Hello Simon,
We entered the US first time on our visa; we received our green cards a few weeks after that first entry, in the mean time we had left the US again to return to our home country to finalize things before our final move to the US. The green cards were mailed to our home country.
We are about to make a short orientation trip to the US. Through the airline, the question is asked: country of residence. Should we use US or home country address? When I use home country, the airline asks for ESTA or visa which I both don’t have.
So should we have filled out residence USA instead?
Your help is appreciated.

It doesn’t matter. Make a choice.
April 18, 2018 at 10:33
Hello Simon do both my wife avid I need to put our incomes on the I-134 form (as sponsors) or is it just one person. Our supporting tax return is married filing joint so it shows both our incomes. Thanks
April 18, 2018 at 14:18
List income from both – and supporting tax docs will prove that.
April 19, 2018 at 06:50
Thanks sir. When filling out the I-134 do I need to put both our names (wife and I) on the form (considering that the is only space for one name as the sponsor). Same for annual income and assets etc…should I put all joint info?
April 19, 2018 at 14:15
If there is space for one name – just put one name. Stop overthinking this simple form.

hello Brit I cant seem to find my immunization card from a baby, I am now 39 yrs old got some boosters, however, I have my interview on May 2 2018,please advise me will that be a problem or will I get to do the vaccines I need at the medical which I have booked for embassy in Barbados in April and do I have to pay for vaccines separately or is it covered in the cost of the medical?
April 18, 2018 at 14:05
The physician will determine what vaccinations you need and normally will administer them. There might be a fee for that.
April 18, 2018 at 13:42
Hi Brit
I have recived my visa and am planning on going to states this summer and I was just wondering If there is any chance that the USA government might provide a job or a place to stay
April 18, 2018 at 14:04
No! It’s not that sort of country!
April 18, 2018 at 14:59
What about education?
April 18, 2018 at 15:12
Education for children is provided for free. After 18, education is paid for by the student or their family. This is not a country where the government pays for things. You have an opportunity to come and work hard. You get what you work for.

Dear Sir, We are grateful to you for your tremendous help. I have a question. I am a DV2018 winner and hope to have my interview in August or September. I worked in Saudi Arabia since 1993 to 1996 and applied for a PCC back in August 2017. Still I didn’t receive it and when I inquire about it from our foreign ministry they informed me some times Saudi Police never send PCCs for some people. If I will not receive my PCC is there anything That I can do? Best regards
April 18, 2018 at 19:10
Hey wat ur case no
April 18, 2018 at 14:18
Dear Brit Simon, I appreciate your priceless effort for all of us (dv winners 2018) in our process. I am from Ethiopia…my question is I completed 12 grade and have Bsc Degree from university. I certified all the required document except my original degree because the responsible person to certify my original degree is out side of the country. his colleagues told me that no one can sign instead of him to certify your degree…my interview date is approaching… and I am pray to come soon Dear Brit, does it affect my visa during interview if I sit to the interview with out certifying my original degree?… Thanks in advance for your response

Hi BritSimon,
How can I check how many entrants were for specific country (Slovakia) in DV2018? I know how to check selectees but what about entrants? I wanna find out how big is the chance to win.
Thank you
April 18, 2018 at 21:10
We don’t have DV2018 entrants yet.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-program-statistics.html
April 19, 2018 at 00:57
In DV 2015 were 4,742 entrants and 110 selectees. If I count well it means 1:43 chance to win for Slovakia. That is pretty good don’t you think ? and DV2018 would be probably about the same, also DV2019.
April 19, 2018 at 01:05
That’s incorrect. The 110 includes derivatives. So of the 4742 there were about 70 winning cases. So it’s more like 1 in 70. I would say that’s unusually high for the region – so normally you would expect lower chances than that.
April 18, 2018 at 22:08
Good evening mr brit!
Well I saw an error on my vaccination documentation worksheet at my passport number. My questions are:
1: Will not this be an impact on the treatment of my drawing?
2: Can I report it to the doctor?
April 18, 2018 at 22:17
Discuss it with the doctor.
April 19, 2018 at 00:35
I have received second letter today for June interview. But my wife name is not mentioned in beneficiary name as I have already unlocked the DS260 on Dec 2017, updated all details of wife and resubmit it on Jan 2018 itself. What to do in this case ? Looking for your Help #Helppost
April 19, 2018 at 01:05
You married after the intial entry I assume – in that case it is normal.
April 19, 2018 at 03:47
Yes I got married on Dec 11 2017 and unlocked the DS260 form and update all the details of my wife also. But my wife name is not included in second letter. Do I need to do anything in this case ?
April 19, 2018 at 04:38

April 19, 2018 at 02:45

April 19, 2018 at 01:30
NB: he is in original country
April 19, 2018 at 01:38

April 19, 2018 at 03:27
Erandi, if you are not scheduled, unlock d260 and mention Balasooriya as your other name. And use unicode and fill “the name in native language” Better to have an affidavit too.
April 19, 2018 at 04:39
Do whatever you feel would help.
April 19, 2018 at 06:00

