Greetings Simon,
I hope you are doing well. I have been selected for DV lottery 2018 from Afghanistan. When I filled out my form DS-260, I didn’t put my passport number because I didn’t have a passport at that time. Do you think this will affect/delay the processing of my DS-260 form? Thank you very much for your advice!
August 1, 2017 at 15:00
No – but when you have the passport, unlock and update it.
August 1, 2017 at 19:51
Thanks so much BRIGHT Simon, just one more question, my friend helped me with filling out my DS-260 from the U.S. but he didn’t provide his name and other information to explain that he assisted me with filling out my form. Is that a problem? Also, Can KCC tell what country the the DS-260 form has been submitted from?
August 1, 2017 at 18:33
I want my son almost 18yrs to follow us later .he is part of our entrant.
How can I do it?
August 1, 2017 at 18:36
How much later?
August 1, 2017 at 19:25
After we get visa n go to U.S.
August 1, 2017 at 19:54
If you want my help, answer the questions accurately!!! How long after (weeks, months, years – HOW LONG!)?
August 1, 2017 at 20:22
Sorry sir.I means after six months.
August 2, 2017 at 00:00
So – that means you will have to sponsor your son through family based immigration – and that will take 2 years and is more complicated and expensive than DV.
August 1, 2017 at 19:09

Hi Brit thank you for your amazing site as it helped us greatly. we came in on Saturday 23 July. for now all is well and we thank God for that. please what i want to know is that when we filled our form our affidavit of support is in Maryland but we ended up staying in Virginia so what i want to know is this, can we file in for our social security number in Virginia here or do we need to go all the way Maryland to process it as that the address we stated on our form that we will be staying. i.e Maryland but since we now staying in Virginia is it possible for us to do it here in Virginia rather than Maryland cos some people advised us that if we do it in Virginia here rather than Maryland there will be some delay in the process
August 1, 2017 at 19:56
You can process the SSN anywhere. You can live anywhere.
August 1, 2017 at 20:16
Ok thank you
August 1, 2017 at 21:14
Hi Brit,
Please help me. Im about to fill.ds260 but i dont know what i need to answer on the Previous U.S. travel question “have you ever been in the US?” I’ve worked in Saipan way back 1992 to 1995 thats why my kids are U.S citizen and now my son is my petitioner. Can i considered Saipan as my U.S travel. During those time we don’t have any visa issued.
Highly appreciate your answer.Regards
August 1, 2017 at 23:58
Considering the US citizen child, it would be wise to say yes (even though that is not strictly true). Then provide details. At least then the CO can make up their own mind.
August 1, 2017 at 22:09
Thanks so much Dear Simon, just one more question, my friend helped me with filling out my DS-260 from the U.S. but he didnโt provide his name and other information to explain that he assisted me with filling out my form. Is that a problem? Also, Can KCC tell what country the the DS-260 form has been submitted from?
August 1, 2017 at 23:56
It is no problem.
August 1, 2017 at 23:03
Hello Simon,
When i check my case status on CEAC, it only shows case 01 and case 02, and i have two derivatives, so i guess it should show 03 cases.
Do you know why that happens?
Thank you!
August 1, 2017 at 23:28
It can happen where you added a spouse/child after initial entry – OR a child has aged out.
August 1, 2017 at 23:33
Thank you!
My son is 21 years old, so it means that he shouldn’t attend to the interview? or what? because he appears in my 2NL.
August 1, 2017 at 23:59
Sorry to bother you, is there a probleme if my son doesnยดt attend? I mean with my husband and i
August 2, 2017 at 00:02
Your son cannot get a Green card if he doesn’t attend the interview OR if he has aged out. For a short period of time after his 21st birthday he can still be treated as a child, but once that period is over he cannot be given a Green Card. Sponsoring him later will take a number of years.
August 2, 2017 at 00:13
Thank you, but if he is in that shor period he should appear on CEAC? because two days after i received my 2nl he appeared in my case status but now he doesn’t.
August 2, 2017 at 00:16
The embassies often remove the over 21s from CEAC
August 2, 2017 at 00:20
ok, even if they are in that period, right?
August 2, 2017 at 15:35
Sometimes, yes.
August 2, 2017 at 01:51
Hy Brit! Im a dv 2018 winner from South America. We are a party of five in which me and my 3 kids have also the Italian Passports. My husband has also the Italian Citizenship but by the time we completed the dv260 he didn’t have the italian passport, he will have it in about 1 month. By the time he gets his Italian Passport, do you think we should unlock to write its number down or wait until if we are asked at the interview? Thanks a lot!
August 2, 2017 at 15:34
You can discuss at the interview.
August 2, 2017 at 17:30
Thank you very much for your answer!!
August 2, 2017 at 09:11

