Good day Mr Brit. Sir, I just came into the USA about a week, so I’m still waiting for my social security, my question is that is it advisable to work without a social security?
August 21, 2018 at 17:03
It is OK, it depends on your employer.
August 21, 2018 at 12:06
Hi Mr. Simon
Pls I need your help on this.
I attended my interview in Cameroon pending my medical report , I was asked to come with it so they can approve my visa. After 2 weeks I went and deposited my medical report and I was told to fill a form needing my phone number, case number. Then I was asked to drop it in a box in an envelope containing my report and my passport. I dropped and I was told I will be called. Telling me I shouldn’t visit the consular nor call them but I should wait for the call .Its been more than a week now
1) I’m curious to find out if they actually have seen my documents. Don’t know what to do.
2) can I know the days and time I should be expecting their call? ( if they have time and days set for that )
3) if I’m called will I be interviewed again? Or will I just go and receive an already visa stamped passport ? (That’s if I’m aproved)
4) possibly how long can it take before I’m called?
Thank you.
August 21, 2018 at 13:31
1. Wait.
2. No
3. Typically not.
4. I don’t know.
August 22, 2018 at 00:00
Ok Sir. Thank you
August 21, 2018 at 10:41
Hello Sir,
I have ticked “Yes” in the question “Do you have any documentation regarding the Vaccination”. i thought it is verified in Medical so i ticked Yes.
But the problem is I dont have any vaccination docs. Should I unlock and tick back it to “No”.
August 21, 2018 at 13:28
No is the correct answer – BUT answering yes or no doesn’t matter on that question.
August 21, 2018 at 15:48
So it will not hamper in the interview..

Dear Simon,
My friends , Female , is a DV 2018 winner form Thailand
Sha had interview last January , she got approved and got Greencard already .
The problem is she has a kid which already include in DS260 but she didn’t bring her kid to the interview because the kid was too young (3 years old ) . US embassy rescheduled for her kid case this coming 4 September.
My question is , besides from her mon . Who can accompany the kid .
My friends is in US right now but her kid will have interview in Thailand
My friend had interview alone because she devorce with her Husband.
August 21, 2018 at 13:26
I have no idea. The child should have been at the original interview. She processed the case incorrectly – and I imagine they will tell her to sponsor the child via an I-130.
August 21, 2018 at 13:30
Thank you Simon . I’m sorry if I have disturbed you. I really appreciate your hard work.
August 21, 2018 at 05:34
Sir I have put my education qualification as Master’s Degree in my Initial Entry of the EDv. But In DS260 form there is no option for Master’s degree in highest qualifiaction. Which option is suitable for master’s degree ??
Advanced Degree or University degree sir?
Please suggest me sir
August 21, 2018 at 05:39
Use your own judgement.
August 21, 2018 at 08:58
sir please tell me is advanced degree =masters degree
August 21, 2018 at 09:11
As far as I know; in advanced degree category there is a Master degree and a Phd degree. It really doesnt matter; the important thing is to put accurate info. You have a master degree put a master degree or advanced degree it really doesnt matter.
And you can google “US education system” for more information.
August 21, 2018 at 13:22
COME ON!
You have a masters degree and you can’t figure this out?? You are being lazy, and expecting me to answer every single question. You are not respecting my time. USE SOME COMMON SENSE.
August 21, 2018 at 03:49
hi my sister had being select among dv2019 selectees but is a certain company that did it for her and they are refusing to give her the case number because she can’t afford the fee the company is charging her but they have given her a copy of her letter without the case number. how can she get the case number if she can provide the her name, date of birth and the
name of the company that did it for her.
August 21, 2018 at 05:01
She needs the name, date of birth and entry email address. If she has that – she can use the ESC page.
August 20, 2018 at 21:41
Hii simon my bro got DV 2019,he wants to fill ds260 ,he is married and he has one child but he did not mention them in the first application,b/ce at that time he did not get their photo with him.so if he includes now is that a problem whichh one is better.

