Can I joinCo sponsor I-864a,
Im edv winner and my interview held on feb 22. my main sponsor has not sufficient income, wht can I do?
March 24, 2018 at 17:48
First you use the I-134 – NOT I-864.
Second – no you cannot have co-sponsors.
March 24, 2018 at 19:06
okay but my sponser has not sufficient income, can I summit his baink statement something 10k ?
March 24, 2018 at 19:24
No. Get another sponsor.
March 26, 2018 at 09:16
Hi Simon,
I’d like to ask on the apparent insistence by COs of the I-134. Well I’m in Pretoria, South Africa so in terms of the interview I’ll be going to the Sandton consular office where they apparently ‘insist’ on submission of the I-134. Why is this so? I mean shouldn’t it depend on the profile of each interviewee? Like a person who only has matric as opposed to a professional? Or maybe it does already? Why I ask this is because I don’t have anyone I know in the States who would do this for me, so if the CO is going to ask for it then I’ll be prejudiced by my inability to produce one Please tell me I’m worrying for nothing.
Best regards
March 26, 2018 at 14:02
Being able to satisfy the CO that you will not be come a public charge is a standard across ALL immigration. That was also mentioned in the FAQ of the DV lottery, so you should not be surprised. It is up to the CO to make that judgement of whether you are a concern or not. Each embassy is free to set the standards based on what they know about the person, or what is normal in the culture and so on. Bottom line – SA tends to ask for it. You can show a large amount of liquid assets, otherwise get an I-134.
March 24, 2018 at 18:04
Hello Mr brit, I ordered my DNA test kit that was on the 5th of this month for the sample collection but up to date I have not heard from the embassy yet
1. How long does the test kit takes before getting to the embassy
2. How do I track my test kit
3. Is there any way I can do for them to speed up my case
Note: I have send them emails but no response. I begin to worry because of the time period
March 24, 2018 at 18:20
I have no idea about the DNA test.
March 24, 2018 at 18:49
What are your expectations for the Asia Bulletin to how far? my case number is AS 12200 , I would like to know it will include my case number?and when?
thanks
March 24, 2018 at 19:00
I have no expectation. The travel ban affects such a large population of AS selectees, BUT we don’t know what affect that will have. So – wait and see is all I can say.
March 25, 2018 at 05:41
Where you from Amma ? We are also the 2018 DV winners from AS with same kind a case number ? Send me a message to communicate further ! Thanks
March 24, 2018 at 19:51
there is something I dont understand… DV15 had about 10k more selectees then DV18. However, adding up winners from each region, EU this year has 1600k more winners, and other regions also dont have significantly less winners to make up for th 16k… Have I miscalculated? I did it two times…
March 24, 2018 at 19:53
“to make up for the 10k” sorry
March 24, 2018 at 20:01
what I mean is, there are 5 regions, and in DV15 there were abouth 10k more people selected then in DV18. Adding up people by region, EU this year has about 1600 more selectees than in DV 15. There must be a region that has sigificantly less selectees in DV18 then in DV15, do you have any idea which it is? And also ( I just added up selectees and EU to compare the total EU numbers of selectees). If these 10k more selectees are spread fairly around 4 regions, it still means that all 4 regions should have about 2300 less selectees then in DV15. Couldnt that mean that other regions might do have a chance to become current?
March 24, 2018 at 22:46
The selectee numbers are all published – so it is possible to find out exact differences. But DV2018 still has too many selectees. NA region is effectively current, AS might go current because of the travel ban. SA and OC have far too many selectees. And as we know, EU won’t and AF won’t.
March 25, 2018 at 06:02
Hi Brit; Good morning; long time reader first time questioner ; I have done some calculation for upcoming visa bulletin for AS I would appreciate if you can have. Look and let us know if it’s aligned With your forcase; thank you ; sorry it’s a bit lengthy post 😉
June visa bulletin forecast;
Visa bulletin is pacing around 900 ( with derivatives) per month for AS currently 6425 CN so after 7100- the density decrease drastically 30 case per 100 cases – so to get 900 Increase an average increase for Asia 7100-6425 = 675 cases comes till AS- 7100 CN out of that according to respond rate of 60% 334 actual interview will be scheduled
334 X 1.7% Derivative Growth rate for AS 1.7 = 568 – 900 pace = 332 needed to make 900 pace for AS for a month.
So to get rest of 332 cases we need 1100 cases current to get 332 Additional cases.