there visa have been expired 2 months ago now

August 2, 2017 at 15:25
Yes
August 2, 2017 at 18:08
Hi Brit
I thought they can’t stay outside the US more than the validity of their first 1 year visa
We have been told at after their first entry in the US they have to come back before the 1 ST 1 year visa epired
please help
Thanks
August 2, 2017 at 18:52
I already answered.
August 2, 2017 at 11:01
Brit, can I sponsor my son to come in three months after we travel to U.S.
Is it possible n how to go about it?
August 2, 2017 at 15:23
In the DV process, you would each get a visa with up to 6 months to enter the USA. If you include your son in your DV process – he could come within that timeline – he could also enter for a short period and leave the country for up to one year.
If on the other hand you don’t include him in the DV process – it will take around 2 years to sponsor him. I don’t advise on that other process – and consider it very foolish to do that instead of using the GIFT that is the DV process.
August 2, 2017 at 12:51
hello I want to know when will the visa bulletin of DV2018 start?

August 2, 2017 at 12:52
Hi Brit, I’m nearing three months now on AP no call. Will it be ok write KCC asking them about the status of my case?
Thanks
August 2, 2017 at 15:11
KCC don’t know anything about your case once they handed it to the embassy.
August 2, 2017 at 13:29
Our case is under AP and very soon our medical examination goes to be expired.
If i clear my AP they will ask us to repeat the medical examination.
My question is ;
who is going to pay the bill (the repeat medical examination fees) ?
August 2, 2017 at 15:10
You.
August 2, 2017 at 15:30
Hello
Got selected for DV 2018 from SA. i filled out my DS 260 form back in May. As i read your post here was wondering about the education. should i have list all my education eg elementary, High school back from my birth country. I just listed high school i attended here in canada and my college education here. should i re-open my DS 260 form and enter it. Also on the DS 260 form it have vocational school and in canada we have college or university would vocational school consider college in the US or university?
Thank you.
August 2, 2017 at 17:50
Vocational programs do not meet the requirement of the DV program. You should list all education since about age 12.
August 2, 2017 at 15:36
Hello,
Does ”primary occupation” stand for ”current” or the core one in terms of earned qualifications/experience?
Thank you
August 2, 2017 at 17:36
Current work that pays the bills.
August 2, 2017 at 15:42

I will get the copy of the certificate from the university .my question is does it affect my interview with the recent new copy of charater certificate .
August 2, 2017 at 17:36
I don’t know.
August 2, 2017 at 16:28
Hi Brit, hope you are well.
Just saw Sen. Cotton introduce the RAISE Act to the Senate.
I would like to know your thoughts on that, will it pass?? Considering it eliminates the D.V Program.
August 2, 2017 at 17:32
Wait and see.
August 3, 2017 at 10:56
Will it effect the winner of dv lottery 2018?
August 3, 2017 at 12:14
I donโt believe the Raise act will be passed.
August 4, 2017 at 05:18
Thank you…hope for best.
And what do you think will effect 2018 winner will be effected if passed
August 7, 2017 at 01:08
How is the status of my dvlottery 2018 winner
August 2, 2017 at 17:31
Hi, I am checking in for my flight to the US on United. This is my “activation trip” when I try to check in it asks “Citizen status” and there are 3 options 1) US citizen 2) Non-US Citizen Residence (here it asks for alien card number & expiry) or 3) citizen of another country.
Should I select number 2 and enter the details stamped on the visa in my passport or just wait and check in at the airport?
August 2, 2017 at 17:37
No – 3.
August 2, 2017 at 18:15
Hi Simon,what is activation?
August 2, 2017 at 18:51
A DV winner, if approved at interview gets a temporary immigrant visa (valid for up to 6 months). The winner must enter the USA before that visa expires to “activate” their LPR status (Green Card Holder).
August 3, 2017 at 04:20
After I have been approved, they sent me the visa and sealed envelope which I have to give to an officer at my first entry point in the US. There is also a paper which gives some information what todo and what not. In the paper there is an information which states that the Green card and the SSN will be mailed after 3 months and 2weeks respectively. Once I reached to the USA, people told me to apply for the SSN which I did but I am simply waiting for the GC ad stated in the paper. This is what I have done. Can we take this as an activation?
August 3, 2017 at 05:12
Yes. Relax.
August 3, 2017 at 05:54
Hi Brits
Am a winner of the dv2018 lottery from South Africa. I consider my case number to be high as it is around 41xxx. My question is do I stand a chance of being interviewed?

