November 6, 2016 at 14:49
So for that case the interview will be based ONLY on the case number – https://britsimonsays.com/dv2017-basic-questions/
November 6, 2016 at 10:46
Hello Simon,
I am just wondering why the case of Ethiopia and Egypt is sluggish? When I see it from previous years even case number 15xxx will not be current until May as per my calculation. I wanna hear your take Sir thx
November 6, 2016 at 14:47
There are a lot of applicants from there. Don’t worry about it – it’s normal.

November 7, 2016 at 15:26
I just counted your questions on exactly this topic. You have asked the same thing EIGHT times. Eight! Please stop. I have answered already.
November 10, 2016 at 12:20
Ayte tesfaye!!
As you are from XXX country (Ethiopia) where the case number is low and distributed throughout the year!.Therefore, you need to be patient. Your submission date may not matter if your CN is high!! So…so you will be fine. Just R.E.L.A.X!!

Hi Mr. Simon, Happy past Halloween!
1. A close friend of mine, who lives in U.S. for a long time owns a business and wants to help me by hiring me. He would be my employer when I get there. At the same time, I used his name and living address on my DS-260.
My question is, how do I prove that I have a job employer and offering me a job in U.S. Is there any employer’s form like I-??? or some kinds of employer’s letter?
2. I used the link you provided on your FAQ page to check my case status on CEAC, with zeros and without as it shown. Unfortunately, I could not get any information about my case status except “Invalid Immigrant Visa Case Number”. Please, let us know if there is any other ways OR should I e-mail to KCC to know my status?
Thank you very much and enjoy your day!
November 6, 2016 at 14:47
1. An offer letter of employment. If he has a real business he will already know how to do that.
2. CEAC data does not have 2017 cases loaded yet – and won’t until January. Your status is “waiting” that’s all you need to know.

