Hello Brit sir goodmorning from nepal
i am DV winner 2020 i submit my ds260 and kcc review my ds260 they mail 1ST Aug for submit to scan copy of doc. but in this time i found one mistake in my ds260 is Education address of institution : State/ province – Bagmati insted of Lumbeni. so plz suggest me need to unlock to ds260 and correct this or not.
My case no. 2020AS00020XX.
yours
August 4, 2019 at 14:29
I don’t think that needs to be corrected.
August 4, 2019 at 02:49
Hi sir
My question is currently i have completed my degree but in our country i have failed G.C.E Advanced level which was the high school diploma. But i have sat for the examination and achieved my transcript (but failed) so do i need to still include it under Educational institute in DS260?
August 4, 2019 at 14:30
Yes.
Your fails could also lead to problems with approval, even though you went on to obtain a degree.
August 4, 2019 at 14:39
Maybe sir, but i hope to qualifed to the program through work experience so is it still will be a major issue?
August 4, 2019 at 14:57
So do you have work experience at the required level? How does your job compare to O*Net?
August 4, 2019 at 15:02
Yes sir it meets the required SVP range and Job zone
August 4, 2019 at 15:01
And another thing sir, my country was sri lanka and it has two G.C.E examinations one was GCE Ordinary Level and other one was GCE Advanced Level.
As your article about qualification it is mention a website US high school equals, So in there my country it will equal to G.C.E Ordinary Level which i already completed and passed successfully. But embassy check list our consular center requires G.C.E Advanced level certificate(they did not mention applicant must pass) not the G.C.E Ordinary level one.
So based on my scenario what about your thoughts sir?
August 4, 2019 at 15:15
I have given you my thoughts. I cannot predict the outcome in your case.
August 6, 2019 at 08:15
Hi Yohi,
Pleaser refer this response from the US Embassy Sri Lanka to a question on Sunday Times:
“The minimum educational requirement is the successful completion of three GCE A-level subjects (not including General English) or a Bachelor’s Degree.”

August 6, 2019 at 17:27
Thanks for posting that – their answers on all three questions were excellent.
August 4, 2019 at 06:55
I have one more question, several years ago my 10 years visa was cancelled without prejudice, and I was also given 214B paper, will it have any affect?
August 4, 2019 at 14:35
No
August 4, 2019 at 07:26
Hi Brit. First of all, thanks for all the effort you have put into this, it was very helpfull.
Question: IF I have stated on DS260 (filled in on 31th July) that Iam currently employed, but in fact I have left that job 3 weeks ago, would you recommend to unlock DS260 and correct that ? I have masters degree in business and qualify even without a work experience. (DV2020 entrant)
August 4, 2019 at 14:35
No need to unlock for every job change.
August 4, 2019 at 07:37
Has anyone with low case numbers in DV2020 received the e-mail from KCC asking them to send their scanned documents yet?
August 4, 2019 at 14:36
Yes
August 6, 2019 at 17:43

August 6, 2019 at 18:01
Want to clarify that????
August 6, 2019 at 20:25
Want to clarify what
August 6, 2019 at 20:35
Try one last time.
” it keep bringing the code” is meaningless. What problem are you having?
August 4, 2019 at 08:19
Dear simon my case no 25*** my interview was July 23 I don’t know what is the new rule according to their requirement I just give them the genuine documents I told them as I’m student but she give meh one white paper which says which doesn’t meet education and work experience based on article 212 refused I don’t what is the rule the embassy said you have to finish grade 12 but I just finish grade 12 and I’m 3rd year student in degree program please simon if you have any information about it help me
August 4, 2019 at 14:39
You must have failed some some subjects in grade 12 which the embassy considered part of the minimum requirement. That isn’t a new rule – that has always been the case.
What were your year 12 subjects/grades and what embassy was it?
August 5, 2019 at 03:36
Addis Abeba embassy Ethiopia
August 5, 2019 at 03:42

