September 15, 2016 at 13:11
You probably submitted your DS260 too late to be in the October interviews. You will be scheduled in a later month, depending on when you submitted.
September 15, 2016 at 13:23
I applied on may 20. Some people applied on the same day have already notified.
September 15, 2016 at 14:00
Yes – but not all cases are the same. You will be in the November batch.

Good Afternoon brit. Thank you for information. I noticed from the comments that there is cases from the Africa region which is low number but the selectees havent received their interviews as yet. AFxxx650 if I am correct this person was from Nigeria. We are from Namibia and the embassy in south africa was identified as where the interview must be. Does this also have an effect on when your interview is scheduled? As we are in the 8000 or what else could have such an effect. As from the nov bulletin our interview is suppose to be in november still waiting patiently in the mean time. Thank you
September 13, 2016 at 03:36
Good day Brit can you pls advice on the above? Thank you

It appears you are not serious about wanting a Green Card.
September 12, 2016 at 17:54
Hello Brit,
My wife was just notified (in September 2016) that she was selected for the DV 2017 program. Her case number is for Europe region 24XX. Our passeports are valid ûtil August 2017. Would you recomend to file theDS-260 now or wait for our new passports? (we will get them in 6 to 8 weeks from now).
Also we have read that we can ask Kentucky center to unlock the DS-260, would it be better to do it as soon as we get the new passports or after we get the appointment confirmation? The objective is of course not to generate an appointment delay. Thanks!
September 12, 2016 at 17:57
You can wait two months to submit quite safely. I would recommend you do that.
September 12, 2016 at 18:11
Hi Brit,
You seem like a busy guy, really helpful website. I’m a US citizen living abroad and my girlfriend was just selected in the second draw a few days ago. We had previously planned to apply for a fiance visa, but we now have the option of filling out the DS260. Are there any rules against applying for both in parallel? I’m asking because if we put our faith in the Diversity Visa and wait six months, and then she ends up not getting it, then we’ll probably have to wait another 6-8 months for the fiance visa to get processed. Her case number is around 25,000 for the EU, so looks promising if I understand correctly.
Many thanks,
OT
September 12, 2016 at 19:19
You can do both BUT the fiancée visa could be done faster as the DV case will not be processed before next summer. So – However, the fiancée route plus GC has conditions whereas the DV visa has no conditions. Personally I would choose between the two methods. As long as she meets the requirements the DV process is very easy.
September 12, 2016 at 18:38
Hi Brit.
My girlfriend was notified about the selection for DV lottery in September. We are dating for 2 years now and were planning to get married in March, but for now in case not to make things complicated we have decided to get married as soon as possible and submit the DS-260 as a married couple. We have a lot of facts proving our relationship, such as photos, phone calls logs, common travelling during last 2 years and etc. Do you think listed will be enough ?
And the second question, is that my girlfriend has a child from previous marriage. So what permits do we need from legal father? Thanks in advance!
September 12, 2016 at 19:11
Getting married is fine. For the child she should be prepared to show she has legal custody/permission from the father. The sensitivity/rules about that varies by country and embassy.
September 12, 2016 at 20:05
Hi Brit,
Thank you for all your assistance. My case number is 2017AF37022. I went to the ceac website to check my visa status. The message I received reads as follows “Invalid Immigrant Visa case number” Do I need to be worried or do they still need to process my application.
Thanking you in advance.
Danie
September 12, 2016 at 20:36
The data for DV2017 is not loaded. So – don’t bother checking CEAC until January.
September 12, 2016 at 21:14
Thanks Simon for the great site. Hopefully you’ll give answers to the following questions:
1-I’m wondering whether the Affidavit of support I-134 and the related documents must be mailed by the sponsor directly to the embassy’ visas section (at the interview location); or it should be handed by the applicant himself to CO during the interview?
2-IF the sponsor should mail ; is it wise to keep a copy of the Affidavit as a spare that could aid in case the original didn’t get received?
3- Are savings and different possessions can replace the Affidavit? or all are considered as a kind of support to the Affidavit?
September 12, 2016 at 21:25
1. You take it to the interview.
2. The sponsor should mail it to you (keeping a spare if you wish).
3. This is discussed on https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/

September 12, 2016 at 23:15
Hi sir. I singly enter the dv 2017 and was selected before getting married to my wife. She was added as a spouse two months ago and since have not gotten any information from the Embassy. my questions are:
1. Should we do the passport together?
2. Is it advisable to get Police clearance now while awaiting?
3. Can we do our Medical now?
thanks for your support.
September 12, 2016 at 23:43
This is the fourth time you have asked a very similar question. You don’t seem to be reading my replies and you keep starting a new topic rather than replying. It’s getting very frustrating. This is the last time I will answer you if you cannot show me you are reading the replies and stop repeating the same questions!!
