Right now there are lots of people wondering where there interview notification is. They submitted their DS260 months ago and have a low case number – but still they wait. The explanation below is one I gave in response to this same question.
The cases are scheduled according to the case numbers becoming current within any given month. However no case can be scheduled until that case has been processed. Processing means data is checked, certain background checks are performed and so on. In the latter half of DV2014 cases, that processing took less than 4 weeks – in other words, the actual processing doesn’t take very long.
However, DV2015 was the first DV year where the DS260 has been used. That may have introduced delays in the process because staff would have had to re-learn how to process these cases (new systems, perhaps additional data and so on). That delay was compounded by some other factors. First, the first date anyone could submit their forms was May 19th (which lost nearly three weeks of time before the first interviews were scheduled in August (for October interview dates). By that time there were many people (who had been told to file their forms quickly) who would have submitted those forms almost immediately. So – let’s just imagine that of the 125,000 selectees, perhaps half of them would have submitted in the first few days. It is clear that KCC have not prioritized the processing based on case number – they seem to have worked on date of form submission (which is normal). Each case needed to be processed, with a new way of working so they seem to have been taking around 3 months to process cases. This is perhaps longer in some cases where background checks are harder due to poor availability of data – so some cases are taking 4 months. There has also been a lot of form unlocking so a lot of those forms submitted early on have been unlocked as people rushed their entries and then realized they made mistakes. That unlocking is a drain on the resources of KCC as is the number of people phone KCC every 3 days asking “am I going to get an interview soon”.
So there was a backlog of work, due to a late start, a slower system, and of course the immediacy of an entry submitted on the web. That backlog is being cleared (because by now the majority of the 125k will have submitted their forms), so in a few months time I expect the speed of processing to be reduced – but for now, we just need to be a bit more patient.
The problem is so large by the way that I am thinking this slow start could have an impact to visa bulletin progression for a few months as they will have underutilized the embassies around the world…
I also wrote about the longer term impacts in this post.

Hi Simon my name is k from Nepal my case number is 2015 00 66xx .Is there any chance to be current or they will stop at 6475. Plz advise me.
June 1, 2015 at 19:11
You should get current in the next VB.
June 3, 2015 at 03:30
Hi Simon
I’m M from Egypt and my CS is 2016AF1XXX and i have submitted my DS-260 at Today (2 June)
When may i receive the 2NL? ..
second question :
I’m planning to get married, so what time plan I have to do to have the sufficient time to unlock my ds-260 to add my wife before the interview
Thanks so much
June 3, 2015 at 06:05
I think you are saying your case number is AF1000 to AF1999. If that is the case your case would be current in October. Given that October interviews will schedule based on DS260 cases processed by August 1, your delay in submitting may already have delayed your interview. However, given you plans to get married I would suggest you delay even further to get your new spouse onto the case. You can delay by unlocking your DS260 and leaving it unlocked.
Read this about getting married.

