Brit, thank you for the reply but you did not answer the first question of chances of people from Ghana??Please throw some light on Ghana.
December 6, 2016 at 14:49
Ghanaians have a VERY low chance – the lowest chance in the world.
First, Ghana has an enormous number of entries which forces KCC to limit the selectees from Ghana. So the chance of being selected for a Ghanaian is probably once in 200 or 300 years of applying. Most other countries in Africa have a better chance than that.
Then the Ghanaian embassy refuses the majority of cases in Ghana because of high levels of fraud, failure to follow instructions and so on.
So – the combined effect means a horrendous success rate. Out of 1.8 million Ghanaians who entered the lottery last year, less than 1000 got a Green Card. Again, that is much worse than any other country, but it is “self inflicted”.

Hi Simon
We had interviewed yesterday and officer gave us red (pink) paper. We should prepare something such as university letter , academic research and background …
If we send them to embassy then ,they give us visa or not?
Thanks
December 6, 2016 at 14:37
They have asked for something to give you a chance of proving you meet the requirements, and therefore to approve you. So – it is up to you to do as you have been instructed.

Brit ,thank you for the quick reply.I believe there is still hope for Ghanaians.
December 7, 2016 at 04:41
Hey Simon, I couldn’t find any information related to this in the FAQ. How long does it take for us to get the physical card after entering the US?

December 7, 2016 at 07:09
Hello Mr. Simon how have you been? my number (2017AF00013XXX) is current for January but because of my late submission (late August), i’m waiting my interview to be for Feb/March. i’m so sorry if this question is answered previously but my question is my sponsor living in USA is living in the same city that i used in the DS-260 form but now she changed the address (location). am i supposed to unlock & update the change or i can present the correct address during the interview? thanks!
December 7, 2016 at 15:18
You can unlock safely without delay, or you can change it at the interview. I would unlock.
December 7, 2016 at 07:23
Hello Brit! We got xxxx129 and we went to the interview, We was thinking, We have all our documents, but our Clearance Police Certificate from other country was close to expire, and the Consular agent asked for a new one, they gave me a 221g letter. Our family interview was on November 08 and We sent out our new documents on December 05. Do you know how long take normally the embassies take in this situation? Do you think it could be a reason to affect the process? Please, only let me know if you heard about it before, and how is it going on?
December 7, 2016 at 15:17
It could take some weeks to get the decision, because the case was on AP at the end of the month.
December 7, 2016 at 07:35
Hi Brit,
We had a successful interview on the 5th of Dec at Abu Dhabi. Mine and my 2 kids passport were kept to issue the visas right away but my Husband was put on AP beacuse he had an old open I-20 in the system when he was studying in US. So the consular said she need to remove it and it will be fast and maximum will take a month for his visa. But my question is I cannot see any status on the CEAC website and also on the embassy website. It is always saying invalid case number in CEAC and saying no information on the embassy website. I am putting the case numer without the zeros. 2017AS3×××

December 8, 2016 at 15:27

Hi brit, yesterday was our interview in Dakar Senegal and my wife as the principal Applicant. The Co wasn’t convince that my wife’s School and working documents are authentic.
she finished her high school back in 2001 20002 academic year and obtain her certificate in 2005 but due to time both certificate were not presentable so she decided to apply at the ministry of Education for a recent certificates with date 2016 for the interview. she also presented the old certificate with the same information to the CO.
My question’ is there an appeal after the diversity visa refusal?. Is there any possibility to turn this case in our favor? Honestly, all her documents are correct and she’s working at the ministry of foreign affairs as a contractor for the past nine years. We are from Guinea.
December 7, 2016 at 15:13
THere is no appeal process. The refusal is final UNLESS it is a 221g refusal.
December 7, 2016 at 19:29
Thanks Brit, ours is 212(5)(A). But my wife’s documents are authentic as it was signed by the ministry of education and it was also signed by the juridic and consular department of the foreign affairs.
December 7, 2016 at 19:47
I want to write the consular section and put our case forward. what your advice sir?
December 7, 2016 at 20:12
I don’t really have any advice to give. The embassy are entitled to stand by the decision made by the CO. So, there is nothing you can do to force them to reconsider the case – and they are unlikely to agree to do so. But if you want to try, there is nothing stopping you.
December 7, 2016 at 22:18
Thank you Brit, Am hoping to play next year. what’s your advice?
December 7, 2016 at 23:26
Well, there is obviously a risk that they deny you again.
December 8, 2016 at 12:22
But are we still qualify to try our chance in the future? Or what do you think about our case?. Honestly our documents are authentic and can be verify.
December 8, 2016 at 14:02
But are we still qualify to try our chance in the future? Or what do you think about our case?. Honestly our documents are authentic and can be verify.
December 8, 2016 at 14:36
Like I said. You can try again.
December 8, 2016 at 14:40
Thanks a million times sir. You are really a nice personality. Thanks once more.