November 6, 2016 at 11:31
my friend who won dv do not have his middld name on the high school certificate due to a mistake done by the exam councle but his pasport and other credentials have his middle and the middle name was included in the dv he won. will that not be a problem during the visa interview
November 6, 2016 at 14:42
No problem
November 6, 2016 at 12:28
Sir,please be kin and tell me your trust worthy response to this my own case.
I got my son in March 2012 and got legally married to his mother my wife in Dec 2012.
In September 2013,I took a 10year little girl child to my wife’s cousin to stay with us and take care of my boy as his mother was still a student.we had taken full custody of this little girl as a member of the family.In May 2015 I and my wife decided to legally adopt this child as her biological parents are peasants with 5children. with the consent of her parents I filed for adoption in the high Court of my jurisdiction.In June 2015 the adoption was granted and all adoption papers were signed and handed to me and my wife as her adoptive parents.ln Nov 2015’we entered for DV 2017 like a family of 4 with all original documents.I am selected like the PA but the name of my adoption child/girl doesn’t bear any name of her adoptive parents(me n my wife) But it is inscribed behind her original Birth Certificate by the commissioner of oaths at the high Court that the said child is legally adopted by I and my wife.Her B/C has the names of her biological parents and it is with that that we enter the DV for her.My questions are;
Based on your huge experience, does a case like mind have any visa constraint for me and my family?I feel scared as say the Birth Certificate of my adopted little girl does not bear my name as an adoptive father..any impact?
My case number AF615 submitted my forms on June 18 when can I expect interview?
You are just so helpful Mr.Brit, your “Green Tree must grow”
November 6, 2016 at 14:40
No problem about the name. You will need to show all adoption paperwork. For some immigration cases an adoption has to have taken place two years earlier, so – they might apply that rule to your case. If that happens, ask them to delay the whole case until June 2017 when you will have the two years.
Your interview will probably be in January.
November 6, 2016 at 20:38
Thanks Sir!Medical reports expire after 6 months!n it will be more costly to get another 4.if the 2year mandate is raise by the CO,is there a possibility to approve 3 of the family members and say apply for a waiver for the 2year adoption clause before or after June for her?You know more better that there no guarantee for AP dear Brit. The whole issue is itchy!!Thanks for clarifying
November 6, 2016 at 20:52
Also I forgot to mention that I send her to school immediately I took custody of her, that is in 2013.Can the handy academic records serve as support in backing up that I simply legalized an existing relationship?
November 7, 2016 at 00:33
Maybe.
November 7, 2016 at 00:36
There is no waiver. Just accept AP. To avoid wasting the medical, attend the interview without the medical (which will also cause AP), then have the mediCal once you know how they will handle your case.
November 7, 2016 at 05:14
Thanks Brit,”a clear mind fears no accusations”.
Will attend the interview with the MRs and accept the outcome.will then post my experience till the “rivers run dry”
November 6, 2016 at 13:52
Hi brit! In the ds-260 where they are asking about institutional education we neel also to write about primary school,i mean year we started primary school and year we finished ? Or just answer as they say secondary school or above , i mean start just write from secondary school . Koz we start primary at 6 years old and normally secondary at 12 years old . All i need to is that we will start to write from 12 or 13 years old when we start secondary school till high school or must we start with 6 year old when we start primary school.
November 6, 2016 at 14:35
Secondary level and above.
November 6, 2016 at 14:53
hi Mr. Simon. i have mailed us embassy at addis ababa, Ethiopia if Affidavit of support/AOS is required. but this was their response:”Affidavit Of Support(I-134) from Not required.”. I also asked last year dv winner who is now in US, he also replied the same. am saying this because my petitioner told me that he cant get me the AOS b/c he recently filed the form and sent it to other person, so he said its difficult for him to get again the AoS.
Sir. what do suggest me?
November 6, 2016 at 15:04
Just because it is not routinely *required* does not mean it is never requested in Addis. It is, sometimes. So – it’s up to you to decide whether to take that risk or not.
November 6, 2016 at 16:30
Hay brit the great
if I fill dv with my family can I fill along too
November 6, 2016 at 16:59
You can only have one entry for yourself. But then can be listed as a derivative on someone else’s entry (as a child, or spouse)
November 6, 2016 at 16:59
Mr Brit,
I had mine interview at Accra embassy and everything went successfully but the C.O told me at the end that he will time to determine if I qualify for visa or not. He gave me a sheet with AP checked.
During the interview he asked me why I changed my place of birth on the edv( was Sunyani on edv but had Odumase correctly done on the ds260, passport and birth cert). I told him Odumase is a suburb of sunyani but nevertheless I should have written Odumase in the initial entry. He nodded and said its OK.
Then he kept asking why I wrote two secondary school exams even though I did not fail the first one( I registered for private SSCE whilst about to wrote the main exams in school and I happened to pass all subjects on the two certs). I explained to him and he was busily comparing the results on both certs. Finally he told me he needs time to decide my case and so gave the sheet with AP ticked.
My question is, is the AP about the change in place of birth or the certs I presented since I thought they verify the certs at their end before an applicant meets a C.O. all my docs were genuine.
Awaits your response. Thanks
November 6, 2016 at 18:19
There is nothing I can say. The CO raised a couple of issues, but I cannot predict the outcome. You just have to wait and see.
November 7, 2016 at 18:29

Hi brit,
just a quick question, i’v reed your post about
” if you are selected to apply for a DV, you will need to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge in the United States before being issued a visa. This evidence may be in the form of a combination of your personal assets…”
I’m currently a student and i get my diplom in may 2017, as i can’t work now, can my parent be those who can demonstrate that i will not become a public charge during the interview ? By showing what we have (house, car, banc acount….) ?
My goal is to go stray to the us after my graduation if i’m selected and find a job.
November 6, 2016 at 18:11
Your parents could gift you the money required. Otherwise get an I-134 from a US resident.
November 6, 2016 at 19:26

Hi,
I am supposed to face a visa interview from Nepal; I am a Nepali. But I am in Hong Kong now. I submitted my DS 260 on June 1st, 2016. My CN is 250#. For an applicant staying in another country for more than six months, a police report is required; in my case, it is from Hong Kong.
1) Can I leave Hong Kong before it reaches six months, say five months and 20 days and render a police certificate unsolicited?
2) Do I need to change my current address which does not mention Hong Kong because I left for Hong Kong after I had sumbitted my DS 260? What happens if the Consulate Officer finds that my passport contains the visa for Hong Kong and my current address to be in Nepal.
November 7, 2016 at 15:22
You need a police cert for a foreign country for stays over 12 months, not 6.
Just discuss HK with the CO if they ask.
November 7, 2016 at 05:49