August 5, 2019 at 04:16

August 5, 2019 at 17:14
I can’t help. You aren’t listening, or answering my questions, so I don’t know why you were refused, but they obviously had reason to refuse you. Their decisions cannot be appealed.
August 4, 2019 at 16:57
Am kenyan citizen but have ethiopian high school I want to change this certificate to kenyan system of education to be change to kenyan high school in ur oppinion as dv expert can course a problem ? Or am not changed to .
August 4, 2019 at 17:21
Oh Adan, respectfully, you are one of the most confused people that has ever been asking questions here. Top 10 ever. Based on all the wild variations of questions you have asked since 2017, and all the case numbers you have claimed to be yours, it is obvious that you are asking for other people. It horrifies me that other people are looking to you to get answers, when simple explanations consistently elude you. I REALLY think it’s time to tell the people you help to just come here and ask their questions.
August 4, 2019 at 19:30
Hello Brit, I have sent ds-260 but I am worrying because I have Instagram account that I was using in 2018 and stopped using it this year is there a problem if I didn’t included it I wrote that I only use facebook thank you so much
August 4, 2019 at 20:02
If I were you I would unlock and correct that.
August 4, 2019 at 20:42
Hello,
I have a question regarding PARIS EMBASSY and would like some advice from Simon or selectees who have been interviewed there.
I read at different sources that french documents were accepted at this embassy.
But now that I am preparing my interview, the check list asks for original birth certificate, english translation and a photocopy.
My questions are:
did they really check the english translation ?
what organism did you use for the translation?
can I use an online assermented translator ?
Thank you for your help.
August 4, 2019 at 22:28
You can present documents in French or English at the Paris embassy. The rules are clear about that – but you have to read them…
August 4, 2019 at 20:57
Hello I have a question. My husband’s US immigrant Visa has been issued to him (thanks to God) but now I’m confused as to the immigrant visa fee that has to be paid b4 or after he enters the US. Is there a separate fee that he has to pay to obtain the GC? And can he do that after he arrives here or must that be done b4 he can exit the UAE. US embassy in UAE requires that the IV fee be paid before exiting but I am confused….is the IV fee the $575 dollar fee we paid on ceac b4 filling the ds 260 or is there a separate fee that has to be paid upon receiving the immigrant Visa? Please help! My husband is due to land in a couple of weeks.
August 4, 2019 at 22:23
Simon
Hope you answer soon, are there paying any fee before filling DS260? Because I didn’t
August 4, 2019 at 22:33
No fees for filing the DS260.
August 4, 2019 at 22:31
It’s really important you clearly describe YOUR scenario.
The normal fees at $330 paid at the embassy on interview day, then $220 paid before or after entering.
August 5, 2019 at 00:18
He didnt pay anything on the day of the interview but he did present his receipt of paying on ceac for the Aos fee and IV fee.
August 5, 2019 at 00:40
Right – so you did a different process – which is confusing to others.
August 5, 2019 at 01:07
We followed the procedure as per the abu dhabi embassy…
August 4, 2019 at 22:34

August 4, 2019 at 23:23

August 4, 2019 at 23:53
Good evening sir
My uncle was selected for 2020 and i assist him finalized his documents properly.
So In DS260, do myself include to “did anyone assist you to filling this application?” Is it can be a negatively affect for his case?
August 4, 2019 at 23:56
It’s no problem.
August 4, 2019 at 23:58
Hello sir
Im Moroccan but currently living in a Saudi arabia for my work! Getting a certificate police from here! It takes a lot of days waiting! And that’s not the case! The probleme is that when i tried to get my wife’s certicate police they asked me that we can’t give it to you, your wife must be her so we can give it to her because she is the mean one!… But My wife she went back to Morocco 5 years ago and it is impossible for me to get her documents so we can send them both to KCC , i have read that if i couldn’t get a document i should make an explanation or something like that but i have no idea how does this work , please Mr Simon would you tell me how to deal with this situation!!
Looking to hear from you.

