look brit i am one of dv 2017 selectey form Ethiopia and i am only grade 12 compliant my work is a householder in European union my Q is
1. during my ds form filling for Q does your work experience need 2 years experience? i checked yes does this will have any problem during my interview? what shall i do?
2. i have spouse and kids my spouse is a computer software engineer and he has MSc does his education and work experience can help me… as me and my familiars wins the game on my form by elective cross charging
3. is my spouse pepper work needed to be seen by the CO during the interview ?
4. is that true that this year dv 2017 selecee has a better chance to get the visa than the past two years ?
than you for your help
November 30, 2016 at 23:42
1. Your answer to that question wasn’t correct, but it won’t matter. What is more important is that you prove you meet the educational requirement.
2. Since you have elected your husbands country to charge to. BOTH of you must meet the educational requirements.
3. Yes
4. Not in the way you probably mean. It is not easier in away this year for a case to be approved at interview.
December 1, 2016 at 03:05
Dear sir;
Is it true that birth certificate not issued on time need some secondary evidence?
If then what r they?
Thankyoy,
December 1, 2016 at 03:13
Possibly – it would vary by country. It is a matter of common sense.

Hello, good evening. I received the notification to be selected for DV 2017 in july of this year from my citizen country. I am currently in the Unites States, we arrived in october 2015 and in January 2016 we introduced political asilum. we have not had the interview in the court yet. Can i continue with the procedure of DV? Have not yet reached the number of my request that i was assigned. My lawyer is not very clear whit the process to follow and find out with another lawyer and tells me that i can perfectly do the process. Since we are not in our country of origin where we apply, and we are here in the USA, this lawyer tells me that we should not fill the DS260. We have to apply for adjust status. i really don/t know what we have to do. we just don/t want to lose this opportunity and do not to affect the asilum in case we dont get the DV lottery
December 1, 2016 at 03:55
Asylees can process AOS. Most lawyers don’t know much about DV lottery and will charge you to do something you can do yourself. It is wise to submit the DS260 anyway as that enables KCC to open a file on your case. That file is passed to the FO later during the process. If I were you I would study the information at the link below paying particular attention to the spreadsheet linked from the first post in that thread. The moderator Sm1smom knows more about DV AOS cases than anyone I know of. She will guide you – but please put in the effort to read the spreadsheet thoroughly first as it will answer almost all your questions. The timing of when you can file your DV based AOS case is determined by the case number.

