Hello Britsimon. Thanks for the vital information you bring here.
Please my wife is the winner of the 2024 DV lottery. She brought in a child she got out of wet lock. Myself I brought in my child while we were filing the entry form. We still maintained their information while filling in the DS 260. But we understand that it will cost us too much because we also have three kids out of our marriage. So we decided to indicate that these two first children will stay back and l migrate much later. Will this matter?
June 8, 2023 at 17:53
No, you can do that.
June 9, 2023 at 03:55
My wife and I are actually waiting too have a newborn baby by July who has certainly not featured in neither our entry or DS 260.
We have already submitted our DS260. Is it necessary to ask for unlock to add the child’s information and support documents or it’s not necessary.
June 9, 2023 at 12:20
You will need to unlock to add the baby to your DS260s, as well as create a new one for the child.

Thanks so much

I have friend of mine made mistake in country of chargeability he’s Algerian but living in France, and got selected, but his letter shows 2024EU*** rather 2024 AF***, he got confused whether to folow his case and file for DS 260 or abound his case. thank you
June 6, 2023 at 15:32
If he has no reason to charge to Europe (i.e. being married to a European), then his case number shows he made a mistake in choosing the country of eligibility in the original entry. Unfortunately that mistake is not correctable and he *will* be disqualified at interview. The best course of action is to not proceed at all.

Hi Simon,
First of all thank you so much for all your advises , posts, Youtube videos and comments on this website. I wouldn’t have made it without them and I cannot thank you enough! I got my visa last March in Naples and I am flying to the US in a couple of months to activate it. My questions are:
1) What are the mandatory first steps an immigrant shold take as soon as he/she gets to the US , in terms of burocracy?
2) My green card will arrive at the address provided in the DS-260 , but are there other needed documents that I should have?
3) Do you have a youtube video or post that you can refer me to where you explain these things?
4) I have also lived in the UK for a few years and I remember that I had to visit a Jobcentre and apply for a NINO to start working, is it the same in the US?
5) Can I open a bank account at any bank? In the UK I had to have a recommendation letter from my manager to open an HSBC account as a new immigrant. Wondering if I could have the same difficulties , after all we don’t have any credit immediately when we arrive.
Please let me know if there is a post I can look. I would appreciate any advise you can give me! Thanks
June 6, 2023 at 19:07
1. There are not any required steps. You are eligible to work straight away, although getting a job will soon require the SSN (similar to NINO). You answered a question in your DS260 about whether you wanted the government to apply for the SSN for you. If you selected that option, then the SSN should arrive in about 3 weeks, if not (or if past 3 weeks) then you go to the SSA office to apply for the SSN. You can read about that online.
2. No – just the SSN discussed in 1.
3. No – not much to explain.
4. See 1.
5. Banks are free to set their own policies, so some will easily open an account, others might be a little more difficult. Some will require the SSN, some won’t
Your main tasks will be getting a place to stay, finding work, and getting basics like a bank account, car, cell phone etc. It’s all pretty easy.

Thank you!
June 6, 2023 at 20:49
Hi, my case number is 2024AS27XXX. I’ve seen various posts indicating some very high case numbers, particulalry in Africa. Is that the case for Asia as well? What’s the highest range you’ve come across so far for Asia? Thanks, keep up the good work!
June 6, 2023 at 22:24
Yes the high case numbers are in all regions. We will know more in July or August.
June 6, 2023 at 23:02
Hi Simon. Thank you for all the support and guidance you have provided through your videos, resources, blogs, and Q&A section. I greatly appreciate it. I would like to gain a better understanding of when the right time is to initiate the AOS process. Should I wait until my CN becomes current? I have come across information suggesting that it’s advisable not to pay the DV Fee and AOS Fee if I am uncertain due to having a high CN, as the visas might end up being fully utilized. I have a few questions, and I would be grateful if you could help me out, as I have received conflicting information that I can begin the AOS process right away and I’m unsure about its authenticity.
1. Should I consider my CN, which is 2024AS42XXX, as a high CN?
2. Would it be best to pay the DV Fee alone for now and pay the AOS Fee later?
3. Or, should I pay both the DV Fee and AOS Fee after my CN is current?
4. Is the AOS process something I can handle myself, or do I need to engage an attorney to assist me?
Thank you in advance for your assistance. Your expertise will be invaluable in clearing up my confusion.
Sorry for the long read.
June 7, 2023 at 12:56
You can only file AOS once you see your number announced in the Visa Bulletin. There is an early filing policy which means you can take advantage of the “advanced warning” in the VB. The numbers that will be current in September for instanced are announced in the August VB which is published in July (around mid July). So early filing means being ready and filing as soon as that VB is published in July. When you file, you will want to include the receipt from the DV fee – so you pay that fee a little early, but not yet.
1. Yes
2. Wait until we know more about just how high your case number is. It could be a risky range.
3. See above, the DV fee is paid early.
4. Most people can handle their own cases, and there is advantage of doing so. Lawyers are NOT generally aware of the workings of DV. The best thing you can do is study the link below, especially the spreadsheet linked from the first post of that thread. Study first, then make friends with Sm1smom

