Hello sir. I want to know that while including name in the sponsor field in Ds260. First name should be written at first and then last name
or
Last name first and then first name? please reply me sir

PawanG/Romeo/Chandru
First, I do NOT appreciate you using multiple user IDs to post questions to try and fool me into thinking this was not the same person asking multiple questions. That is extremely disrespectful!
Secondly, I have told you to start using some common sense and not abusing my kindness by wasting my time. DO NOT ask me silly questions that you can decide for yourself. You supposedly have a masters degree, and are an adult. Put some effort into getting your visa and READ the FAQ plus other information I have posted.

Hi Simon
Is there such a thing as mentioned the sponsor on the ds260? I did not see anything like thatand I hope it is not a problem having not written his name on the ds260.
August 22, 2018 at 19:17
You do not have to mention a sponsor by name in the DS260 – but in a growing number of cases, it is necessary to show financial sponsorship with an I-134 (presented by the selectee at the interview). The person completing the I-134 does NOT have to be the same address as shown on the DS260 as the future (USA) address.
August 22, 2018 at 23:38
Very clear. I just thought that you actually mention the sponsor (from the above comment) in the application which you DONT unless the address is of the person who is providing bathe I-134.
Just confirming.
Thank you

August 21, 2018 at 21:54
Hi Brit,
My case number 2019EU***
I have not got invitation yet.. also l can’t open page with my ds260.. there are problem ” your case does not our record”… any time kcc answer me ”We are unable to process your request to unlock the DS-260 for case number 2019EU00000***. You will have an opportunity to make any necessary changes to your DS-260 after your initial Diversity Visa interview” l telling them l do not want to do any changes.. l just want to know which is my case status.. current or not.. when you are going invite me to interview? And they sent me the same… what l have to do brit?
Thank you Brit
August 21, 2018 at 22:00
You don’t need to access your DS260 to know your status – you just need to read the visa bulletin. If your number is low – as you seem to be saying, your number is current – so now you just need to exercise some patience and wait for your 2NL.
August 21, 2018 at 22:12
Thank you sir.. just little panic
September 17, 2018 at 19:43
Dear , aleksey what with your interview because i have tge same problem

August 21, 2018 at 23:51
hello brit,
while filing ds260 form, in education section i have put ignorantly my master’s degree as university degree. do i need to unlock my form or it will not harm my case?? ur suggestions please. am 2019 DV winner.
August 22, 2018 at 00:23
Doesn’t matter.
August 22, 2018 at 00:24
Hi Simon, I have read through all your questions and information and I see the numbers for September have been put up for the DV 2018 Lottery I am OC2226 so I am guessing I have missed out this year but just wanted to double check and see that these numbers are definite for next month or could they change slightly? Thanks so much!!
August 22, 2018 at 00:32
The numbers cannot change. So yes – you have missed out this year – but are free to re-enter.
August 22, 2018 at 01:14
Hello Mr Brit,
We did our interview today at Dakar my wife and I, they rejected us under section 212 A 5, but I thought if you have baccalaureat it is sufficient. Why they didn’t consider high school diploma?
August 22, 2018 at 02:48
I don’t know particulars about your case, nor the standards expected in Dakar. However, in general they are looking for the point in your education when you can enter University.
August 22, 2018 at 21:06
Hello Abubakr;
Are you from Guinea? I heard that most of the guys from Guinea do not
get approved at Dakar embassy. I personally know 3 guys who got rejected based on their high school education(some of them have master’s degree).
I do not know why this is happening but it is very sad.
Really sorry for you.
August 22, 2018 at 04:31
Dear Simon,
We recieved VISA today but my wife’s visa information is wrong.
They print a wrong Nationality on it which we never put that in DS260 .
Now I have sent it back to them to correct it . Do you think that will a risk that she will not recieve by this 30 September ?
Regards,
Pat
August 22, 2018 at 05:21
The visa is already issued – so it is not a problem.
August 22, 2018 at 05:33
To who ever knows the answer,
Q1: Found out 2 weeks ago I won the lottery, how much time do I have to fill out the DS-260 form and submit it
Q2: I’ve got the case number from the embassy, but don’t know the confirmation number because a third party company, so called “visa consultants” applied for me after I registered on their website with my personal information. And they applied for me later, getting the confirmation number and on their own e-mail address. So I can not even recover it.
I need the confirmation number to visit https://dvlottery.state.gov/, and see the date of the interview. Is there any other way to find my interview date?
August 22, 2018 at 05:41
Forgot to mention, they are asking for money and only after payment I can get the confirmation number
August 22, 2018 at 14:46
As I explained you don’t actually need the confirmation number.
August 22, 2018 at 15:19
Sorry, could you please tell why I do t need the confirmation number?
August 22, 2018 at 16:22
I told you on my other response. You don’t need to log in to see your 2NL if you can get the appointment details from KCC.
August 25, 2018 at 23:20
Hi Mr Brit, I been a while.. I wanted to know if there might be a second draw coming September or October? Thank you.
August 26, 2018 at 01:11
I don’t know.
August 22, 2018 at 14:46
1. If it is DV2019, you have plenty of time – months.
2. You should understand that the chance of denial for your case is high because you don’t know what the agent entered. You cannot excuse early mistakes by blaming the agent. However, if you want to take that risk and proceed, you can contact KCC once you get current and they might give you the interview details. They have done that before in such cases. So – if you want to proceed complete your DS260, and wait to be current. REad the link below.

