People have started receiving their 2NLs for May 2017 interviews. It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times. Whilst cases are mostly current, the date of DS260 submission will mean that some cases will not be scheduled for May interviews, and will wait until a later month. The progress in DS260 submissions was not as fast as I expected last month, so I am keen to see where we have got to.
**** Update ****
It seems like most DS260 submissions in up to November have made it into the May interviews. There are even a few December cases – so that represents very good progress…

Hello Brit , I am from Iran but I am a UAE residence and live in Dubai for 6 years since 2010. Just to be sure do I need police report from both Iran and UAE or only from UAE. Since in DV page it says I need the police report from the country if I leave in it more than 6 month. Your advise is highly appreciated. Thanks a lot
March 29, 2017 at 09:38
*If I live in the country of residence for more than six month* i meant 😉 my bad spelling sorry.
March 29, 2017 at 16:40
Dear Simon , would you kindly answer my question please ?
March 29, 2017 at 16:44
I don’t need the reminder. I answer questions when I can – and your impatience for an answer is pretty rude.
March 29, 2017 at 16:49
I didn’t mean to offend dear , and didn’t mean to push ,just thought it might be lost between all the posts came after. Sorry for any inconvenience.
March 29, 2017 at 18:50

Hi Simon,
I got a 2NL this morning. Actually I knew the interview date before few days ago, because I called to KCC. My case number is 2017AS64**. DS260 was submitted on July 28 2016 and never unlocked. Interview date was on May 8 but I requested to change the interview date. My request was approval then my new interview date was re-scheduled on May 22 at Embassy.
Thank you for your help and great knowledge.
March 29, 2017 at 06:33
Received our 2NL yesterday, 28 March. CN AS62XX, DS260s were submitted by 25 June and the interview is on 23 May at the US Embassy, Colombo, Sri Lanka
March 29, 2017 at 07:05
Hello Brit,
I also received my 2nl for May interview.
CN: AS87xx
DS260 Submitted in late December.
Thank you 🙂
March 29, 2017 at 07:31
Hello
Thank you so much. I went for an interview yesterday, i was told to drop off a police certificate from a country i stayed for more than 6months. Do i have to go back to that country for the certificate? Will it lessen my chance of being issued a visa?
March 29, 2017 at 18:46
The reciprocity page for each country gives instructions on how to obtain the police cert. Your case will not be approved until you supply the police cert – and it will cause a delay. It’s a pity you did not have the police cert.

Hello Brit,
As you always say, patience is the key word when processing DV.
We were all wondering what was happening to2NLs for May. Some were even calling KCC for updates on their case but now that it’s here, I think we’re all relieved.

March 29, 2017 at 11:29
OC 13xx here. Submitted DS-260 in September. Unlocked and resubmitted in November and no interview. Hopefully June!
Thanks for all your hard work Britsimon!
March 29, 2017 at 18:36
That’s a surprise – but it may simply be lack of available appointments at the embassy (I think they went current too soon).
March 29, 2017 at 18:41
Similar situation for me – also in the OC region. Is it worth calling up to check on this, or is there nothing that can be done?
March 29, 2017 at 18:54
They do the best they can. Your calling won’t help. They normally use the VB to space out the interviews, so everyone was happy to see the word CURRENT – but it was, evidently, too early.
March 29, 2017 at 21:53
I’m 0C9xx and got excited when I saw current but evidently not yet as I’ve not got my 2NL. Patience when your dream job is being advertised in your fav US city is so hard!!!! 🙂
Thanks for the website – It’s been so helpful!

March 29, 2017 at 22:05
Our of curiosity John, is your embassy for your application Sydney too?
March 29, 2017 at 23:45
Sydney is a particular case. Their DV lottery interviews are ALWAYS setup on Tuesday mornings. So, they probably have told KCC they can schedule x number of interviews each Tuesday – and therefore are restricted in how many DV cases they can accept in a given month. Some other embassies allow more sophisticated allocation of appointments. So – in the scenario that OC went current, Sydney might conceivably get “booked up” pretty quickly. They “might” agree to do some additional interviews in May, or they might say “stone me mate – set them up in June”. So – wait a couple of days and see if anything changes, otherwise, it’s gonna be a June interview.
March 30, 2017 at 03:44
Your responses are always so insightful and helpful Britsimon. Cant’ wait to donate as much as I can manage to the treehouse fund the day I complete my interview!
March 30, 2017 at 06:17

