Hi Simon,
My husband is a 2018 dvlottery winner. However, our passports are expired. Our two year old son is yet to get his passport. We want to complete the D260 form. The case number is AF 9xxx.Must we get our passports renewed and our son’s ready before completing the form, or we can go ahead to do so without the numbers?Regards.
May 7, 2017 at 05:35
You can use one of your passport numbers for now – then unlock and change it later.

Dear Simon,
I am in DV2018. I am the principal applicant and my application has my husband and kids as derivatives. Though our number is high (AS9xxx), just in case we are lucky enough to get a chance for interview, if we tell the embassy at the interview that my husband would like to stay in home country first to take care of his own parents at old age, and would not want a green card now, would my whole application become disqualified and unsuccessful? Can myself and kids still have the green cards? Will the embassy think it’s a mismatch of information against the application? Thanks!
May 7, 2017 at 01:52
That’s not a problem.
May 7, 2017 at 02:22
Big thanks for advice! That’s really really important as it’s been bothering us.
May 7, 2017 at 00:31
Hi All, this i a great support website. I have been selected this year on the 2018 results. However, i am from South America and my CN seems high 2018SA0000193x. I am not sure if i do have a real chance to even get an interview next year. I have all the paperwork ready because i live already in the US as an F1 student and most documents are the same. I am so nervous and anxious that i don’t even know if it’s worth even trying.
May 7, 2017 at 01:49
You have a long wait. I suguest you just carry on with your life for a few monthe until we know more. Your number won’t be current until at least a year from now.
May 7, 2017 at 03:13
Thanks for your answer!! But do you think there is hope for SA becoming current next year?? That is my only hope from what i have read online. Thanks again!
May 7, 2017 at 04:05
It is too early to know.

Hi Simon….. I have a high OC region number (2018OC0000169*) ….. based on history do you foresee I would make it to an interview? If it is possible, how many months could I delay submitting the DS-260 (I would like get a new E3 1st (eligible in Feb 2018) in case DV lottery interview doesn’t eventuate …..Thanks so much.
May 7, 2017 at 02:09
You can wait unail almost 1 year from now. As for predictions, it’s too soon to know.
May 7, 2017 at 14:45
Thanks so much Simon – appreciate it
May 7, 2017 at 02:42
Hi Mr. Brit
Actually I got your email from the Internet, sorry for that.I am wondering if you can help me by answering a couple of questions.
I have been selected for the 2018 dv lottery. Actually one of my friends had done the application for me as am working in remote location and had no access to Internet at that time. I have a master degree so did my wife ,but he is not sure whether he put our education level on the online application form as master degree or university degree. Am going to fill the sd 260 form if I but my education level as university or masters degree it might be not the same as the information he intered in my application. The other thing he can’t remember the email address that he interd in my online application form. In the sd 260 if I intered a new email will it affect my visa or interview .
May 7, 2017 at 03:06
It won’t cause a problem.
May 7, 2017 at 02:43
I’ve select DV2018 but I cannot access my case number to DS260. I sent email to KCCDV and the officer replied me to leave out zeroes in middle code. I’ve been trying since May 3 but unfortunately, it shows me the same result. I don’t want to loose my chance.
“The case information you entered does not match our records. Please try again or contact the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) by email ([email protected]) or by phone (Public Inquiry Phone Number 606-526-7500 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT Monday – Friday) for further assistance.”
May 7, 2017 at 03:05
The problem you are having might be wrong details being entered. Perhaps you had the wrong info in you DV entry. Birthday is the most common cause.
May 7, 2017 at 03:49
I just tried again and I found a big mistake.
I filled my birthday and month wrong. What I wrongly filled is 10/March/199X but I should have filled 03/October/199X. I can access my case number to DS260 with a wrong birthday. What should I do?
Thank you
May 7, 2017 at 04:03
That is a common mistake because the USA writes month/day/year and most other countries write Day/month/year. Just make sure it is accurate in the DS260.
May 7, 2017 at 10:06
Thank you, sir. I will carefully fill out my information.
May 7, 2017 at 17:55
THIS (what the KCC said) seems to be what we experienced too. So, good, it’s an official response to leave out those 0’s.
May 7, 2017 at 03:14
Dear Simon,
I am a DV 2017 winner (case # WAC2017643***) they schedule my interview May 29,2017. Last week they send me a new email that my interview was cancelled i must do the medical when I arrive in U.S not in my country. And I must pay the medical fee in advance to reschedule my interview. It is true that they change the rules for medical?
Thanks.
May 7, 2017 at 04:05
This sounds suspicious. The case number is not a DV lottery case number and a DV case cannot be approved without the medical.
May 7, 2017 at 04:20
I am receiving emails from them…..

