I only answer questions via email if it is absolutely necessary to remain private. So you can email me on britsimon3 at gmail, but only expect an answer if the question could not have been asked publicly.
February 4, 2021 at 07:11
Hi Brit,
I have one question for you. I am a winner of the DV2021 and when I was filling the dv form, I mistakenly used passport number of the expired one, while I had and used the valid passport dates. Does this disqualify me from the visa?
February 4, 2021 at 15:32
I don’t know for sure how they will handle such a case.
February 5, 2021 at 19:36

February 16, 2021 at 20:03
Good day sir.

Yes that is correct.
February 5, 2021 at 20:11
Mr biden really disappointed us never you trust any one who want to stand for any election.all his promise he make from day 1. He will remove the travel ban .my visa will expire by march 14th and the ban will end of 31th march.if i need to renew the visa again meaning i will need to do the medical again for the third time and pay another visa fee again O my God have mercy on me
February 16, 2021 at 15:24
May God bless you and have mercy on you. You are lucky to have won the lottery and got visa issued out of 19 million applicants. But unfortunately we are fighting this Chinese Virus and many people across the world in general and US in particular have jobs and loved ones. As President of the United States, his priority is to protect US citizens and residents from this pandemic, and other terrorist attacks. So don’t worry, your health and wellness is top priority than travel ban.
Good luck and God bless you

February 18, 2021 at 16:17
Dear Simon,
I have been recently requested by KCC to submit supporting documents for my DV application. I have submitted all the required documents via email. After reviewing my documents, KCC has informed me that they are additional documents that I have to submit to them in order to further process my application. From their email, however, it was not clear to me the kinds of documents they are looking for. I have contacted them but they did not get back to me yet.
I have submitted copies of passport, police report (from current country of residence) birth and marriage certificates. When I read again the list of required documents, it seems to me that I have to submit a police report from all the countries I have ever lived for over 12 months after the age of 16. In other words, do I have to submit additional police report from my country of nationality where I lived over 10 years after the age of 16? Is that correct?
Your response is always greatly appreciated!
Mame
February 19, 2021 at 03:50

Hi Everyone,
This question may be more directed to Ethiopian DV 2021 winners. My case number is current and I have submitted all my document except a police report from my home country. Currently, I live outside of Ethiopia. I requested a police certificate from Ethiopia but I have been told that I have to provide a supporting letter to get a police clearance report. I would like to know the experience of other Ethiopian DV winners how they able to get this report and what kind of letter do they provide to the Federal police authority. Any advise will be greatly appreciated!
Best,
Mame

Hi Brit …. my brother has a child from pervious marriage and He applied for dv 2022 for him & his new wife ….. in his application & the new wife application He added his child …. it is true or no
Best regards
March 15, 2021 at 01:20
He was required to list the child on his entry – I hope he did that. If he didn’t he would be disqualified.
He and he wife should list the child on their DS260’s also.
March 17, 2021 at 04:47
Thanks Simon. Is it correct to add his child for the new wife application .
March 20, 2021 at 00:02
Hello simon. I’m a winner in dv21. Morocco. With this pace and giving dates. We became pessimistic. What are your expectations. And you think they’re up to 20k?
March 20, 2021 at 04:12
I don’t have predictions.
March 22, 2021 at 12:23
Hi Simon,
I really appreciate your guidance and dedication in helping people with the DV Process. I’m a DV2021 selectee from Africa (Ethiopia) and my spouse has been living in China for more than 3 years for postgraduate study. He returned home due to a pandemic (he did not complete his study, hence didn’t take his police certificate), and can not return back to china yet. However, he is supposed to submit a police certificate from China. Please I need your suggestion, if it affects my visa process.
Many thanks for your time.
March 24, 2021 at 05:06
So what is the question?
March 26, 2021 at 18:03
Hi Brit Simon,
I hope all is well!
I am a selectee in the DV2021 lottery (case number EU16xxx), and I received the email from KCC requesting supporting documents a couple of months ago.
There is one thing that it’s a little unclear to me whether or not I need to submit a police record/certificate from the United States.
I had an F1 visa from January 2015 – January 2021, and according to the information written in the email for supporting documents, one is required to submit police records/certificate from all countries that you have lived in for 12 months or more. What doesn’t say in the email, but on the travel.state.gov-website is that “Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the United States.”.
Can you please help me clarify if I need to submit a police record/certificate from the United States or not? I have never been arrested or committed any crimes.
Just in case I have filed a FD-258 to DoJ, but it will take 2-6 weeks until they will get back to me, so if a police certificate from the US is not needed in my case, then I would wanna go ahead and submit all other supporting documents asap.
Thank you so much in advance!
March 27, 2021 at 19:59
No police certs for the USA. That is crystal clear in the instructions – you need to read the instructions.
March 31, 2021 at 01:38
Hello Brit,
In August 2020 I received an email from KCC that all my documentation required was submitted successfully, and an interview is ready to be scheduled when my case number is updated. I have not received from them another notification, should I have to email them or still waiting?