December 1, 2016 at 05:03
Hello,Brit!! I think I’ve made a mistake with my name. Actually I don’t have a middle name, but after submitting I realized that I wrote my first name in my middle name.
For example:
my name is John Smith, but it appears to be Smith, John Smith on the screen after submitting.
Can I be disqualified?
Thanks in advance!
December 1, 2016 at 06:45
Possibly. But are we talking about a DV2018 entry?
December 2, 2016 at 01:18
Yes, I am talking about dv2018 entry.
December 2, 2016 at 01:24
Well the average chance of being selected in the lottery is once every 100 years. So *IF* you are selected it might be worth worrying about it – but until then, forget about it.
December 2, 2016 at 10:05
Should I correct it during the interview if I am selected? I’m so sorry, but I still get nervous!!
December 2, 2016 at 15:11
Again. See if you are selected.
December 1, 2016 at 05:52
Dear Simon,
grateful for your support as always, I have few questions to ask
1. If I qualify by education , am I expected to show my work experience documents ? ( to that effect , should I notarize my work experience documents ? )
2. I have learnt from my reading I have to do a USCIS Immigrant Fee after getting my visa. Is that true ? if so, can I pay it when I get to present my sealed docs to the US immigration officer at the airport ? the problem is the payment method(electronic) is not available in my country!
December 1, 2016 at 06:45
1. No
2. You can pay before or after the initial entry. Paying before may mean a faster delivery of the GC.
December 1, 2016 at 07:44
is it important to send mail for selective serivice system ..i havent send any mail to them but i have been told to fill that form within 1 month ater arrival in usa…
December 1, 2016 at 18:10
So yes, it is your responsibility to register if you are a male aged 26 or less. You can get the details online. Google it.
December 1, 2016 at 08:18
Thank you for the quick response sir;
I am from Nepal…..
please would you clarify what are the evidence needed and about commonsense???
December 1, 2016 at 18:08
1. Make sure you click REPLY to keep the conversation together.
2. Common sense means to use your own judgement.
3. You are in a better position to decide what evidence is needed for your embassy – that is why I suggested using your own common sense (your own judgement).
December 1, 2016 at 10:50
Hi.Britsimon . can i get 2nd Letter?
December 1, 2016 at 18:02
As I have already told you – yes. Please stop repeating the question and READ the link I have given you.
December 1, 2016 at 11:19
Hii Mr.Simon
What kind of documents should I provide to proove that my father was studying in the UK when I was born there…I mean you told me that if I was born there and I chose my country of chargebilty to be Iraq..I need to have a proof..
Thanks a lot
Have a wonderful day
December 2, 2016 at 07:20
Hii..can you please tell me what documents should I prepare..or what do I need for the interview regarding that?
Thanks
December 1, 2016 at 12:42
Dear Simon
I am a winner of DV 2017 with my spouse and NEPHEW. We are a legal guardian of him since for the last 5 years. And fill the DS-260 including him. He will migrate with us. When we fill DS-260 we describe his biological mother and father. My question is does it affect our application.
December 1, 2016 at 17:56
Unless you legally adopted him a few years ago he won’t get a visa.
December 1, 2016 at 14:37
Dear Simon,I case number is 39XX8. I have submitted my DS260 on May 5 and i unlocked on September 28 because my residency have changed. When cani expect my interviews. I need to plan and save money
December 1, 2016 at 17:53
Probably next summer. I can’t be precise.
December 1, 2016 at 14:38
hello dear BritSimon!
I have green card and I would like to know that how long can I stay out of USA ? someone says up to 180days which is 6 months and someone says up to 1 year.
could you please tell me how long Im ok to stay back home?
December 1, 2016 at 17:53
Absences up to 6 months are no problem. Absences between 6 months nd a year may get more questioning when you return – so the risk/hassle is slightly more. You cannot be absent for more than 12 months without permission.
December 1, 2016 at 16:44
Hello dear Simon! I wanted to have precision on the “other names” field in the ds 260. As my first name in the bin is JP is on other documents Jean Pierre then I fill in this field?
December 1, 2016 at 17:50
Please don’t repeat questions I have already answered.