Case #AF40***
Ds-260 submitted on 3rd June 2016, Never unlocked
Thanks Simon for your support and Good luck to all of you
March 29, 2017 at 12:27
Simon,
Million thanks for your updates. Yes, I received my 2NL, Eth. Case # 27***. Scheduled for May 2nd.
Two questions though:
1. I’ve registered 2 of my 3 kinds from the very beginning (at the time of application). We got our 3rd one even after we complete the DS-260 form; and included him later at “add family” section. They didn’t mention his name in the 2NL though. Do you think that there will be a problem; or what do you advise me to get ready for the interview process?
2. The details of country specific guide mentioned to register the interview date online at “Immigrant Visa Application”. I completed all the required data but couldn’t proceed as a message “case # is not ready for an appointment” pops up. Do I need to wait sometime or should ignore registration?
Thanks again for all your support!
March 29, 2017 at 18:35
1. No problem. Make sure you have a birth cert, passport and medical for the baby. Speak to the embassy and confirm they are expecting the extra child.
2. You just need an account for the courier – you don’t need an appointment (since you already have one)
March 29, 2017 at 12:54
Dear Simon 🙁
I am from Iran and my case number is AS55**. I submitted May, never unlocked and in March my number get current. Because I am studying in Malaysia, I selected Kuala Lumpur embassy also for my interview.
I called kcc today and asked about my 2NL. The operator says they could not succeed schedule interview for me till March and I have to check again April 15. I asked it means my interview will be in Jun? and she says Yes.
I surprised, shocked and upset. Because I dident expect it and I do not understand what the issue could be that they postpone my interview. Do you have any idea please why while I submitted early May and case number also is current, my interview should be postpone????? Hope I can get reply from you…..

March 29, 2017 at 17:18
The EOs have caused delays as interviews were cancelled, then rescheduled, then a second EO was announced and new procedures informed to the Embassies. So – it should not be a surprise that there are delays. You just have to be patient.
March 30, 2017 at 04:35
Thank you Simon. But i wonder why other people who have case numbers up to AS6000 or even AS8000, got their interview but me with AS55** dident get? If their excuses is based on interview cancellation, i thought lower case numbers should be in priority for interview rather than higher numbers. Am I wrong?
March 30, 2017 at 06:13
Excuses?? What excuses? They don’t need to excuse themselves. Your participation in this whole process is a privilege, not a right.
Now I explained what *might* be the problem – accept it or don’t. Either way, patience is required.
March 30, 2017 at 09:44
I know is privilege and not right and you are correct. Just I wonder why while i have lower case number didn’t get 2NLs (and submitted May) and other who have higher case number they got it. And, if as you say “new procedures informed to the Embassies”, shouldn’t they start with lower case numbers? and if that you said delay should happened, shouldn’t happened for higher case number rather than lower case numbers? Regarding your point about excuses i was meant their “reason” and please don’t stress on just one word…my question was simple and I thought maybe you have idea about it based on your experience and it maybe happened before that lower case numbers didn’t get 2NLs and higher got it. Sure nothing can do except, being patience . Hope now you understand what i was meant. Thank you again for your wonderful work.
March 30, 2017 at 14:49
Being able to be scheduled depends on the case number (VB) once current, the number is not relevant. Lower cases don’t have to wait for higher cases to get organized!
March 29, 2017 at 13:19
hi can my sponsor send me the scanned form through email or does they need it to send it by mail directly together with the supporting documents
March 29, 2017 at 17:14
The I-134 should be MAILED, other documents can be scanned and emailed.
March 29, 2017 at 13:27
Hello Simon,
I want to thank you so much for your support over the last 6 months. You have really helped me through the information in the site and your direct response to understand the process, manage my anxiety and to wait patiently for the 2NL which came earlier than I had expected based on my high CN.
2NL for the middle of May, CN:EU25XXX, DS-260 end September.
By the way, is anyone else from Greece?

March 29, 2017 at 13:40
2017AS64**
DS-260 submitted May 4, never unlocked
2NL received March 28, interview on May 31
If you may, I need some advise on the following.
Q1. I have already prepared my birth certificate, high school and university degrees/grades in May 2016, following my 1NL (one year before my interview), should I prepare new ones with a recent date? My understanding is that such documents do not change over time and accordingly do not have an expiry date. Can you please advise if I should prepare new documents?
Q2. Also, I have attested the above documents which are in arabic language & their English translation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lebanon. The attestation stamp is in French. It cannot be in English. It can only be in French or Arabic. In which language should the attestation be, given that my interview is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I have raised this question to the Embassy but I haven’t received a clear answer.
Q3. According to the instructions following my 2NL, step 1 is to register for an appointment online stating that “Registering your appointment provides us with the information we need to return your passport to you after your interview.” Does this step apply to DV? Should I provide the “Document Delivery Information”? If yes, can you please advise on how to do that?
Thank you a lot for your time Simon.
March 29, 2017 at 17:12
1. In my experience those documents don’t expire as you say BUT that might vary in some countries.
2. All documents must be shown (translated if needed) in English OR the official local language of the embassy.
3. Yes you need to register for the delivery of the passport after the interview. Follow the instructions given.
May 29, 2017 at 23:00
No need to register your DV immigration visa appointment in Riyadh, i did mine 10 days ago
March 29, 2017 at 14:20
Dear Simon,
The Italian consulate replied to my email, saying I have to register the appointment at https://usvisa-info.com/
These are the cases to proceed on:
I need to register an Immigrant Visa appointment
I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment.
I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a K visa appointment.
I am a Returning Resident outside the U.S. for less than one year with an expired, lost or stolen permanent resident card
I am a Returning Resident outside the U.S. for longer than one year
Seems to me it is the second case. Correct?
My wife is scheduled wih me. Does she have to fill that too?
Last question: When filling my request I am asked to enter the case number and the ds-260 number. Where can I find the number? Is it the Confirmation Number at the beginning on the pdf document, next to he Case Number, with a barcode?
Thanks a lot in advance Simon
March 29, 2017 at 17:09
“I need to register an Immigrant Visa appointment”
You only need to register as the principal.
Your DS260 confirmation number is shown on the DS260 confirmation page.
March 29, 2017 at 17:14
Thanks Simon.
I received an answer saying
The Immigrant Visa case number provided is not ready to schedule an appointment. If you have not received an appointment letter from the National Visa Center (NVC), you can check the status of your IV case at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/nvc.html.
If you have received an appointment letter from the NVC or an instruction letter from the Consular Section directing you to this website to schedule an appointment, please make sure to correctly enter your IV case number.
If you continue to receive this message, please send an email to the CSRA support [email protected] with the following information:
Is it because of organizational reasons and that trying tomorrow all should be fine? because other people seems to have experienced that, as far as I understand
March 29, 2017 at 18:59
I don’t know. Contact them and see what they say. In reality you don’t need them to arrange an appointment you only need the account for the courier.

