Hi Simon,
Hope u r having a great time. Today, I noticed that I entered wrong birth month and date of both my parents. Do you suggest me that I change it in the DS-260 form or should I just speak of it at the interview? Will it delay my case (it is AS****50** Nepal)?
November 27, 2016 at 06:06
Since you have time to wait anyway, unlock and change – it won’t delay.
November 27, 2016 at 09:42
Hi simon. wish your are doing well. I have been selected for dv-2017 recently i have recieved a scheduled date for the interview and i noticed that the foreign state of chargebility is Somalia although i have born in UAE. I have answered the country where you have been born correct which is UAE and i answered wrongly the foreign state of chargebility “somalia” instead of UAE. this was a miss understanding of the question there was no intention of fraud. My question is since my husband was born in somalia can i claim the country of chargebility to where he was born or not. i have read there is a law under 9 FAM Rule can i present that in the interview. Can you advise me is there any hope?! can the families have more preferences or chances

Yes, read this article well.

Hello sir
I have received my passport today with the visa printed in it but my case number is different in the visa.
(01) is added at right .
Is that a mistake?
November 27, 2016 at 15:50
That is normal.
November 28, 2016 at 07:12
So what do you think I have to do?
Contact the embassy or book the ticket?
November 28, 2016 at 14:47
Book the ticket. There is nothing wrong.
November 27, 2016 at 16:49
Hi Simon, hope you are having good time.
My case no is AF 28000-28900. I UNLOCKED my DS-260 in November and added my son who is born after I already filled the form. When do you think will I receive my interview letter, will the unlocking could significantly delay the time?
Thank you so much!
November 27, 2016 at 16:57
Your number is not current yet. You can’t be scheduled until your number is current and the DS260 is processed. The unlocking won’t cause delay, but you don’t mention when you originally submitted the DS260.
November 27, 2016 at 17:03
I initially submitted the DS-260 only for myself and my wife in early July (July 7)
November 27, 2016 at 20:37
Makes sure you click REPLY to keep comments together.
OK, so when your number is current you will be scheduled. Now just wait for your number to become current.

November 27, 2016 at 20:36
Your DS260 should be accurate. Don’t write something that isn’t true!

Dear Mr. Simon,
I have went through the interview for the D.V. in Egypt one week ago and fortunately I got accepted and the visa officer asked to start paying the fees for USCIS/IMMIGRANT FEES and told me that I should get my passport in 2 weeks. My questions are :
1.when I check my VISA APPLICATION status at ( ceac.state.gov ) entering my case no: 2017AF(NO Zeros)4### , it tells me: Invalid Immigrant Visa Case Number?
2.I also tried to look at my DS-260 online form and i found that i can log into the form but It gives error when I try to open the form its self, to print it for example!
Is this is ordinary?
Thanks a million for your time and effort in this form,
All the best.
November 28, 2016 at 03:25
1. No 2017 cases are loaded yet. Forget about it.
2. Probably. Why do you care?
November 29, 2016 at 01:22
ellow mr spiderman can I discuss with you since my interview will be in Cairo

