First of all I want to say Happy New Year to all of you. I wish you health and happiness and I hope this year is the year your dreams come true.
As I announced in this earlier post, the CEAC data because available at midnight on January 1st. It is really important that as many people as possible take a few minutes a day to solve some CAPTCHAS to help scrape the CEAC data. Over 4000 people have looked at my announcement, and nearly 300 people have tried out the system to solve at least 1 CAPTCHA. BUT we need more people to share the workload! Rightย now members Simba, Abdikarim, Guyanese_Spice, ยฅฮตฮทฦด have each solved over 2000 CAPTCHAS each – BIG thank you to them! I know solving CAPTCHAS is harder on some phones, so some won’t be able to help much, but I do think we can make the scraping go faster and easier if we can share the workload among more readers!
A BIG thank you to those members that have already solved some CAPTCHAS. One member was smart enough to mention how many CAPTCHAS he had solved when he asked a question this morning, and I was especially careful to give him a full and detailed answer to his question. Those who put effort in for the community as a whole can rightfully expect my full attention!
Now then – some people might now know why this data is important. So – let me explain what it is, how much data we have so far and what we can figure out with the data.
CEAC is a database that contains the status of every case for DV lottery. The earlier aticle explained how you can check the status of your own case. It only gives high level status. It cannot tell you whether your DS260 is processed, it cannot tell you when your AP will finish, it cannot tell you your actual interview date. It is just a high level status. It shows the status of the case (waiting to be scheduled, ready for interview, issued, refused, AP etc). Once the case is scheduled, it tells us the embassy the case is assigned to and the number of derivatives on each case. We canย also figure out the holes, which is what we refer to as density (how many cases are missing from each 100 case numbers). Density decreases in AF, EU andย AS regions, which is why VB progress can accelerate later in the year.ย Being able to predict that density drop is helpful to predict VB progress. ย So – it is very useful data.
So far we have solved about 35000 CAPTCHAS, (each captcha allowing us to check one case number). Xarthisius setup the software to go after the current case rangesย first and then go back and find the rest of the case numbers, right up to the highest case number in each region. Right now the scraper has already got all the cases that have been scheduled up to the latest VB – so 14300 for AF region, 10700 for EU and so on. That has allowed me to total the totals for each region which I will show below. Currently the system is going after the higher case numbers in each region. We probably have around 65000 more numbers to check. Once we have checked ALL the case numbers we will then be able to see the density changes throughout the whole number range and perform some extensive analysis. However, some interesting details are already being revealed. More on that later in this article.
So – Here are the current totals as shown by the data.
Please note that because of the way CEAC is updated by the embassy, there are some cases where AP, REFUSED and READY numbers are not accurate. For instance. If a principal selectee is refused, the derivatives on that case CANNOT be approved. However, some derivatives might remain in READY or AP status because the embassy doesn’t mark all derivatives as refused. I have a way to calculate those cases but for now, these numbers are a good enough representation to show the progress. ย However, the embassies seem to be more diligent with Issued status – so that number is more reliable. We can see that nearly 9000 visas have been issued so far – that being after 3 months of interviews. Bear in mind that many of the AP cases will be successful so we will see that issued number rising faster in later months. That is normal.
Now – I also mentioned there was an interesting finding in the data so far. This concerns EU region. As of now I can only see EU numbers up to about 12000. But there is a very obvious drop in density that happened just after 10700. That means at least one of the countries (probably Uzbekistan or Ukraine) met the selection limit by that point. In other words for that country (and I don’t know which one it is) ALL their cases were given case numbers of below 10700. Each of those two countries had nearly 4500 selectees (including derivatives) so that means one of those countries took about 2800 to 3000 casesย in the first 10700 case numbers. To understandย why that happens please read my old post that explains theย draw process.
