Dear Simon,
We have already gotten Visa( 2019DV)
I have this issues, my host is not somehow interested to accomodate a family of 4 ( two adults one child and one infant) after he used to tell us ” no problem”
But a friend of mine living in another state that where we are palnning to go said to us that even if our host will be the one who is going to receive the SSN and green card, he will rent a house using his SSN not our hosts SSN for atleast for three months. So, my questions are:
1. Can a person other than my host rent a house for us in its own SSN? and can we directly move to that rented house even without the help of our host?, we are moving to portland, where our host is living and a friend will rent a house around my hosts home
2. Then after two days can my wife and the kids fly to Texas where they get more care with some other friends? that is can we change states without having our SSN which will take 15 to 21 days?
Thank you for your time really.
We are some how desperate and we didnt want to change host after we got the VISA
June 27, 2019 at 14:29
All of that is possible – between you and your hosts.
June 27, 2019 at 10:09
Dear Mr Simon,
Is it ok to use a copy( not the original) bank statement as a proof of funds, because my bank account is in another country, and I’m not sure if I can get the original statement in time of the interview.
June 27, 2019 at 14:30
Yes
June 27, 2019 at 13:50
Hi Sir, I just spoke with kcc representative, via kcc direct contact number and they requested my full name, date of birth and my complete case number, and I provided those information and kcc said my case is in process and after processing my case, they will sent me an email to send my require documents. What’s your advice please?
June 27, 2019 at 14:41
Wait for their instruction, but in the meantime, get your documents ready because you will need to act fast!