https://britsimonsays.com/easiest-way-to-get-disqualified-from-dv-lottery/
August 21, 2018 at 01:08
Disqualification… the rules are pretty clear when it comes to “ommitting” family members. They can’t be included now if they weren’t in the original application unless he wasn’t married at the time and they didn’t have a child yet but as your comment suggests, he was already married and a father back then.
August 20, 2018 at 17:27
Dear Brit,
Can you please tell me how much time it will take registering in the immigration on airport(new york). I have connecting flight so I worry that I might miss it.
Tnx
August 20, 2018 at 23:52
Allow 3 to 4 hours between flights.
August 20, 2018 at 16:26
Hi Britsimon
I have a case number of EU28XXX for 2019.Do you think that I will have a chance to interview as they cut off in 25575 in 2018 in Europe. The number of selectees seems to be appx 31000 in 2019 for Europe. What is my realistic chance?

August 20, 2018 at 16:00
Actually i just want to know is there any problem if i open my ds 260 form even after completion and confirmation printed???
August 20, 2018 at 17:02
Hello I think that you are mixing things or you are confused somehow.
The fact is that you can always”view” your DS 260 information BUT you can not “edit”, “amend” or “change” any single line once you completed it and submitted it without getting approval from KCC. You can view and print your DS 260 information but when you need to amend it you have to write to KCC for their approval(they unlock your form so that you can edit it).
Regards,
Umwimukira
August 20, 2018 at 23:50
No problem.
August 20, 2018 at 15:58
I completed my ds 260 form and submittted and printed my confirmation before and again actually i opened my ds 260 again after printing the confirmation page… so what i want to ask is does only opening my ds 260 form will cause my case delayed b coz i have not mailed kcc to unlock my ds 260 as my case number is 2019AS37×× and ds 260 submission date is 19th of june
August 20, 2018 at 13:38
My apologies as I am sure I have seen this question before..I need to change address where my SSN and green card is mailed to. When and how can I do that ? And can changing it jeopardise anything?
August 20, 2018 at 13:48
Hi Chè! I read you can simply ask about the change at the interview without any negative consequences.
August 20, 2018 at 14:25
At the POE.
August 20, 2018 at 14:28
Thank you!
August 21, 2018 at 04:56
I have asking to change green card address in the date of my interview, when checking docs.
August 20, 2018 at 13:18

August 20, 2018 at 14:22
Sometimes, yes.
August 20, 2018 at 08:55
Hello Simon,
My mom is a selectee of DV2019 (SA10XX), I’m filling application for her, dad and my sister. I’m 25.
Simple question: does an empty passport issued just months ago for them affect the visa approval? (For example CO could think they don’t have enough funds due to no travel history, he/she can think they don’t have money to go to the USA and live there) Really want to know if they should visit some countries to avoid presenting an empty password.
Thank you!
August 20, 2018 at 14:20
Doesn’t matter.
August 20, 2018 at 08:49
My brother dv2019 is there second draw for dv2019 randomly again
August 20, 2018 at 14:19
You have been on my site for a year. There is no need to ask questions you have seen answered hundreds of times.
August 19, 2018 at 23:31
Hi Brit, my wife won the DV-2019 we already completed our selectee application , we have 2 girls. My younger girl looks very small on her picture when we applied last November, now she is growing up so fast so do I need to send to KCC an updated picture?
Another question: on the online instructions, they don’t mention if a few documents should be dated less than 6 months before, can you please send your feedback? Thanks a lot.
August 20, 2018 at 00:31
1. No
2. You have to be clear.
August 20, 2018 at 06:55
Thanks, let me explain better myself with a few more questions:
-I have read that a few documents to be delivered at the interview should have an issue date at least 6 months before however I could not read anything about it on the official DV program web site. Can you confirm?
-We chose “NO” for the following question: “Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law?” with the following explanation “I AM IN PROCESS TO REVIEWING VACCINATION RECORDS AND I WILL RECEIVE THE REQUIRED VACCINATIONS ON OR BEFORE THE DATE OF MEDICAL EXAM” however I have found out that we have same vaccination in Europe and if one of them is missing, they will be done during the medical appointment. Do you think that I should contact KCC and change to “YES”?
-We are French based in Spain, we will need to translate a few documents from French to English, shall we contact an official French-English translator listed in the embassy web site? Our interview will take place in Madrid.
-If we get the Diversity Visa, shall we make a short trip to the US first in order to validate our Green card before making the big move (sell our house, cars etc..)?
-In case that we are not invited for the interview with a CN below the cut-offs, shall we receive a notification why?
August 20, 2018 at 07:12
I mean an official French-English translator listed in the Embassy of PARIS web site. Indeed the translators listed in the Embassy of MADRID might translate only from Spanish…