August 2, 2017 at 18:40
Dear Simon
I just saw that Trump has announced the Raise Act. I habe got the Visa in my passport from the Embassy, but i did not activate my greencard yet. Does this announcement affect me? Thanks for your help.
August 2, 2017 at 18:48
No
August 2, 2017 at 21:52
If it is passed, would it eliminate future DV lotteries meaning no DV 2019 or would it also eliminate DV 2018 all together??? In your understanding please.
August 2, 2017 at 22:11
It would depend on when it was passed as a law – but given that I don’t think it stands a chance, I can’t be bothered to speculate about something I don’t think will happen.
August 3, 2017 at 06:00
Thnx Brit..
August 2, 2017 at 19:47
Hi Britt, My wife is pregnant that is sufficient justification for not getting the vaccines ??? Or how I should do before the interview
August 2, 2017 at 20:06
The doctor will decide what vaccinations are needed and appropriate in her condition.
August 3, 2017 at 00:52
Hello Simon, we completed the ds260 nform,I added my spouse, was he supposed to fill another form too? Because I do not see any derivatives on the list, only the applicant.
August 3, 2017 at 01:06
I assume you married after the initial entry. Yes he needs to complete a form. You use the add applicant button.
August 3, 2017 at 01:38
Hi Brit,
Stephen Miller announced the Trump administration’s new plan for immigration reform, and there’s a lot of talk about limiting unskilled migration, etc. Obviously the DV lottery will be affected. Do you have any knowledge of this? I’ve looked, but I can’t find any details.
Thank you,
Dorothy
August 3, 2017 at 03:29
It’s unlikely to pass. Forget about it unless passed.
August 3, 2017 at 03:35
Hi Simon,
I’m from the Oceania region and my case number is around 2100. I’m extremely anxious about getting any interview. I’ve read all your stuff and still have trouble understanding what “current” means on the visa bulletin. Do you think i will get an interview given my case number and past results?
I also heard that if i haven’t received anything before the next lottery starts (2018) then I can forget about getting an interview. The new lottery for next year starts in October and i had a friend who heard back in November so how does that work?
Thanks!
August 3, 2017 at 05:14
The second part of your question is nonsense.
BUT you have a very high number and I very much doubt you will benefit from your selection. You will probably never be current – i.e. never get an interview. You can enter again in DV2019 (opens in October).
August 3, 2017 at 04:26
I have applied for my SSN but simply waiting for the GC to be mailed. What should I do to activate my GC?
August 3, 2017 at 05:12
If you entered the USA that is all you need to do.
August 3, 2017 at 05:52
Simon of Britain thank you so much with God, you and other’s support I am now in the US in the beautiful city of Seattle specifically Beacon Hill south. Technically your support is enormous, thank you so much again!!
August 3, 2017 at 07:53
hey simon i have submitted my ds260 form on mid july when do you suggest the interview will be held?