So with that calculation followings are the FORECAST; for JUN / JULY / AUG
7100 + 1100 = 8200 Case Numbers ( June visa bulletin forecast ??
– July visa bulletin 8200 + 2000= 10,200
– August- 10,200+ 2000 = 12200 And current ( if the ban stays )
March 25, 2018 at 14:07
Hi Sam, thanks for the clarification. Im also from AS and little more behind you in the boat. My calculatations are same like you and hope to be in September.
March 25, 2018 at 15:14
Hi Narada !
Thanks for sharing your views, my email address [email protected] if you like we can discuses that in more details, thank you.
March 25, 2018 at 14:16
Nice and thanks SAM to your culculation
March 25, 2018 at 18:00
I have said many times, AS is all about the banned cases. Trying to predict when we don’t know what will happen about the ban is pointless.
March 25, 2018 at 10:13
it just seems strange- if AS goes current, only because of the ban, not because of siginicantly less selectees. NA is not many anyways. EU has 1600 selectees more than in DV 15. Were are the 10 less selectees?
March 25, 2018 at 10:51
wow- indeed. Africa has pretty much about 10k selectees less then in DV15. EU got 1600 more then in DV15. It is strange- one would assume they learn- AF left many many people without an interview in 2015- so they drew a good amount of people less this year. But also in EU people were left without visas – so why did they draw more? It really doesnt seem to make sense.
March 25, 2018 at 17:57
As I have said – I don’t fully understand why they do it.
March 24, 2018 at 21:11
Brother in your opinion ,47000 African case ,is it safe?yes or no.Thank u so much .
March 25, 2018 at 00:04
I don’t know. Wait and see.
March 25, 2018 at 01:12
Hello sir, they they needs necessarily the person name of the us address or just they physical address ?Thank you indeed.
March 25, 2018 at 04:48
THe form asks for the address – right?
March 25, 2018 at 02:19
Dear simon
My case number is 2018AF21XXXXX but I did not get any 2NL letter, so is it a problem because of I open my DS260 Last month Feb and I change Passport information? Can it cause a delay? My case number is under MAY visa bulletin.
March 25, 2018 at 04:48
No. JUst be patient.

Hey mate, I recall asking several questions on here a while back and i’m just wondering whether it is possible for you to locate all the posts made by specific users on here.
It’s just that I want to reflect back on the questions that I made and the answers you provided at the time. I regret not bookmarking the posts I made back then. If its too troublesome, don’t worry about its all good just ignore this post.

Hi Brit, I am looking the data from Xhartisius site and the Consular Electronic Application Center of the U.S. Department of State and something I don’t understand… I was looking EU, almost all embassies have ready cases untill CN 18050 (may interviews) exept Uzbekistan, the last ready case is CN14836? Do you know why? Thanks in advance!
March 25, 2018 at 17:49
Because all Uzbekistan cases were concentrated UNDER 10700 – and there are not many other people from other countries interviewing at that embassy.
March 25, 2018 at 15:09
i am DV 2018 selectee. what i don’t know is do I need invoice id?
March 25, 2018 at 17:48
Have you been asked for that?
March 25, 2018 at 15:56
Hello Brit,
Please I will like to know with the change of address at the POE. Does it affect the Social security card as well If I already ask them to process the card when filling the DS 260.
Or after the change of address at the POE I have to go to the social security office to change the address there as well. Thanks
March 25, 2018 at 17:37
It might change the address – you might have to go to the SSA.
March 25, 2018 at 22:11
Thank you
March 25, 2018 at 17:09
Hi Brit . there is some differents between our ds 260 . For example in my ds 260 there is section that ask me about language skils.. but my wifes ds 260 that section doesnt exist . also there is some sections that dosent exist my wifes ds 260 ..is that ok ? thank you in advance
March 25, 2018 at 17:36
Yes – normal.
March 25, 2018 at 18:04
Thanks Brit, have a nice day ?
