Hello Brit,
I have a question: I always see in questions people ask to lock/unlock the DS260. Now my questions are followings:
1. Who lock the DS260? The applicant or the system itself(KCC)?
2. What are the benefits of locking the DS?
3.Is it mandatory to lock it?
4. When to lock it and how?
I am asking those because I just filled the form, sent it and got a confirmation number. Do I have to take additional steps of locking it?
Thanks for your time and considerations.
November 6, 2017 at 14:05
If you submitted it, it is locked. You cannot edit a locked form.

November 6, 2017 at 12:00
Hello, i have 2 questions honestly
1. If i have a photo that meets the standard requirement, do i have to run it through the photo check on the DV lottery website ? or i can just submitted directly
2. My wife was born in Gaza [Palestine], in the form they say Gaza born children should be checked in “Egypt”, so for my wife [just to make sure] i will insert in her application she is from EGYPT, right ?
November 6, 2017 at 14:12
1. The photo check tool is optional.
2. Follow the instructions.
November 6, 2017 at 12:41
Hello simon ! I got visa in my passport.
Is that allowed to choose toronto as transit ?
I am from Albania .
November 6, 2017 at 14:13
Yes
November 6, 2017 at 20:02
Do i need to apply for a transit visa or an eTa ?
Thanks in advance
November 6, 2017 at 20:57
How would I know? It depends on YOUR circumstances.
November 6, 2017 at 22:19
Albanians need visa to go to canada . I won dv and visa and now im booking the flight to us . Im asking if i can transit through canada .
November 7, 2017 at 01:35
And I already answered you can transit through Canada, but I cannot tell you what visas you would need for that.
November 7, 2017 at 20:12
Hello Truos,
I’m an albanian as you (also DV Winner).
With US Creen Card you can enter in Canada via land or sea without Visa.
If you flight, you need prior confirmation : an eTA (this is sure).
You can pay Green Card fee now, and someone from US can post you the GC in Albania. If you go transit in Toronto with your Green Card together with your Albanian passport, you will not have any problem.
Otherwise to be sure, you can send an E-mail the Canadian Embassy in Rome (that covers Immigration process for Albanian Citizens) and ask them.
In they give positive answer, print the Email with their response, and show the Immigration in Toronto.
Good Luck in US
Sander
November 7, 2017 at 20:29
Hello sander !
Im flying for the first time in usa . I dont have a green card yet . Im booking the flight with albanian passport and diversity visa stamped in . I was looking about eTA and its saying that is valid only for taiwan chinese and some other countries that have US visa in their passport .
Thanj you sander !
Wish you the best of luck
November 7, 2017 at 20:42
Hi Truos,
I know that you don’t have a GC yet.
But if you see, your DV Visa is issued
for Permanent Resident (for 1 year).
Is written with small letters in the end of the Visa (Note…..).
If your flight is after 2 months or more, you have the time to receive the GC.
If the booking is less than 2 months,
confirm with Canadian Immigration first, to avoid any possible surprise.
Check below the website of Canada
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas-result.asp?q2=yes&country=AL&result=4
To be sure ask the Canadian Embassy in Rome, or Email Toronto Airport
Sander
November 7, 2017 at 21:02
Yes sander , i have to be sure before i travel theough canada . This is a good idea to talk with canada airport or canadian embassy in rome.
Thank you very much
November 6, 2017 at 14:15
Congrats man
November 7, 2017 at 09:27