August 5, 2019 at 00:44
1. Read the rules/instructions including the reciprocity page.
2. See 1.
August 5, 2019 at 00:09
Dear Simon,
I have been selected for the DV2020 Lottery.
I meet the education and work requirements, but I made a mistake in my initial entry, placing the country of chargeability to OC instead of EU.
I have Australian Nationality but born in Italy from Italian parents.
I submitted my DS260 and the relevant documentation.
I read only recently about 9 FAM 42.33 N4.3 Errors in Choice of Country of Chargeability.
I have 3 questions given that my disqualification is likely :
1) Is it worth continuing the process (medical+interview)? Does the word “generally” in the FAM allow exceptions?
2) Is there any way to withdraw from the process to avoid consequences on future application for Visas (i.e. ESTA for
holiday trips and non-migrant visas for work)? I am considering writing to USCIS or to the Embassy where I will be
interviewed.
Thanks for your time and attention,
Kind regards,
Frank
August 5, 2019 at 00:43
You already asked this – and I already answered.
1. Denial is certain UNLESS you were married at the time of entry to someone from OC region.
2. You cannot withdraw the DS260. The local embassy will not know anything about your case.

I have submitted DS260 but I haven’t added one of my temporary addresses that stayed in less than 2 months. But that address I used for my marriage certificate because that time I was staying in that address. is that any problem?
August 5, 2019 at 00:48
Well it seems a bit daft to provide a certificate with that address but not have listed that address.

August 5, 2019 at 02:31
Hello brit help please.
I filled ds-260 and made a couple of errors.
1. Error
The birthplace of the mother wrote another city.
2. Error
I wrote the old address of my father.
3. Question
Does the mother’s surname need to be written as a girl or the one that is now on the passport? I wrote the one now.
4. Question
I found the address in America from a stranger tour agent, and besides me, a couple more people wrote this address, will this not be a problem?
Please tell me these are serious mistakes?
I would be very grateful for the answer.
August 5, 2019 at 04:13
1 to 3 are no problem.
Number 4 means your Green Card will be delivered to that stranger – pretty silly. Change that.
August 5, 2019 at 03:19

Dear BritSimon, I am going to fill up my Ds260 form but I have question about the highest education level. I have got a bachelor degree. Then after some years I have got a postgraduate diploma ( one year), so what can I choose ( university degree, advanced degree or other )
August 5, 2019 at 04:53
It doesn’t matter. Choose.
August 5, 2019 at 05:03
Sorry sir, what do you mean? Can Postgraduate diploma be advanced degree ? And any way I should write ( No. 3 ) in how many institutions, is that ok ?
August 5, 2019 at 05:09
The question is unimportant. Just choose and answer the number of institutions accurately.
August 5, 2019 at 05:22
Thank you so much ? for helping
August 5, 2019 at 05:51
When is the application for DV2021?where can I get the original link?
August 5, 2019 at 16:43
October. https://dvlottery.state.gov
August 6, 2019 at 14:37
Thanks
So there are payments to be done while filling the form?
August 6, 2019 at 17:53
No
August 5, 2019 at 07:01
Dear Brit,
I am trying to fill ds260 and I have one question. I am planning to make my father friend(not close friend) us a sponsor and he agreed but I didn’t know him that much but I met him once. So is it possible to make him sponsor b/c we didn’t have that much relationship with me?
August 5, 2019 at 16:43
That is possible, but somewhat risky.
August 5, 2019 at 16:55
What are the risks??
August 5, 2019 at 19:30
The risk is that they don’t accept that this near stranger will support you so they determine you don’t have financial support. That could mean delay while you provide other proof, or even denial.
August 5, 2019 at 07:31
Hi Simon.
Case number: Case No: 2020EU25X2
Completed DS260 on 24.06. What are the next steps?
1. I need to wait for instructions e-mail from KCC
2. An e-mail with an interview date information
Is it too late after step 2. to change marital status to married?
Is my case number low or high or too early to tell?
August 5, 2019 at 17:00
You will next get an email to submit documents. If you plan to marry you should DELAY submitting documents in order to delay your interview. Then you can marry and add your new spouse to your DS260 and add a DS260 for her/him.
August 5, 2019 at 10:18
Hello sir, please tell me if there was a severe reason for the refusal, the consul would refuse, or … He gave a yellow sheet to send in embussy a transletion of one dock, and said that he didn’t refuse and gives us a chance, do you think they will approve or reject?
August 5, 2019 at 17:16
I have no way to know the outcome of your case.
August 5, 2019 at 10:31
Hi Mr Brit,
I am a Sri lankan citizen currently working in Singapore. I have a case number of 2020AS14XXX. According to your predictions, If I am lucky I will have my visa interview scheduled around March or April.
My Problem is; Does the embassy take my passport if i were to grant the visa? If they are holding the passport, how long will it be (average time) ?
Because I need to go back to Singapore for my job. Untill I am eligible to move to USA, I thought of working in Singapore.
Please answer as per your knowledge.
Thanks in advance.
August 5, 2019 at 17:22
They normally return the passport a week or two after the interview. You can discuss that at the interview and make arrangements for travel needs etc.

