Hi,
I had an interview on last Tuesday, but the interviewer said I had to send another Russia Police Record which needs to issued by a correct place that American government accepted to complete our case.
Russia is not my birth country. I had the interview in my birth country.
Does anyone know what procedure we need to do after I got the Russia Police Record in Russia before I bring it back to my home country? Apostille?
I found some statement at https://ru.usembassy.gov/embassy-consulates/st-petersburg/u-s-citizenship-services/apostilles-document-legalization/:
An apostille is the equivalent of an international notarial seal. Any document which bears an apostille is legally valid for use in all countries party to the Hague Convention of 1961 on the legalization of documents. This includes both the United States and Russia.
Thank you!

Follow the instructions!
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/RussianFederation.html
May 11, 2018 at 20:43
Is this page(visa reciprocity) indicate to country of birth? Or nationality? Place of the interview????
May 11, 2018 at 20:52
You decide which countries you need to check, based on your background. If you have lived in Russia for example you would want to know how to obtain the police cert in Russia.

Hi Brit,
Do you kindly know what is happening to EU. Why is the case number so low?
Yesterday, a new visa bulletin has been release with a deceleration and I am around 26700. Is it possibile to have an increase of 10.000 like the one of Africa this month?
Does the Europe go current?
Thanks
Best regards
Marco
May 11, 2018 at 14:29
EU cannot go current. The pace of issuance has been high. All you can do is wait and see what happens.
May 11, 2018 at 15:20
Hi, what does mean that the pace is high? In past at this point my case was already been called. Do you still think that this year we will close EU at around 33000?
Thanks
Regards
Marco
May 11, 2018 at 15:44
No – as I have said for some weeks now – the numbers I previously considered safe are now at risk. ISSUANCE pace has been high.
May 11, 2018 at 15:47
Ok what is good forecast for Europe?
May 11, 2018 at 15:55
How is possibile that in africa we a move of around 10.000 in a month and in europe of only 1600?
May 11, 2018 at 16:02
Dear Marco, it’s not about the number difference. The big gap isn’t really a big gap if you look closely at the data. Responsivity, real cases, issuance and refusals rate come into play so you might only focus on the 10,000 jump but the actual case numbers called for interviews are significantly fewer than that. So no need to compare the 2 regions when they’re evolving on two different processes.
May 11, 2018 at 16:15
Yes thanks that’s clear..I am very sorry for multiple questions but I am going out of mind because of that..I can imagine that I waited a year for disappearing dream
May 11, 2018 at 16:20
How is currently the responsitivity rate for Europe?
May 11, 2018 at 16:34
About 80% for EU vs 60% for AF of response rate
May 11, 2018 at 16:45
Do you know how many green cards are missing to be issued in total?
May 11, 2018 at 17:02
Well, since the quota for EU is about 18300, and as of May 7th, about 12300 visas were issued an about 1250 were on AP so between that date and September 30th, There should be about 5000 visas left to be issued IF THE QUOTAS ARE TO BE MET (maybe they’ll be a bit less or a bit more, but these are approximate results) So let’s go for Simon’s signature comment: WAIT AND SEE, as it is the safest ans most sensible thing to say at this point. DV2018 has clearly been different from the norm.
May 11, 2018 at 17:38
Yes 5000 green card to be assigned with a response rate around 80% means around 6150 is it correct the reasoning under current hypothesis.
May 11, 2018 at 07:07
I ordered a police report with appostile in Kazakhstan just in case. It might be helpful.
PS I haven’t had an interview yet.
May 11, 2018 at 10:11
Thank you, Dmitriy!
May 11, 2018 at 08:01
Dear Brit
I’m grateful to the almighty God for his blessings in everything and also thank you for your guidance and efforts you continue to give globally. May God bless you always.
Had a successful interview on 03.05.2018
And received my VISA yesterday 10.05. 2018 and I planned to leave my country next weekend in order to get my paperwork started and enable me to work as soon as possible. Here’s my questions.
1)Is it necessary to pay the USCIS Immigrant fee before I leave?
2) Or , can I make the payment in America?
Thanks so much.