August 22, 2018 at 15:30
Is there a deadline for filling out the DS-260?
August 22, 2018 at 16:23
Read point 1 again. PLease think about my responses to avoid asking everything twice.
August 22, 2018 at 05:57
if I’ve got married during the process, just before submitting the DS-260 form, can I bring my phone to show pictures for proving the relationship or I have to print out all the conversations and photos?
August 22, 2018 at 14:48
Print them – but again – this, in your case, increases the risk as you will already have revealed that *you* didn’t even enter the lottery (the agent did) and now you have added a derivative by marriage.
August 22, 2018 at 06:05
Hello sir. Can yiu tell me please if the applicant has psoriasis will he get a disqualification?
August 22, 2018 at 14:50

Hi Simon
I’m not a selectee or anything but I’ve been following your blog for a while now even after seeing that i wasn’t selected for DV2019. You are a God sent to so many people across the globe. Using your time which you could be doing something that brings you money, you are always there and willing to answer questions even the most annoying and repeated God made you go through this proce qbss for a reason my brother. He saw your heart. May He continue to abundantly bless you and your family. Stay blessed Mr Simon.
August 22, 2018 at 08:04
I agree, this man is helping a lot, a life changer, no need to hire an attorney with this precious website. Will donate for sure, hope you will be selected for DV2020 🙂
August 22, 2018 at 21:39
Thank you Jose.
August 22, 2018 at 14:51
Lovely sentiment – thank you.
August 22, 2018 at 08:58
What does section 213a5 mean?
August 22, 2018 at 15:01
212 (a) 5.
It relates to the law under which some refusals are made in DV cases. Not being qualified, or failing to follow the process correctly.
August 22, 2018 at 10:32
Hi Brit,
I have a question regarding work and adress history.
1) I know that I need to add last 10 years. It won’t be a problem that I added a job that I started working on July 2008, I worked there for 2 years. Just asking because we got August now and July 2008 is more than 10 years.
2) I know the exact start and end months for job history. But unfortunately I only now estimate days. Is it going to be a problem?
3) Similar question about adress history, I only know estimated months from and to where I was living, do you think it’s going to be a problem?
Thanks,
Maciek
August 22, 2018 at 11:43
Also I got a question regarding information on Dublin Embassy website:
“Original or certified copies of birth certificates for all children of the principal applicant (even if he or she is not accompanying).“
By your advise I added my child also under my wife’s DS-260 (she’s main applicant) so it means that we need to bring original birth certificate of my child?
Thanks,
Regards,
Maciek
August 22, 2018 at 15:06
Yes of course. Read the instructions about documents for derivatives.
August 22, 2018 at 15:04
1. No problem.
2. No
3. Same answer.
August 22, 2018 at 18:18
Hello!
I visited the USA in May 2011 with Work and Travel Program. I had J1 visa. I worked in the USA for three months. I don’t remeber if I had an Alian Registration Number and Social Security Number. What should I fill in Alian Registration Number? I filled that I don’t have ARN. I think I had a SSN, however I’m not sure. I filled that I issued SSN and that I don’t know the number. Is this ok? What is the best way I should fill in DS260?
August 22, 2018 at 19:17
That’s all ok.
August 22, 2018 at 19:04
Hi Simon, I’m a DV 2019 selectee from Ireland. My current understanding is selectees have a maximum of six months after being granted a diversity Visa to pass through a US port of entry. All going well, this starts the process of having the green card mailed to a designated US address. If I receive a DV, I plan to initially spend a short time in the US for this purpose.
However, Ireland appears to be unique in that US Pre-clearance are at Dublin airport, meaning passengers from Dublin land at domestic terminals in the US. Would this make US pre-clearance at Dublin my point of entry? If so, would it even be necessary to continue to the US for the purposes of having the green card posted to a US address.