November 28, 2016 at 01:46
Hi Britt.
I have a little question in my head!
Does the number of selected entries per country, for exemple ” number of selected entries for algeria in DV2017 is 1561 ” include derivatives or not??
November 28, 2016 at 03:24
Includes.
November 28, 2016 at 07:06
Dear Mr.Simon,
My father and I changed our family name 7 years ago, but i didn’t mention it in the ds 260 form in the part of the OTHER NAMES., should I unlock and correct it or rather wait and tell them at the interview.
Thank You for Your advice.
November 28, 2016 at 14:48
Unlock and correct it.
November 28, 2016 at 08:28
Hello Brian
Luckily i was selected for the DV 2017 Lottery. I also attended my Interview and completed all the related procedures. If possible i would like to inquire about the status of my application, the expected date to receive passport.
Interview: 7th November 2016
VISA approved
Best Regards,
November 28, 2016 at 14:46
I don’t know the status of your application. The embassy will know.
November 28, 2016 at 13:08
Hi Simon,
I am a winner of the 2017 DV for the AF region (12xxx) – Submitted DS260 in late May and was scheduled for interview early November and everything went great with approval at the interview and the immigrant visa being issued and collected from DHL the next day (Warp speed processing!). Thank you for your amazing blog which assisted us with the process!
I have a few questions if you might assist. We are planning on our first entry/look around trip in April 2016 returning to South Africa 3 weeks later (the max we can get off work) to then finalise the arrangements with the sale of our house etc. We have listed a family friend’s address in the US for the green card delivery. We plan to move 6-8 months after the initial return. As my wife attends an annual conference in Washington DC each year in late June she would be collecting our green cards from the family friend. Would she be OK to enter the US using the endorsed immigrant visa or would she require a travel visa or ESTA? (She has dual citizenship – european). Also, the interviewer at the consulate advised us to stay in the US until such time as the green cards are received – is it ok to leave prior to this generally?
Thanks again!
November 28, 2016 at 14:40
Your plan all sounds fine. It’s OK to leave immediately after the first entry. The endorsed visa is then valid for re-entry for up to 1 year. Your wife cannot use ESTA after the activation – there is no need – she will be an LPR.
November 28, 2016 at 14:19
Hi Brit how are you?
thank you for your response.
i submitted my form DS 260 last week on November 24,2016 and i don’t know my interview date so shall you tell me my interview date? thanks
November 28, 2016 at 14:37
Your other message tells me the case number nut you should be more careful in publicizing your actual case number. So show your number as 2017AF14XXX. Because you submitted so late, it will be several months until your interview is scheduled. I can’t say exactly when it will be. Read this.

November 28, 2016 at 15:18
Hello mr simon
My CN AF41523 1st draw, i sent an email to unlock the form for a tiny change like u suggested. But they didnt respond , i only got an automatic reply from kcc not a an answer to unlock it. What should i do?
Thank you
November 28, 2016 at 16:11
Wait. Sometimes it takes a few days, sometimes a week or two.
November 28, 2016 at 19:52
Dear simon
Kcc sent me another email but they didnt mention anything about unlocking the form.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Your forms have been received and pending further embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Interviews for the DV 2017 program will begin in October 2016 and conclude on September 30, 2017. Please refer to the visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check http://www.dvlottery.state.gov. etc..
Is this normal ?
November 28, 2016 at 20:01
That is a standard email they send when someone asks the status of their DS260 processing. It is NOT the email they send when they have unlocked the form. That may mean they don’t understand you want to unlock your form, or it may be a simple mistake (i.e. sending the incorrect standard email). If I were you I would check the DS260 to see if it is now editable (unlocked), if not, email them again.
November 28, 2016 at 20:05
Okay ill do that right a way. Thank you mr simon
November 28, 2016 at 21:31
Hi Simon, your blog is so useful! You are doing really good job .
I have one question, was not able to find an answer on it.
I registered for a Green Card 2017 lottery, but forget to check the results, I was wandering if there are still any chances to check it ?
Kind regards,
Raphael .
November 29, 2016 at 01:19
Yes you can check it.
November 28, 2016 at 21:56
Dear Simon,
I have a question . Because I lived in few countries I was supposed to deliver police certificates for all which I did. However one certificate that was send directly to US consulate had a mistake. That mistake was made by some clerk far from my current location. I applied at the embassy of that country. I had no chance to verify it before the interview.
At the interview the consul told me that I need to provide a new police certificate and in meantime gave me 221(g) form.
According to the document it looks like I have time for that.
The problem is that it might take a while till I receive a new certificate.
Is it a problem if I receive it in a month or so. They are not really cooperating.
All other documents are in order so I don’t want to lose my visa because of someone else’s mistake.
What is the risk? What do you think?
Thank you!!
November 29, 2016 at 01:16
There is certainly a delay that will be caused by this of course – and until the visa is in your hand there is some risk. Try and get the police cert quickly.
December 4, 2016 at 13:56
Hi Simon,
They called me from the US Consulate before the weekend to inform me that my certificate has arrived and I should bring my passport. They also asked me to bring one with a valid visa. Does it mean that my case is approved?
December 4, 2016 at 15:08
Probably.
November 29, 2016 at 03:07
Hello dear Simon! I have a difficulty. When registering my first name was Jean Pierre and on the bac is JP. How can I fill my ds260? On the passport is Jean Pierre. Would that be a problem for Interview? My CN is 2017AF39xxx
November 29, 2016 at 04:39
Complete the DS260 with the correct legal name – as per the passport.
November 29, 2016 at 03:37
Hi Simon,
I am going for my interview on Jan 05, Montreal ! Our only child she turned 22! But her name is on the interview for Jan 05. will she be disqualified ? I heard there are some rules for only child!
Thanks
November 29, 2016 at 04:41
She will not be able to get a visa. There is no exception for only children – in fact – she is now considered an adult. The CSPA rules covered her for a period of time after her 21st birthday, but as she is now 22 she is no longer covered by that.
November 29, 2016 at 05:04
Thanks for your quick respond! Do you know why her name is is on our interview appointment? should we take her or not??
November 29, 2016 at 15:06
Her name is on there because she was on the original entry. It does not imply she will be approved. You can take her to the interview but the result is certain – so don’t waste money on the medical.