June 27, 2019 at 14:06
Hi Brit, is there any implication to file in Adjustment of status file when one is not yet current?
June 27, 2019 at 14:42
Hopefully the application is rejected. But sometimes they accept the case and the case must be denied. The fees are lost. And you have to reapply having lost a lot of time.
June 27, 2019 at 14:37
Sir,
Do I have to list social media accounts created for others with my gmail??
June 27, 2019 at 17:46
mr brit still our case is at ap we had our interview las year october so pls what should we do and the embassy said they will call us but still
June 27, 2019 at 18:02
Ike,
Have you contacted the embassy to ask about your case status?
June 27, 2019 at 18:28
Hi sir I just received this mail from kcc ,Your forms have been received and are currently processing. Allow several weeks for processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Once the Kentucky Consular Center has finished processing your DS-260, you will receive an email from the Kentucky Consular Center giving you instructions to complete in order for your case to continue processing.
June 27, 2019 at 21:15
All you can do is contact the embassy and ask for updates.
June 28, 2019 at 01:36
Hi Mr. Simon,
Thank you very much for all the articles about the DV.
Brit, I want your advice about what Im about to explain, I won the DV in 2000, but did not get the visa, that time I used 1967 as my year of birth, though, it was an error while filling up the original entry, I used 1967 on the DS260 form and in my passport that time. My real year of birth is 1969. Let me ask you these few questions:
1. Can I get my new passport with my real year of birth?
2. Can I continue with 1967 year of birth? since my records are still in the system in the embassy.
3. What should I do so not to ruin my chances in the mext DV if I should win?
Please i need your advice before I obtain a new passport .Thank you very much.
June 28, 2019 at 04:31
Honestly, I can’t help you figure out the best way to handle your previous lie (and I say lie because you obtained documents to match your original “mistake”).
I always people to tell the truth. When you don’t do that, you create a mess.
June 28, 2019 at 19:41
Brit, I’m telling you the truth, it was really a mistake from the person that filled my original entry , I’m a visually impaired person.
June 28, 2019 at 22:30
Fine – they made a mistake. Did they then FORCE YOU to enter the incorrect date of birth on your DS260 AND obtain a passport with that incorrect date of birth???
June 29, 2019 at 09:05
Yes, I was made to enter the incorrect year of birth on both the passport and DS form. The person said, changing the year may cause problems, though, I was denied because I missed my signature. Don’t forget in 2000, entry were being submitted through the post office.
June 29, 2019 at 19:46
No, you were not “made to” do that, you *decided* to do that. That is my point, you CHOSE to tell a lie (several actually) because it suited you, and now you can’t even admit that fact or take responsibility for your actions and bring up your eyesight or the post office as possible excuses. Complete nonsense.
If this does come up you had better not answer the CO as you have answered me!
June 28, 2019 at 22:55
Hi Marie, I was reading your query but was confused by your account and I hope you don’t mind me asking or you clarifying as it is very confusing, and maybe Brit understood more than I have, – if you won in 2000 why did you no get the visa? even if you filled in the wrong information because you also say you were able to confirm that wrong information
So what happened?
I found the explanation genuinely confusing? I don’t know if Brit did too? or he understood more than I have
Here’s me mystified by your account !
June 28, 2019 at 23:05
Similarly Marie, if you knew you entered the wrong data to begin with, even by accident, why use the correct data much later on when you know it will be a mismatch to an earlier entry ? If you won the earlier entry why didn’t that progress or conclude?
Particularly when it seems you are able to get that confirmed officially too (the wrong data to begin with)
How does any passport office anywhere change someone’s date of birth or adjust it to the another year
All very, very confusing – have we misunderstood you?
June 28, 2019 at 05:08
Hi sir, I have contacted kcc about my case statue and they continued to tell me that my case is in processing and their not send me any email yet requesting my documents should I send my require documents now or I should wait on their instruction before summiting my document? Because time is running out as you say I may lose my chance of getting green card if I not paying attention. Am so worry.
June 28, 2019 at 13:37
Now you need to wait some time.
June 28, 2019 at 06:55
Hello my name is ophilia Kate wood,I have previously applied to the green card program in 2004 through an agency which told me I have won in those days …
I applied with ophilia wood as the name I used …recently ,I added Kate to my name when I apply..
My question now , do I have to obtain any document because am adding my middle name ?
Ophilia Kate wood..
How do i write the my middle name when applying …
Am asking all these because, since 2004,I applied and am not winning ..
June 28, 2019 at 13:45
If you changed your name officially, then you should have paperwork to show that.
On the DS260 you can list your legal name and also other names used.
June 28, 2019 at 07:46
Dear Brit,
We had an interview on 25th June, Our visa got approved. Up to yesterday in CEAC it shows as ready, but today it got changed as administrative processing. Is it normal or further documents we want to submit?
June 28, 2019 at 11:23
Hi Rej,
I’m also from asia. what was your case number (without last digits)?
June 28, 2019 at 13:46
Normal.
June 28, 2019 at 16:24
Normally after how many days it will change as issued, if every othro things are ok.
June 28, 2019 at 10:37
Hello brit,
I’ve a question,I completed an internship at a bank and it was a paid internship.
1)Must it be included in Ds260??
2)If so where can it be included??
Thank you
June 28, 2019 at 13:51
It’s not important. You could add it under employment if you want.
June 28, 2019 at 12:50
Hi,
just a quick update for all the DV 2020 selectees reading: I just called the KCC and asked them if there’s any progress on my DS-260 which I submitted 2 days after the lottery results and they told me they haven’t even started processing the 2020 entries yet, they’re still working on DV 2019 entries and I will probably wait for several more months before I receive any updates(an e-mail with required documents etc.).
So as always, Simon was right, it is too early and we should be patient and wait 🙂 It’s easier said than done, but hey – nothing we can do about it.
Cheers guys
June 28, 2019 at 15:15
The waiting for the 2020 process to start is difficult ? . Like we checked in May and we have to wait until September only for the process to start , never mind the high case number issues .
June 28, 2019 at 16:25
You will learn patience in this process.
June 28, 2019 at 18:33
I called them two weeks ago and got pretty much the same answer. They mentioned 5 months at least, before starting the 2020 applications. They didn’t want to comment on what are my chances with EU20XXX but said the number is excellent.
Another thing they said is that modifying the application(unlock, modify, resubmit) does not affect the processing time if you modify it and resubmit it right after you are done with the edit.
Good luck to all!
June 28, 2019 at 19:32
Please read the FAQ about unlocking.
June 28, 2019 at 14:32
Hi sir i want to know how i can follow my green card cuz it was a 6months and has not released yet.
June 28, 2019 at 16:25
You have to be more clear. Are you in the USA? Did you pay the Green Card fee of $220?
June 28, 2019 at 14:53
Hi Brit. Can the interview fee be paid for less than a 2 years old baby?
June 28, 2019 at 16:25
Yes
June 28, 2019 at 17:03
Simon,
Need some clarification please. Our case number is 2019AF31XXXX, we submitted our documents in early June and have received an email stating that our documents are correct and are being processed.. When looking up our case number on the July_2NLs.csv I noticed that under submit date it states NONE – should I be worried? We initially completed our DS260 online in Sept 2018. Thanks for your time.
June 28, 2019 at 18:04
You will get a September interview. Patience.
June 28, 2019 at 17:37

June 28, 2019 at 18:10
Hey Brit,
Thank you for all the work again.
Do you think that applying for Medical or Covered California trough the marketplace could compromise the chances of getting your visa approved because considered government assistance and consequently being a risk for public charge?
June 28, 2019 at 18:22
No.
June 28, 2019 at 18:12
hello to you Simon and thank you for all. I just received my 2nl. thank you for everything because you have given me hope☺☺
June 28, 2019 at 18:40
Hi Brit
i have a long surname, there is not enough space to fill my whole surname to DS260. i’m referring the same surname which is in my passport.
hope you have a answer, thanks
June 28, 2019 at 19:33
You may have to shorten your lastname.
June 29, 2019 at 03:21
you mean surname with initials ? but then it would be different to the passport name
June 29, 2019 at 19:24
You are going to have to decide for yourself.
June 28, 2019 at 22:48
Hi Simon,
As per new rule we have to submit facebook account in DS260 application , but the problem is that the birth date me and my wife using is different from passport birth date ,shall I edit facebook birth date or it won’t make any difference .
June 28, 2019 at 23:09
I don’t think that will matter.
June 28, 2019 at 23:20