December 1, 2016 at 18:05
Mr Simon, there is a question in the education section in the DS 260, in which occupation do you work? I answered Education. and then It asks whether this occupation required at least 2 years of experience? I answered yes.
just to let you know I have a masters degree.
do you think I made a mistake in answering yes?
December 1, 2016 at 19:56
Possibly a mistake, but it doesn’t matter. No need to unlock for that.
December 2, 2016 at 01:06
Hi Simon and everyone reading this blog,
I’m here to share my interview experience. First of all, thanks to the Lord we got approved for our DV immigrant visa, and we will pick up our passports next Monday. This is our first time submitting our entry to the Green Card Lottery, and I just want to say the whole process is long, but the long wait is worth it at the end.
We live in Tonga, so we have to travel to Suva, Fiji for our interview. We had our interview on Thursday, Decmeber 1st. We arrived at the embassy early in the morning. Just my husband and I went to the interview, all of our 3 kids were born in Hawaii during our study at the university. After submitting all of the required documents and paying our visa fees at the Check-in window. We sat down nervously waiting for our interview. We were there since 8am and didn’t get called for interview till 11am. They were calling most of the people there for the non-immigrant visa. So finally we got called, our interview didn’t last longer than 3 minutes. The consular asked my husband first to tell her about his education background. So he did talk about his high school and then attended university in Hawaii. Then she asked him if he’s working and what does he do. We are both high school teacher. Next, she asked what will he do if we will go to the states. He gave his answer. Then she asked me if I were raised in Tonga. I was born in mainland China and moved to Tonga with my family at 13 years old. I quickly explained my background. Then she asked me if I also graduated from university. Last question for me was what do I plan to do after moving to the states. Then she said you are both qualified for the visa and instructed us to pick up our passport at the post office in Suva the following Monday.
We were definitely over prepared with our documents. We didn’t fill up the sponsor form, but we took our bank statements with us which we have enough savings to show we won’t be public charge in the states. There were 4 other families who got interview for Diveristy visa on the same day as us. And they all got their visas because we were the last one to get our interview. And when each of them walked out, they told us there were granted the visa. I’m not saying at the Suva, Fiji embassy you don’t need financial proof. But I guess it all depends on the consular. None of us that day were asked for the bank statement or the I-134. We are very grateful it’s the outcome we wanted!
Thank you Simon for your blog! It has definitely helped us getting prepared throughout the whole process! And to everyone waiting for the interview to happen or hoping to be selected next May, good luck to you all! I know my post is long, just want to share my experience in case it will help anyone!
December 2, 2016 at 02:43
Hi Simon;
Please help to advice me what do to after my interview.
On 1st Nov 2016 I have my interview and it take around 10 minutes, the embassy in Cambodia.
CO asked me general question related to my family ( I have my wife and my son together 3 people.) my education and work experiences. I don’t have high certificate but I have my associate degree and bachelor degree plus I have work experiences with NGO as IT Manager about 7 years.
At the end Co gave me Pink paper and wrote “No other information is needed at this time, we must conduct administrative review of your case. we will contact you after our review is completed. you can check your case status on http://www.ceac.state.gov/ceac .
My question is:
1. it is already one month till now, do I need to contact to the embassy to check about my case?
2. Do we still have chance to get visa as this take one month aleady do not hear anything?
please help me simon
Thanks
B
December 2, 2016 at 04:36
1. You can contact them but they will probably just tell you there is no news.
2. AP like yours can last weeks or even months. Some cases are approved after that, some are not.
December 4, 2016 at 13:22
Thank you very much simon

Hello Thank you for you help.our interview in january. My husband principal applicant. He meets only educational requirement. My husband studies 8form level at school, then the same year he continues his education in technicum four years. We are from Russia. Can we be disqualified?
December 2, 2016 at 15:07
I don’t know. Would that education have allowed entry to a USA University with no further study?
December 2, 2016 at 13:49
Hi Simon,
I received a notification for a diversity visa appointment at the London US embassy in January but I need a LND case number to schedule my medical examination. I registered on the us info website but I did not receive any LND number or find a way to get one. Would you be able to help me on this ? Where can i find it or what should I do to get one ?
Many thanks.
December 2, 2016 at 14:59
You give the doctor your DV case number, and if needed, show them the 2NL.
December 2, 2016 at 16:17
1. Dear Brit please what what does it mean when you say since you have elected your husbands country to charge to?
look Brit we both are an Ethiopian and we live together in Addis Ababa city since we are born
2.in Ethiopia for dv the minimum requirement is 12 grade complete what things should i to prove to meet the educational requirement.if you know something please let me know?
3. do you mean it is difficult to be approved our case this year than the past years or they are the same?
dear brit sorry for my broken language hop u understand me well
December 2, 2016 at 17:45
When you follow on to a previous question please click REPLY.
Your earlier question was this.
https://britsimonsays.com/ask-questions/comment-page-58/#comment-54980
1. You said in your earlier post that you had used “elective cross charging”. That means you charged to your husbands country of birth. If you were both born in Ethiopia, then you simply have misused the term “elective cross charging”.
2. Only the principal selectee has to prove education (or both if you really had used “elective cross charging”). To prove education you need to how whatever documentation is normal when someone completes school.
3. The same.