November 29, 2016 at 15:07
It doesn’t MATTER.
November 29, 2016 at 09:47
Dear Simon!
I was born in Pakistan and applied for DV through chargiability of my wife’s country and won. In Pakistan Birth certificates and their records were not kept well, so I didn’t have any birth certificate. I went and made it now but as it has written LATE ENTRY (2016). Is it going to be acceptable for Consular?. Any advice/
November 29, 2016 at 15:11
I don’t understand where LATE ENTRY (2016) is written. Are you a DV2017 case or DV2017?
November 30, 2016 at 11:06
I am 2017EU8*** case. Late Entry ( late registration of birth) is written in Birth certificateAs I made it now. As I read somewhere that birth certificate which were not issued on time needs some secondary evidences.
November 30, 2016 at 14:57
Possibly – it depends on the explanation for the late registration and country procedures. Put yourself in the CO’s shoes.
December 20, 2016 at 15:05
I see. I don’t know about such documents.
November 29, 2016 at 11:16
Hi, is it possible to unlock my form if I found out that I made a mistake after I have submitted it
November 29, 2016 at 15:43
Yes. https://britsimonsays.com/faq/how-do-i-unlock-my-ds260/
November 29, 2016 at 12:08
Brit,I need your help.I married my wife before I won the DV.DECEMBER 27 is going to make us one year in marriage, but now she is putting in for devoice.so Brit, will this have an impact on my program?please tell me what should I do before my interview.
November 29, 2016 at 15:46
No real impact. You don’t have to both attend the interview. However, be sure to take marriage documents and divorce documents to the interview.
November 29, 2016 at 13:23
Hello Simon, I am a Green Card Holder and it has been 8 months I live in the USA. I have learned that my mother is ill and I want to see her back at home in my country. How long can I stay in my country without re-entry permit. I also do not want to lose my months to be eligible to become citizen. Can you please explain this situation. Thank you very much. You have a great day.
November 29, 2016 at 15:47
You can stay up to 6 months without concern for the Green Card or the citizenship.
November 29, 2016 at 18:00
Hello Brit,
I am DV 2017 selectee from Ethiopia case number AF15xxx. Originally we intend our interview to be in Addis even if we are living in Khartoum, Sudan and it’s also reflected in DS 260. We submitted on May 24 then unlocked twice on June 10 to add missing school info and again on September 24 to update the sponsors address. So the question is
1. Can we change now interview location to Khartoum
2. Do we risk the visa because we are doing the interview in other country than our country?
Thanks in advance
November 29, 2016 at 19:03
1. Yes. You need to make sure the DS260 has the Khartoum address, then email KCC and ask them to set the interview location to Khartoum.
2, It can make the process slower and introduce some risk.
December 1, 2016 at 09:36
Thanks for the reply. To clarify my question we already filled our current address as Khartoum. But we filled interview location as Addis Ababa. We want to change it to Khartoum but we are worried about the risk of doing the interview other than home embassy. Thax
December 1, 2016 at 18:04
Well KCC will probably choose Khartoum anyway. Prepare well and there should not be a problem.
December 5, 2016 at 12:33
OK so shall I email KCC to change interview location to Khartoum or leave it assuming that they will change it any way? Thank you
December 5, 2016 at 14:41
An email wouldn’t hurt.
November 29, 2016 at 20:37
hi brit,
please i already submitted my ds260 about 2 days ago and there was a mistake which you already told me i could correct by unlocking my form bt upon following the link you replied me to check i also found out that my case number which is in the 20,000’s has already being schedule for december interview. is it possible for it to be unlocked being that i submitted two days ago which was on the 26 november 2016.
November 29, 2016 at 20:54
Your question is unclear. I think you are saying you submitted your DS260 just a few days ago for the first time. I that case there is no way your case is already scheduled for interview. In that case you can unlock and change information.
If however you actually submitted your DS260 months ago, then yes it might have been scheduled and in that case it cannot be unlocked and changed.
November 29, 2016 at 21:06
thanks dear.
November 29, 2016 at 22:36
Hi Brit Simon, a friend who won the lottery told me that even after you have won the lottery and have filled out the DS260 it is still a lottery and only 1 in 3 people get scheduled for an interview? Is this true? or does everyone get scheduled for an interview assuming the form is submitted in good time and don’t have a high case number (my number is current now and I submitted the form in June).
Many thanks
November 30, 2016 at 00:41
Your friend is misinformed. Find smarter friends.
November 30, 2016 at 08:57

