hi
i have applied for lottery 2017 but i have lost my confirmation number and even by entering correct first name and last name and … all other datas still doesn’t verify and let me know my status!!!
i dont know it would help or not but i have confirmation number and digital signature of 2016
its very strange why it isn’t answering me
also i have to say im iranian and it would be my honor to became american citizen
and beside all goverments acts iall iranian love to have close relation with us
could it be because of my nationality and new goverment of us?
what should i do?
April 19, 2017 at 03:04
The ESC page has a link for lost confirmation numbers. Use that. If you cannot get that to work there is no other way to check.

Hello Brit,
My wife and I are going for our interview on the 2nd of May, 2017 but we are still confused as to whether we should use a single affidavit (I-134) or we should get one each.
I just read the affidavit instructions and it say ”Execution of Affidavit. If you are sponsoring more than one foreign national, you must submit a separate form I-134 for each foreign national.
You, as the sponsor, must sign your full name on the form”
So with this statement, we are really in doubt as we are yet to receive our form.
Thanks and God bless.
April 19, 2017 at 03:03
The sponsor is only sponsoring one person – the principal. The derivatives are included – but don’t need another form. So – one form.
April 18, 2017 at 17:19
also if by any chance i win the lottery does dv lottery.state.gov notify me or other winners by sending email?
April 19, 2017 at 03:02
No.

Hi Brit
I’ve booked for our family to travel to America in August to activate our Visas, I was wondering if we went to Canada for a weekend to visit family and returned to America before flying home would we then have to be back in 6 months instead of 12 as we would’ve left the country even though it was only for a weekend?
April 19, 2017 at 03:00
12 months is the legal LIMIT. Absences of less than 6 months are easier – but ANY absence (not just the first) can be up to 12 months – but there may be more questioning for absences over 6 months.

Hello Simon,
I’m from Nepal.
My CN is AS68**
I have few questions.
1.what do you think when gonna fall final cut off for this year?
2. Since all Asian countries are being current, except few. In your earlier reply you said that cases upto 6800-7000 is pretty comfortable so,is it the same or there is some risk?
3. Although 3 vb left we are scared that what if all visaes has been issued I.e 3500.
4. Does it matter to Nepal if all countries form aisa are current.
Thanks in advance.
April 19, 2017 at 02:57
1. I don’t know.
2. What I said befor still stands.
3. OK.
4. The risk for Nepal is the 3500 limit.

Hi Sir I’d like your advice please. I am the principal applicant and I worked as a personal assistant and office administrator for twelve years up to 2014. However I am coowner of our interior decorating business since 2004. I donot have my actual school Diplomas as it’s been over 30 years ago, but I can get certified letters to confirm I completed formal education from elementary to high school here in the Bahamas and graduated with a stage two diploma . Should I bring proof of both education and work and allow them to decide or do I have to say how I’m entering? If I have to chose what do you advise sir. I’m so nervous and confused. Please help, my interview is in a few weeks .
April 19, 2017 at 02:56
You prove education as a firsdt choice. It’s easier. But if you are concerned about that way of qualifying, then you can prepare to prove a work experience case IF you think your experience meets the requirement.