1. I don’t understand this question. You will both need passports.
2. You should wait until you receive the 2NL. The timing of that depends on your case number and DS260 submission date.
3. You normally wait until you receive your 2NL.
If you need to clarify my answers, MAKE SURE you reply to this comment.
September 12, 2016 at 23:37
hi simon i have been selected in the second selection (Sept. 2016) but my case no is xxx39036 is there any chance or the the chance is weak.
September 12, 2016 at 23:45
That number seems quite good. What country are you charged to? I would guess one of the limited countries.
September 13, 2016 at 00:41
Thank you for reply…
i’m from Egypt is this number is good?
if yes. can you guess the month of interview?
September 13, 2016 at 05:19
It’s fine. I’m not guessing dates of interviews.
September 19, 2016 at 16:13
I mean can you guess the month of 2NL?
September 13, 2016 at 03:10
Hello Mr. Simon,
I have previously entered and won the DV lottery for fiscal year 2015. I have completed DS-260 for myself and my spouse at the time, but unfortunately we didn’t make the cut because our case number was too high. It was a huge bummer but we eventually got over it. Now, me and my husband are planning to apply for a travel visa to visit our relatives at the end of the year in the US. However, we recently heard from a friend that the embassy could see that we’ve applied for a DV lottery before and our chances to get travel visa would be extremely low. Is it true? If so, how significantly would it hurt our chances? (and how do we prove that our only intention is to travel)
Thank you so much,
Melissa
September 13, 2016 at 04:59
It’s a factor but not a big factor. You still have to prove your intention is to travel and return…
September 13, 2016 at 03:12
hello Brit
just arrived the US but i have a problem,i needed to pay the greencard fee online but discoverd i did not rewrite the two numbers that was given to me at the embassy along my visa package; so wanted to pay the fee online today but i it seem i cant fine the numbers.pls what should i do to have those numbers so as to pay the fee??? the numbers are the A-NUMBER and the DOS case ID
September 13, 2016 at 04:58
Take a look at your visa….
September 13, 2016 at 04:16
Hi BritSimon
I am working in US in H1B visa. I recently got an email and found out that I was selected for dv2017 with case number AS78xx, I want to do AOS in US, so I believe i have to file DS260 and send the fee and also when the visa bulletin cutoff reaches 8000 or so which I believe will be somewhere in 2017, I will have to file for I485. Does this process seems correct? Now my another question is, I’m planning to go to my country on october 2016 for two weeks, I am wondering what could be the best time for me to file DS260, right away(I still have 3 wks ), right after returning to US or after few months of my return. Or it doesn’t matter at all.
Thank you
September 13, 2016 at 04:56
You don’t need to rush to file your DS260 – do it after you return.
For AOS questions I suggest people read the thread below. Check the spreadsheet linked from the first post in the thread which has everything you need. If you still have questions, post on that thread.
http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2017-aos-only.331328/
September 13, 2016 at 13:24
Thank you for your quick response, a followup question, it is okey to file the DS260 immediately after my return or its better to wait couple of months?
September 13, 2016 at 13:44
There is no rush…
September 13, 2016 at 13:48
thanks much…
September 13, 2016 at 06:22
Dear Brit
my name is Robert From Eithiopia
I ‘m a DV 2017 winner AF00193xx
I already filled my DS 260 in May
i have a 10 years ban from the US will ends on Oct 5th 2016
in the DS260 i answered yes to the question if i had a 10 ban as i filled the application on may, now being that my number in October is not current so i will have my interview after the 10 years is over
I asked to unlock my case to correct it
my question is that:
can i submit my DS260 now or should i wait until Oct10th as my 10 years will be finished by that date ?
i mean if i write now i don’t have a ban it’s not correct as the ban until Oct 10th 2016
so to be accurate should i not submit the DS260 until Oct 10 so my answers are correct or no?
thanks
September 13, 2016 at 14:03
You had a ban. Your DS260 should still mention that – so there is nothing to correct after October 5th.
September 13, 2016 at 16:52
Dear Simon
sorry i didn’t make my self clear last time
I have a removal order on Oct 10th 2006
so like this the ban should ends on Oct10th 2016
i’m a dv2017 winner , i already filled the ds260 on May
in the question: if you have been ordered removed in the last 10 years i answered yes
and as my case is not current on Oct so no need to answer yes to this question to have my ds260 accurate
now my case unlocked to correct
my question is: should i wait after Oct 10th to send my DS260 back as i will answer no to the question that i didn’t have been ordered removed on the last 10 years
or can i send it now
hope it’s clear to you this time
thanks
September 13, 2016 at 21:56
Wait until after the ban.
