Hi Simon, my case is 2017EU00013xxx
Should I ask my aunt (a retired lady) or my cousin (a waitress) to fill the i-134? I’m filling the ds 260 for me and my husband and I’m concerned that the CO will deny my application because of their income tax return. Any advice?
August 22, 2016 at 18:43
You have to evaluate their income against the formula. They either meet the income requirement or they don’t.

HI brtis
i have one questions for you
i made a made when i am filling my DS 260 in my names spelling and my case number is 2017AF00011***
so I want to ask you i have to unlock my ds260 to correct or wait till the interview?
please i am worried.
thank you
August 22, 2016 at 14:11
You don’t mention what mistake you made, but unlock it now and correct.
August 25, 2016 at 13:17
Dear brit,
I afraid to unlock so Please tell me the approximate releasing months of my 2NL to correct my mistake( spelling errors in my name) as I mentioned above my case number is AF00011### and filled my ds260 in mid MAY.
August 25, 2016 at 15:12
Unlock and fix your name. Then wait patiently OR read the info I post that answers your timing question

August 22, 2016 at 13:53
Please I want to know if picture used on the lottery can cause denial if you can see teeth out side…or let say smiling a little and you can see teeth a little.can this cause a denial ?
August 22, 2016 at 14:11
No
August 22, 2016 at 13:43
Hi Simon, do the 2NLs all come out at the same time (in a batch) or are they staggered over a period of say 2 -3 days (or weeks) for October 2NLs, November NLs etc etc?
Also, can an outstanding parking ticket show up on a police clearance certificate (normally?)
Thanks
August 22, 2016 at 14:13
The 2MLs for a month of interviews usually come as a batch in a few hours. Then a month later, the next batch come.
Parking tickets, NO.
August 22, 2016 at 14:57
Thanks Simon
August 22, 2016 at 13:04

August 22, 2016 at 08:36
Hi.
I am dv2017 winner with number EU134XX. I submitted the ds-260 forms during June and now I found that I did some critical mistake and asked to unlock them to fix them.
Will this cause a delay in the interview schedule if I will submit them today?
Thanks
August 22, 2016 at 14:18
Probably not.
August 22, 2016 at 04:58

Dear Simon
i am the Algerian winner of D.V 2016 with my wife who have missed the interview and wanted to be rescheduled,
finally we got it they reschedule us on SEP/05/2016 YOUPI !!!.
because i live very far from Algiers and i tried to call the clinic “AZHAR” without success i want to know how much days took the medical examination to have the result in Algeria clinic?

August 22, 2016 at 00:03
I’m very flattered that you think I must know the processing speed of every medical clinic around the world. But I don’t know – ask the clinic.
August 21, 2016 at 22:24
Dear Simon,
Last year in october i had an interview, i traveled to the us in january, two months ago i received my green card. We are based in thr Netherlands at the moment. In june i gave birth and planning to get married in the upcomming months.
What is the best solution for me and my family as they do not hold the green card?
How do i make sure that my husband and baby will be legally allowed to travel, live and work in the USA?
Thank you in advance
August 22, 2016 at 00:06
You baby will be processed the next time you enter the USA – that will be simple. The child must be with you and this must be the first re-entry since the child was born.
Your new husband will be harder. You can marry, and then sponsor him through Family based immigration – however, you can expect that to take around 2 years.
August 25, 2016 at 14:01
What do I need to have with me when traveling with the child? Because our last names are different.
August 25, 2016 at 15:06
It partly depends on processes in your country. You will need the child’s passport, birth cert as a minimum. You may need a travel authorization from the US embassy if the airline need that to allow the baby on the flight. Check with the airline.
August 25, 2016 at 16:50
Thank you a lot for the information!
I have one more question. Can we start the process for my (future to be) husband while in the Netherlands, or it can be done just once im in the USA for good? Because we are planning to stay in the Netherlands for at least one more year, and then move for good.
August 25, 2016 at 17:07
You would normally need to be in the USA – but I do not advise in Family based procedures, so do your own research or hire a lawyer.
August 21, 2016 at 21:22
Hi Brit, in a case where one writes a different date but same month and year for university degree will it be a problem at the embassy?

