Hello sir,
Greeting from Nepal,
Thank you so much for your restless support and help.
My interview was on 12th feb 2018 from U.S embassy Kathmandu Nepal and visa granted at the same time.
But we have not received the passport yet. It’s been 16 days, in ceac site still showing READY for interview and in passport tracking site shows; there is no status update available for the passport number submitted.
Do have any idea about such delays and is there any chances of visa denied ??
Thank you so much for your continued help.
February 28, 2018 at 06:01
The visa is not for sure until it is in your hands. All you can do is wait.
March 1, 2018 at 09:31
Hi,
Where did you look that your visa is ready? I mean in which web are you seeing your status?
Thanks
February 28, 2018 at 06:59
Hello sir,
thank you for the great job, it helps a lot.
I completed my bachelor in India in the year 2012. I heard police clearance is required for me from India !, I have my attested degree with myself so isn’t that gonna work?
February 28, 2018 at 14:57
You need to read the instructions and follow the steps.
February 28, 2018 at 16:03
Thank you for quick response, which instructions Sir?
February 28, 2018 at 16:34
The instructions you were given in your selection letter.
February 28, 2018 at 17:22

Stop repeating this same question – I have answered.
February 28, 2018 at 09:49
Hi there,
I will be taking a flight from London – New York on my DV visa soon. This would be my first entry and I have booked a flight on British Airways, however I have been reading some really concerning comments online on how flight attendants are preventing passengers from boarding the flight to the USA based on the I-551. Furthermore, my I-551 is not stamped(as I would first have to be on US PoE) so I’m really worried I could be denied boarding.
I should mention that I come from a country where it is necessary to get a visitor visa should you want to visit to USA.
Could you please help me out here?
Much appreciated.
February 28, 2018 at 14:49
You are worrying for nothing.
February 28, 2018 at 10:05
Hello Brit,
I would like to ask you how the SSN works for us. In my application I selected that I would like one to be issued. Will a Social Security Card be mailed to the address I chose to have my green card mailed or how does it work?
Thanks in advance
February 28, 2018 at 14:48
Normally it will arrive automatically.
February 28, 2018 at 12:40
Hey brit, when I was filling the ds260, I used my sponsor full name including his middle name. But when he sent the affidavit of support his middle name was not on it
will this cause any problem sir?
February 28, 2018 at 14:36
No
February 28, 2018 at 16:02
Hello sir.
Should we worry about the delay of 2nl of april?
February 28, 2018 at 16:44
I wouldn’t, but if it makes you happy to worry – please go ahead.

Can a TPS holder be a sponsor for DV selectee?
I got a question to ask regarding a DV visa sponsorship. I would be very glad if you can reply me with your opinion regarding this. My friend won DV visa lottery for 2018. She has me listed as sponsor. She is about to be interviewed in 3rd week of March. But I am really confused if I can be the sponsor for her until she can support herself. Since, I am not a US citizen or a permanent resident, do you think I should be the sponsor. Currently, I have TPS status but wok in a good job. The embassy in Nepal just requires the sponsoring letter during the interview, meaning the affidavit of support form is not required. Please let me know if that affects the petition for her DV visa lottery case. I not do want to be the causative factor for her visa denial. Please give me your opinion and suggestions.
February 28, 2018 at 16:42
I don’t know.
February 28, 2018 at 16:47
Sir
I can not check status of my case it says it should be 16 digits while my case number is only 14 digits as per first instruction letter .
February 28, 2018 at 16:58
Use the correct link https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx
Entyer your case number without leading zeros.
February 28, 2018 at 17:10
this message of 16 digits is showing while checking ESC page.
February 28, 2018 at 17:33
That page requires your confirmation code when you entered the lottery – NOT your case number.