September 14, 2016 at 14:00
Dear Brit
One more thing please
I was married to a us citizen and divorced then left the us
Then later I found out that they issued me this removal order as I didnt inform them that I left the US
Do u think this could effect my DV
September 14, 2016 at 14:09
Possibly, yes.
September 15, 2016 at 09:14
Can u pls tell me why u think that remocal order possibly could affect my DV case
I mean don’t I just have a ban for 10 years and it’s already over before my interview
And I didn’t break any law
I didn’t over stay my visa
I was just married and then divorced so I left. I just failed to inform the Ins that I left the country.
Please tell me what problems I could face on my DV interview
Thanks and sorry for too many questions
September 15, 2016 at 13:23
You had a 10 year ban. That is rare and is only connected to overstays. So – they might be interested in that – they might not. The only way to know is to have the interview.
September 13, 2016 at 07:35
1st thanks for you help i appreciate that i have 3question regarding filling ds 260 :
1- iam from egypt working at oman since 2 y i have (temporary work visa resident )at oman so at ds260 my present address will be my address at oman or at my homeland egypt ?
2-according to education : have i to explain all my educational levels since childhood or just my high school attendance ,and my university degree are enough
3- can i change my interview place to oman (not egypt) from ds260 or that will be after i received my 2nd letter ?
thanks in advance ….
September 13, 2016 at 13:58
1. Sounds like it would be Oman
2. Since about age 10 to 12.
3. If you answer Oman as your address the interview will be in Oman.
September 13, 2016 at 08:15
Hi BritSimon, I was selected for the DV2017 from Australia with a case number 10XX. What would you say my chances are? I saw last year that around 1,800 visas were given to Autralians.
I also completed the DS260 and I only included my university degree as I remember it saying – “What is your highest level of education”. I read on their website that if they require more information they will contact you, so should I unlock it to add my highschool or just wait for them to contact me? I’m concerned about unlocking it and going back in the queue.
September 13, 2016 at 13:56
You have a couple of things incorrect.
Australia did not get 1800 visas, but regardless of that – your number is fine.
I recommend you unlock. It does not send you to the back of the queue.
September 13, 2016 at 20:54
Thanks for your help. My last concern is the US address. I won’t look for a place until after I have been accepted. I have placed STREET ADDRESS UNKNOWN in that section but put in Los Angeles/90120 because I know I will live in Los Angeles. I will obviously know it by point of entry. Is that fine?
September 13, 2016 at 21:40
No, it’s not fine. Get an address from someone you know and can trust in the USA. Then update your DS260 either at or before the interview. There have been cases where POE changes were forgotten – and then the GC gets lost.
September 14, 2016 at 02:00
What does someone do if they knows absolutely no one in the US? Hotel address, PO Box?
September 14, 2016 at 02:49
You need to use a real address (it cannot be a PO Box). Using a hotel is unwise. So – ask a friend, or a friend of a friend.
September 15, 2016 at 09:43
Hi Brit,
My wife won DV-2017, CN is AS-78xx.
My wife and I had completed and submitted the DS260 on 1st week of July 2016 and we only included our university degree, regardless to indicate High School education.
The following is for our answered DS-260 filling the time.
Q: Have you attended any educational institutions at a secondary level or above?
A: Yes
Q: Highest Level of Education Completed
A: University Degree
Q: Number of Education Completed
A: 1
Our question is
(1) should we unlock or just wait second letter from KCC?
because DS-260 asking about “at a secondary level or above”
September 13, 2016 at 08:20
Hi Brit,
I trust you are keeping well. Thank you very much for your assistance on all these issues. I visited UK for 25 days last year but I did not mention it in the DS form because the part asking for places I have lived since turning 16 has a side note that says “that it should not include addresses of hotels one stayed during vacation. Did I get it right or should I have mentioned? My case is current so I can’t unlock.
September 13, 2016 at 13:55
25 days is just a holiday – no need to mention.
September 13, 2016 at 08:22
Dear Brit,
I am DV2017. I have a question. Years ago I lived in US for few years and I had a problem with finalizing my Verizon plan. They were supposed to mail me a final bill and never did or they did when left US. I tried to contact them from outside of US and see what else I owe them but had some difficulties to establish that. I believe it was around maybe 150 USD. What is the best way to fix that?
I tried to take care of that when I was visiting US but they could not find the account.
It probably will affect my credit history. Yes? It was before obtaining SSN?
Can I use any on line services to check my credit history. If there are any records? Or is it possibly to do that through my bank in US?
Thank you.
September 13, 2016 at 13:54
It may not be recorded on your credit history.
September 13, 2016 at 14:45
What about interview. It may come up. I renewed my visa in meantime without problems and i have never been asked any questions at the airports while entering.
September 13, 2016 at 19:23
It has nothing to do with an immigration interview.
September 13, 2016 at 10:47

Hi…..
