Hello Brit,
While filling the initial dv lottery form I made a spelling mistake in my wife name, later during DS260 I corrected it. Now I have received my 2NL but still the spelling of my wife is incorrect in 2NL letter. Our interview is scheduled for April and I am the main applicant.
Should I write email to KCC to inform this spelling error or leave as it is and explain during the interview?
Thanks.
March 11, 2020 at 20:45
No need to worry about that. It is normal (based on the original entry).
March 12, 2020 at 08:29
Dear Brit.
I live in the current country since 1996, but it was temporary, meaning that I lived with a visa. However, I obtained permanent status in 2002, and this is what I wrote in the Ds260. So is there any problem or should I write since 1996?
March 12, 2020 at 14:39
Doesn’t matter.
March 13, 2020 at 14:03
Dear sir
According to Visa bulletin for May, do you think my case number will current this year or haven’t chance this year . CN AS 298**
March 13, 2020 at 16:43
I have explained this in a number of articles, videos, responses to questions….
March 11, 2020 at 08:49
Hi there Brit,
Thank you as always for the time and education you put into this blog. I am the lucky winner of the DV lottery for 2020 from Sydney, Australia. My flights are booked for April 6th to head to L.A for an activation trip, with my visa expiring on April 29th. May I ask if you know what the standard procedure is if there is a travel ban to the US from Australia due to the Corona Virus before my departure date on April 6th? Would the expiry date be extended in that circumstance? Or would we lose the visa if we weren’t able to get there even under extenuating circumstances?
March 11, 2020 at 20:49
The date cannot be extended. As of now, there is no ban, but keep an eye on the news. Coming sooner would be wise.
March 11, 2020 at 22:56
Ok thanks for the info, Brit! Would there be any issues if we flew over to activate and then flew back home the next day? Would customs think it was weird if we stayed only for a day. We want to head over there ASAP now, but need to head home for work soon after.
March 12, 2020 at 02:46
Stay for 5 minutes if you like…
March 11, 2020 at 11:57
My case number is EU32xxx. This morning I have contacted kcc to find out if my documents were processed and 10 minutes later i have received an email from them please see below
I have sent my documents twice and I know its complete package as required. It looks like automated email because it was sent at 7am local Kentucky time. I don’t think they open at 7am
Thank you for your inquiry.
Your DS-260 has been processed. You should have received, or will soon receive, an email from the Kentucky Consular Center giving you instructions to complete in order for your case to continue processing. Please follow the instructions in the email. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Interviews for the DV 2020 program will begin in October 2019 and conclude on September 30, 2020. Please refer to the visa bulletin at https://www.travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check https://www.dvlottery.state.gov.
Collect and submit your documents promptly. Your case will not be scheduled for a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate until KCC has received and processed all required documents. Missing or illegible documents will delay processing of your case. If you cannot obtain a particular document, send a scanned or photographed explanation in of why you cannot obtain the document, as an attachment in .jpeg or .pdf format, to [email protected], with your case number in the subject line. Diversity visas are numerically limited and there is no guarantee a visa will be available. Only a consular officer can determine, at the time of the visa interview, if you are qualified to receive a Diversity Visa.
You and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect the civil documents that are required to support your visa application.
Passport Biographic Page: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a photocopy of the biographic data page of a currently valid passport. The biographic data page is the page with your photograph, name, date, and place of birth.
Birth Certificate: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a scan of an original birth certificate or certified copy.
Marriage Certificate: If you are married, you must submit a scan of your original marriage certificate or certified copy.
Marriage Termination Documentation: If you were previously married, you must submit scanned evidence of the termination of EVERY prior marriage you have had. Your scanned evidence must be of an original or certified copy of one of the following documents: FINAL legal divorce decree, death certificate, or annulment papers.
Military Records: If you served in the military of any country, you must submit a scanned copy of your military record.
Police Certificates: If you are 16 years of age or older, you must submit a scanned copy of a police certificate from all countries you have lived. Please refer to travel.state.govfor more information.
Court Record: If you have been convicted of a crime, provide a certified copy of each court record and any prison record.