Hi simon
Since now all the cases are current , im a dv 21 winner , and still did not submit my ds 260 should i submit now ( case number AS26k) and is there any deadline to submit the ds 260
April 21, 2021 at 21:24
You have almost no time left. Do it now or forget it.
April 21, 2021 at 22:51
I apologize brit for this possibly stupid question..
I submitted my ds260 today.. do I wait for KCC to email me requesting supporting documents (as mentioned on the travel.state website) or should I just go ahead and send everything?
Thanks
April 23, 2021 at 16:32
Wait a couple of weeks for them to at least open the DS260 – then send your documents.
April 22, 2021 at 06:42
Good day Simon,
I accidently got to know about our blog today and it would have been better if I knew about this so I can read through all the useful stuff here. My case no is AS30K and I was told by previous winners that my number is relatively high hence there is zero chance of getting a green card hence I did not submit DS260 till today. Could you please please advice on my case.
April 23, 2021 at 16:56
You have a chance if you submit the DS260 now and then send documents in a couple of weeks time.
April 24, 2021 at 15:43
Hi Simon,
My wife is a winner of DV2021 and she is pregnant now and expecting the baby in Oct 2021. How does it affect filling my D260 as I don’t have any info for the unborn child. Appreciate your response in advance. Thank you
April 25, 2021 at 18:09
The child isn’t born yet so it has no impact (you could also read the FAQ about that!). File your DS260 now otherwise you will lose your opportunity.
May 6, 2021 at 12:53
Hi Simon, i have a situation here. I play the dv 2022 using my valid passport but so sad for me it got lost. What can i do after i shall have won?
May 7, 2021 at 16:09
Well first you should see if you won.
May 8, 2021 at 22:56
Hi Simon,
I’m a DV 2022 winner. I wanted to include my mother in which i didn’t include her information when I was filling out the DV Lottery. By any chance, is it possible to include her information when I’m filling the DS-260 form.
And since she has my siblings who are younger than 21 years, would they be eligible to get included as well.
If so, what type of documents would I need to provide for my mother or the children if they are eligible.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
May 8, 2021 at 23:11
Neither your mother nor siblings can be included on your case. Just you, a spouse, and your children
May 8, 2021 at 23:58
Ok thanks. By the way, the mentioned Post in the acceptance letter is Nairobi, Kenya. So, is it possible to change it and do the interview in Kampala, Uganda embassy when I’m filling out the DS-260. Or I can only go to the mentioned embassy in the acceptance letter.
May 9, 2021 at 15:52
Yes you can pick the embassy when you complete the DS260 – although they actually schedule you based on your current address.
May 11, 2021 at 03:28
Hi, Simon. I got selected in DV2022. I was filling out DS-260, but I’ve just realized that there are no updates on my Embassy in Lima, Peru about interviews, would it be a good idea to pick that embassy or can I choose another one that’s getting updates just to go through the interview even though I don’t live there?
May 11, 2021 at 05:15
You will be scheduled according to your current address, not what embassy you choose. The situation in some months could well be different from now.
May 11, 2021 at 21:00
Hello Simon,
I was selected for the DV lottery 2022. I announced in the DS 260 form that I am “unemployed” and this is due to the pandemic. Could this be a problem for the acceptance of my application or during the interview? thank you
May 11, 2021 at 21:27
No
May 11, 2021 at 22:16
I just saw the category “risk of applying
I was selected for the DV lottery 2022, on May 8, 2021, but I’m leaving for the United States via Mexico on May 21 with an ESTA. Is it possible to travel with an ESTA during the green card process? thank you
May 11, 2021 at 22:37
Yes
May 11, 2021 at 22:43
Hello Simon,
I would like to say thank you so much for your all answers and your precious time.
Im an DV22EU22xxx winner. What is your prediction for my situation, should I be hopeful or more chary to be happy instead.
May 11, 2021 at 23:00
Too soon to say.
May 14, 2021 at 03:10
Hi Simon
I have been selected for DV2022 but i have a problem
unfortunately i lost my passport which i used in the lottery few months ago,
I have proven police report and have biography copy of the passport
But as you know the biography copy (frist page) doesn’t include the passport issue and expiry date
