Hi Brit big brother i am glad to know such kind of dedicated person for people; Brit i wanna ask you one question; i won Dv 2019 from Africa my 8th grade card it shows i am 14 years old but with the calculation what it should have to be is 13 because i just fulfilled on my Dv application and on DS260 i was born in 1990 and that is the truth. when we calculate with in my Ministry card calculation i will gonna become 29 and but with in my ds260 i am 28 so my point is that one affect to got my Visa? if i produce my birth certificate which shows i am 28 is that not enough? what i mean is there educational document age calculation trend in embassy? What is your advice!? Tank you for your time.
November 16, 2018 at 19:11
Your date of birth is established by your birth cert and passport, not educational documents. So, there should be no problem as long as they are not concerned about fraudulent documents.
November 16, 2018 at 21:02
” If your police certificate is unavailable per the country-specific guidelines above, you do not need to submit one. If you cannot obtain a police certificate for another reason, please submit a written explanation when you submit your other documents “.please can you give me an examplar for this written explanation.
November 16, 2018 at 22:15
No. If you have a reason, explain it.

Hi Brit,
I have very strange question from you. I am the winner of 2019 and when I have submitted my DV lottery, I have put the Email address which I used not so often, (Who knew I am going to win).
Now for DS-260 application shall I use the same Email address or I can put another Email address as a addition which I use on daily bases?
If my old Email address do (mail failure delivery), Would I be in mess?
Many thanks
November 17, 2018 at 05:55
No mess. No problem.

Please my dv 2019 interview was schedule for 5th October, 2019. but I was not interviewed because I was not able to print the confirmation of my complete ds 260 form and I cant open it too from the ceac.state.gov site too. Even though I have paid the fee .
November 19, 2018 at 22:33
You only pay the fee at the interview. Contact the embassy and see when you will be rescheduled. Contact KCC to access your DS260.

I completed Technical School (Intermediate Electrical) and then to the Tertiary level, had certificate in Electrical Engineering Technician.
I later had university entrance examination, passed and gained admission for Diploma in Education. I am in the second year.
Please, can my university admission letter, student ID card and my admission fees as my proof, meet the requirement if i am selected or if i am select and head for interview?
November 17, 2018 at 15:28
No. You would need to prove the education level completed prior to university. The questionmark is whether they accept your secondary education as non vocational.

Have you had your interview?
November 17, 2018 at 14:09
Hi Brit
I sent an application for DS-260
But I have two mistakes
The first error about the previous job, I did not type the name of the company in (Employer name…… ) and I wrote
The employee name who was i working with
The second mistake…. I did not answered this question ” Is your mother’s address the same as your father’s?”
What should I do?
Do I request a re-opening of the application?
November 17, 2018 at 15:30
No need to unlock with those two issues.
November 17, 2018 at 14:38
Hi sir, What is the reason why in Venezuela they are not asking to demonstrate economic support?
November 17, 2018 at 15:31
I am not sure that is a correct statement. They judge cases individually, so if they have any concerns about the ability of the person to support themselves, they are able to ask for proof of finances.

November 17, 2018 at 17:12
You weren’t at the interviews. You don’t know what questions are asked or the particulars of the cases. People Don’t always understand the importance of the questions.

Hi Brits,
I have informed KCC about a name mistake that I made in my original entry. In DV entry I have mentioned my FULL name instead of FIRST name and also mentioned my last name in its section as well. This means my last name is appearing twice() when KCC addresses me in 1NL. I have already filled DS-260 with correct First and Last names.
example: real name : Smith, John
mistaken: Smith, John Smith
I have wrote them an email and this is their reply. Can you please tell me if they mean I should unlock my DV-260 and use the name that I am addressed in 1NL in other names used? Thank you in advance.
“”The required forms should be completed using the name that appears on your passport and/or other legal documentation. Any other names you have previously been identified by, including maiden names should be listed on the DS 260 in the “Other Names Used” field.
The applicant should carry this information with them to their interview appointment.
Your forms have been received and are currently processing. Allow several weeks for processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Once the Kentucky Consular Center has finished processing your DS-260, you will receive an email from the Kentucky Consular Center giving you instructions to complete in order for your case to continue processing.”””
November 18, 2018 at 15:10
No need to unlock.