For April, immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2020 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers BELOW the specified allocation cut-off number:
AFRICA 41,000 Except: Egypt 30,700
ASIA 15,800 Except: Iran 9,800
Nepal 10,500
EUROPE 21,200
N. AMERICA 16
OCEANIA 1,975
S. AMERICA 1,560
The Visa Bulletin at https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/law-and-policy/bulletin.html is updated monthly and contains the current allocation cut-off numbers as well as other important information.
March 11, 2020 at 20:55
Automated email – so ignore it.
March 11, 2020 at 12:50
Hello Brit,
I made a spelling mistake (Wife’s name: derivative) while filling out initial DV form, later in DS 260 I correct it. Now I already got 2NL letter where my wife’s spelling is still the same (the mistake one). Should I write to KcC or explain the case to CO during the interview ?? Please suggest.
Regards.
March 11, 2020 at 21:27
That’s normal, the CO will have the new name in the DS260.
March 11, 2020 at 13:35
Hi Brit,
Are the embassies part of processing documents with KCC? and thus that is what influences the time KCC takes to process documents ?
thanks,
March 11, 2020 at 21:28
No – the embassies are not involved until the 2NL has gone out. KCC use other departments to evaluate documents.
March 11, 2020 at 14:20
Good day Brit,
Thanks so much for your continuous help to the DV2020 Program
I have printed out the Insurance Plan for Diplomat America and i have seen all d quotes listed in it. But am stock and baffle regarding which health plan to choose.
What Plan will you advice me to choose that i will enter in the DS 5540 because i have no idea about such insurance plan?
Do i need to buy the 15 days medical insurance Plan as stated in the quotation plan?
DO I only need to attach the print out QUOTES to the DS 5540 Form prior to my interview in order to show the CO that i made some research regarding Health Insurance?
March 11, 2020 at 21:28
No need to buy a plan – just show that you have done the research and will start a plan within 30 days of arrival.
March 11, 2020 at 17:11
Hi Brit,
Could that be true that some embassies do not require I-134 form?
Thank you
March 11, 2020 at 17:27
I highly doubt that. That form is literally ONE of the requirements, and a major one at that too. Even if that were to be the case, it would be wise to still bring one with you for just in case.
March 11, 2020 at 21:31
Yes – just as I have been explaining for years. Sometimes the embassy has a policy, but it could also vary case by case.
March 11, 2020 at 18:16
I Lithuania they never asked
March 11, 2020 at 19:15
Hello sir,
I have a sponsor who has 4 members in his family . There will be 5 members total including me.He has income of $80000 in 2019 but he has income of $40000 in 2017 and 2018. Is it good to get his sponsorship?
March 11, 2020 at 21:45
Yes
March 11, 2020 at 19:52
Hi Brit
I have many friends who are ready to host me in the US but none of them want to provide me the I-134 even though they are giving me a room, food, money.
Do you think if I write all their names with adresses on a piece of paper it will be enough?
I’m interviewing in Paris if it can help
Thanks
March 11, 2020 at 21:44
No. If they ask for an I-134, pieces of paper won’t help.
March 11, 2020 at 22:02
Hello Brit,
I searched your FAQ and could not find anything related to my question. I am a US citizen and I travel frequently to Russia. I met and fell in love with a Russian woman. We plan to marry. She informed me early in our relationship that she is a winner in the dv2020 lottery and she will now be having her interview in the next couple months. I will be sending her an I-134 and my question is about filling out the “relationship” question. Technically Boyfriend or Fiance are both accurate. Will either of these answers cause any concerns for the Embassy official reviewing this form? This will be at the MOS embassy. Thank you for your awesome website!
March 11, 2020 at 22:33
No concerns.
March 11, 2020 at 22:52
Hey Brit,
Hope everything is well with you.
Case #EU24XXX
I’m here in California on a O1 Visa that expires in July and haven’t got my docs confirmation email yet.
I’m assuming that even if I get it before the end of March I won’t be scheduled for an interview before June.
1)Considering the national lockdown in my home country (Italy) and the possible outbreak here in the next weeks or so, with consecutive travel restrictions, do you think it would be safer to opt for AOS now?
2)If I still have time to switch, after my DS260 have been processed, how long do think that could take?
Thank you so much for your time,
Leo
March 12, 2020 at 02:52
1. Yes – that would be a wise choice.
2. It doesn’t take any time. The AOS process means that as soon as you see the VB with your number being made current, you can submit your AOS paperwork (I-485). Now – you do have to pay the AOS fee and get the receipt, so that might take a couple of weeks, but if you make the decision now you could probably start AOS as soon as the next VB is released. There is ample time to complete the process before September 30, because DV based AOS is prioritized ahead of other adjustment types. The first post in the link below has a spreadsheet which fully describes the AOS process, the package you need to submit and so on.

