The spreadsheet and “Mom” should be your AOS guide.
April 18, 2017 at 13:15

Hello, we attended interview on 11th January 2017 and the CO requested us to submit police certificates from the countries where we were studying before (less than one year). We came back to our country and requested for the documents. When we received them we immediately submitted them by TNT post as was required during the interview. I have tracked the documents and can see that Embassy in Tbilisi received them on 3rd April 2017. However, we have not received any notification sicne then. KCC advised to call the embassy. Do you think it is correct to do so? Thank you in advance.
April 18, 2017 at 13:41
Well it was pointless calling KCC. So – you can contact the embassy if you want.

Hi Brit,
Could you give me an advice?
I have submitted my application on February 10th and now I am waiting for the 2NL. I am a little worried because several years ago while I was traveling in the US I was arrested for a minor crime(shoplifting). I have described the arrest when completing the application.
Currently I am working in a big international company and I have the chance to apply for a job and have a job offer (from the same company) before the interview.
Would this be a good thing that will improve my case?
April 18, 2017 at 13:42
The new job won’t improve your case – but carry on living your life as normal!
April 18, 2017 at 15:17
But should I show at the interview that I already have a job offer in USA?
April 19, 2017 at 03:05
If you want to, yes.
April 18, 2017 at 10:23
Dear Brit,
I’m from Sierra Leone and won DV and attended the interview wit my wife on 4th April 2017. Our cases were approved and the CO informed us to pick up our packages on the 20th April 2017.
What getting us confused is that our status changed to Administrative Processing on the 5th April 2017 and it has been like that. We have not been contacted for anything.
Can you advise what going on or we need to go as scheduled and collect the VisaPackage.
Regards
Hindowa
April 18, 2017 at 13:44
You just have to wait. Sometimes this AP is very short – but since yours has lasted more than a few days I cannot predict how long it will last.
April 18, 2017 at 14:09
We will continue to wait and ensure to get to the embassy on the scheduled date to collect our Visa.
Thanks for your prompt response.
Regards
Patrick

Dear Brit,
The CEAC platform finally updated to issuedand pick-up is tomorrow

April 18, 2017 at 05:25
hey brit
my girlfriend won the DV lottery and we are planing to get married next month after her interview would that be a problem? or would be better to get married before her interview?
April 18, 2017 at 14:30
It would be MUCH MUCH easier if you marry before the interview is scheduled.
April 18, 2017 at 05:21
Hi again, do you think the immigration will know better on if I have any risk of being stuck in France on my way back to the USA ? Like I said I have my green card since 2013 and I have been going to school and work since.
April 19, 2017 at 02:54
I already answered – it is no problem.
April 18, 2017 at 05:16
Hi brit,1)is there any risk if i re-submit my ds260 in before 15 MAY koz i submitted for the first time my ds260 in 1st october, unlock and lock and unlock again. 2)what can be the last time to re-submit my ds260 without risk according to your experience for someone who submit for the first time his ds260 in early october, case number AF***88** .
April 19, 2017 at 02:53
You may find they schedule you for interview anyway. But – if not, do NOT leave it so late. early May at the latest.
April 18, 2017 at 03:09
Hi brit
My interview is next week but im really worried about a small mistake in my name, i made it in the first entry…it was just one lettre and i corrected it in the ds260 form.
Could this mistake effect my application?
Interview location: Algiers, Algeria
Thank you.
April 19, 2017 at 02:51
It should be no problem as you corrected it in the DS260.

