Dear Simon,
If you don’t mind, could you please tell us your expectations, regarding the upper limit of risky case number for EU as shown below.
XX.xxx ≤ Risky Zone ≤ Max C. Number
(Assumptively as per non-current situation)
Best Regards.
April 1, 2018 at 20:33
I have written much about that – so read that. But in the end – the best answer is – wait and see.
April 1, 2018 at 14:24
Yes, right..thanks, that makes sence. I was looking only after CN’s…
April 1, 2018 at 07:54
Thanks for your prompt reply. There is one thing i do not understand (hope only one :)). When I filtered Xhartisius exel file (from 30.03.2018) with status “ready” i got 1928 ready cases for EU (from EU00011 till EU18046), but in the table above it is stated that EU has 4434 ready cases. Did I miss something? Thanks for your help.
April 1, 2018 at 14:20
Each case has the winner and derivayivrd. The 4434 is people.

Hi brit got a worry on my ds260 form I was ask how many academic institutions I attended instead of two I mention 1 which is the university and the degree obtain and I didn’t mention about my seconķdary school asked my A/L but is hv all the certificate with me my question is
Pls issif I take my certificate during my interview with intertwined still affect my case??
April 1, 2018 at 01:38
If you are not already scheduled, unlock and correct it. If you are scheduled you simply have to explain at the interview.
March 31, 2018 at 19:11
Sorry to bother you with such a silly question, but…. At KCC are they very picky? I have two sons (toddlers) and in the ‘preparer information’ section I made a mistake. One son has me listed, obviously, as the preparer, but the other one has nobody. Like he prepared the DS-260 himself. Is is a reason to disqualify the entire family? Should I unlock my case at KCC and make a correction or just forget about it and we’ll have a laugh with the staffers at the embassy with no negative consequences?
April 1, 2018 at 01:40
No need to do anything – that is trivial.
March 31, 2018 at 17:18
Hi Brit saymon,
My question is to change my interview location to Khartoum,Sudan
since, before i fill my DS-260 form my residency was at Khartoum,Sudan. My family living here at Khartoum,Sudan with, but the KCC post me for interview to Nairobi,Kenya so i want to change my interview location in Khartoum,Sudan.I send e-mail to KCC Three-four times to unlock my DS-260 to change my interview location they open it but can,t change it so what shall i do now.
Thanks
April 1, 2018 at 01:46
To change an interview you need to arrange with the new embassy that they will accept your case and then ask the old embassy to send it. But there is risk – so if there is a way to attend as scheduled – do that.
March 31, 2018 at 17:04
Dear Simon, since I am analysing the progressing in EU, because I am DC aplicant from EU (can not say winner), one question: there are ready cases with status dates from october till march. Does this means that the aplicants did not appear on their interviews or the embassies did not refresh their status (from ready to issued)? The same question is for the status in transit… Thanks a lot and happy Eeaster!
April 1, 2018 at 03:48
Most of them are people that did not show up for their interview. In Transits change to ready once the embassy updates CEAC.
March 31, 2018 at 15:24
Hi Mr. Simon,
My wife is a DV2018 winner AF7xxx.
Because we were undecided, we have not submitted the DS260 form yet.
My question if we submit DS260 next week:
1. Is it still safe to get an interview?
2. If we submit the form next week. Could you please estimate for us the month of the interview
Thank you in advance
March 31, 2018 at 15:46
1. Yes
2. I don’t know exactly how fast your DS260 will process – so wait and see.
March 31, 2018 at 17:54
Thank you for your prompt answer.
Is it normal or possible that the form takes 3 or 4 months to process at this time of the year?
Because in this case we may have a problem getting an interview, since from what I understand, September interviews are sent on July
Thank you once again
April 1, 2018 at 01:45
No – it should take less time than that.
March 31, 2018 at 14:54
Dear Brit,
I have posted a while ago, with my CN EU33xxx, but quite confident that everything should work out fine…. I’m a little worried now regarding the process, and I red your posts about your thoughts that cut of migh come earlier if pace doesnt speed up. No good news, of course. My question, however, is, regarding this huge amount of visas already issued in EU region, do you think there will even still be enough visas left to teach 33xxx, even if pace increases??
March 31, 2018 at 15:50
We are about to see the next VB in a week or two. If the pace doesn’t increase, then we can’t get to 33XXX, even disregarding quota. Now – as to quota, visas are being issued fast. There is a chance of risk that way too. The reality is – this year is very different than other years regarding the density and distribution of cases. I really don’t know what will happen – so wait and see is the best answer I can give.
March 31, 2018 at 16:42
thanks Brit! Yes, that is my fear, that the quota is reached early and that this is maybe also the reason they slowed down process. So sad, normally, we wouldnt have to worry, just this year is diffrent 🙁 . I find the process of progressing very unfair. I think if somebody missed their current month, they should not be allowed to hand in their DS260 to a later time. That means that early numbers can basically just pick their date and month, regarding to whatever suits them best, and high numbers dont know what is going on at all until the very last months. I know it is a lottery, but the way they set up the system seems very unfair to me.
March 31, 2018 at 19:03
Dear Daria, I am also EU 33xxx, and I completely agree with your post. This year DV process is very unfair for us high case numbers. I mean we have a whole year full of hopes for a “new” life and than nothing 🙁 It’s very disappointing 🙁
March 31, 2018 at 21:38
To be fair, cases numbers are allocated on a first come first served basis. The sooner you submit your DS260 the lower your case number is. We ALL got the 1stNL at the same time aka may 2017. It was then that we could start filling out our DS260s so those of us who waited longer to submit their forms are the only ones to blame as for the fact that we have high case numbers. Knowing interviews are scheduled according to numbers on the Visa bulletin as it’s been every other year, it was our responsibility to act fast. Which is why I can only blame myself if my case isn’t called before September. Do i hope still? Yes. Do i panick? A little. Do i wait and see?! Absolutely. Because we never know. At the end of the day, let us all remember that it is a LOTTERY after all… nothing is ever safe or guaranteed. Anyway, Good luck to us all. There are still 4 bulletins to be published until the end of the fiscal year!
April 1, 2018 at 01:39
The case number has nothing to do with time of DS260 submission. The case number is picked and ordered right from the beginning.
March 31, 2018 at 21:48
uhhm. to be fair- you get your casenumber befor submitting ds260. it is written on your 1nl.
April 1, 2018 at 03:49
Well that is the system. The earliest case numbers were chosen first – and therefore get priority.
April 1, 2018 at 10:24
such an easy step to make the system a fairer one… be chosen first, get priority, but dont miss your chance.
March 31, 2018 at 12:42
Dear simon
i heard if you do not received the 2NL one of my friend told me to write an email to kcc by putting your name ,date of birth ,and required information to ask them whether your application is being processed or not,
They will give you a reply in a day that contain the appointment information.
Have you experienced this?
March 31, 2018 at 14:08
Just be patient!!!
March 31, 2018 at 12:30
Dear brit
Greetings!
i read the following information about education requirement.
Education: Applicants must have completed a full-time high school education that is at least equivalent to a U.S. high school education (4 years, full-time, general studies). Full time general studies high school degrees do qualify for the lottery. Full time vocational high school degrees may qualify as long as they substantially conform to the core requirements of an equivalent United States general studies degree program. The final decision will be made by the consular officer on the day of the interview.
my case is i have completed high school up to Grade 10(2 years not 4 years) then i went to vocational study in college studied 3 years of information technology got a diploma then i started my degree in computer science got my degree)
will that affect me on the interview?
i filled BSC degree in my 260,and my diploma (Not to lie)
the 4 year requirement worried me a lot,
please help simon,
thank you
March 31, 2018 at 14:06
As you quoted, the CO decides – I can’t tell you.