Now, what does this mean for VB progress. Well, in a post I wrote a couple of months ago (actually written on October 12) I explained how VB progress happens in some detail, using EU as an example. At that time I mentioned we would see increases of about 2500 per month for EU until March or April. In fact, the reduced density will mean we will start to see slightly faster VB progress. Probably about 3500 for the next VB for EU. I had predicted we would see about 16000 by April interviews, and in fact we should be nicely above that by April. These are rough estimates, not accurate predictions, but once I start seeing more complete data I will be able to refine the guesses. I cannot do the same for other regions yet because I need the rest of the data. So please – don’t bother asking me – just get solving CAPTCHAS!! ๐
January 2, 2018 at 21:03
I expect Egypt will get 13450 in the March newsletter
January 3, 2018 at 09:36
Goodluck! im from Egypt too and my visa was issued last week.
January 2, 2018 at 21:05
Happy to have you Brit. Its my pleasure to help. But The system says NO CAPTCHAS to solve.???
January 2, 2018 at 21:54
Xarthisius made a tiny change to the program. It should allow solving now. Many thanks for your effort!
January 2, 2018 at 21:09
Hi brit
Im from AF and my administration processing is taking so long, the consular told me at the interview that my case is APPROVED, but it has been almost 60 days and i didnt receive any SMS from aramix, i checked CEAS and my case is AP, is thar normal?
January 2, 2018 at 21:52
So your case is on AP, not approved. It doesn’t matter what the consular officer told you at the interview. You now have to wait until your AP is resolved – and I cannot tell you how long that will last.
January 2, 2018 at 21:09
Hi Simon, thanks for your explanation.
I dont understand why is a very obvoius drop in density after 10700 in EU region?
Thanks.
January 2, 2018 at 21:51
I can count the holes for each 100 or 200 cases. So – prior to 10700 there were about 45 holes per 200 cases. After 10700 that number increases to about 90 holes per 200 cases. Read the link provided to understand that better.
January 3, 2018 at 00:25
Excuse me for this question and you probably might think why the people donโt understand since I have written about โthe holesโ many times but still I have one question regarding this and will be pleased to get answer.
So there were 45 holes in each 200 cases for EU, i.e around 165 actual cases. My question is: Can I be in that hole too when my number is current??? Itโs really stressed me out..
Me and my wife have completed our ds-260 late july and as I see we can expext our 2nl pretty soon EU 17***
Thanks in advance Mr.
Short answer will be enough for me.
January 3, 2018 at 00:57
You misunderstand what is a hole. In a series of 1, 2, 4, 5. There is one hole. Number 3. If you have a number you are not a hole. Please read the linked post on holes.
January 3, 2018 at 10:37
Thanks Simon.
And why are the holes going to increase to about 90 after 10700? Sorry but I dont really get this. ๐
January 3, 2018 at 16:38
Did you read the linked explanation?
January 2, 2018 at 21:29
Hi Brit.
I am Jgft in the hall of fame ??
I am from SA regiรณn and I want to know
1.-when you said 230 visas issued for SA until which month is that data? November?
2.- how many issued visa was the total for SA in the past years?
Thanks
January 2, 2018 at 21:46
Thanks for your exceptional effort on the CAPTCHAS.
1. The data extract is “live” at the point in time each case is scraped – (en directo – jajaja). So – as soon as the embassy updates CEAC that data is there, if our scraper happens to check that case number 10 minutes later, we will have the new status. So – once we have ALL the cases, the scraper software will go back to the beginning and this time will be checking the cases worth checking. So as a case number is shown to be a hole we won’t need to recheck that number. Same thing once it is refused and so on. Of course – this relies on the embassies being diligent with the updates. So – in short this includes December issuances. Official issuances are published each month and Xarthisius is providing that data in a nice format at the location I gave in my earlier post.
2. You can look at country and regional numbers at the following location. These are official numbers and include adjustment of status cases as well as CP.
https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/AnnualReports/FY2017AnnualReport/FY17AnnualReport-TableVII.pdf
January 2, 2018 at 21:51
For EU I have looked a bit, saw that in 39000-39100 there is 11% real case.
And checked 39700-39800 there is 11% real case too.