Hi Brit, is it possible that people should still be expecting 2nls. I submitted on December 6, and unlock January 7, resubmitted January 9, cn af000272xx, I did not receive 2nl.
March 29, 2017 at 18:59
It’s just about possible, but also possible they will get interviews in a later month.
March 29, 2017 at 19:00
https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-it/iv Says my case number is not scheduled for appointment.
Do you think it is normal upload or organisational delay?

March 29, 2017 at 23:24
It does display the same response for me!. When I check on the CEAC system, it shows “In Transit”.
And if you read Britsimon’s post about 2017CEAC system, “In Transit” status is shown for a brief period when KCC has scheduled the interview, and transferred the case to the embassy. However, the embassy has not yet updated CEAC to acknowledge they have received the case.
So, I am assuming that the embassy has not yet updated the CEAC system.
March 29, 2017 at 23:47
Correct – and that MIGHT mean the courier system is also not updated.
March 30, 2017 at 06:15
Thanks a lot, I will wait and see
March 30, 2017 at 15:17
Dear Nicola,
Did you check the ceac system today?
I checked and it shows “Ready”.
But I still couldn’t create account as it says “The Immigrant Visa case number provided is not ready to schedule an appointment”.
If you manage to create the account, let me know the reason behind please.
Dear Brit,
Do we need to enter the case number removing the three 0’s like the case in checking the ceac system?
Thanks!
March 30, 2017 at 16:08
Hi again Begizew,
I find something useful here
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/627165-case-not-ready-to-schedule/
Seems like we have to wait for a couple of days although the case displays it is ready.
Again, if you want to keep in ouch let’s exchange emails or Skype id so that we can communicate almost in real time.
I hope this could be useful for you Simon as well.
Nicola
March 30, 2017 at 16:14
Nicola, il nostro caso è “ready” ora.. ma ancora non permette di registrarci. ho letto che comunque non è il caso di preoccuparsi, per ora è normale… boh

Again. It is not necessary to get an appointment from that system. Register the appointment you already have if you can BUT AT LEAST create the account. The account will allow the delivery of documents. That is all you actually need.

Not ready yet, I guess I have to wait again, although CEAC displays “Ready”. How about you, Begizew?

I am in the same situation as you are.
Let’s wait, maybe it is really a matter of time. After all, everybody had to pass from here.

Hello Simon,
Please help me. I received my 2nl letter yesterday and I am scheduled mid-may. I am the only person in the dv case but I plan to marry my boyfriend in may, So I want to know if I can postpone my interview date and, if I can open and add my boyfriend to the DS260?
Thank you very much
March 29, 2017 at 20:50
You waited until you got the 2NL to decide to get married??? It is technically possible – but it will cause a long delay and some risk. You would have to contact the embassy to discuss it. If you are going to get married, get married NOW.
March 29, 2017 at 20:56
Thank you for you reply.
By long delay how many months will it take do you think?
Will it be possible that the new DS260 will be processed and we will get an interview date before the 30 september 2017?
March 29, 2017 at 21:22
I don’t know how long the delay would be – it is variable.

Hi Brit
AF11XXX submitted DS260 in July and then unlocked and submitted again on November and I got my 2NL and interview on May 8 in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. But currently I am still in Eritrea, so is it ok if I postpone my interview date to June or July. Thanks
March 29, 2017 at 23:46
You can try. Rescheduling introduces a risk – but that’s your choice.
March 29, 2017 at 23:54
What risks can happen; sorry would you please give me some examples. Thank you
March 30, 2017 at 03:16
Rescheduling causes delays, cases toward the end of the year may not have enough time if any additional background checks area needed.