March 30, 2018 at 16:35
Dear Mr Simon, Many Thanks for your valuable service. I’m applying with work experience and my job meets the required levels. I have faced a problem. The company I worked for last 5 years has been closed. Now I am working with another company who manages the same business with the same brand name. My designation has been changed. All company telephone numbers are new. New supervisors etc. In my previous supervisor is working for another company. Can I put his mobile phone number as previous supervisor’s number in D 260? Thanks in advance.
March 30, 2018 at 18:41
Use your own best judgement.
March 31, 2018 at 01:03
OK. Thanks for the reply
March 30, 2018 at 13:35
Dear Brit,
My wife is a DV winner and I am her derivative.
1. Is it alright if someone who is a very close family friend of mine send me a affidavit of support? Or should it be someone whom my wife knows.
2. In the DS 260 our host is her cousin who is a citizen who lives in a different state from where I intend to get our I 134 (my family friend) from. Is it going to be problem?
The reason I am asking this is because my wife’s cousin might not have enough income to show. His yearly income is $26000 and has a wife who is not working at the moment.
Thank you very much for your help
March 30, 2018 at 14:46
1. Either is fine.
2. No
March 30, 2018 at 12:18
Hi Brit,
My question is about the medical report : it will be sealed and you have to give it at the POE. I’m concerned about the fact that it is under seal. Do it means that the officer at the POE could deny the GC immigrant the entry if it appears that there’s a health concern in the file ? Sounds absurd of course, the logic would be to tell you before the embassy gives you the visa, but if so, I don’t understand why this report should be given under seal at the POE.
Thank you btw for your website, very rare in the web to have something true and accurate (actually, it’s the only one about this subject, put aside the official US government site)
Best regards,
François
March 30, 2018 at 14:52
Yes your concern is absurd. If you had reason to be denied for medical reasons you would not have been given the visa. Relax.
March 30, 2018 at 10:19
Hi Sir Simon,
I passed dv2018 interview last week. The US address I gave in DS260 (that I will move to) is in Florida. Now I decided to go and live to California, how can I change this address? Is it possible?
With my best regards,
Giannis
March 30, 2018 at 14:56
Update the address at the POE.
March 31, 2018 at 07:25
Thanks Sir Simon. Why is correct? 1 or 2?
1. I fly from my country to California and change there the address. I don’t need to travel to Florida first.
2. I travel from my country to Florida to change the address and then travel to California.
March 31, 2018 at 14:03
Either is fine.
March 30, 2018 at 09:34
Hi Brit
My interview went well here in Congo but I didn’t bring my police records that I was waiting from Kenya during the interview (1st March) and the CO gave me an envelope after the interview to put the missing document along with my passport and to bring them to the embassy then I did so 2 weeks later after my interview (13 March) but until now (30 March) am not receiving a call from the embassy I don’t know what is going on out there.
Please Brit tell me more about my actual situation am I in risk or what.
March 30, 2018 at 14:57
You just have to be patient.
March 30, 2018 at 08:00
Morning Brit
I have a lil problem
My husband n I already received our visa & package
On our ds form for my sponsor I put my Aunt with her address
She was not able to send the Affidavit because she sold her house n was assigned in South Korea , she’s a social worker with the us army
But her daughter have an apartment
Doing the interview they didn’t ask for affidavit
The consular only ask who is Alice to me
I said she’s my Aunty
That was all
Moreover we never had affidavit with us
Cause we ask my other Aunty to send it last minute almost 2 days to the interview she said she was not able to send it
It was just God
1. My question is We want to get another affidavit from another person will there be a problem??
2. Will it be ok to pay for ur GC here before going America
March 30, 2018 at 14:59
1. You don’t need it.
2. Yes.
March 30, 2018 at 17:34
Thanks for the reply Brit. I just want to understand something
We don’t have Affidavit
My aunty who name I put on the Ds260 form didn’t send affidavit
She sold her home n was assigned in South Korea
Her daughter has an apartment in her daughter name
