Hi Brit,
My case is very strange. I’m a DV lottery winner and my case number is 2019AF1xx .I submitted my DS260 on July 2018. but I sent an email to Kentucky to unlock my DS260 to correct some mistakes & I have received an email telling me to make the necessary changes and resubmit it again.when I tried to login on the DS260,the site was under mentainance which lasted for few weeks. When they fixed the site ,I tried to login on the DS260 but I couldn’t. I sent another email to Kentucky asking them to help me,but they sent me a reply telling me that they can’t unlock my DS260 and any changes can be made during the interview in my country. Then I got the 2nd letter which specified the date of the interview on Oct 31,2018 .When I went to make the interview they told me that my DS260 is incomplete and I have to resubmit it but the site doesn’t respond.
I sent an email to Kentucky to solve the problem and unlock the DS to complete it but they sent an email telling me that my case has been forward to the embassy in my country and it has been schudled .but the embassy says that my DS260 is incomplete but I can’t login to complete it.
Please tell me how can I solve this problem. Kentucky says something and the embassy says something else. I’m puzzled.
November 22, 2018 at 00:36
Discuss it with the embassy. Make it clear they need to detail what additional info they need in the DS260.
November 24, 2018 at 13:06
Please tell me have you got the solution.
I have the same problem.
When I login it says unavailable case number.
That is after the maintainance.

Dear sir,
My second question is as follows:
1.it was already 1 months and 15 days that the case was put in AP(no any extra document demanded; passport returned).I mean ,in country like Nepal, does it mean almost rejection?I mean they take so much time for clearing AP in NEpal?
Now new question:
2.do they reject visa if second email was sent to them or slow down the process?(in previous email they told to wait 60 days).
November 22, 2018 at 00:37
1. It means you wait. I can’t predict the outcome.
2. Asking respectfully for a status update does not cause problems.
November 22, 2018 at 08:48
Hello Brit.
I am a DV 2019 winner. But the picture that I used in my first entry was in kinda grey background. Can it be reason of visa refusal?
November 22, 2018 at 15:32
Probably not.
November 22, 2018 at 18:38
So, it’s not a big problem right? Thank you for your answer)

November 22, 2018 at 17:45
Greetings Brit , I am raising some question which is hesitating me since I would like to be very precise in all papers I will submit and get prepared well for the interview with case Num AF19xxx , I had submitted the Ds260 to all my family members last July , my wife she is the main Applicant, after that I started the journey to extract all official documents. In DS 260 I wrote everything in fact and truthly so in my wife ( Main Applicant ) parent address section I wrote where they are leaving today on some certain city in our home country, but when I went now to extract her birth certificate you need only to quote for her ID number to the Civil Registration Authoritiy and they will only print out and attest it , I found in her parent address they quoted Address different city than what I wrote in DS 260 since in what is registered officially with then is old address but the civil authority they will not amend to current address just when she born they register the address thst time ,So this discrepancy need me to worry or move in any action of unlocking DS260 ????
I hope you got my point and Sorry to be in detail just as said would like to be precise. BR
November 22, 2018 at 19:38

November 22, 2018 at 20:39
Hi Brit,
Does your police clearance certificate have to be valid (un-expired) at the time of your interview only, or does it still have to be valid when you enter the USA?
South African PCC’s are valid for 6 months. I got mine 3 months ago. Just trying to figure out how much time I will have to enter the US after the interview.
As always, thanks for all the help!
November 23, 2018 at 05:38
Just for the interview.