Hello! Mr. Simon,
Need some information regarding to I-134 Form;
1.While filling I-134 Form can we show ONLY one member of the family (husband, head of the family) OR have to indicate whole family including (spouse and kids)?
2.If there is an ONLY person from family on the form will it be doubtful/questionable?
Because Sponsor has a big household and his income may not cover everyone in my family. As you know my wife is Principal Applicant and there is me and my kids.
Thank you very much for your help and enjoy your day.
December 7, 2016 at 14:59
1. The form covers the whole family.
2. See 1
The income must be sufficient for the whole family PLUS the family of the sponsor.

Dear Simon
Is it worth it to have education assessment by an US institution in order to overcome any doubt / objections the consulat officer might have or it would be a waist of money ?
Thank you
Best regards
December 7, 2016 at 17:37
Waste of money.
December 7, 2016 at 19:01
Dear Simon,
Do you know if KCC’s answer can be more accurate over the phone ?
As instance can they inform me if my case is currently beeing processed , by that I mean , not queuing anymore but running the background check, or if I am gonna get the same generic answer than by mail ?
Thank you
December 7, 2016 at 19:17
What is the difference whether your case is queued or running the background check? Really – PATIENCE!
December 7, 2016 at 20:02
Simon,
The company I work for has offered me a position in NCY ( If I get the visa of course) and the dealine to start is April. So I am a little anxious to have the consultate interview on time.
Best regards.
December 7, 2016 at 20:18
I understand – but watching a kettle doesn’t make it boil any faster.
Based on your submission date I would expect you to get scheduled for a February interview – so relax.
December 7, 2016 at 19:22
Hi Brit. Me and my wife had the interview yesterday at the US Embassy Skopje, the officer asked me a couple of simple questions and in the end he said “Okay, everything looks good, except you need to obtain original birth certificates and request another appointment by email so you can bring them” (Because my country issued us some other certificates that they considered ‘birth certificates’, but the Embassy didn’t accept them), and then he handed us a yellow paper where it said “We regret to inform you the visa is refused bla bla bla.. you need to bring ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE (written by the officer) for your case to continue processing), and then he returned our documents together with passports. Now we got our original birth certificates and requested an appointment by email, which they made for us in 22 December, and they said my wife isn’t required to come, and you need to bring only the birth certificates.
My question is, based on what happened, what do you think, Is the visa more likely to be approved or not?
Thanks for your time.
December 7, 2016 at 20:15
That is a 221(g) refusal – otherwise known as AP. You have a chance to save the case by providing the information they have asked for. If you provide that documentation you have a good chance of approval.
December 7, 2016 at 19:31
Is the delay in DS260 processing occurring across all the regions?
My case number is EU6XXX, late August submission of ds260. Due to personal circumstances I hope for a March interview at the latest (I’m supposed to try and enroll in an US college, so having the green card/SSN would let me get an easier enrollment -for which most schools have a march/April deadline afaik-, AND fafsa)
December 7, 2016 at 20:09
Yes the processing backlog is the same across all regions although individual cases could vary in processing time.