We thought we could ask another person to send the affidavit maybe they could ask for it at the airport
Sorry for bothering u
I’m not just getting this
It’s confusing
Since the consular already ask us who is Alice to me
Because it was her name I put on the ds form
March 30, 2018 at 18:43
No one is going to ask at the airport or anywhere else. Forget it!
March 30, 2018 at 07:06
Hi Brit,
If I’m travelling to say New Mexico and I make a 4 day stop at New York to see some family friends, which address do I use in filling the custom form? The New York address or the new Mexico one.
March 30, 2018 at 07:10
Read the question on the form and answer it using your own judgement.
March 30, 2018 at 06:21
Hi sir brit.
we received our visa package yesterday and planning to go for an activation trip for about one week in May. But the embassy advised its BETTER to stay there until we receive our GCs and at least until we receive our SSNs. I understand one week is not enough for those and bit confused.
1) Must we have SSNs with us before our 2nd permanent trip to US?
2) Must we have GCs with us before our 2nd permanent trip to US?
I don”t understand why the embassy said BETTER.
3) Are SSNs mailed to given address like GCs ? If No how?
4) I am going to pay online for GCs . Any chance to change given address online?
5) If we make the 2nd permanent trip after 8 months from the first activation MUST we prepare an answer if they question?
Thank you so much sir.
CB VID
March 30, 2018 at 07:11
1. No
2. No
3. Yes
4. Not after the POE.
5. Just the truth.
March 29, 2018 at 21:06
I have a question that my spouse is in the process of family reunion with his brother or part of it and his family’s family in calculating the number of persons in relation to the annual income should I make a guarantee for me?
his family has 4 person + me
his brother has 5 person
so in total i have to take 9 persons or just 5 persons
March 29, 2018 at 21:11
I only answer DV lottery questions.
March 29, 2018 at 21:04
hello sir_ good afternoon, now me in USA…..i got my SS card after one week and when may i receive my Green card……?
Thank you
Than you very Much!!!!
March 29, 2018 at 21:10
It can take up to 3 or 4 months.
March 29, 2018 at 19:04
Brit did we have any eligible country that doesnt have an us embassy?
What happens if us embassy in Moscow is out of staff or closes? Do you have any opinion on this case?
March 29, 2018 at 19:15
Yes that situation has existed (Cuba, Yemen come to mind). It makes things difficult.
March 29, 2018 at 20:09
Thank you
March 29, 2018 at 20:14
Difficult for Russia or difficult regarding the whole EU process?
March 29, 2018 at 20:36
Difficult for an individual to attend their interview.
March 29, 2018 at 17:10
Good evening, Brit, I have a little trouble with my case. I explain, I was chosen for the GC and when I did my interview in November 2017 I forgot my birth certificate and a week after I came back to the ambasade to do the file supplement. the consular officer had received the missing document plus the passport and told me to stay tuned. Now it’s almost 4 months but nothing. What would you advise me to do?
March 29, 2018 at 17:25
Contact the embassy.
March 29, 2018 at 13:55
copies of documents need to be notarized or apostilled?
March 29, 2018 at 16:11
Normally not because you are presenting the original and a copy at the time of interview.
March 29, 2018 at 13:49
Hello…. Can anybody tell me to where can I post my quesion. ??? I couldnt find the place. Can i ask my quesion from brit through this section which says leave a reply ??? Thank you….
March 29, 2018 at 16:12
You posted **this** question under the page that says “Ask questions here”.
Are you sure you couldn’t find the place????
March 29, 2018 at 13:44
Not trying to be mean, but SERIOUSLY reading through these comments and questions seriously makes my head ache!!!! If the process of the DV lottery creates so much confusion and panick for some of you, you are up for a serious ride because life in the US will be a 1000 times more complicated, confusing and stressful than that. We are blessed and lucky to have Britsimon here ut there won’t be a BritSimon in your day to day life once:if you get your Green Card so honetly, I believe some of you aren’t ready or made for what the fututre holds. Again not being mean, just realistic. This blog has been more than thorough and clear, it makes no sense reading some of these things after visiting this blog. Ask yourselves if you’re really doing the right thing. there is no reason why such a simple straight forward administrative process cannot be understood. I mean if you read Simon’s post, you really shouldn’t have that many questions… All has been addressed and treated already, JUST READ AND USE COMMON SENSE. Anyway, GOOD LUCK TO US ALL.