Hello Simon, Currently I’ doing my Masters’ studies in china, and I’m about to graduate by 25th of this month. Last January on 2nd,I got f a DV immigration visa from the U.S. consulate in GuangZhou, China. I will be flying to Rwanda on May 1st, and then get married on the 15th of May. After getting married, I plan to fly to the U.S. from Rwanda on the 9th of June with my wife. But right now my fiancée doesn’t have a visa to enter the U.S. yet, So I would love to hear your suggestion on what course we could take to speedily get her a visa. My fiancée is currently residing in Rwanda. Much thanks in advance for your help.
April 19, 2017 at 02:50
You have left this too late to get a Green Card for your spouse through the DV process. So – you can apply for a visitors visa, but they may deny it as she is married to you. Once you are in the USA, you can sponsor her – but that will take 2 years.
April 17, 2017 at 23:21
Hi my case number is 2017AF00034XXX
DS-260 submitted February 25, 2017.
When can I expect the second notification letter?
When can I expect an interview?
I have read your general subjects on this but I still cannot figure out when I could. Please let me know your general expectations based on the data above.
April 18, 2017 at 14:35
2NL in a month or two , interview in July, maybe August.
April 17, 2017 at 22:14
Hello Simon
I’m DV winner and on CEAC the visa status is showing as ISSUED . My question is after I submitted my DS260 my passport changed and I’m currently with a travel document. However during my interview the CO didn’t ask anything about this and I didn’t had a chance to explain it . He checked all my documents and said my visa is approved. Now I’m stressed because I don’t know whether the CO updated my the DS260 to reflect the details of my travel document. Will it be a problem
Many thanks
April 17, 2017 at 23:07
Discuss it with the embassy.
April 17, 2017 at 20:05
Hi, my wife and i have passed the interview and have entry visas. But now we need to change the permanent address we provided in DS-260 form, because our friends moved. How can we change the address before arriving?
Thank you in advance.
April 17, 2017 at 20:33
You can change at the POE (arrival airport). That is you last chance to change the address for mailing the GC.
April 17, 2017 at 18:09
Hi dear Brit
I’m lottery winners. The date of interview me about four months ago and is still not updated. Please help me very worried.
April 17, 2017 at 18:14
It sounds like you mean you are on AP. Probably Iranian – correct?
AP times vary greatly – some cases (Iranians particularly) can see AP times lasting 5 or 6 months. There is nothing you can do except wait.
April 17, 2017 at 18:29
Hi dear Brit
Yes I’m Iranian
Yes sure . I should wait
Thank you so much for fast replay.
Best regards
April 17, 2017 at 15:38

it is one of my best times in my life , when i see i can live in a country which care to freedom, liberty and democracy and i should be a good person first for myself then for the society that i am gonna live there .
i am sure this is the attitude of most of my people.
April 17, 2017 at 11:03
Hi brit
My question is
1) Is there a problem if i pay
the USCIS fee which is $220
After i start live there? The Co tell me to pay it before I get there.
2) Do I get a problem at the port of entry,If i didn’t pay the fee?
3) do I have to have the X-ray?
Thank you
April 17, 2017 at 13:34
1. Before or after arrival is fine.
2. No
3. Carry it with you – but it is rarely (almost never) needed.
April 17, 2017 at 13:40
Hi Simon,
One more clarification this X-ray means the given CD right?
April 17, 2017 at 13:47
Yes
April 17, 2017 at 08:11

Hi Simon:
I am a british citizen planning to make an activation trip on 30th May. Do I need to apply for ESTA? Probably I don’t, as I won’t be travelling under Visa Waiver arrangements but will be under that 6 month visa that they stamp for initial visit.
Thanks,
Taps
April 16, 2017 at 18:42
No ESTA required.
April 16, 2017 at 18:34

Hello Simon,
As a new immigrant, I got my SSN and I am trying to find a job … I am Software Engineer.
Many recruiters calling or emailing me asking for my SSN last 4 digits and the day + month of my birthday to be able to submit candidate application (as they said), my questions:
– Is it safe to submit these informations at this early stage even before online or personal interview?
– Why do they ask for this information?
Best Regards
April 16, 2017 at 18:29
1. Yes
2. It is so they can prove the the client that they spoke to you., It would be better for you to deal with few trusted recruiters or better yet – target the companies you want to work with and apply direct.
April 17, 2017 at 16:32
Thanks for help.
Is there away to know/find/locate the trusted recruiters? Any advices since you are also ICT professional.
Thank you
April 17, 2017 at 16:39
I don’t have a magic method – but after doing this for 25 years I can sense when someone knows what they are doing, and when they don’t. Like I said – the best method is to study your target employers and apply direct.
April 17, 2017 at 16:47
I understand, Thank you … I always saying I would not be able to reach this stage without your help… waiting for the moment to help you in treehouse project.