August 3, 2017 at 08:57
does RAISE ACT effect on 2018 lottery winners?
August 3, 2017 at 12:13
I don’t believe the Raise act will be passed.
August 3, 2017 at 12:18
Hi, Simon. Do you know whether men in their 26 (green card holders) must register for selective services? We entered US in June 14 and my husband became 26 on June 22 2017. Thank you in advance.
August 3, 2017 at 12:33
He should have registered! Try to register now – the system might not accept the registration.
https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Why-Register/Benefits-and-Penalties
August 3, 2017 at 14:25
The system does not accept it. As birth date shows that he is already 26 years old.
August 3, 2017 at 14:32
Yes OK. Whether it will cause problems or not, I don’t know.
August 3, 2017 at 14:35
Ok, thanks!
August 3, 2017 at 22:14
Hello Britt, when must be registered?
August 3, 2017 at 23:12
All males must register before their 26th birthday. The link above explains all.
August 3, 2017 at 12:54
Hi Simon, just to understand. Why In the blog โ DV2018 Selectee numbers publishedโ do you firstly say that, for Europe, we should be safe if our number is below EU37XXX and then later you say the visa allocated to Europe should be around 36.63% of the total visa (that is around 18.300, compare to 37.000 basically half)? Thanks!
August 3, 2017 at 13:23
Because not every case number has a real case. Because not every selectee will respond. Because not every person who responds will be approved.
In short – because I understand the process and the numbers.
If you want to understand – please read a series of articles I wrote to explain. Start with this link.

August 3, 2017 at 16:35
Dear Simon,
Thank you for taking time to read this.
I was wondering if I can enter the US with ESTA visa waiver program after submitting DS-260.
On ESTA requirements it doesn’t say intended immigration will be banned from entry. But I know for other visa such as F1 will be banned to enter the US once submitting DS-260.
If submitting DS-260 is an intention of migration to the US then is it possible to enter US for few weeks after unlocking DS-260?
August 3, 2017 at 16:53
Yes
August 3, 2017 at 19:54
Hey brist i filled my primary occupation as student mean why i completed high school two years ago would it affect my dv proceeding yes or no
August 3, 2017 at 20:46
Not really – UNLESS they wonder why you did not tell the truth.
August 4, 2017 at 12:11
Enter your comment here…hello Brit what should I write under the primary occupation since am not working
August 3, 2017 at 23:10
I’m sorry,
Is it yes for being able to enter the US only after unlocking DS-260?
August 3, 2017 at 23:16
No – yes you can enter the USA after submitting the DS260 (locked or unlocked)
August 4, 2017 at 00:48
i’m Pakistani born and live in Saudi Arabia i won dv2018 by case number 2018AS000118XX
what are the chances for my interview and when i might be interviewing ?
thank you.
August 4, 2017 at 06:56
How are you claiming chargeability to an Asian country?
August 4, 2017 at 10:06
Lol ?
August 4, 2017 at 15:29
To clarify, Pakistan is where you were born, and is not an eligible country. So – how are you claiming chargeability to some other country? It must be through marriage OR through parents that are not Pakistani, but were in Pakistan for some temporary reason.
August 14, 2017 at 02:59
no i have born in Saudi Arabia but my nationality is Pakistan which make me eligible for visa
so my Q is what are the chances for my interview and when i might be interviewing ?
thank you
August 14, 2017 at 04:14
OK. As for your chances – I don’t know. You will have to wait and see. If you do get an interview it will be in the final month or two.
August 4, 2017 at 04:59
Dear BritSimon,
Thanks a lot for your website, it helps millions of people.
I have already obtained the Diversity Immigrant Visa in my passport for me and for each of my family members (wife and three kids) which will expire by 3 Nov 2017. Currently, I have not yet entered the US and I am getting divorced with my wife and she will drop the custody of my kids to me so the kids will travel with me to US but not the wife.
I will need to marry another woman to help taking care of the kids, what will be the process for the new wife to get a US visa in this case and how long will it take?
Thank you
August 4, 2017 at 16:18
Once you have entered the USA, and have divorced and remarried you could sponsor the new spouse – which would take about 2 years. However, there are other childcare options in the USA other than marrying someone to look after your kids!
August 5, 2017 at 01:20
Thank you for answering my question, I really appreciate that.
Just other few points to clarify. What if:
1. I divorce before entering USA, will this affect my visa status to enter the country?
2. I remarry before entering the USA, will the 2 years process period still apply for the new spouse?
August 5, 2017 at 01:39
1. Yes – you would have to tell the embassy.
2. Yes.
August 4, 2017 at 06:41
Hello Simon,
I am from Nepal. Since there are 4097 DV winners from Nepal for 2018, Does this total number contains only principal applicants or it also includes derivatives (secondary applicants) ?
Thanks in advance
August 4, 2017 at 16:15
Includes derivatives.
August 4, 2017 at 07:32
Hi Brit,
My wife is a dv 2018 winner. On her initial entry, her occupation was student. She got a teaching job from a secondary school shortly after the entry. She is not a trained teacher and is qualifying on education because she has a high school certificate and a university degree. Our marriage certificate and her ds260 form have her occupation as teaching and her passport yet to be delivered will have her occupation as teaching too. She does not intend to continue with the teaching job when schools resum in September. She intends to apply for a masters degree program in a university. My questions are;
1) should we unlock the ds260 form and change her occupation?
2) Will the change cause denial?
Case number: 2018AF60**
DS 260 form submitted on june 05.
August 4, 2017 at 10:30
1.update your DS 260 when their is a change in information otherwise it’sโ all about document work experience
2.no
August 4, 2017 at 15:27
1. You could, but there is no need to do that.
2. No
August 4, 2017 at 08:00
Hi Brit, I’m Dv2018 winner and my cn is 2018AF46xx from Liberia , I submitted my ds260 on July 11. Will I be part of October interview base on your scenario.(2) I played single but have 8 years old daughter, I didn’t include her in the ds260 but i really want her to live with me in the USA. Please i need your advise
August 4, 2017 at 10:33
Michael
Have you included her on your initial entry form? Otherwise?????
August 4, 2017 at 15:26
You already asked. I already answered.