Hello, I have a concern. My big brother was selected in DV2024 and his Case number is 17*** We had already completed the DS-260 but we have not yet submitted because we have a little issue about some information with the age on his Passport and the one that is on His high school diploma. On his Passport he has, I do not know by what magic put the year of birth 1998 while on his diploma the year of birth is 1991. In this case what should we do? Submit the DS-260 and redo a new passport with his true age of 1991 and this must be accompanied by a supplementary judgment because he had submitted his DV application with the year of birth 1998 and this is what is in the KCC system ! Please How can we proceed in this specific case? Thanks for your answers in advance.
June 7, 2023 at 13:00
Your brother created a risk by using the incorrect date on the entry.
The date of birth is established by the birth cert, then the passport which should match the birth cert. So obviously the passport is wrong and should be corrected. But that doesn’t explain why he chose to continue the lie on the DV entry. So, there is risk, but obviously continuing the lie is not a good plan. If he wants to proceed (knowing that a CO could decide to refuse him) then he must get his paperwork corrected.

Hi Brit,
Good day!
We had our visas issues and planning to travel US by august 2023. With you updates I understand tat 220$ for the card can be paid before or after we travel US. Whereas , Could you please assist on below
1. We have given the GC deliver address as New York ( my brother address),
but initially we planning land and have our stay in NC, Charollete. I am fine to collect the GC from my brother at NY, once delivered. So it is ok still I have his address even in POE and do they asks questions related to this?
2. I have a pending work to do is to pay 220$ for GC ? Apart from this, Is there any other preparation or pre requisite before I travel US related to document?
3. What about SSN and other related process to be taken care relevant to my Visa / my stay there in US?
Regards
Sharmi
June 7, 2023 at 13:09
1. No problem.
2. No
3. If you selected the option oon your DS260, then the SSN should be automatically sent to the NY address within 3 weeks. If that doesn’t work, you apply at the SSA office.
June 7, 2023 at 16:05
HI brit
Any idea on whether US embassy in LOME TOGO request for affidavit of support please? if yes..
1 . can you please list for me the list of US Embassies in African arround Ghana that do not request for it. please thanks
June 7, 2023 at 22:59
I dont know .
June 7, 2023 at 17:47
Hey BritSimon, how are you?
I am from Sri Lanka and my CN around 20xxx. (2022/2023 winner)
– I have No A/Ls (failed)
– BSC computer science (1st class honours) degree
– Working experience 6 years as a Software QA engineer in 3 companies.
My SVP range is 2-4 yrs prep zone is 4.
but i noticed now I have added No to `does this job require at least 2 years of training or experience` in 260
This could be an issue to get the VISA right? At least will there be a hope with my education BSC computer science?
Thank you very much.
June 8, 2023 at 09:41
SL embassy is pretty strict about A levels, and even though you went on to higher education, that must have been via some make up test.
So – you should go to the interview with a fully prepared work experience case also, in addition to the education. Hopefully they will just approve the education.
The 2 years question is unimportant.
June 7, 2023 at 23:15
Hi Brit!! Hope you are well and don’t mind me asking this question! I know it was a loooong time ago but I had won a 2021 DV lottery Visa from Sydney Australia and due to Cvd and Sydney Consulate closures I paid to be part of the Morrisen court case to hopefully progress after the cut off time. Was there any further update on your end for this? I am wondering if there is any slither of hope for this anymore.
June 8, 2023 at 09:42
We are still waiting for the outcome of the appeal.
June 8, 2023 at 09:09
Is next month going to be the last VB to be released? Cases still not current on all region except for some countries as of today. I understand the cut-off number, but what if the last VB still the same, can I still apply for AOS?
June 8, 2023 at 09:43
You cannot apply for AOS if your number is not current.
June 8, 2023 at 09:29
Hey Brit, I missed to include one of the addresses I lived in for a short amount of time. I could not remember it at the time I was filling the form. Should I unlock my DS260 to include that address?
June 8, 2023 at 09:44
If it was very short, then don’t unlock for that.
June 8, 2023 at 09:39
hi simon ,
we noticed so far that there is high case numbers this year , what is the highest number you heard of in AS region so far for 2024 .
June 8, 2023 at 09:44
Over 40000
June 8, 2023 at 10:01
Hi Simon,
in the addresses that I have to provide from the age of 16 on, must I also include those where I did my military service? even if I don’t remember all the dates?