February 28, 2018 at 18:15

I am from Afghanistan I completed my bachelor in India in 2012 and am among DV winners of 2018,I heard I need to have police clearance from India, Do you think that is a must document ? since I have graduated more than four years ago, and now am in Afghanistan it is difficult. February 28, 2018 at 19:27
dear brit
my dv visa is going to expire next month ,i want to know if there is any possibility and how can i make it longer, because i can’t go yet to The usa because of a job contract that i have to finish.
February 28, 2018 at 22:04
No it cannot be extended. Don’t let a temporary job contract lose your Green Card!!
February 28, 2018 at 19:51
Dear Brit,
Thank you for your endless support.I have two questions for you regarding my application.I am a winner of the DV lottery 2018AF.I am originally from Ethiopia but I am in Italy now to study. Before three years I have been denied a US visa twice under section 212b.Now my interview place is in Naples. But my case is not current yet.
1.On the DS160 form it asks if I have applied for us visa before and I said yes.and on the explanation i wrote’I applied for a student visa twice and been rejected’.Wanted to know if it is ok,Particularly the explanation.
2.Would it be a problem me having the interview here while being denied before in Ethiopia?
3.Generally,Does it affect my interview,Being denied a student visa twice?
looking forward to hear from you.
Thank you again
February 28, 2018 at 22:03
1. That’s fine – no problem.
2. No
3. No. The previous denial was because they thought you would not return. The DV is an immigrant visa – so that is not an issue.
February 28, 2018 at 20:47
Hi Brit,
We have 4 members in our case, 3 of us had interview 3 weeks ago and visas issued today. Our son is currently a student in the USA. We talked about his situation during the interview. They said either he can come to the embassy for an interview or apply for an adjustment of status in the USA. we decided to have the interview in the USA.
We are not clear about the process actually.
Do we have to be present there or can he start the process? If we have to be present there do we have to get the green card first or just entering and submitting the envelopes at the border is enough.
Thank you
February 28, 2018 at 21:22
I warned you of the complications with this process. I explained what you would have to do if you chose to ignore my advice as you have. So – now you will have to figure out the steps yourself.
February 28, 2018 at 21:45
Hi Simon,
Just a quick question. I tried to check my status on the CEAC status page. After entering the case number without the zeros, entering the captcha code and hitting submit button it just stays on that page and doesn’t do anything. Is the CEAC status page down or not working? Apologize if i have missed on some updates on the same as i do not get much time to read on this forum.
Kindly let me know whats up with the CEAC page. I will really appreciate your help.
Many thanks Simon.
Cheers!
February 28, 2018 at 22:15
Most likely, Your pop up blocker is stopping you seeing the status.
March 1, 2018 at 00:33
Goodnight.
I want to ask again about my situation with my husband’s children, they were included in my husband’s 260 in mine, for information required since they are minors and do not live with us. I did not include them in the initial registration since I registered as the main one, now I have that question about the process with them:
1-. I must include them
2.- they participate for the visa
3.- At the moment they will not emigrate with us because of what I have to do
March 1, 2018 at 00:52
You must answer this question.
Were you married at the time of the initial entry into the lottery?
March 1, 2018 at 00:59
Yes, with me
March 1, 2018 at 01:01
OK – so the children were your step children. You should have included them on your initial entry. Not doing so was a terrible mistake – and will cause your disqualification.
March 1, 2018 at 01:31
ok, then I will not get the 2NL. because they disqualified me.
March 1, 2018 at 01:56
Actually – you WILL get the 2NL. KCC do not disqualify cases – people are entitled to go for the interview – but once they know you have left the children off the initial entry, they have no choice except to disqualify you.
March 6, 2018 at 02:08
ok, in this case I fill the 260 to them for not having that information, I only included them in the 260 of my husband. I can not get to unblock and eliminate them from there, and so I can go to my appointment because in reality their mothers do not want them to participate or another option is to take them to the interview so they can see that they were not omitted because they wanted to but because they did not know, The fact is that I do not want to lose this great opportunity.
March 6, 2018 at 04:24
You are not paying attention to what I am saying. You WILL BE disqualified at interview. So – ignore me if you want to waste your time and money.
