August 15, 2018 at 09:40
Hi I am selectee of dv2018, had issue on my husband missing documents at interview.
Additional documents are provided next day to embassy. Waiting for AP changes to issued….
Is it gonna slow down process if I call or send email to customer service for update status?
Time is essential in these time frame since we only have 10days to end if month. Which cause case number back in September case from scratch.
August 15, 2018 at 14:31
Contacting them doesn’t slow the case down.
August 15, 2018 at 22:33
Thank you
I will contact them

Hi
First of all thanks a lot for you and yours blog for all the stuffs.finalley we received our visa just one to ask can we go to another state by changing our address to poe for delivery of gc and social card
August 14, 2018 at 18:14

August 14, 2018 at 17:55
Hi BRIT
again thank you for the great help to the dv winners.
I already landed on the American soil, this is my third day. Am in Texas, georgetown.
God bless your sacrifice to help.
1. the CBP officer in Michigan,Detroit ( my POE) told me the GC will arrive after 6 months. am wondering why it will take too long since others mostly get it in less than 3 months. ( my sponsor paid for me the greencard fees before I take off)
2 since I replied yes in the Ds260 on the question of wanting the social security number, do I have to stay here and wait for it to be delivered at my adress or I have to go to the SSN office to apply for it?
August 14, 2018 at 18:15
1. Probably faster than the officer said.
2. Wait 2-3 weeks.

Hi Simon
I am a 2019DIV winner
Single person applying for the DIV – no family.
I have read your FAQ regarding I134 ( AND why it is more relevant than the I – 864)
I do believe I understand it.
In doing preparatory reading I found the following when reading the document pre interview checklist my relevant consulate has on its website – I have copied and pasted here below :
” Applicants who fall into any category listed in italics below should bring these additional documents:
For family-based visa applications:
The appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS
transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s.
Proof of your U.S. petitioner’s status and domicile in the United States (photocopy of a U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, or lawful permanent resident card).
Evidence of the relationship between the petitioner and visa applicant (such as photographs, letters, or emails). ”
There is no mention of the I 134. being needed to be completed for any applications
I have taken note that it specifies for family based visa applications.
Would you agree with my opinion that I do not need to find a sponsor and get an I -134 completed ?
Or is it safer to try and get it done ?
I do not really have a friend or family person to ask as a sponsor – more an acquaintance and as such I am not too sure they would be too comfortable completing an I 134 for my application
I do have more than $10 000 to show in my account and will probably be able to show a letter confirming that I have a job interview lined up in the event my 2NL is successful.
Please advise
Thank you
August 14, 2018 at 19:18
My article about an I-134 was clear and accurate. ALL immigration cases have to satisfy a public charge concern one way or another, and the I-134 is part of standard law, was mentioned in the DV lottery FAQ, and is being increasingly used.
You have not told me which consulate you will process through, but your IP address suggests South Africa. Therefore an I-134 is recommended.
August 15, 2018 at 12:00
Thanks for confirming Simon – much appreciated
August 14, 2018 at 19:44
I am not replacing Simon(How dare I? Not even in my dream. He is the Boss here and knows a lot in this DV stuff).
I just want to tell you that my embassy didn’t state i-134 form as a requirement too(Dakar embassy) but guess what: The first question they ask you(even before the interview: when they are collecting documents) they ask for a sponsor i.e i-134. It is very funny. They dont even wait for interview and ask for it. No no and no. The sponsor form(i-134) is part of the documents as birth certificate or police/criminal report even though they didn’t include it in the required documents on their website.
So please my dear friend; listen to Simon and secure your future.
Good lucky