Apologies for the somewhat academic nature of this question. Thank you for providing so much high-quality information through your website.
August 22, 2018 at 19:24
The pre-clearance is done once they are certain you are getting on a plane. It’s a technicality of processing and you most certainly would NOT want to then leave the airport without touching US soil. So – don’t assign more significance to the pre-clearance other than it being collecting your paperwork at a different point in your “flight”. You MUST travel to the USA for this to be active.
August 22, 2018 at 19:27
Thank you.
August 23, 2018 at 01:07
Hi Brit, I’m from Venezuela but I live in Argentina! I went to my appointment on August 2 and asked me some documents that had not taken, I indicated that should deliver them before the end of the month! I have them all but I only need one that arrives in two weeks because of problems with shipping agencies in Venezuela! I’m desperate! I thought about writing an email explaining the situation, but I’m afraid to reject me! What do you think I should do? The document is my husband’s divorce act. thanks for your coments
August 23, 2018 at 04:01
I think you should provide the documents you have. The delay is going to take your case past the end of the month, which introduces significant risk. Do something ASAP.
August 23, 2018 at 14:21
Have you seen cases where a document is missing? and approve it?
August 23, 2018 at 15:10
It depends on the document.
August 23, 2018 at 02:02
After Arival USA, how many days after can i sponsor my father?
August 23, 2018 at 04:02
Sponsor for what? A Green Card? If yes – then that is at least 5 years.
August 23, 2018 at 06:37
Hello, Simon I trust you are doing well. I have some question to do ask for you. Anyway, my wife won a lottery for the year 2018. We have gone for our medical assessment with IOM Health Centre. We got our results today but unfortunately, my results on chest x-rays didn’t came out clear so I have to do another test which will last for 2 months that was the Doctors advice. She also said that since my spouse was the principal applicant she can just go ahead and attend her interview since her medical reports will be sent to the Embassy. What will happen if my wife is granted a visa and also my results came out after that two months and also cleared by the medical team. I need your advise here.
August 23, 2018 at 14:03
You won’t have time to get a clear medical before the DV year ends on September 30.
So – you can either forget the whole thing, or your wife can proceed with the interview, and assuming she is approved she would get her visa. She would then have to emigrate to the USA, settle and find work, and once she has done that she could start sponsorship for you. That sponsorship would take around 2 years. During that time you would not be able to enter the USA.
August 25, 2018 at 06:19
Oh sorry to hear that, but were you coughing before the medicals exams period?
August 23, 2018 at 07:25
hello brit! i am from Nepal. I had interview on August 06 , and gone good. the thing is i am still not getting my passport back! i emailed embassy earlier about this case and they replied “case is in AP” but now they replied “Your case is pending a visa number”! . how can i take this reply as? do you have any thoughts on this message??
August 23, 2018 at 10:52
This is strange like a mojority of the happenings in this dv.but makes sense if you rescheduled your interview
August 23, 2018 at 13:59
It sounds like Nepal might be close to the 7% limit, so they are being careful not to exceed the limit. You will have to wait.
August 23, 2018 at 17:22
britt could we leave for america after 10 days from the interview (europe)
August 23, 2018 at 17:24
If you have your visas back, yes – but you should not book your flight without having the passports back.
August 23, 2018 at 18:56
britt what should i do to return in US after 11 months and if need be, what is the time to request a permit?
August 23, 2018 at 18:59
Read the FAQ about absences.
August 23, 2018 at 20:59
Hi Britt,
How are you ? My case number is AS2019 23XX
1. When or any time possibility do you think I might receive the 2nd letter?
