Hi Brit,
I want to apply for DV2021 (this will be my 3rd year applying). I filed for a divorce in February this year and my lawyer says the divorce was granted in April, but because there’s a misunderstanding between judges (?), they haven’t still produced the corresponding documents of my divorce.
The “problem” is I got married in the US, but filed for a divorce in Argentina, my country of birth, because I was living there at the moment. The Argentinian judge is saying they should transcribe the divorce in the US, and in the US they are like “no, we don’t do that”. So basically the Argentinian judge doesn’t know anything about laws, resulting in me not having my divorce papers.
I asked my lawyer what my REAL status was and she said I am LEGALLY divorced…. but I basically have no proof because I still don’t have the papers, and they don’t know how long it’s going to take to get them….
The question is…. should I enter the DV2021 as divorced? I know you’ll say that is what I should do. But I’m worried about not having documents to prove it if I happen to win (1 in a million chances, I know, but I want to do things right). My lawyer said that in that case, she could ask the judge to produce a paper saying I am divorced, but it won’t be a proper divorce certificate.
Or I’m worried that if I enter the lottery as divorced and then when I get the divorce papers, they write another date (let’s say December 2020), that will mean I will be disqualified if I win, because I will have entered incorrect information.
Sorry for the long explanation, I basically don’t know what marital status I should choose… 🙁 I don’t want them to think I am lying either way. I am “supposed” to be divorced… but without papers.
Thanks in advance.
September 17, 2019 at 20:33
I a not in a position to tell you whether you are divorced or not. Your lawyer should be able to confirm that.
September 18, 2019 at 08:08
Right. So I guess the question would be… IF I happened to win… will they ask for the divorce certificate? or will a paper from a judge suffice? I know it’s a very random question, sorry for that. Again, I want to avoid them thinking I was lying in the first place if I am unable to produce a proper divorce certificate.
September 18, 2019 at 16:14
They will ask for the divorce “papers” (whatever that means in your country).
September 17, 2019 at 14:04

September 17, 2019 at 21:10
It depends what option you selected for the SSN in your DS260.
September 17, 2019 at 21:13
Hi there Brit,
I was wondering if you have an idea in what time frame I can expect an email from KCC to forward them “additional documents”. My case number is EU31xxx. I completed the ds260 form a couple days after the results from the dv2020 lottery were published.
September 17, 2019 at 22:01
There is no way to predict when they will ask for documents.
September 18, 2019 at 01:38
Hello Britsimon and any one. AF 2020 9xxx Im feeling the DS 260 now and having trouble with this Please provide the following information on all addresses you lived at since turning sixteen. Begin with your address immediately before your current address. I lived in different address I started with the address where I lived since the age of 16 and going up to where I live now . I also try starting with the adress where I live now and going down to where I live before until the age of 16 but I’m still having this Red message “Please correct all areas in error as indicated below. Once you have finished, click ‘Save’ or ‘Next’ to continue completing your online application form.
There is a gap greater than a month in the dates you have provided since the date you turned sixteen. Please include ALL addresses where you have lived since the date you turned 16 years old.” Please can someone help me how to go about this question. Thanks
September 18, 2019 at 01:49
You start with your previous address, and go backwards.
September 18, 2019 at 02:31
Hell Britsimon Thank you for the reply 2020AF9xxx . Present address: started Sep 2018. Turned 16 since 26 Sept 1998. Here is what I put: Addresse 1) From Sep 2017 to Sept 2018 .
2) from May 2012 to Sept 2017. 3) from Sept 2011 to May 2012. 4) from Sept 1998 to September 2011. But it still give this message “There is a gap greater than a month in the dates you have provided since the date you turned sixteen.” I can not continue the DS as it is telling me to correct this.
September 18, 2019 at 02:43
That looks OK – I suspect you have a month or yer wrong somewhere.
Try making the start date earlier.
September 18, 2019 at 05:16