HI Simon
In regards to the police certificate – how recent must it be ?
or what is the length of validity expected for it ?
I am expecting an interview based on past visa bulletins at around April or May.
So I can get the certificates from now ?
I am asking this because I would like to avoid any unnecessary delays that can occur as I am required to get from more than one country.
November 18, 2018 at 15:21
Getting them now is too early. Get them around January or February.
November 18, 2018 at 14:15
hi mr. britsimon,
i hope u r fine.Sir my question is that when i was 5 months old, i visited USA with my parents on B2 visa through my mother s passport as i was added onto her passport.it happened in 1979.furthermore i once applied to USA visit visa along with my mother few years back but refused but we mentioned in their record our previous US travel history.now the issue is that my birth date doesnt match on my mother s passport with my official documents in hand because in our country people always records births with a minimum a year gap as it helps in finding government jobs in the future due to age limit issues.my problem is now that what to do about this issue.if i mention my US visit on DS-260 than how to explain the visit before my official birth record ? my own judgement is not helping me. can you pls advise what to do ?
best regards
November 18, 2018 at 15:23
I don’t know. Problems like this are why I always tell people to tell the truth.
November 18, 2018 at 15:10
Dear Mr Simon,
I’m a new greencard holder from Algeria, and I’d like to bring my parents who are old to live with me, how can i do it??, since the visa tourism not allow them to stay more than 6 months, and they never been in the US. Thank you so much.im worrying.
November 18, 2018 at 15:24
You can’t. Once you are a citizen, you can sponsor them.
November 18, 2018 at 15:36
Hi Brit, i was in USA J-1 visa holder for three months(exchange student program), then i made an extension to F-1 before my visa expired, i got denial letter from immigration after 1 year and now i am in my home country, i left USA within 33days regarding the letter and i did not get any deportation stamp, my question is if either me or my girlfriend win the greencard from lottery it will be a problem for me or not? i know you are not lawyer but maybe one of your friends faced that kind of situation
thanks
November 18, 2018 at 15:39
I don’t think it would be a problem.
November 18, 2018 at 18:53
Hey Simon. I had my interview and I had a flight booked soon after so I couldn’t give my passport. They said I could mail it to them later. I had done so but it was 20 days later and in a different month. I was a really early number and had things planned (weddings etc.) in other countries. Have you ever heard of someone sending their passport later and being rejected once they have sent their passport? Cheers
November 18, 2018 at 22:45
Sending a passport later causes delays, but doesn’t increase the chance of denial. However, the visa is not guaranteed until it is in your hands.
November 18, 2018 at 21:22
Hi Brit ,
in the original entry i wrote my name and in the ds 260 i enter it the same
but my name in the passport consists of (1- my name and 2- my father name – 3 -my grandfather name – 4 – my sure name )
now i entered just my father name as a middle name
should i enter my grandfather name in the middle name also , knowing that i already fill the ds-260
what should i do ?
November 18, 2018 at 22:50
Your DS260 should have the full legal name as shown in your passport.
November 19, 2018 at 21:54
my name in passport : ALI ABDEL RAUOF MOHAMMAD ALFUKAHA ,
My name in ds-260 :ALI ABDEL RAUOF ALFUKAHA
do you suggest to open the ds 260 to complete the name ??
November 19, 2018 at 22:33
Your name in the DS260 should match the passport.
November 19, 2018 at 01:03
Good morning Brit. I need help with some clarification on ds-260 form I already submitted please.
For a child above 21 years, I answered ‘No’ to the question ‘Is this child immigrating with you to the US’?, since the child has aged out of the DV category. But I answered ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Is this child following to join at a later date’?. I thought that ‘Yes’ to this second question is still OK as I can eventually petition for the child under the family immigration category. But I just read somewhere that ‘Children must be below 21 years to qualify for ‘follow to join’ benefits.’ Does this mean I should normally answer ‘No’ to the question ‘Is this child following to join at a later date’? because I am particularly dealing with a DV application? I am confused.
November 19, 2018 at 01:43
You answered correctly.
November 19, 2018 at 07:13
Hi, my interview is scheduled next month in London. Last night I received an email stating I had not completed the registration process. The 2NL never mentioned any registration steps, just the date and time of interview. The email came from [email protected] I’m concerned that this is not a .gov email address and may be fraudulent. However, they knew my email and case number! Have you come across this?
November 19, 2018 at 16:20
Yes, many embassies do this. Follow the instructions.
November 19, 2018 at 10:19
Dear BritSimon,
One of my friend is 2019 EDV winner. His case no. was in first lot in Asian region(Nepal), After interview (firstly his visa was approved), his case was put in AP and passport was returned.
I have heard that sometime they take second interview to finalize AP. In which cases, they prefer for second interview?
November 19, 2018 at 16:26
2nd interviews are rare.
November 19, 2018 at 10:32
hi , brit i have a question ! if the police certificate expires and the person did not return to there home country since ,is it still valid to show at the interview
November 19, 2018 at 16:26
The CO can often accept that, yes.
November 19, 2018 at 13:04
Hi Brit, thanks so much for all your advises, my question for you is as follows, DV2019AF24XXX. While filling out DS-260 for the question that says “do you have documentation to establish that you received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. Law?” I answered Yes that was wrong. Is it worth to unlock the DS-260 to correct the above?
November 19, 2018 at 16:28
No
November 19, 2018 at 14:18
Greetings Brit, please am I obliged to an affidavit of support?.
Because from my country embassy site, d document sent to me does not have affidavit of support as a requirements for the interview.
Secondly, if my police clearance is 5days old prior my interview day, will DT be a problem?.
Lastly, I HV high school certificate. Went to d university but my transcript can’t be printed n if i want to follow up this issue, it will exceed my interview date(4th Dec). Though in my ds260 I wrote university no degree. Just asking if I’m save in terms of educational status.
Thank you.