August 21, 2016 at 21:57

hi Mr Brit,I must appreciate you are doing a great job to the needy and less informed…more grease..Please i am a winner for DV 2017,I got to travel out of my country the coming week where i choose my interview schedule and considering i send my ds 260 on June 18th i just realize i got some errors while filling my form.my worry is if i were to have the 2nl this August?and today request for an unlock today;will it not bring me further delays? Please help me with a prediction and advice for my case…2017AF000061X
August 21, 2016 at 21:59
If you have been scheduled already they won’t unlock. If you have NOT been scheduled, they will unlock you and most minor changes don’t cause delay.
August 21, 2016 at 17:45
Hi Simon,
A friend of mine, who I married won the DV-2016 lottery. She is loss her confirmation number. We have tried to get it back to no avail. i have used the confirmation instructions from the DV website, it is not still working. I contacted KCC, they keep giving the same instruction on the DV website.
Is there any other way I can get help. September is fast approaching.
August 21, 2016 at 17:55
“September is fast approaching”???? It is too late to start the process for DV2016 if she has not started already. The first step is submitting the DS260 – if she has not already done that, she is too late.
If she has submitted the DS260, she may have been scheduled for interview already.
So – did she submit the DS260?
August 21, 2016 at 17:37
Hi Brit, U said somewhere that one can play the dv without the high school degree but should meet the education requirement at the time of interview but from the instructions online it is said that one should not apply for the dv if you do not have the education or work experience requirement. I’m kind of confused.
August 21, 2016 at 17:46
My statement is 100% accurate – based on the law and experience. No need to be confused.
August 20, 2016 at 23:05
i’m sorry if i’m asking too much
August 21, 2016 at 15:33

August 20, 2016 at 22:10
i did but can i show bank statments and property statments with my fathers name instead of mine?
August 21, 2016 at 15:21
No, if you show savings, it must be in your accounts. If your father is going to give you money, he should provide a letter saying the money is a non repayable gift.
August 20, 2016 at 19:49

Hey Simon,
I have two questions
1.the people who are going to fill the I-134 have sponsored one before and the people asked asylum and never returned to their country. So could this pose a risk for us to make them our sponsors
2. The place were our green card is going to be sent if we succeed the people have changed their location
So, should we unlock the DS 260?
3.my date of birth on my passport was incorrect and I have made the corrections through the court. I made the correction after the selection. should this pose any problems at the interview?
August 20, 2016 at 17:56
1. Possibly.
2. Ideally, yes. But if you are scheduled you can inform the CO in the interview.
3. Possibly.
August 20, 2016 at 22:48
Thanx. So what do you suggest i do. All my educational documents tell my correct age that is why I managed to correct it.
August 21, 2016 at 15:20
Take all the proof you can to the interview.
August 20, 2016 at 14:10
hello Sir, please am a little worried about this last requirement as outline below
Next Steps
All Diversity Visa applicants must:
1) Obtain required supporting civil documents.
2) Obtain photographs that meet the Department of State’s visa requirements.
3) Review the information specific to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General where your visa interview will occur.
my worry as to one is am i to certified any of my document by state council to prove that the information am giving is true.
2) i completed my ds-260 form without any picture, where is this photo require and please how should i go about it.
3) those this means i will need to contact my country state embassy for more information.
August 20, 2016 at 14:29
no you dont need photos in ds260 form. they will look for photo that you fill 1st form.
August 20, 2016 at 14:31
you have to submit some photo in interview. thats all
August 20, 2016 at 14:41
1. That isn’t normally required but depends on the embassy specific instructions mentioned in point 3.
2. You take photos to the interview.
3. It means you should read the instructions from the dvselectee web site, specific to your embassy.
August 20, 2016 at 11:53
which language do we get interview? english or native.
August 20, 2016 at 14:43
English or local official language.