Dear Brit,
Thank you for your time & support!!!
I would like to ask you few questions regarding my DV-2017. During my initial application I wouldn’t include my wife and my kid, because my kid was sick & my wife was taking care of her in the hospital in critical care unit during DV application period. I was on study leave ( PHD study) in abroad. When I was asking my wife to send me her photo including my kid’s, she can’t be able to do so. Therefore, instead of missing the opportunity, I played the lottery alone by saying “single” & then it was unfortunate that I won the lottery alone. I also filled the DS-260 the same information like the initial one. Right now, I’m in a big trouble & struggle to convince the consular and what do u advice me in this regard? I wanna to take my wife & my kid to US…. Or is there any option to take them later after my PR approval?…..Pls looking for your promptly reply.
John.
April 19, 2017 at 13:13
The only sensible option you have is to stop the process now. You made a huge mistake with the first entry, and then you have committed a serious fraud with the submission of the DS260 with more lies. You can’t fix that, and if they catch you, you will be banned for life from the USA and could be charged with a crime.
April 19, 2017 at 13:26
My Dear Brit,
Thank you so much for your swift reply!!!
Shall I process as a “single”?…… I don’t wanna to miss this opportunity. Pls, provide me ur sensible advice in advance,
Regards,
April 19, 2017 at 13:33
That would be FRAUD. That is a CRIME. If you did that the consequences are big and you can NEVER bring your wife and child. NEVER.
April 19, 2017 at 13:42
Dear Brit,
Thank you so much for promptly reply. By the way, shall I explain the reason why I couldn’t be able to include my wife & my kid to CO?
Here are my concert reasons with full evidence;
1. I was on study leave & abroad(living/studying in foreign country)
2. My kid was seriously sick and admitted in referral hospital & my wife can’t send their photo during the application period.
Looking for your advice soon,
Regards,
Dere,
April 19, 2017 at 13:48
Oh my.
The reasons you left the derivatives off the eDV entry are irrelevant. You broke the RULES, and will be disqualified.
Then you LIED on an important application for immigration. This is very serious and you are still asking questions suggesting you are going for the interview.
You need to stop. THINK!
The opportunity was gone the moment you submitted the eDV.

Thanks brit i saw it,they put me on 02 MAY 2017,but i can’t on that date,
-1)what can i do to resheduld my interview, must i call the ambassy or email them which way can be fine and quick for them to have my message and answer me koz today is 19th just 12 days remain to reach 02 MAY 2017,
-2)is it gona work if i ask them to resheduld me?
-3)myself i didnt lock my ds260 koz i was waiting to confirm about one paper that i supposed to show to the interview,is the CO according the KCC dat will know that they sheduld me without to lock myself the ds260 ?
April 19, 2017 at 13:18
1. Try both ways!
2. You should ask them.
3. I suppose so – but it was submitted, so they don’t care if it was unlocked.
April 19, 2017 at 14:55
Hi m brit! 1)We need to speak to the Co the reason why we need to be resheduld or we don’t need to specify the raison like we do it when we ask for unlocking to KCC.
2)I supposed to go to interview with with my wife as my derivative, but she is in the hospital and i don’t think she will be discharge before the date of our interview,is it gona help to be resheduld if i say so to the Co ?or i need just to present myself alone.
3)Is there any form of writeing a letter of reshedul or is just a simple letter.
4)How long it took to be answer after the co reiceve a letter of someone who need to be reshuduld.
Thanks for your answer brits.

Hello Brit, good day. my interview is this early may, i went for medicals and was told to do TB test, which i did. My worries are the results will take two months before its comes out, so i will go for interview without the results. should i inform the embassy i will not have my medicals results before interview date, or should i just go ahead to the interview?
April 19, 2017 at 13:15
Personally I would do the interview anyway – BUT if it turns out that you need treatment, you might not be able to complete the treatment in time to get the approval. So – that is a risk of losing your fees. You could discuss with the embassy to see if they can reschedule you.
April 19, 2017 at 13:04
Hi, again! Do you know what is EU ID number is? I called the Embassy and autamatic reply told me to enter EU ID number to track my passport. When I received 221(g) sheet there was no number on it.
Thank you in advance.
April 19, 2017 at 13:22
I don’t know. Probably your case number – such as 2017EUXXX
April 19, 2017 at 13:50

April 19, 2017 at 13:55
No

1. You don’t need to explain.
2. You need to both be present at the interview.
3. Simple letter
4. I don’t know.
April 19, 2017 at 16:00