April 19, 2018 at 11:03
Hi Brit,
I received an email from embassy with the required documents to bring on the interview. We chose Sydney embassy consulate for our interview as we are living in australia as a permanent resident( not citizen). The checklist ask you to bring australian citizenship certificate which we are not. Does this mean they do not process DV visas other than australian citizen ? I remember when i filled up DS260 it gives you an option to select embassy nearest to you which in our case was Sydney ?
Im bit confused . Any idea ?
Thanks in advance
Rgds

April 19, 2018 at 14:03
It is fine to interview there. Take proof of how you are staying in Australia.
April 19, 2018 at 11:05
Hi Brit, I went from AP to READY I do not quite understand this change
April 19, 2018 at 14:01
Patience. It might mean AP is ending – so the next status change will be the outcome.
May 14, 2018 at 09:22
hey @[email protected] is there any update in your visa status? we are in the same boat. Our status also changed from AP to ready.
April 19, 2018 at 11:41
hi Brit I am qualified with two degrees and all required documents in hand for interview… but I am confused that which of my documents should be authenticated? all my documents are in English and Amharic(our local language)…should all be translated?
April 19, 2018 at 14:01
Read the instructions. Sthentication is normally not necessary. The instructions cover translations.
April 19, 2018 at 11:45

April 19, 2018 at 14:22
Dear Brit
I sent you a question on April 11, 2018 around 3:08 pm
but i cannot find the answer.
to repeat the question
I am from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
my original entry was Nuri Adamu Bekele
But when the post office sent the entry they sent it
Nura Adamu Bekele
I sent the DS-260 the correct one ie Nuri Adamu Bekele
will this create any problem? all my documents are written
as Nuri Adamu Bekele
Nuri
April 19, 2018 at 14:39
Normally no problem.
April 19, 2018 at 14:20
Read my recent post about that!
April 19, 2018 at 14:39

Hi Brit. Hope you’re doing great,

Yes
April 19, 2018 at 15:11
Dear Simon, as we’re waiting for DV lottery 2019 this May, if I win What can I do to let my Interview be soon than others?
April 19, 2018 at 16:18
1. It’s a lottery – with a small chance of selection.
2. You don’t choose when you interview. You wait your turn, as determined by your case number.
April 19, 2018 at 23:35
Many Thanks!
I was thinking that when you complete the DS260 early your interview will be early too!
April 19, 2018 at 16:26
Dear Simon,
I lost my passport and in the middle of creating new one (takes 2 week time).
Can i use my old expired passport (year 2004) while submitting DS260 form?
My idea is to bring the new passport later when interviewed.
Problem is I can’t proceed with error “•Expiration Date: cannot be earlier than today.”
Should I ‘lie’ and type 2018 instead?
April 19, 2018 at 16:42
Why lie??? To save 2 weeks?? Wait.
April 19, 2018 at 16:31
Hello , I have a question
My family won the lottery and my mom was the winner and my father and brothers were with her , I mean she is the main applicant , so my question is does she has to enter the United States first before them after the visa is issued or it doesnt matter who enter first ?!
April 19, 2018 at 16:41
The winner must enter WITH the derivatives OR BEFORE them.
April 19, 2018 at 17:36
My mom doesnt speak English very well she knows little things only , is she going to face anyproblems in the airport ? And how can she communicate with them ? Is it a problem there ? Also is there any further processes in the airport ??
April 19, 2018 at 17:57
It’s a simple process – and they are used to people not speaking much English – but she will have to put in some common sense and effort.
April 19, 2018 at 18:57
Is there any process in the airport for the lottery or she just enter the USA ?
April 19, 2018 at 19:07
There is a brief process at immigration. She won’t be asked many if any questions.
April 19, 2018 at 18:58
I mean what is the process ??
April 19, 2018 at 16:40
Reading some posts on your great blog now has me 10000% CONVINCED that people don’t even read the official rules of the dv lottery or the numerous posts you took so much time and effort to write because there is no reason why 80% of the questions are even asked to this day…
April 19, 2018 at 17:14
Please Mr brit,I want to know the meaning of the ceac status READY even though I have already attended the interview.thank you
April 19, 2018 at 17:22
Typically it means the embassy have not updated your status yet. Stop looking at the status. Patience.
April 19, 2018 at 18:08
Hi Brit, please can you answer what do you think about 26… case numbers for EU about quene?
April 19, 2018 at 19:08
Wait and see…. really.
April 19, 2018 at 19:14
As I remember CN EU26xxx was not an issue… since now. It was a ok number, but now it is wait and see…
April 19, 2018 at 19:17
Correct. As time has gone on, issued rate has climbed faster than expected and pace is slower than expected.
April 19, 2018 at 19:31
But there approx 3000 visas left for Europe, or? Thanks! for your quick reply like always!
April 19, 2018 at 19:45
If all 1446 + 4139 would be approved + 10963 already issued, then it is even less then 3000 visas left. But the ready cases stay at least 30% ready till the end, then we have around 3000 left.
April 19, 2018 at 20:26
Well not all the ready and AP will be issued – but yes – there is a limit of visas left.
April 20, 2018 at 21:11
this is wrong calculation, thats not how it works
April 21, 2018 at 16:33
@ Luka, what is a good calculation, how does it works then?
April 21, 2018 at 21:53
i dont have the exact answer either but all those AP visas wont be issued at the same time, plus there will always be around 1400 ap visas even when the lottery for this year is over. as for those ready visas, they wont all be approved, and maybe 20% of those 4000 wont even show up for the interview. i hope that gives you some idea how many different factors are involved.. best is to just wait for the next bulletin in may and things should be a lot clearer. good luck
April 19, 2018 at 20:58
Ok, thanks, it is clear, the cut off will be less than CN 26K…
April 19, 2018 at 21:50
Hi brit. I have find a sponsor but he is in USA for 4 years. It is ok with that or he must be living in USA from 5years to up. Thnx
April 19, 2018 at 22:04
After getting the visa, I want make short visit to another countery ( Uganda ) before moving to the USA .will that cause any problem ?I have been there before and I have it’s valid visa ,police cert which is valid for 6 months and I used it during my interview .
April 19, 2018 at 22:37
No problem.
April 19, 2018 at 23:45