June 30, 2019 at 01:37

Hey Brit
Am thinking of unlocking my DS form
Will it affect me being scheduled in any way ?
June 29, 2019 at 19:48
Don’t you think it would be useful for my answer to know your year/region/case number range?
June 29, 2019 at 10:39
Hey brit, when I wanted to check my case number it says that ” The Case Number entered is currently unavailable. Please try again later or contact the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) by email ([email protected]) or by phone (Public Inquiry Phone Number 606-526-7500 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT Monday – Friday) for further assistance. ”
This message appears when I want to fill DS 260 Form.

June 29, 2019 at 10:55
Hello,
Please can you help me with this issue. Im filling the form DS260. In the section Mailing and Permanent Address Information, there is a question:
“Is your Mailing Address the same as your Present Address?”
Yes/No
What does it mean. I understand the Permanent Address is the Address an address in the US where the greencard will be mailed. But prior to that, the first question is Mailing Address and Present Address. How should I answer?
Im from Germany and in the Present Address i gave my address where I am living now.
June 29, 2019 at 19:58
Do you get letters where you live now? Then answer yes. Make sure you read the instructions on the form.

June 29, 2019 at 20:02
In the next few days, I don’t know an exact deadline.
June 29, 2019 at 16:25
Hello Mr brit
What different between they keep your passport with the consil or are returned to you Administrative processing
June 29, 2019 at 20:03
You can’t guess any meaning from that.
June 29, 2019 at 17:29
Hi dear BritSimon,
Did the KCC finish sending emails for August? (because today is Saturday, and Monday is 1st of July)
And also CEAC says that – Your case is in transit to the Consular Section. Your interview date was provided to you by the National Visa Center.
However, we did not receive email from them. Does this mean that our case is preparing for September? Case number is EU27***, documents submitted on May, they confirmed by phone and said that to wait interview on August. Can you please help me with my next step? Thanks a bunch.
June 29, 2019 at 20:04
You somehow missed the email. Check the ESC page for your appointment details.
June 29, 2019 at 19:05
Hi BritSimon
My current sponsor for the dvlottery holds an L Visa. Will it be an issue for me when he fills for me the I 134 form considering that he is not an American citizen?
June 29, 2019 at 20:04
That might be a problem, yes. Get a different sponsor.
June 30, 2019 at 06:37
Another query, he has a better income than the US citizen who can sponsor me. His current contract with his employer is 5 years therefore the L Visa validity is currently 5 years. Do I still proceed with a different sponsor?
June 30, 2019 at 16:11
Yes
June 29, 2019 at 23:02
Hi sir:I want to summit my documents on Tuesday July 2, please tell me the risk involve.
June 29, 2019 at 23:05
There is risk because you have left it late. What more can I say?
June 29, 2019 at 23:04
Hi brit,
Like I said before I’m attending university that will take me 3 years to complete and I’m in my first year of studies. As I don’t have a university degree now, obviously I can’t choose university degree in DS260.
1)I’ve a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA and is it the one should be chosen???
2)OR UNIVERSITY ,NO DEGREE???
You reply is much appreciated ?
June 29, 2019 at 23:33
Hi Brit – DV 2020 selectee but I misplaced my high school diploma which I received over 20 years ago. Should a letter from my high school confirming that I completed high school and received a diploma suffice? I also have a university degree.
June 30, 2019 at 00:46
Try and get something more than that.
June 29, 2019 at 23:56
Hello Brit ,
Thank for your numerous advise
1- One of my middle names in my secondary and tertiary education certificate was wrongly spelled compare to the one in my birth certificate and Passport .
Would it cause a problem during interview .
2- Again one of my middle names is missing from my children Birth certificate when it comes to father name .
Would it cause a problem during interview or I have to get an affidavit to support it .
Thank you
June 30, 2019 at 00:44
1. No
2. No
June 30, 2019 at 01:50

I want to unlock my Ds_260 form, will it affect me being scheduled in any way?
I don’t want to mess up at this stage
June 30, 2019 at 03:03
Don’t unlock unless you absolutely have to.
June 30, 2019 at 02:54
Is there a problem when you wrote ”some university courses ” on the initial dv application but you fill high school as the highest level of education on ds260 . And only produce a high school certificate during interview ?
June 30, 2019 at 03:50
No
June 30, 2019 at 03:39