March 1, 2018 at 05:30
If someone is cut in the act of multiple entry, will this affect his or her next entry in another year or affect his or her record when planning to travel as a tourist?
March 1, 2018 at 06:00
Possibly.
March 1, 2018 at 07:03
If possibly multiple entries will affect future travel plans, what’s your advice, should I forget about my American dream by applying as a tourist again? Because I’ve been denied twice. Once as a student the second as a tourist with my family
March 1, 2018 at 14:31
My advice would have been to follow the rules. If you haven’t been honest – I have no further advice for you.
March 1, 2018 at 06:02
I have received the 2NL yesterday for April Interview.
March 1, 2018 at 08:06
Hi Simon..I think I have landed myself in trouble…I took out my child’s birth certificate from local authorities but lost it and forgot about it…sometime later school asked for birth certificate….I again applied and received another birth certificate…according to official records it seems I have two sons…but I have only one..will they disqualify me at interview??? or a letter or affidavit from local authorities satisfy the CO
March 1, 2018 at 14:30
I can’t predict the outcome. Frankly your explanation makes little sense. You seem to be saying that re-registering a birth was easier than getting a copy!
March 1, 2018 at 08:53
Hello sir. Thank you very much for answering the questions and making it easier for us all. This years visa bulletin numbers for Europe are moving so slow. My number is 36XXX and actually i am getting anxious that my number wont make it by september. Thank you very much,I appreciate your very fine work.
March 1, 2018 at 14:28
Yes – there is some risk for your case – wait and see.
March 1, 2018 at 12:16
Thank you Simon for usual support. May God bless you.
My husband is DV2018 winner and we are from Ethiopia. We have already been issued the visa and we are planning to go next month to extend our visa. I apologize in advance for my lengthy question.
1. Can we come back only with the I-551 stamp as the time we can spend in the USA is only two weeks (we can not stay due to work related issue)?
2. From what I read, we may not get our Social Security Number with this short time (2 weeks after arrival). We have answered “yes” to the question “Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN”. Will this facilitate the process?
3. We will change the address where our green card will be sent. Will this delay the process?
4. Is there any new regulation that we should be abide by in order to get back to the USA as long as it is with in one year after the I-551 stamp?
Thank you for your valuable time!
Mun
March 1, 2018 at 14:25
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Not if you do that at the POE
4. No
March 1, 2018 at 15:06
hello simon I was in Administrative Processing and today I checked my case I found issued is what it means that I had the visa and thank you
March 1, 2018 at 15:29
Issued means approved.
March 2, 2018 at 16:43
Hello waild how long been AP? Where are you from?
March 1, 2018 at 15:41
Brit how are u bro if u see the way vb is going slowly can 43xxx as safe range?????
Thank you for that . I will appear appreciate you .your volunteerly job for team hope .
March 1, 2018 at 16:46
Read some of the numerous articles where I have discussed that.
March 1, 2018 at 17:27
Hello Brit, I am analysing the datas on xhartisius site, EU region. As I can see, the ready field is till number 17000, does this mean, that case number till they will be called to the april interview? I try to understand… I would also like to ask the aplicants to help scraping…
Thank you Brit for explaining…
March 1, 2018 at 17:33
The April interviews are up to 15950. Other high case numbers appear at embassies for other regions.
March 2, 2018 at 04:18
I’m afraid that’s a visualization artifact caused by the binning and the fact that I’m using a line plot instead of bars or a step function. There’re two data points at the end of EU range [15k-16k] and [16k-17k], the former has some number of ready/inTransit cases, while the latter is just At NVC/Holes. However, the plotting library approximates the transition between those two points like that \ instead of |_. This creates an illusion that there are some ready cases in the [16k-17k] range, but that’s not real.
March 2, 2018 at 05:52
So – For the few people that really understand, how can you interpret these numbers? Something to understand? Thanks.
March 2, 2018 at 17:16
I’m not sure I understand. What’s to interpret?