Hello Brit
I paid my GC fee on 28 of July without making an account on the USCIS website? is that wrong? I mean, I clicked on Pay the Green card fee (something like that) and it asked for my A number and DOC case number, I entered that and then it asked for the payer information (a friend of mine) he completed all the requirements and at the end it showed that I have successfully paid $220. My question is, did I make a mistake for not creating an account, or it is okay like this?
August 5, 2019 at 19:07
It’s OK.
August 5, 2019 at 12:04
Hello! I would like to express my appreciation on behalf of the whole seekers you help so much. Your job is amazing.
There are two questions which bother me very much:
1) I won the DV2020 and I am a main applicant and I used fresh photo when applied to the lottery draw, but I used the old ones for my wife and son (3 years old now) which I used in the lottery dv2018? I am going to use recent photos (certainly) in DS-260. Will the old photos I used in lottery be the reason for disqualification?
2) I have a B1 visa. When I applied on it (ds-160) one year ago I indicated incorrect dates for one of my previous job, because as I was advised I should shorten the periods of unemployment to not impress counselor as unreliable person. I do regret about it now, because I am confused what dates to indicate in the ds-260 – the same as I used in ds-160 or the correct ones? I am scared I can be disqualified if indicate the real ones which will not be consistent with my previous ds-160 information.
Could you please give me an advice, sir?
August 5, 2019 at 19:10
1. That is a risk, but a minor one. Your son will obviously have changed greatly in 2 years so it will be obvious that you did not follow instructions. All you can do is be truthful (IF asked).
2. Tell the truth now.
August 5, 2019 at 12:16
Hello Brit, I am a DV2020 winner, do i have to get a US sponsor even if i can show enough funds for my self ?

Possibly.

August 5, 2019 at 19:13
No, wait to be asked. You have missed the October interviews, but will be scheduled for a later month as soon as possible. Just wait for further instructions.
August 5, 2019 at 15:16
Hello Simon,
my wife and I are waiting for the ssn. On DS260 form we accepted to get the SSN.
We paid all the fees before getting here in NY.
We made our first entry July 11th but we didn’t receive the Social Security Number yet.
Last week I called the SSA to know if they’ve already generated our numbers. Nothing, neither in their systems.
I check our status on Uscis website and it has been accepted (july 14th).
Should I go to Uscis or SSA office in person and check?
August 5, 2019 at 19:16
Go to the SSA office.
August 5, 2019 at 21:50
Yeah, I agree with you.
Thanks a lot!
August 5, 2019 at 15:27
Hello, I won D260 2019.I have finished filling the forms . Do I have to send my documents to KCC or wait till I get a notification?
August 5, 2019 at 19:16
Wait until they ask for documents.
August 5, 2019 at 16:21
Hello Simon
what you think about this issue.
I had interview with my wife in 7 April in us embassy kabul and . I got 1 update in 22 April after that I got another update in 22 jully and they called me to follow up interview. Due to wedding proof. And we correctly and ssuccessfully passed and I asked from them about my process they said you ap is done. But still I did not get any update. And my case status shows ap.