August 19, 2018 at 17:55
Probably not.
August 19, 2018 at 16:31
The expiry date in the visa is November. So it’s possible to leave on October, right? The date on the visa is the determine.
August 19, 2018 at 16:23
Hi brit, first I want to thank you so much! For all your help.
I am selected in the DV2018. I got the visa one month ago. In the visa they wrote that the visa is valid until November, but they are told me something about September (I didn’t understand what they are mean).
If the Visa is valid until November, can I leave on October? I am worry. If it’s unti September, I will fly in the next week.
August 19, 2018 at 16:25
I have no idea what they told you about September. Make sure you enter before the expiry date.
August 19, 2018 at 15:47
Hi. Happy to say that I finally went from AP to Issued on the CEAC. Now just awaiting our passports. Definitely has been a roller coaster of an experience! I plan to go over to the US for one week to Activate the Status. I just wanted to make sure that is possible? Can the people who receive my SS card and Green card send it to me (Out of country) so I can use it to enter the US when I return? Thanks so much
August 19, 2018 at 15:48
That’s fine.
August 19, 2018 at 22:30
Please how long was your case on AP?
August 20, 2018 at 08:44
AP was for 2 weeks. Dublin embassy specifically told me the process takes 10 working and that was true.
August 20, 2018 at 11:14
What was the cause of the AP?
Does they asked you to fill DS5535 form or it was something else?
August 20, 2018 at 12:46
There was no real AP as it’s just how long the embassy take to process the visa. No I didn’t need to complete a DS535
August 19, 2018 at 15:33
Thank you for your support and being so kind with everyone. I am in the Europe Regions and I have the case number 25778 for 2018 dv lottery: do I have any chance to have an interview on September because my number was 3 numbers out. Thank you.
August 19, 2018 at 15:45
3 or 3000, it’s the same – no chance of interview.
August 19, 2018 at 15:31
Hi brit, I got my visa from Nepal. In the immigration data summary packet which I received from the bank, it’s written Final address in the us: Virginia. Does that mean I have to submit that packet to Virginia? Can I go to Louisiana directly instead? Or I must go to Virginia at first and then move later on?
Thank you
August 19, 2018 at 15:45
Go where you want.
August 23, 2018 at 21:06
hello Jagu, are a 2019 winner?
August 19, 2018 at 14:48
Hi Brit, I post here a couple of days ago about my case 2019ASXXX where I chose the wrong chargeability country (should be EU)… So I wrote the Jerusalem embassy a letter and after a week they called me. They said it might be a problem according to the law (as you and the state site explains) but she is not authorized to tell me if I will be denied only the consular. I told her I don’t see the point to pay for medical exams and the Visa fee if that a denial. She said don’t do the medical exam just pay the interview visa fee and after the meeting with consular you will complete the medical examination.. So according to her I need to wait for the interview (because I completed the DS-260 before I knew about the mistake)…
So, it seems like according to all posts I read here and other places there is no chance to proceed with DV-2019.. So why should I try to go to the interview and waste 330 USD?
Besides, receiving an official denial from government could effect my future tries of receiving either immigration or non-immigration grants?
What would you suggest to do in this scenario?
August 19, 2018 at 15:13
I already told you. Denial is certain.
August 19, 2018 at 14:29
Hi Brit I had my interview at Riyadh embassy in 16th of Augustus it was smooth and they approved my visa and said the passport with visa will arrive in 1-2 next weeks
But after the interview by 1 or 2 hours they called me asking for DS5535 and my case went to AP in 16th Augustus so i had fill and sent the form immediately
I had chack my ceac status it still shows AP but the date of last update have been changed to 19th Augustus does this a good sign and mean that they have start working on it?
Thank you
August 19, 2018 at 15:49
You cannot infer anything from status updates.
August 19, 2018 at 12:34
I’m a DV2019 winner. Last year, I have been offered a MSc scholarship in a US university. Therefore, I have applied for F1 visa. My visa application is under ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING since 09. July.2017 till now. Accordingly, I missed the Scholarship. Now, I have been selected for DV2019 and wondering Should I start my application for DV2019 or wait for my Last F1 visa application?
August 19, 2018 at 15:52
The DV process could affect the F1 process. Think about your case number and don’t submit your DS260 too soon.
August 30, 2018 at 04:22
I don’t want to continue in my F1 visa application because I have already missed the scholarship. I fear from the opposite (F1 affect the DV process). So, Should I submit DS260?
I mean can I cancel my F1 application and start the DV’s application?
August 30, 2018 at 05:12
The F1 will not affect the DV case.
August 19, 2018 at 11:52