Enter your comment here…Sir we are a family of four for the interview.
Is that any impact if we go for Medicals one week before the interview?
As a Matter of fact it’s a huge project for me so am trying to tie my financial nods.
any real impact?? I very much believe non of my applicants has a communicable disease
December 7, 2016 at 20:19
The timing of the medical and whether they have enough time to provide the report is something you can ask the physician.
December 7, 2016 at 23:26
Hi Simon,
My mothers maiden surname as reflected on my birth certificate is spelt incorrectly by one letter i.e “Jardin” instead of “Jardim”.
Will this be an issue for the interview?
Thank you for your help.

December 8, 2016 at 01:26
Only by visiting the SSA office.

Hi Brit
i am a winner of dv lottery 2017. i am looking for some advise.
I have already submitted ds260 form. but in section of arrests and criminal charges i only showed one arrest which resulted in caution in UK. i have two more arrests that has been discribed as No Further Action.
The question is should i reopen my ds260 and add those arrest in the form? And how do they reflect for my case?
December 8, 2016 at 05:40
Yes you should list the additional arrests. They won’t affect your case, but trying to conceal them will.
December 8, 2016 at 10:32
Hello Mr Brit,
I have been following your messages.
Thanks in a million for giving varieties of directions to vast majority of people.
Please, when is it likely for the 2NL of february interviews to come up. Is there any possibility of the submissions of 31st july DS- 260 to be therein considered?
December 8, 2016 at 14:39
2NLs are sent towards the end of every month. Hopefully they will get through July – but I can’t be sure.
December 8, 2016 at 12:37
Dear Brit, i have a little concern related to my ds-260 information.
the date i mentioned i completed high school and the the date written on the high school certificate
is a little different. my university documents are correct. Case no. AF25###. should i correct the ds-260 or it doesn’t have problem?
thank you
December 8, 2016 at 14:37
No need to correct.
December 8, 2016 at 15:08
Dear Simon
Summary Information
Before we can process your Diversity Visa application, each applicant in your case must complete Form DS-260, the Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application. To access the online form, click on the link to the right of an applicant’s name below, under the “IV Application” heading.
Above is the first paragraph from the DS 260 Submission page.
i submitted my case May 27, 2016 and my case is 17xxx and I should have been appointed by late Dec/January but I have not received my 2NL yet.
my problem is someone added another person to my case but never complete (statement above) and i am on a single program.
Don’t you think it’s because of that person that was added that my case is not schedule and you said that person can’t not be remove.or how do you see the whole satiation Simon.
Thanks
December 8, 2016 at 23:47
You could contact KCC to ask them about progress on your case. Otherwise, just wait. Your 2NL will come.