Hello brit,am the principal applicant.today morning my wife got message through messenger from unknown person she was thought is this her client or overseas lawyer (my wife is a lawyer) and she reply to her ‘hi’ then that unknown person suddenly asked about ‘can you tell me about the green card processing and how to be winner’ my wife was surprise about this question because no one know our winning. I checked that profile that person from Kenya(I don’t know it’s fake fb account)but we are so frightened about this incident .can I informe this matter to KCC?I can’t suggest to KCC to do permanently Lock my ds 260 because I’m now in Qatar when I back to my country I wanna change my present address.what should I do?
November 6, 2017 at 16:09
Hello, am also in Qatar. Winner of dv 2018, are you going to do your interview here….. We can share……….
November 6, 2017 at 19:46
Just use some common sense in protecting your information.
November 6, 2017 at 17:50
Hi Brits
Got a litle worry and wish to ask for ur advise.
1. My 2018AF dv CN is 21xxx and when filling the DS 260 form, on the space for date of marriage, instead of 2012 I rather mistakenly filled 2011.
2. Secondly, on the space for highest diploma, I filled university degree considering that I have a 3yrs training professional diploma after high school as a teacher a higher teachers training college in cameroon which is an equivilent of 1st degree.
I my at risk please? If yes, what can I do????
November 6, 2017 at 19:44
No problem.
November 6, 2017 at 17:53
Thanks alot for the help offerd from ur blog. The DV site says u should not submit entry twice or u will be disqualified. I have seen someone with same names and Year of birth as mine. what will happen to my entry if he also submits an entry for the DV 2019 program. Thanks
November 6, 2017 at 19:43
Do those people live in the same address as you and were born in the same place, and have the same photo? Think about it. Your name is not the only piece of data they have to identify you.
November 6, 2017 at 19:22
Hello Mr Simon
I have two questions,pls
1. as a Office and Administrativ Support, what answer should provide to the question: “Does this job require at least 2 years of training or experience?” I’ve already completed with ” no “.Sould i unlock ds 260 to correct if answer is “yes”?
2.my husband’s dad died after I completed ds 260. Sould i unlock ds 260 to correct ?
Thanks
November 6, 2017 at 19:39
1. You can decide whether your answer was accurate of not.
2. Not needed – but if you correct for something else – correct it then.
November 6, 2017 at 20:06
What if someone writes that his job needs 2+ years of experience but the CO decides it doesn’t?
Will the job just be disregarded, or will the incident bear more serious consequences?
November 6, 2017 at 20:56
If the person is qualified by education, it doesn’t matter at all.
November 7, 2017 at 06:48
I see, thank you
November 6, 2017 at 20:09
mr simon

November 6, 2017 at 20:29
Hello, answer please, should I fill information of my wife’s son (19 years old) in my Dvlottery profile, or not? the son is not my.
November 6, 2017 at 20:47
Yes. If you are married, the child is YOUR stepchild.
November 6, 2017 at 20:54
Dear Simon,
I have a question regarding medical checkup.
We are going to have interview next month. My wife has a long postpartum depression after she gave birth and still after 2 years she is under treatment and taking some prescribed medicines for mood, anxiety and depression. I am going to translate her prescription and take it to medical checkup as it was in their instruction. Do you think her conditions and status might affect medical results and our case process?
Thanks
November 6, 2017 at 20:59
No.
November 6, 2017 at 21:20
Hi. I wrote 1 letter wrong of the state of my last job at the Ds 260, should I unlocked for that?
November 6, 2017 at 21:22
No
November 6, 2017 at 21:24
hi, Simon, again. I left a comment on Nov 2, 7:31 am but i can’t find it and i haven’t seen any reply on it, so I will place the question again.
First of all to thank you for helping all of us with the Div Visa process, I live in California for 10 months now.
So, a friend of mine has contacted non official gov site to submit entry. When he told me it was too late, they have already submitted an entry for him for 2019. How can we check if his entry number is legit? the ESC gov site does not accept 2019, but only 2018 check status.
thank you
Kelly