May 7, 2017 at 04:28
Yes. That email address is clearly a scammer. Don’t sent them a penny.
May 7, 2017 at 04:38
OMG I already send them 420$ for affidavit of support payment. They schedule my interview appointment May 29,2017 and then they cancelled. They said i must pay 930$ advance for medical. And they send me new form I-693 to be filled up.
May 7, 2017 at 05:33
Oh that’s awful. I’m sorry they did that to you.
April 6, 2018 at 23:41
I received the same email from mail but didn’t pay money.

Hi Theresa,
I got the same email, may I know what did you do regarding your application?
May 7, 2017 at 04:34

May 7, 2017 at 05:33
I don’t know.

I have already submitted my Ds 260 and I used the address in my home town.
Do you think is a problem?

May 7, 2017 at 14:38
No problem.
May 8, 2017 at 04:55

I read “green-card-donald-trump-travel-ban” article in CNN, I saw some countries including Somalia, so can it effect me because of I am in Somalia at this time? If it yes what is Trump Travel ban is?
The second question during filling DS-260 if child that I was wrote my entry form was died before result out is it compulsory to mention him on DS-260? Can I select No children?
May 7, 2017 at 14:34
There is no travel ban.
No need to list the child, but you might be asked about the child, so take the death certificate to the interview.
May 7, 2017 at 10:07

Hi Simon,
I lost my passport, 10 days before the interview, so I cannot unlock my ds-260 anymore.
How can I proceed in this case?
Thanks in advance for your courtesy
May 7, 2017 at 14:32
Arrive at the interview with the new passport.
May 7, 2017 at 17:12
Thanks Simon! Have a great Sunday
May 7, 2017 at 10:51
Hello,
I’ve already submitted my DS 260, and I have a question about if you think adding professional education courses certificates from reputed universities and skills certificates such Project Management Professional certificate could support my position.
I’ve already added my high school and university degree, which I think they will be enough to qualify me, but I was wondering if adding those could have been better.
What do you think? Does it worth to ask KCC to open the application to add those, or I could just bring them to the interview.
May 7, 2017 at 14:31
They will not improve your case – but take them to the interview if you want.
May 7, 2017 at 10:54
Hi Simon
My family was selected as a dv lottery winner and we should be filling the DS206 form. However three of us dont have passports. how long can we delay filling the form until we get the passports? Thanks!

