning to live in Fargo? Do you know how cold it gets there?

at which trimester your pregnancy now(weeks). without x ray your medical report is incomplete means that you wont have your medical which means you are not fulfiling the requirements for the interview. mine was the same case bt pregnancy was advanced so could do x ray according to advice of the doctor. if no xray means no way for interview as far as i know.