November 23, 2018 at 01:44
Dear Brit,
We received the email from KCC asking for our documents to be sent electronically. We just realized my police records are now about to expire. We will get a new one from me for our interview for sure which is expected to be in January or February. However, will cause a problem if what I send electronically to the KCC is my current policy record (about to expire)? but I bring the new police record to my interview?
Or it is wise to wait until I get my new one and them send that new one electronically to the KCC?
They sent us the email 10 days ago and I was outside the country, now with this new delay. We are afraid it is taking so long for us to send this documents and get our appointment.
Thank you so much!
November 23, 2018 at 05:42
Send what you have now.
November 23, 2018 at 01:47
Hi Brit
i am a DV2019 winner from one of the travel baned countries. My family(parents) are living in the USA. i understood that the ban is 90 days unless extended?!questions are:
1- Does bonafide help so i can proceed and fill the DS260?
2-If NO should i fill and send the DS260 hopping the ban may lifted before September 2019.
3-Can I apply for student visa and then make adjustment of status later?
4-Am i correct to say i am wasting my time and money for something of zero percent potential of success.
thanks for replying
November 23, 2018 at 05:52
1. No
2. Your choice.
3. No
4. Pretty much, yes.
November 23, 2018 at 07:58
Hi brits how r u, my wife completed formal education to grade 10, and completed three years of technical & vocational training in electricity & machine drive, after she finishes technical & vocational training, she joined a college & completed bachelor degree in accounting . however ,USA government DV winners should have to complete grade 9-12. My question is
1. Does it have any problem in her case?
November 23, 2018 at 20:37
Possibly. I really don’t have a way to answer with certainty – only the CO can decide.
November 23, 2018 at 08:15

November 23, 2018 at 07:38
Hi brit
My wife and i sit the interview together
we were placed on Ap
Lastly she along received VISA
but what was most confusing is that on her way to the United State, The immigration at Detroit Airport took some of our documents from her and ask her to go
Those documents include( our marry certificate, her birth certificate and our wedding photos)
Please help me out.
Im worry, i dont know why they did that.
November 23, 2018 at 20:36
I don’t know why they did that either. Whatever they needed should have been in the sealed envelope. If they took more than that, you can discuss with USCIS.
November 23, 2018 at 10:07

Read the FAQ about unlocking.
November 24, 2018 at 16:31
The spelling error is on the orginal entry and I filled DS 260 as it is on my passport. Should I still have to unlock it or just send kcc email about the error on orginal entry? Thanks
November 24, 2018 at 17:19
OK – then no need to correct the DS260. You should be OK.
November 24, 2018 at 03:41

November 24, 2018 at 13:05
Hi Simon
Apologies for long message … difficult to get my point across by being short
While I am awaiting my 2nl I have started actively looking at possible employment opportunities.
I expect my 2nl around April ’19.
One that is a strong possibility is being given a concessionaire on a major cruise liner company.
I possibly have an interview with them lined up in January 2019.
It is an American owned cruise line company operating out of Miami and Orlando in the Caribbean.
I would be essentially an independent vendor that provides a service on board several cruise ships.
This would mean that I would spend large parts of my time – up to 3-4 months – on board several ships at any given time.
I would be based in Miami and rent an apartment to stay in.
My concern – if I am successful in securing the LPR – is around the strict requirement that one is not really allowed too much time out of the USA in the first 12 months.
While I would be working as a service provider , essentially in the USA , providing a service for a US company, I would nevertheless be traveling around the Caribbean – which requires going through customs and border control everytime I would dock into Miami/Orlando etc … and then embark on another cruise on another ship.
This would be on a weekly basis.
Would I be able to get around any negative inferences from immigration by speaking to them to explain my situation ?
or am I over thinking it ?
Thanks
November 24, 2018 at 15:04
You are overthinking something that may never happen, and won’t happen until you have your GC already!
November 24, 2018 at 13:58
Hi Brit
My case number is 2019AF11***. I sent the required documents to KCC on November 5th 2018. I haven’t yet received any email from their side stating whether they received my documwnts or not or is their no need for that.
Thank you.
November 24, 2018 at 15:05
There is no need.
November 24, 2018 at 14:21