I had won dv lottery year 2016……..but my medicals delayed and i didnt make it……If i got job in the US would it be difficult to process or get a visa to go and work
September 13, 2016 at 13:49
Work visas are hard to obtain and only available for certain jobs.
September 13, 2016 at 16:29
hi brit about changing interview location i have email to kcc that looks like as below
Dear sir/madam,
As i am from Nepal and currently studying and staying in Norway, my student visa will expire before i will receive second notification letter and interview date as per visa bulletin of Asia (Nepal). Through revewing visa bulletin of Nepal, it seems that it will take longer time to get notification letter in email in my case as i have case number which is high 2017AS000072##. As my interview location is in stockholm, if i will get second letter notification as per Europe cases which shows high visa bulletin then i can receive notification of interview before my study visa will expire. So, i would like to request KCC officer to change my interview location to Nepal, my birthplace if my cases are analysed as per Asia. So, I will be there after my study. I would like to ask that does high case number will affect receiving second notification letter and in visa interview?
Name: ###
ADDRESS:##### (Current address )
Date of birth: ####
CASE number: #######
Address that i want to change in Nepal:
c/o ###
####
i got this reply which i was not expecting….they are saying only kcc can unlock but i am emailing to kcc.
hank you for your inquiry.
Once the DS-260 has been submitted, the Interview Location can only be updated by the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC). Please send your request to [email protected]. You will need to include information that explains why you need the interview location changed.
If you need to change your interview location because your residency has changed, you will need to include the previous address on the original electronic entry and the new address in your email. You will also need to request that KCC unlock your DS-260, so that you can update your application with your new address. (Please note that Post Office Boxes and mailing addresses in care of another person do not justify a change of interview location..
remaining reply are details of visa bulletin.
Do you have idea how could i change my interview location to Nepal?
thank you
September 13, 2016 at 22:04
It is very simple.
1. You email KCC to ask them to unlock your DS260.
2. You change your current address to an address in Nepal.
2. You email KCC asking them to note the address change and choose KDU for your interview.
September 13, 2016 at 18:39
Hi Brit
Since our ap in may, we have not been called up to now.
We are totally going out of frustration. What your advice?
Just forget about it or still keep the hope?
September 13, 2016 at 21:55
You have less than three weeks until the end of the month/year. So – all you can do is wait until then.
September 13, 2016 at 21:09
Hey Simon,
Thanks for all your help thus far, your site has been invaluable.
We have a few questions that I haven’t been able to answer to from the existing questions/answers. I’d be grateful if you could provide some insight…
1. How picky are they about a missing middle-name in the initial DV lottery entry?
2. What’s the timeline between interview and visa issue, assuming all is in order?
3. If I’m already employed by a US company, do I need to do anything more than take proof of ongoing employment?
4. Any issues with using police certificates obtained before 2NL? (We had applied for them for another visa process)
Thanks!
September 13, 2016 at 21:39
1. The pickiness varies by embassy and whether or not it is combined with other errors. Accra for instance have been known to refuse a case with that error, other embassies would probably be more forgiving UNLESS other “errors” have the effect of concealing identity (like birthdate).
2. 1 to 2 weeks.
3. It depends whether you will continue that work or not.
4. They can be up to 6 months old at interview. Certificates older than that are sometimes accepted IF the selectee has not been to that country again since the police cert was obtained. If in doubt, get new police certs.
September 13, 2016 at 22:06
Hi Simon, thank you for all the info shared about the DV Lottery process. Everything is really helpful.
I have a question about filling the DS260′ medical and health information:
1)are diabetes (treated only with pills, no insulina shots) and cystic fibrosis (genetic non contagious) considered “communicable disease of public health significance” or “mental or physical disorder that poses a threat of the safety of yourself”?
2)Should I mention that in the DS260 or just discuss it during the medical appointment?
3)Can these disease cause denial?
Thank you!!
September 13, 2016 at 22:22
1. No – because neither disease is contagious. They are not concerned with your health apart from if you have a disease that could spread to people already here. Type “Britsimon diseases” into google for more info.
2. Answer questions honestly.
3. See 1.
September 15, 2016 at 14:03
Hi Simon
I understood from your article under the title: ” What are the diseases that can cause denial” that there are some communicable diseases of public health significance and you gratefully listed them; your list include 7 disease : Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Chancroid, Gonorrhea, Granuloma Inguinale, Lymphogranuloma Venereum, Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy):
As per the Centers for Disease control and Prevention ( CDC) regulations, a medical examination is mandatory for all applicants outside the U.S. applying for an immigrant visa. Outside the U.S., medical examinations are performed by approximately 600 physicians (panel physicians) selected by Department of State (DOS) consular officials. However CDC updated as of March 28, 2016, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venerum, and granuloma inguinale are removed from the list of communicable diseases of public health significance. Therefore, evaluation for these three diseases is no longer required as part of the U.S. immigration medical screening process. So, the list, I think is reduced to 4, instead of 7 disease.