November 30, 2016 at 05:17
Hello Brit
My name is Haitec. i have question regarding my educational certificate dates. The dates i have attended in high school are written in Geez calendar which counts 8 years back from Gregorian calendar. should i convert the geez dates to Gregorian calendar when filling my educational background in the DS-260 form or leave as it is.
i appreciate your help
November 30, 2016 at 15:20
Gregorian.
December 5, 2016 at 12:04
Hi Brit
i need more clarification for the date conversion. My certificate is written in English, the dates of attendance is only written in geez calendar. So do i need to go to legal advisor to translate my certificate or simply convert the date myself when putting the attendance date to DS-260 form.
Thanks a lot
December 5, 2016 at 14:42
As long as it is done correctly, it doesn’t matter who does it.
November 30, 2016 at 07:36
Hi Simon. We have submitted DS 260 on 07th of November and requested for unlocking as we (me and my spouse) missed adding some information about our education history. We have added only universities, but as we understood later, high school should be added also. The DS 260 was unlocked, but only for my wife as she is a principal applicant. No changes can be made to my or kid’s application. Is that the way it should work? Thanks in advance.
November 30, 2016 at 15:19
Yes that is normal. If you want to update your form, the email request must be specific about which form to unlock.

Hi Simons my wife and I won the 2017 dv lottery n my wife as principal applicant our case number is 2017AF17008XXX we submitted on July 28 but have not receive 2nd letter but that is not my issues now.
My issues is I was denied a visiting visa at the U.S. embassy in Liberia but at the time my wife n I were not marry but in fact we were not together n I was in another relationship n I used that person as my partner but not as a wife on the DS 160 form for the visiting visa and that was in April of 2015 but after that we parted n I met my wife in June and we got married in August 2015 and played in October of 2015.
But now I can’t remember the information I used on the Ds 160 n the one I used on d ds260 . My fear is will there a problem if I used different information on the Ds. 160&260 even though they are for different visas case. If yes can u pls tell me what to do about it
November 30, 2016 at 15:04
Yes that could have some impact, there is nothing you can do but attend the interview and see what happens. I consistently tell people to tell the truth. You wouldn’t be having problem “remembering” what you wrote if you were always truthful. Learn that lesson.
November 30, 2016 at 09:06
hope you are doing well?
My case number is AF 22××× from Ethiopia, first I have submitted my ds 260 in mid May but I have unlocked stayed for a month &submitted on September 1st .my question is since my case is in Ethiopia my case number is not yet current would you please clarify a bit whether my unlock without submitting for a month could delay my case……sir indeed I have read what you have answered about such kind of questions but am a bit confused coz mostly as you said unlocking can delay but in one or two cases you said it can’t I might misinterpreted your notion so would you please clarify?
Rexpectfully
Ab
November 30, 2016 at 11:02
In first place your case might not be current for months! Secondly, Unlocking not necessarily delay cases. However, it might depend on the information you have updated/corrected. Therefore, I think you just need to wait until your CN be come current.
November 30, 2016 at 17:19
hi Mimar,
when will be good to request police clearance for those Dv 2017 selectee gonna to be current in next january?
November 30, 2016 at 21:09
Once you receive the 2NL.
November 30, 2016 at 15:00
Look, your number is not even current now. So trying to determine whether a delay has been caused in this situation is pointless. Most unlocking does not cause delay. Some do. You have some months to wait anyway, so there is more than enough time for them to complete your DS260 processing. Relax and think about something else.