I have told you several times – I don’t advise on cases that are not DV lottery cases.
April 19, 2017 at 17:55
Peace be with you Dear Brit. Where did the sealed post give to the POE. Is that on the transit state in US or at regular residing state where we collect our GC. Thanks in advance for the info/ advice
April 19, 2017 at 17:58
The POE is the first arrival airport in the USA. Be sure to allow enough time (3 to 4 hours) for any connecting flight.
April 20, 2017 at 13:15
Thankyou Dear Mr Brits for your fast reply. As you commented me I have enogh time on my transit airpotr at Newyark. But my flight is from Addis Ababa Ethiopia to California Sanfransisco airport. So did I submit the sealed post at Newyourk airport where I transit or at Sanfransisco air port which will be my final destination. Thanks. Remain blessed

Made a major mess up that I need advise on.
Case No: 2017AFXX34XXX
DS260 submitted February. No response to date.
Issue: I am married, included my spouse in my application, but did NOT make a separate application for my spouse. Is this the reason for the delay? Would unlocking it solve this problem before September 30th? Please counsel as best as you can.
April 19, 2017 at 18:16
There is no delay yet. You waited many months to submit your DS260 which now has to be processed. That should not be a surprise!!!
Now – you need to email KCC, unlock your case and add your spouse.
FORGET DELAYS etc. that is not important. Doing the process right is what you should focus on!
April 19, 2017 at 18:22
Hey Brit,
maybe you remember me, I’ve contacted you quite a few times now. I am the guy who horribly messed up his eDV with a missing middle name and a wrong city of birth.(in the same country, Germany)
How could I explain it to the officer? I mean there is not really an explanation for a missing middle name. I was in Costa Rica at the time of the submission and very ill with a food poising , maybe thats why I messed up so horribly, I think I rushed through the application form way to fast. I don’t have any doctors certificates to prove my illness.
I was thinking it might be the best idea to tell the officer right away about the errors when the interview starts. When I reviewed my entry data (I applied through a very famous agency here in Germany, so I had the opportunity to look up what I’ve entered there, I immediately wrote to KCC and I’ve informed them about the two errors. So I guess they made a second check to make sure there is no second entry with my name/photo etc. because they wrote me that they will include this information in my case.
So how can I explain the missing middle name to the officer in a logical way?
Regarding to the wrong city of birth: in the eDV I mentioned the city whose authority issued my passport, the name of the city appears right to the birthplace city in the front page of my passport and I got a document proofing that I’ve lived in the city for quiet a time now. I hope the officer will accept this as an explanation for the error.
Would be great if you could give me some advise. Thanks a lot, I just can’t stop thinking about it.
Greetings
April 19, 2017 at 20:58
I have already told you that you are overthinking these things. You are. You should stop. Neither one of these things will be a problem during the interview. During the interview SHUT UP, and answer the questions asked. That’s all.
April 19, 2017 at 19:03
What is my chance as an iranian to win dv 2018?
April 19, 2017 at 21:00
About 1 in 200 people get selected – then about half of those get approved.
April 19, 2017 at 20:39
Hi,
Please what is the success rate for couple scheduled for dv lottery interview in Ghana?
April 19, 2017 at 20:59
It depends on your case. If you have followed instructions, been honest, and meet the requirements, there will be no problem.
April 19, 2017 at 21:07
Please, what are the critical requirements?
April 19, 2017 at 21:54
You should know this!
Country of chargeability
Education OR Work experience
No lies, no fake documents, no missed dependents.
April 20, 2017 at 01:18
Hi Simon,
I am planning to travel on my first entry visit on June. For the green card holders any benefits entitle for our medical claims? I check your insurance site for the green card holders but that is not covered since i am planning to stay in Maryland.
Do you know any other good insurance policy’s for the first time immigrants?
Many thanks for your help around us.
God bless you.
April 20, 2017 at 16:31
You need insurance. If the temporary cover policies are not available, sign up for ACA (Obamacare) at healthcare.gov.
April 20, 2017 at 03:13
Hello, I was wondering if there would be an impact if my in-laws were to renew their 10 year b1/b2 tourist visa if their daughter and her family are scheduled for an interview for the dv lottery as well. They were thinking of going when they are scheduled for the medical exam since it is about a 10 hour drive and thought they could do it then too, Do you suggest her parents wait until after the interview?