Dear Brit,
Hi there! I was selected for the DV2017 and my interview is next week, I’m from Khartoum, Sudan, and my interview is in the embassy here.
1) Regarding requirement 7. “U.S. Domicile”, would documents of ownership of houses from my sponsors be enough? If not please advise on what would be.
2) Is the I-134 a required document in the interview? because I couldn’t find anything about it in the list stated on the US embassy Khartoum website.
Thank you a million!
December 2, 2016 at 21:55
1. I’m not sure what document with requirement 7 you are referring to.
2. It is a document they can request. It is not always requested.
December 3, 2016 at 19:46
Here’s a link for the page of required documents from the embassy in Khartoum, sudan.usembassy.gov/doc_list.html
this is the part I’m referring to (sorry its a bit long):
7. U.S. Domicile: Copies of documents proving petitioner’s U.S. domicile. The Immigration and Naturalization Act of the United States of America requires that a sponsor of an alien for legal permanent resident status in the United States must be domiciled in the United States.
Place where a person has his/her principal residence and intends to keep that residence for the foreseeable future. It is a complex concept and must be evaluated on a case by case basis.
The burden of proving domicile lies with the petitioner, who must offer evidence sufficient for the adjudicating officer to make a finding.
Proving, Establishing and Re-establishing Domicile:
To prove, establish or reestablish domicile, a sponsor must set up and maintain a principal residence by demonstrating ties to a house or apartment in the United States that are consistent with ties that a resident with legal domicile would possess. Although no minimum time required, a credible demonstration of an actual residence in the United States is required.
A convincing combination of certain types of actions might be considered evidence of domicile; examples of which might be:
•Establishing an address in the United States that corresponds with your place of residence
•Taking steps to relinquish residency in a foreign country
•Working or seeking employment in the United States
•Maintaining active professional licensure, where applicable, in one’s career field in the jurisdiction of principal residence
•Paying U.S. income taxes using the residential address
•Enrolling children in schools
•Making and maintaining investments in the United States
In analyzing whether a sponsor has abandoned a foreign domicile or intends to abandon the foreign domicile concurrent with the establishment of a domicile in the United States, Consular Officers will consider that evidence of continuing and prospective employment or residence in a foreign country would indicate that the sponsor has not established his or her principal residence in the United States.”
My question is, would prof of ownership of property -specifically a house- serve as a “U.S. Domicile”?
December 3, 2016 at 22:35
Proving domicile is not necessary for a DV case. Forget the whole point 7, it does not apply.
December 4, 2016 at 18:36
Alright! Cheers mate!
December 2, 2016 at 21:10
Hi britt
My case number is AF11*** i submitted my form on 20 july and i sent message last week to the KCC about my appointemt; after 2 days they told me that im under embassy review.
is that means that my appointment would be on febryuary? thank you so much sir.
December 2, 2016 at 21:53
Probably.
December 3, 2016 at 06:27
It is nonsense.
December 3, 2016 at 08:17
Hello Simon may the Almighty God bless u for us,your advice is very important to us.Please concerning the affidavit,if you have a sponsor in the states what must he send to you concerning the sponsorship all she will send everything straight to the embassy. Please l want to know what l will taking to my interview to prove l have a sponsor over there.Am from Ghana. Thanks very much we are most geateful.
December 3, 2016 at 15:19
This article gives detail. You take the I-134 to the interview. Ghana embassy will want to know who will host you, and your relationship to that person.
britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
December 3, 2016 at 18:40
What happens if we have no hosts ? But we still have full support (money/etc)
December 3, 2016 at 22:38
Then the financial support must be strong. I recommend an I-134.
December 4, 2016 at 00:24
Thanks for your answer but isnt the affidavit of support the same as the host ? what i mean is what happens if u dont know ANYBODY in the US, no family or friends, can we get the visa just by showing that we have enough money ? if so, how much money would be enough ? thx for all your answers 🙂
December 4, 2016 at 00:39
Ghana embassy is very strict. They are used to people having hosts, they are not used to people showing large amounts of savings. They are also very cautious of fraudulent documents. However, if you want to risk showing personal savings you would need to show at least $10,000 per adult and about $5,000 per child. It’s not a finite amount, and more would be better.
December 3, 2016 at 16:00
Hi Britsimon Greetings
I have a little doubt. Me and my wife have EDV visa interview 2nd week of this December. My wife is main applicant ( EDV 2017) and i am derivative from Nepal.
There is problem with my address.
We submitted our DS -260 writing my address as Jagatpur-1, chitwan( this is as per my passport) but my wife’s address is BNP-27 ( as per her passport). Our marriage certificate has our both same address as BNP -27 ( which is our both actual address where we reside). Will it cause any problem for my interview as my passport address varies from our marriage Certificate address, where we actually reside? I am going to make police clearance certificate, which address should i use , the one in my passport (that was filled in DS260 or my place where i reside now( as our marriage certificate says) ???
I am little worried..
Thanks in advance…
December 3, 2016 at 22:40
Really, this is just a matter of using your own judgement. OBVIOUSLY, people move house.
December 3, 2016 at 20:51
Hi Brit,
Just to let you know we have received green cards and will be moving to California next month 🙂 Thanks for your help, you are a star !
December 3, 2016 at 22:33
Congratulations!

