May 11, 2018 at 04:53
The CO decides.
May 11, 2018 at 01:01
Hello Brit – can you explain why you think OC won’t go current this year? Many thanks. Kris
May 11, 2018 at 01:45
Because they selected FAR to many people.
This year there were 3863 selectees.
DV2017 was 1450
DV2016 was 1500
May 10, 2018 at 23:12
Hi Brit, any suggestion of what to do with single children over 21, how long should I wait to request a family reunion. You can travel with me and enter with your B1 / B2 visa and then request a change of status. I do not know if you can comment on this. regards
May 11, 2018 at 00:33
It will take YEARS to bring a child over 21.

Hi Brit,is there anc chance for 26…. EU?
May 10, 2018 at 21:34
Really – the only thing I can say is “wait and see”.
May 10, 2018 at 20:42
Your case has been updated, please log back into your account to view the details.
Mr Brit I just got the above message from the embassy but when I check on the CEAC website there is no new updates except that my case last update has change to 8th may, but still AP
From your experience which account are the referring me to

I don’t know.
May 10, 2018 at 19:37
visa 2018. visa 2005. the same…am I right ?
May 10, 2018 at 19:58
Wait and see.
May 10, 2018 at 19:18
Hi Brit, I was analysing xarthisius chart for EU. The only fact is that there are 122xx visas issued. Ok, there are 4xxx visas ready, but what calculation is KCC making for the cut offs? Ready cases are not all at the end issued visas also AP stay at half AP, how do they make their mathematics? In some moment they have to recalculate and to see the real situation , or? But not at September, 30th. Sorry, maybe stupid question, but today’s numbers made me more confused. Thanks a lot.
May 10, 2018 at 19:56
Don’t forget, there are more than 4.5 months of processing left. The visa issuance pace for EU is running about 2000 per month. So – if they hold the quota to 18300 (and some of those will be AOS cases) they only have around 5500 visas left. So – unless they slow the VB as they have, they would run out in July. Of course – we can’t be certain that they won’t allow the quota to be exceeded for the reasons I described in a post last week. BUT – if they were going to allow more than the 18300, you would think they would have allowed issuance pace to continue.
May 10, 2018 at 21:15
Brit, I’m waiting and seeing, but please help me make this analysis for the SA region: If we add the 728 issued visas, the 123 in AP and the 373 ready (for May, June and July) it results in aprox. 1224 visas. If the quota at 50000 for the region equals more or less 1519 visas (3,037%), there would be hypothetically 295 visas left to be split between August and September, in case they decide to fill that quota minus the approved AoS cases. Am I lost or is it a logical appreciation?
May 10, 2018 at 21:38
Something like that, although there could be visas from earlier month interviews that were on AP.
May 10, 2018 at 21:39
Actually I see you are assuming all AP and ready. So yes – sort of…
May 10, 2018 at 19:08
Hello , quick question does a certificate that state I am enrolled at university satisfy the requirement for high school diploma ? I am asking here because the embassy doesn’t answer my question.
Thank you
May 10, 2018 at 19:47
No it does NOT satisfy the requirement. It is possible to gain entry to a University without the normal formal course of secondary education. So – take care to prove you meet the education standard.
May 10, 2018 at 16:58
Hi today i get e-mail from kkc about unlock ds-260 but can’t change location for interview. i think is wrong about interview location in first time i fill “Yes, send my case to USCIS.” i can’t change it.
May 10, 2018 at 17:10
You have to change your address (if that is why you are changing it) and then ask KCC to change the location.
May 10, 2018 at 17:13
i want to know my case just delay right
May 10, 2018 at 16:57
Dear Brit Simon,
I activated my LPR status in December 2017 and have not returned to the US since I am selling my assets and preparing for my permanent move in October 2018.
Based on the law below, should I visit the US briefly before the 180 days have passed and then continue with my permanent move in October 2018?
INA ACT 101 13(C) II
13 C. “An alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States shall not be regarded as seeking an admission into the United States for purposes of the immigration laws unless the alien-
(ii) has been absent from the United States for a continuous period in excess of 180 days”
I tirelessly pursued getting my green card and hope not to risk losing it silly and easily.
Thank you sincerely for your response.