2. How old the police certificates can be?
3. I am from Nepal and currently living overseas for 2 years. Is it easy or hard for visa ?
Thank you for support.
August 23, 2018 at 21:16
1. https://britsimonsays.com/dv2019-basic-questions/
2. They should be recent. More detail in the FAQ
3. I don’t know anything about your case.
August 24, 2018 at 00:32
1. I mean is there a chance I get the second letter?
2. Bank balance required to be shown for interview?
August 24, 2018 at 02:35
Read the link, and the FAQ.
August 25, 2018 at 07:35
Hi Britt
I could not well understand the link. Do you think I might get the second letter? sorry to bother you. I want to prepare myself so could you please tell me when I may have the interview?
August 25, 2018 at 16:22
The information in the link is clear if you bother to read it.
August 24, 2018 at 00:12
Hi Brit,
My family (wife, son and me) got the green card with the dv2018, I prefer travel before than my family (2 or 3 months before), to get a job and make things easier when my family travels. Can I travel before than my family to USA, or we must travel together?
August 24, 2018 at 02:33
If you were the principal selectee, no problem.
August 24, 2018 at 00:20
Hello Brit thank you for all! i’ve Just received my GC and I noticed that my given name has been shortened is that normal or is that a mistake ?
August 24, 2018 at 02:33
I don’t know. Contact USCIS if you are concerned.
August 24, 2018 at 11:50
Hi britsimon,
I want to question that the ambessy did not give immigrant visa dv 2018 and said your documents are not sufficient to overcome the public charge at this moment. Is ambessy said to change sponsor or adding additional sponsor or submit only extra document .what i do sir please clear me.
August 24, 2018 at 14:11
I can’t answer a question that is not clear. Has this happened? When?
What did the CO say?
August 24, 2018 at 11:51
Hello,
Brit Simon I have question about late DV visa clearance from AP and Issue. I wonder what is last time/day cleared AP EU region visas was already issued? The CO informed me in July that my AP is finished. I submitted my docs 31 of July but still no answer. Probably there is people who wait with cleared AP from June or even May?
August 24, 2018 at 14:12
I can’t give you a clear answer – all you can do is wait.
August 24, 2018 at 12:03
Hi britsimon,
I want to question you that the US Ambessy in Nepal said your document are not sufficient to overcome the public charge at this moment for my sister. My sister is dv winner of 2018 but still not getting visa. What does it mean is Ambessy smean to change sponsor or submit extra document like wirk experience. What i say to her clearify me please sir .
August 24, 2018 at 14:14
OK – that is slightly more clear.
Your sister needs an I-134.
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
August 24, 2018 at 12:15
Dear Mr Simon,
I am a winner of DV2019, i have gotten a child out of marriage since 2010 and I have the custody of the child and I do not know where his dad is since long time, during the registration I entered the lottery with my husband and that child but before the result my husband passed away just after the registration.
Now I regot married with a soldier. Now my question are :
1 If my husband is a soldier that won’t affect the case for visa ?
2 he has also a child out of marriage like me, if I includ his child in my case that won’t disqualify the case at the time of interview ?
I red the instructions and it is said that if the child was not includ in the original entry it is ground of disqualification. Please clarify it for me.
Kindly
August 24, 2018 at 14:20
1. It won’t affect you, BUT he might need to show paperwork from the Army to show he can leave the army to emigrate.
2. That’s OK, your new step child should be on all your DS260s, but is a derivative you did not have at the time of registration.
You will be asked for your first husbands death certificate.
August 25, 2018 at 00:30
Thanks for your reply,
1 So if I had understood I will includ my step child in my ds 260?
2 Now by filling y husband forms will I includ my child also in his forms?
Kindly
August 25, 2018 at 02:56
1 & 2. Yes
August 24, 2018 at 14:27