August 4, 2017 at 08:40
Hi Brit
I don’t really remember if i have entered my spouse during entering DV and now i’m selected for the DV-2017. I know the rule that disqualifies both if you go for interview without entering your husband while you are already married by that time. Is there a way to know if i have entered by that time or not? the KCC letter only mentions my name not my spouse’s?
August 4, 2017 at 15:23
This is why it is better not to lie. You wouldn’t need to remember if you had followed the rule of ALWAYS telling the truth.
In your case, the fact that your spouse wasn’t on your 1NL or 2NL shows you lied during the entry.
August 4, 2017 at 09:18
Helloo brit, how is life? I heard trump has cancel dv lottery and there will not be dv 2019. Please how true is that? Should I forget about accesing the web site in october. Thank you
August 4, 2017 at 15:22
I will be posting something about that later today.
August 4, 2017 at 18:46
Hello brit, I will be expecting your post concerning trump cancelling dv lottery and as that there will no be dv 2019. Thank you
August 4, 2017 at 09:42
Hi Brits, I’m a DV2018 selectee and my CN:2018AF14XXX. Prior to this I had been admitted to an american university for my masters. I got an appointment for my F-1 visa, I was asked if i had applied for a green card and I said yes but I was denied based on having an immigrant intent. Therefore I would like to know if it will affect my green card and when would I probably get an interview since I submitted my DS-260 on 4th May.
Secondly, do I have to show proof that I shall not be a burden to the government since I shall be staying with my auntie.
August 4, 2017 at 14:53
No impact to the DV case.
Yes you might have to show financials. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/

i played for my fiancee last year and her date of birth is 15 June 1996, she won and her case number is 2018AF00052XXX. there are some questions i would like to answer. we are going to apply together for the visa
1-The age eligibility, we got married before she turn her 21 years (december 2016).is it a problem here ?
2-the case number is above the 50,000. is there a chance to be scheduled for an interview?
3-we are playing to welcome a new born before the interview.
August 4, 2017 at 14:48
1. No
2. Maybe – https://britsimonsays.com/DV2018-basic-questions/