Hi BritSimon,
My spouse today received an email (2nd NL) from KCC titled “Diversity Visa Adjustment Letter”. We are planning to do AOS here in the U.S.
Now, we know that we have to pay the $330 fee/applicant, but my question is, can we combine the payments for the two applicants (for My Spouse – the primary applicant, and myself – the derivative) or should we send the payments separately?
Thanks!
P.S. I also posted this question on a different thread titled “DV lottery fees” but then I realized that that thread hasn’t had any activity since a few months ago. So, BritSimon, feel free to delete whichever post (one of the two identical posts) so as to avoid duplication issues.
November 7, 2017 at 01:33
I answered your other post.
November 6, 2017 at 22:16
I once treated for TB and I have been cleared. But my X-Ray shows that I was once a TB patience. Can that leads to visa denial?
November 7, 2017 at 01:34
No
November 6, 2017 at 23:19

November 7, 2017 at 00:48
Hi bgit

November 7, 2017 at 01:36
KCC don’t want it. The DS260 will.
November 7, 2017 at 01:55

Anybody else finding it impossible to submit their DV19 application online…the page just seems to time out. I’ve done mine but my wife’s application is becoming a headache.
November 7, 2017 at 03:49
Restart your PC, use a single browser.
November 7, 2017 at 03:37
Hello Simon,
I’m a DV selectee, completed the DS-260.working on my I-485.I’m little confused with the A-number.As DV selectee do I have A-number? (Is that the confirmation number on DS 260 confirmation page?)
Thanking you in advance
November 7, 2017 at 03:49
You get an A number once approved.
November 7, 2017 at 04:29
Thank you for your information.so right now i should leave the a-number box blank on my i-485?
November 7, 2017 at 13:16
Yes
November 7, 2017 at 05:11
Hello Simon,
It’s always a pleasure reading your blog each day coz everyday I learn something new. Thank you for your endless effort to help DV selectees.
I’m a dv selectee case number 2018AF10***.I’m guessing I’ll have my interview early next year.I filled my ds 260 in early June while still working in my country.I was later awarded a two year masters scholarship to a neighbouring country. I already started my course work in September and will be done with my first semester in December.
1.Should unlock my form and add the masters program?
2.Once issued with a visa can I make my first trip for a week then come back and finish my degree?
3.Do I have to be physically present in the u.s until my plastic card is out?
4.Can I get a job in the u.s with an Msc. degree from Africa?
November 7, 2017 at 13:21
1. Not necessary
2. Yes – BUT you must be careful to establish and maintain residence. Read this https://britsimonsays.com/faq/timeline-of-first-entry-and-absences-from-usa/
3. No
4. It won’t harm your job search – it won’t guarantee you a job either.
Take the medical as late as possible – your visa expiry date will be medical date plus 6 months. . A later interview will be better for you to allow you to finish your masters without fear of losing residence – but you will probably have to make at least one trip to the USA to maintain your status.
November 8, 2017 at 13:08
Your mastery of English sounds familiar@Phyne!
November 7, 2017 at 05:18
Hi Britsimon! My interview’s coming up in December but l visited the US in October…1. do i need to unlock my DS260 to add this recent trip details? 2. Will editing my DS260 or not editing it affect my interview?
November 7, 2017 at 13:22
1. No need, plus you cannot update since you are already scheduled.
2. No
November 7, 2017 at 07:36

I cannot predict the outcome of your specific case.
November 7, 2017 at 11:13
Hello Simon, I just read here a couple of your answers that are worrying me: I am a DV2018 winner and while I completed the DS260 form I didn’t see anywhere any place where “browsing and attaching” files/documents such as marriage certificate for example, but then I read your comments that DS260 “will ask ” for such attachments. I hope I misunderstood you, could you please clarify this for me? Thanks very much in advance.
November 7, 2017 at 13:27
If you marry after the original entry, and need to add a spouse, the marriage cert is then uploaded.
November 7, 2017 at 11:38
Hi Simon,
First I would like to say Thank you for such a useful website.
I am just wondering about my case number.I’m from Turkey and my Case number is around 27000.
When I checked visa bulletin on November it was going too slow.Well Do you think apply again dv2019 lottery? If I apply again, is it problem?
Best Regards,
Hakran
November 7, 2017 at 13:27
Your number will be fine – but apply for DV2019 if you want – no problem.
November 7, 2017 at 12:56
Dear Simon
The fee $330 should be paid at the window in local currency (im my case Euro) or do I need to change money to dollar before entering to US embassy ?
Thank you very much
November 7, 2017 at 13:29
Varies by embassy.
November 7, 2017 at 13:24
Hi BritSimon
Is it true that once someone have been disqualified a permanent record is maintained for that disqualification in KCC and therefore that person will never be approved in a future lotteries?
November 7, 2017 at 14:14
That depends on the reason for the disqualification. If the reason was some type of fraud – then they could be banned for ever.
November 7, 2017 at 13:27
What is the time between i received the email for the interview and the interview? Two months aprox?
November 7, 2017 at 14:13
Nearly two months. For instance, 2NLs will be sent in late November for interviews over the whole of January.
November 7, 2017 at 14:52