April 20, 2018 at 00:10
hello Simon quick question,I have my interview on the 2nd of May 2018 the passport data on the system has expired I now have a new one for both my son and I should I print the DS260 form as is and just walk with my current updated passport to the interview
Also I have to register online for the interview in the embassy in Barbados it is an immigrant visa right and not a K visa/
They are requesting passport information should I put the data for my new passport or that of the old one?
April 20, 2018 at 02:58
Use your best judgement. I have not used their system.
April 20, 2018 at 01:10
By the way what is the DS 260 number please?I am trying to complete my online registration for my interview.
April 20, 2018 at 02:56
It is on the confirmation page of the DS260.
April 20, 2018 at 03:16
Hi Brit sir greetings.we had an interview on 16th of April. Interview went well. The interviewer told it is successful n documents are good but one document was missing there so they told us to submit that document and passports to the bank. We did it asap what they told. Now our case case shows AP. For how long we have to wait and how to know our Visa is approved or not. Thank u
April 20, 2018 at 13:55
I cannot predict that.
April 20, 2018 at 01:50
To your opinion please is AF 46000 risky?Thank you
April 20, 2018 at 02:51
Yes – it is in the risk range – and always has been.
April 20, 2018 at 04:33
My Wife’s Number is becoming current this May and I am also a derivative applicant.
Now, my Wife is a grad student (on an F1 Student Visa) and she is graduating this June. Come May 1st, we are going to send our AOS Packages (for her and Myself).
1) Do we mail the two AOS Packages separately or could/should they be together? My current assumption is as long as they’re properly compiled in two separate folders/bundles (one folder containing all of her documents and the other folder containing all of my documents), then they can still be mailed together?
Also, my Wife will need to apply for OPT Work Authorization, using Form I-765. She can start applying for OPT as soon as 90 days prior to her graduation or as late as 60 days after her graduation.
2) Will applying for this OPT separately from the AOS Application cause any conflict with our AOS Applications?
I notice that there is also an option to apply for Work Authorization with/through this AOS Application but we feel that applying through her F1 Visa (OPT Route) may be a little bit safer as it would also extend her F1 Visa Validity by another year, upon approval of the OPT. OPT is valid for a year. So in case our AOS Application moves a bit slower than expected and if we receive our GCs only in July/Aug/Sept, at least her F1 Visa validity would be extended beyond June (because of the OPT Approval).
3) Do you think we are making the right move, with regards to applying for Work Authorization through F1 instead of AOS?
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks again for everything you’ve done for all of us!
April 20, 2018 at 13:55
I see you have got Mom’s input – she is the expert. Make sure you have studied her spreadsheet.
April 20, 2018 at 05:10
I had my interview done 6 months ago.now for more than a month my case status shows as ready, but still I was not scheduled for my next interview to get my documents Back.what shall I do now
April 20, 2018 at 13:51
Contact the embassy.
April 20, 2018 at 07:35
Hi,

Thanks in idvance.
April 20, 2018 at 13:51
Be as truthful as you possibly can. If they find you are telling half a truth – they could think you are concealing something.
April 20, 2018 at 08:20
Hi brits.
My names in ds260 are Mburu Henry Macharia but in my high school certificates my names are like this..Muthoni Henery Macharia. But when submitting my ds260 there is somewhere they ask whether one i have used other names i said yes and i wrote…MUTHONI HENERY MACHARIA. Will that cause any problem during my interview which is on may 10.
I am in kenya.
Thank you
April 20, 2018 at 13:45
Normally this won’t cause a problem as long as your case is otherwise good.