June 5, 2015 at 15:41
I submitted DS260 since feb. 2015 Case AF00020XXx. I have not heard from KCC. What can be the issue. Should I still hope?
June 5, 2015 at 17:40
You will probably get your 2NL in the next batch (2 to 3 weeks). You can email them to check if your DS260 is processed.
June 5, 2015 at 23:17
Hello Simon,
Firstly, thanks for your help.
I am from Syria my CS is 2016AS00006XXX and I have submitted DS-260 at 10th of May.
What is my chances? When I may receive 2NL? What is the estimated date of my interview?
This will help me a lot…
Thank you
June 6, 2015 at 21:09
Your number is probably safe – and your interview will be about 1 year from now.
June 10, 2015 at 21:44
I’m helping to a friend but her number is higher for the SA region. In the July 2015 visa bulletin shows the number 001350 for August, only 26 numbers below her number, but August can be the last month of opportunities. On september rarely shows visa availables (only DV2005 year). Can be scheduled a visa opportunity for her DV2015 on September 2015, that is the last month of this lottery? Her higher number is because she check his dv application 5 months later (octobe and not may)? Other years always our region shows the word CURRENT but no previous DV2014
Please, help me about. Thanks in advanced, Roberto (Cuba)
June 11, 2015 at 13:26
I laminated my documents.will cause any problem at interview?
June 11, 2015 at 19:22
Some COs object to that – but normally OK.
June 12, 2015 at 03:20
hello simon thanks for your valuable suggestions and its helpful. i am from Nepal and i have won the dv lottery process for year 2016 and my case number is between 100 to 200 but i havent fill my ds-260 form due to some correction in my passport so might be my passport will be ready on mid july…is it okay to fill the ds-260 form in mid of july or it will be late…
thank you
June 12, 2015 at 05:34
It will cause some delay – but it won’t matter. You will be current in October, but you won’t be scheduled for an interview until your DS260 is processed.
June 12, 2015 at 12:55
AM with ref. no. 2015AF000103XX and i submitted my DS260 on May 20, 2015. please when will i recieve my letter for interview. x
June 12, 2015 at 13:38
Please my date of birth was entered wrongly when entering the lottery application and am lucky winner, how can the errors be corrected.
June 12, 2015 at 15:27
You MUST enter the correct DOB in the DS260. The eDV cannot be corrected so a CO may ask about the difference.
June 12, 2015 at 15:51
You submitted your DS260 very late – over 1 year late. So I am not certain if you can even make the July batch of 2NLs. Those will be sent at the end of July. If you don’t make it into that batch, your case will most likely not proceed.
June 12, 2015 at 18:12
Hi, I have a few questions:
1. My case number is 39xxx – Europe. According to the Bulletin, it is below the cut-off for August. Does this mean that 2NL will be sent on August? September? Does this guarantee that my interview will be scheduled on time (before Sep. 30)?
2. My wife’s & son’s passports had expired since filling DS form, and I asked KCC to unlock the form so I update (end of April 2015). Will this cause any delay (I am the Principal applicant, and my form was not modified)?
3. Does the 2NL contain any information that helps check the status (interview details), or can I just use my case number to check if an interview is scheduled?
Thank You!
June 12, 2015 at 18:47
1. Yes. In August (assuming you sent your DS260 in good time).
2. That change should have been processed long ago – so no issue.
3. The 2NL is a generic email (no information specific to your case). It tells you to check the ESC site where you will then see your 1NL is replaced by the 2NL – and that has the appointment specifics.
4. (Bonus answer). The 2NL emails should be sent within about 2 weeks from now.
June 18, 2015 at 14:11
Thank you Simon,
I am not clear about point 1 and 4, can you please clarify (you mean 2NL in 2 weeks interview in August)?
What about the issue that they are having regarding issuing visas and passports described at http://travel.state.gov/content/travel/english/news/technological-systems-issue.html I’m guessing this means more delays…
Thank you!
David
June 18, 2015 at 16:35
Cases current for August interviews will get their 2NL in two weeks time which will give details of the appointment for interview which be held in August.
June 12, 2015 at 18:33
Hello Simon,
I have been select in DV-2016 and I filled DS-260 and submitted it at 10th of May.
I am worry about two answers I have made:
1- “US Address”, since I am not in USA and I do not have address there and this information is mandatory in DS-260, I entered “ADDRESS UNDETERMINED YET” . this was done in all my family members applications.
2- “Marriage Date”, In my country people register their marriage in the court before few months of the wedding night, so when I filled the marriage date field I entered the wedding day date not the registration date.
Marriage registration: August
Wedding day: October in the same year.
Do you think this will cause problems in the application? should I ask for unlock? if yes, do they unlock all applications of the case (family members).
Thanks & Best Regards
June 12, 2015 at 18:52
1. You will need to get a USA address – typically by the interview.
2. That should be OK – this was in a year prior to the eDV entry anyway – right?? So – no issue.
June 12, 2015 at 19:03
1- So no need for unlock, right?? you mean I should have my friend address at the interview?
2- actually my wedding date was October 2000 and registration August 2000.
June 12, 2015 at 19:08
1. yes you can do that.
2. Great.
June 18, 2015 at 05:13
my sister in-law is 556**,she sent her ds260 last year sept she has not got her interview date yet n sep is around the corner..is she safe?