Hi Simon, I am applying based on my birth country South Africa. Will my chances for selection improve if I list myself as currently living in the UK or South Africa?
November 7, 2016 at 14:53
It makes no difference.
November 7, 2016 at 13:28
Hello Britsimon,
My case number is around 51## and i had filled my edv with a photograph which didnt met the crieteria……does it make any difference for my second letter……and when will my second letter come approximately? p.s. I am from Nepal. Reply me via mail.
November 7, 2016 at 14:53
If the photo is bad enough it won’t stop your 2NL, but could affect your interview.
As to when – Wait and see.
November 7, 2016 at 14:48
Hi Simon, if a parent has kids, but the kids are married or over the age of 21, or US citizens or LPRs, they do not need to be entered on the parents’ application right? Therefore, the number of kids would be zero, correct?
November 7, 2016 at 14:51
Correct.
November 7, 2016 at 14:51
Ok, great – thanks!
November 7, 2016 at 14:50
Hi brit, first i appreciate your effort that you are doing for those who need help.
I have some questions for you
I am 2017 dv winner from Ethiopia but i have some queries regarding my requirement, Basically i am completed 10th grade and went to vocational college to study nursing diploma and finally graduated after three years course and appointed in an NGO for 1 year and 8months ( from DEc 2008- Aug, 2010) and after this i started to study my bachelor degree , after four year i have graduated in public health at 2014 and since May 25, 2015 i am working in an NGO as program office coordinator till now. My concern is now
1. is it a problem not completing a 12th grade at high school to qualify?
2. i have more than two years work experince in nursing and public health, is it not enough to qualify if am not qualify in education?
3. having bachelor degree is not enough to qualify?
please brit i need your thought on this because i am worried!
Thank in advance brit.

I’ll be participating on the random process? Or i’ll be out for only entered my dads las name?

You will be in the draw.
November 7, 2016 at 17:41
Hello Simon,
1) the police records in my country (venezuela) doesn’t have a expiration date, only have an issuing dated, what would be the length of time that they accept this records…
2) my case is SA18xx an submitted my Ds-260 in early september, when you think could be the estimated month for the interview?
thanks for all your help
November 7, 2016 at 17:51
1. Not a specific length of time, buit obviously you want the police reports to be recent at the time of interview (less than 3 months is wise).
2. Next summer.
November 7, 2016 at 20:58
Hi Brit during ur interview can u ask the CO to postponed ur flight 1-2months ahead?
Or can u forward ur flight?
November 7, 2016 at 21:01
The CO is not a travel agent. They don’t arrange the flights. You can choose your date of travel within the period of the visa expiration – and that is set based on the medical plus 6 months.
November 7, 2016 at 21:20
Simmon on older comments you said that CEAC data does not have 2017 cases loaded yet – and won’t until January that means that no GC will be issued this year? My D-i-L case number si 2017SA000004xx when do you think her interview might be scheduled before the end of the year? Thanks
November 7, 2016 at 21:56
You are adding 2 + 2 and coming up with 137.
The CEAC status system is not necessary for issuing GCs.
Your DIL is doing AOS, so the scheduling of her case is not predictable.
November 8, 2016 at 15:06
Sorry Simon I´m afraid I did not get your answers very clear.
1. You meant CEAC status is not directly related to GC?
2. My DIL case number is current now so no prediction with that?
Thanks
November 8, 2016 at 22:58
1. Forget the CEAC status system!
2. I don’t understand what you mean about prediction.
November 8, 2016 at 00:00
Hi there Simon,.
My husband have a brother who is an american citizen, and he filled I-130 petition for us, the waiting period for getting green card for our resident country is 10 year’s.
A few month’s ago, we asked my husband’s brother to check our status, and we were suprised that the petition is not even approved yet. It’s been 3,5 year’s as we are waiting, soo my question for you dear Simon is..
is this normal procedure, or something is wrong? Because my husband;s brother went to emmigration services and they didn’t alert him that something is actually wrong? so what can we expect, and how many year’s exactly should pass untill we got our green card’s?
Thank you for your effort to answer this question
Sincerelly
Marija
November 8, 2016 at 01:35
I don’t advise on non DV cases, but you can look at the visa bulletin which makes clear that the waiting period is very long – well over 10 years.
November 8, 2016 at 06:17
hi simon,please help me here..
i submitted my ds 260 in on june 29th,when can i probably expect my appointment sent/email sent to me.
thank you
November 8, 2016 at 14:47
What is your case number?
November 8, 2016 at 09:23
Hi! I’m one of the 2017DV winner. My question is; my picture that I won DV with is not clear at all, it wouldn’t be problem if I take new picture during the interview?
November 8, 2016 at 14:42
That photo might be a problem in the interview.
November 8, 2016 at 15:44
Do u simply mean; Doing the interview I should carry the same photo that I won???
November 8, 2016 at 22:56
No, you can take a new photo. My concern is whether the photo on the entry was so bad that they question your identity.
November 9, 2016 at 03:53
OK let’s put it in this way, If to say’s wrong photo appear on my entry doing the played; I’m suspecting that way, never can tell because we had a confusion during the entry, beside I’m not the one submitted it they played for me on the internet caffe and the comfirmation was given to me.
Please I’m confused here, your help and your truly advise
November 9, 2016 at 14:28
Do you mean the photo wasn’t even of you? In that case it can mean disqualification. It is up to the CO.
November 8, 2016 at 11:52
dear Simon, i want yr hand for the ff Q!