December 8, 2016 at 17:37
Hi,
We are from Greece and we have this DS 2001 form that we don’t know where to send.
This is what DS 2001 says:
YOU WILL NOT BE SCHEDULED FOR AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL YOU RETURN THIS FORM
FIRST: Complete the DS-260 (Immigrant Visa Electronic Application) or the DS-261 (Choice of Address and Agent). For information on requirements for filing the DS-260 or DS-261, please visit the Online Immigrant Visa Forms webpage. To complete the DS-260, please visit the Consular Electronic Application Center webpage. This office cannot process your case until this form is completed.
SECOND: Obtain the following documents on this checklist (ALL IN DUPLICATE), which pertain to you. DO NOT send them to this office.
THIRD: As soon as you have obtained all of documents that apply to your case, carefully read the statement at the first page, (DS-2001) sign and date it, and return the form to this office. You will not be scheduled for an appointment until you sign and return this checklist.
We sent it to the Kentucky Consular Center and to the US Embassy in Greece, but both of them don’t know what to do with this Form. We actually found it while we were going through the DV lottery specific instructions for for Greece.
Did anybody have a similar problem?
Thank you
December 8, 2016 at 23:16
Don’t worry about it. If you sent it to the embassy, you have complied. Take a copy to the interview.
December 8, 2016 at 22:23
Hi MR Simon
1) For current employment mentioned in DS260, Should I provide a document to prove that ?
2) For confirmation page, are there certain properties required in print? color, or black , Headers
3) Before i sent the DS260 for my son there was a link to DS1810, what about it? is it required for my son ( 5 years old)
December 8, 2016 at 23:14
1. That would be a good idea.
2. Print the confirmation page.
3. You need to click the link (and read) to be able to submit the form.
December 9, 2016 at 18:54
MR Simon,
1) Also for data about parents that filled in DS260, no need for providing papers at the interview to prove that ( Like birth certification for them ), YES?
2) Also for different addresses i lived in ( in my country ), o need for providing papers at the interview to prove that ( Like birth certification for them ), YES?
3) For Ds1810, I read it then I sent, no problem, but i want to be sure that no need for me to prepare it after that?
Thank you for your help, my questions may appear to you as very easy but may help many people.
December 9, 2016 at 19:03
Sorry for mistakes in Q.2
the correction is
2) Also for different addresses i lived in ( in my country ), no need for providing papers at the interview to prove that , YES?
December 9, 2016 at 19:12
1. Correct.
2. Typically not needed.
3. You complete the form in the USA – it is your responsibility to do so.
December 9, 2016 at 22:48
Mr Simon,
For previous spouse in DS260, If there is a previous spouse, is this affect anything?
December 9, 2016 at 22:55
You have to provide documentation for the termination of that relationship (divorce or death).
December 9, 2016 at 05:06
Hellow sir,
I am from Nepal…
I have lived in my birth city for about 5 years and after that we all family came to another city of Nepal and i compleated my Grade 1-SLC, school level and my collage level from here which is my present address now also…
But i have written in DS-260 as,
Present address — From Date:Nov 2012
My DOB is 1996-11-11
But I came here in present address is in 2002 AD…
so my question is,
1.Is this gonna create a big problem to me?
2.Should i have to unlock it or wait for my interview and tell the CO about it ?
3.Do i need any extra document for the clarification, actually my dad is a government officer and so we came here in present address.
Thankyou so much,
December 9, 2016 at 07:00
It’s not a problem. Relax. Nothing to do.
December 9, 2016 at 09:40
Thank you sir for giving your valuable time to us …You are soo much helpful to us…
There is a section on DS260 form that is
Highest level of education complete d—
the option called as “High school no degree”
would u clarify the meaning of it? ?
December 9, 2016 at 15:44
That means you attended High school but didn’t “graduate”. Don’t overthink this answer – it is not a question that can cause disqualification, because they disregard this answer and look at the evidence.
December 9, 2016 at 07:18
I’ve had my interview on 7th December ,2016 in US embassy, Dhaka. I’ve created my profile at ustraveldocs.com before interview. In CEAC now my case status is “issued– your visa has been printed on 7th December” but in my profile there is no updated or passport delivery information !!! Now my question is — ”
is it normal ?
How many days I need to wait where at my interview my consular said that ‘congratulations , everything’s fine with you , you get visa” ?
Please I am tensed . Can’t wait too longer.. It’s 2 years I am leaving apart from my husband…
December 9, 2016 at 16:49
Would you RELAX!!! It takes a week or two to get your passport back.
December 9, 2016 at 09:19
Dear Sir,
Good day,
My name is ALIREZA SOBHANI and my case number is 2017AS1096, and I would like to explain what happened for me and my wife on Interview date in US Embassy- Ankara / Turkey on 5th December.2016
My immigrant diversity visa application has been refused under section 212(a)(5)A) , and the officer after getting the related VISA fee, getting our finger prints, request and listening to our oath, only asked me two questions, where you are living and when is your marriage date ? And after my response she told me because of no mentioning about your marriage at DV entry time, unfortunately we cannot continue with you! and I explained immediately that I am sure I already has mentioned my status as married and I swear I already have mentioned all my wife information in the electronic online application form and she asked me have you registered/filled out your form by yourself or by any agency center ? and I replied by myself, finally she told us you must improve this matter showing us a confirmation letter that you are right and unfortunately I had nothing in my hand at the time, finally she gave us the refusal worksheet letter and said if you are sure send me some document in this case by email ( [email protected]) and we will response.
As you know at the moment I do not have my receipt of Entry Received- Submission Confirmation but I have only my Confirmation Number which I was checking my status on http://www.dvlottery.state.gov and finally I was informed that I got won on 5th.May.2016.
In addition please note that my wife ( Ms.Maryam Nekoueinia) and I have got married in 2003 ( 27th.Feberioury) and for registration in DV Entry 2017 same as previous years I have registered my Current Marital Status as married and I have filled out all simple requested my wife information in the electronic online DV entry even uploading her standard photo as well, and I emphasize I am sure one hundred percent in this case, you know I never had mentioned my status as single and I know definitely this is not my fault.
And now according to above I would like to ask you is there any chance for me or not? Because I am very upset and do not know what to do.
Thank you so much for your nice consideration and really appreciate it in advance.
Alireza
December 9, 2016 at 15:53
It is extremely unlikely that they have this wrong, and it is unlikely they will listen to any appeal. They have access to the information on the initial entry. However, you could ask KCC to confirm whether your wife was included – they may be able to check. Was she listed on the 2NL?
December 9, 2016 at 18:58
sorry, what is 2NL ?
December 9, 2016 at 19:10
Please make use of the FAQ.
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/what-does-the-2nl-look-like/
December 10, 2016 at 07:47
Dear Brit,
Thanks for your help,
YES, As I understood 2NLs is a letter sent by KCC after became CASE NUMBER current (it names second letter),
I got is on 14th .OCT.2016 and my spouse (my wife) name has been mentioned as beneficiary on it as well,
Even for your information I got another official email from US Embassy in Ankara-Turkey on 17th.November that they had remind me my interview date (Interview Scheduled 05 DECEMBER 2016 @ 08:00) and on that had been mentioned which original documents must be brought for each person separately as well.
Awaiting your kind reply
Kind Regards
Alireza
December 10, 2016 at 15:11
So – contact KCC as I mentioned.
December 12, 2016 at 18:27
Hi Simon
I just wanna know what the AP is? What the embassy do ? If embassy inquiry about us? It’s possible they refuse us to issue visa? And what reasons
Thanks
December 12, 2016 at 18:37
AP is a period of additional checks. Either checking documents submitted, or additional background checks. Whatever the embassy deem necessary.
Yes it is possible to be refused at the end of AP – the reasons vary.
December 9, 2016 at 16:53
Dear Brit,
Thanks for your kind guidance, I have a successful interview in the consular and I am waiting for my visa and passport. Meanwhile, I wanted to ask the following.
1- The hospital didn’t give me an X-Ray film , should I get it before departing from my place to show it at PoE ? is it a must ?
2- Is it forbidden to carry more than 10,000USD even if you would declare it ( as a family of three , it would be nice to have more ) ?
3- Can I make the USCIA payment to the personnel who will be collecting the sealed paper from the embassy ?
4- Can I go to a SSOffice in another state than I mentioned on the DS-260 to check and possibly to collect ?
5- Lastly, can my wife and baby go to a different state as soon as they arrive to the US and I collect their Social security ID without their presence needed ?
indebted for life time of your service and kind support.
December 9, 2016 at 18:46