November 7, 2017 at 17:46
Good evening Mr Brit. Thanks for your response yesterday. I and my wife went for the interview today. After assessing our documents, the CO ask why my wife birth certificate was declared in 2008 where as she was born 1985. What was she using as birth certificate since she was born till 2008? She said her medical birth delivery certificate. I as the husband is the principal applicant. Can that denies the two of us the visa?
November 7, 2017 at 18:37
Surely that would have been a good question to ask the CO! Now, you just have to wait and see.
November 7, 2017 at 19:29
Can u pls tell which embassy
November 7, 2017 at 18:02
to correct. I do ds 260 unlock. Will the interview date be too long? Would it be delayed to go to the interview?
case no 24xxx ..thanks
November 7, 2017 at 18:35
No delay.
November 7, 2017 at 20:23
Hello Simon,
Do you have any info about the
Green Card fee for DV Winners?
I know that the fee was 165$ per person,
but it seems that is changed in 220$?
I’m calculating the payment for my family
but I’m not sure, how much money I should pay?
Thanks in advance
Sander
November 7, 2017 at 21:29
220 per person.
November 7, 2017 at 21:37
Hello Simon,
In the O*Net Online Database, the profession “Web Developer” is assigned job zone 3 – https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/15-1134.00. However, the profession “Computer Programmer” is in job zone 4.
Regardless, as border between “Computer Programmer” and “Web Developer” is blurred, to say the least, should I answer “Yes” to the question “Does this job require at least 2 years of training or experience?” given, that I’m a web developer?
I already asked this question, but felt the need to clarify. Sorry for annoyance.
Thanks
November 8, 2017 at 00:00
Are you qualified through education?
November 8, 2017 at 06:35
Yes.
Got it. It doesn’t matter.
Thanks
November 7, 2017 at 22:09
HELLO, GOOD NIGHTS I AM A CURATOR OF A DISABLED BROTHER, DECLARED AND JUSTIFIED BY A SUPERIOR COURT IN MY COUNTRY (VENEZUELA), IN MY DS-260 I DO NOT REPORT THIS BECAUSE THIS BROTHER IS NOT MY SON, I AM NOT HIS LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE, ALREADY MY DAD IS YOUR LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE AND I, YOUR SISTER, AM ONLY YOUR CURATOR WILL HAVE ANY DISADVANTAGE FOR THIS REASON IN CASE OF ARRIVING AT AN APPOINTMENT?
November 7, 2017 at 23:59
It has no impact on your case
November 7, 2017 at 23:01
Hello Simon
Hope you are fine . After my initial entry in August I returned to London to tie up looseneds . Im planing to Move permanently In March . My question is do I need to submit a tax return for my income in UK . If so is it ok for me to submit after I move permanently in March
Thanks in advance
Sujan
November 8, 2017 at 00:41
Yes, you will file for 2017 – the deadline is in April.
November 8, 2017 at 01:40
My friend’s interview was today in Riyadh, saudi arabia. Got denied because in the Dv lottery”s entery mistakenly entered sudan as a place of birth. While in the passport (holding sudan passport) & Ds form the place of birth is saudi Arabia. Is there anything can be done?
Thanx
November 8, 2017 at 02:06
No. The denial was correct.
November 8, 2017 at 02:24
Can you plz explain? Is that considered taking advantage of another region? Eventho both countries are eligible.
November 8, 2017 at 02:37
Yes – your friend should have had an AS region number, but actually got an AF region number. That means certain denial. The denial was completely predictable and correct.
November 8, 2017 at 06:11