Thanks for the feedback Umwimukira.
I was not disputing anything – just confirming some doubts that were creeping in.
I do appreciate your anecdotal feedback and taking time to post the comment.
August 14, 2018 at 20:46
Hi Simon
I had an interview this august the 6th, i was put in administrative processing, it says that it will take 6 to 9 weeks.
So Simon the DV year will finish at the end of september, if my AP took longer and after the DV year final, does it mean my visa is over, i wont expect any answer?
August 14, 2018 at 22:22
Yes.
August 15, 2018 at 01:15
Firstly, I am so sorry if this is answered elsewhere on your site – have had a hunt and couldn’t quite find.
I’m residing in Australia, of NZ citizenship. Did my interview in July in Sydney for DV2018, with one doc missing. that I was waiting on from NZ. It was sent to the Sydney Consulate, and unfortunately it wasn’t clocked in time and I’m now on the waiting list for August, then September if none becomes available in August.
1.) In your experience, how often do people on the waiting list actually receive visa (considering my region as well)? and 2.) I have flights booked to NZ on 2nd September. Do you know if it is possible for me to take that flight, and if a visa number becomes available, come back to Sydney and wait here until visa issued? Have asked the consulate the latter and no clear answer – I do know you have to be in the country (in this case Australia) for the visa to be issued.
Thanks for all the info you have had on this site, cant tell you how helpful it has been!
August 15, 2018 at 05:48
1. There is no “usually” to be applied here.
2. That would reduce the chance of a visa.
August 15, 2018 at 03:42
I got marrige at under age so I don’t have married certificate can I fill up single Ds-260 form for further process without married certificate?
August 15, 2018 at 05:21
It’s pretty simple. If you’re still married, you apply as married and if you’re divorced, you apply as divorced. Either way, you’re NOT single and if you apply as single then you’re committing fraud and will be disqualified.
August 15, 2018 at 05:50
Without knowing laws and customs in your country I cannot answer.
August 15, 2018 at 07:24
We talk about legally married which means proved with a marriage certificate. If u didn’t have it when u enter dv lottery so u are OK but get legally married as soon as possible and submit your D’s as married and declare your partner and kids if u have any…
August 15, 2018 at 14:34
Is that a question? If so – make it clear.
August 15, 2018 at 12:43
Brit,
I have just been re-scheduled for interview on 25th Aug. at Nairobi Embassy, after missing initial interview due to medical delay back in June. what a relieve. My Family had already been issued. Just hoping all will be well.
August 15, 2018 at 14:27
Good luck.
August 15, 2018 at 14:23
Hi brit, mi mom was born in Angola ( Africa ) but she is Portuguese because Agongola was a colonie of Portugal. When she fill out the ds260 she put City of birth Portugal and the real city was ( Luachimo ) and Contry of birth put Portugal and the real Contry of Birth was ( Angola ). These mistakes are a reason for denie the visa in Agust 2018 ?
August 15, 2018 at 14:25
Yes that is certain to be a denial.
August 15, 2018 at 14:56

Hi Simon
Am Shey Belinda case # 2018AF41XXX do I have any chance to be interviewed?
August 15, 2018 at 15:12
No. The final cutoff is 39500.
August 15, 2018 at 19:28
Why is it that visa numbers were not estimated and the interview organized on such a way that at least the first 50000 case numbers are scheduled for interview. It is quite heart breaking to be selected and not even at least be eliminated at the interview level.but at the level of cutoffs. You know you must be very lucky to be selected for further processing.
August 16, 2018 at 01:00
It’s a mystery that can only be solved by reading some of the numerous articles I have written.
August 15, 2018 at 16:14

August 16, 2018 at 15:21
Read the FAQ about I-134. Get that.