June 8, 2023 at 10:04
Do the best you can.
June 8, 2023 at 11:58
Hi Brit, wrote to KCC asking them why I have not received the 2NL even though that my case (2023AF56400) is current. Their reply: ‘Review of documents prior to scheduling an appointment has been halted for the DV-2023 program year’.
My question is this , will they resume processing and issuing of 2NLS again or that’s the end?
June 8, 2023 at 12:26
You are misunderstanding their response. They are simply referring to stopping the document procedure. They will be scheduling some more interviews, and looking at the embassy data I would say you have a good chance of getting your 2NL soon.
June 8, 2023 at 13:14
Simon,
Thanks for all that you do. What kind of ranges have you been seeing on DV 2024 OC case numbers?
Adding 2024OC27xx as a data point.
June 8, 2023 at 17:53
I have seen a number of people with numbers approaching 5000, and one case at 68XX
June 8, 2023 at 13:50
Hello, I am from Algeria and my case number is 53 000. What are my chances for the last draw?
thank you
June 8, 2023 at 17:53
I don’t know.
June 8, 2023 at 14:33
Hello brit
I have selected a different country for my interview in the ds260 instead of my home country.
My question is
1. Do I need a police clearance from that country please?.. Thanks
June 8, 2023 at 17:54
If you live there, yes. If you do not live there, no. Please read the instructions.
June 8, 2023 at 16:21
hi Brit, my CN is 2023AF00034*. i submitted my DS260 in September but i have still not received my 2nl even though my CN has been active from the first VB. the status has always been “at NVC”. I sent an email to KCC about it and in their reply they stated that my case has been processed but yet to be scheduled. Don’t you think it has kept too long?
secondly can you please enlighten me on the meaning of AOS.
June 8, 2023 at 17:56
You don’t mention your embassy, which is a huge factor in whether you will get an interview or not.
AOS is adjustment of status for cases where people are already living in the USA.
June 9, 2023 at 12:54
Hi Brits thank you for your service and support have a question about my interview am in kenya Nairobi and I want to go for interview in July it’s possible to go Embassy to submit my application time of interview
June 9, 2023 at 18:52
I really don’t know what you are asking here, please be more clear. The embassy won’t let you schedule your own interview. It is scheduled by KCC, BUT Nairobi is restricting the number of interviews they take, so many people at that embassy will miss out.
June 8, 2023 at 20:36
Hello Sir,
I confuse, which- which name was include in initial entry. How to find out whose name was filled in the initial entry?
June 9, 2023 at 12:14
The selected letter (1NL) is addressed to the winner, but you cannot see the entry itself.
June 8, 2023 at 20:57
Hello Mr Simon i have a question for ds 260 for a part where you need to provide information about your accounts on social media,do you need to put all of your accounts for example i have twiiter and reddit but dont have any personal information like on instagram and facebook so my question is do you need to provide information for all of your social media platforms?
June 9, 2023 at 12:15
You list all social media accounts, yes.
June 8, 2023 at 21:57
Hello BritSimon,
Thank you for all the help that you have provided all these years.
I am in the US and doing AOS for me and my wife (our kid is US born, so not included for green card). To fill up I-134 form, I went through your recent video in YouTube. It is very helpful. I have a question, in part 2 question 13, there is a table to include all the individual name. You suggested to include all the name of the beneficiary and the family members. In this table, do I include my son’s name too? Since he is already a US citizen, I was wondering his name should not be included. OR I did not understand the question properly? Thank you!!
June 9, 2023 at 12:16
It’s probably best to include him. You have a financial impact regardless of his citizenship.
June 10, 2023 at 11:31
Thank you for the suggestion.
Another question/confusion I have on the same video. In Part 4, you suggested that beneficiary check the box and put the signature and date. But it looks like, the Part 4 should only be filled if the beneficiary is self supporting oneself, otherwise it should be left blank. Please correct me if I wrong. So, it looks like form I-134 will have only the signature of the guy who sponsors.
June 10, 2023 at 12:23
There is no harm in the extra signature – so why not sign. I did explain when it might make sense to use that section if the beneficiary has some continuing income after the move.
June 9, 2023 at 03:20
A person who has passed the interview but has missing documents and his case is under 221g, if the visa expires in the country he was in, can he collect the passport from the embassy?
June 9, 2023 at 12:19
Yes, but that could introduce some delay later when the passport needs to be returned for visa issuance.
