October 9, 2017 at 16:36
Hi Brit,
My wife has been selected for further processing for Dv2018, we are about to fill out the ds260, but something came to my mind, and i am worrying about that.
My situation is : before we apply we went to photographer and he did a picture. It was in the right dimension, then we went to the website and saw that there is tool for cropping, and i was thinking that every picture should be cropped before upload it. I cropped it and upload it, so after that is covering all the requirements except one…
Photo must be 2 inches by 2 inches – GOOD
The height of the head (top of hair to bottom of chin) should measure 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches (25 mm – 35 mm) – HERE our picture exceed to 38mm.
Make sure the eye height is between 1 1/8 inches to 1 3/8 inches (28 mm – 35 mm) from the bottom of the photo- GOOD
Image pixel dimensions must be in a square aspect ratio (meaning the height must be equal to the width). Minimum acceptable dimensions are 600 pixels (width) x 600 pixels (height). – GOOD
Is that could be a reason for disqualification or some problem on the interview ?!?!
I am sorry that i need to spam again, but i am really concerned about it and want to make sure that you understand my questions properly.
This with the pictures is about the her ENTR, so is not going to be a problem right ?
October 9, 2017 at 18:17
I already answered this on the other forum.
October 18, 2017 at 00:44
wiich forum ? can you give me the URL of the answer plz ?
October 18, 2017 at 02:17
This was a trivial difference. It would not cause a problem.

October 10, 2017 at 04:35
Hi brit, thank you for sharing your insite about these topics…i was a selectee of 2018 dv lottery and i hv filled and submitted my ds 260 form..i also have been scheduled for an interview on november. But i hv noticed an error on my application were i have accidentally entered the year of my employeement which starts from 2015 as 2016. Could this result in denial or is this something that can be corrected at the interview? I have a letter from my work place that can confirm the exact year which is 2015.
October 10, 2017 at 14:50
No problem.
October 10, 2017 at 06:42
Hi Brit
Is the DV Lottery site down foe maintenance? when I log in tto the site it indicates that “AES is currently down for maintenance. Please try again later.”
October 10, 2017 at 14:46