The list published on CDC website include: Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy), in addition to the vaccinations: Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Polio, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae Type B, Rotavirus, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningocococcal disease, Varicella, Pneumococcal pneumonia, and Influenza.
It is very clear that the applicant and derivatives should have their medical exams by the physicians assigned by the embassy or consulate. However, for peoples who have to travel to another country for the medicals and interviews, the question is that: is it possible to have some of the abovementioned checks and vaccines done inside their home countries as some may need long time to achieve; and to save time and cost? Or all must be carried out by the Embassy specified agents?.
Thanks
Salem

Dear simon
i want to know please what contain the yellow sealed envelope given with the visa ?
thanks for all
September 13, 2016 at 22:56
Paperwork that documents your case and approval for the visa – you give that to the immigration officer in the USA.
September 13, 2016 at 23:06
dear Brit,
I am green card holder for one year,I have girl friend who is not U.S citizenship and she lives out side of U.S.I would love to married her and to call her to enjoy me in U.S..its that possible because I am permit resident? and what is the best way to do that to be able to lives together in U.S.
Thank you
September 14, 2016 at 00:00
It is possible – and takes around 2 years. I don’t advise on that process.
September 14, 2016 at 00:30
Dear Brit, I win the DV-2017, My case ID is about 16XXX in morocco ,africa. I submit DS-260 in the middle of may and I edit the form again and submit it in the 12th of july (renew my passport and one or two other things ) … when do you think my second letter and the interview will be?

September 14, 2016 at 07:47
Hello Britsimon,
I have few questions to ask you regarding DV 2017.
Is case number AS63## safe from Nepal?
I live abroad and i am thinking to change my interview location. Now my question is if i change my interview location lets say like two months before my case being current, than Does it delay for me to get second letter?
Thank you
September 14, 2016 at 13:33
Probably safe.
Change the address earlier than that to make sure the case is not current.

Hello Brit
I sent DS260 on july 30th 2016, on 2017AF00002xxx. when do i expect 2nl?
September 14, 2016 at 13:25
I can’t predict how quickly the backlog of DS260 processing will be cleared. Watch the updates I give after the 2NLs go out in the next month or two.
September 14, 2016 at 14:12
hello Mr Brit
Thanks for the reply.
My sponsor sent the following to me:
1. His Tax information written 1010 and so on with max of $48000 gross pay
2. His W2 information showing one dependant etc
3. An employment letter for himself
4. copy of his USA passport data page
He promised sending a duly signed copy of I-134 by mail.
Please are these documents enough for presentation at the embassy?
Zac
September 14, 2016 at 14:38
Yes.
September 16, 2016 at 08:44
Thx for your comment.
September 14, 2016 at 14:46
hello simon
is it possible to change interview location on case already current
September 14, 2016 at 16:24
KCC won’t allow changes if they are scheduling the case.
If the interview is scheduled already then the change of interview location must be handled through the embassies. It’s possible, but often goes wrong.
September 14, 2016 at 14:51
Hi Brit,
How long does it take to sponsor my newly wedded spouse after i av my green card?
What is the process if his name was not included in my form?
September 14, 2016 at 16:32
To sponsor a spouse outside the DV takes around 2 years. It is a Family based application.
September 14, 2016 at 15:27
Hi Brit, please do all jobs under zone 4 have an svp range of 7 and above or specific jobs??
September 14, 2016 at 16:21
I don’t know – I haven’t checked them. But you should not be concerned with “a;; jobs” – just the one you do….
September 14, 2016 at 16:33
Hello Simon,
2 months ago I moved to the UK from Spain, to start a new job here. I sent my application with a Spanish address and instinctively I changed it to London when I started filling the application.
My husband and son are still in Spain and they have Madrid as place of the interview.
The medical examination requires a Police certification that among other things requires a UK endorser plus to proofs of address and so on.
It is fairly complicated to acquire all these information as I am new and don’t have all those contacts here.
So I thought to change it back to Madrid, after all I will have spent less than a year in the UK at the time of the interview.
My application still hasn’t been sent so most of the fields are still editable, except for this one.
I tried to email them but I think they expect me to change my address back to the old one in Spain (where my husband and son reside).
I don’t think it’s a good idea to have my husband and son take the interview in Madrid and myself in London…what should I do?
Thank you
September 14, 2016 at 19:39
You should all interview together. KCC will schedule the interview based on the current address for the principal selectee, so if you want to do it in Madrid, you should change your address to Madrid. However, London is also a good choice and your family could interview with you there. The procedures for medicals aren’t as complicated as you seem to think.