June 9, 2023 at 07:22
Hi Brit, hope everything is fine. I just wanted to ask if DV winners are required to pay USCIS immigrant fee? if yes, please indicate how and when the fee is paid to the USCIS. or can I pay the fee once I am in the united states?
June 9, 2023 at 12:24
If processing abroad the fees are the $330 per person for the interview, then $220 per person just before, or just after entering the USA to activate the status.
June 9, 2023 at 08:02
Hello Sir,
My case number is in the 15 thousands. Understanding that the forms shall be submitted as soon as possible, exactly how long do I have to submit my DV2024 DS-260 forms? and does the speed of DS 260 really matter?
Thank you very much!!!
best,
Vlad
June 9, 2023 at 11:15
Hi Brit and thanks for having time to respond to us.
I have already submitted the DS260 for my four kids, my wife and myself. My wife is pregnant for the 5th and we are due by June end. For financial reasons i would love to stop the immigration process for my two elder kids and kind file for them when really setled if visa is issued. Their information remain in my application just that I don’t want to pay for the medicals, interview, flight and stuff. It’s pretty costly. Would this cause me legal harm or complications?
June 9, 2023 at 12:27
No, just a slower more expensive process later.
June 10, 2023 at 00:47
Thanks very much Brit.
So how do I go about to stop the process for the two kids when their DS260s are already in the system?
June 10, 2023 at 11:57
You just don’t take them to the interview.
June 10, 2023 at 12:19
Great. What will become of their DS260s
June 10, 2023 at 12:24
Nothing – they stay as they are. You cannot delete them.
June 9, 2023 at 12:25
Your delay (you are already delayed) in submission might cause some delay in scheduling later. Does that matter – well sometimes yes, sometimes no.
June 9, 2023 at 09:32
Hi Simon,
My husband is dv 2024 seletee, and 10 years ago I have applied F1 student visa and after the interview they told me my case is under administrative process and my bank statement was not the right document then when they called me for another interview I didn’t go. So now,
1. Shall I tell the truth about the previous case?
2. Will it affect our current case?
June 9, 2023 at 12:25
1. Of course. Truth is not optional.
2. Probably not.
June 9, 2023 at 10:00
Hello Brit
Do you think that stopping the bulletin for Asia might help those stuck in AP for months ?
June 9, 2023 at 12:26
Maybe.
June 9, 2023 at 15:11
Hello Brit, I sent an email to KCC and they replied:
Thank you for your inquiry.
Your case number is now current for interview processing. Once the interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check https://dvprogram.state.gov. If you need to make changes to your DS-260 you should contact the consular section where you will be interviewed, or bring the information about your changes to your interview appointment. Because your case is ready to be scheduled, KCC can no longer unlock your application.
Does this means that I will receive a 2NL soon?
June 9, 2023 at 18:52
That is “AV” stage. Whether you get an interview or not depends on which embassy you are at, and when you became AV.
June 10, 2023 at 01:33
Can you please tell me what is the meaning of AV?
I’m related to Beirut embassy (Lebanon)
My case number is 18XXX.
I have submitted my DS260 im August 2022 and than I have unlocked it in September to do some modifications.
Please tell me your vision about that.
Thanks in advance
June 10, 2023 at 12:00
AV is a status when your DS260 is fully processed, your number is current. There may be other people in the same status at your embassy, and if the embassy doesn’t make enough interview appointments available, then a backlog of people builds up at AV status. Your embassy is not scheduling many cases, and I cannot predict whether you will get a chance for an interview or not.
June 10, 2023 at 14:22
Thank you dear
June 10, 2023 at 14:25
One more question dear,
When the KCC sent me that my case is current and waiting for interview processing, does this mean that my DS260 is fully processed?
June 10, 2023 at 14:31
Yes
June 10, 2023 at 03:09
Hello! i hope youre having a good day, i have been inside the us since 2012 and i won the dv 2023 my number is AS211xx.. im very close but im not seeing movement in august. i have hopes for september… ive looked at the data to try to estimate if there will be more numbers coming out in september. Is there any change there will be? has the AS region met its quota? is there hope…?
June 10, 2023 at 12:12
I can’t predict that as a certainty.
June 10, 2023 at 07:44
Hi Simon,
Thanks for all the help and info. God bless.
As KCC does not require documents prior to interview, I am concerned I won’t have all the necessary documents and will find that out only during the interview and it will cause delays and stress. I went over the embassy’s doc list and have everything.
What other docs are good to have?