Are these going to be updated or are the not-found cases really nonexistent?
January 2, 2018 at 21:52
OKAY I have received my answer in the upper comment lol ๐
January 2, 2018 at 22:10
Yup – and now you can understand why the progress moves faster at higher number ranges.
January 2, 2018 at 22:03
Thanks Brit for the effort. I did get some time yesterday and solved a few hundred captchas and I’ll commit some more minutes today for this important exercise.
January 2, 2018 at 22:09
Thanks!
January 3, 2018 at 00:03
Mr.Simon from this article
1- we can predict that Jan VB for egypt will be more than 13000 or no?
2- Are u thought that density will decrease in the coming VB ?
January 3, 2018 at 00:18
I need to see the whole AF file before I know much more. Also, predicting cutoffs for countries like Egypt is hard, because I can’t be certain of the distribution of case numbers to that particular country. So – best answer for Egypt is “wait and see”.
January 3, 2018 at 03:33
Dear Brit,
There’s no any predict for Asia safe number after you got the CEAC data? and is 2018AS9050 is Safe?
January 3, 2018 at 04:42
He will probably make the whole coverage in a couple of days max..
January 3, 2018 at 06:08
Well AS is pretty much impossible to predict – because we don’t know the impact of the travel ban. So – wait and see.
January 3, 2018 at 06:07
Dear Brit I have submitted few Captcha one day before and website was working normally but now it is showing an error message mentioning “Could not get new Captcha. Please try again later”. How to resolve this issue ?
Thanks In advance

January 3, 2018 at 16:50
Xarthisius reiterated the comment of “Please try again later”.
January 3, 2018 at 07:49
Kudos, SIMBA for staying top of the CAPTCHAS. i have been running after you in vain. Pausing at 1627.Guys before asking BRIT to predict anything let’s all focus on clearing the CAPTCHAS to allow him do precise analysis. Thanks Brit for your assistance.
January 3, 2018 at 16:45
Well said.
January 3, 2018 at 09:01
Thank you Brit for your post, you made my day beautiful! ๐
My EU29XXX is 100% safe, I think ๐
January 3, 2018 at 16:44
You are correct.
January 3, 2018 at 11:42
Hi Dear,
Thank You for your efforts. Ihave seen the above table. But you haven’t mentioned the cases which is current but with no response still at nvc. Can you explain why?
Regards,
Madel
January 3, 2018 at 16:31
I cut out the NVC case numbers because people might find that confusing (as I only had a partial file). Cases stay in the “at NVC” until scheduled. Because some people do not submit their DS260 (I call them non responses), some cases will ALWAYS remain “at NVC”.
January 3, 2018 at 20:11
Noted. Does the above numbers in the above table include the derivatives?
January 3, 2018 at 20:20
Yes
January 4, 2018 at 11:08
Hi Mr. Brit,
Are you going to publish all the statistics (data of each case) after we finish solving the CAPTCHA so we can do some analysis?
Regards,
Madel
January 4, 2018 at 11:11
Yes
January 3, 2018 at 12:25
suddenly the CAPTCHAS page is misbehaving. Is there anyone else with the same challenge? It’s loading forever. My internet is okey because all other sites open pretty fast
January 3, 2018 at 12:32
Hi Brit, my case #:AF31xxx I did droped my DS 260 form since July last year can you please help me with prediction on case
January 3, 2018 at 16:29
Read the FAQ entry on how to read the visa bulletin. Then, wait and see.
January 3, 2018 at 13:40
mr simon
firstly merry christmas for you
Q1: do you excpect that the next VB for egypt will increase ?
Q2: CN(20xxx egypt ) is still safe after CEAC is published?
January 3, 2018 at 16:20
You keep asking similar questions. Please. Just be patient.
January 3, 2018 at 14:56
Hey Iโm syrian my interview was in 29th of November and they said itโs approved then they called me to tell me that my visa will be refused according to president proclamation then they returned my passport with visa printed and canceled without prejudice.