March 29, 2018 at 13:50
TO SIMON: YOU ARE A TRUE INSPIRATION. I admire your patience and kindness, to be dedicating so much time and energy on strangers is admirable. Truly thank you. You seem to never lose your cool and find the strength to reply to all, even when the queqtions have been asked time and time again. I salute you. Many of us owe you, big time!
March 29, 2018 at 12:44
Hi Brit i just had my interview 2 days ago .it was good. But she said my visa will be issued after Adminstrative prossissing .and the she said comform ur mail with me i did and then she said u will get an email from us ds-5535 fill it and send it back to us !! And i got the mail…what should i do now…should i reply ro same email after i fill that forms ?
March 29, 2018 at 12:59
Hello Med
Refer this link ,you will get all the information .
https://mypathtocitizenship.com/ds-5535-administrative-processing-ds-5535-how-long-does-take/
March 29, 2018 at 13:29
Hi Med, where are you from ?
March 29, 2018 at 16:20
Once you submit your DS5535 you just wait. Hopefully the waiting won’t bee too long – but don’t expect an answer sooner than 1 month.
March 29, 2018 at 08:39
Dear Brit.
Good Day.
The question i have may look silly ,but i don’t know ,i came here to know it.
I came to america before two days,i do not know where i should go to process my green card.Or whom i should contact in that regard.
Please help ,Thank You
March 29, 2018 at 16:25
When you arrived at the airport they took your sealed envelope – right? They will process the GC with that information – you don’t need to do anything more. You should receive your GC within 3 to 4 months. In the meantime you should receive your SSN in 2 to 3 weeks. You are free to start looking for work and starting your American journey. Best of luck!
March 29, 2018 at 08:00
hello brit,
after 45 days my status change READY to Administrative processing today, visa was approved during interview. what would be the reason behind it ? is there any chances of visa issue ???
please help 🙁
Thank you
March 29, 2018 at 16:26
You just need to continue to wait.
March 29, 2018 at 05:34
HI, 20 days before my interview, my wife gave birth to a baby.
-Is it possible to add it on my ds260?
-If yes. How to do??
March 29, 2018 at 16:32
You will have to contact the embassy and ask them what to do – but please get the baby off the roof first. That isn’t safe at all!
March 29, 2018 at 03:00
hlo brit,
1. can a principle applicant travel US after getting the visa leaving the dependent applicant in the home country due to some problem and process for SSN and GC for both principle and dependent applicant?
2. Is it necessary the dependent too travel together and apply for SSN and GC?
March 29, 2018 at 05:14
1. The derivatives need to enter the USA to activate their status.
March 29, 2018 at 00:24
HI, 20 days before my interview I have a baby in my roof.
Is it possible to add it?
If yes. How to do??
March 29, 2018 at 05:13
A baby in your roof? Is it safe to let a baby get on your roof? Maybe you should clarify what you are asking!
March 29, 2018 at 05:43
Do this:
1. Bring ladder, make sure it is put on the solid ground, you should care for your own safety as well
2. Bring along good basket and rope
3. Start climbing your roof, take the baby in the basket, and slowly lower the baby on the ground
4. Safely go down via the ladder
5. Good luck
March 29, 2018 at 16:31
Very sensible advice. 😉
March 29, 2018 at 17:41
Every one deserves to have a good laugh, specially you Britt, with all of these questions ??
March 28, 2018 at 23:48
Hi Simon, my DV number is EU66XX. I applied for the adjustment of status route as I’m already in the U.S. I had my fingerprints taken exactly 6 weeks ago, am going to have the medical exam done next week and have paid all the applicable fees. The only thing I am missing is an interview date which is starting to make me anxious as my work permit expires in a couple of months. When can I expect to be given an interview date and is there any way of speeding up the process? Many thanks, Peter
March 29, 2018 at 05:12
I hope you have followed “Mom’s” advice to process your case. Infopass appointments are the way to push a case.

