Hello,
Any idea if applying for DS-260 while having one citizenship and going to the appointment at the US Embassy already having another citizenship is something that could bring in any complications? It happened that I am amidst of the naturalization process in the country of my current residence and will lose my current citizenship in the coming months to receive a new one. Speaking about DV Lottery 2020.
Thanks,
Michael
November 18, 2019 at 21:12
No problem as long as you are accurate/honest in your USA process.
November 17, 2019 at 19:32

November 18, 2019 at 04:04
You will still be disqualified because you knowingly did not list your three children. There is no way around this.
November 18, 2019 at 21:15
No. You will be disqualified.
November 18, 2019 at 22:12
Dear Brit.
I submitted all documents to KCC and ds260 too. I discovered i submitted a mistake document. I want to send it again after correction. So should i explain it in my email or just type UPDATE ??
November 18, 2019 at 22:41
Just ask for an unlock. No need to detail why.
November 19, 2019 at 05:02

November 21, 2019 at 21:41
Hi Brit!
I am a winner of DV2020, case 2020SA31XX Cuba, 2 derivatives.
Thank you for your patience and provide us with all the necessary information.
Just a couple of clarifications:
1. When filling out DS260 in: Present work / education / training information, all my work experience must be recorded, that is, all the jobs that I have had since I graduated from university to date (10 years) ???
2. For a family like mine (3 people) what income do you think the I-134 sponsor should have if his/her family is at least 4 people? I have read in interview experiences that 45,000 a year is not enough???
Thank you!
November 23, 2019 at 16:54
1. Yes
2. There is a formula. britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
November 17, 2019 at 21:06
Hello sir
We entered us on August 30, the gc of my wife and my son has arrived yesterday but mine not, i was the principle applicant, is it normal or there may be a problem? Shall i have to contact them or it I should wait more time?
November 18, 2019 at 21:15
Patience.
November 17, 2019 at 22:07
Brit, a 2020 winner and husband had to unlock their DS-260 because the person who filled it out for them, wrote 2019 instead of 2018 as their of marriage. They are concerned the CO might find this suspicious. Do you think this change could cause them any trouble?
November 18, 2019 at 21:15
No.
November 17, 2019 at 22:58
Hi Simon. Will i have to fill the next 1040 form, given that my first entry will be by the end of this month?