2. when we are arrive in usa airport with our dv lottery for the first time which line should we queue onto for permanent resident or for visitors?
3. is it true that we will undergo another interview at the airport?
4. is it true that when we are in using during our first entry we will have to go to both social security office and us immigration office otherwise we would not receive our social security card and green card?

SORRY IF THIS MESSAGE WOULD SHOW MANY TIMES ON YOUR WEB, I M RE-SENDING IT MANY TIMES BECAUSE AFTER I SEND IT ITS NOT SHOWING THAT ITS HAS BEEN POSTED
Thanks for your help.
August 19, 2018 at 15:54
1. Any airport an airlines flies from abroad is a POE.
2. Visitors.
3. Not an interview – just a different process.
4. No
5. No

Hello Simon..It’s really kind of you for all the insights about the Dv ..I have a concern. My brother-in-law had played for me the 2018 Dv from Zambia where he is a resident and I in Congo Kinshasa. the time he was playing, I must move to his home in Zambia for a period of one year because I have to follow a training in English for 6 months to passmy admission test as a doctor. so when registering for the Dv he had put an address of his home stating this mention: C / o: Enenda. address: Zambia. ..and now I am in Zambia but I would like to spend my interview in my own country. Will this be able to prejudge me by filling in Ds260. my new address in Congo. I have only done in Zambia for four months and I will start returning to Zambia. from time to time and this for a year .Thank you for answering me.
August 19, 2018 at 15:57
I don’t need the life history.
Can you change your address? Yes.

August 19, 2018 at 08:26
Hello Mr. Simon. My wife is a selectee of DV 2019. we have a son who is not our biological child and he was included in the original entry, we took custody of him at birth because his mother who who was an elder sister of my wife died while giving birth to him. Are we to provide legal document of adoption during our interview?
August 19, 2018 at 16:00
Yes you need legal adoption papers and those must show the adoption took place at least 2 years before the interview. So – if you did not already do that, it is too late to do it now.
August 19, 2018 at 06:28
Sir, i found that my birth certificare and.highschool diploma Name with my country ID Card and passport are different, birth and highschool diploma are Lijaja but actually my Name is Lijaya ,passport and country ID even my Family Card is with Lijaya, i can explain why my birth certificate Name is with J because it has to Do with how our country now and past how to spell the alphabets, i knew it sounds weird, but i think i cant get any document about changing to legal Name because as you can see even my country ID Card, Family card, passport are using my Name with lijaya not with J, What are your thoughts about this case?
August 19, 2018 at 06:35
I have no thoughts about it…
August 19, 2018 at 10:47
so you think its okay? will this lead to AP or refusal?
August 19, 2018 at 15:56
I don’t think there is a problem.
August 19, 2018 at 06:06