November 30, 2016 at 14:19
Can I unlock three time because I unlock twice but make only one change I submitted my ds in June ,my CN 43*AND up to now no 2nl for January I’m worried I need your help
November 30, 2016 at 14:49
You can unlock as many times as needed.

Hi,,
We won the lottery 2017 and our interview will schedule in December,
We applied for USA tourism visa 2 years ago and refused it. Is there any problem for our interview?
Thanks again for your help and advice

The reasons for refusal of a temporary visa are not always relevant to a Green Card case. So – the answer depends on why the temporary visa was refused.

Officer said, you didn’t have a strong reason to return back to your country at end of tourist visa. Maybe you want to stay in USA forever.

So pretty obviously that same concern is not an issue for immigrant visas.

Dear Mr. Simon,
Thanks for all your advice.
The KCC unlocked my father’s form but did not unlock mine and my mother’s.
We have sent separate e-mails for each family member but the told us that the information we provided did not match the case but everything was correct should we input the Applicants name(my fathers) name as well in our e-mails to the KCC?
Your advice would be greatly appropriated

The letter should provide the details on the principal selectee and then specify clearly which forms to unlock.

Hi Simon
Trust that you are doing great.
Please my questions are;
1. My wife won the Dv for 2017 and we submitted the ds260 form on September 30 2016. The case number is 2017AF000042…….. When are we suppose to get the interview date.
2. I will be attending a conference in the USA on the 13th January 2017 and back to Ghana on the 31st January 2017.Assuming our interview is in January 2017 and i am not in the country, what happens though my wife is the principal applicant.

1. The case number (assuming you meant 42XXX) won’t be current until next spring/summer. If the case number is 42XX, the case is already current BUT the delayed submission will mean an interview around March/April.
2. The interview will not be in January.

Whether the child can be given a visa or not depends on the date that the child turned 21 and the month they are interviewed. The article below explains.

hi Brit Simon
wife’s is dv2017 winner, in her first Entries (filled in October 2015), she entered her details that she is married but she has no children . She mentioned her spouse and completed her application.
She knew that he was previously married and that he has children from his previous wife (divorced).
ok Recently .. when she fills her ds260 she didn’t add her husband’s children. ..
my questions are
1- when the husband fills out his DS-260 form, does he need to enter the details of his ex wife and their children.
2- if he were to add his children from his previous marriage would this violate any agreement and render the visa void.
I hope you can help in answering the above queries.
Thank you.
Regards

The case should be disqualified. Once they discover the husband had children (and therefore the wife had step children that should have been listed if they were under 21), the case must be disqualified. There is no fix for this.

My case is still open and can not be finally submited, please what do you think i can do
November 30, 2016 at 23:30
Just attend the interview.
December 1, 2016 at 10:51
thanks Simon but please how can i extend the interview? should i write KCC or the US embassy in my country and please can you help me structure the letter on how the address them. the reason is because of finance.
thanks
December 1, 2016 at 17:59
Once your interview is scheduled KCC don’t handle it any longer. So – you would need to contact the embassy. You can write the letter without help – it doesn’t need to be special in any way.