November 18, 2019 at 21:16
Yes.
November 17, 2019 at 23:01
Hello Britt

I was born in Sudan while my father was posted in Indian embassy in Sudan as Diplomat. Both my parents are born in India.I am currently staying in US on dependent Visa. Am I eligible to apply for cross charigibity on the basis of my Country of birth or my Country of birth will be considered as India considering this FAM 503.2-4(C) ” An alien born in a foreign state in which neither parent was born or had residence at the alien’s time of birth ”
Please advise.
November 18, 2019 at 21:17
Is this about DV lottery – if so, your country would be considered to be Sudan.
November 19, 2019 at 22:59
Thank Brit. But my father was working as foreign diplomat when I was born there. Also, there is exception to birthright citizenship for Foreign diplomat in US also. Won’t the same exception be applicable in my case.
Please clarify.
November 20, 2019 at 05:35
I already gave a clear, accurate answer.
November 18, 2019 at 01:28
Hi simon
Thank you for your prevoius advise and guide. Now I am here in USA and already got green card for all family.
I have question : my childrens already got green card and they are willing to stay to our home country for two years, then they will come back to usa. Is there any problem if yes , what is the process can they stay for two years in home country
November 18, 2019 at 21:18
If they need to stay out of the USA for over 1 year, they should apply for an I-131 BEFORE they leave the USA.
November 18, 2019 at 02:27
Hey Brit, I received an appointment date and time for DV2020. Then I was asked via email to register my appointment to “ais” website (it was stated to create only one account). While entering the information, I entered the wrong DS 260 for one of the applicants. I cannot edit or cancel the appointment. Instructions say that I need to cancel and start a new application but I do not see any option to cancel. Do you have any advice on how I should proceed with this? I am afraid to just create another account without deleting the current one. Is this just to make the appointment or it might have any other impact in the system?
November 18, 2019 at 21:22
I a not an expert on that system. You must use your own judgement.
November 18, 2019 at 03:42
Hi Sir,
Do we can add multiple completed courses under one institute for education information in ds260? or do we only need to include latest course that have completed under one institution?
Thanks
November 18, 2019 at 21:23
No need to overthink it. Just decide.
November 18, 2019 at 05:43
Hi Brit,
LPR here, activated my status this February, went home to tie up loose ends and came back and made the permanent move in September (moved from Australia). My question is: if I visit Australia for 2-3 weeks over the Xmas/New year period would this raise any flags or cause for concern or is it safe to assume there will be no issues with this for the officers at the airport/immigration? Thank you.
November 18, 2019 at 21:23
No problem.
November 21, 2019 at 04:38
Dear Brit
I was selected as a winner of DV2020,but my case number seems to be way too high.
My case number is 2020AS56XX.
Does this number represent my number only for AS region or for all the applicants?
What are the chances that I’m going to scheduled for an interview, since I’m over 5600th in the line?
Your advise is highly appreciate!
November 23, 2019 at 16:38
That number is not high. Not every number in front of you has selectees.
November 26, 2019 at 05:00
Thank You Mr. Brit,
One last question, As my current pofession I’m working with the shipping company ( Star Cruise ) as a Casino Inspector. While forwarding my ds 260 form back on sep 27 2019 I was in the Cruise, on 3rd Oct I received a mail from KCC asking to submit the required document. On 10th Nov I sent all the document including police report of my country(Nepal). I received an auto email from KCC.Here my question is Do I need to submit police report of the following country( China,Hongkong,Japan) since I was working in Cruiseliner(Sea) not on land. My current contract that I employed with the shipping company was10 months 4 days, now I’m on vacation now back in my country.
Please do suggest. THANK YOU
November 27, 2019 at 22:52
I suggest you read the instructions. There is a criteria of whn you are expected to submit a police cert.
November 18, 2019 at 05:56
Dear Mr.Simon,

November 22, 2019 at 21:31
1-hi. I would like my wife to join me later after my trip. What should I write in my ds 260?
2- Will I also submit documents to kcc for her as I do if she travels later?
November 23, 2019 at 17:32
1. What trip? You need to be more clear.
2. HOW much later?
November 23, 2019 at 18:55
1-This is for the lottery dv.
2-I would like her to join me 1 year after
November 23, 2019 at 19:30
The DV process provides an immigrant visa but that must be activated within 6 months. It’s easy and relatively cheap.
If 6 months is too soon, then you have to sponsor her later through an I-130 process which is more complex, more expensive and could take 2 years.
November 22, 2019 at 10:45
Dear Mr. Simon
I am also a dv 2020 winner and my case number is Af 28xx I also received documents request email by KCC on October 11 guiding me how to email supporting documents to their email address after submittingthe Ds260. But one of my friend who was a Dv winner told me that is not normal , that I should field the Ds260 form and wait for them to emails me to send supporting docs . I submitted my Ds260 on October 12 that’s the next day but still now no email from KCC and my number is small .
1- So I want to know if my friend was Wright
2- or I should send the documents as they say in the email ?
I am confused please help me
Thanks very much and sorry for my English.
November 23, 2019 at 17:22

Hi Britsimon. Really sorry, similar type of question again. My sponsor have filled up i-134 and provided me with W2, recent paystub and his ID. I am from Nepal. Here in Nepal my consultant says 1040 is very necessary as well. Now the question is that after i supply the CO above mentioned documents at the time of interview; if the CO again wants a 1040 from me, what am i supposed to do. And incase of failure to submit 1040, will the CO put the case on pending or reject the case. Please Britsimon Your Advice is so much needed. Thank you.
November 18, 2019 at 21:37
Get the 1040.
November 18, 2019 at 15:49