why still not get the interview date (2NL) ???

thanks
June 18, 2015 at 13:46
If your number is 6000 range you should contact KCC. If it is 60000 range, you are not yet current.
June 19, 2015 at 07:20
My WAEC certificate and high school diploma do not bear my middle name .however my birth and wedding certificate along with my passport do. Can this be a problem during interview?
June 19, 2015 at 14:24
Typically not a problem.
June 20, 2015 at 16:04
Hi pls on my waec certificate i only put my middle name initial k(karifa) but on my other documents i put karifA will not affect me.
June 20, 2015 at 17:56
That will not be a problem.
June 20, 2015 at 20:01
Dear Simon,
I am DV-2016 selectee, I want to know what is the minimum financial requirements? My family consists of 6 persons my wife, 4 children between 5 years and 15 years, and me.
I am from Syria and I have lost two homes because of the war, and it is so hard for my to find a sponsor in USA.
I have some savings and I can focus on increasing them while waiting for 2NL but I need to know an exact minimum amount needed so I can predict my chances.
Thanks & Regards

hello, i don’t really know if my case will be treated because is more than a year i entered the registration process for the visa. my number is 51xxx, will i be call up
July 23, 2015 at 12:09
No. The final cutoff for AF region is officially released – it is 50,000. So your number is too high.
June 21, 2015 at 01:17
Hi Mr simon my name is patience tarlibo my cases number is71114 when will I get my second litter think u
June 21, 2015 at 01:28
I am sorry to say that I think your case number is too high. I don’t think you will get an interview…
July 24, 2015 at 11:43
i wish to ask that if i can still have a chance to start the process of the DV 2015. i just discover of recent that i won and this is my case number 15372. any hope for me
July 24, 2015 at 15:55
No, I think you have missed your chance. The DS260 takes time to process so KCC have been telling people that they are no longer accepting DS260s for DV2015. Without that, you cannot get interviewed.
June 25, 2015 at 07:24
Hi Brits if am correct I’ve seen the current VB for July and August and the cut off is 44250. I think that impllies all CN from 251 Will not get the chance to see the embassy that’s awful but we got to try again
June 25, 2015 at 13:54
You are mistaken. 44250 is the August interview cutoff. The number will increase for September interviews.
June 28, 2015 at 13:58