September 18, 2019 at 10:34
Hello Britsimon and all,
For information . Ouce case no. is EU5XXX. DS260 has been submitted on Sep 10 and after 6 days i.e. Sep 16 recieved email to submit scanned documents. It was so quick.
September 18, 2019 at 16:07
Cool.
September 18, 2019 at 11:31
Guys, visa bulletin out for the october and november months.
September 18, 2019 at 12:39
Find the sentence of “this will result in reduction of the dv2020 annual limit to approximately 54650” in oct visa bulletin, is that mean the 5000 quota for NACARA PROGRAM will be released 4650 for dv2020
September 18, 2019 at 12:58
Yeah that was good for all the DV2020 83k entries and their derivatives.
September 18, 2019 at 14:19
Does that mean only 55k will be acceptable out of 83k? So 28k will be rejected?
September 18, 2019 at 15:53
@Ala.
Some don’t apply, some are rejected. This is normal.
September 18, 2019 at 17:00
Thanks Simon for all your support, I have a high number that is why I am asking, AS26XXX
September 18, 2019 at 19:11
I understand, but there are enough visas this year. 83K is a LOW number of selectees.
September 18, 2019 at 16:04
Yes – but that was already known from the 1NLs for DV2020.
September 18, 2019 at 12:46
Hi Britsimon. Could you please tell us the visa bulletin for AS region Nepal september 2019. Thank You.
September 18, 2019 at 16:04
September? That was published a couple of months ago.
September 18, 2019 at 14:21
DV 2021 instructions – https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Diversity-Visa/DV-Instructions-Translations/DV-2021-Instructions-Translations/DV-2021-Instructions-English.pdf
September 18, 2019 at 14:45
Ha – well done for spotting it – I guess you were watching the link also!
September 18, 2019 at 15:24
Does it mean that 4650 visa will be available for dv 2020 or for nacara program?
September 18, 2019 at 15:44
Huh?
September 18, 2019 at 15:53
I was asking there are 54650 visa available for dv 2020 or 50000 as other years? Thank you
September 18, 2019 at 16:10
Will the 5000 NACARA visas now go to all the the other participant countries in the dv2020? It says 54650 visas in the bulletin.
September 18, 2019 at 16:38
Yes – it’s an increase in the overall allocation, so it is shared out to each region.
September 18, 2019 at 15:24

Yes.
September 18, 2019 at 15:53
Hi Brit
Just a quick question. In a situation where my girlfriend is pregnant and we’re not married yet. I’m planning on marrying her probably before the year ends 2019. So once we’re legally married with all the documents, i was planning on unlocking my ds260 and adding her to it. Now, my CN dv2020 OC20** and i might not be current till 8 months or more time from today. So in this case, if we do get an interview before the baby is born (my gf would be a month this month), how do i go about this?
Obviously i would need to notify the CO about this at the time of the interview. Do you think IF everything goes well and we’d get a GC, would the GC also include the unborn baby too?
Note: We’ve been together more than 2years now and we can prove that we’re in a Real relationship.
September 18, 2019 at 22:14
I have FAQ entries on adding a spouse and a newborn. Read those to get the full picture
September 18, 2019 at 15:54
Dear Brit, my CN is EU7***, so I am going to get an interview in December right? Do I need to get my I-134 e.g. next month, or better wait till 2nd NL.
Thank you very much Sir.
September 18, 2019 at 15:58

September 18, 2019 at 16:01

September 18, 2019 at 16:16
Have any deadline, I must be submitted and get the interview on time Jan 2020
September 18, 2019 at 16:34
You should submit your DS260 immediately then.
September 18, 2019 at 16:28
Hey Brit, am a DV 2020 winner, i really appreciate you sparing time to respond to our queries. Thanks a bunch.
One query though, if you at all have any idea, at what point/ stage does KCC do a background check on an applicant. Could it be after ds260 submission or required document submission? Any idea?
Regards,
September 18, 2019 at 16:39
There are checks at various stages, including after the DS260 submission.
September 18, 2019 at 16:42
Thanks for the quick response.
September 18, 2019 at 18:08