November 18, 2019 at 18:31
It was a Wednesday 06.Nov. & appointment time was 7:00am. On that cold morning we (family of 4) reached the embassy gates at 6:20am, went through first security point and then the second point – here we are asked for our passports and also asked for appointment letter.then through the 3rd security point, thorough checking was done and all electronics handed over to security officers.
We were then directed to another department where we were given a coupon with a number to identify us.
Time check 8:20am, we were called in to submit some documents (both original & copy of each asked) & of course a few questions asked – it’s like a chit- chat free style (like how you talk to a teller as you are being served). At this point you have to be organised with your documents well. After handing in all that officer needed, as a main applicant I was asked to make the payment – visa fees.
Time check 8:35am, we were asked to wait in the shade for our number to be called again. Here we waited for quiet sometime but later called.
The interview
Me: Good morning
CO: Are you good.
Me/my daughter: We are very well, thanks.
Co: Raise your right hand to swear that all we tell is the truth
Me: Yes I do
Co: Have you ever been to the US
Me: Yes
Co: When and why?
Me: Visited the states twice but all was to attend a conference
Co: OK.
Co: Where you working while there?
Me: No.
Co:OK
Co: Your visa has been approved and will be ready in one week.
In this whole this be truthful, precise & straight, organised, confidence, respect, audibility,a good listener are a few things that you should exercise and be too prepared.
The CO can ask you anything
Thanks

Dear Mr Simon,
I have a question about the documents
I already recieved the instructions email of documents; but my case number is high eu39xxx.
The question is:
Have I to send the documents?
The police certificate expiry in 6 months.
Could I send the documents and if the certificate expired bring at the interview the new one? Or I have to wait February for example and then send the documents?
For that reason I asked the question.
Thank you for the kindly answer.
Sofia
November 18, 2019 at 21:54
You will have to send the ocuments at some point but there is no need to rush – you could wait 2 or 3 months.
November 18, 2019 at 19:32
Dear Brit,
I have a doubt about my case. My husband was selected. His case number is 2020EU00036XXX. The case is that he has 13 years of formal education. In my country there is a professional secondary school which is three year course. When we found out that he was selected, he immediately has enrolled in the fourth year of secondary education. He will finish the exams next month. My doubt is, should I wait for him to finish the exams to send the DS – 260 and the rest of the required documents, or I can send them now? If I send them now which date should I put in the question when he has finished the secondary school? I was thinking that because we have a high case number, maybe I can wait until the January and then send the form and the scanned documents. Last month, I received an e-mail in which they reminded me that I should send them as soon as possible the DS-260 and the required document. Thank you very much for your help.
November 18, 2019 at 21:55
You could wait for 2 or 3 months with no problem. He must meet the requirements by the day of the interview.
November 19, 2019 at 05:43
Thank you very much. I deeply appreciate your help.
November 18, 2019 at 21:50
Hi Simon,
I’ve been reading people’s posts and noticed how many of them email KCC after submitting supported documents for confirmation, regardless of receiving the Auto Reply Confirmation email.
1.Is it necessary to do that or does KCC contact you for additional documents they need?
2.I’ve sent my email on 10/25, is it too late to email KCC for confirmation(if it’s required)?
Thank you!
November 18, 2019 at 21:57
1. No it is not necessary.
2. Not required.
November 19, 2019 at 10:30
Hello sir, thanks for all your information. I wish to know whether I have to change the visa fee to dollars before going for the interview. I am ISRAEL from Ghana.
Thanks
November 20, 2019 at 04:58
It varies by embassy – they usually accept local currency or US dollars.
November 19, 2019 at 00:58
We got married after dv on may and we did passed our interview but my husband was kept for hold because the officer told that they don’t have a free quota for visa? What does that mean? I asked him about the quota and he told us they might know the availability at the end of Nov. So what’s this? Normally i got my visa approve but husbands on hold without justifying any reason just for not availability of quota?
November 19, 2019 at 04:23
When did you complete the DS260 as a married couple?
November 19, 2019 at 06:12
On first week of June
November 20, 2019 at 04:50
There is some confusion somewhere – but be patient.
November 19, 2019 at 01:48