3. I think you mean the $165 Green Card fee. If so, no. You pay that online.
4 & 5. If you selected the DS260 option for the SSN to be applied for by USCIS , it will be sent automatically w=to the address on the Ds260. If you don’t receive it after 2 to 3 weeks you can visit any SSA office to inquire. You can live anywhere you want.

Thank you for your reply for my previous question.
One more issue. While filling the ds 260 in section of education I showed my university degrees ( bachelor and masters degrees). And missed to indicate high shcool diploma (atestat). The question is should I reopen my DS260 and add my high school atestat, is it compulsory or university degrees are enough for the case?

Unlock and correct. Follow the instructions!

hi,
January 2017 visa bulletin not yet released?
December 10, 2016 at 15:06
No.
December 10, 2016 at 21:07
Hello Simon,
I’m quite certain that my interview will be in February. I asked my relatives to send me the i-134 now, since I don’t want to rush them when the time comes cause they are older, retired people. Do you think that it will be a problem at the interview, because the 1040 will probably refer to 2015? And will it cost them a lot to get a new one, if the need arises?
Thanks for existing, because so far you’ve saved me a lot of precious time (and nerves).
December 10, 2016 at 21:23
The 1040 doesn’t cost anything to obtain. You can ask for it now, but it would be better nearer the interview.
December 10, 2016 at 23:08
Mr Simon,
For the link of DS-1810 before signing and sending the form DS260, Why only appeared only before sending my son DS260 , didn’t appear for me or my wife or daughter?
December 10, 2016 at 23:37
Because it only applies to males 26 or under.