Just a advice to all. If you are well off and earning good money in your country you will regret coming to usa. Iam telling from experience. Work is easy to get but hardwork. Minimum wage rate is high but plenty expenses. I wish someone told me this before
November 19, 2018 at 16:20
Iam here for two months now with my family and feel like crying everyday.
November 19, 2018 at 16:39
What a foolish attitude. You have been here TWO MONTHS. What did you expect?? Of course moving to a new country is hard. Of course it will be expensive to start off here. Of course you have to work hard.
Some people thrive here, some people come here because of poverty in their own country, some people come here for the weather. But whatever the reason, they are coming to a land of opportunity. What they do with that opportunity is up to them.

After sending the documents required by KCC, this was the response received.
Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center.
Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Interviews for the DV 2019 program will begin in October 2018 and conclude on September 30, 2019. Please refer to the visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check

Hi Simon,
Wish you are doing well!
In the ds260 we put the address in MA because it was our sponsor’s address but we never went there, we travelled for Illinois instead and we rented a home here. We didnt change the address at POE. My questions are:
1. Should we file out the form ” change of address” online at USCIS website putting MA as old one and IL as new one?
2. If yes, should all the members of the family including children must fill out a form of their one? So if 4 members of family should mean 4 forms filled out?
Thank you in advance,
Gazi
November 20, 2018 at 17:38
1. Yes.
2. Follow the process instructions.
November 20, 2018 at 08:27
Good morning Brit.
If a spouse who is a derivative (not principal dv winner) moves to work in a different country prior to interview schedule, must her submitted ds-260 be re-opened to include the new information? CN AF35xxx.
November 20, 2018 at 17:53
It’s not strictly necessary, but it won’t cause delay anyway if you correct it.
November 20, 2018 at 17:56
Thanks very much Brit!
November 20, 2018 at 14:39
Hello Sir,
If someone made an affidavit for someone or for a couple and they failed interview, does the sponsor able to provide also to another winner or winners in the same fiscal year I mean the same year?
November 20, 2018 at 18:04
Yes
November 20, 2018 at 15:09
Hi Brit , How r u doing now ? Well , i have some questions to ask you. I am a DV 2019 winner , I am the principal . I am legally married but currently separated, no longer live with my spouse for many years. I have listed him in my DV entry and he is my derivative. I submitted DS 260 for him because in the IV applicant information it shows “incomplete” for him. So I submitted DS 260 for him and it shows completed . But he is not immigrating to the USA with me. Since there is a new procedure to submit the documents for themselves and all derivatives …The question is :- 1 Do i have to submit all documents for him ? ( he is not immigrating to the USA) . 2. Should i email KCC or contact KCC to inform them about this matter in advance before i get 2NL from KCC. 3. Or should I wait until i get 2NL and inform KCC at that time . I need your advise and thank you very much in advance.
November 20, 2018 at 18:07
You should not have submitted the DS260 for him. Contact KCC now and explain the mistake.
November 22, 2018 at 07:42
Hi Brit , I already emailed KCC. They replied me as below:-
Thank you for your inquiry.
Your answers on the DS-260 application should be as accurate as possible in order to minimize the potential for confusion and delay in your case. Once submitted, a DS-260 cannot be deleted or removed. If there is an error in your DS-260 application form or if you need to make changes, the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) can unlock the form for you so that you can make any changes required. If you would like us to unlock one or more forms in your case, please reply to this address, including your case number, date of birth (MMDDYYYY) and the names of the applicants whose forms you would like us to unlock, and an explanation as to why you need the DS-260 unlocked.
Once unlocked, if you would like for KCC to process your application, you must resubmit it. A DS-260 will not continue processing unless it is re-submitted. Unlocking an application is the only way to make changes, or to prevent a form from being processed.
What should i continue to do ? I need your advice. Thank you so much in advance !
My questions are :-
Since a DS-260 can not be deleted or removed.
1.Can I ask KCC to unlock DS-260 of my spouse ( my derivative) and not re-submit his DS-260 because DS-260 will not continue processing if we don’t re-submit it. But it will show in the IV application information “incompleted” for him. Will that be a problem for me ( the Principal ) ?
Now my status and my spouse status in IV Application show completed .
2. I was worry IF KCC will not continue to process DS-260 only for my spouse ( my derivative) ?
OR they will not continue to process me ( The Principal ) too ?
3. OR I should make a change in his DS-260 Form that he is not immigrating to U.S. with me and resubmit his DS-260 again. But as i remember there is no obtion about that.
4. I should delete every answers in his DS-260 Form and do not re-submit it.
5. Doing nothing and leave it as it is. He ( my spouse) will not go to interview with me on the day of interview .
One more question , *IF we re-submit DS-260, Will we get a new confirmation number or get the old number ?
Which one is the best thing to do? Looking forward to hearing from you again,
Thank you so much once again.
November 22, 2018 at 15:28
5.
You keep the existing case number.
November 20, 2018 at 23:42
Hello Mr,
I am a winner of the DV but I had some worries. In 2015 I applied for visa type B2 in Luanda, I had before already Havana visa but I didn’t travel there, someone advised me to look for someone who will stamp my passport attesting IN and OUT in Havana that I did unfortunately , during the interview the CO asked me if I went in Cuba and where, I replied yes in Havana, he reasked which hotel I was and I said Brooklyn. He told me your visa is authentic but stamps are false you didn’t go so you can reapply after three months. I couldn’t do it unfortunately.
Now I won and I would like just by filling to be honest that I provide false answer about stamps. Do you think I have chance to be approve???