November 24, 2018 at 16:01
good evening brit. I would like to know in the form at the level of studies, one begins to fill from the highest level (university) to the lowest level (primary).
November 24, 2018 at 16:15
Most recent first, back to secondary.
November 24, 2018 at 18:14
Dear Brit
Good Evening and Warm greetings from Nepal.
I would like to request you for your kind clarification on following queries.
1. My case no. is AS47xx (Nepal) and already submitted required e-documents requested by KCC. I am waiting for the 2NL. Expected on Feb or March?
2. My Sister in law (Husband’s sister) is going to send me I-134. She is US Citizen living with 2 kids and husband.
a. I-134 sponsor’s family = 4 (husband, wife and 2 kids)
b. Their total yearly income (including husband + wife) = about $55,000
c. I am DV2019 winner including 4 derivatives (husband + 3kids). i.e. total 5 members
d. Therefore, DV winners + I134 sponsors (5+4) =9 members
e. According to 2018 Federal Poverty Level Guideline Tables family size of 9 needs $46,700, Therefore, are they eligible to sponsor us?
f. Their (husband + wife) income is $55000. So, can they jointly sponsor us on single I134 document signing by both or they need to sign individually?
g. Do they need to send I134 document for each of us (5 documents) or Single I134 will work?
3. I do have my saving about $35000 in my account (husband + wife). Is it good to show both I134 and bank balance in my interview?
4. Is my saving balance and I134 safe from public charge?
Waiting for your kind response. Thank you in advance.
Kind Regards
SNO
November 25, 2018 at 05:08
1. Wait and see.
2. e. Is 55 more than 46?
2. f. One form
2. g. One form
3. Yes
4. That is up to the CO – but I think so.
November 24, 2018 at 21:41
Hi Brit… 1.When will the 2NL for January interviews be updated in this site?
2. When can we begin to expect the 2NL for January because the month is ending fastly? I hope the delay will not affect the medical date.
November 25, 2018 at 05:10
1 & 2.
PATIENCE!
November 25, 2018 at 00:25
Hey Simon
I have a quick question, so I meet the requirement in terms of my country of birth and I have my education certificate. However, I have been reading around a few people mentioned they had to provide proof of finance or Sponsor. I have re-read the checklist and it doesn’t mention that I have to bring any of these papers. And besides I don’t have 10K saving or investment in my bank account. Will that be a problem? Bear in mind I’m 24 and I applied as a single person and I know no one is USA. Except maybe my friend has relatives there but I have never met them.
Many thanks for the help,
K

November 25, 2018 at 13:32
Hi Simon,
1) what are the chances for AS11xxx nepal ?
2) one of my friend got selected too her number is AS12xxx from another country she consultant a lawyer he said because of traval ban she has a better chance than me to have interview is this true?
3) he also said interviews also will be quick this time.
November 25, 2018 at 15:36
1. It would surprise me if there even is such a number for a Nepal charged case. Nepalese cases are normally concentrated below about 7000 or 8000.
2. That is correct. The lawyer must be a reader of my blog!
3. Well, that could mean anything…
November 25, 2018 at 18:16
Thank you so much for your response Mr.Simon.
Please please answer me this as well mr.simon If there is a travel ban why they choose from those countries?
November 26, 2018 at 04:24
Because the travel ban might end or people from those countries might have the ability to process their cases, for example with dual citizenship.
November 25, 2018 at 17:09
Hello Sir.
Under the current circumstances which KCC requires one to submit Police report and other documents before an appointment is schedule for visa interview at my local embassy. What then will be the ideal time to get medicals and police report done bearing in mind they are valid for 6 months?