Here’s the an example of what I thought had Dana confused: https://i.imgur.com/HmpJ0nT.png
March 2, 2018 at 17:57
Oh, ok, thank you Xart 🙂
March 2, 2018 at 19:42
Yes, Xarthisius, you understood what confused me.
March 2, 2018 at 07:53
Thank you for your quick response. After Brits answer I was confused I thought that only I see ghosts 🙂 Because when I filtered EU and my embassy in EU, ready cases were up to 17k. Thanks & Greetings!
March 1, 2018 at 20:36
Dear Simon
I have seen some syntax error on marriage certificate during filling and I already uploaded it, but I am going to correct it so how I can upload again?
March 1, 2018 at 20:43
You can’t. But take the corrected cert to the interview.
March 1, 2018 at 21:16
What happens if my medical results have not reached the Embassy on the day of my interview (London)?
Thank you for all your stellar help.
March 1, 2018 at 21:25
Your case will be placed on AP pending the medical report.
March 2, 2018 at 01:15
Do I have to enter the United States from the state that I want to as my residence? Or can I enter through any states?
March 2, 2018 at 01:50
Anywhere.
March 2, 2018 at 03:21
Do we have to submit our documents to the embassy before receiving second letter?
March 2, 2018 at 03:54
No
March 2, 2018 at 10:58
Hi simon
I received my 2NL for April 4 days ago.i tried to register for my appointment at the US embassy Addis Ababa Ethiopia. But I have two questions
1 . What is a DS 260 number…is it the number appeared on the right side of the DS confirmation letter that starts with AA00 ..?
2 . Do i have to have interview schedule for the beneficiaries [ my wife and kids ] too … or…only mine [ the principal applicant ] is enough ? I asked this because they do have their own DS 260 number… if this number is the one that begins with AA00 on the confirmation letter .
Thanks
March 2, 2018 at 15:25
1. Yes
2. One appointment.
March 2, 2018 at 11:33
good morning reviewing the DS260 I realize that the year I place in which I graduate does not match the title, the title has an error and I graduated in the year 95 and the title says 97 it would be better to unlock the form to correct it
March 2, 2018 at 16:47
It is not that important, but if you are waiting anyway, there is no harm in unlocking and correcting.
March 2, 2018 at 18:10
what happens is that I have a high number and I am SA24XX my hope is to go to curret and as I send the DS fast in the month of June I hope to be called faster because, I do not know if it is true but I have heard something. According to your experience you can tell me about that subject, if you go to Curret give priority to who sent the DS with time. 2) if not unblocking to correct that error will be grounds for disqualification. thank you for your answer
March 2, 2018 at 18:38
OK – then the reality is you have little or no chance of getting an interview. There are too many selectees this year and your number is too high. Your early submission of the DS260 makes no difference.
March 4, 2018 at 10:34
Hello, Simon. I am in a very similar situation but my CN is SA16XX. What options do I have? I see the oportunity of having an interview less likely everyday.
March 4, 2018 at 15:03
Options? ONly one – Wait and see.
March 2, 2018 at 15:34
Hi Simon
I have received my 2NL for April 4 ..and I am trying to make an appointment for the interview at US embassy Addis Ababa.
1. What is DS 260 number
2 . should i make the appointment for the principal applicant or for all the beneficiaries..because it asks he passport number and the DS 260 number…I thought i should make appointment for my wife and kids with their own passport number and DS 260 number
thank you
March 2, 2018 at 16:07
Just got your answer
thank you
March 2, 2018 at 20:09
hi
i have a question, I will travel with my son for his first entry to the US and we plan to do so in May, now his passport that has the visa stamp expires in August, would that be a problem at the POE?
Thanks
March 2, 2018 at 20:18
Possibly, yes. You can look into whether you can get a replacement passport and travel with BOTH passports.