March 25, 2018 at 18:58
Hi! My case number is EU239XX. Last year I was in Europe when DV lottery results announced. I am now in US as a PhD student. Should I pursue greencard through adjustment of status in US or consulate processing in my country? Considering the slow process in case number announcement and the time required for background check, I wonder whether any of these two options is more advantageous than the other.
March 25, 2018 at 22:40
You have to decide that for yourself.
There is good info on CP vs AOS on post 1 of this thread. https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2018-aos-only.336256/
Hurry up and make your decision!
March 25, 2018 at 23:18
If I apply for AoS and the process does not end by September 30, does it mean that I lose my right for GreenCard. Even if I submit all the required documents and pay the necessary fees?
March 26, 2018 at 00:01
Yup.
March 26, 2018 at 00:12
Thank you so much. Your answers helped to make my mind. I will go to my country to have interview. Last question: I expect that EU24000 will have chance to have interview in August, if the pattern of CN announcements continues in this way (~2050 per month). But I think (hope) that they may increase the number of cases and call for 3000 cases, which means I may expect to have interview in July. Which option is more likely?
March 26, 2018 at 04:01
I don’t know – wait and see.
March 25, 2018 at 20:30
Hi Brit,
I’ve asked you this before but couldn’t find any solution. Maybe someone from your page who experienced this can help me.
I have my appointment with my wife soon. •Does someone from this page, attended their interview in PARIS CONSULATE? Did you registered your passports in this website? https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-fr/iv
Every country is different and when I’m looking to the Paris embassy website, it shows me a website like this to register. But you have to search to get this page. It’s not a page that is found easily. Oddly, people who had a obtained their green card years ago in Paris didnt need to register to a website like this one. Even more their telling me that it’s a scam. But it’s in the embassy page. It’s not in the instruction page but it’s on the website they are giving. I know that in many countries they ask for a passport registration. No one from France?
Best
March 25, 2018 at 22:45
Follow instructions from the embassy. If they tell you to create a profile in that site – then do so!
March 29, 2018 at 14:39
Paris interview over here too, when is your interview? Still waiting for a date here. Case EU201XX. You? Good luck to you and share your interview experience too
March 29, 2018 at 15:49
FYI, Paris often ask for an I-134 (or other financials).
March 31, 2018 at 11:15
Hi,
In April, did you registered your passports in this website? https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-fr/iv ??
March 31, 2018 at 11:17
Oh sorry, your number is not Current so you didn’t receive the email yet.
March 25, 2018 at 21:12
Hey Brit, I was wondering about the 10k you have to show. Is a simple bankstatement from the branch ok. Its just a print out. I couldn’t find that information on the pages for the interview. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-if-you-are-selected/diversity-visa-prepare-supporting-documents.html
March 25, 2018 at 22:31
The embassies vary in what they ask for, and also make decisions case by case. The 10k is not an “absolute” number. Some embassies may still want additional proof – or an I-134.
March 26, 2018 at 06:03
Hey Brit I submitted ds260 the first week of June, my case no is a may interview still waiting for 2NL , is there a possibility not to get 2NL? Thank you!
March 26, 2018 at 17:54
I think some more 2NLs will be sent this week.
March 26, 2018 at 07:22
After entering the US on an immigrant visa (DV Lottery visa of course), do I have to apply for a Social Security Number seperately? Or will I be sent one automatically? What are the time scales? Cheers!
March 26, 2018 at 17:52
In the DS260 there was a question asking whether you wanted USCIS to apply for the SSN for you or not. If you selected that option the SSN should arrive within 2 or 3 weeks – but if not you can visit the SSA office after being in the country for about 1 week.
March 26, 2018 at 08:11
Hi Guys have a question asking for a friend ……
1.I filled both initial application and ds260 Married and put all the details of my husband . but he says he does not want to go with me, i have a marriage cert
What can i do ? since he does not want to take me to the embassy or to travel with me.
2. This man is not the father of my Kid so the birth cert does not appear his name can this bring more complications on my case ?
Please advise…. thank you.
March 26, 2018 at 08:57
Hi maybe I can help you with this:
1- If you are the principal winner you can go to the embassy alone even if u filled a ds260 for him, take your kid(s) and go to the embassy without him then they will grant you and your kids only DV visas
2- there should be no problem if you filled their correct names as per birth certificate or passport
March 26, 2018 at 17:46
This answer is almost correct. However, the embassy may have 2 concerns. One is how the single parent will survive (public charge concerns), and the other could be proving that the mother has full custody of the children.