I lived only in 1 country, but several addresses – do I need to have proofs of the various addresses I lived at?
June 10, 2023 at 12:19
Read the instructions. Study them carefully. If you do that you will know all the required documents for your particular situation. There are some additional documents that you may need such as an I-134 or career history – but again, those are specific to each case.
No you will not need address history proof.
June 10, 2023 at 13:50
Hi Simon,
Looking for advice for a friend. Mom got married to US citizen and became citizen about 2 years ago. She applied for I-130 petition for alien relative for daughter (31) almost 2 years ago (July 21). Has she applied for the correct thing and do you think she will get it?
June 10, 2023 at 13:52
I only answer DV lottery questions.
June 10, 2023 at 16:11
hi brit
thanks so much for all that you are doing
1.Pease will like to know how is Lomé and Accra embassy performing on dv cases please .
2.Is a CN 2024AF104XX safe in Accra/Lomé
3. will there be any complications (Red flag) if you choose a nearest country for your interview because of the low performance of your country?
June 10, 2023 at 17:24
Hii Simon, what advice did you give to @kwenyewe DN who commented on your Live Chat saying he changed his case from a poor performing case to a better performing while his cn was current. And he even managed to get the Visa which is amazing.
Kindly tell us what you told him so that we can learn from this & try.
And also could you provide the link to @kwenyewe DN YouTube profile so that we can connect with him & ask him what he did to convince the Embassy. You can click on his YT comment and you get this link.
And btw @kwenyewe DN, if you have seen this message please reply & help this Family.
June 10, 2023 at 22:13
hi mr simon.
hope this msg finds you well
il be glad if you can answer this for me
has oceania region reached its dv 2023 quota?
thank you
June 12, 2023 at 08:58
Not yet. I’m expecting the redistribution of visas from Africa to the other regions, so that will make the quota seem a bit fluid.
June 12, 2023 at 13:43
very much appreciated for your time and responds.
god bless you always sir
June 11, 2023 at 02:14
Hi Brit,
On the DV entry there were a couple of options to pick as the highest level of education.
I have a Bachelor’s degree which is the highest form of education I can prove with a degree, and I picked Bachelor’s degree on the entry as well. I would like to have a couple of question about that.
1. As I said I have a Bachelor’s, however, I started my Master’s course as well, but I never finished it. Should I indicate this on the DS260 when I have to disclose schools?
2. Will it be an issue on the interview that I have picked Bachelors degree on the entry, but I think there was an option for “Attended some graduate level course”?
3. I also did my masters in parallel with my first job which was in a different city, can occupations overlap on the form? If so can I signal somehow on the entry that I was attending the Master’s course as a “correspondence course”(a course of study in which student and tutors communicate by post).
June 12, 2023 at 08:59
1. Yes
2. No
3. The truth is fine.
June 11, 2023 at 02:22
Hello Britsimon. I’m Rice from Burundi (East Africa). Thanks for the vital information you bring here.
Please my mother is the winner of the 2024 DV lottery. The guy who helped her he did a mistake about her date of birth. Now we can’t access her ds260 because of that error.
The guy didn’t remember the date of birth he completed. How can you help us please?
June 12, 2023 at 09:01
You must use the lost confirmation number link on the ESC page – it requires several pieces of data including the exact date of birth. Since you have the year but not the date – you might have to try 365 dates – but at least the ESC page does not lock.
June 11, 2023 at 02:30
Hello Brit!
It’s been awhile. I’m dv 2020. The long waiting has not been easy. Since I won I have been playing again and again and unsuccessful. It’s really a lottery. Can they just tell us our fate so that we can rest?
June 12, 2023 at 09:02
We are still waiting for the appeal. There is nothing that can be done to speed that up.
June 11, 2023 at 04:23
Hi there, now that the penultimate VB for DV2023 did not show progress in terms of cut off numbers, but many embassies still having AV queues that a very unlikely to be handled by September, I am very curious about your thoughts on chances of Cases getting re-arranged.
Do you think they will „sacrifice“ queued cases from let‘s say AF for the benefit of EU to get as close to the 55k visa target as they can?
June 12, 2023 at 09:05
AF region is underfilling because of the bad embassies. The lottery rules allow a redistribution of visas to happen in that case which would help the other regions. I expect that to happen, but I can’t be certain how much that would help.
June 11, 2023 at 04:41
Hi Simon
What is the cap for Oceania for DV 2023?
Is it necessary to meet the cap?