May 7, 2017 at 18:33
where are you from johny ? egypt ?
May 7, 2017 at 13:37
Hello.
I won green card lottery 2018.(actually we, family). I have 2 questions. first one is when I get the interview date after submitting ds260. Second one is my son turns 21 on October 2018…. So does he disqualify for the dv?? If not what should I want to do?
May 7, 2017 at 14:09
Your case number is important for both those answers, and you might need to act fast – so tell me your case number. Also what day in OCtober does your son turn 21?
May 8, 2017 at 06:34
2018AS00012*** and my son turns 21 on 19th/10/2018
May 8, 2017 at 06:39
Sorry 19th/10/207
May 8, 2017 at 17:15
Your child will not get the DV lottery Green Card
May 7, 2017 at 14:09
Hi Simon,
I’m a DV2017 lottery winner, I recently received my 2NL and have been notified of interview appointment at the beginning of June. When booking my medical exam or checking the CEAC website, I’m asked to enter my immigrant visa case number (NVC case number), starting with the three letters of the embassy that will process the immigrant visa (ex. LND) plus 10 numbers. Where can I find it? My 2NL only contains case number like 2017EUXXXXX.
Thanks,
Sofia
May 7, 2017 at 14:27
You don’t have such a number – you use the DV case number.
May 7, 2017 at 15:57
You mean the one I received when I applied for the DV? That doesn’t work when checking on the CEAC website.
May 7, 2017 at 17:43
You have to be more clear about what you are doing and what doesn’t work. I can’t read your mind.
May 7, 2017 at 18:18
When checking the CEAC website, https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx, what is the immigrant visa number that I should enter? I’m trying both my case number (2017EUXXXXX) and the confirmation number I got when firstly applied for the DV, but none of them work.
May 7, 2017 at 18:25
Enter the 2017EUXXXXX number without the leading zeros. So – 2017EU00001234 is entered as 2017EU1234
May 7, 2017 at 14:50
Hi Simon – my country of birth is NZ (and I applied as NZ for Nationality) but my citizenship and passport is Australian. So I can prepare now of I need to, would I need a current NZ passport to proceed – seeing as it is the country I applied under, or will my Aussie passport be ok? Thanks so much
May 7, 2017 at 14:56
Hi Simon.
First of all, appreciate the hard work you put into this website, it’s a fantastic resource!
I have just found out I have been selected for the next stage of DV2018.
I have a very low OC case number, 2018OC0000023x.
However, I’m currently travelling and won’t be back into Australia until August/September time…
Am I safe to leave completing the DS-260 form until later this year? I don’t want to be called for an interview and have to cancel non-refundable travel arrangements…
Thanks Simon.
Stephen
May 7, 2017 at 15:07
The earliest interviews (for low case numbers where the DS260 was submitted very early) will happen in October. If you delay your DS260 a couple of weeks that will push the earliest chance to November in your case. There is no risk in that delay – processing of cases will continue until September 2018.
May 7, 2017 at 15:33
Hi Simon ,
is this case number high number or safe. 2018AF00036XXX
May 7, 2017 at 15:42
It’s fine.
May 7, 2017 at 21:01
What about 2018AF9***
May 7, 2017 at 21:37
Safe
May 7, 2017 at 15:49
Hi Simon,
Thanks.
Regarding executive order, can Somalia citizens allowed to get visa.
May 7, 2017 at 17:44
Yes.
May 7, 2017 at 16:02
Hi Britsimon, I will like to share this information about my wife who is little bit confuse about her interview on Monday, may 8, 2017. During her first entry, she mistakenly enter a wrong year of birth. Instead of 1994, she type in 1993 and fortunately she won. Before filling in the DS-260 form, she wrote Kentucky mentioning the problem and she was giving a direction to fill the DS-260 and putting in the right year of birth. Can you please let her know her faith toward that because she is still uncertain. Mr. Hassan
May 7, 2017 at 17:42
That would normally not cause disqualification since she has corrected it in the DS260
May 7, 2017 at 16:15
Hi simon,
I have been randomly selected for dv 2018 programme. I just have few doubts regarding my dv application photograph.
My dv application photograph is not clear enough to see both ears as I’ve long loose hair in the photograph and I’m a guy. Does it affect further processing of my application even if I’ve been ramdomly selected ??
Also, It is even much longer now, and I’m really confused if i should make it shorter or take.a.photograph as it is.for ds 206 form.
Finally, do guys with long hair have.trouble getting visa?? Or it’s normal having long hair for men during visa interview ???
P.S I have medium length hair at passport photo.
May 7, 2017 at 17:41
Relax about your hair! It’s not a problem!!!
May 7, 2017 at 16:58
Hi Simon
with my CN 2018EU00034*** I will wait one year for the interview or less ????
May 7, 2017 at 17:36
About 1 year or more.
May 7, 2017 at 17:51
OMG there is no chance for sooner ….. I cannot do anything hahaahah
May 7, 2017 at 17:52
Patience.
May 7, 2017 at 17:20
Hi Simon,
It is really a very resourceful site and we really appreciate your hard efforts to make people dream come true…
I have a question, my friend from Nepal is in the US now (F1 status) and he won DV2018 with CN AS91*. Due to some family issues he will be out of the US sometimes in Oct to Dec 2017, University has already accepted his request for this. So, he wants to process his AOS in late January or early Feb 2018.
1. Is he safe if he starts his process in first week of Feb 2018?
2. If he submits his DS 260 & I-485 in first week of Feb 2018 and everything goes in time, when he may get his interview date?
Thanks once again for your great supports!!!
May 7, 2017 at 17:35
1. Yes – although he must not apply too soon after returning (read about 30/60/90 rule)
2. AOS is different to CP – so it depends on his FO – and is not predictable.
May 7, 2017 at 17:33
Hi Simon,
Just wondering if you’ve got any questions from others, or insight, regarding the online form submission error with the CASE NUMBER that DV-2018 selectees had been experiencing?
We logged in successfully (to fill out our forms) with out case number in the first place. Then, after filling in all the sections, we went to submit the form and the (valid, correctly entered) case number threw an error – something about not matching the case number used to log in. It absolutely 100% did match, though.
Ultimately, with a bit of help from Google, we tried submitting the forms with our originally given case number 2018EU000***** put in WITHOUT the 3 zero’s in the middle. So, just submitted as 2018EU***** and that went through, giving us our confirmation. So that apparently met the “matching” criteria even though it distinctly dis not match. LOL
Anyway… Just wondering if this issue hit your radar, and also hoping for a bit of insight whether or not our pushing the forms through with the omitted 0’s will not likely come back to bite us later. 🙂
Thanks!
– J
May 7, 2017 at 17:36
Duh, that was supposed to read we logged in with OUR case number in the first place… not with OUT… which would be quite a different message. 🙂
May 7, 2017 at 17:55
Of course it has “hit my radar”. I have an explanation of the fix in my FAQ (that you need to read!).
May 7, 2017 at 18:23
OMG, wow! That’s SUCH a great page! Don’t think you’ll need to hear from me anymore – every question I could have asked and more are answered there. Do other people know about this?!?! LOL
Seriously, sorry for bugging ya… I’m just a bit excited for our (hopeful) new life in the sun. 🙂
– J
May 7, 2017 at 18:24
LOL – yes I WISH more people would read that first. OK – you have lots of time to study all you could ever need to know about the process….
May 7, 2017 at 17:49