March 28, 2018 at 22:01
Hi BritSimon,
If first year after LPR activation is not so strict about absence, do time spent in US count to naturalisation ? The instructions say that out of 5 years, I have to be present in US for at least 2 and a half year to be able to apply for citizenship. So that means at least 6 months of each year. I’m going to activate my LPR in April and planning to not leave the US till November. Will this time count to my naturalisation ? Thank you
March 28, 2018 at 22:15
I don’t know.
March 28, 2018 at 20:55
Dear simon
My first entry I mention Adoption child but during DS260 I left his form and I did not fill and it is status was START NOW. That means he has no visa but 2NL I see his name, so is it compulsory to attend interview with me while his no DS260 also his is not present.
March 28, 2018 at 21:00
No it is not compulsory to attend the interview with him, nor do you have to complete his DS260.
March 29, 2018 at 10:10
No I did not start his form. Just I left his form
March 29, 2018 at 16:23
So that is fine then.
March 28, 2018 at 17:04
Hi Brit, by God’s grace I have picked our passports and the visa packets. However I want to find out if I can a quick turn around visit to attend to something very important. It means I will be traveling alone for about two weeks and return to travel with the entire family at a later date.
1. Is this arrangement workable?
2. It also means I will process my SSN and GC ahead of the rest of the family, will this pose any challenge or problem for them when we eventually leave together?
March 28, 2018 at 17:05
1. If you are the winner – yes.
2. No problem.
March 28, 2018 at 14:59
Hello Brit i have some unusual question just because some person told me it may be a rumors.
I have reviewd my DS260 form several times (10-15) times by logging on this url https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx .
1)So is it unsafe to login in the given site frequently and review the completed Ds260 form??
Sorry Brits if it is the dumb question hope u will answer it and once again thank you and sorry for trouble tc .GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
March 28, 2018 at 15:24
1. No
March 28, 2018 at 12:29
Regarding Tax Return submissions – Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for DV immigrants in transition to the states who are returning permanently a month after tax returns are due? (ie. Have green cards, social security numbers but no physical residence as yet)