Do you think i’m in trouble???
May 14, 2021 at 03:15
No
May 14, 2021 at 08:36
Hi Simon,
Many thanks for your help. I have a DV 2021 winner and my case is current [AF000084XX]. As per the document requirement, I felt that I have submitted all the necessary documents but the KCC notify me again to send all the required documents. I am a bit frustrated that they are not specific.
1. Recently, I have submitted a police report from my home country. Additionally, I submitted a copy of my new passport together with the police report, because the passport used to apply for the DV 2021 will be valid until mid June 2021. Otherwise, detailed personal information is the same. Do I have to submit a written explanation to KCC for renewing my passport? Is this document considered as a missing document to delay the process of my visa application? Anyways, I have submitted it today.
2. Do I have to send DS-260 application form to KCC?
3. Finally, do you think that I am running out of time to get the 2NL invitation?
Your prompt response is highly appreciated!
Cheers!
May 14, 2021 at 18:00
1. Yes that could cause delay. I would have told you to resend ALL the documents.
2. You should already have done that.
3. Yes – just as many cases are. You might want to consider the lawsuit as I detailed in my latest article.
May 14, 2021 at 21:31
Good day, I did search and hope I’m not repeating a question. How important is it to get the photo for the original application right? I entered the DV2022 and was not successful. Now I’m reading lots of things about the possibility to be disqualified for an incorrect photo. Any guides other that the examples? Should I be concerned and rather have one taken professionally next time?
May 15, 2021 at 04:10
Many people don’t get selected – about 1 in 200 are selected.
May 15, 2021 at 19:34
Hello mr Simon , Iam DV winner and I did my interview in Qatar embassy ,was successfully approved by CO sudden. I received a call from the embassy ask a couple questions and have to provide a confirmation resignation and he said exactly ( don’t worry you will receive your passport within a week ) . I did that and I received my passport with no visa in it , is that normal process ?? I need your help and advice
May 15, 2021 at 19:44
No that is not normal. Ask the embassy about it.
May 17, 2021 at 16:49
Hi Simon, thank you again for your prompt reply.
Today I have received an email from KCC stating that my case is ready to be scheduled for an interview when my case number becomes current and appointments are available. My case number is AF84XX. Do you think that I will get a chance to be scheduled for an interview.
Kind regards,
Mame
May 17, 2021 at 19:38
I don’t know. Not all embassies are open, and those that are open are not taking may interviews.
May 20, 2021 at 06:48
HI Mr.Simon,
I’m a DV winner and I wanted to ask you some question regarding the Dv lottery.
My first question is since I’m already in the US do I have to do a adjustment of status?, second question is for the Ds 260 form when exactly do you pay for it? because I already did my form without paying and when I try to do so all I see it a “n/a” under payment/fees, my last question is regarding the interview do I have to call to schedule my appointment or do I have to wait?
looking forward to hear from you,
Mia
May 20, 2021 at 20:20
1. You don’t “have to” – its a choice.
2. No fees for filing the form.
3. You have to wait.
You get better answers with clearer questions and a case number.
May 20, 2021 at 21:42
My case number is 2022AF10****
I am a child of E-2 and I will be turning 21 this October so I wanted to know if I have to do an ajustement of statut
May 21, 2021 at 03:08
I don’t know whether your age will change your status.
May 21, 2021 at 03:02
Hello Sir Simon :
Thank you so much again for your great job that you do for us.
I’ve a bad situation whom trouble my mind.
A few years ago 2016 I asked tourist visa to USA and during the interview I was lying about my matrimonial situation (I said that I was married but it wasn’t true).Unfortunately I got a refused .
Last year I won the Dv lottery and I’ll have my interview the next month and now I don’t know fix this situation because I’m married now.
Thank you sir to give your advice about it .
May 21, 2021 at 03:29
All you can do is tell the truth and hope.
May 21, 2021 at 05:18
HI Mr Simon
when I try to add my husband’s details to ds 260,it ask me to submit petitioner’s details. I’ve added the my aunty’s(living in USA) address as my green card mailing address.