Hello Mr. Simon,

April 16, 2017 at 17:25
You can add it.
To qualify by work experience you have to carefully show how your experience matches the level needed.

2. No.
3. THe envelope will be useless – the visa will have expired.

Update regarding Nepal and Asia
Is it an analysis after the release of visa bulletin of may 2017??
April 15, 2017 at 18:20
No
April 15, 2017 at 17:18
When was it posted simons?? I can’t see the date of post anywhere.
Update regarding Nepal and Asia
I wanted to update with my thoughts on what we are seeing from the CEAC data for Nepal. People keep asking me when the cutoff will fall on Nepal and that cutoff point is critical for Asia as a whole. Let me explain my thoughts.
Currently the CEAC data shows 500 KDU selectees per 1000 case numbers. Not all of the KDU interviews will be Nepalese, but let’s assume they are (almost all will be). So at that rate there would 4000 Nepalese selectees by 8000. Whilst the data shows that Nepal is probably limited in the draw to a high case number of 9100 or so, getting 4000 selectees out of the 4991 selectees is possible because some of the original 4991 will not have responded – so it would make sense that the cases between 8000 and 9100 could have around 500/550 selectees.
OK – so out of the 4000, how many will be approved. DV2014 shows about 10% of Nepal embassy cases are refused, stay on AP or stay at ready. The ready ones at the end of the year are people who give up after submitting their DS260 or sometimes you will see derivatives connected to refused and AP cases (the principal is refused, but the derivatives stay at “Ready” – even though they cannot benefit from the case).
So – if 10% don’t get approved, theoretically the 4000 selectees could be sufficient to hit the limit. That is therefore “possible” by AS8000. At AS7500 it is NOT possible. So – if your number is less than AS7500, please don’t even bother asking whether you are safe or not. Above 7500 there is some risk, the risk increasing as the number gets higher. The final cutoff would be somewhere between 7600 (lowest) to around 8600 (highest). It is not possible to be more precise than that at this time – but of course the longer things go, the more accurate our guesses will be. Up to now I have been thinking the Nepal cutoff would be 8600 to 8800 – but looking at the data I think it could be earlier – so probably in the early 8XXX range.
I am ignoring AOS since that is very small for Nepal. I also note that Nepalese cases are largely not delayed by the DS260 processing – I think that is due to the agents in Nepal doing an efficient job of submitted the forms early in the year.
Now – what does that mean for Asia as a whole. Well, it could re-raise the possibility of a cutoff in August, which means “rest of Asia” would make progress in August and September. As I have explained before, the highest number for rest of Asia still depends on Iranian AP cases. The data shows that Iranians are still highly likely to be put on AP. Most of the Iranian cases are interviewed at Ankara, Abu Dhabi and Yerevan (look for AS region cases at ANK, ABD, YRV in the spreadsheet). It appears as though the AP timing is roughly the same as it was last year. To illustrate that statement take a look at the graph below.
IranAPMarch4
The increase of the number of AP cases among the three embassies processing Iranian cases is more or less linear. That suggests AP is lasting at least 4+ months, otherwise we would see less AP cases in the lower case numbers which would have (mostly) been interviewed earlier on in the year).