August 15, 2018 at 18:25
Hi brit, I have a question in order to anticipate about DV 2019 number comparing in DV 2018 ones. You said in DV 2018 16023 real cases are covered regarding 25775 cutoff numbers and according to starting derivative(1.99) we can assume that at least roughly 32000 selectees out of 41706 without extracting “no responses” are covered and also no response and derivative rate was the highest of all time.If it is, so there are 30006 selectees totally in DV 2019 .According to 2018 pace (it was so slow),can we say that all case numbers in DV 2019 will be current?.What do you think about this? What other factors could impact to decrease the number even below 32000?
August 15, 2018 at 18:38
Sorry, no response was the lowest I mean
August 16, 2018 at 01:02
I am not ready to speculate.
August 15, 2018 at 20:02
Hi Simon
I had an interview this august the 7th, i was put in administrative processing,
So Simon the DV year will finish at the end of september What is your answer my visa issued in up to 30september or not and expired
August 16, 2018 at 00:58
How the heck would I know?
August 15, 2018 at 20:09
Sorry, but why repeating same question if you received your answer above ?
August 15, 2018 at 22:11
Hello Simon,
I am a selectee of DV 2019 with family. My question is particular and therefore I decided to write down here. Unfortunately my country, Iran is included in Travel Ban or proclamation by US president and I am looking to see how can I have some chances to obtain the visa. Actually my real brother lives in USA as a winner of DV since some years ago. Myself, I am out of my country about five years, work and live in other country. My wife is pregnant and we expect the new member of family prior to the interview for visa. My son studies at school here which is not in our native language.
Now, I have some questions and hope you will have time to guide me about.
– Due to some restrictions and circumstances (religious and political discussions in internet …) we are afraid to go back to Iran and even we are thinking to do the delivery of baby in this African country accepting all its risks rather than go to Iran. In this case, we may obtain the passport of this country for our baby, now my question is wether this matter will somehow impact our visa application positively or not?! I mean our situation and different passport of my baby.
– As I have my family here just because of my job, once the job gets ended, I will be obliged to leave the country and be back to Iran. In this case, continuing the school of my son in Iran will be quiet impossible as in Iran there is only one school where my son can continue his study which is located in capital. It means I have to move and settle in capital, which is unbearable and I cannot afford it at all. Moreover, due to conditions there and my expertise, I cannot find a job there.
– I have realized that being back to Iran is my last and exactly last choice in case of leaving from here and therefore I have already started to apply for immigration to Canada or Australia. I will do anything to avoid of going back to Iran. Now, with being a selectee of DV program, there is a chance for me to join my brother in US and it is a great improvement for both of us, rather than being away from our parents and from each other as well.
Now having said all of these stories, I want to know in my case, which points could be helpful to provide me some chances despite the travel ban. I mean to be a waver at least and to see what will happen in next step.
I appreciate you to give me some advice.
August 16, 2018 at 00:55
Nothing you have said will get you a waiver. Realistically, unless you have a second nationality, you will not be approved while the travel ban is in force.
August 15, 2018 at 23:42
Dear Simon
Thank you for blog and support.
I send mail to customer support, hoping AP will process by end of month.
As I read your blog about running out for visa, you said Asia might be exception…
Why is that?
Isn’t it just total number of 50000 in worldwide? Or each region has certancnumber they can issue?
August 16, 2018 at 00:53
Each region has their own quota.
August 16, 2018 at 03:32
Hello Brit, with regard to the “first travel to US” topic, I have a question related to the common misunderstandings that usually a DV holder faces when buying a flight ticket to travel by first time to US; as per my knowledge goes there is a sort of guide with official reference documentation which is pretty useful to discuss with an Airline representative at the moment of buying the tickets; do yo have any advice for this matter? Can you please provide the link for the aforementioned guide?
Thanks in advance for your kindly support.
August 16, 2018 at 04:34
I have no idea what misunderstandings you could mean.
August 16, 2018 at 05:50
Sometimes airlines representatives don’t want to sell or arrange flight tickets to DV holders due to their lack of knowledge about this kind of visa; therefore, they sometimes think that who have a visa without a period of validity larger than 6 month cannot travel to the U.S. and as I told you before as per my knowledge goes, there is I guide with some advice on how to solve this situations but i don´t know how to find it.
August 16, 2018 at 15:22
THat is ridiculous. It’s an immigrant visa. Buy the ticket from some other business.
August 16, 2018 at 04:43
Dear Mr.Simon,
I had an interview last 2nd August . Everything went fine , I want to thank you for that. CO said I will recieve everything in 7-10 working days.
I checked CEAC website it says “Issued” since the day I had an interview.
The problem is untill now , I haven’t receive my passport yet. It’s beyond 7-10 working days already.
I really feel worry about it. Do you think that there is an issue about my case and will turn to AP or Refused?
Thank you in advance
Sincerely,
August 16, 2018 at 04:46
No. Stop worrying.
August 16, 2018 at 05:09
Thank you Sir 🙂
August 16, 2018 at 05:12