April 20, 2017 at 16:29
I don’t advise on cases other than DV.
April 20, 2017 at 04:57
Morning brit! 1)Is it necessary to bring to the interview the proof who attest you had accident reason why you did ask to be resheduld?
2)If you did a mistake on your ds260 and time to make it accurate the KCC send your file to the ambassy, during the interview, now during the interview you will need to speak it first to the Co before the co ask you a question about it or you will need to wait the co to ask you first about it and answer him.
April 20, 2017 at 16:28
1. Normally no – unless you are unusually untrustworthy.
2. Let the CO ask you questions. Other than that, shut up.
April 20, 2017 at 06:26
hey mate. you seem to be well versed, so i’ll ask… my case # is 2017xxx just under the 1200 mark for Australia. i applied april 2016. i completed the application end of september, but think in my rush to apply l totally missed the point by not sending it between 0ct 4 – Nov 7. I still received confirmation of my application. I also am now not certain i am waiting for the 2017 or 2018 cycle… after reading more. in your opinion, did i mess up and have i missed my chance at an interview? The status is “Current” for my region, which, if i understand correctly means that if i’ve done it all ok, i’ll still get an interview, i just have to wait for the email/notification of status. all said, i’m confused but think i shouldn’t be… also, i want to apply for the next lottery just i case, but don’t can’t see this mentioned on the legit site… this is not open yet? sorry if any of this is obvious. thanks!
April 20, 2017 at 16:27
Wow – you do sound confused.
First – you sent the DS260 at the right time. You should be scheduled for interview already – so check the ESC page in case you missed the 2NL email. If you haven’t got it – you will get an email in the next week or so.
The next lottery opens for entry in October. Don’t use any other site that is “open” now.
April 24, 2017 at 05:56
Thanks mate. i also emailed the KCCC email and they said that i just had to wait for an email telling me to check for the the ESC page. they said not until early May…
April 20, 2017 at 06:48
If your spouse is not immigrating to the U.S with you now but will join two years later, will you fill ds 260 Form For your spouse or you alone will the form and state it your spouse would join you later which one is appropriate I need your help sir.
April 20, 2017 at 09:07
Hello Britsimon
First of all, thanks so much for maintaining this website, it’s a wonderful resource for DV winners.
My interview is coming up and I am really worried as I used an old photo to enter the lottery. The photo was taken in 2013 when I applied for a different US visa so it was nearly 2 years old when I entered the lottery. They will see that as they can compare it to my visa, right? Will that cause problems? Will I be disqualified? Or will it be ok if I meet all the other requirements (and this time I bring brand new photos, taken right before the interview). I am just worry one stupid mistake will destroy my dream 🙁
April 20, 2017 at 16:25
Yes, not following the instructions can easily destroy your dream. In this case – it is up to the CO. If your appearance has changed significantly, they could deny the case – although that is rare.
April 20, 2017 at 11:37
Hi brits hope you are doing well! My question is -the financial problem can be also the cause of asking to be reshedule ? Koz i play as a single and before the result i married,on ds260 i declare my wife, now the charge is for 2 people i mean me and my wife, after that the baby came, you see now we are 3,i can’t afford all this charge for the date they give me for interview who’s’soon on early may, according to your experience that can be the accept by Co if i need to be reshedule ? Financial problem of this kind can allow Co to reshedule me ? Please answer me.
April 20, 2017 at 14:58
They don’t need a REASON to reschedule.
April 20, 2017 at 12:49
I safely arrived in USA on Tuesday. I now have two questions pliz. Do I wait for the Social Security number to be sent automatically or I have to go to their office? I was also told to wait for 6 months before we get our green card…Is that normal?
April 20, 2017 at 14:57
If you selected the option for USCIS to apply for the SSN it will arrive automatically.
GCs can take months to arrive.
April 20, 2017 at 13:51

Dear Simon
Greetings..
I am a dv2017 winner, in my preparation for the application requirement, I have come across the document of ” Minimum Income Requirements for Use in Completing Form I-134″ in which sponsor’s guideline is stated; Now as I’m going to be sponsored by my cousin, I just want to know what do they mean by ” Sponsor’s household Size”, does that mean:
– Sponsor’s family members, or
– Sponsor’s family members + my family member.
On the other hand, will it be enough, if my sponsor shows an amount of (USD 41,705) and his family members are (5), while we are 4 members.
Appreciate your help.