When I checked my visa status I figured out itโs on AP .
In your opinion what is the procedure now ?
January 3, 2018 at 15:14
Hi my dear, so what was your case number? because mine is AF31xxx and haven’t receive interview time yet
January 3, 2018 at 15:47
Insensitive much?
You are not current. Wait. Read the FAQ.
January 3, 2018 at 15:27
My deepest sympathy for you
January 3, 2018 at 16:17
That was unfortunate timing. They judged that your visa wasn’t considered issued as you had not received it. So, now you are on AP, and will stay in that status unless the travel ban is altered in some way.
January 3, 2018 at 15:25
Not sure what happen with the captcha counts, I should have somewhere around 400, but when I redo again, the counter back to 16x ??
Nothing important, but I think I am going to race Simba here lol
January 3, 2018 at 15:47
I’m not certain either. It might be that the system has two logins for you? Perhaps Xarthisius will comment.
January 3, 2018 at 16:04
Mr. Brit , Thanks for your great effort. About U2 countries I checked the first 2 months’ stats. Apr. 400 visas issued for Ukr, ald also apr. 400 for Uzbekistan. Simple forecast for 3 months 600 per country. The number of visas that issued for U2 is under limits. Because of the people in U2 who doesnt’ continue the process, many people didn’t win the lottery. In other words, appr 4500-5000 visa will be available for others.
Am I right or misunderstand?
Thanks.
January 3, 2018 at 16:57
Yes, not every peron selected applies, not every person that applies is approved. That is why KCC select more winners than available Green Cards.
January 3, 2018 at 17:07
Hey Brit, would love to help, but admittingly dont get it. I go to that link that you posted, I log in, I see captchas, I type them in, and then I do the same thing again. Is that what you were asking for? I happily continue entering, but what’s the point again? Not sure this is what you were asking for, it doesnt seem i’m solving anything, I’m just “copy-pasting”
January 3, 2018 at 17:13
LOL – yes that is the task. Every time you solve a CAPTCHA a program behind the scenes gets one real case from CEAC. It’s the work of a genius – and as you can see – it is working!
January 3, 2018 at 17:17
ahh. okay. lol. Thanks!
January 3, 2018 at 17:59
I consider it a focus/meditation exercise. ๐
January 3, 2018 at 18:32
LOL!
January 3, 2018 at 17:37
dear brit, the ceac scraper doesn’t work , i’m facing a blank captcha
January 3, 2018 at 17:45
“Could not get a new captcha. Please try again later”
January 3, 2018 at 17:39
Wow, this means our EU number 18,2** might end up being called for interview a bit sooner than expected! We still appear to be on the cusp between April and May (doing the estimated math) but prior to reading this post I was thinking May/June. If the actual progress is even just a LITTLE bit faster over the next 1-2 bulletins, we may get an April interview. ๐
I like the addition of the “CAPTCHA’s Left to Solve” number in the data scraping tool. Very motivating. Also very interesting to see that for every one CAPTCHA I solve, there are 5-10+ other CAPTCHA’s being solved. Makes the progress feel all that much faster.
Thanks Simon!
January 3, 2018 at 18:09
Yes you might squeeze into an earlier month.
The scraping progress is fast. We have over 70k case numbers solved. We don’t know exactly the highest case numbers for three regions yet – so the remaining to solve may increase as that is figured out – but the community is doing a great job.
January 3, 2018 at 18:59
Just to add to this. I just counted the cases (excluding holes) between 10700 and 18200. There are 4159 cases. The VB progress is determined by how many interviews they want, taking in to account the cases, and of those, the cases that have had their DS260’s processed. That processed number relies on response rate, which increases over time, but the previous VB (from 8200 to 10700) included 1991 cases. So – 4159 might be a bit too much for 2 months. So – I think you will be current in May, with a small chance of squeezing in to April.
January 4, 2018 at 00:42
Regarding to that, could you please see how many actual cases are there up to EU178** and do I have bigger chanses to end up in april month?