On the 17th I checked and saw that my visa has been issued but I have not heard anything from the embassy as to whether I should come for my passport or not. Please can you advise me what to do?

August 24, 2018 at 15:33
Hi Brit,
I filled my ds260 with a father’s name different from that found on my documents, so confused will that really affect me??
August 24, 2018 at 16:09
No.
August 24, 2018 at 15:46
Hello britsimon!
Thanks for your previous replies…I got visa with your help..thanks a lot…
One last query: is it compulsory that I should go to the place where my sponsor is residing? Will there be any problems if I want to go to any other place? Actually, I want to go to my sister’s place, who isn’t my sponsor.
Thanks in advance, again!
August 24, 2018 at 16:03
Similar questions have been asked a million times! As Simon always says “You can go anywhere you want”.
Have a nice journey.
August 24, 2018 at 16:09
Exactly.
August 24, 2018 at 16:57
Hello do DV winner need Affidavit of support?
August 24, 2018 at 17:03
Did you read the FAQ?
August 24, 2018 at 19:13
Hello BritSimon. According to what i read i might have enough money and than no need of Affidavit but.. is a bank loan for a house considered a debt or it doesn’t matter? Do you suggest Affidavit in this case? Thank you.
August 24, 2018 at 21:03
Debt is not considered. An I-134 is always safest.
August 24, 2018 at 21:14
Thank you
August 24, 2018 at 21:42
Dear Brit, I got a medical examination today, and I am a bit worry. I have a small heart problem (Aortic stenosis). The doctor knows about it. Can this be a cause to reject my case, because of this hearth problems?

August 25, 2018 at 01:50
dear simon , i had my(2018AS) interview 16 th of august at USA embassy colombo and was given a yellow paper that says my my visa is tentatively approved and was asked to come back in a week time , but now its over a week they only update my case again on 22 th of august case status still stays ready , i can see colombo embassy has already issued visa for the case numbers that is far behind me ,and even they had given early interview days , i did submit my ds260 on may 2017 and i never unlock it after that , is there any reason for early interview for some numbers far behind mine ? and do i have to contact the embassy to inquire about my case or should i wait ? thx
August 25, 2018 at 02:57
You should wait for a week or two, then contact the embassy.
August 28, 2018 at 06:28
Hi Malik, Im also from Sri Lanka and had my interview on 7th Aug. My status was last updated on 22nd as yours and still remain the dame. Kindly let me know what about yours? Thanks
August 25, 2018 at 11:25
Dear Simon;
Here is a situation I want you to share with me/us your expertise/experience on it.
Immigrant Visa issued in November 2017
Expiration: May 2018
The guy went to US to activate it in March 2018 and told me that he had a lot of troubles with immigration officers telling him that he should have come before march 2018.
1.Did you hear/know any smilar issue before?
2. Is it wise to activate your visa one month before the expiration date?
3. Based on your expertise on dv and on immigration issues; when is the best time to activate your 6 months visa validity?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards,
Umwimukira
August 25, 2018 at 16:26
It’s hard for me to address some story about a guy who may or may not be telling the truth.
The visa has an expiry date. You can enter up until that date.
August 25, 2018 at 16:30
Well noted Mr Simon. I have already read the post you made about it. You are completely right. Some issues are typically 100% personal and some people tend to generalize them. I will then stick on my plan of moving one month before the expiration of my visa.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
August 25, 2018 at 12:53
Dear Brit,
My Visa has been issued today at US Embassy-Nairobi.
Will give interview experience later.
Thanks for your valuable information on DV.
August 25, 2018 at 15:04
hi britsimon,
finally we are going to activate our green card on monday. Can you please clarify the follwings for me:
1. do we need to bring any documents?
2. do we need to bring only the envelop the usa embassy gave us?
3.what process are we going to go though at the port of entry? and the process is for how many hours?
Thank you for your help.
August 25, 2018 at 15:35
Dear Serge;
Please do not forget to share with us your experience on your activation trip. It looks like there are a lot of things we have to know. Your experience on this will help a lot of us out there who are preparing our first entry too.
Regards,
Umwimukira
August 25, 2018 at 16:30
There are not a lot of things to do!
August 25, 2018 at 16:30
Take the envelope you were given. It doesn’t take long, but if connecting, allow 3 or 4 hours between those flights.