May 10, 2018 at 16:17
Hey, I applied for the Visa Lottery this year and now that the results started showing, I enter my code but as soon as I enter it, it says its not valid, and I read all your suggestions from the previous years so I’m sure I’m not doing anything wrong. Can you help me?
May 10, 2018 at 16:57
The results are not released until May 15.
May 10, 2018 at 15:39
Sorry for disturbing,I wanted to ask which number are your predictions for September for a green card and why is this a little people going in a month?
May 10, 2018 at 15:53
All I will say is wait and see.
May 10, 2018 at 17:11

May 10, 2018 at 17:16
Seriously???? I answer that about 100 times every day!!!!
May 10, 2018 at 19:05
Guys I recommend all of you to read “Simon’s biography” before you address to him in “any inapropriate” manner like I used to see here on this forum.
I am quite sure that he is older than anyone else on this forum; for some of us he has the same age of our fathers.
Respect to Mr Simon. I am on this forum for almost one year and today I had a chance to read your biography. The content made my day. Keep it up and God (has already) blessed you!
May 10, 2018 at 19:44
LOL – I am not so old!
May 10, 2018 at 15:38
Hi Simon, today I lost my hope. I am around EU 23500 and quite frankly I am totally disappointed.
I don’t think the number will be reached considering holidays time. Could you please comment? Thanks a lot!
Bye
Fausto
May 10, 2018 at 15:39
lol…
May 10, 2018 at 15:54
You simply have to wait and see.
May 10, 2018 at 14:22
so sad, it will not see 26000
May 10, 2018 at 14:30
I feel like somebody just kicked me.
May 10, 2018 at 14:18
They just do not intend to increase the pace at all instead decrease it. Taking into consideration summer vacation the embassies capacity will decline and we may most probably see final cut off number below 23000. This is just terrible OMG
May 10, 2018 at 14:12
Hi Brit, hi everyone
Did you see EU cut number for july 21900. This is killing us man
May 10, 2018 at 14:30
are you serious!! did they publish the VB ,,,,????
May 10, 2018 at 12:54
Hi Brit ..we sent our ds at the end of june..our case number EU209xxx..what do you think , wait for interview in july ?
May 10, 2018 at 13:56
You can figure that out!
May 10, 2018 at 11:49
Dear Simon, could “ready” (the one after AP) mean AP has been completed or is been completing soon? Our status say ready since first of May.
Is there anyone with similar experience?
Thanks in advance for answers
May 10, 2018 at 14:00
It could mean that – it could mean other things too – which is why you just have to wait.
May 10, 2018 at 11:06
Hello brit hope you fine . My sister dv visa been issued today thanks for you man thanks alot. From iraq .
Dv 2018winner .
May 10, 2018 at 14:00
Great!
May 10, 2018 at 00:53
Hi Brit
My inner instincts predict 1600 could be the final cut off for OC region…Hopefully
May 9, 2018 at 22:43
Hi Simon,
Thanks for all your help in the past. I’ve never seen this happen before and I’m wondering if you’ve heard about it or have a solution?
My wife and I recently returned from our activation trip. We were planning on returning to the US in October permanently.
My GC has been received at the address supplied at the POE but today my wife received a I-797C form requesting she attend an interview to take biometrics.
The form says missing the interview will result in the application being abandoned. Given we are back in Australia, there is no way we can make the interview.
Can we delay the biometrics until we return to the US, or can we consider the journey over?
May 9, 2018 at 22:48
The wording on the I-797C is unfortunate. It is normally used for people that are *in* the process of applying for a GC. You have yours, so you do not *have* an application that can be abandoned. So – no need to worry about that wording!
Yes I have known them need new biometrics after an activation. I think it is where the original biometrics weren’t good enough, and could not be matched correctly to the prints she gave at the activation entry. That does not mean you have a problem – it’s just a matter of redoing the biometrics.
Contact USCIS by phone and discuss how this can be accomplished. You have not done anything wrong, so you have nothing to fear – it’s just “procedure”.
May 9, 2018 at 23:04
Thanks Simon. As usual, you deliver!
May 9, 2018 at 22:08
Thank you for being an amazing source of knowledge.
I’m low OC13XX living in London. I just got married last week and me and my partner have submitted our DS-260s today.
1. do you think there will be enough time for KCC to process the applications for when my case (hopefully) goes current?
2. the fact that we’ve asked for an interview in London not Sydney – are we likely to get an interview quicker because there are less cases being sent here?
Many thanks Simon
May 9, 2018 at 22:17
1. Yes
2. No
May 9, 2018 at 22:23
Thanks – just left you a donation. appreciate all your efforts
May 9, 2018 at 22:28
Well thanks for that!!
May 9, 2018 at 20:15
Hello. to all the Brits, I must say first that this is a wonderfull blog. Great work.
Miy question is this: I am an engineer right now but , recently got a schoolarship to persue a Master in a University of Europe, Can this be a advantage or some how give points in my interview ???
May 9, 2018 at 20:20
No.
May 9, 2018 at 18:44
Hi brit, I have to change my passport does this makes any problem !?
May 9, 2018 at 19:45
No.
May 9, 2018 at 18:02
Will this month be EU25xxx? . . Please do not say.wait and see
May 9, 2018 at 18:05
I have nothing to say since you don’t want me to say the only sensible answer.
May 9, 2018 at 18:13
are not you doing statistics? . Are not you experienced?
May 9, 2018 at 19:45
I am experienced – and that is why I am telling people to wait and see. Those who think they know the cutoffs don’t understand the various factors in play.
May 9, 2018 at 19:03
I would not expect too see that number. 22500-22800 in my opinion (according to current pace)
May 9, 2018 at 20:13
Fingers crossed… I’m not sleeping anymore until the next numbers…
May 9, 2018 at 20:51
I think we will see something around 23k in July, 26k in August and finishing around 29k
May 9, 2018 at 16:26
Thanks man. You are a godsend
May 9, 2018 at 15:51