March 3, 2018 at 10:46
Namaste .My case is updated showing Ready .Hope very soon i will get formal notice of 2NL for interview. If my sponser did not help me by sending welcome letter
What can i do in that situation
Please show me way
March 3, 2018 at 14:46
Is this for Nepal? THey want a welcome letter. So – get one.
March 4, 2018 at 02:24
Yes sir I am from Nepal . Whose name and address i filled up in visa application form is not in contact and does not response my message and request . I think he does not support me by sending wellcome letter . can i change sir

March 4, 2018 at 15:00
Thank you sir . But without consent of nvc or concerned authority can i change? please write me process how i can change sponser
March 4, 2018 at 15:15
You unlock and change the address on the DS260. Read the FAQ.
March 3, 2018 at 17:00
This anxiety will kill me!!
I have read that the high number for Africa is 49xxx for 2018 but please tell me what you think about AF417xx chances for interview.

March 3, 2018 at 20:32
Good evening Simon I spent my visa interview and he put me on administrative processing because at the initial registration I made a mistake and the consultation was comprehensive and he told me that I must take the advice lawyers so that I can know if I can give you the visa or not so we can return you the passport with or without a visa and when I checked my status before yesterday it changed from and I found issued is what he granted me the visa?
can he return the passport without a visa ?
March 3, 2018 at 21:09
Issued means good news. Now relax.
March 4, 2018 at 06:26
Hi walid131 please can you share with us the mistake you made at the initial registration!
Thank you.
March 3, 2018 at 20:59
Hello Brit, a question
In the application to participate in the DV2019, I selected the option that my High school degree had
But in reality, I already closed at the university. but they have not yet given me my University Degree. that is why select the option of high school degree
But I found out later, that I had to select the option of Some University Courses
may be grounds for disqualification or denial of the visa?
March 3, 2018 at 21:08
No
March 4, 2018 at 06:38
Hi Brit
When I check the CEAC site-I get this answer. What must I do?
Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete. You can also find these instructions online at http://nvc.state.gov (English) and http://nvc.state.gov/espanol (Spanish)
March 4, 2018 at 07:13
Ignore all of that. You just wait.
March 4, 2018 at 06:56
Hi Brit, I looked at the graphs per embassy, provided by Xarthisius and found out that there were no ready cases in Russia and in Ukraine after 14XXX. Do you think that those countries have reached the country limit or the embassy haven’t yet accepted the files (there are still files in transit)?
March 4, 2018 at 07:12
Probably still in transit.
March 4, 2018 at 07:11
Dear Simon.
How are u?
I have got the 2NL for April interview and registered on the US Embassy in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia site for Interview as per the instruction.
I just heard that it is not important for Ethiopian DV winners to have an affidavit of support letter.
I just want to know whether i should have the letter or not ?
Best Regards,
Solomon
March 4, 2018 at 07:14
Addis will be more interested in your host.
March 4, 2018 at 14:45
Hi Solomon, when you get the 2NL?All the rest of dv winters didn’t get it!Mah it’s strange this situation!Thank you so much!
March 4, 2018 at 15:14
Lots of people were sent the 2NLs. Many weren’t. Be patient.
March 4, 2018 at 11:25
If my visa is approved at interview, will that automatically cancel my iVisa (media/journalism visa)? Or will I be cancelled when I enter the United States? (Or at all?)
March 4, 2018 at 15:05
“When” is irrelevant. You cannot use the old visa once you have the I-551
March 4, 2018 at 15:14
So what would happen if, say for instance, in between the 6 months period between my medical and the deadline for me to enter the US and receive the I-551, my work here in the UK required me to go to the States for 2 weeks on a media trip. Could I specify that I wished to travel and return on my iVisa and activate my I-551 on a return trip?
March 4, 2018 at 15:16
No. YOur next entry is your activation.
March 4, 2018 at 15:17
Thanks for clarifying so quickly. Very much appreciated.
March 4, 2018 at 13:15
Dear Simone,
our DV was in 2017 after we finished the interview and everything , our papers went into administrative process for 6 months then we recieved our papers after that I emailed the embassy and this was their reply
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your email.