Hi Brit,
I have 2 question :
First :
My family name in my passport is [ALFUKAHA] and when I fill the information regarding my father , his family name[ALFUQAHA] in his passport is slightly different than me
So my question is ,
Is that will make any problem ?
Should I fill the information for my father according to his
passport ?
Second :
my father name in my passport has a special character
[comma ( ‘ ) ] but when I try to enter the name, it shows me that i cant use a special character
should I ignore the special character??
Thank you
November 21, 2018 at 00:04
Use the passport spelling.
Ignore the special character.

November 21, 2018 at 13:22
hi Mr. Brit.
hope everything is fine at your end.case number AS7xxx. Sir all my official documents r carrying my wrong date of birth as i came to know about it just recently from very old travel records of my mother.i started the procedure to rectify all my official documents and will be able to correct it soon through court orders.i also amended my DS-260 according to the real date of birth and will be hopefully able to explain about it all.my questions are:
1- is it fine to amend DS-260 on the basis of right info before court orders ?
2- i am not asked for further kcc documents as my number is little high so i
am thinking to correct documents first than only send them.is it fine ?
3- does all of this rectification of documents are risky ? as my dv entry DOB
was also based on my wrong official documents records. is this thing
explainable or it is risky ( with all evidences in hands ) ?
Please answer Sir as ur valuable opinion matters a lot to me.
Respect
November 21, 2018 at 16:29
I come from a country where official documents are accurate. I have no idea what the impact will be of your scenario.

Hello Dear Britsmon!!
1. Can my sponsor will send me my GC and SSN to my new US address after he received? because I don’t wanna go to my sponsor address on my first entry.

No, you won’t have a problem. They may ask you to contact a doctor after entry – but if needed, they will explain.

Hi Brit!
I was checking ceac site, me and my wife got status completed. I’ve listed my child from previous relationship under my dS-260 and on DS260 of my wife as a step child. Now I see that there is a 3rd dS-260 with option “start now” she’s in category accompany. We signed that she’s not immigrating with us.
Should I be worried?
We got appointment in two weeks
Thanks

Hi Brit
I’m 2019 DV winner
Two years ago I applied for traveling visa and they approved my visa for 10 years but I didn’t travel to USA.
Do you think this can cause any problem?