August 20, 2016 at 01:52
Hi brit
I’m a new green card holder and I recently entered the U.S. I’m there in the U.S for around 8 days. I have changed where I live. I know I’m required to inform USCIS of the new address when I move. I went online and updated to my new address. However I want to receive my Green Card in the old address. In the online form I updated to the new address. I also supplied the old address in the mailing address space which is where I want to receive my green card. I’m just worried they might send the green card in the new address . Have I done it correctly?
August 20, 2016 at 03:18
It doesn’t matter what you do, the GC will be sent to the OLD address.
August 19, 2016 at 23:51
Hi Brit ,
Thank’s for your endless help..
I was selected for DV2016 and I got my visa stamp already .
I’ll be traveling to US soon.
I just want to know if I can bring my 2 sons whose over 21 of age after I receive my Green Card there !
Thank’s and regards
August 20, 2016 at 03:20
It will take some time (2+ years), but yes – once you are in the USA you can start the process.
August 19, 2016 at 21:42
Hello all,
I want again to thank Simon for all his help. I will travel to US in 02-03 months max. I want to ask everyone who made it to US and/or any one who can donate to donate for this website. I will donate once in the US.
Hello Simon,
I have my visa, but before going to USA, I will be travelling to Cameroon, Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Kenya to finish some work I have to do to my company. As You know US Embassy gave me a closed envelop that I have to take with me to Immigration Services. I believe it is the medical folder.
Anyways, is travelling a problem, as some areas are risky ( I mean yellow fever and other diseases). I let you know that I work for a US company and before travelling any where I do have all my medical checks and vaccinations where applicable. There will be stamps on my passport showing my movements.
Please advise and good luck everyone.
Best regards
August 19, 2016 at 23:41
That is no problem – the medical will be valid until the expiry date on your visa.
August 20, 2016 at 00:30
Hello sir,
In my main dv form birth city and state got interchanged accidently. all other details are correct.
Now going through all of your blog I come to know that things like this make CO suspicious about multiple entries or other frauds.
But my application is totally genuine and it was just only a err. and if Iam asked about it at interview I can explain about it.
Now I have corrected it in ds260. sir according to your experience how can it effect in less strict embassy like kathmandu(kdu).? Can I hope to make it out through the process?
Thank you very much for this outstanding blog.
August 20, 2016 at 03:19

August 19, 2016 at 16:43
Hi Brit, can someone play the dv awaiting high school results?
August 19, 2016 at 17:14
Yes. They must meet the education requirement by the time of interview.
August 19, 2016 at 11:37
Hi Brit,
My DV-Lottery Case Number Is Current In The Up coming October’s VB

August 19, 2016 at 11:50
I Mentioned My Faculty Details Not Scondary School Details, The Of Educational Institutions( I Wrote 1) and Completed DS260 (19 May)
-Thank You Again
August 19, 2016 at 17:35
You probably cannot unlock since your interview will have been scheduled. You will have to discuss with the CO.
August 19, 2016 at 17:39
Thank You So Much For Reviewing and Answering My Question Wish You All The Best
August 19, 2016 at 10:33
Dear Simon,
I’m current for October interview, but haven’t received yet the 2nd NL.
I sent out the DS-260 on May 4th, unlocked and sent again on 13th of May.
I also checked in the ESC site, but there is yet the 1st NL.
What do you suggest? Wait or contact KCC?
Thank you
August 19, 2016 at 14:22
2nd NL is comming end week of this month if your case number is low ..so wait
August 19, 2016 at 17:37
NO ONE has the 2NL yet! Relax, wait… They will come out in a week or two at most.
August 19, 2016 at 06:50
Good day
I am a successful DV winner and received my passport a few days ago with the IV Visa in it.
There is just one thing from my interview which perplexed me…
The CO said that I wont be able to leave the US after entering the first time for between 4 and 12 Weeks since they take your passport at immigration…
So my questions are related to entering and leaving…
Do they take your passport and keep it while processing it through immigration channels?
Can other 2016 DV winners shed light on entering and leaving since I want to activate and leave a days later and return after a months…
Thank You
August 19, 2016 at 17:38
The CO was incorrect. Border control staff DO NOT take your passport. You can leave on the very next flight if you wanted!
August 19, 2016 at 02:46
Hi brit thank for your great help.
I dont understand what does mean ‘course of study’
– does it mean academic/professional course or the specialty, for exemple marketing, law…?
August 19, 2016 at 05:02
Yes
August 18, 2016 at 22:11
Hello Brits
Do you have any estimation of the remained number of visa slots for Iranian? Have you published any data on that?
August 18, 2016 at 22:17
I have no idea. I used to extract the CEAC data and publish the findings, but that is no longer possible.
August 18, 2016 at 21:48
Hello! I am a dv lottery winner i wanna know if my father conviction would affect my visa.he was convicted for fiscal evasion.
August 18, 2016 at 22:08
It’s nothing to do with your case.
August 18, 2016 at 20:21
Hello brit,
Does conditional green card apply to parents or just the spouse? Thank you for your time.
August 18, 2016 at 20:38
Under what circumstances? I don’t really understand your question.
August 19, 2016 at 02:05
I used to think that marriage based ( less than 2 years of marriage) green cards are conditional and valid for 2 years. But what i am hearing from my colleague is his mother in law Just got the conditional green card. What could be the reason behind?
August 19, 2016 at 05:02
I don’t know.
August 20, 2016 at 02:49
they apply for all of your family. but u have to wait five year for yor parent to get geen card. you an your spouse can get card at same time.
August 18, 2016 at 20:06
Hi Simon
I called the KCC. the office said my interview is on the October 18th.
In the original entry I had made a spilling mistake in my last name and also entered mohha as my middle name that I don’t have middle name so when filling out the ds260 I wrote the same as I had in the original entry because I could change my last name in my passport so I submitted my form like that and than I emailed my mistake to the KCC and than I found out that that would be attached to my file to the embassy.
What do you think ? Do I have to change My last name in passport or to just mention while having interview.
Please help me
August 18, 2016 at 20:36
You should have entered the information correctly on the DS260. You must not try and change your passport to match this – you will simply create a bigger mess. As it is, there is a chance of denial because you have concealed your name twice – and the background checks are based on the information you provide in the DS260. You will have to raise the issue with the CO.
There is now a significant risk of denial or at least AP on your case.
August 19, 2016 at 03:46
How many percentage of denial do you think there is ?
Do I have to raise that on the day of interview or to contact before?
And I have to say that in our country we do not have middle names and the mistake of my last name is that instead of typing yousofi typed yuosofi
August 19, 2016 at 05:02
I don’t estimate percentages like that – it is meaningless.
Raise it at the interview.
August 19, 2016 at 12:37
Thanks a lot for helping.
Do you thing I prepare my documents for interview or just leave my chance?
August 19, 2016 at 12:53
I mean: Is it worth of interview ?
August 19, 2016 at 17:24
For me it would be worth it. It is your choice.
August 19, 2016 at 15:27
if would be better if you unlock your ds260 form and re submmite.
August 22, 2016 at 14:01
sir does KCC say when da interview is there ..this means we should not rely on notification which is to come in emails or ..lil confused..???