October 11, 2017 at 18:02

Dear Brit ,
Me and my wife had an appointment last week , and everything looked fine even the counsullar said our visas have been apporved and we can take our passports from the location which we provided. Anyway i took our passports today but there is a paper in the envolope and says “Your visa application refused under section 221(g) of the US immigration and Nationality Act for the reasons stated below. However, this refusal may be overcome once the missing documentation and/or administrative processing have been met.”
So we are so worried and confused that the process happens like this even we got an approved from the consulate.
Do you know why this happens and what should we do asap?
Is there any way that it can be totaly refuse?
many Thanks for your time
October 10, 2017 at 09:31
whats your country?
October 10, 2017 at 09:33
are you part of the banned countries?
October 10, 2017 at 15:07
Nope, from Turkey
October 10, 2017 at 14:44
So you are on AP. That happens. Sometimes it is because of a missing document (that would be stated on the form), and sometimes it is for additional background checks. The latter type of AP can last several months. Read the refusal letter carefully to see if you are expected to provide more info, otherwise, you simply have to wait. The outcome could be approval or final denial.
October 10, 2017 at 15:21
Thank you , Just a quick confirmation. Consular said that all our pages were correct and full but i still got that page , so my background is checking by the consulate that i understood.
October 10, 2017 at 14:50
Hi friend I’m from turkey too. If you had traveled a lot or a few or stayed in a country about 5-6 months or if you were refused previously for USA visa or got in AP once this is normal.
October 11, 2017 at 07:51
Thanks buddy… Hope everything will be good .
October 10, 2017 at 09:10
Hi Brit I’ve a question
I had registered dv2018 and I’m the winner and I have interview on 7 November but before the results explained I mean before the 22 may 2017 I got married. We married in 29 april. Do you think the embassy want me to show proof about my marriage ??? Thanks.
October 10, 2017 at 14:07
Possibly.
October 10, 2017 at 14:17
What kind of proof we should show ? Isn’t it enough that we didint even know we were going to be selectee..
October 10, 2017 at 19:30
Some embassies or COs could ask for proof of the relationship before the win. Just prepare as well as you can – just in case.
October 10, 2017 at 09:19
Hi Brit, hope you had a good day!
I had applied for the DV2019 and got the confirmation code but post applying I had a thought leading to a worry if my entry would be disqualified, kindly share me your inputs based on my concerns:
1. I had a photo taken professionally for the DV entry and since there was an official tool to crop I did that and had submitted my entry with success, but yesterday I had a thought if my photo was a valid one, thus checked with the greencardphotocheck website but it shows my photo wont be accepted since my eyes are not between the red dotted lines which is worrying me a lot, am not sure if I didn’t crop it properly or my photo was not taken properly, please let me know if this is really an issue.
2. And in the names section I had mentioned my First name and last name to be my fathers name(No middle name), say
First name: Thixxx and last name: Kanagenxxxx since my office records are with this pattern and also in a month or so am going to acquire my passport with this name as mentioned, but my concern is in my school and college certificates my first name is followed by the last name and it is mentioned just with the first letter of my father’s name which is like – Thivxx K, kindly share your feedback on the same.
Am really worried if these two concerns would cause my entry to be disqualified, please guide me on the same.
Thanks.
October 10, 2017 at 14:05
There is no point in worry about a lottery entry!!! Relax.
October 10, 2017 at 14:30
Brit, do you mean the photo or name concerns are not a problem in the lottery pick? If luck favours irrespective of the above issues my entry would be selected? No need to worry? XXXX site said my photo won’t be accepted that’s why am more scared, in case I get selected but because of my photo will it be disqualified?
October 10, 2017 at 19:27
I already answered. Relax.
October 11, 2017 at 06:56
Thanks a lot for your reply Brit! Am bit hopeful now.
October 10, 2017 at 10:13
Hi, the dv website doesn’t work, says down for maintainance. Do you have idea for how long?
October 10, 2017 at 14:04

October 10, 2017 at 11:37
Hello Brit,in case i want to provide message communication as proof of an existing relationship,Should the messages be translated to English.and who is authorized to do the translation.
October 10, 2017 at 14:04
I don’t think you would need to translate.
October 10, 2017 at 15:01
Hi Simon, I know it’s a bit early, but do you happen to have any news/anecdotes about how the consulates are treating the DV18 applicants who used duplicate photos from DV17 in the interviews? Have there been any refusals on this basis that you know of?
October 10, 2017 at 19:25
Too early.
October 10, 2017 at 15:19
Hi guys! the dv site http://www.dvlottery.state.gov looks down. I have tried several methods but it doesnt opens. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
October 10, 2017 at 19:25
Yes – try tomorrow.
October 10, 2017 at 16:12
hello brit. if you remember me i have asked many questions and you helped me very well.one of those questions, how can i avoid AP.you said to me be well prepared with all your documents.i did. but unfortunately ,today was my interview. i answered all the questions asked me by the CO.at last ,he gave me a yellow paper and i also asked is there any missing documents .he said no but further admistrating process is required and we will contact you .
how about my chance of getting visa though i am from the banned countries.Even he did not ask me any bone fida relationship. thanks brit.
October 10, 2017 at 19:21
Your chances reduced, possibly disappeared. As I explained, the rules are different after October 18. Before then you could get around the ban with the bona fide relationship, after that point, you can’t. You should have raised that point yourself, but there is nothing more you can do. If the ban is not removed, you probably won’t get the visa.
October 11, 2017 at 00:25
Hello Simon,
I looked at the Excel sheet, and the immigration website, hoping to find an estimation for DV AOS processing time. The Excel sheet does not have any entry from Connecticut, except mine. The immigration website, does provide the estimation, but not specificaly for DV based AOS.
Kindly, 1. do you know of any feedback from applicants located in Connecticut?
2. Or do you know where I can find these specific information?
Thank you
October 11, 2017 at 03:43
No – it varies – there is no normal time.
October 11, 2017 at 16:39
Thank you Simon. Do you know if the i485 processing time showing on the immigration website, applies to DV AOS too, or DV AOS has a separate processing time?
October 11, 2017 at 19:45
DV does not conform to their normal processing times.
October 10, 2017 at 16:27
Hi Britsimon
I have already made my appointment in May and I had supplementary documents requested everything and I have all the embassy
I have entered my case 2017AFXXXXX in the web site
https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx
what it means this message
Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks. Please follow any instructions provided by the Consular Officer at the time of your interview. If further information is needed, you will be contacted. If your visa application is approved, it will be processed and mailed/available within two business days. Under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, Immigrant Visas for “Diversity Visas” cannot be issued after September 30th of the year in which you were selected to apply for a Diversity Visa. For example, entrants into the Diversity Visa Program in Fall of 2011 were selected for Diversity Visa 2012 Program, and selectees MUST apply and receive their visa prior to September 30, 2012 otherwise they lose eligibility to receive a Diversity Immigrant Visa, regardless of additional administrative processing. In addition, please note that some immigrant visas may not be able to be issued if the annual numerical limit for that category has been reached.
For more information, please visit TRAVEL.STATE.GOV.
If you like an explanation
October 10, 2017 at 19:19
If you did not get approved by September 30, you won’t get the visa now.
October 11, 2017 at 13:45
thank you for the answer
so what I have to do?
where if I understand well it’s over for me?
October 10, 2017 at 17:15