Travel from Europe is suspended for 30 days, starting from Friday… Does it mean interviews will be be cancelled too and entire dv2020 for Europe will be on hold?
March 12, 2020 at 02:46
No.
March 12, 2020 at 09:32

Dear Simon,
1/ Should I-134 form filled electronically or by regular ink pen ?
2/ My sponsor singed the form by hand using Adobe reader program is that acceptable?
3/ Are W2 and Bank letter and Driving license for sponsor as Supporting documents along with the singed I-134 form enough? Or we need more documents?
4/ I received the form and supporting documents in Feb 1st assuming my interview in march but after VB it is most likely to be in may, can I use it or he should send again with recent date?
Thank you,
March 12, 2020 at 14:37
1. Either.
2. No problem.
3. That and recent payslips.
4. You can use it with updated payslips.
March 12, 2020 at 13:33
Dear Simon,
I am a legal resident in UAE, but a Uganda passport hold.
If i win a lottery, am i allowed to do my visa process from the American embassy in the UAE where i reside?
March 12, 2020 at 14:46
Yes
March 12, 2020 at 13:37
Hi Brit,
Thank you for your last video with clarification. Though, you have mentioned that the ban applies on 26 countries of Europe, did you mean European Union? If yes, what about the rest of the European countries, that are not in EU? Does the same ban apply or not? Would be great to see the list of banned countries, I couldn’t find it online. Thanks in advance!
March 12, 2020 at 14:17
The 26 Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
March 12, 2020 at 14:46
I suppose you mean that only these countries, from the Schengen zone are affected, right? Other countries, such as: Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Romania, Russia, Turkey etc are not banned so far for the flights, am I correct?
Sorry of I’m bothering you too much. I just need to understand what is going on. Thanks!
March 12, 2020 at 14:50
That is the list of 26 countries affected. The 26 countries are the Shengen area countries.
March 12, 2020 at 19:53
Thank you!
March 12, 2020 at 13:48
Good day Brit may d God continue to bless you for us as your information are relevant for the DV Program.
I already have the 1040’s forms for 2017 & 2018 and W2 returns for 2019 . But i want to know if my sponsor would have received the 1040 form for 2019 and W2 respectively by d schedule date in April.
March 12, 2020 at 14:48
Then ask your sponsor. He/she controls when they file their tax return.

Anyone from Nepal has idea with standard birth certificate format? There are two formats one is just explaining under the letter pad of local adminstration and other in Nepali kagaj with both in English and nepali words.
Please give your feedback.
March 12, 2020 at 15:52
1- I was born in Cote Cote d’ivoire, during the entry that’s what I used since it’s an eligible country but I’m actually Ghanaian, so I used my passport number during the entry too but the passport states I was born in Ghana when infact I was born in Cote d’ivoire.
QUESTION: is it going to cause a problem during process if I ever win or do I need it to get it corrected ???
2 – Do the scanned documents you send to kcc need to be translated in English if they’re in another language?
*Please answer me ?
March 12, 2020 at 16:01
1. No problem.
2. Full instructions are given to selected cases.
March 12, 2020 at 16:33
1 – So I don’t need to get the passport corrected ?? It’s no problem If it’s states a different country from the entry ?
March 12, 2020 at 17:44
Hi Mr Brit, I’m very worried ? about the news, would Coronavirus affect the Dvlottery program?
I’m from Africa Cn 59k
March 12, 2020 at 17:45
Exactly from Algeria
March 12, 2020 at 18:27
It’s an odd question – there already is an impact!