So – based on that data it seems likely that AP cases will be as slow to resolve as they were last year. That is bad news for Iranians who get put on AP late in the year, but good news for selectees from the rest of Asia. This would mean Nepal would take around 3500 of the AS quota (8500) and Iran would take something around 2000 to 2500 – leaving 2500+ for the rest of Asia. That should ensure the final AS number will be well above CN10000. It seems unlikely we will see a number as high as last year, but cases in the 10000 to 12000 range have a pretty good chance.
Update regarding Nepal and Asia
April 15, 2017 at 18:20
The date is shown at the bottom of the post. March 4, 2015
April 15, 2017 at 18:29
Thank you Simon. I wish if I could get the similar analysis for fiscal year 2017. What do you think the cutoff will be for Nepal this year? Is case number As6415 selectee from Nepal safe or not? It would be a great help if u answer this with some details.
April 15, 2017 at 23:25
I no longer have access to the data as I did before. So I can’t answer with detail and don’t have a prediction for the cutoff.
April 15, 2017 at 16:01
Hello Brit,
Have a kind of problem.after getting yellow package i have checked all numbers and passport details all was ok, when i got back home observed they wrote wrong in name in the paper where they stuck on yellow package.they wrote my wife’ s grandpa name instead of father’s name.do i need to call consulate or when i will arrive in airport let them to change there with correct one?
April 15, 2017 at 16:47
Contact the embassy to make sure it is correct.
April 15, 2017 at 14:55
Hey Brit,
I will have my interview in Frankfurt, Germany the 17th of may.
I live in Spain as I am absolving an internship here, I arrived the 23 of January.
I don’t know if the will ask me for a Spanish police certificate, would you recommend me to get one? I’m not residing here for more than six months, not even in May, so they won’t ask me right?
I could get one, but every authority here closes at 2PM so it would be very difficult for me to get one, I would have to take a day off.
Greetings
April 15, 2017 at 15:44
It is not technically needed – but they could ask for it anyway.
April 15, 2017 at 13:36
Hi simon
My sponser is moving another state….so i have been fill my ds26o previous adress…is that problem?
April 15, 2017 at 13:42
At the interview or arrival airport you can update the address to make sure the GC gets sent to the correct address.
April 15, 2017 at 05:14
Hi Simon
Thanks for kindness and help me to know about DV lottery visa process.
We got a USA visa this week after 4.5 months AP .
We are so glad to see our printed visa on our passports,
You are so kind and friendly,
God bless you
April 15, 2017 at 13:18
Congratulations
April 16, 2017 at 08:37
Please Majid, which country were you interviewed and what was the reason for your AP.i have being stuck in AP for almost 5months
April 14, 2017 at 22:17
Simon , Are you aware of a visa being issued within a week of the medical expiring thus leaving little time for arrangements at work , ticketing etc. Or is it more likely that they will ask for a new medical ?
April 14, 2017 at 23:05
In cases of long AP where the medical is almost expired, the embassy can ask the selectee to obtain a new medical .
April 15, 2017 at 05:24
Thank you.
April 14, 2017 at 16:36
Hi dear brit
i had a interview on 14th march in Abu dhabi , after that on the 15th march i realized that embassy needs my CV/resume. and on the 19th i sent it.
i had two updates on Ceac website one of them was on 23th march and another one was on 26th and i think they are because of sending it.
on the 13th april i found out that i have another update with the same content of Administrative Processing just similar to before update.something i need to know is “is that correct the things is said about single/two lines situations on the source of AP content?” i realized on the latest update i became two-lines.