August 18, 2016 at 18:36
I mean much about the decision
August 18, 2016 at 18:18
Hi Brit. Thanks so much for all the info you are providing. I have a question too. Have you ever heard of someone being denied for dob error. I filled it out for my friend. I made mistake because of the difference in the US and european date systems. The years is right. Like i put march second instead of February third. Something like that. Do you think this can cause a problem at the interview?
August 18, 2016 at 18:26
People have been denied for such errors – particularly at the more strict embassies such as Accra.
If your friend is interviewed at a less strict embassy, the chance of denial is lower – IF – the DS260 has the correct data.
August 18, 2016 at 18:34
The ds260 will be filled out in a couple of days, of course with the correct info. The embassy is yerevan, armenia. We emailed the embassy they replied : ” Thank you for your email. Be advised that you can fill out the DS-260 form with correct date of birth and sent to the KCC. At the time of visa interview you should also inform the interviewing consular officer about the date of birth discrepancy. ” But it doesn’t say much. Thank you.
August 18, 2016 at 19:37
The response is logical. The CO has discretion about whether to approve a case or not based on their own assessment. That will include determining whether an error such as you describe is a genuine innocent mistake, or something more sinister (an attempt of fraud). So – the embassy would never promise an outcome one way or another. In general I would suspect the chance of denial for this error is low.
August 22, 2016 at 06:41
Hi Brit. Thnks again for the previous answers. Please let me know if we should email KCC. I noticed in one of your previous posts, you said that someone was denied for a name error. You posted that if KCC was notified about the error they would be able to run another duplicate check. So what do you think of emailing KCC about our date of birth error? Thank you.
August 22, 2016 at 14:30
Email them if you will make you feel better, but the background check is performed based on the DS260.
August 18, 2016 at 17:25
hi simon.
i case is already scheduled and i have filled “other travel document” im ds260 form. but now i have passport instead. will it cause problem in selection? what can i do to solve problem

If it is scheduled you cannot change the DS260 – so in that case you simply present the passport at the interview.

can your experience guarantee that i will not rejected?
August 18, 2016 at 18:12
LOL! NO – I cannot offer you a guarantee that you will not be rejected – I have no idea about your case.
August 18, 2016 at 18:15
haha ok i will provide my ecperience after my interview. do read my experience so you can gurantee other who have case like this. keep helping u r doing great job.