July 2, 2015 at 21:56
Yes of course
July 2, 2015 at 21:57
Yes.
July 3, 2015 at 16:02
Simon can u guess how many people will get visa out of 3801 people’s?
July 3, 2015 at 16:04
And do u have any data of 2014 ? How many Nepali people’s got visa in 2014?(Edv)
July 3, 2015 at 18:04
The limit was reached.
July 3, 2015 at 18:04
I assume you mean Nepal?
If so, they will hit the 7% maximum limit (3500)- partly because the 3801 number grows as selectees marry or have children…
July 4, 2015 at 15:22
when is the interview date for dv 2015 ghana selectees going to be out, i filled my ds 260 form in may 2015
July 4, 2015 at 16:44
Do you mean DV2016 – because most DV2015 Ghanaians have been interviewed already
July 4, 2015 at 17:01
Hi pls my case number is in 70600
When will I receive my second letter.thanks
July 4, 2015 at 17:17
I don’t think your case will go current – meaning you won’t get a 2NL or interview. I believe your number is too high. I’m sorry.
July 4, 2015 at 17:45
To be specific my case is 2015 AF 00070697.what case # will stop to.
July 4, 2015 at 18:06
Thousands below that…
July 4, 2015 at 17:07
No. i meant DV 2015 ghana selectees. i received my letter in february 2015 because of the technical hitch that was going on, so i had access to fill my ds 260 form on may 19th, but still awaiting my interview date
July 4, 2015 at 17:19
OK – so you left your DS260 until the last minute, and they might not even process it in time. I don’t know when or if you will get your 2NL
July 5, 2015 at 08:38
Hi I am from Nepal and my case number is 2016AS0000124# when i will b current and I’m going to dubai for my std by this August so when can I get 2NL and interview ?
July 5, 2015 at 14:47
You might get your 2NL in August or September.
July 5, 2015 at 15:06
After I get second letter with in how many days I will b able to give interview?
July 5, 2015 at 15:29
The 2NL is typically around 5 to 8 weeks before your interview.
July 5, 2015 at 15:54
Anyway thanks for ur help I’m so happy that I found ur wedsite I have last question for u …
Is there any chance Of nt getting 2nl letter because of Ds-260 form after even if my case num is low (2016AS0000124#)
July 5, 2015 at 16:01
If you don’t complete the DS260 you will not get an interview – other than that – no.
July 6, 2015 at 06:32
Hi, previous years you took up to eighty one thousand case #.why u are saying that my case# is high? Which is below eighty thousand. From Liberia the case# is seventy thousand six hundred and ninety seven .Am in thouht, pls make me understand ok, thanks
July 6, 2015 at 14:55
The numbers are not relevant – they simply show the place in line. Because Nigeria is excluded (which accounted for 25,000 case numbers) there will be a much lower final number this year. So – your number is too high.
Look – it has taken them 11 months of processing to get to 44250. Do you really think they can add more than 27000 in one month?
July 6, 2015 at 06:38
I received a notification online by e-mail. I read on The KCC Web site that any initial notification supposed to come by mail.. What do you think ? Could I trust it or not ?
July 6, 2015 at 14:52
There is NOTHING that comes by mail, but if this is the interview notification it instructs you to go to the ESC site to check your interview – so there is no risk in doing that.
July 6, 2015 at 08:16
Hi brit. My cn is 2015af42428 and I filled in my ds260 form on the 14 of October 2014, and i’m expecting my appointment for interview on August given the current bulletin for Africa which is 44250,but up to now I have not yet received my letter of appointment. Please clear my dobt. Thanks. Mohammed.
July 6, 2015 at 14:56
I think you should call KCC others have received
July 6, 2015 at 14:58
As I said before, check ESC. If there is no appointment letter there, call KCC.
July 8, 2015 at 20:42
Dear Simon
I have won the DV- lottery 2015, and i have an interview in August which will be in Beirut. However, when i filled the form last year, which was in May, i was living in Lebanon, but in July ( 2014 ) I moved to Dubai, and I am still living in Dubai till this date. So my question is, before heading to my interview and handing in the form, do I have to modify the form and change the latest location of mine ( from Lebanon to Dubai ), or is it unnecessarily to make that change and I just keep the form as it is? And if I do any change in the form itself, does that mean my case number will be changed & they will reschedule an appointment with me or it will remain the same?
July 8, 2015 at 22:45
You should have changed the address months ago – and given that you have been there for more than 12 months you should be providing a police cert for Dubai. However, at this point you have left it too late to provide the address. If the CO realizes youi have been living in Dubai, he might be suspicious why you have not declared that on your form. You should obtain the Dubai PCC in readiness, just in case. So – DO NOT unlock, and hope the CO isn’t suspicious.
July 9, 2015 at 05:12
Hi brit.the information about the school I graduated from is different from the one that is in the ds260 form i sent and the year of graduation is also different. The mistake was made when I went to the Internet cafe to fill in my form and submit it but I didn’t realised the mistake until when I got home and the next day I went back and notified the guy who did fill in my form and he told me that won’t be that much problem. He said that when l go for interview, I should explain to the consular that it was technical mistake. But yet I’m not satisfied. Please advise me. Sheick.
July 9, 2015 at 06:01
Well I would have advised updating the form, but you have left it too late now – so all you can do is what you have been told already. There is no time to do anything else.
July 9, 2015 at 15:33
Hi I want to ask question base on the update u are going to put up. 1 Let says I received my 2NL but i did not return for interview or some go for interview but could not get their visa because they don’t have legal documents would u replace their case # with different case #?.2 The up coming update is the final update for dv 2015 lottery?
July 9, 2015 at 21:39
1. Any refusal or no show or even AP loses their allocated visa slot.
2. Yes.
July 9, 2015 at 22:18
Dear Simon,
I am worried about interview date, what if we could not attend the interview. Because of something out of our control like:
– I could not pass the borders to the interview country at the required time, this can be happened because the embassy in Syria is closed and I need to get to the Lebanon embassy for the interview. Passing the borders is not easy because of the Syrian crisis.
– I cannot predict the interview date, but what if the appointment conflicted with my son state exams for example. His final secondary school exams will be taken place at the same expected period of the interview, this exam is supervised by the government and he cannot miss it or change its date in any way.
My questions
– Can I send a postpone request for one or two weeks after receiving the appointment letter? If yes, to whom I should send it, the embassy or KCC?
Thank you
July 9, 2015 at 23:10
Once the interview is scheduled, it is hard to change the date. At that point you have to deal with the embassy that holds your case – and some people have found the embassy reschedules the appointment for the very end of the year. I strongly suggest you do everything you can to get to the interview on the appointed date.
July 10, 2015 at 00:53
Thanks for your fast reply Simon, but do you think I should modify my application now after they have specified the interview date or is it too late? And what do you mean by suspicious? Do you mean my application might be rejected? Or could this point be a negotiable point as we didn’t know that we have to make any changes after we filled the application? By the way we have already prepared the police cert from Dubai.
July 10, 2015 at 01:29
Once the interview is scheduled you cannot modify it further. Your explanation will go a long way toward clearing any doubts as will the police certificate. You should be ok!
July 11, 2015 at 00:10
As a dual citizeen (ghana, mother and togo, father) , my place of birth ghana and my scholling from elementay is togo, and my interview appointment is in ghana. Please which country passport i will use for the interview.
July 11, 2015 at 00:22
Either passport is fine.
July 11, 2015 at 01:43