Hi Simon,
I have been randomly selected for DV2018.
My case number is 19***. I would like to ask if this case number is low or medium or high? Can you please advise whether I should apply for a new passport because my current passport is valid util 2018 Nov.
I have checked the bulletin and last years 19000ish numbers had an interview in March. On dvlotteryhelp.com I read that the passport must be valid a minimum of 6 months. Do you think I should go and get a new one?
Should I register for the ds260 form with the new or old passport?
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Dóra
May 8, 2017 at 00:20
Number is OK – but always quote the region.
Submit your DS260 and change the passport later if you like.

Hi
I’m a DV2018 winner . When I registered for the DV I have written birthday of m spouse as written in the passport , which I discovered both wrong when I saw the birthday certificate (about 3 months difference) , because it is written in the birthday certificate in Arabic calendar , so it was converted to Gregorian calendar wrongly and written wrong in the passport.
So what to do now ? Filling the 260 DS with the right birthday and issue new passport for her with the correct birthday? OR fill the 260 DS with the wrong birthday and explain to the counselor the issue in the review day.?
Thanks
May 7, 2017 at 21:47
Correct it in the ds260
May 7, 2017 at 21:56
And make new passport with the correct birthday? And will this mistake cause denial of visa?
May 8, 2017 at 00:13
Obviously if the passport is wrong, you need to correct it!
May 7, 2017 at 20:38
Dear Sir,
I’m totally confused and I urgently need your advice.
I’m DV2017 winner, I was single when i applied for the lottery and I was single when I applied for DS260 form.
I got engaged on March 2017 and then received a notification of my interview scheduled on 11 June 2017.
i am planning to get married on 15 July 2017, and i need to add her to my form so she can join me to stay in USA. in the meantime i need to be on my own the first year in USA without my wife so i can arrange the home and the proper job to support my family. then she can come to USA to join me.
now i need your advice regarding the two points:
– adding her to my form taking into consideration that my interview is after one month and we’ll get married on 15 July 2017.
– the possibility to start the first year without my wife to make sure that everything is afforded properly.
appreciate your assistance

You can’t add her to your case because you should have married earlier. So now you will go to the USA and file papers to bring her later. It will take 2 years.
May 7, 2017 at 22:03
but 2 years is too much, do you think i could explain the case to the consular at the interview and ask him if there’s anything i can do.
or you do you think if i do so this would lead to visa rejection for myself!!
thank you

Well you could have made it shorter but you made a bad plan, so that is what will happen.