Thank you Mr. Brit ๐
January 4, 2018 at 00:51
I don’t want to do this for every case number people throw at me. Take the above numbers for 18200 and reduce by a bit.
January 4, 2018 at 01:13
Mm okay, so considering the actual cn from the LAST month (8200-10700) which was 1991 cases, so 1991 multiple 2 months = 3982 by APRIL. Around 177 cases reduced out of the 4159 by EU 18200. Hope I calculated it in a good way ?
January 4, 2018 at 04:45
Hi Simon,
Is there any way to reach that data, I mean if we can see all the cases with the situation in a table in the link you provided?
January 4, 2018 at 05:57
Once completed I will publish it.
January 4, 2018 at 15:39
Thanks Simon! Very much appreciated! That’s right in line with what I was thinking myself yesterday. I’ll try and find this comment again and record when we actually do get called, just for future interest. ๐
January 3, 2018 at 19:57
Hi Brit I m doing the scraping, I m confused so how would you know about the case that you want. I need clarification, you just have to type the code and hit submit ? anything else to do?
January 3, 2018 at 20:23
When you help with the scraping you are allowing the scraper program to capture one case – not necessarily YOUR case. The effort helps the community.
If you want to check YOUR case, you go directly to the CEAC page (link in the original article – linked above).
January 3, 2018 at 20:47
I love you Mr Brit
January 3, 2018 at 21:13
LOL – thank you – but I am married!!!
January 3, 2018 at 21:34
What does ‘intransit’ mean??
January 3, 2018 at 22:22
Statuses are fully explained in the earlier post linked in the article above.
January 3, 2018 at 21:38
Hi! Ukraine – we have selectees with 16XXX case numbers.
We have some Viber and Telegram groups with many winners from Ukraine. So if you need some answers from us – just reply here.
January 3, 2018 at 22:25
Hi Ivan,
That is interesting – thanks. I think Uzbekistan must be the earlier cutoff then. There is a second cutoff at just over 18000, so perhaps that is Ukraine. There is also another country cutoff at around 36000, and there may be another later than that.
January 4, 2018 at 00:26
Hello Brit,
According to data Russia seems to have the highest selectees number – 4500. 2nd is Uzbekistan – 4494, 3rd Albania – 4484, and then Ukraine as 4th – 4478, followed by Turkey – 4390. So all those countries and only those (EU region) have over 4000 selectees. If numbers are very similiar why and which country cutoff is at 36k range? Next highest country below 4k is Armenia with 2844 selectees. What are your thoughts about those numbers and cutoffs? Thanks and Regards.
January 4, 2018 at 00:31
The numbers are similar because the country selection limit was imposed. The point at which each country hits that limit is directly related to the number of entries in each country, relative to the whole entry pool. If you read my linked post about the draw process and holes, you would understand more clearly.
January 4, 2018 at 00:55
Thanks. I’m reading all your articles so don’t take my question as dissmissive behaviour and laziness to not read your articles. I’m aware that numbers are similiar because of limitation and CN range depends if those limited 4,5k were drawn out of 50k, 100k or 500k entrants. But i didn’t expect such wide range and differences. Thanks again. And again, I’m reading and trying to understand your articles. Now I feel like disrespectful moron who doesn’t read anything ๐ Regards.
January 4, 2018 at 01:37
Carlos, let me try and make this clearer. For simplicity let’s ignore derivatives for a moment.
Let’s say a region has only 3 countries, and instead of 4500 being the limit, let’s assume the limit is 5000.
Country A has 100k entries. Country B has 1 million entries. and Country C has 4 million entries.
The chance of being selected in that region is 1%. The numbers are picked at random, so the countries would get the following distribution. Each time country A gets a selectee, country B would have 10, and country C would get 40.
So country A would get 1000 selectees and those selectees would be spread out across the whole case number range of case numbers.
Country B should get 10,000 selectees, but because of the limit, they only get 5000. However, ALL their 5000 at in the first half of the number range.