Please note that the DV program already ended and there was no visa numbers to offer you after your administrative process finalized due to lack of visa numbers so good luck in future programs.
What should I do ?? I mean is this even accpeted ?? its not my problem that you don’t have any visa number
March 4, 2018 at 14:28
We are sudanese and used to live in Dubai then we moved to egypt so our interview was in egypt
March 4, 2018 at 15:11
There is nothing you can do. The visa is not a right – and you were warned that visa numbers were limited.
March 4, 2018 at 15:36
ok this means I missed the lottery and that’s it the end .
March 4, 2018 at 15:44
Yes
March 4, 2018 at 15:04
Hello Brit, thank you for your great work!
I have a question and its regarding the USCIS payment, before I do the payment it asks me for my address, should I provide my current address which is in Lithuania or should it be my USA mailing address (its of my relatives, and I don’t plan to stay there for my arrival of green card, they will mail it for me to Lithuania when it arrives to them). Or can I just mark that I do not want to provide the mailing address, since I already provided it in my DS260.
Thanks once again, and have a great day!
March 4, 2018 at 15:17
I guess it is expecting the USA address.
March 4, 2018 at 17:02
Hi Brit!
As I read there is x-ray in the medical examination, since I’m smoker is this effecting?
March 4, 2018 at 20:07
No
March 4, 2018 at 17:26
Hi Brit,
Can I take a medical exam in other country then bring it back to the interview in my home country?
March 4, 2018 at 20:09
No. The physician needs on the approved list of the interviewing embassy.
March 4, 2018 at 22:16
Hey!
Would I need an Iranian police certificate although I have never lived there? I hold Iranian citizenship, but applied with my german citizenship. And I dont speak any persian and would have no clue how to get one… I hope I dont need it…
March 5, 2018 at 01:27
What do the instructions say?
March 5, 2018 at 10:01
well they say plice certiface of home country and whereever I lived for 6 months. But I dont know if Iran is also considered “home country” because I hold citizenship?
March 5, 2018 at 17:16
It is MUCH clearer than that. The instructions actually say you need a certificate from your country if nationality “if they resided there for more than 6 months”. You haven’t have you. So that is VERY clear. Please – READ the instructions properly.
March 5, 2018 at 04:02
Hey,
I received email after interview saying my DV lottery application has been accepted. I have temporary green card in my passport. My green card was “unable to be delivered” to the address in California. So I went online and updated a new address. It never arrived. So I contacted USCIS and KCC and the gentleman said it would be posted to new address by Feb 2018. Which it hasn’t been. And my status still says it was “undelivered” in sept of last year.
I have now emailed twice… and can’t get any information. Please help!!
Kindest,
Jane

I can’t suggest anything other than contacting USCIS again.

Hello brit I have some questions to ask I searched ur blog but couldn’t find any ans.
1 I have degree from Addis Ababa institute of technology, ethiopia in civil engineering. I have temporary certificate b/c I didn’t pay my cost sharing yet. Will they ask me for the original paid certificate on the interview day.
2 When filling the ds260 for I wrote education level university no degree since I was student back then. I was suppose to say that right? I have also added some short-term certificate courses is that good or should I remove them.
3 if I was granted and hopefully will be can I attend any university for IT degree course in US without problem. Thank u in advance.

Dear Simon,
How are you doing SIR? Hope you are OK.
I resubmitted my DS 260 form after KCC unlocked it for me for some revision on February 5, 2018.
On February 15, 2018 my father was passed away whom I filled on my DS 260 as he is alive.
Dear Simon what can I do? I have to unlock it again and update it OR I have to explain it to CO
About it?
My case no is 2018AF24XXX from Ethiopia.
Thanks in advance

Hi Brit. I have the interview in April 10. My sponsor hasn’t filed 2017 taxes yet. Can I take to the interview the affidavit of support with the 2016 taxes? Is there a rule or date for when the 2017 taxes are required