July 11, 2015 at 02:00
Sadly there is no chance. The final number has stopped at 50000
July 12, 2015 at 06:38
Respected, mr. simon plz advise me.
i am dv winner of 2015 and having case number between 265 to 280 from nepal I sent my conplete ds-260 form only on 29th may 2015 so I like to know from you is that does kcc issue 2nd letter according to the case number or according to the ds-260 form who have sent them accordingly. and what do you guess in my case, can my second letter will be issued or not if it issued what will be the time.
July 12, 2015 at 14:34
It is according to case numbers AS LONG AS the DS260 has completed processing. Yours was submitted early, so your case will be interviewed in October.
July 13, 2015 at 04:36
mr. simon thanks for your quick response.
I think you are not clear on my case iam dv selectee of 2015, my dv result was out on 1st may 2014 my case number is between 2015AS261 to 280 from nepal, iam not a winner of 2016. I became late to fill ds260 form I complete and sent ds260 only on 29 may 2015 so all the visa processing should be complete within 30 september 2015 of last year result, in this condition what do you guess can my 2nd letter will be issue or not. and should I send mail to kcc asking them about a probability of issuing my 2nd letter or not. suggest me plz.
July 13, 2015 at 13:48
is final number stopped at 7150 in nepal??because we r not gettin any updates in this month..as today its 13th of july!! Hoping for ur response!!