September 18, 2019 at 21:53

September 18, 2019 at 22:09

September 18, 2019 at 22:22

September 18, 2019 at 22:25

September 18, 2019 at 22:27
Hi Sir,

September 18, 2019 at 22:49
Couldn’t find any info???? Read the FAQ.
September 19, 2019 at 04:05
Hi Brit. letting you know that I received document submission email day before yesterday I am AS7XXX . Thanks for your guidance all the time.
As they say, there’s no necessity to certify docs as True copies (except translators seal) Is that correct?
September 19, 2019 at 04:18
That depends on country specific instructions – so read those.
September 19, 2019 at 05:30
Hi,
r u from Sri Lanka?
I think Sri Lankan does not need to certify docs you can check with “Atlan” in forum
https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2020-sri-lankan-winners.341572/
He also received kcc email and he already sent that docs .
September 19, 2019 at 18:32
Thanks Janz..
September 19, 2019 at 12:22
Please refer the reciprocity page for Sri Lanka here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/SriLanka.html
No need for certified photocopies. You need to get the birth certificates from the relevant DS offices with the signature and the seal of the additional registrar. Get them translated by a sworn translator appointed by the Ministry of Justice. Get the police clearance online via https://eservices.police.lk/ClearanceCertificate/home.action if you haven’t done already. Scan and send them.
September 19, 2019 at 18:32
Hi yes I am from SL, thanks a lot for sharing these. I have got my Birth certificate translated. (anyway I did not understand your point on obtaining birth certificate from DS office, probably you did explain the normal procedure we get a original copy of our b.certificate right?) so I has an original with me and I presented that to the translator and he has made it based on that.
Apart from that I have received police cert by post (hard copy ) and have get scanned copies of all these. I was thinking to get these certified as true copies but as you said it’s not needed. So I am good to go thank again
September 19, 2019 at 23:39
Yes, that’s correct regarding birth certificates. The one DS office gives has a clause saying it’s an extract of the original birth register so no need to get it certified by another party.

Hi sir,
thanks for your kind support,
I am DV 2020 AS 22xxx,
yesterday I request to unlock DS 260 fom, and today morning I got email that my ds260 is unlocked, same day after noon I received an email from KCC for document submition, how ever my case number is very high and still I didn’t resubmit my unlocked Ds260 form,
so
can I send all my document now and resubmit Ds260 form latter?
or should I wait to send documents after ds260 is completed?
thanks you
September 19, 2019 at 14:21
Either way is fine. No need to rush because you have to wait for your case number anyway…
September 19, 2019 at 13:20
Hi Simon,
I wondered if I can travel to Canada only with my passport and the endorsed IV.
Thank you.
September 19, 2019 at 13:38
I don’t know.
September 19, 2019 at 14:48
How Do you explain that AS has gone so far with the email that request documents submission? Someone claim here that has received the email with cn 22k.
September 19, 2019 at 15:57
Nothing to explain. There is no problem with that. Those cases still have to wait for their case number to be current.
September 19, 2019 at 14:06
Hy Britsimon
I recently got married after submitting documents to kcc, and i unlocked ds-260 and added my spouse.
1. Does it create problem for 2NL ?
2. My wife is 18 yrs old, does it affcet the interview ?
3.do i need to submit marriage certificate to kcc or i have to take it to the interview ?
Thank you in advance.
September 19, 2019 at 14:28
1. No
2. No
3. You need to send the required documents for BOTH of you to KCC, so contact them KCC to inform them of the change.
September 28, 2019 at 07:48
HEY Brit,
I want my wife to join me at a later date after the 2years she’s finalising with her books and other stuff.
what should I do to her unlocked ds-260?
1.re-submit it?
2. don’t send documents?
3 both 1&2?
September 28, 2019 at 14:54
Email and don’t send her documents.
September 28, 2019 at 15:57
Okay, what do you mean by emailing them?
Are you trying to mean I submit her ds-260 or I email them and let them know that I’m not going with her.
Please clarify.
September 28, 2019 at 16:46
Correct. Because otherwise they will consider your documents incomplete. So you have to explain. Common sense really.
September 19, 2019 at 14:08
Hi all,

Hey Simmon I won a greencard back in 2017 then by the end of 2018 I checked the status and I had been selected….I filled the DS-260 form later I received an email requesting for more documents…I scanned and sent them but up to now I have not recieved an email to schedule my interview …I understand the greencard expire by the end of this month..what could be the problem?
September 19, 2019 at 20:36
I don’t know when you sent your documents You might have been contacted, but missed the email – I really have no way to know. The problem is that the year is about to end, so you have probably lost your opportunity.
September 19, 2019 at 18:33
Hello everyone,
I just want to bring my contribution about experiences I learnt from relatives.
DV2010: my sister attended interview and they were put in AP December 2009 and they got visa in September 28, 2010.
DV2016: a boy in my square did interview alone and was put AP then CO ask him to drop passport but finally he stayed AP till it expires.
I met a lady through friend, she got married with a man and they filled forms they attended interview together, they were putted in AP and the last day September 30 they approved her husband and they told the lady her husband will fill after.
DV2019: a neighbour and his wife did interview in December 2018 and put AP in January 2019 they got it.
About DV lottery nothing is sure and nothing is over till the end, and writing the embassy or not for your case won’t speed up the processing.
All winners should stop repeating questionnaires because you are waisting his time. He is un mais, let’s try to read FAQ.
If I hurt someone, please excuse me.
Kindly