Hello,
I won DV lottery on 2015 and all I need as a sponsorship was a welcome letter from my sponsor at the US. But, now one my friend has won the lottery in 2017, does he just need a welcome letter ? Or just the whole affidavit of support things
August 19, 2018 at 01:18
I-134.
August 18, 2018 at 22:08
Hi Brit…i want to know if there is any problem scanning my civil documents and certificate instead of submitting black and white photocopies.
August 18, 2018 at 23:48
You submit originals and copies.
August 18, 2018 at 20:28
Hi Britsimon,
When someone helps to submit DS-260 form to the principal applicant from abroad remotely, and answer to the question: Did anyone assist you in filing out this application? YES – does it mean that the person who helps must be physically next to the applicant or he/she can also help being abroad and do it remotely?
Thanks!
IMA
August 18, 2018 at 20:42
It doesn’t matter.
August 18, 2018 at 15:11

Hi Brit
I filled the DS260 form but I forgot to include the names for my 2 siblings on family information. Will that affect my application?
August 18, 2018 at 14:22
No
August 18, 2018 at 03:08
Sir, i remember when there was a question about where Have you lived since age 16, and they have this option to fill in, and i filled it from age 16 to now, because since i was born i lived in the same country but when i go to university i went study abroad, is it a problem? should i unlock it and change this from age 1 – 18 in my own country , 18 – now China, or leave it like this 16 – 18 my country , 18 – now China..
August 18, 2018 at 05:22
Use your own judgement.
August 18, 2018 at 12:09
Well, my own judgement is since they only ask age from 16. so Thats why i filled the form starting from 16.
Thank you my Sir!
August 18, 2018 at 00:30

Hi Brit.
I am the AF case holder who transfered my case to London and got my medicals delayed and hence received an email from the London embassy that they can’t issue visa until September.
Please my question is, I just checked the status of my case on CEAC website and the last updated date was today 20th of August. Please what does this mean? Does this indicates any sign of hope?
Thank you for your answer.
August 20, 2018 at 23:53
The updates don’t signify anything (or at least we cannot know the meaning).
August 17, 2018 at 18:49
Hello Brit
Do other countries embassies fingers print systems reflect in the US central finger print database? I lost my passport in which i used to travel to Tanzania and Kenya. Will this lost hamper my chances of getting visa?
I’m a DV winner with a new passport now.
August 17, 2018 at 19:33
No.
August 17, 2018 at 18:13

August 17, 2018 at 16:50
Hi Brit!
Thank you for your response!
In link that you give it’s little bit different since my wife is main applicant and she is not a mother of child, she didn’t include my child in to lottery form since we weren’t married. It doesn’t matter and she also need to include my child from previous relationship in her DS260 too?
Thanks,
Have a good weekend,
Maciej

She must now include YOUR child on her form since she is the child’s stepmother.

But mother of child is living with her, isnt the case that she will become stepmother in case of death of mother? Or in USA if you’re married to person that have a child you’re becoming step parent automatically?
Thanks,
Regards

Marriage doesn’t make any difference. This is still YOUR child, and therefore your wife’s stepchild.

Yes, being a step parent is automatic.

Hi Brit, I have been scheduled for interview on September 11th and I got married on August 5th the DS 260 form can’t be open now kindly advise what will be the best thing to do?

You’ll have to discuss it with the embassy. You have been asking questions since May, and never mentioned marriage plans. I hope this marriage is genuine – and not just to get an additional Green Card. The consequences for immigration fraud are serious.

Hi Brit, today I heard September 11 was a bad day in America. I have scheduled my appointment for September 11th because my conference meeting is Oct 1st. Please will this remembrance day affects my interview, because I heard they don’t usually give visa that day. I’m afraid because I didn’t know before and I can’t reschedule now because i will not meet up with the conference meeting I’m attending. Please reply me asap. Thanks, I’m worried sick now

Hi Simon – I know that trying to do any forecasting is impossible, but my friend’s Case # for 2019 is AF39xxx – I see the Selectee Numbers you just gave us for 2019 shows AF has only 38,247.
1) If things go “normally”, would this mean his chance of an interview is unlikely?
2) Also…because the Selectee Numbers are “modest” does that mean there’s a good chance that that number will be increased as the year goes on?
Thanks for a reply – Nota