Hi Simon,
My name is inrahim I am selected for 2015 and my number is 55550 and I haven’t got Appointment date, could you please advice on what to do ?
Thanks,
July 15, 2015 at 08:36
There is nothing you can do. The final vb has been published and the highest number is 50000. So, you will not get an interview, and will not get a green card. I’m sorry. Try again in the next lottery.
July 15, 2015 at 07:30
Hi Simon, I am a eDV winner 2015 from, Nepal. My case no. is 2015AS000070xx. I was single when I applied for my second letter. I got married few months back but I have not updated my DS260 form. Recently, I got my second letter and I have been called for my interview in the 1st week of this August.
I mailed to [email protected] to unlock my DS-260 form. I received a mail where they said they would respond me in 1 to 2 business days but it’s now been more than 10 days, I have not got any response and my DS260 form is not unlocked. I am worried if its not unlocked till my interview which is very near.
Please, do guide me how should I proceed and how would I enroll my spouse into this.

You should have unlocked and updated when you got married. KCC unlock forms, the travel docs people do not. Once you have got your 2nl you cannot unlock so you have to contact your embassy and see how they want you to handle it. Ideally you need to take your spouse to the interview, with her documents and medical completed.

thank you for the suggestion Simon

Hi Simon, I mailed to my embassy. I got the reply today that they cannot include my spouse in this case no. as they do not have additional visa numbers left. What should I do now to add up my spouse? I am more nervous now. We have been married now for 6 months and now what next? Can u please guide me how to get my spouse in this?

Yes, I was afraid of that. You have handled this badly, and it will now take extra time and expenses to sort it out. If the embassy cannot give her a visa, all you can do is take yours, activate your status and sponsor your wife. It will take 1.5 to 2 years and you will have to have obtained a job to support her financially. You will probably be apart while you wait because you have to take US residence, and as I mentioned, you will need a stable job.

Hi Simon, my interview has been scheduled on August. So I was reviewing my application form when I found huge mistakes in the dates of entering the countries I have visited before. You know they asked for police certificates from the countries I lived in for more than 6 months and by mistake, also; I filled in the form that I have lived in Cyprus for 6 months while it is only 5 months. So don’t know what to do shall I send an email explaining that mistake? Or just try to find a way to bring the police certificate? Plus if I have to bring that certificate I don’t know any one there to bring it to me so what is the solution in your opinion?

You need to read the instructions more carefully. The time that determines you needing a police report for a foreign country is 12 months, not 6.

Hello Simon,
Regarding the minimum financial requirements, I read your post at:
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
I have the required money, but I have problems in demonstrating this, because the situation is very complex where I live.
There is a war in my country and it is so risky to keep my savings and my fortune in a bank account, I have a bank account for my salary transfer, however at the beginning of each month I withdraw the whole salary and exchange to US$ and gold because the local currency is not stable.
I can cover the minimum financial requirements through cash money (not in a bank), gold, my car and my end of service indemnity that I will get when leaving my current job (after being granted a Visa).
My questions:
1- How can I prove the cash money that I have? Is it acceptable to show them in the embassy? Can I open an account in the US? I do not reside in US and do not have a residency there? So I can begin transferring money.
2- Is it enough to show the gold bills? Should I show the gold also? Should I translate the gold bills?
3- Is it enough to show the ownership certificate of my car? Should I translate to English?
4- I will show my current job employment reference which is issued from my employer, is it enough?
5- Should I translate the ownership certificate of my apartment? Taking into account that I cannot sell it because it is in a war zone region and I have left it since 3 years.
Thank you

Focus on liquid assets, forget the house and car. Show proof of cash or gold.
To be honest, I would recommend an I134 in your scenario.

Thank you Simon,
What about opening a bank account in US for none resident or DV selectee?
July 18, 2015 at 09:00
That is no problem. Some banks expect a SSN number some don’t.