November 20, 2019 at 05:14
If your document is inaccurate you should get it corrected.
November 19, 2019 at 18:53
Hello Brit,
I have sent my documents last oct 23rd and didnt get reply till today. So based on my request to kcc abt the status of my email they reply based on the following email.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Collect and submit your documents promptly. Your case will not be scheduled for a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate until KCC has received and processed all required documents. Missing or illegible documents will delay processing of your case. If you cannot obtain a particular document, send a scanned or photographed explanation in of why you cannot obtain the document, as an attachment in .jpeg or .pdf format, to [email protected], with your case number in the subject line. Diversity visas are numerically limited and there is no guarantee a visa will be available. Only a consular officer can determine, at the time of the visa interview, if you are qualified to receive a Diversity Visa.
In order to continue processing your case, all documents should be submitted as attachments to your email to ensure they are properly received. We ask that you use the following method to name and attach your files:
• Your DV case number;
• The full name of the applicant whose document you scanned; and
• The document name or form number.
For example:
2020AF00938653_John_Doe_Passport.pdf
2020AF00938653_Jane_Doe_Birth_Certificate.pdf
Use your case number as the subject of the email. The maximum email size is 30MB. If the total size of your attachments is larger than 30MB, send multiple emails using your case number as the subject of each email. Please send your documents for KCC review only after you have collected all of the required documents for yourself and all accompanying family members. Send documents only to the [email protected] email address.
Documents photographed or scanned with a mobile phone are acceptable, but every document must be fully legible. Illegible or incomplete documents must be re-submitted and will delay processing of your case.
You and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect the civil documents that are required to support your visa application.
Passport Biographic Page: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a photocopy of the biographic data page of a currently valid passport. The biographic data page is the page with your photograph, name, date, and place of birth.
Birth Certificate: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a scan of an original birth certificate or certified copy.
Marriage Certificate: If you are married, you must submit a scan of your original marriage certificate or certified copy.
Marriage Termination Documentation: If you were previously married, you must submit scanned evidence of the termination of EVERY prior marriage you have had. Your scanned evidence must be of an original or certified copy of one of the following documents: FINAL legal divorce decree, death certificate, or annulment papers.
Military Records: If you served in the military of any country, you must submit a scanned copy of your military record.
Police Certificates: If you are 16 years of age or older, you must submit a scanned copy of a police certificate from all countries you have lived. Please refer to travel.state.gov for more information.
Court Record: If you have been convicted of a crime, provide a certified copy of each court record and any prison record.

Hello Sir Greeting,
I have a question regarding social media,
1. “Social Media”
Select from the list below each social media platform you have used within the last five years. In the space next to the platform’s name, enter the username or handle you have used on that platform. Please do not provide your passwords. If you have used more than one platform or more than one username or handle on a single platform, click the ‘Add Another’ button to list each one separately. If you have not used any of the listed social media platforms in the last five years, select ‘None.’
Social Media Provider/Platform
Social Media Identifier
XXXXX
2. Other Social Media
Do you wish to provide information about your presence on any other websites or applications you have used within the last five years to create or share content (photos, videos, status updates, etc.)?
Yes No
My Question or Confusion
In the above questions, I have answered or provided my all social media accounts but again there is question regarding other social media in question number 2. I guess it is asking about other social media besides above mention social media but my confusion is that it does not have option like I don’t have any other social media. Instead it has asked that our willingness to provide other information about presence on other social media. Yes, I wish to provide my all information but I dont have any other social media, so what should I do sir?
Do I need to add gmail or quora on it or answer no on it?
Regards.
November 20, 2019 at 05:31
Social media. It’s not email. It’s not quora.
It’s not a trick question.
November 20, 2019 at 06:54
Social media means Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Google, Tiktok, Pinterest…not Quora or dating sites.

hello sir again,
As per your recommendation I am unlocking the DS260 and put the information about my work study. I am now in USA on f1 visa and I do work in the college for 20 hours.
1.Do you suggest me to add another section on the current employer/school section for the work study which i am working now?
2. I have mention student as my primary occupation and I am adding another occupation to put my work information, so what is the other occupation do i have to mention as I am full time student but I do work in college?
November 20, 2019 at 05:37
1. Student.
2. See 1.
November 21, 2019 at 00:57
Hello,
As mentioned earlier, I have use student as primary occupation, so as per your suggestion I tried to use student in additional occupation bit it does not allow to use same occupation twice, as I said I am student and i work 20 works in college as student worker.
It has option called “other”, and it has box to specify other occupation. can i use other and specify that student worker or student employment as my other occupation?
Regards