The cap is under 900, but no they don’t have to meet the cap and they can possibly exceed it with a redistribution of visas.

Hello,
not sure how to correctly answer this DS 260 question,
“is this child immigrating to the us at a later date to join you?”
My child is over 21. Preferably we would like him to join us. B

Hi Simon,
I have a middle name, which appears on my formal government documents, but on other documents, like the education ones, it does not. My national ID appears on all of those. Is it ok or do I need to bridge this gap somehow?
Thanks

That is normal.

Hello Brit, I’m case number 2023AF14*** and my visa centre is London because i won the lottery in UK. I submitted my DS260 end of April because I found out i won at that same period. I haven’t received my 2NL till now. Please what are my chances of getting 2NL looking at the number of cases being scheduled at the London embassy. Can i send KCC an email asking about update on my 2NL? Thank you

You have a chance, you can email KCC if you want.

Hi Simon, many thanks for your precious efforts
I am a 2024 dv winner from Algeria and I am currently studying in Austria. when filing out my DS260 I choose the Algiers embassy, and I have heard that Kcc will send, automatically, the file to the embassy of the place of residence and because I am not sure about staying in Austria until the end of September 2024, I have no idea what I should do.

Hard to answer without your case number.
June 11, 2023 at 12:18
Hello!!
As kcc sent to me ” Records indicate that you have submitted a complete and valid DS260 application” . Does it mean that my case has been under process or that they have finished processing my case and I may potentially wait for an interview date?
tnx……..
June 12, 2023 at 09:29
Your DS260 processing is complete.
June 11, 2023 at 12:43
Hello Brit,
If the case is current, the form is processed, but its waiting to be scheduled. Is it a sure deal that the embassy will schedule that person for the interview.
June 12, 2023 at 09:30
No. If the embassy has more people waiting for interview than it agrees to accept, then some people will lost their chance.
June 11, 2023 at 12:51
Hello Simon,
if i receive a notification from KCC that my case number is now current for interview processing and that should wait for interview date to be scheduled. Is that a sure deal that the interview must be scheduled by my post Embassy (ABD)? I should patiently wait?
June 12, 2023 at 09:32
ABD is one of the embassies that has caused a risk because they have not accepted enough interviews. All you can do is wait and hope.

Advice needed. The principal applicant’s husband lives in the US on Asylum docs and the lady has interviews scheduled for July, 2023 in Kenya. The husband docs expire the moment he lives the US, his in fear and doesn’t want to attend the interviews with her. She filled the DS 260 including him but filled his Ds260 and wanted the husband to be interviewed by USCIS. What can she do now. Will the Embassy listen to her and grant her the Visa?
June 12, 2023 at 09:40
No. If he does not attend the interview with her he will not get a visa through DV. Once she is living in the USA, she could sponsor him, but it will take years.