August 16, 2018 at 15:18

Dear Brit,
My interview on July 19th. Co say submit IRS through email. I sent IRS and after 2 weeks today I got email from embassy please collect your visas . I m really happy Brit. Thanks ? for your services.
August 16, 2018 at 06:31
Dear Simon,
Most grateful for the many ways you are sacrificing for DV-Selectees in getting the best out of their selection for the program.
I am a selectee of the DV lottery for 2019 with case number 2019AF9*** and I woukd have my interview in Accra. I submitted my Ds-260 in the last week of June for myself, wife and two kids.
Passports for two of my derivatives had to be renewed and at the time I used dummy numbers to represent the passport numbers so i could amend the numbers once the passports were ready.
I sent KCC an email on friday August 10, 2018 and I received a mail today with the following response:
“Thank you for your inquiry.
We are unable to process your request to unlock the DS-260 for case number 2019AF9***. You will have an opportunity to make any necessary changes to your DS-260 after your initial Diversity Visa interview at a United States Embassy or Consulate. If you need to submit a new DS-260 for a new spouse or child, please contact the Embassy or Consulate where your interview will take place after you receive a scheduling confirmation letter through the Diversity Visa Entrant Status Check system. For changes to an existing DS-260, it is not necessary to contact the Embassy or Consulate in advance.”
1. Does this mail in a way suggest a change of policy on unlocking of already submitted forms, as per my case number I believe I am to expect an interview in the earliest in December 2018.
2. Would the initial passport numbers I indicated on my submitted DS-260 form put my case at risk?
3. Do I have any additional remedies with KCC considering the above or can I make any changes by contacting the US Embassy in Accra before my interview?
4. Does this message suggest that I may be scheduled for an interview earlier than expected?
I would be glad if you could spare some time within you busy schedule to help me get some answers to the above.
Thank you.
August 16, 2018 at 15:25
1. Possibly, but more likely to do with the problems they have with the CEAC system.
2. No
3. Try again in a few weeks.
4. No
August 16, 2018 at 20:40
Thanks very much Simon, I am really hoping that I can make these amendments before the interview as the stories purported to be from the Accra embassy isn’t any pleasant to say the least. But your answers above are reassuring though as it is encouraging.
However, in a worse case scenario, do you think the experiences in Accra could put my case AT RISK considering the information i provided could be considered as a misrepresentation of information or even fraud.
August 16, 2018 at 21:42
Don’t overthink trivial issues.
August 16, 2018 at 07:09
Hi Brit. The situation is that I work for 2 different organizations at the same time so my question is do i have to fill in the ds.260 all the current work places that I’m working for or rather choose only main one which I think is my core income? If I choose to report only one will they are able to find out the other one? Many thanks for response.
August 16, 2018 at 15:26
List your main job
August 17, 2018 at 01:30
Hi. Brits so if I list only 1 wouldn’t be consider dishonest or what? Cheers
August 17, 2018 at 04:12
I gave you my opinion.
August 16, 2018 at 10:59
hi brit! i had interview on august 6 and again called for some simple stuff in august 9 and approved ! the thing is its already 10 days of first day interview and a week of second, but case status is in ready, do you have any suggestion?? what should i do??
August 16, 2018 at 14:32
and while inquiring, embassy sent “this case is under legally mandated administrative processing in order to verify the qualifications for this visa” what this means?? do you have any suggestion??
August 16, 2018 at 15:44
That means the case is in AP. So you have to wait.
August 16, 2018 at 15:31
Wait patiently.
August 16, 2018 at 12:43

August 17, 2018 at 01:19
Hello there
I had my dv interview on 16 August
And consular requested to provide i-134, and federal tax return and w-2
But when I checked my status it show refused.
Is there any chance to get a visa after submitting the i-134, and federal tax return ???
August 17, 2018 at 04:11
Generally the lack of an I-134 would mean AP – not immediate refusal. So – it is likely they refused you for some other reason. Contact the embassy.
August 17, 2018 at 02:57
Hi Simon, I am just wondering why the website for DS-260 form dose not work for my case number( for DV2019 selected candidate). I have email to KCC’s staff and they said that the page is no maintenance stage and they don’t know how long dose it take. In fact, I want to complete my DS 260 as soon as possible, thus do you have any advise on how to solve it? Thanks a lot of your kind. Pheak
August 17, 2018 at 04:13
No, just wait for a week or two.
August 17, 2018 at 03:14
Hope u are doimg greay My question is as a winner of the dv lottery and the principal applicant can I go first to the USA and my husband go after he is derivative 1. Or both of us has to enter together
August 17, 2018 at 04:13
You can enter before the derivative or with him. But each must enter before the expiry date of the visa.
August 17, 2018 at 03:21
Hi Simon