September 14, 2016 at 17:49
1.Brit i have already asked you about affidavit of support for Nepal. But i do not get lucid and concrete reply that clear my doubts and make me understandable.
2.It seems like i am bothering you asking same question many times. But i am unclear about it so for the last time please Brit make me clear about it in details or do you have any articles about affidavit of support for KDU embassy?
3. How they see the case numbers concerning affidavit of support?
4. What is the main thing they look who are applying affidavit of support rather than bank statements?
September 14, 2016 at 19:34
I did answer, but you seem to be missing the point.
As I mentioned before, KDU seem more interested in/satisfied by a host than I-134. If you have a host (and perhaps what people in Nepal call a welcome letter), that is probably all you need. If you want to prepare an I-134 anyway, you could have used the search facility on my site and obtained the link below.
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
I think that should clear up all your questions apart from number 3 above which I don’t understand.
September 15, 2016 at 16:58
Thank you so much Brit.
That means affidavit of support is not needed for me at the time of interview. I should show welcome letter. Alright then,
1. What does welcome letter covers? How it is like? It seems that , it is peculiar about KDU embassy.
2. I have my blood relations in Maryland selected from dv lottery program 2013, i can asked welcome letter from him. Person sending welcome letter should be financially settled there??
3. Brit will this be the cause of visa rejection showing only welcome letter or should i have to submit affidavit of support too? i am afraid will this can create some problems?
4. Why KDU seem more interested in/satisfied by a host than I-134?
September 15, 2016 at 17:09
1. I don’t know – check with others in Nepal.
2. Yes and yes
3. Most people (by far) in KDU get approved
4. I don’t have time to go into that.
September 14, 2016 at 20:38
Hi Brit, sorry for disturbing once again. What I want to know is if all zone 4 jobs have dsame svp range cuz my job I a zone 4 but I don’t know how to check it’s svp range.
September 14, 2016 at 21:49
The SVP is shown on the same page as the job zone. Why don’t you post the link to the job you are looking at.
September 14, 2016 at 22:37
Hi Brit, I need your advice for family emigration process. I have my wife’s sister who became recently an American citizen as I’m thinking to have her apply for her my wife “her sister” as she already agreed. I know that now wife is eligible to apply for green card / citizen ship throw her sister, but I’m not sure what are the right process and procedures, who is the legal contact that we should be in touch with to guide us? is it obligatory to hire lawyer? if yer; who do you recommend? how long usually it takes to earn green card if all goes well? how long does wife need to stay in USA for green card process? these kind of questions and much more I don’t have answer for it. I know this is have nothing to do with DV lottery system but thought since you have experience you could help and advice please if there is any governmental site or link for further details?
This is so important to me Simon.
Thank you Sir.
September 14, 2016 at 23:32
I can tell you that the process will take MANY years. However, I don’t advise on that type of immigration. It sounds like you would be best to hire a lawyer.
September 15, 2016 at 00:37
Hi Brit, thank you for prompt and brief response what I haven’t mention in my note that I tried before throw DV 2015 lottery but unfortunately it didn’t work. now it seems waiting for Lottery would be more longer and not secure therefore I’m looking for this type of emigration. Could you recommend some good lawyer/s to contact please.
Thank you.
September 15, 2016 at 00:40
I don’t have a recommendation for a lawyer. FYI, a Citizen sponsoring a sibling is in the F4 category which currently has a 13 year waiting list.
September 14, 2016 at 23:16
THANKS FOR THE WISE REPONSE BRIT. I HIGHLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.
September 15, 2016 at 02:07
Hello, Im a lottery winner from oceania and had a question on the criminal records. When i was younger I got caught urinating in a park and got a disorderly conduct charge which I had to appear in court for. In court the conviction was wiped from my record (known here as a spent conviction) so it doesn’t appear on my criminal record. I received a fine for this charge. I have the court record showing that the conviction was pardoned and that the outcome was that I was fined. I also have my police check stating I have nothing against my name. Will this cause me any problems at the interview?
Thanks Simon.
PS. Great website have gotten a lot of great info over the journey so far so just wanted to say thanks (first time I’ve posted a question but long time reader)
September 15, 2016 at 03:22
This won’t be an issue. It is not a “crime of moral turpitude” – which is what they care about.
September 15, 2016 at 05:25
Hi Brit,
Hope you are having a great time and satisfaction for the help that you are providing to us all.
If you have forgotten, I’d received a mail from USCIS and when I asked you about it you told me that you don’t know about such case. Well, I have mailed to USCIS, US Embassy at Kathmandu and KCC. Well, following is the abstract from the mail I received from KCC:
This e-mail is not from the U.S. Department of State. As noted on our website at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/general/fraud.html, there has been a notable increase in the number fraudulent e-mails and letters sent to Diversity Visa applicants. In these messages, scammers often claim to be affiliated with the U.S. Department of State in an attempt to convince DV applicants to send them personal information or money. The e-mail you have forwarded is one of these fraudulent messages.