Dear Mr.Simon,
1- Can I Pay The 165$ After Arriving To USA ?
2- Wondering If I Can Pay After Arriving That Can Affect The Issuance Of SSN Card Or GC Or Both (As I Know That Not Paying The 165$ Will Stop The Issuance Of GC Until Paying The Amount -That Will Stop Or Delay The SSN Card Too)?
Thanks.
December 4, 2016 at 15:09
1. Yes
2. It won’t delay the SSN
December 4, 2016 at 17:10
Hi Simon !
For I-134 , what do you think will be the best amount of time , for “room and board” Question ?
Thank you !
December 4, 2016 at 20:51
“for as long as needed”.
December 4, 2016 at 17:24
hi simon how are you ?

December 4, 2016 at 18:37
Hi. will i be disqualified for misspelling a single letter in my name in the dv lottery 2018 registration form
December 4, 2016 at 20:50
Probably not. But then you are very unlikely to be selected anyway, so don’t worry about it!
December 5, 2016 at 04:00
Dear Brit,
Hope you’re fine. Would KCC unlock the DS260 if you’re scheduled for interview? I have to introduce new passport number as it has been changed.
What do you think? Should I write them and ask to unlock it? Or any other idea?
Best regards
December 5, 2016 at 04:40
KCC won’t unlock once the case is scheduled.
December 5, 2016 at 04:54
So, what do you suggest?
December 5, 2016 at 14:54
Take old and new passports to the interview. Just that.
December 6, 2016 at 08:50
Thank you 🙂
December 5, 2016 at 07:44
Hie Brit..I filed for AOS as I am currently studying in the US and the KCC people sent me my 2NL via email. I am just thinking ahead to the interview about what I need to prepare,(my case number is af000035***) and was wondering how I can go about the sponsor when I finally get called for an interview. I am on a 100 percent undergraduate scholarship which covers accommodation, travel, tuition and also a stipend. Will it be a good idea to put my school as my sponsor as proof of finances and also whats the minimum recommended amount one should have as proof of finances. Also am currently a junior graduating 2018. Thanks
December 5, 2016 at 14:51
I would suggest you get an I-134 from a US citizen friend. It creates no financial obligation for them BUT is valued by the Field Officers.
December 5, 2016 at 09:40
Hi Brit,is I am from Ghana and have been trying this lottery for some time now. What do you think about chances for people from Ghana. Also i am told the DV would be scrapped off and replace by a skilled based one. Please can you tell me something about ?
December 5, 2016 at 14:45
For a number of years the government has shown interest in changing the system. I don’t know what will happen.
December 5, 2016 at 09:43
hi simon,i am dv 2017 winner i donot receve the 2nl but when i fill the ds 260 form i made a mistake in my date and month of gratulation of degree paper only . how can i correct it
December 5, 2016 at 14:44
Unlock and correct it.
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/how-do-i-unlock-my-ds260/
December 5, 2016 at 09:58
I have recently won a DV lottery on 2nd draw. I have submitted DS260 as well. The situation is that my brother(sibling) had applied for USA as a student 10 years ago and he is there since then but in the relationship certificate, he mentioned himself as the only son(i.e. excluding me from the certificate while applying for student visa). My mother applied visa for my brother’s graduation was granted visa for 5 years in which she went there several times. My concern is will there be any problem in the interview. What to answer if the interviewer asks me about my family
December 5, 2016 at 14:43
No problem. Your brother lied, not you.
December 6, 2016 at 01:25
So in the interview, shall I mention my brother? If so, then he might be in trouble and his visa might be affected
December 6, 2016 at 02:55
You won’t beasked about your brother. But if asked ANYTHING, tell the truth. Just the truth.