Hello Brit,
I have received my second letter. And I am planning to marry and want to add my wife. .. My interview is on 18th of June. Can I contact the embassy for spouse. . Will it create any problem for my interview .
Thank you
May 11, 2018 at 14:01
You can contact them, see what they say.
May 11, 2018 at 11:21
Hi Brit,
1. Will new visa bulletin portions still be announced for July, August and September interviews respectively on June, July and August? Or new visa bulletins will be released only for two months and not three?
2. My number is EU25XXX do you think chances are high to be interviewed?
Thank you in advance!
May 11, 2018 at 13:55
1. There are 2 VBs left
2. Wait and see.
May 11, 2018 at 12:00
Hi Britsimon
Have been following up on this issue of photos
have you had any disqualification on someone who used 2017 photo. Refer to this
Entrant photograph(s) – Recent photographs (taken within the last six months) of yourself, your
spouse, and all your children. See Submitting a Digital Photograph for compositional and
technical specifications. You do not need to include a photograph for a spouse or child who is
already a U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident, but you will not be penalized if you do.
We cannot accept group photographs; you must submit a photograph for each individual. Your
entry may be disqualified or your visa application refused if the photographs have been
manipulated in any way, or do not meet the specifications explained below. Submitting the same
photograph that was submitted with last year’s entry (DV-2017) will result in disqualification. See
Submitting a Digital Photograph for more information.
May 11, 2018 at 13:51
No disqualifications that I know of.
May 11, 2018 at 12:26
Hello Brit,Tell me what to do? I have this situation.
I divorced my first wife 12 years ago. I do not know where they live now I do not support relations with them. In the original entry form, I did not specify a child before the age of 21 because there was no possibility to send a photo of the child. In the DS260 form, I also did not specify the child. Tht child does not immigrate with me to the United States. Interview in the embassy in June. My case number is current.
I am perfectly understand that I will be disqualified during the interview at the embassy.
I have questions, please answer me what should I do?
1. How will the KCC or the embassy know that I have a child if I have not indicated the child myself?
2. If my case number is current what does this mean? So I passed the test and all my documents are in order?
3. If I know in advance that I am being disqualified on the interview, should I go for the interview?
4. Or go to the interview and explain to the consul the reason or is it useless? Were there any cases of obtaining a visa in these cases?
5. Do not go to the interview at the embassy to not waste money?
6. Do I need to write a letter to the embassy and refuse the interview?
7. If I do not go to the interview then I will be able to participate next year. (the child will be more than 21 years old) or will I be disqualified forever for failure to attend an interview?
Please answer all my questions and tell me please how do I act in my case?
Thank you
May 11, 2018 at 13:50
1. Official Records perhaps. DEpends on the country.
2. No – simply means your number is in a range.
3. Your choice – do you like throwing money away?
4. Useless.
5. See 4
6. No
7. You can participate again.
May 11, 2018 at 13:35

May 11, 2018 at 13:48
hi simon i had an interview may 10 the consular gave me a letter says “section (a)(4) which prohibit the issuance of a visa to anyone likely at anytime to become a public charge” so this means i already lost my visa permanently or it has a chance to get. with regards
May 11, 2018 at 15:29
1. What embassy was that?
2. Did you fail to show any financials or affidavit of support?
3. Is there a medical reason?
4. Did the CO say you could provide something else to overcome the ineligibility?
May 12, 2018 at 08:18
1.From Ethiopia Addis Ababa
2.I did not try because my sponsor not send me till any document
3.NO
4.I ask him one quotation can i change my sponsor i said he says yes you can but i did not the procedure i told to my sponsor he also did not how to going on i ask him to send to me financial support letter and affidavit support form I-134
May 12, 2018 at 14:09
OK, well there might be a chance. Get an I-134. Make sure the person providing it is someone you know, and meets the income requirements, and provides the correct supporting documents. Do this as fast as possible.