Should I mention her details in petitioner section or should I be the petitioner of my husband?
Thank you
May 21, 2021 at 05:20
*I’m the primary applicant
May 22, 2021 at 00:01
You are (and your case number).
May 21, 2021 at 06:01
Hi Simon,
I am a winner of the DV2022, number is in the 2022EU15*** range.
I believe the chances to obtain the GC is high, but I would like to know if there is a timeline to submit the DS-260 (in other words, should I hurry up?).
I still did not submit, since I am undecided if selecting AOS (I live in the US, currently) or CP.
Is a delay of a few weeks in submitting the DS-260 going to affect me at all (from an approval and interview perspective)?
To my understanding, the number should be available typically between January and April.
Thank you
Maximo
May 22, 2021 at 00:03
No need to rush, that number won’t be current until early 2022.
May 22, 2021 at 11:33
Hi Simon,
I have got randomly selected DV-2022, please guide next step and when i can expect interview Case No. 2022AS00028xxx
May 22, 2021 at 14:46
It is too soon to know for sure, but your case number is high enough for me to guess you will wait at least a year before being interviewed.
May 22, 2021 at 14:47
For next step, by the way, read the guide linked above.
May 22, 2021 at 20:33
Thank you Simon for prompt reply, trying to complete DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application received a message
” and what is deadline to complete DS-260 application
May 23, 2021 at 15:23
There is no actual deadline – some people will not submit a DS260 until April of next year.
May 22, 2021 at 15:18
Hy brit, my case number is2021EU320* i mailed to KCC about my case status, there’s ansve “ your case number naw current for interview procesing, once the interview date has been sceduled you will receive notification via mail to check http://dvprogram.state.gov. If you need make changes to your ds 260,you should contact to consular section when you will be interviewed, or bring information about your changes to interview appoitment. Because your case is ready to be sceduled, KCC can no longer unlock your application” this is good news or automatic reply, and use your recomendation for register to kurtis morison office for procesing for court, I don’t now what can i do, I don’t want make risk lost my life dream. I werry confused after this mail. How long time need hold my interview, just 3 months left.
May 22, 2021 at 15:57
The email means they are trying to schedule your interview now. Your case number is low so you have a chance, but the question is whether your embassy is accepting interviews or not. You can check that here:
https://savediversityvisa.org/
Now – there is obviously still a risk. If you prefer, you can join the lawsuit which may increase your chances, or just wait and see – your choice.
May 22, 2021 at 17:13
How can i change my interview location ?
May 23, 2021 at 15:11
I explain in the FAQ how to do that in normal times. However, these are noyt normal times and many embassies are refusing to take interviews from people not resident in their country.
May 23, 2021 at 16:17
Hi Mr. Simon,
Me and my wife were both selected for DV-2022. 2022AS00012xxx and 2022AS00028xxx. I have some questions,
1) Can we submit application individually but put each other as the spouse? Will it be considered as dual applications?
2) Our numbers are high and we are living in the US now. What is your suggestion for us, CP or AOS? It’s hard to decide.
3) If we go for AOS, do we have to submit DS-260? Or we can submit I-485 directly when our numbers become available in the Visa Bulletin?
Thanks a lot!
May 23, 2021 at 19:17
1. You can do that, although it is probably a waste of time.
2. It is too soon to know how high your numbers actually are. As of today, AOS had advantages over CP – but that may change over the coming months.
3. Study this, especially the linked document from the first post. https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2022-aos-adjustment-of-status-only.344334/

Hello Sir, i am a DV 2022 winner and my case no is 2022AS4XXX, i have 2 issues, first i replaced all 3 member first name and last name, like i entered first name in the last name and last in the first name in dv application and 2nd i mistakenly entered wrong Day of birth of my daughter while applying.like she born on 16 may 2019 i entered 21 may 2019. I didn’t fill the DS 260 form yet.
Please advise whether i will be denied or not.

This is unlikely to cause denial – but you must complete the DS260 with the accurate info.