Based on the information you have provided, your interview location will be in Kathmandu. When we have scheduled your interview, you will be required to log into the Entrant Status Check (ESC) to view your appointment notification. At that time, please verify that your appointment is scheduled for the correct post. If for any reason it is not, you may contact KCC again at [email protected].
I would like to inform you and all the fellow DV Applicants and winners that I received an email from [email protected] which provided me a receipt no asking me to check the same at http://www.uscis.gov telling me I have been accepted and routed to USCIS Potomac Service Center. When I checked the same in USCIS site, it told me that my biometric appointment is scheduled (the receipt no. proved to be working out). It really worried me and my family. I mailed several mails to USCIS, KCC and Local US embassy. The mail I received today from KCC cleared every doubts from me telling that it is a fraudulent mail.
I am sharing this information because I know that many of you might also have or might get such message which looks so valid that might give us sleepless nights. But in such a case please contact KCC or USCIS (Local embassy doesn’t help much in such cases).
Brit, hope I shared some information that you might not have been aware of but now can surely help others with because those receipt no. of the fraud mail really works out in USCIS official site.
God bless us all!
September 15, 2016 at 13:52
Interesting development. There must have been some malicious link within the email – because sending you to official websites doesn’t benefit a scammer.
September 15, 2016 at 05:53
Dear Brit
I won DV in 2013 and came in USA from Nepal. I was married with a 1 years son when I won lottery. In my case, my marital status was Single because I filled up DV form as a single even if I was married. After coming in USA , I filed separate cases as a lawful permanent residents and approved by USCIC and forward to NVC. Currently, my case is in NVC under review process of affidavit I84 form. How do Nvc and embassy handle my cases. Do they treat them like normal way and give visa to my wife and son? Or they can decline to grant visa because of marital issue.
September 15, 2016 at 13:49
If they realize that you lied on your DV case about your marital status it is likely they will consider deportation proceedings against you. You obtained your GC through a lie. So, it depends how thorough they are in checking your previous case.
September 15, 2016 at 19:13
Dear Brit thank you for giving answer.
Is there any precedents of deportation case like me? If yes, is there any way or legal process I can avoid being deported?
Thank you
September 15, 2016 at 19:45
Yes people have been deported in cases like yours. If they start that sort of action, you will need to discuss your options with a lawyer.
September 16, 2016 at 15:06
Go head and call NVC and ask hold the reviewing process. Wait until get citizen and start new process. Can I go through this process to avoid further adverse?
Please suggest me
September 16, 2016 at 15:36
They can deport you even after citizenship because you lied to get the Green Card which got you to citizenship. I have no suggestions on how to “fix” this. You can decide to proceed and take the risk of the fraud being caught or not proceed. It really is your choice.

Hello,
my wife and I from Egypt and she is a DV 2017 winner, she just received the notice a week ago (as additional names). We are currently live in the states and while we are filling DS-260 we were asked if we want to adjust status without leaving the United States and we checked yes. After DS-260 form completion, we have been asked to contact our local USCIS Field Office for further information about booking an appointment. We already booked an appointment for next week, so my questions
1-Why wouldn’t we asked to fill I-485 instead as we are currently in US,
2- What is the purpose of this appointment? will be there another interview for the Green Card
3- I am still didn’t get the meaning of 7500 for Egypt, my number is way about that.
Many thanks
September 15, 2016 at 13:45
Your appointment will be a waste of time.
You cannot file an I-485 until your number is current (meaning below the number shown on the visa bulletin). Since you were in the 2nd draw, your number must be quite high, so it will be some months before you can file for adjustment of status.
So – what is your current visa and what is your case number range/country.

September 15, 2016 at 15:21
So why they asked me to make an appointment though ? My current visa is H4, just received it a month ago for three year. 42K, Egypt.
September 15, 2016 at 16:30
They often just say things to get people off the phone. Attend the interview if you like – let me know how it goes. 🙂
Now you are able to do AOS from H4 (and presumably H1). However, your case number is quite high as I mentioned so you will not be able to start the process for months (until the Egypt number shown on the VB is higher than your number 42XXX.
In the meantime you can learn about the process. Click the link below and study the spreadsheet linked from the first post on that thread. ONCE you have read that, most of your questions will be answered, but if you still have questions you can post on that thread and look for responses from “Sm1smom”.

September 15, 2016 at 19:20
I really appreciate your help.
in Visa bulletin it shows Africa and except Egypt numbers cutoff, which number should i watch, Egypt one doesn’t go up more than 10K based on 2016 records.