Country C should get 40,000 selectees, but because of the limut, they only get 5000. However, ALL their 5000 would be in the first 12.5% of the total case number range.
If the case numbers went up to 50000, we would see density reduction at 6250 (country C), then at 25,000 (country B).
Does that make sense?
January 4, 2018 at 12:55
Clear and transparent. Couldnโt be better. Thank you for such comprehensive yet simple explanation and apologize for taking your time to explain. I really admire your patience and i didnโt and donโt want to test it ? At least iโm not trying to ask if my CN is safe and when or if my interview will take place. Trying to figure out it myself with your and this community great help. My wife says iโm freak with doing so many graphs and excel sheets with tens versions โwhat ifโ. I know nothing asked and answered will change the course and make things go faster, everything will happen according to plan when the right time comes, but itโs really awesome and cheering to have you and this community here to share own questions and concerns, good and bad experience. Really thank you for this blog and really apreciate all things you are doing around here. Wish you and your family health and prosperity. And a lot of patience… Regards.
January 4, 2018 at 13:09
OK, well it sounds like you will be happy to see the raw data. I’ll publish that once we have the full file. It let’s us understand better and perform the “what ifs” BUT there will also be an element of unkown because every year is different, politics may have an effect (travel ban) and so on.
January 4, 2018 at 13:26
More than extremaly happy. Will have more data to feed my hungry excell sheets, so the wife can yell at me more ? I like it…
January 4, 2018 at 05:40
In Turkey, we have selectees with 39XXX case numbers.

People who don’t meet the requirements, or lie and so on.
January 4, 2018 at 00:39
And regarding the Captcha – I’m getting the Heroes of Might&Magic 3 syndrom – one more turn ๐ Trying to finish at round number, but due to lag usually is one captcha more. So then I’ll think i will do few more, probably easy ones to read and type cases and then finish. But when i get to a bit harder then I’m thinking: this one more before sleep, i cannot finish with easy one. And after this again – maybe i’ll do some easy until i get to harder one… and so on… rinse and repeat. Does anyone has the same syndrome? ๐
January 4, 2018 at 00:52
LOLOLOL. I think you need a break.
January 4, 2018 at 01:05
I know what you mean. Until 1 hous ago I was 2nd place im Jgft.
Aros where are you from?
January 4, 2018 at 13:22
Hello Juan. I Was talking about some syndrome not about total disease ๐ Just kidding. You are doing really awesome job for this community. I donโt even dare to compare my results with the top, can only watch your back, but i donโt get depressed by this and want to put few my bricks in this wall ? – canโt let you do everything so you can take all glory by yourself ?. But the top 10th is really awesome. Donโt get it serious but I imagine top ten captch- ers as Korean e-sports Starcraft players, with coffee drip infusion sitting and doing captchas ๐ But itโs only my imagination ? great job and thank you on my and for sure this community behalf.
Regarding to question where Iโm from (guess Aros is typo) Iโm really sorry to dissapoint you – iโm not SA region, iโm not even spanish fluent speaking person (know few words and sentences only). Central europe – Poland, i know nick is confusing but this is how i was called by friends since high school. Once again thx for yours and otherโs effort, keep up great job and remember to have some rest sometimes ?. Reards.

2590, guys. Whose gonna do more? (Yep, I’m bragging, but hey, I’m just a human ๐ )
P.S
Given the current political background, is it likely, that Trump might have his way and get DV2018 cancelled? Or will this process require much more time?
P.S.S
Happy new year, and thank you for your hard work, as always ๐
January 4, 2018 at 04:24
Well thank YOU for your effort also. WE now have about 90,000 case numbers checked. We should complete the range tomorrow!
Trump can’t change laws, that isn’t how things work. So – in order to make a change, they would have to introduce a bill, and so far the Republicans and Trump have shown they don’t know how to do that. But even if they did get success because the Dems try for Daca, then that law would not affect DV2018.