March 26, 2018 at 08:50
Hi brit;
I was submit ds-260 at the end week of June, 2017 and my case was AF23XXX according visa bulletin my case will be scheduled for may interview however yet I didn’t receive my 2NL
1.is that late submission?
2.when I expect my 2NL?
Please Simon don’t say WAIT&SEE
thanks
March 26, 2018 at 17:48
1. No
2. Be patient.
March 26, 2018 at 08:51
Hi
Thank you for all the support that helped me alot much appreciated. My question is that I have my GC in my possession now, when I enter the US do I have to use the same passport that had my DV1 Visa or I can use the renewed passport?
March 26, 2018 at 17:47
New passport plus GC is fine.
March 28, 2018 at 07:11
Did you mean new passport withoit DV visa is ok ?
March 28, 2018 at 17:00
I mean what I said.
March 26, 2018 at 08:52
Hi brit got a problem pls on my ds260 form I didn’t specify my Advanced level but did mention of my university degree
1 please will that affect me ??
2 and I chose dat I atended 1 academic institutions which I mention the university instead of secondary school please will it affect my case???? Tanks
March 26, 2018 at 17:47
You have not completed the DS260 correctly. If you are not already scheduled you should unlock and correct that. If already scheduled, you will perhaps need to explain at the interview. Take proof of all education to the interview.
March 26, 2018 at 17:55
Ok brit got my advance level ,my admission letter into the university with me and also my university degree will take all that to the embassy I am schedule for may pls can it delay or affect my visa????
March 26, 2018 at 18:01
That is up to the CO – but it should be OK.
March 26, 2018 at 14:12
Hi Brit,
My Visa expires on 23rd July. Will there be any immigration problems if I travel by 4th of July?
March 26, 2018 at 15:39
Why would it be a problem when you arrive 19 days PRIOR to the visa expiration date? This has been answered so many times. Some people really put no effort on this blog. Be respectful and appreciative of all the time and energy invested by Simon a bit, people and use common sense
March 26, 2018 at 15:53
So on point.
March 26, 2018 at 17:43
As has been pointed out – this is common sense.
March 26, 2018 at 17:23
Dear Simon. I have a question related to the proof of financial standing. Is ok to print out the e-statements sent by the bank or is it better to request the official bank statements with the bank stamps? Could you please advise?
Although my number is current for May (EU16XXX), I am still waiting for the interview date letter. Do you think that it is possible that my interview will be scheduled in June? Thank you for your feedback.
March 26, 2018 at 17:29
Whether the embassy accepts estatements or not would be up to the CO. There is no formal guidance.
Some May 2NLs are still expected, otherwise June.
March 31, 2018 at 12:36
Hi Inci,
Have you edit DS-260 since first submit?
Thanks
April 3, 2018 at 06:04
Hi Akin,
I have never edited DS-260 forms since submission. Have you received your 2NL yet?
Are you a Turkish? If yes, I have a question about the birth certificate. How do you get your birth certificate? We got a document called “Dogum Kayit Ornegi” from Nufus Idaresi. Do you know if this document needs to be translated into English?
April 3, 2018 at 08:06
Hi Inci,
My CN high then your CN. I hope, I will receive my 2NL in June. Did you check your status on CEAC?
https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/
You need to get “islak imzali ve kirmizi muhurlu nufus kayit ornegi” from Nufus Mudurlugu for everyone (you need to get this document for you, your spouse and if you have children, for them, for everyone)
If your embassy in Ankara and if you burn and live in Turkey, you don’t need to English translation.
April 3, 2018 at 08:13
Also you can check nasilgreencardaldim web site, very helpful for Turkish people.
March 26, 2018 at 17:47
Hi britsimon ,is dv 2019 seems to be safe or not?
March 26, 2018 at 18:02
It will only be “safe” after October 1.
March 26, 2018 at 17:47
form I didn’t specify my Advanced level but did mention of my university degree
1 please will that affect me ??
2 and I chose dat I atended 1 academic institutions which I mention the university instead of secondary school please will it affect my case???? Tanks
March 26, 2018 at 19:01
Hii brit sir, I’m from Nepal and my case is current now for may interview.