what is your opinion
April 14, 2017 at 16:41
I have read this several times. I still don’t understand what you are talking about. email your case number to britsimon3 at gmail so I can look at your CEAC page.
April 14, 2017 at 17:14
i sent it
April 14, 2017 at 17:45
That page shows nothing unusual. There is no second “situation”, and there is nothing about the page that says AP might be coming to an end for your case. The frequency or number of updates to the case status don’t “signal” anything. The only update you should take any notice of is the one that says “ISSUED”
April 14, 2017 at 17:58
Thanks for the replies
April 14, 2017 at 15:57
Hello brit am sam from ethiopia.i am a primary applicant Me & ma husband got our visas today. But my husband ‘s father’s name on the visa is not correct, because we made a spelling error , when we fill the ds form. And we didn’t mention the ceo on our interview. So
1,can the embassy fix this thing easily?? And
2can they correct it on the ds form too?? 3Can this be a problem when we get our green card?
April 14, 2017 at 16:03
Yes – contact the embassy.
April 14, 2017 at 16:30
Is yes the answer for all 3 questions?
April 14, 2017 at 16:35
No – it’s the answer for question 1. With that answer, questions 2 and 3 are irrelevant.
April 14, 2017 at 16:49
Thank you dear
April 14, 2017 at 14:34
hi mr brit, i need answer above please cause i’m worried
April 14, 2017 at 15:58
So you waited 22 minutes before “reminding” me to answer your comment. Wow. A lack of patience is certainly your problem.
April 14, 2017 at 14:33
Hello, im worried because i noticed that i made a mistake on my ds 260, i put 3 visits to the US when there were 4 visits. I don’t know why it happended i thought i put the 4 visits and checking my ds 260 a noticed i put 3 of them (maybe there were just 3 spaces to fill an i didnt realize that i had to add one more or something). my interview is on may 10. what should i do? will i lose my chance?
April 14, 2017 at 16:00
It’s not a problem. Relax.
April 14, 2017 at 14:12
Enter your comment here…hi, i’m from sierra leone and i won dv, i went for the interview on 23 february, the co took my passport and photocopies of my document and handed me a white paper which state that i should go and collect my immigrant package on 2 march, i went there and they say they will call me, my ceac status has been updated as follows 10 march, 4 april and 13 april with the status Ready at the top, when i emailed them, they responded that my case is still under administrative processing, when will i expect my ceac status to change to issue sir, pls respond
April 14, 2017 at 15:59
The embassy told you their answer. How could I know more about your case than the embassy? There is nothing to say except “be patient”.
April 14, 2017 at 12:49
Hi, pls should I still go ahead to pay for us visa by next week, my us invitation letter was sent to us embassy on 22nd march 2017, and I applied for passport immediately but the passport will be ready by next week and the event is for 12th may 2017. Is it OK to apply for visa 3 weeks to the event.
April 14, 2017 at 13:53
I have no idea what you are talking about.
April 14, 2017 at 13:54
It was released about 2 days ago.
April 14, 2017 at 07:12
sorry for my mistake in mentioning the year. It was in 2015 not 2014 that the number of visas issued by embassy got to its final point.
April 14, 2017 at 07:01
Hedi
Hello Simon.l’m one of the 2017’s winner of Iran. We are passing the period of administrative processing. Since all the asian cases have got current and in the most luckily circumstance we’ve got 5 months to be issued a visa, do you think there would be any visas left for us such as what happened in 2014.
It is necessary to add that no one from Iran has got cleared till now.