January 4, 2018 at 07:53
Yes, I’m aware that Trump can’t do that single-handedly, by referencing him I meant the Republicans. Could you please clarify your last sentence?
Thanks a lot.
January 4, 2018 at 11:34
When the government majorities are not large the Republicans and Democrats have to negotiate deals – give and take. So – I can imagine them negotiating a deal based on their biggest concerns. The Rs want funding for the stupid wall, a reduction to chain migration, and because Trump is a moron, the ending of DV. The Dems want the DACA program https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/immigration-reform/what-daca-here-s-what-you-need-know-about-program-n798761
The dems won’t want to fund the wall, but may have to give something financial for the Rs to have some PR win. Chain migration might be difficult to agree, depending on how the changes affect the families. DV is pretty easy to give up, because merit based immigration makes more sense, realistically.
So – depending on the appetite to do “something” to say they “fixed” immigration, we might see some deal being done on a bill that could get enough votes to pass. BUT, if we did see that, it would NOT be effective immediately – hence why I saw no impact for DV2018.

Little bit over 10k records left for review … THANK YOU Simon and xarthisius for giving us all opportunity to help. Simon you have no idea how much information your website provides and how helpful resource it is!!! I learned a lot about lottery, holes, statuses and I look forward seeing all the numbers once we extract them all … my sister got EU 27xxx number and I hope she will get a chance for interview sometime during the summer.
Happy new year to everyone!
January 4, 2018 at 22:21
Hello Mr. Simon from your experience and with u opinion Are u thought egypt may be cut off in down 25000 as each month V.B just 2000 (2000 * 12 = 24000)
January 4, 2018 at 22:58
Because of density, VB progress speeds up in later months.
January 4, 2018 at 23:36
Below 2300 left, c’mon guys we can do it ๐
January 4, 2018 at 23:44
Less than 2000 – so 300 in 8 minutes. Last chance for those who didn’t try this feature…
January 4, 2018 at 23:51
Haha – it isn’t really a last chance. Although this is the lions share of the work, we will want to continue to scrape until the end of DV2018. We will want to continue getting progress updates. However, it will be a lot less numbers because we won’t have to check the holes again, and will only need to get non issued cases that are current. I’ll explain that in my next update post. Also – you may see the counter go up, since it has to find the max numbers.

Hi Brit!! I am very glad to show how thankful I am for all the information you give here by doing some captcha work (so far 701?).
I have found all answers to my questions from your articles and answers to others so far. Just wanted to thank you !

Cool. There are 3 cutoffs for Europe – Uzbekistan 10600, Ukraine 18810, Russia – 36020 with max EU number 39695; 2 cutoffs for Africa – Egypt 25490 and Ethiopia 36010 with max AF number 52581; and only one cutoff for Asia – Iran 7110 with max AS number 13396
January 5, 2018 at 06:14
That’s not exactly correct – you have made some incorrect assumptions, but nevertheless a useful analysis.
January 5, 2018 at 04:07
Hi Simon,
many thanks for your work, you are a treasure!
i have one comment and two questions. firstly, my wife is Ukrainian and she is DV2018 winner and her case is EU18***. so, as was earlier mentioned by Ivan, Ukraine was not cut off at 10,700. now, to the questions – we live and work in Abu Dhabi now and as of now, we have selected Abu Dhabi as a place for visa interview. The denial rate for Abu Dhabi embassy in absolute terms is heart-breaking (48 refusals), in relative terms it is simply horrifying (40%). do you think it might be worthwhile scheduling an interview in Kyiv embassy? and the second question is – our son is US citizen, do you think we should take him to the interview? We mentioned him in DS260, but did not prepare separate DS260 for him.
Many thanks
January 5, 2018 at 06:12
Ukraine embassy would probably be easier and less delayed because of education requirements. BUT it is typically inconvenient to interview out of your living country, because you have to arrive early enough for the medical in country, and leave your passport for a week or two for visa printing – so it’s your choice.
Your choice about the son – it isn’t that common, so I don’t have advice.