I’m not going to offer anyone a “guarantee”! It isn’t that I am not sure about what I am saying (I am sure) – it’s that I cannot know the other details of the case that could cause denial.
Furthermore I don’t charge for my time, so if people want reassurances they would need to hire a lawyer (who typically know far less about DV than I do), share all the details of the case with the lawyer, pay for the professional opinion, and I would guess that the lawyer would STILL not offer guarantees (because they charge for work performed, not for the outcome).
So – if you want a guarantee, buy an iPhone.

Loved your comment about the guarantee ?
August 18, 2016 at 18:55
okay so how may % are u sure about this case.
August 18, 2016 at 19:39
Something between 0% and 100%.

Are you a selected for the dv 2016 or dv 2017?
August 18, 2016 at 14:57
Hello Simon,
My sister was selected in may along with my niece. They filled the form in that same month. They still have to be scheduled for an interview. Do you think it’s precocious to start worrying now?
August 18, 2016 at 16:57
If they are DV2016 – they would be right to worry, but my guess is they are DV2017 and in that case it is very likely that they are not due to be scheduled yet.

Hello simon,
I was selecteed in dv 2017.
I want to fill my husband form but I found out that is name there is only
First nd middle name without surname.
Can we fixe it in the 260 form? As it is in the passport nd others documents.
Or that mistake can cause a denied of the visa?
Because is only accompagne me.
August 18, 2016 at 14:11
Fix it on the DS260. It is no risk.

Hello
This year I was selected in the dv program and have a pretty low number.
I have completed and sent the ds260 form in early May. I have now noticed that I made some mistakes. Now, the questions:
1. If the mistake is that, in spite of passing the Baccalaureate and having a Master’s degree, I filled in the “high school gap”:. ” high school diploma” instead of Baccalaureate diploma”, should I edit the application?
2. My high school’s name changed. Which name should I write in the application?
3. Can I reopen the application and edit it? Does it affect my case by any means? Will I be given an other CN?
4. Will the delay be long? ( My case number was amoung those qualifying for an October interview)
Thank you.
August 18, 2016 at 13:56
1. Yes
2. Use your judgement
3. You ask KCC to unlock your form. You keep the same CN. They will not unlock a case once it is scheduled.
4. Probably little or no delay if you act immediately, but as I said they will not unlock if you have been scheduled, and then you will have to discuss the mistakes with the CO at the interview.

Thank you so much.
August 18, 2016 at 14:15
One more question… in order to contact KCC, should I send them an email or how else?
August 18, 2016 at 14:40
Email
August 18, 2016 at 15:55
I have sent them an email, as you said. Now, should I expect them to answer or should I simply enter my 260 form and correct what I need?
I am really worried cause I have a relatively low number.
August 18, 2016 at 16:55
You cannot edit it UNLESS it is unlocked.

Hello Brit,
I am very grateful for the help you have been offering to us.
I got married and had a baby boy after I had been selected for the 2016 DV program. So I included them when filling the DS 260 form. But my wife and son were not added to my case as beneficiaries, because of that they could not fill their own DS 260 forms. But when my visa interview appointment letter came they were included as beneficiaries. On 12th July, we went to the interview, but since my beneficiaries hadn’t filled their DS 260 forms, we couldn’t have the interview. So I contacted the consular section through this address [email protected] . Fortunately the US embassy replied my mail asking me to send a screenshot of my summary information on the US DEPARTMENT OF STATE CONSULAR ELECTRONIC APPLICTION CENTER. I sent the screenshot to them immediately, but it’s been more than a month now, I’ve not heard from the Embassy.
I am very worried now, because September is fast approching. Please advice me on what to do.
August 18, 2016 at 13:58
Contact them again. Do so every week or two.

What would happen if say a DV 2016 winner lost her passport with a visa stamp in it and the fiscal year (September 30) has come to a close. This is obviously before they travel to the States.
August 18, 2016 at 13:59
They would have to get a new travel document AND contact the US embassy for a replacement visa. It would indicate a pretty careless selectee though!!!!