March 12, 2020 at 17:47
Will they cancel the big case numbers who didn’t get 2NL yet?
March 12, 2020 at 18:28
No.
March 12, 2020 at 18:55
Hi Brit, I live in South Africa,. DV Lottery interview done today and approved. Now waiting for Visa’s. We are a family of four and I am the principal applicant/DV winner.
Original plan was for us all to fly over mid May together but now with covid-19 concern and the potential travel ban risk. I would like to know if I could as principal member fly over alone as soon as Visa’s are received to activate LPR and then fly back to SA again? This way not having the immediate time concern and can then immigrate with my whole family in May or little later should there be delays.
March 12, 2020 at 21:50
Yes you could do that.
March 14, 2020 at 04:13
Hi James, how did it go? I am hoping for my interview to be scheduled for May at the Johannesburg consulate. What kind of questions were you asked if you don’t mind me asking?
March 12, 2020 at 20:08
Hi simon
I have a question for you. I would like to know if my sponsor has an income of 45,000 dollars living in the state of Ohio when we are a total family of 8 people. could he sponsor me
because I saw that for a family of 8 people it is 44120.
I’m a little confused I can’t understand I’m being talked to by 125% more. I read all of your articles but I don’t come with your videos because I’m French-speaking
answer me if it’s enough or not
Thanks
March 12, 2020 at 21:39
It might be enough for the 134, but not enough for the ds5540.
March 12, 2020 at 22:39
1-for ds 5540, I will try to find $ 44,000 to put in my account and that I also have a social security number. are enough for a family of 5?
2- for the bank certificate, putting 44,000 $ simultaneously on my account in April will not be a problem for me since they ask for a statement of the last 12 months ?
March 12, 2020 at 23:36
Having 44k suddenly appear in an account won’t help.
March 13, 2020 at 00:19
1-so how do you advise to do with this money?
my nephew is very rich
2-Could he put his account in the ds 5540 for me?
March 12, 2020 at 20:58
i-134 is accompanied by the latest F1040, w2, pay slip and photo ID. where must he also join F1040 and w2 from the past 3 years ?
March 12, 2020 at 21:35
Normally one year is enough.
March 12, 2020 at 21:12
I’ve currently got a consulate interview scheduled but I wish to withdraw from the process as my personal circumstances have changed and no longer have the intention of moving to the US for at least the next few years.
Thinking the hassle of trying to maintain the green card whilst not actually living in the US is not worth it.
Would I be ineligible for future DV lotteries?
March 12, 2020 at 21:34
No.
March 12, 2020 at 21:36
good day mr brit
my interview was on 08 Jan 2020 and we got approved during the interview but after that by few day we received a mail asking to fill up DS5535 form which having the missing information on DS260 update since may 2019 as we submitted the DS260 on 15 May 2019 before it was updated
after submitting DS5535 we found our self on administrative processing

March 13, 2020 at 04:25
Hi Brit,
If I have a savings of around $ 65,000 is enough for a family of two without I-134?
Thank you
March 13, 2020 at 18:43
Possibly.
March 13, 2020 at 12:11
Hi sir
I may not be able to enter the US due to the travel ban of the corona virus….if my green card expire cause I didn’t enter can i renew it again or I will lose it forever
March 13, 2020 at 16:45
If you have a GC (in other words you are an LPR) you can enter the USA.

C. THE DIVERSITY (DV) IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN MAY
For May, immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2020 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers BELOW the specified allocation cut-off number:
Region All DV Chargeability Areas Except
Those Listed Separately
AFRICA 45,175 Except: Egypt 39,000
ASIA 18,450 Except: Iran 11,550
Nepal 11,700
EUROPE 30,000
NORTH AMERICA (BAHAMAS) 17
OCEANIA 2,150
SOUTH AMERICA,
and the CARIBBEAN 1,875
D. DIVERSITY VISA (DV) AVAILABILTY IN THE COMING MONTHS
The May rank cut-off movements for all DV regions continue to be greater than might ordinarily have been expected, in order to generate applicant demand under the respective annual limits. This is because fewer DV applicants are actively pursuing final action on their cases at consular posts abroad, and the volume of USCIS adjustment cases remains low. If large numbers of applicants eventually do begin to have their cases brought to final action, rank cut-off date movements will necessarily slow or stop, and retrogression would become a possibility. At this time, it is not possible to say when such action might be required, but late summer would be the most likely time.
March 13, 2020 at 15:39
Hi Simmon! My case Number is 35*** and I chose AOS since I’m in USA with F1 visa. Should I start to send the documents?! When do you think the number will be current?!
March 13, 2020 at 16:37
Without your region, your case number is meaningless.
March 13, 2020 at 16:56
My mistake. I forgot to mention EU35***
March 13, 2020 at 16:18
At want point does a DV lottery winner after a successful interview (gotten a visa – entered USA) considered as a USA LAWFUL permanent resident?
March 13, 2020 at 16:30
Upon entry to the USA.
March 13, 2020 at 16:33
Hi- we just got our visas approved a day before european ban, hopefully they take it off after 30days. My husband and I are wondering if we were working in the USA as a J-1 for the past 3 summers and we have SSN will we be able to start working instantaneous as soon as we arrive or wil we have to wait for the paperwork process to come through. Thanks for the response 🙂
March 14, 2020 at 05:27
The LPR status means you can start work as soon as you arrive.
March 13, 2020 at 16:49
When can I expect my case to be scheduled for interviewed, my case no is AS137## from nepal.
March 14, 2020 at 05:06
Wait and see.
March 13, 2020 at 17:11
Hello Brit,
The one giving us the form i 134 is different from the one we will live with upon arrival in the USA ( the one we stated in the form ds 260). Both of them are in a different state and both are also family friends. Will this be a problem? Thanks.
March 13, 2020 at 18:48
No problem.
March 13, 2020 at 20:15
Hi Brit,