May 11, 2018 at 14:11
Hi Simon, in the previous years there has been a drop in the DV numbers being current for interviews in August due to holiday season? Should we expect this now? I have EU 23500 and am loosing hopes month after month but I don’t give up… Thanks for your continued feedback to all of us here! Best, Fausto
May 11, 2018 at 15:25
Holiday season affects some embassies perhaps but not significantly.
May 11, 2018 at 16:39
Fausto, I’m at EU238xx and I can really feel your pain but I think we will get our chance either in August or September!
I started this process hoping I would be in the US by June for sure and now here we are!
I asked BritSimon on another post whether I should be scared with my CN because he has read the data with the quota and all but he didn’t reply because he has a life but nevertheless don’t lose hope we will get one chance.
May 12, 2018 at 08:56
Thanks Soulbrownies, let’s keep the fingers crossed then!!!
May 11, 2018 at 15:02
Hi simon
accodring to the last VB I’m now current my case number is AF33XXX but I have seen many one who are current in june but they didn’t receive the 2NL yet especialy for winner arround 26XXX and 27XXX and 28XXX my question is : is it sure that i pass my interview in jully ? and if i didn’t receive the 2NL can I contact KCC for this kind of problem
thank’s
May 11, 2018 at 15:24
You are correct that some embassies are struggling to accommodate the June interviews – so wait and see what happens in your case.
May 11, 2018 at 15:41
Hi Simon. May I ask you? I’m in States as a LPR since november 2013. First 2 years I lived in my country for studying reasons, entering in US once a year. I definitely entering on nov 2015. Can I apply now for the citizenship? What’s the right time? Thank you
May 11, 2018 at 17:57
I only answer DV lottery questions.
May 11, 2018 at 16:10
Hello everyone.
I would like to share with my experience with you. But before writing anything, I first want to thank Mr. Britsimon for his work, his courage and his sacrifices to answer everyone, may God bless you britsimon.Your block is of paramount importance for the benefit of the dv.
I will explain what I have during my whole procedure. I was selected on 02May 2017 and I waited 07 months after to do my interview. And yet I had a very good number. The day of my interview I realized that I forgot my birth certificate to show you how strict Americans are. After the interview, the consular officer told me to pick up this paper and then make another appointment. It had cost me a lot. It took me a long time to get that famous talk. Some time later the interview is fixed again. They are taking my documents including the passport. I thought it ended, so it becomes pure for what because after taking my documents they gave me nothing you can stay tuned. 06 months later they contacted me to inform me that my medical visit has expired. So another is necessary. I did it and I made another appointment 15 days later, that is to say on April 24, 2018. When I came they took it and gave me a green ticket and told me welcome to the united states. 15 days later I returned labas and now I have my visa in pocket alkhamdoulila. The text is long but it was just for you to ask to be patient because she is always right. Months I waited 1 year farm.
Thanks again to britsimon and good luck for the rest you will all get your visa. Bye
May 11, 2018 at 17:55
Congratulations!
May 12, 2018 at 19:24
Amazing story!! Waiting too medical nearly expired now. Which country are you?
May 11, 2018 at 17:57
Hello brit, my wife and I was successful during our dv interview but the thing is we did not pay for our green card while we were still in Africa now that we I in the USA I try applying for our green card which cost $ 440.00 USD but my question is
Will I need to upload a photos for my wife and I while applying online or the same photos for us that is in our Visa will still be used by the US government? Thanks a lot Brit God really used you to be a blessing to us.
May 11, 2018 at 18:14
You don’t need to upload a photo.
May 11, 2018 at 21:40
Hi Simon,
I’m current for July interview in AD, I got my police certificate from my home country by late June 2017, meaning it will be expired (by weeks) at the date of the interview…
I read this statement in the instructions page:
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-5-collect-supporting-documents.html
quote
“Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:
You are more than 16 years old;
The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
You still live in the country that issued the certificate.
Unquote.
Question: does it mean my police certificate will be accepted since I haven’t returned to my home country since the PC was issued?
Thank you.
May 11, 2018 at 22:22
Why run the risk??? Get a new one.
May 11, 2018 at 22:30
Well! Not that easy, it requires a family trip to home country while kids are still in schools where I currently live 🙁
I cancelled my annual vacation to catch the interview..
May 11, 2018 at 22:35
What country?
May 11, 2018 at 22:42
Home country: Egypt
Country of residence and interview: UAE
May 11, 2018 at 22:45
Well I suppose you need to decide whether to take the risk, or the inconvenience.
May 11, 2018 at 22:10
Can i unlock my form ds260 while am current before scheduled by kccd?
May 11, 2018 at 22:30
TRY!
May 11, 2018 at 22:45
Hi BritSimon,
This is a bit of a difficult question to answer I’m sure, but with your background and understanding of the Lottery: do you think we’ll have less submissions as a result of the DV-2019 technical issue?
We’ve seen technical issues in the past, wondering if you learned anything from those years that might give an indication of the implications of this year’s issue.
May 11, 2018 at 22:46
I think common sense says we will have less entries.
May 11, 2018 at 22:48
That was quick – thanks!
Get some rest before the storm 😉
May 11, 2018 at 23:18
Simon,
I navigated Embassy website (AD) and found this in FAQ:
Q: For how long is a police certificate valid?
A: For your country of residence, a police certificate is considered valid for 12 months from the date of issuance. Police certificates obtained from other countries where you previously resided are valid indefinitely, provided that you do not return to the country and reside for six months or more.
Does this eliminate the risk providing this is stated the by the embassy where the interview will be held?
I can’t thabk you enough for your continous support.
May 11, 2018 at 23:24
The question is whether they are sure you did not return to that country.
May 11, 2018 at 23:26
And I should add – it doesn’t eliminate the risk. Some people are asked for police certs they shouldn’t need to provide – the CO is free to apply some discretion. That can increase or decrease the risk – my advice is always to eliminate as much risk as you can – accepting that there will always be some risk left.
May 11, 2018 at 23:37
Crystal clear..
Booking our flight tickets 🙂
Thanks a lot.
May 11, 2018 at 23:35

