November 6, 2017 at 15:30
Yes Colombo
November 6, 2017 at 02:08
Hey brit so it’s been a couple of weeks since I came to US. So I had to register in selective service within a month and if I was unable to do I would have to pay $250k and have to go back to my country. I registered but I’m not sure if they would get it in a month. I even tried to check on verify the registration and mine wasn’t there. So a little bit worried.
November 6, 2017 at 13:57
No need to worry.
November 5, 2017 at 21:46
Hi Brit,
Few questions:
1. If they ask me at the interview; Where did you study? I actually finished only high school, I dropped in the first year of university studying computer science. Should I also tell about the drop out ?
2. I have a high school diploma and 2+ years of experience, I’ve made both documents ready to present.
3. Computer Programming, Web Developer and other related jobs with computers, they do count as good jobs, is that correct?
November 6, 2017 at 00:18
1. The truth. It’s always that answer.
2. OK
3. They are OK.
November 5, 2017 at 19:35
Dear Simon
I hope you are doing well. When I read your blog people are writing about uploading marriage certificate . I completed the DS260 in May for all family members including my wife and got the confirmation . I did not upload the marriage certificate nor I remember being requested while completing the form . Do you think I need to go back and upload or present it when I am called for interview most likely early next year ? My case number is AF11xxx
November 6, 2017 at 00:24
People only need to upload it if they entered as single, then got married after the entry.
November 5, 2017 at 19:23
Hello sir! My husband won a 2018 lottery EU2018 with the number 15XXX. We have a son who, in May when we completed the DS260, was a student. But he graduated and started working.
1. Do we need to request form unlocking and add changes?
2. If we unlock DS260, will this affect the date of our interview?
Thanks for everything you do!
November 6, 2017 at 00:25
1. No
2. No
November 5, 2017 at 17:31
Hi, i have been with my partner for 17 years now, we have two kids together. we have what we call an registered partnership, not an official marriage. Although in the Netherlands this is almost the same in many ways. Does this qualify as married for DV Lottery???

Hi. I need to know if the form to apply for visa DV 2019 must be completed in English (example room address) thank you

November 5, 2017 at 16:07
Hi Mr Brit I have finally submitted my DS 260 without the marriage certificate do I need to request for unlock
Note I only indicated my wife and child details on my DS260 because am not moving with them now
November 5, 2017 at 16:26
I’m completely confused why you keep on about the marriage cert. I told you “NO” the first time you asked. What part of “No” was confusing?

Good Day Mr Britsimon.
I want to open my ds260 and include my passport number.
I am a Government teacher in my country. But when they asked in ds260 what I would to do in the United States, I choosed Military because I have always loved to be in the American defense force.
I am 28years. Do you think I will change the occupation?
Thanks A Million
November 5, 2017 at 16:03
It doesn’t matter what occupation you choose.
November 5, 2017 at 15:05

November 5, 2017 at 08:11
Hi Simon,
Sorry to bother you with yet another question. I emailed the US embassy in my country to make sure there wouldn’t be any problem if I travelled to the US for a short vacation as a DV2018 winner. Like you told me, it will be no problem, however they did say that I will have to unlock my DS260 after my trip to add it to my recent trips.
So here’s my question: My number is EU11XX. Do you think unlocking my DS260 now will cause a delay for my interview? I wasn’t expecting my interview to take place till February/March anyway with how slow things have been going this year, but I really don’t want to delay it any further. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this!
Many thanks in advance,
Nina
November 5, 2017 at 16:12
It won’t delay – but you don’t have to add it either. It’s up to you.

Hi Brit
We had my interview last week and they said all my documents are OK but they give me and my husband green slip which ask for more information about our background .
They Ask for our travel history for the last 15 years ,job history for 15 ys and our sibling name date of birth &place of birth.
They ask us to submit all doc online.
1. Is that normal??do we have any chance yet??
2. Are their any form they provide for travel history??
November 5, 2017 at 16:17
1. Some people are asked. Most are not.
2. They may ask you to complete a form, if not, just list it in a sensible way.

DV2 doesn’t need to travel with the DV1
November 5, 2017 at 03:44
Hello, I’ve looked through FAQ but have not been able to find something similar. I just discovered your website today so please forgive me if I missed something. My question is am I eligible to AOS under the following circumstances: my family entered the US in August 2014 on b-1/b-2 visas (6-month stamps). Then we applied for asylum in November 2014 (b status had not expired by the time of filing). The case is still pending with USCIS. And we won the DV-2018 lottery.
I promise to get back to this website and honestly relate how my case ended up. If you’ve answered before, please just give me the link. Thank you very much in advance!
November 5, 2017 at 16:23
People with Asylum cases can file for AOS, yes.
November 4, 2017 at 23:39

Today, the State Department said thousands of immigrants are threatened with deportation from the United States and a reduction in the number of visas.
Q. Does this measure include the reduction of visas awarded to the 2018 lottery winners?