November 26, 2018 at 04:32

November 25, 2018 at 19:19
Dear sir
U mentioned somewhere that the embassy does not control the time of Ap.
1.do u mean its head office does?
2.if ap is cleared in following months(rather than same month of interview),does it take time for visa re_ allocation?
November 26, 2018 at 04:33
1. No, it means it varies by case.
2. Yes
November 25, 2018 at 21:09
hi mr Brit Simon
I am Cameroonian and I have a cs = 2019AF9xxx.
I have 3 questions please
-the affidavit of support is obligatory?
-What are the consequences that it may have if I change the address of the person who will receive me in the USA on the day of my interview?
-Is it possible to go to an address other than that given to the embassy on the day of his interview,?
and if so, how do you do to recover his GC?
thank you in advance
November 26, 2018 at 04:34
1. It varies by case and embassy. To reduce risk, you prepare an I-134.
2. Nothing.
3. Yes, but the GC will be sent to the address on the DS260.
November 26, 2018 at 05:41
Hi Sir:
Sorry for taking ur time on my question.
I have received acceptance text on Tuesday (11/20) after sending the AOS package two week ago. The text has three receipt numbers for I-485, EAD, and AP. But, my wife(H1B) adjusted the status with me(F1) does not receive the acceptance text and check does not cash as well.
Whether we share the same receipt numbers? Or, she will receive her numbers next week due to Thanksgiving holiday?
November 26, 2018 at 20:37
I don’t know.
November 26, 2018 at 10:30
Hi Simon ,
i have my interview very soon and i would like to ask you some questions:
1- i have mentioned in my ds260 an address to send the GC(i am sponsoring my self ) ,but i am planning to go to other city. would that be a problem.
2-for my activation trip should i mention which hotel i am planning to stay in , if co asked me about my plane
3- for housing in us for long term , my plane is to search for apartments in the internet and social media platforms(Facebook pages) . would that be enough if the co asked me , would you recommend anything else(i am planning to move to Chicago)
Regards
November 26, 2018 at 20:40
1. No problem.
2. You cannot receive the GC at a hotel. So – stay where you like, but your GC needs to be received at an address you can trust.
3. Your plan is OK.
November 26, 2018 at 11:33

November 26, 2018 at 16:39
Hi Brit,
Thanks for your invaluable service. I’m a Sri-Lankan national who currently doing my PGDip in Canada. My boyfriend recently moved to California,US through DV Lottery. We are planning to get married by next year. We also worried about the waiting time for the process. My questions are,
1. I already have US B1/B2 Visa for US. But once I marry him will I be able to visit him, during the process? Or do they cancel my visa?
2. After the marriage do I need to change my passport replacing my maiden name for the process? If ‘Yes’ will this affect my B1/B2 Visa which I’m previously having?
November 26, 2018 at 20:46
I only answer DV lottery questions.

Hello Brit,
I’d like to inquire about the number of participations in the lottery and can I have a problem if I couldn’t remember how many times I participated in the lottery ?

I don’t think that would normally be a problem.

Hello Brit,
When is the best time to get the police report done bearing in mind they are valid for 6 months. The new procedure requires a submission of documents to KCC. Thanks

Hey
My case number is AF2019XXX12900
1.So far i have not gotten the appointment letter…what could be the problem?(We delayed sending back -sent back on August)
2.We did civil marriage,Kentucky asked us to send them our certificate-we sent- immediately we realized that there was an error in spelling of my name(Principal),we went back to marriage office and rectified,we sent again the correct marriage certificate….Could this bring an issue during the interview?in Nairobi.

1. There is no problem. Be patient.

Hi Brit, I have one question to ask you for advise. I am the winner of DV2019( my case number is AS1xxxx). I have already submitted the DS-260 form since September but so far it is so quite from KCC. As I saw in conversation here, I have seen some people from ASIA countries just submit the form in October but they got the reply from KCC faster than me.
Do you know why?
Best and have a nice day

Is your case number in the 1000 range or 10000 range. If the latter you are not yet current.

Hi simon i’m Thang, i’m from VietNam, i have a honest mistake, 6 months ago i filled ds160, due to understanding wrong meaning of question “have you attend educational institution or secondary level than elementary school” i clicked “ No”. But i mentioned interviewer my university and provided paper like transcript during interview. If i had intensions of hiding any information, i wouldn’t have mentioned it during interview. At once, i have immigrant petition, i’m filling ds 260, so i dont know if the problem can affect my immigrant petition or not? What can i do next??

I don’t know if it will affect the immigrant visa application. Just be honest, and hopefully they will accept it was a simple mistake.