Hi Britsimon,
My wife has CN 2020AS9XXX (Nepal). Some guys with lower CN from my country claimed that they have received emails for documents submission and we are worrying why aren’t we getting one. Is there anything that we need to do? Or is it normal? We know it is still couple of months away to go our CN current. We just want to relief ourselves, as you know better on these things.
Thanks

I meant to say ‘Higher’, I slipped with ‘lower’ case number. I know you will understand.
September 19, 2019 at 20:38
It’s normal – nothing to worry about.

Here are people who have been trying for three years from AS region and haven’t been selected ones. Then hope for a second draw, knowing which won’t happen in real. People like you are lucky getting selected twice. Sad though you couldn’t make it due to circumstances. Hope all get a chance in the right time.

Hi Brit
My case is AS9xxx from Iran with dual citizenship.
Estimated Jan-Feb interview time frame according to your prediction
I am trying to postpone my interview because of my work situation by late submission of the requested documents but at the same time because of longer and unpredictable AP process for Iranians, i might risk my file if i wait too long.
What is your suggestion?

Hello Sir
2019 DV winner.
We are a family of four, 3 were interviewed on September 8 and my daughter was interviewed on September 12, all cases were approved, however, the visa statue at CEAC website keeps on changing every day, from Ready to AP and to Ready again then Issued to 3 of us except my son then ready to all of us then again AP to all of us, and we were told our visa will be ready in 10 days time. I want to know what’s happening exactly why they keep on changing?? what is your advise?
September 20, 2019 at 22:25
My advise is stop looking at the status. You cannot tell what it means – so stop driving yourself crazy looking at the time…
Patience.

Good day BritSimon.
I was denied a tourist visa in October 2018.
When filling the DS260 form there is a question that says have you ever been denied a visa to the US. Will it be correct if i answer YES to that question.
Will be grateful if you could help me with this answer.
Thanks.
September 20, 2019 at 19:31
You must answer yes and give the reason why the CO rejected you. They already have that information in their data base so lying will disqualify you. Tell truth always as he adviced us
September 20, 2019 at 19:39
Thanks Tandetat,
I will definately answer YES, just wanted a confirmation.
But no reason was given. Infact the counsellor never said anything she just handed me a paper which stated that i didnt meet all the requirements for a tourist visa n so my visa cant be granted. But i can always apply back after 6months if i still wish to.
Thanks

A friend also for the same thing in 2007 je was rejected under 214(b). He got married in 2016 his wife won dv2017 but it was the same I told him. He is already in USA since. Good luck
September 20, 2019 at 22:55
So i should just answer YES and avoid given reasons because no reason was given to me
September 20, 2019 at 22:31
Answer yes.

Hi britsimon, CN DV 2020AF69***From Egypt, I have 2 questions: should I fill DS260 or I have to wait because my CN is high? Is still risk for high CN in Egypt?
Thank you
September 20, 2019 at 17:11
Good evening I am delighted by the fact. Passport is mandatory when registering. And in addition I suggest to put an option in the form to require us to scan the Passport. this is one of the best ways to reduce the frocks
September 20, 2019 at 22:32
Yes there is some risk for your case because of your high number (for Egypt).
At some point you will need to decide what to do. I suggest you wait a few months until we know more.

Thank you

Hello Simon
Please i need your help and support for the below questions:
-1 i got a technical vocational Diploma in industrial electro mechanic and after several years of hard working and promotion , i am working now in managing position for industrial manufacturing project and engineering. My question is in the DS form there is a question what you attend to work in USA and i have to select one choice from provide list, can i select engineering which is the nearest field suit my skills and experience even if i am not holding engineer diploma. As before i was planing to answer ” i will do any legal job” but i found it not logic why i give such answer while i am having 15 years of experience in one of the technical field.
2- My case no AS24XX and i have not submitted yet my DS do i still have time regardless of the notice sheet they have announced recently which it include my number.
3- regarding social Media shall provide the link of my profile or just the names as it appear there.
4- Regarding Vaccination question should i answer no because i have not got any vaccination yet as per american standards.
Thanks alot

1. Answer whatever TRUTHFUL answer you think makes sense.
2. Yes you have time if you prefer to delay your interview.
3. Provide what the questions asks for.
4. Correct.