November 4, 2017 at 14:41
Hi Simon!
I’m a DV2017 lottery winner and visa recipient.
1. Im planning to move to the US next month before my visa expires. Could I be asked to show a bank statement at the POE?
2. How much money is usually considered acceptable to move in? I don’t have a lot of savings at the moment in my bank account but money invested which I cannot move.
Thanks
David
November 4, 2017 at 15:13
1. No
2. That varies depending on your plans. Make a sensible plan.
November 4, 2017 at 14:36
Hi Brit!
My husband and I are DV2017 lottery winners and are traveling to the States in two weeks to activate our visa, then traveling back to our home country before making the final move in 6/8 months (my husband is completing grad school hence why we cannot move sooner). We both have jobs in our home country which we won’t quit until we make the final move.
Do we have to pay taxes in the States while still living in our home country and having an income abroad?
Thanks
Isa
November 4, 2017 at 15:12
You have to FILE taxes once you are an LPR. So you will file next year for 2017. Whether you PAY taxes or not depends on your income.
November 4, 2017 at 14:09
Hi Brit I’ve got 25K in my bank account for two person family and also I’ve got a job offer from a company in USA which produces hunting tings such as sporting fire arms etc. but the thing is we met them in my country and they are about to import constructions goods from my country to USA because beside producing hunting things they are shifting to construction business and they want to hire me because of rich market knowledge, language etc. that’s why they made me a job offer and now I’ve two question;
1-) is it problem to represent a job offer from a company which is related with sporting fire arms ?
2-) the job offer is below and could you tell me does the offer meet with the requirements of job offer instructions.
Dear Harun Derca
Thank you for your resume. You’re qualified to help us with our business here and in Turkey.
I’m writing this letter to inform you and confirm that XXX Arms, LLC has agreed to hire you for a full time position with our company. Your position will be assistant import manager.
Your position will be full time with a starting pay of 15.00 $ per hour for a 40 our work week, Monday through Friday.
We would like you to start as soon as possible. Should you have any questions please call me to discuss.
(Thank you for your time. God bless you Brit. )
November 4, 2017 at 14:13
1. No
2. American companies know how to write a job offer. I won’t give advice about that. But I will say this – unless this is a 100% genuine job offer DO NOT present it. It is very suspicious and convenient to have a job offer before moving to the USA. It seems questionable. So – don’t lie in ANY way during your interview.
November 4, 2017 at 14:39
This is the real one. No lies. I do present this job offer or not I’ll work there when I move US. I’ll be assisting to manager for import goods from Turkey. That’s all I swear. So there is nothing to hesitate right?
November 4, 2017 at 15:12
Your choice.
November 4, 2017 at 14:06
Hi Simon,
I am a winner of DV 2018 and I’m wondering if its possible to get married before the interview and get her a green card too? I sent the DS260 in May and I’m expecting an interview January. (EU000071XX)
November 4, 2017 at 14:15
If it is a real relationship (that you can prove already existed) then yes you could marry – but you have to do that quickly so the spouse can be added before you are scheduled for interview.
November 4, 2017 at 14:23
Thank you. That is no problem. Do I ask them to open my case ASAP? Or what’s my options
November 4, 2017 at 14:30
1. Get married
2. Unlock and add spouse (you will need to upload a marriage cert).
November 6, 2017 at 06:27
Thank you once again. We’ve been a couple for almost 10 years and have lived together in a apartment the past four years. She wasn’t sure she wanted to go to the states but has decided now. Do you think they will be suspicious and deny the entry because we got married so late? And will the marriage postpone the interview?
November 6, 2017 at 14:02
If you like your spouse, hurry up and get married. That is all you need to think about!!
November 6, 2017 at 17:37
What if I get the 2NL before I get the marriage certificate? Can I request KCC to open my case a bit premature just in case? Or is that a bad idea? I read your FAQ and I understand that I will need to contact the embassy if that happens but I would prefer things to go as smoothly as possible.
Thank you
November 6, 2017 at 19:45
Getting married immediately is the best idea. Unlocking won’t stop them scheduling. Get on with the marriage.
November 4, 2017 at 13:55
Hi, I hope you’re fine.
please I would like to ask a question:
for the $ 330 maintenance fee
is the same for children or there is a difference.
I mean a couple who will spend their interview on Monday 6/11 with 2 children adult expenses c the same for children or not?
Thank you for answering me.

Hello Brit Simon, I was selected in the DV2018 lottery, under number EU26xxx. When can I expect the interview? Thnanks a lot! BR
November 4, 2017 at 14:18
I am not predicting.
November 4, 2017 at 13:34
Hello Simon,
Regarding work related documents,
1. Should I submit both a copy and the original of these work contracts / certifications / volunteer work etc? or is a copy of these documents enough.
I am aware that the required documents such as birth certification need to be original and a copy, but I am not sure about the others like above.
2. Could I annoy them if I send many documents (work + volunteer activities)
November 4, 2017 at 14:19
1. You can decide.
2. Yes – you just present what you need to show.
November 4, 2017 at 13:11
Hi Brit,
1. I’m under 26 and I’ve filled the military form. Should I have printed it? do I need it for my interview ?

Hi Mr. Simon,
Here is my question-
I filled DV 2017 with my wife and two sons. The embassy ask us a medical examination. My wife and two sons finished their examination and submitted to the embassy. The issued the visa to my wife and two kids. My medical is delayed because of medical process. And finally I submitted the medical result successfully to the embassy on the month of September. But they told me that ‘the visa for the fiscal year is finished’. In addition, they told me my wife will facilitate to me when she go to the US and the process will take 3-6 months. Now, my wife and the kids are in the US and receive their Social security card. So, when does she start my process?
Thanks.