Hi Brit,
I have been asked by my sponsor not to open the envelope with all the doc of the affidavit of support and hand it directly to the embassy. He guarantees that everything is checked and verified, so I shouldn’t have any problem and I do believe so. But in the rare case of a minor mistake made or something missing, what does the embassy do? Do they deny you the visa or put you in AP, till you bring the correct document?
Thank you
November 8, 2016 at 14:37
In that case they would put you on AP until you produce the missing document.

Hi Brit
Thanks so much for the helpful information you have been publishing on this unique site. I’m very grateful for it. My wife and i was on AP since april 27 2016 till september 12 when our case was cleared and we received our visa on the 29 of september 2016. i am a father of a child by someone else who was born in august 2016. Is there anything that i can do in this situation about the child since he was not part of the entire DV process? Please advice.
November 8, 2016 at 22:57
There is nothing you can do about that child.

Dear Brit
I received my appointment on December interview. My worry is, all my documents completed with me except my (WAEC Certificate) which will be ok on January. Please your advise?
November 8, 2016 at 22:54
You will probably be placed on AP until you produce the WAEC.

Your DS260 had a question about your permission for USCIS to apply for the SSN for you. If you selected that iption that is all you need for the SSN. Otherwise, go the the SSA office.

hello sir
i have some question and i am very confused
i have interview in 6 December i dont know should attend my interview or not ,,
my wife is winner for dv 2017 and she is graduated in 2008 form 12 class, midwifery school NOT high school.. as i think its a vocational diploma and she is working in a hospital as a midwife from 2011 upto now.. it means she has 5 years of experience in midwifery and i also check the Onet jobs site the midwife SVP range was 7- 8
And also she studied midwifery for 2 more years from2014 up to 2015 and got another diploma
Question: can we still receive visa or we will get deny ??
November 8, 2016 at 22:48
She can qualify through work experience if she prepares evidence of her experience from 2011 to now.

That letter does not look very good, to be honest. I would be surprised if that is an “official” letter.
In addition to a GENUINE letter from the hospital you would need to show other evidence such as payroll information and any vocational training attended.

Hi Simon, i’ve been involved in some crime years ago, but my police record is clear and i haven’t mentioned about it in DS260. Is there any background check before or during the interview? Is there any risk to be disqualified?
November 8, 2016 at 22:45
Yes they perform background checks. You need to be honest.
November 9, 2016 at 04:31
do i need to say about that at interview ?
November 9, 2016 at 14:27
Again. You need to answer questions honestly.
November 8, 2016 at 20:13
Hi Simon, I e-mailled kcc to enquire about my case. I got this reply: “Your forms have been received and pending further embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing.”
Does it mean they have finished processing my case?
Af9xxx, submited late may and resubmited late june.
November 8, 2016 at 22:45
Yes. You will be scheduled for a January interview.
November 8, 2016 at 23:17
Thanks for your reply.
November 8, 2016 at 22:04
Hi Brit
A case number is 2017AF*****742 and submit DS260 on early October. When is the interview date and how long will they inform you before you go on the interview(time duration)
November 8, 2016 at 22:42
Your late submission of the DS260 will mean the interview will not be for several months – well in to next year. You get around 6/7 weeks notice.