I got email from embassy
August 17, 2018 at 06:15
Hi Brit!
I’ve unlocked DS-260 to add my wife since we’re married now. I wanted to change location but on my entry it’s not editable. I presume if my wife chose different location it will be location chosen by me either way? Also she got a child from previous relationship I think I read somewhere that we need to include her in the spouse application but we don’t have to add new applicant if she’s not going to USA?
Many thanks.
Fran
August 17, 2018 at 15:12
The child should be listed on BOTH your DS260s, but you are correct – only create a DS260 for the child if she is emigrating.
THe location will be based on your current address.
August 17, 2018 at 06:28
Hello,
Yesterday We received our visas. (5 member family) Thanks for your kind help by this blog website. I got lot of information from this website. additionally my 21 years old son also got a visa. According to embassy calculations he got visa, even though he is age out about 2 months. but still 21 years old. I have small problem regarding plastic green card. I am suppose to stay US about two month and my family members will stay US about one week and return to motherland to settle things in home country. Could I take all the plastic green cards with myself to the home country after 2 months? is it illegal to take others green cards with myself?
Thanks a lot Mr. Brit and I want to donate to this website, without this help it is very difficult to get information.
Thanks.

No problem with you carrying all the GCs – or even mailing them.

Please send a link of where to find the information about extending your 1 year’s grace between initiation trip and taking up residency, we may need an extra 2 months and have a legitimate reason. Thanks,

There is no such link. 1 year is the maximum without prior permission – and that permission is sought before you leave the USA.

Do you think arriving with 1 day to go will be frowned upon/penalized?
August 18, 2018 at 14:25
It’s risky. What if the flight is delayed???

Hello dv2019,
After security procedures at the embassy entrance we went to visa section the cashier asked for the interview fees and he said you have 21 years old child, would you like to pay for him also, because if visa denied for him no refund will be granted. We said no problem, We will pay for him also. After payment has done our documents and fingerprints were taken. But 21 years old child fingerprints didn’t take. After few calculations done 21 years old child fingerprints were taken. Then interview was taken by a visa officer and took fingerprints again. (a small counter). Then he interviewed myself and my spouse.(He said to my children please be seated, if I need you I’ll call.) He asked about myself and my spouse details, how we met before marriage and asked much questions about sponsor (i134). principle applicant educational qualifications, children birthdays, birthplace like basic questions. After that he gave a letter of tentatively approved visa and in that letter mentioned about the date that we want to collect the passports. But in that mentioned date we didn’t receive the visas. because embassy said still not ready but yesterday we received the visas. (after 2 weeks from interview)

To clarify, the 21 year old was 21 years and 2 months at interview – correct?

Hello,
My child became 21st on october 2017 and after adding extra time (209 days) he was age out on may 2018. Our case became current on August 2018 as visabulletin. According to my calcultions as website he won’t be able to get visa. He was 2 month age out. But embassy also calculated and got the fingerprints and gave a visa. I think jesus gave him a chance also. I’m believe in Jesus. Thanks God. Thanks again Brit Simon.

So the embassy made a mistake.
August 18, 2018 at 02:45
Hello,
When calculating dates the person inside the embassy calculated dates from June by using his computer. I don’t know is it a mistake or not.
August 18, 2018 at 05:22
From the dates you have given – I am certain they made a mistake.

Dear BritSimon,
I have been contacted from the US embassy, Baghdad to send them our original passports after being in administrative process. Does that mean they have completed administrative process and are going to issue us Visas?
Appreciate your assistance.
Sincerely,
Adam

Well, they don’t need your passports to NOT issue the visa. However, don’t celebrate until the visa is in your hand.

Hi Brit,
I’m finally married. I’ve unlocked my wife’s DS-260. I’m going to add my self but I’ve noticed that I can change location but on my wife DS-260 that option is disabled. So I guess we won’t be able to change the location? I need to go with the same as she got? Also I know that you already answered this but I didn’t have chance to see your response. I only need to add my child from previous relationship under my application if they not going with me? No need to get the separate applicant?
Thanks for all your help and time!
Maciek

Dear piu, you mentioned “age out for 2 months” Do you mean biological age or CSPA age ?
August 17, 2018 at 10:24
Hi,
my case number is 2019AS23XX
1. When I might get the 2nd letter?
2. Can I start preparing documents now? IF I make it now, I guess it(including police certificate) will be old enough for interview. Will it affect for visa?
thank you