I don’t know what will happen…
April 14, 2017 at 14:11
have you got informed of the number of the visas issued up to now? I’ve read that the whole number is 50000 visas but I’d like to know how many of them have been issued for this year till now.
thank you in advance.

Hi, I have a green card since 2013. I’m originally from France. This summer I would like to go on vacation back in France for a month, but i’m a little affraid I won’t make it back in the USA with all the problems going on or maybe i’m just getting parano. Do you have any idea on if I will encounter any issue on my way back to the USA, at the immigration ?

Brit, thanks for your help. My sister in law won dv the time and she got married to her son father but they were denied.
This 2016/2017 she won again as single because where she found herself at the time she was playing the dv2016/2017.
MY question is,what is the guide for her in order to not Miss the rule. Please help us with your expert opinion.
April 14, 2017 at 01:58
You will need to be more clear. Was she legally married at the time of entry but applied as single? If she was divorced from the husband, did she actually enter as divorced? Did she list her son as a derivative on the eDV entry? Why was she denied the first time and when did that happen?
April 14, 2017 at 22:38
Brit, what actually happen she won as single but they were married December 14,2013. They submitted but was not schedule due to the high case number 2014af00068223 or the Ebola virus crisis in Liberia with out submitting with the children.
But this 2016/2017 she won again as single, what u think she need do to not bridge the rule.
April 14, 2017 at 23:01
You didn’t answer my questions, BUT from what you have said she was married when she entered the DV2017 lottery as single and for that will be disqualified. Additionally she probably did not list her child – and again that means certain disqualification. This person would be wasting her money and time to continue the process.
April 15, 2017 at 05:42
Yes, she was married when she enter as single for 2016/2017 dv program.
Even though her name did not reach to the embassy, is it still possible that the embassygat record her.
Anyway thanks for initial answer.

Hello Brit, I’m a dv beneficiary
1) what is a police and court record
2) is it to be presented by all beneficiaries?
April 13, 2017 at 19:09
The instructions explain this very well. Some beneficiaries need to provide police certs (it depends on their age and location). People with convictions need to show court records.

Hello Brit! Our interview is scheduled, but I don’t know if we will be able to make ready all the documents 2 weeks before the interview, because I have mentioned we have and Macedonian nationality but we are from Albania so in Albania we already have finished with the documents but in Macedonia we should change the identity cards and to get new one but they won’t be ready 2 weeks before the interview, so will be a problem if we take them at the day of the interview? All the best
April 13, 2017 at 13:19
I don’t know – contact the embassy.
April 13, 2017 at 09:16
Thanks Brits.
I had asked you a question regarding Sputum results and IOM advising re-scheduling of the interview in order to wait for the sputum results. You agreed IOM were wrong on this. I also told you we wrote to US Embassy and they were yet to respond. Well we just received their response thus :
‘Regarding medical issues, we defer to IOM on their recommended wait times. If they do not approve and release the medical report, we cannot process the visa. In this case, the derivatives cannot process the visa without the principal applicant. Please note that we do not schedule or re-schedule appointments from the embassy; we use a contracting service for appointments. See below on how to schedule or re-schedule an appointment:’.
Sincerely we do not want to re-schedule. We thank God we just received info that SPUTUM Smear (3 days one) is negative. We are praying the culture test turns negative too. What do you think about this email from Embassy? What do they mean by we cannot process? Does it mean if we attend the interview as scheduled without them receiving the sputum results, they will turn us away or they it means they will deny us visa because of NOT approved and released medical report?
Brits some of these questions are complex to first time successful applicants like us. We are happy you are here with that kind of experience.
Kindly advise.

If you are in a position to kindly also touch on the meaning of DEFER in ‘we defer to IOM ‘ and PROCESS in ‘we cannot process the visa’ especially in the context of their email. Thanks a lot
April 13, 2017 at 13:27
Defer means the embassy don’t tell IOM how long the wait times are for the results of tests. That is correct. They cannot “process” meaning cannot issue the visas without the medical. But – they can interview and put you on hold. You need to decide if that is really what you want.
Not having the medical does not mean the embassy cannot interview you. But if you interview and the medical results are a problem, then you would lose your interview fees. Every embassy can have the power to handle their cases how they want – BUT you are entitled to be interviewed. So – you could write back and say you want to be interviewed and be placed on 212(g) while you wait for the medical results. BUT you will be risking the fees, and the time to enter the USA after the visas are issued will be reducing (6 months from the medical date). So they may try to make a sensible choice for you. But really – that decision should be, and is, YOURS, not IOM.

Hi Brit
i have two questions here. can i change the address of my intended living in the US filled the DS 260 form at the interview, do i need affidavit of support if i have some real estate properties .
April 13, 2017 at 13:32
1. Yes
2. Possibly yes – the properties are not liquid assets and therefore are not very useful for the interview.
April 14, 2017 at 19:13