September 15, 2016 at 19:44
Like I said….
“until the Egypt number shown on the VB is higher than your number 42XXX”.

Hello Brit, The answers you provided here are so helpful. My wife is a selectee of DV2017 and I have a quick question. She graduated 2years college in the States and she has a diploma..Does she still need to request for “Graduation Cert./transcripts” from the college to complete supportive documents?..or simply prepare the diploma(original plus one photo copy for submission) and taking it with her to interview is fine..At the same time I just wonder if they even require graduation cert. from her High School though she graduated US College. Your prompt reply is very much appreciated. Ike
September 15, 2016 at 13:41
The diploma itself should be fine. I would advise her to also take high school proof.
September 16, 2016 at 02:47
Thank you for your swift advice, Brit! Okay, I will tell her about it..Let me ask you a couple more things as follows if you please:
1. Are those supportive documents(i.e. birth cert. marriage cert. graduation cert.) 6months validity?
..In regard to Police Record I’ve already heard 6 month validity though..is it correct?
2. I’m her derivative and I also have a son who is Junior right now attending Senior High school. Do they require my graduation cert. as well?.. and if so, even for my son, should we need to prepare some kind of documet maybe called “Attendence cert”?…As far as I know there is no such document mentioned in Instructions, however, I’m so curious..Thanks again Brit and have a good night.
September 16, 2016 at 02:53
1. Some documents (for example birth certs) are naturally older than 6 months. Police certs should be newer than 6 months.
2. Only she need to provide education documents. Your needed documents are simpler and listed in the instructions you are supposed to read…
September 16, 2016 at 13:03
Your super quick!! Thank you so much Brit!
September 15, 2016 at 08:08
Hi Brit, considering that they say ur experience should be within five PREVIOUS years. Does this Me an that if ur second year of working meets you at the time of interview it won’t be counted??
September 15, 2016 at 13:31
No it does not mean that. The 2 years could be the 2 years immediately before the interview (theoretically).
September 15, 2016 at 12:35
Hi Brit,
I am trying to complete DS-260, but I’m struggling with the question on 4. Present and previous address information,
I start by providing the current address, then backwards my previous addresses since age 16, starting with my previous one before the current and backwards! I get the notification of error?
I my my approach right, or shall i start with my address at age of 16 then other addresses until the current one?
September 15, 2016 at 13:07
Your approach sounds correct.
September 15, 2016 at 13:24
But still, i get the following notification : There is a gap greater than a month in the dates you have provided since the date you turned sixteen. Please include ALL addresses where you have lived since the date you turned 16 years old.
I am starting with present address then;
Next one prior to the present …and so one backwards?
September 15, 2016 at 14:00
Check the dates. Carefully.
September 15, 2016 at 13:30
Hi salmon am in Nairobi, my visa was approved, they told me with in one week it Wil be ready, so from 17th agust 2016 to now no answer
September 15, 2016 at 13:57
Contact the embassy.
September 15, 2016 at 14:15
Okay thank you
September 15, 2016 at 23:31
hi Brit, I want to make some changes to my spouse’s and children’s DS-260 form, and do I have to list all their names, date of births with one case number in one e mail?
September 15, 2016 at 23:51
You have to provide the principal winners details and then be clear about which DS260s you want opened.
September 16, 2016 at 04:27
Hi Brit,
I just wanted to clear one more doubt. Can the principal applicant be interviewed in one place (native land) and the derivative do Adjustment of Status?
September 16, 2016 at 05:14
It may be technically possible (I’m not certain), but very likely to go wrong. I would advise against it.
September 16, 2016 at 05:30
Hi Brit,I am a 2017 dv winner,I lost my confirmation but later got it found. But unfortunately I noticed someone has been added to my case as my spouse which of course they are not.Even.though I played as single and now my marital status has change to married,so what can I do to add my actual spouse on my case wherein someone else has already been added to my case who is not my spouse and even who I dont know.So what can I do to add my actual spouse?
September 16, 2016 at 05:51
When did you marry you actual spouse? How did the other spouse get added?
September 16, 2016 at 08:08
When i am filling my DS260 form, on my educational background part i have only filled my university education and i left out my high school information will it have a problem.
When do you think the interview for 41,3XX case number?
September 16, 2016 at 14:02
I answered part 1.
For part 2.

September 16, 2016 at 21:00
Hi salmon what is the mean af administrative processeing
September 16, 2016 at 22:22
From USCIS:-
“Administrative Processing
Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant’s interview by a Consular Officer. Applicants are advised of this requirement during their visa interview. Most administrative processing is resolved within 90 days of the visa interview. When administrative processing is required, the timing will vary based on the individual circumstances of each case. No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance. ”
FYI, AP times vary greatly – some people wait days and some wait months.