April 20, 2017 at 15:43
Hello Brit my case no is AF36XXX and I have submitted the DS-260 on July 2016 and I am still waiting for my 2NL. So do I have to wait patiently or contact the KCC regarding the delay. I want your advice. Thank you.
April 20, 2017 at 16:20
What country are you from?
April 20, 2017 at 16:03
Hi Brit, if your wife is not immigrating to the U.S with you now but rather will join two years later will you fill ds 260 form for her as derivative or you will it alone and state she will join later. Thanks for your help

You only complete the DS260 for yourself and sponsor her once you are living in the USA
That process takes about two years.

Hi Brit Simon, We have just obtained our visa’s for entry to United States as DV lottery winners. My husband is the main applicant and his passport (New Zealand) with the visa in it expires on the 22nd January 2017. As we need to be in the US for business from the 14rd – 30th July we planned to use this time as our point of entry to activate the visa. The problem is, from the 22nd July his passport will no longer have 6 months left on it. Do you suggest we renew his New Zealand passport with the visa in it and take both passports with us when we enter the United States? Or, should we travel to the US for our first point of entry when there will still be 6 months left on the passport and then get the passport renewed for our second trip in July and take both passports with us then? We plan to move permanently to the US in November. Thank you!

This.
April 20, 2017 at 17:16
So the visa is still valid in the old passport as long as we take both passports with us? Thank you and sorry to reiterate the question this whole thing is SO stressful!

The visa in an expired passport is still valid.

Hi Brit, I am a dv selectee of 2017 with case no 2017af00005***. I have a big worry, I have been schedule for an interview in may. My worry is that I enter the edv with my siblings as my children since they had being my responsibility when i got married and they are living with me but later I realise that the needed but biological children or step children. I did not submit their ds-260. But submitted for my spouse and son since them were in the original entry
1 My question is would l be disqualified for putting them as my children
2 I do not have an affidavits of support would it cost any problem or must I have it.
Please I will be happy if I get your honest opinion.
April 20, 2017 at 23:27
1. No. Just be 100% HONEST about the mistake when asked.
2. That depends on the embassy and specifics of the case. An I-134 is always a wise idea.

Hi Brit!
I have a quick random question: as my wife and I are awaiting our interview in May, the Ceac status shows both applications to be ‘Ready’ and my application 2017EUXXXXXXXX 02 (I’m the derivative) to have been updated today while my wife’s has last been updated a week ago. Could this mean anything?
Apologizing for the speculative and curious nature of my question,
April 20, 2017 at 23:25
Whatever it “means” isn’t something we can tell – so it really doesn’t matter.

April 21, 2017 at 05:33
Brit many thanks for the enormous work you are doing for the world.I read someones comment recently on eDV entry picture taken as far as 2013.
So with all the DV rules on the photograph specifications, you can still enter the lottery with an old picture and the system will not reject it.If so then the system is not strict one bit.
April 21, 2017 at 05:46
OBVIOUSLY, the photo might be technically acceptable. That does not mean the rules won’t be enforced.

Hi Simon, I have a question, that is specific, and I don’t think it’s been asked before, apologies if it has. I activated my permanent resident visa on 18 April 2017 with my husband at LAX. I remember reading that there would be another fee for the green card to be sent out, and that this could be paid online beforehand, or at the time of activation. I was so nervous about the green card activation, and so relieved when he handed us back the folder with the slip saying we can expect the green cards in the mail in around 6 months that I forgot to ask about the last lot of fees, and he didn’t ask us to pay anything. What should I do? Is there someone I should contact or will they get in contact with me before sending out the green cards after realising that that amount is still owing? Thanks, Nicole

The GCs will not be sent until the fee is paid.