Thank you Brit for this blog. I have been accessing it almost every single day since the results was announced. Today my wife was successfully approved at Accra embassy. You know after winning, it needs another miracle and winning magic to make it in Accra embassy lol. I am extremely happy today. Thank God and Thank you once again.
May 9, 2018 at 13:20
Hey Brit I had my interview today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia…… But the CO is put me on AP b/c of doubting in my education background (transcript) I was learned my highschool in another region of Ethiopia and when my name that appears on transcript was written in the region spelling mode and when I apply for DV-2018, I was written my name by using formal English writing and after 2nl I changed my inorder to change my name into formal writing, but the transcripts were prepared by using the same photo, and at the time of interview he doubt me that I have provided fraud transcripts an he put me on AP…….so how long my case will be on AP?is it a serious case?
May 9, 2018 at 14:08
I cannot predict the time nor the outcome.
May 9, 2018 at 13:11
Hi brit can i used my bank statemen instead of affidavit of support?
May 9, 2018 at 14:07
USE THE FAQ!!!!!!
May 9, 2018 at 13:00
Hi Britsimon,
Do you knoe any iranian who was accepted in the interview for DV2018? If Iranian can not be accepted because of the ban, why is still iran considered to be an eligible country for DV2019? is there any exception that some people could get the DV visa even with the presence of the ban?
May 9, 2018 at 14:09
Yes, Iranians with dual citizenship or already in the USA can be approved.
May 9, 2018 at 12:26
Hi Simon
Regarding Police Checks.
I am an Australian citizen.
I lived and worked in the UK for 8 months in 2008.
I understand that because this was less than 12mths that I do not require a Police Check from the UK.
My question is- should i get this just in case? Or wait and see if at the inteview they ask me to get it?
My interview is 12 June.
Thanks
May 9, 2018 at 14:10
I would get it.
May 9, 2018 at 11:24
Dear Simon .Thank you very much for your help .Do you still think that it wont appear current this year for EU .Our case number is Eu30xxx.
May 9, 2018 at 14:10
EU won’t go current.
May 9, 2018 at 14:31
EU Won’t go current ,but there’s 3 months left !!!!
May 9, 2018 at 09:58
my wife have only secondary school certificate with no working experience Is it a higher risk of not getting the visa
QUESTION #2 .Am not the principal tho,Can I add my registered company certificate to our document ?Thank You
May 9, 2018 at 14:14
1. If she is the principal, she must meet the education requirement for your country.
2. Why – that document is pointless.
May 9, 2018 at 07:24
Dear SIRS/MADAME is someone with extended family (wife and 2 or more kids) could share your interview experience with us .please share your interview experience as it will help us a lot.
I am from Ethiopia I will have my interview on June.
Thanks in advance