November 8, 2017 at 06:43
Hello Simon,
I’ve requested KCC to unlock my DS260 a few days ago. Today I got the confirmation mail from them saying “Your request to unlock the DS-260(s) you indicated is now complete…”, However my form is still locked. Why is that?
November 8, 2017 at 13:57
I replied, that my form is still locked, but they just resent me the previous email.
Tried to access the form through incognito tab, but it didn’t work.
November 8, 2017 at 14:17
Are you a derivative?
November 8, 2017 at 14:19
No, principal applicant without derivatives
November 8, 2017 at 14:35
Request again.
November 8, 2017 at 14:46
I have a similar problem.I got a reply from [email protected] 6 days after I sent am email requesting to open my DS-260 form. The reply states “Your case has been updated, please log back into your account to view the details.” but when I logged into the ceac website my form status shows completed and I can’t edit anything.
November 8, 2017 at 14:50
UStraveldocs do not administer the DS260 – so they could not have unlocked. You have to ask KCC to unlock your form.

hello Brit..I’m from Ethiopia….. i have a question…… my mother is won DV -2018….her case number is around 22***…..is the case number is fine?…….when we fill the entry we entered two entries b/c the first entry year of birth was not correct with my mother date of birth by that case we entered another entry with the correct year/date&month…..is it affect at the time of interview? we will be disqualify?
thank you!

Your 2nd entry should cause your mother to be disqualified. If the photo was the same and other aspects of the entry match (name, address and so on) then they will refuse your mother at interview. There is very high risk (because your mother broke the rules).

I don’t know either – because I don’t know whether your education level meets the requirement without the d’avance level.

Hi Brit
I am a 2018 dv winner. Filing thee ds260, mistakenly I entered a wrong address for my former country of residence. My interview is scheduled for December. Will it affect my visa? I meet the educational requirement.
Thank you

No that should not cause denial.

Hi Brit, I’m a DV2018 selectee I did not add my 2 children in the entry but I have included them in the DS 260. will that affect my chances of getting the visa. should I edit and remove them
November 8, 2017 at 14:23
Your chance of getting the visa is ZERO percent. You are certain to be disqualified. You would be wasting your time and money to proceed.

Hello Simon,
DV-2018 winner, preparing photos for the interview. Please help us. When we came back home from photo studio, we realized that the actual photographs are probably too big. The composition template says that head size must be between 22 mm and 35 mm. On our photos the head measures 40 mm. We want to use the printed photos for the interview but also apply for DV-2019 using the same images. Also according to photo tool the head is too big.
Do you think that this is not a problem ? or would be better to rather make new photos ?
Thank you

If the photos don’t meet the requirement, take new photos.

Hello Brit,
Are medicals examinations/ vaccinations required for derivatives under 1 month old?
November 8, 2017 at 14:26
Yes
November 8, 2017 at 11:55
Hello Brit it’s been 15 days since my visa was approved but haven’t received my passport yet. When I email them they say they have no idea when the consulate general will issue the visa. My question is does it keep that long?
November 8, 2017 at 14:29
That is longer than it normally takes. Hopefully they will issue the visa soon, but you might have been placed on AP after the interview. Wait another week or two then email again.
November 8, 2017 at 15:04
Could that be the reason they kept the original of my birth certificate? Can I email the embassy to find out?
November 8, 2017 at 15:53
That won’t be why they kept the original. You can email the embassy.
November 8, 2017 at 16:28
I was sent an email and text message yesterday to go for my documents at DHL HQ. I went for my passport, travel documents and my original birth certificate today.