March 26, 2018 at 19:12
My question is:
1. Can i open and check ds 260 form?
2.when can i expect to get the 2nd letter?
March 26, 2018 at 19:50
1. Yes
2. I would expect more May interviews 2NLs to go out this week.
March 26, 2018 at 20:36
Hi Brit, I am looking at the Ceac data from 20.03.18 and trying to understand the CN in Albania. There are 296 ready cases in the embassy in Tirana.? From the CN1625 (submitted DV260 to late, or?) to CN18046. What does this mean? Thanks in advance…
March 26, 2018 at 20:46
You can look at the 2NL files that Xarthisius provides to see whether the older cases are newly scheduled interviews (late DS260 submissions), or people that were scheduled for interview but did not show up.
March 26, 2018 at 21:35
Hi Simon
I have three queries
My case is the SA16XX I have the possibility of having an appointment?
More than twenty years ago I took my social security in the United States to open a bank account
This, can I be hurt?
and finally, a job offer helps at the time of the appointment?
Thank yo
March 26, 2018 at 21:37
1. Maybe – you have some risk.
2. No
3. Only if it is 100% genuine – because it is very unusual to get a job offer when you don’t already live in the country.
March 26, 2018 at 23:19
Hey simon
There is a spelling mistakes in my wife’s mother name that i wrote it in the DS260 and i’m the winner my interview is in may do you prefer to translate her name like i wrote it in the application or the right way and change it in the interview. Thanks
March 27, 2018 at 05:22
Change at the interview.
March 27, 2018 at 00:46
Hi Mr Simon,
1. I lived in Fiji till 22 yrs of age, so I need to get a police clearance certificate from there.
2. And another set of police clearance from Australia, been living here since my migration 10 yrs ago.
I have changed my name legally in Australia through name change deed.
So do I get police clearance on my old name from Fiji since that name was prevalent at that time. Or do I get it under both names for Fiji? In Australia, I get it under my new name only. Let me know, hopefully I understand this correctly.
Thanks
March 27, 2018 at 05:21
Old name for Fiji, new for Aus.
Make sure you have name change paperwork for the interview to explain the connection.
March 27, 2018 at 07:42
Thanks, yes I do have original name change deed papers.
March 30, 2018 at 03:19
Another clarification- Regarding old name for Fiji search…do I get clearance under both maiden and married name in Fiji? Single till 19 yrs then got married and added his surname to mine over there.
Thanks.
March 30, 2018 at 04:17
Use your own judgement.
March 27, 2018 at 00:49
Hello Mr Simon, for the us address on ds260 i noted does not apply for Name of person currently living at address but i typed only the address,is this fine?or must i unlock my ds form 260 and add the person name who gave me the is address and who lives there ?
Thank you
March 27, 2018 at 01:05
It’s fine.
March 27, 2018 at 02:53
When one gets placed on AP, does the embassy hold visa numbers for them?
March 27, 2018 at 05:17
No. If the case crosses from one month to another the visa is re-allocated. Once approved the embassy have to request a new visa – and that can cause delay.
March 27, 2018 at 03:03
Dear Simon,
I am on F1 visa and I am filling DS260 now (I know it is really late but that is not a point.) I decided for CP. My question is: I am employed by my father’s company in my home country (it’s 1/8 contract). Once a year when I come back to my home country I help him with his paperwork ect… Is it still legal that I am on F1 visa here and emplyed by somebody in another country? I just realized that because there is a question in DS260 form about my current occupation and technically I must put there that I am hired by my father’s company in my home country. So can they assume that I work while I am on F1 visa?
I am concered because I read some articles online and there were many people asking if they can work as a freelancers, or if they can run their buissneses while in USA on F1 visa and the question is usually no. (it also depends, some say yes, some no.)
Thank you for your help.
March 27, 2018 at 05:16
I am not expert in AOS matters, but I doubt that is a problem.
AOS expertise here:
https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2018-aos-only.336256/
March 27, 2018 at 06:28
Thank you for your answer. As I said, it is not an AOS process, I decided for CP (Consular process). I will come back to my home country for an interview. Does it change anything?
As I said, 80% of the Internet says that this is fraud (even if I have naver worked while I was in USA, I just didn’t know it may be fraud.) That’s why I am concerned.