May 12, 2018 at 12:31
Hi Brit. Thanks SO MUCH for all your input. I’ve tried to look on your FAQ and can’t find any info on airlines that don’t allow the The I-551 immigrant stamp. I am due to fly out in 2.5 months as my diversity I-551 visa expires mid August 2018 and want to book my flight now, but really nervous as some airlines simply don’t allow the I-551 immigrant stamp. Qatar for example shows this visa requirement “If the passport shows a stamp “processed for I-551 temporary evidence of lawful admittance for permanent residence valid until receipt of I-551 employment authorized”, such stamp is to be considered Form I-551.” —- The stamp in my visa does not mention “employment authorized”. Is it best to fly direct to US without a stop over in for example Doha or Dakar, but then the ticket will be a lot more expensive. Can you assist please? I don’t want to get to a foreign transit airport and they don’t accept the I-551 visa. Many thanks
May 12, 2018 at 14:24
Stop overthinking. Every airline accepts the I-551.
May 12, 2018 at 13:09

May 12, 2018 at 14:42
If you had followed the instructions and read the reciprocity page, you would know a police cert is not required for Eritrea. Now – read the instructions!
May 12, 2018 at 14:05
You have lots of friends. You would not take advantage of them and charge them money pretending to know stuff and then get the information here for free, would you? I’m sure you donate each time and do not exploit britsimon’s generosity? Quite smelly scheme, little agent.
May 12, 2018 at 14:44
Lol
May 12, 2018 at 14:31
They probably mean one signed by the sponsors husband and wife.

Hi Mr Brit.

May 12, 2018 at 20:51
Is there a male under 26 on the application – if so, you have to click the link on the last page about selective service.
May 13, 2018 at 00:40
No.Theres no male under 26 on the application. Thanks
May 13, 2018 at 02:10
Then the form is incomplete somewhere. Look carefully.
May 12, 2018 at 19:22
Hi Brit
I’m one of the lucky winners of last year dv lotteries. I’m done with the filling of the online visa application form. I have tried to submit it since last week but it is not going through, all I always see is a red arrow on my case number. Pls what could be the problem, and how do I submit it?
May 12, 2018 at 20:53
Is there a male under 26 on the application – if so, you have to click the link on the last page about selective service.
May 13, 2018 at 14:01
As far as I remember, you need to put your case number without zeros to complete the ds260, hope it will work.
May 12, 2018 at 20:24
Hello brit, my wife(main winner) and I was successful during our interview & console told us congratulation approval to give you the visa, all visas was issued during two days for my wife & our kids & for me they requested ds5535 in the second day & i sent it already in the same day , but i don’t know how long for this process or any risk can occurs,
thanks for your efforts
May 12, 2018 at 20:55
I cannot tell you how long that will take.

Hi brit, Our interview is due very soon, in the email specifiying our interview date and time the Embassy did not mention anything about Medical reports except they did mention a Police clearence which we already applied for.
What should we do? Is it required even though they did not mention it?

A medical is ALWAYS required. The instructions are clear about that if you read them.

You need to listen to what I say.
Sometimes they will, sometimes they won’t. So “TRY” is the right answer.

Hi, Brit. I recently found that my cousin whose address I put in my DS260 moved some weeks ago, would it affect my case or should I unlock and update? I am not current yet.

Hello brit Iam in your page after long time. So I want to ask if there was second draw for dv 2018 as in 2017.
Thanks…
May 13, 2018 at 18:11
No – because the first draw already had too many people selected.

Hi Simon,
i want to ask a general question about dv entries.
first of all i am from Jordan, in Jordan our passports have Four names ( First , Father’s , Grandfather’s and Family Name).
in my DV Entry , i wrote my first name , my last name and my father’s name as my middle name , i missed a name ( grandfather’s), is there anything i could do to correct this mistake , is it a crucial error? what should i write in my DS260 Form? the same as i did in the dv entry , or should i use the ” other names used” to write all four names? if so , in the original name space , should i write my full name or as i wrote it in the dv entry form?
Thanks in advance ,
May 14, 2018 at 03:32
THe DS260 should have the legal name that matches your passport/birth cert, and use other names used for other variants.

Hi Brit,
I don’t have a question. I just want to thank you for the paramount work you do here. You help so many people and that alone makes you a hero to many of us. Thanks! We won last year and as you and everybody else here can imagine our lives have revolved around whether or not we will make it to the US. So many big decisions (changing kids school, moving to a new apartment, etc) have been put off because we wanted to wait and save money for the interview and what not. Then I came across your blog. I have come to accept the fact that we are not going to be invited to the interview (case number EU31xxx). In a way, knowing this makes everything go back to normal. We are very sad that we are not making it but at least we can move on with our life. So I want to thank you for that. Had it not been for your blog we would have continued to wait until September.

Thank you for taking the time to say that. Best of luck!