Hi Simon, I was born in Zimbabwe but I’m currently a South African Citizen holding a South African passport. I used Zimbabwe as my country of birth for the DV entry and I have my Zimbabwe birth certificate. Will I be asked at the DV interview to show proof of how I became a South African Citizen?

Probably not.

Hi Brit Simon!
I have a question regarding qualification requirement. I know that it is required either to have a high school education or 2 years of work experience that requires 2 years of trainings. When I submitted DS260 form, I filled both education and work experience sections with all the actual information; I clicked YES to the question “does this job require 2 years of training/ experience” as I am an Accountant (Job zone 4, SVP range 7.0<8.0). I also filled my university and high school details as they are. But I want to qualify by my education as it is easy to prove (high school diploma). There was no question in the form asking to select my qualification option; so, that will be in interview, right? Or maybe I didnt fill the DS260 correctly? In that case along with my high school diploma, do I have to bring my employment contract, labor workbook, or even certificates for trainings?
Sorry, I know you provided fine articles on that, buy I’m still messy:/
Regards,
Maleyka

You are overthinking all that. Take your education documents. Relax.

Hi Mr. Brit,
I would like your help please. I passed the visa interview at USA embassy and I will travel to USA in mid-September for 2-3 days to activate my visa(and become LPR) and return later back to USA in 7 months, because of heavy workload and because I need time to leave my job.
1. when completing the DS260 form, I used my friend’s Texas address. If I travel to New York to activate the visa(because the ticket is cheaper), is it okay? Or is it better to travel to Texas(which is the state I used for the USA address in DS260)?
2. if I travel to USA for only 2-3 days to activate the visa and stay in hotel for one night, is it okay? Or I must better stay for more days(eg. 5-6 days) to show that I want to stay in the USA and I don’t want the visa for tourist reasons?
3. do I need other documents for my USA airport checking, like birth certificate, etc, or just the passport and the envelope they gave me in visa interview?
4. the envelope that they gave me in visa interview, must I put it in the luggage or carry it with me in the airplane? If they ask me in airport screening(before leaving from my country what it has inside) what I must tell them?
Thank you Mr. Brit.

1. Doesn’t matter.
2. Doesn’t matter (addressed in the FAQ).
3. Just the envelope.
4. Carry on.

Employers do not need to see your GC but they may want your SSN which arrives in 2 or 3 weeks.

Hi Simon,
Sorry, as Liss´s questions were quite easy to respond, I replied to her in Spanish (it is not my intention to take over your valuable assistance). Thanks a lot for your hard work and for helping us all!
August 30, 2018 at 05:11
I understood the questions (I speak Spanish), but when I refer people to read certain links it is to help them in the best way. I try to teach people to fish, you gave Liss a fish.

Hi Brits,
I have a problem with a third party who applied on my behalf without me knowing but later sent me an email that i have won. I was able to generate my confirmation code after i got the email he used for the initial entry and filled the DS-260 form and submitted myself. Now the person is threatening to reopen my case and either change some information like email address so that he can have control of my process or put wrong information to get me disqualified entirely. If i send KCCS a message regarding this and request that they do not reopen my case to any email apart from my email, will that work? My case number is 2019AF14XXX
August 26, 2018 at 01:13
THey will lock it but for everyone, including you.
I would warn you. You didn’t enter. You don’t know what details were used for your entry including your photo. Your case is risky because of this – so you might be wasting your money & time.
August 26, 2018 at 01:20
The person filled all the info before I got access to changing his email on the DS-260 form and submitted it myself. Also there was a mistake in the place of birth in the lottery entry and KCCS told me to put in the correct information in the DS-260. But am currently in China and I want to do my interview and all processes here. Will the mistake in place of birth affect my chances here?
August 26, 2018 at 04:42
As I said – there is some risk.
August 26, 2018 at 02:59
Hi Brit, In the DS-260 form at the level of education I only put the university in which I graduated and did not put the secondary level institution would have to correct that data?
August 26, 2018 at 04:41
Unlock your form (read the FAQ).