March 27, 2018 at 06:32
This has no impact on CP.
80% of the internet is nonsense.
March 27, 2018 at 06:57
Sorry for asking you this questions but just to verify: if they see in my DS260 that I was hired in my home country while I was in USA on F1 visa, will they deny my DS260 and I will not be invited for an interview?
March 27, 2018 at 16:16
I answered already.
March 27, 2018 at 04:51
Dear sir,
Its almost 3week sir ,we dont have to received any 2ltr for MAY interview (nepal applicants) may I know the reason sir because except nepal other AS region get there 2ltr earlier!!

Hello Simon. My question is : if selectees can check their status in May, why are we required to keep our confirmation numbers till September of the following year ? Are we supposed to check our status regularly after May just in case a selectee is refused for some reason ? and how often should I check my status ?
Thank you

There is sometimes a second draw around October. Not every year.
March 28, 2018 at 11:39
Will we know if there is another draw ?
March 28, 2018 at 15:46
Maybe not.

Good day Brit,
A friend of mine wife won the lottery 2017 and added him.
He said they got a VISA, schedule his flight in two weeks. To
my greatest surprised he massage me saying the embassy
call him and cancel his VISA am saying cross check it.
Why? He said they have overseas the amount of visa.
Questions
1. is this truth, can you get a visa cause of delay to travel your visa get
cancel. (not expire visa )
His story is worrisome to me cause I also have my visa and preparing to traveled in few months before expire date.
March 27, 2018 at 16:13
No DV2017 visas were issued after September 30th at the latest, and visa expiry dates are based on medical dates plus 6 months. So – your friend probably has an expired visa.

Hi BritSimon
I had my visa approved at my interview this morning (OC). I just wanted to thank you. If i didn’t have your website to refer to I don’t believe I would have been as prepared as I was. I saw a number of people turn up very ill prepared and be sent away. The interview was so fast my head was spinning. The guys were really friendly and asked me 3 or 4 questions and that’s it. Almost a year of anxiety and 48 hrs of nervous nausea and it’s all over. All the energy, money and time spent collecting documents and collating information was all worth it. I’m happy to give you more feedback on my experience if you think it might be helpful.
All the best to those waiting and remember….. be honest and be prepared.
Thank you BritSimon
March 27, 2018 at 14:03
Congratulations Wendy…it’s such a wait of anxiety. Thanks.

Hi sir,
I had my interview in February without my medical report and I was place on AP. I submitted the medical report this march on the 18th and my CEAC status was updated on the 20th but still on AP on the 23th i saw another update and this time my CEAC status was changed to READY for the interview I already did my interview so I became very confused it stayed on READY till yesterday the 26th March and was updated twice yesterday and was finally reverted back to AP and till today the 27th, I’m still stuck on AP please what do you think about my case please sir I need a full explanation why it went to READY and then back to AP Again
March 27, 2018 at 14:19
I can’t give you a “full explanation “. All you can do is wait.
March 28, 2018 at 17:09
Thank You very much for your endless help to us sir I really appreciate.
Today my CEAC status changed to ISSUED. From AP to READY, to AP to ISSUED today
I have some few questions to ask you sir
1) After my interview the CO told me that once I submit my medical report and valid passport, I will be contacted when to pass and pick up my passport and visa. But they did not call me so what do you advise I do sir?
2) can I start planning my trip or by some means this issued could still be reverted?
3) the procedure in which my case was process is it a normal procedure? I mean from AP after a few days, to READY after a few days, back to AP and then ISSUED after 4days.
Thanks for your kind attention.
I had my interview in the US embassy Yaounde Cameroon in February and was under AP because my passport was delaying and in effect my medical report couldn’t be signed because of no passport number on it.
March 28, 2018 at 17:35
1. Again, wait. You really need to learn patience.
2. Wait until you have the visa in hand.
3. Well it was normal in your case…

Good evening
I played the DV lottery with my grandson and won. Before playing i had adopted him since 2007. In playing the lottery, I put this child as my child but the birth certificate carries the mother named . It is possible to legaly adopt your grandchild
What should I say
May 9, 2018 at 17:43
You need to show legal adoption papers that were finalized at least 2 years before the lottery interview.