Hi Sir,
My wife won DV 2020 though we married before selection.
I have some issues that are getting me nervous.
*1. She had 5C’s in her WASSCE and Failed 3 paper (English F, Math F, Social Studies F) .
I asked her to rewrite the failed subjects and has written them this year and had successfully passed.(Nov/Dec). She was teaching while doing Distance Education when I married her in December 2018. She isn’t Teaching currently.
*2. She isn’t fluent in English
*3. She’s currently not working but I’m now working with my talent as a Keyboardist and a sound Engineer.
Formally I was an Account Officer in a private school and also finished my National Service at one of the well known Ghanaian Banks.
*4. We’re living in my Father’s house. Hard to issue a financial statement.
Please I need your advice on my issue.
Can we proceed to fill the ds-260?
November 23, 2019 at 05:41
1. There is some risk there.
2. Irrelevant.
3. Irrelevant.
4. You would need an I-134.
November 23, 2019 at 22:38
Can you please specify the exact risk?
Those ones she wrote this year were ; English C4, Maths A1 Social A1 in addition to her main WASSCE 4C’s
7 subjects successfully passed.

Hey BritSimon I lost my immunization records but I indicated that in the ds-260 form. I live in Kenya and it might be abit hard to retrieve the records. Could that disqualify me?
November 23, 2019 at 06:32
No problem.
November 20, 2019 at 15:53
Good afternoon Sir. Brit…..
Trust you are doing well…
Errrrm…. please from the little knowledge gotten from reading ur blogs make me understand that, KCC requesting for documents is roughly 3 months. My case number is AF 35xxx and I submitted my ds260 in July but I haven’t receive any email from KCC requesting documents.
Please is this normal or should contact them?
November 23, 2019 at 06:37
You can contact them.
November 20, 2019 at 18:49
Hello Brit
can DS 260 be submitted incompleted , for example not answering a question with yes/no?
Regards
November 23, 2019 at 06:41
No
November 20, 2019 at 19:01
Hi Brit, I hope my question is not that odd. One of the required document is the copy of biographic data page of the passport. Should I scan the passport open which will show the biographic page and the page next to it or just hide that page and show just the biographic page.

Regarding visitor / tourist visa ( b2) , I am at USA from sri lanka. I am green card holder for 3 years. So I sponsor my mother . She went to interview with all sponsor documents (annual income more than 35 K ) . And she brought documents like bank statement, land property letter and told them husband & 02 sons staying with her
But They refused the visa. They gave the reason it says fail to demonstrate the documents to make sure return back to my country.
But they dint ask anything & see anything. But they rejected the visa. So I gave 1 134 affadavit of support as well with my tax documents. What else can I do now for next interview? Thanks in advance.

November 21, 2019 at 01:23

November 23, 2019 at 16:34

Hello,
My interview is on January .
At that time my sponsor could send me welcome letter, source of income and employment verification letter and he has payslip of every month also but his income tax file of 2019 won’t be completed before my interview and his income is low in 2018. So in this case what is better to do ?? These letter will work or I should change the sponsor??

November 21, 2019 at 04:27
Hi apsana,
Hope you doing well,
I want ask you when did you received your 2Nl letter for January interview?
November 21, 2019 at 16:44
Hi Apsana,
I am also a selectee for 2020, Nepal. I hope my case number (92XX) will be scheduled in two months. My documents are submitted and received by KCC well. I am fine with every other process but getting confused with this new health proclamation, ‘Presidential Proclamation 9945 on the “Suspension of Entry of Immigrants Who Will Financially Burden the United States Healthcare System.’
How are you dealing with this?
Would you please share your experience? It will be very helpful to us.
Thanks and wish you best for your interview.
November 23, 2019 at 16:48
You should read my recent articles about that.
May 1, 2020 at 23:28