Hello Simon,
Your website is the best help I’ve found online. It answered most of my questions.
I do have some more if you can enough free time to answer.
1.I am an entrant for 2018.I will need to complete my military obligations (8 months) which start in May.They will end in December. If I win should I complete my DS-260 at around late June (according to your article) so I can have my interview at January 2018 (approximately)?
2.You said that delaying the submission of DS-260 does not have an impact on winning or not,but is it true that you should submit it as earlier as you can because if they have given 50k visas already you will be denied?
3)If I can’t attend the interview for any reason can I call the embassy and change the date and time?
5)Are you examined inside the embassy by one of their doctors?
6)How much must I pay overall to get the visa?
December 11, 2016 at 00:20
Well you have to win a lottery with less than one chance in 100 years – so this REALLY isn’t worth “planning” for… but here goes.
1. You could do that, possibly a bit later. The case number might cause a later interview anyway.
2. Yes and no. You could be VERY late in submitting and be OK.
3. Good grief. You haven’t even been selected yet – and already you are talking about changing the appointment!! Yes you can change – with some risk.
5. No, you attend a medical before the interview.
6. Around $500 plus medicals.
Really – relax. No more planning. You are very unlikely to be selected, so if you are selected, then you can plan.

Hi Simon,
My mothers maiden surname as reflected on my birth certificate is spelt incorrectly by one letter i.e “Jardin” instead of “Jardim”.
Will this be an issue for the interview?
Thank you for your help.
December 11, 2016 at 19:26
No problem.
December 11, 2016 at 19:31
Thank you 🙂

Hi Brit! We’re currently in the US and debating whether to do AOS or CP for this particular reason: the principal DV selectee may be considered to have undertaken unauthorized employment. It wasn’t really his fault but it’s not a clear case so there’s risk of being denied if applying via AOS. So we were thinking about doing CP instead (but I don’t know if this would solve the risks). What are your thoughts? Does past unauthorized employment in the US mean the GC will be denied if applying via CP?
I thought I’d ask here since I believe you tend to focus more on CP cases. Thanks so much!!
December 12, 2016 at 03:19
Yes, past unauthorized employment can ruin an AOS case. If there is any chance of that, CP is safer. Note, that switching to CP will take some months (background checks), so make your decision and start that process.
December 13, 2016 at 17:41
Uff that’s a tough decision then… let me ask something: if we went via AOS first and got rejected due to the employment issue, would we be able to switch to CP and do that as a second chance?
December 13, 2016 at 17:48
No. Refusal would be final. No need to procrastinate, it is not a tough decision. Remove the risk.

Hi Brit,
I have a question regarding the temporary visa we receive after the interview.
I had my interview and medical exam last week and I may go to the US in March or April 2017 to do an internship to complete my degree. The company is asking questions about my status and especially about the time when the pasted visa is not valid any more and before I receive the green card. I assume I am allowed to intern since I will be a lawfull permanent resident. But I am also wondering, what can prove it when the visa has expired and the green card not already received ?
I hope I made it clear. Thank you for your answer and all the work you do for us !
December 12, 2016 at 03:17
Upon the first entry to the USA, the temporary visa is endorsed and serves as proof of LPR status until the plastic card arrives (which takes 3 to 4 months).

December 12, 2016 at 09:24
Hi simon, hope you can help. I’ve received my SC number and Green Card after entering the country late October. My husband joined me at the time and was cleared to, but hasn’t received anything yet (I received my SC number after two weeks) We paid all the fees for USCIS but now one of the receipt numbers gets an error number. Any ideas how to proceed from here?
December 12, 2016 at 14:50
I would wait a few weeks. Then contact USCIS. For his SSN, visit the SSA office and apply for him.
December 13, 2016 at 21:18
Thanks simon! We did apply for it on the ds260 but something must have gone wrong. I’ll get in touch with them.
December 13, 2016 at 23:56
It is quite common that it goes wrong.