Ok– my wife is a principal winner. She played as single in October 2016 but we got married officially in December 2016(she was already about 5months pregnant then with our daughter) so filled ds260 as married. I have an almost 3yrs old son with my old girlfriend (befor i marry my present wife) and a 1yr old daughter with my present wife. So the children have and age difference of about 1yr8months. My son started living with us since he was 1yr6months old. We want the two children to travel too so they also have their own ds260.
1~can my son cause problems for my wife’s(his stepmother) interview?
2~will it be OK to get permission document form his real mother so that he can come with us?
3~i dont have pics of his real mon but i have his birth cert and pics of us since he came till now. Is that OK?

Dear Brit, Thank you for your goldmine blog !
I have a question regarding unlocking the DS260 and i haven’t found the answer in the FAQ. Does unlocking the DS260 delay my case ?
I would like to add my spouse to my case (we got married last week) and my case number is around 30300. Considering how slow it is moving in Europe, what should I do ?
Thank you in advance for your answer !

Dear Brit,
Do you know approximetly how long do they process DS260? I was thinking about AOS first but because of the slow EU progress I decided to send DS260 and try the CP. I know it’s really late but is there still any chance for them to process this on time?
My CN EU25XXX.
Thank you.

Hey Brit!
I have a friend won in DV18. His case number is 167**. But he is from Ukraine and his interview is already appointed on May in Kyiv.
But in Xarthisius statistic I don’t see any case numbers in Ukraine above 16k. Why? Is the captcha parser works right?

Those numbers are shown in transit because the embassies haven’t accepted them yet. It’s not a problem.

Dear Brit,

March 28, 2018 at 17:00

Hey Brit, after going over the DS-260 one last time before the interview next week, I noticed I made an error. I forgot one 2 day US trip in between the trips I listed under the 5 trips “Have you ever been in the U.S.?”. What do you think I should do about that?
March 28, 2018 at 17:02
There is nothing you can do now. You can discuss it if asked. It should not be a problem.