Hello, Thank you very much for this educative blog. We got our visas recently and are yet to travel. I got married in Oct and my passport and visa is still in my maiden name. How do I get my green card to be in my married name?
May 9, 2018 at 14:18
You will have to do that in the USA.
May 9, 2018 at 06:30
Hi Brit.
In case of not having a passport as traveling documents , what can I do or bring as traveling documents to the interview? Since in my country the Passports are so expensive and on top of that I have 4 applicants to travel with
May 9, 2018 at 14:19
You need passports. If you think they are too expensive how can you handle all the fees, flights accommodation and so on?????
May 10, 2018 at 15:02
Thank you
May 9, 2018 at 02:51
HI BritSimon,
Thanks for your help. I have my interview next month in Sydney. I am Australian Citizen.
1) My plan would be to go the USA within the first 6 months but return to work in Australia for 11 months before moving to the USA. Will I be taxed by the US on income I earn during that 11 month period?
2) Does this mean I will have to pay double tax, both for Australia and USA?
3) What if for some reason the USA doesn’t work out and I want to return to Australia, what is the process to abandon my green card?
4) are there any legal or tax implications for abandoning my green card?
thanks for your help.
Brian
May 9, 2018 at 03:23
1. You will have to report the income, yes. Whether you pay tax or not depends on the amounts.
2. Typically not – but it depends on tax rules.
3. Google it.
4. See 3.
May 9, 2018 at 02:42

Hi Brit
I am a DV 2018 winner from Oceania region with 13**. I had applied for student visa 18 yrs ago ( I was single then) and it was rejected. I had stated that in my DS260.Do you think this will affect my interview for DV 2018?
Thank you
May 9, 2018 at 00:06
No.
May 9, 2018 at 00:21
Thank you for your response. Much appreciated ☺
May 8, 2018 at 22:40
Hello Simon;
I am really sorry if this question has been asked and answered somewhere on this forum:
I would like to know the validity time of visa.
Let say I did my medicals in June which will expire in November(6 months) and was put on AP till august; mid august: visa granted. When will my visa expire? I saw somewhere here is medicals expiration date plus six month. Is it correct? that my visa will expire november plus six month.
Thanks
May 8, 2018 at 23:02
The expiry date of the visa will be the medical date plus six months (the day you had the medical).
May 8, 2018 at 23:08
Thanks! Very clear.
May 8, 2018 at 22:39
Hello, Brit. If in the DS260 I answered “no” in the question “Does this job require at least 2 years of training or experience?” for my former job as a college professional, should I unlock and correct it?
May 8, 2018 at 23:03
Doesn’t matter – no need to update.