Mr Simon, I have just read a news that elect-president Donald Trump may not allow Iraqis, Syrians, and people from some other countries to immigrate to US. Do you think this can influence DV 2017 winners?
thanks

My brother received his 2nl letter. When he went for the medicals, after finishing with the test four days later the doctor called him and said he has chlamydia but the doctor gave him some tablets to take for 10 days and said everything will be fine. I want just to inquire if this will be a problem on the day of his interview

No.

sorry do you mean unlock is very important for my interview to solve my gratuiation date mistake and may unlock delay my interview period 10q a lot
December 5, 2016 at 19:39
It is better to have an accurate DS260. Unlocking doesn’t normally cause delays, unless you waste time thinking about it – so get on with it.

Hi sir is there any issue with applying for the
1. Low income housing
2. Medicaid
3. Food stamps
As a LPR ? Thx
December 5, 2016 at 19:35
Probably not, but you need to be very careful about that to avoid problems when you apply for citizenship. It is better to plan to find work, that plan to access benefits to which you have not contributed.
Read this carefully.

Hi Britt
Im DV winner, im 25, my interview will be on january and i have a good sponsor but i stilll worry about my case.
I submitted my form with unemployed choice but i have a master degree on 2013 and i have never worked before and i still like that, may that causes a problem at interview ? Thnx.
December 6, 2016 at 01:03
It’s hard to see. Technically you are qualified, but a CO could be concerned at your ability to support yourself financially./ The only way to be sure I attend the interview. It would be best to have an affidavit of support.

Hello BritSimon,
i had my interview last month in Khartoum and till now i didn’t hear anything .when i contacted Khartoum embassy they didn’t answer.but i’m confusing about Ds 260 beacuse current processing site “Cairo ” i don’t know why.
Thanks.
December 6, 2016 at 06:23
Forget the DS260, it’s irrelevant now. All you can do is wait.
December 6, 2016 at 07:51
Hii again ..
I asked this question before but I didn’t get response..You seem very busy..sorry for repeating my question but I really need to prepare my papers just in case..
What kind of documents should I bring with me to the interview to proove that my father was studying in the UK when I was born there so it can’t be my place of chargebilty?
Is my father certificate enough? Or is there anything else I need?
Thanks again for all your efforts and help.it means alot..

By the way..you need to have comment delete option in case someone made a mistake or regreted posting something or for anyother reason

I would expect you to show evidence of his residence in another country, the temporary visa to the UK, the university certificates, and some proof that establishes the beginning and end of his stay in the UK.

Hi Brit,
Thank you so much for all your help your knowledge amazes me great job!!, just a quick questions;
1) How do you know if you are selected from the 2nd draw, will the date on the 1NL written as” September …” instead of “May 3?”
2) Is it necessary to write the place(a small city) where i attended my university, if it is still in side the country i live on the question of “places you lived”? or dose this question (on the DS-260) refers to places i lives outside my country after i turned 18.
December 6, 2016 at 14:54
1. No – it still says May. There is no difference in any of the paperwork.
2. They are looking for address history. So – if you lived in a different city for more than a couple of months, you would list that address.

Congratulations.
Since CEAC is not uploaded, you cannot check your status. But that’s OK, you now just wait a bit longer.