Hi Simon,
Quick question about tracking US DV progress. I had my DV interview a while back and it went fine, would like to know how should I track the progress of my visa application? I have tried using the CEAC status check but it’s giving me invalid visa number. I suppose the only way would be to call the embassy?
Thanks for all the help.
October 10, 2017 at 18:59
DV2018 interviews have only been going on for a few days. You don’t need to call anyone. Exercise some patience.

Hello,
I have already been given the DV1 visa and have moved to the US (arrived this week). I paid the USCIS fee and my green card should be on its way.
I have begun looking for a job and so my question is: does the DV1 visa serve as a proof of work permission until my green card arrives??
Thanks!

October 10, 2017 at 22:06

Hello, a quick question, I’ve got what would be equal to Associate degree (2 years) in the US, is that considered a University degree or something else? What do I pick as my highest level of education? Thank you for your help…
October 11, 2017 at 03:36
“Some university”
October 10, 2017 at 22:50
hi brit if because of financial constrains i decide to play DV together with my wife and leave out my three kids. if we win and get visa to travel to America.
1. when filling the visa forms for my wife and i is there any provision o fill out for the children to serve as reference if we want to take them along in future?
2. How long will it take to complete the process for them to join us in America.
October 11, 2017 at 03:39
Do you mean you left them off the entry? If so you will be disqualified.
October 10, 2017 at 22:50
hello mr brit , i would like to ask you about the possibility of submitting to the lottery as a couple with our children (ages of 61 , 53 , 25 , 20 , 18 , 15) , and in the same year apply individually ?
October 11, 2017 at 03:41
The parents can each apply and list the 20, 18 and 15 year old as derivatives (although the 20 year old might age out).
The 25, 20 and 18 year olds could also each apply individually, but would not be able to take the parents or siblings.
October 10, 2017 at 23:41

Hello. Do you know/have an idea about the “down for maintenance” issue in dvlottery page? I am worried if it is a kind of ban against Turkish applicants since all visa services have been suspended for awhile 🙁
October 11, 2017 at 13:45
It is nothing to do with a ban on anyone.

2. My son is now 21 turning 22 in November: can he apply for the DV2019 and putting me and my wife as derivative?
Thanks very much!