Hey Brit!
I have a question: I am Italian and now , how you know, Naples’s embassy is closed until 3 of April because of Coronavirus.
I am current in today’s Vb and I will have my interview in June.
If the embassy reopen 3 of April process will continue As usual and they will make interview appointment, right? Because I know someone that have an appointment in the middle of April (so after 3 of April) and the embassy didn’t delete the interview . So This is a good thing, isn’t?
Thank u !
March 14, 2020 at 05:19
I don’t know. Really – this is UNUSUAL.
March 13, 2020 at 21:32
HI Simon
I am sudanese with case no. AS15956 from Saudi Arabia, and i am current now, do i have to proceed for interviewing even though that my country in ban list.
March 14, 2020 at 05:18
They will schedule your interview, but it will most likely be a waste of your time and money, unless you have a second citizenship/passport.
March 13, 2020 at 21:47
Hi Simon,
My appointment in Ireland was cancelled due to a wider-closure of activities here (They operate under limited passport and emergency visa services only) until further notice,
I got a cancellation of appointment email and requesting to reschedule from the same website I used to confirm my appointment.
When I went to the website, it says no appointments available at this moment, try again later. My DS 260 is showing my case is till at Dublin.
1-Should I transfer my case to another country whose embassy is still accepting IV interviews? Would this be risky?
2-Who is responsible to transfer my case to the other embassy, is it KCC or Dublin?
3-Who is responsible to reschedule my appointment, KCC or my self?
3-Will I still get a chance to interview in April or even May?
4-When the Dublin Embassy opens its services normally, will I get a priority to book an appointment over others?
5-What is your advice?
Thanks a lot
March 13, 2020 at 21:48
6-Is my case going to go back to KCC?
March 14, 2020 at 05:17
1. No – that will just cause confusion and possibly increase the risks.
2. The embassy
3. You
3again. I don’t know.
4. I don’t know.
5. Patience.
6. No
March 13, 2020 at 23:01
Hi brother Brit
Just wanted to ask, what is suppose to figure on a job offer, I got a job offer that I’m going to show to the CO, but on the job offer it’s just written that I’ve been hired and that they can call the employer for any question. No salary or number of hours is written.
Is it ok?
Thanks god bless you

No – that sounds useless. No real job offer would be written that way.

Hi Brit,
My wife is 17 weeks pregnant and we afraid the x-ray effect on the baby. And we are planning to extend the interview period by at least by two months. What is your advice?
Thanks

Pregnant women are provided with a shield over the abdomen. That makes the xray safe.

Dear Brit,
Let’s say the visa bulletin is current till 35,000 in May, and since June it is current for all case numbers. Do the KCC still follow the sequence for scheduling interviews? I mean if my case number is, let’s say 52,000, which is one of the latest, may my I interview scheduling be in June or July, or my case number processing will be in the latest month-September?

Once the region is current, the number order doesn’t matter. Which is one reason they don’t make a region current too soon, because lower case numbers have preference.

OK, thank you. And another question, please. Has there been an experience in previous years such that, for examples, the region has been current since June, and at the end of August the visas have been over, and the remained case numbers have not been interviewed?
March 15, 2020 at 16:13
Probably.

Hello dear Brit,
I want to ask you something. First of all Im 2020EU47xxx. I did my first enterance to another country (other than my country of origin) on 8 January 2020 and since then doing my postgraduate. But I did not put those information two informations to my ds-260 (because I tought it might take <=6 months to get an interview). What do you suggest, should I unlock ds260 and add those informations?
Other than that, if I need to unlock these informations, I can change embassy location too without having a delay right?
Cheers, Z.

If you do that asap, yes.

Hi Simon
For the EU banned countries, does it mean we will not be allowed to have our interviews in a banned country ? Or do we get interviewed but will be rejected due to the ban?
March 14, 2020 at 18:35
Interviews could theoretically go ahead, and visas issued. But of course, they are proactively closing embassies to reduce risk of spreading the virus.