Hi Simon, I have had my visa approved, which is very exciting. I have to be in Europe in mid-June, and am travelling from the Pacific. I thought I would use the opportunity to travel via the United States for a couple of days, visit a social security office and get my social security number application all in track. I would then spend about a month in Europe and return to the US, hopefully with my social security card waiting for me. Can you foresee any problems with that plan? Will I have any problems re-entering the country?

No problems.

Hi,
I am 2018 selectee, EU00022***.I suppose my interview wont happen before March/April.
The thing is I have a girlfriend, and we want to marry of course. Is it better to send DS260 as single, and then ask to unlock it, or to marry first, lets say July, and send it then. Is July maybe late to do so? As well, I heard that in some cases they refuse to unlock the form, which is contrary to what i read here…
May 7, 2017 at 21:36
They will always unlock unless the interview is scheduled. You can do it either way.

Hi Brit Simon,
I am a DV winner of 2018 and I am a citizen of Nepal living in Norway. My case number is AS57xx. How safe I am as there is cut off for Nepal each year. I chose to give the interview in Stockholm for the info.
Regards,
Gita

Hi,
My case number for DV 2018 is 2018EU000055xx. Is it good? I submitted DS-260 form 2 days ago. Approximately when will I get the 2NL?
Thank you

August or SEptember 2NL for October/November interview.

Hello Simon,
My interview is scheduled for May 19, but about a month ago, on Apr 11, my wife applied for a NIV (B1), and her case is now stuck in Administrative Processing. She claims that they did not give her a 221g refusal sheet, but I think it should be considered as one.
1. Do you think it may affect us on the DV interview?
2. Does it make sense to contact the embassy to try and amend my wife’s DS-260 and specify that she was refused a US visa?
Regards,
Sergey
May 8, 2017 at 00:08
1. Possibly – I don’t know the circumstances.
2. She hasn’t been refused.
May 8, 2017 at 10:25
But AP refusal, though pending, is still a refusal, isn’t it?
May 8, 2017 at 17:01
No.

Dear BritSimon,
Thank you for your support sir. Much appreciated. I am from Somalia and DV2017 winner. I had my interview on 18/01/2017 and was put on AP since then. I have been on AP for more than 15 weeks. I thought that AP takes 90 days latest. My question is what is the longest that a case has been on AP. And is it different for Somali nationals since Trump included extra background screening of people from these countries.
Please am desperate and cant wait anymore. Thanks.
May 10, 2017 at 21:58
I have known AP to last over 6 months in some cases. There is nothing you can except wait.

Leaving it so late is very unwise. You have almost no time left if they need any additional time for approval.

Then lately i was selected in the dv lottery. The ds-260 is my problem. Are we supposed to make some payments before filling in or not ? ” i mean the usd 330 “
May 8, 2017 at 03:45
1. You don’t pay until the interview.
2. Once the baby is born you will add the child. Not now

Hey brit , I wanted to ask which continent gets best chances that their people get selected , I noticed that not a lot of middle east people been chose . If possible can you explain me that ?
2. I am a complete ignorant about the case numbers , what means high and low case numbers . Thank you for your time and help
May 8, 2017 at 17:18
Each region has a quota based on population. If lots of people within a region enter then the chances of selection are low. OC has the best chances of selection because the population is relatively high and the entries are low.

Hi Simon, I want to start by saying thank you for this excellent resource. It certainly helped me a great deal.
Just a quick question :
I am currently a student at a UK university(completion later in 2017) and I’m unsure as to what I should fill in under the previous education section.
Under “number of institutions”, I have tried filling
– Primary schooling
– Secondary schooling
– A Levels
– Current university
The problem I am encountering right now is that for the “current university” details, this is my final year at university and my official end date is sometime later in 2017. I am unable to enter a completion date that is accepted by the online form. It says this -> “Date of Attendance To cannot be equal to or later than today.” Do you have any idea what I should be doing? Should I remove the current university information? I did fill it under the present education section.
Cheers,
J

Completed education should be listed under education. Active education is current occupation.