Hi Brit Simon,
2020AF15xx..am just filling my DS 260
1. Am I late for October interviews?
2. I noticed I misspelt one of my kids name
..does it pose any problem?
Kindly.
August 5, 2019 at 19:50
1. Yes – you will get a later interview month.
2. No – just make sure it is correct in the DS260.
August 5, 2019 at 20:09
Thank you Simon ?

CN: 2020EU6***
I already have enough money in the bank , but i am looking for more preparation as Simon always says and i don’t prefer to involve any sponsor in the process as he needs to apply fine details about his income , real estate etc and many people wont like that.
so Is it frequently that consulars at CAIRO embassy ask about the I-134 ???
August 5, 2019 at 19:32
Hi, I am DV2020 selectee. I suddenly freaked out right now. I started filling my DS 260 form couple of weeks ago. Then I decided to leave it for a while to finish and submit it later. So my form is still open at the moment, I want to submit it later, maybe in 1-2 weeks, is that a problem? my case number is EU44***. Thanks
August 5, 2019 at 19:52
No problem. Chill out!
August 5, 2019 at 20:26
May I ask you another question regarding the address where I intend to live? Can this be changed before or after interview? This is a very tricky question for me, I know where I may stay in the beginning for 1-2 months and where I want my Green Card mailed. But things may change before I actually go to the USA. Is that a problem? I am DV2020EU44***
August 5, 2019 at 20:30
You can change it at the interview, or you can usually change it at the POE (port of entry).
August 5, 2019 at 20:08
Dear britt,
We made it and are here in the US. We won the lottery last year and our entrance went smooth.
We only have one week here in the states and are wedding for our green cards to arrive. In the meanwhile I have an interview in a different state where we have settled. Will it be OK to travel by plain with my passport showing my visa only? As we don’t have drivers license or local id’s yet. My husband is the main applicant and we all entered together.
Thanks a lot
August 5, 2019 at 20:27
Yes, no problem.
August 6, 2019 at 00:12
Hi Britt,
Do I need to unlock the DS 260 because I did not put the zeros in the case number at the time of submitting the form?
Case: 2020SA4XX
Thank you
August 6, 2019 at 00:57
No!
August 6, 2019 at 00:24
Hey Simon, how are you? Looks like I’ve jumped the gun and sent my documents before getting the 2nl. Is that a problem? I was going to try to email you direct, however, I thought there may be others who have done this and your answer might help them also. Thanks mate ?
August 6, 2019 at 00:58
You would not get the 2NL if you don’t submit documents, but you are best to wait until you have been asked for them. The timing of that depends on your case number.
August 6, 2019 at 01:03
Gee, you’re quick off the mark. Thank you. cn: 2020OC4**
I read all you say and still I get it bloody wrong. Fair dinkum mate.
August 6, 2019 at 01:23
OK – so your case number is fairly low. If you submitted your DS260 prior to July I would expect KCC to email you for documents pretty soon – BUT they may have been satisfied with what you sent them. You can contact them to ask them whether your documents were satisfactory.
August 6, 2019 at 02:05
Right
Thank you ?
August 6, 2019 at 01:47
Sir,
Last year someone told me they approved their visas at Dakar but the embassy told them to make réservation because they will only have a visas valid for two weeks, but I denied. But today I saw someone his visa has been printed in JULY 23rd and the expire date is on september.

The visa expiry date is set as 6 months after the medical. No mystery, not embassy specific.

Hi Brit.
CN: OC207*
I’m aware that’s a high yet safe case number for my region but I’d like to ask one thing. You see, I’ve completed & submitted my ds260 on 11 July 2019 and got an email from KCC for further dv docs on 1 Aug 2019. Since I’ve got a high case number and it most probably won’t be current till next year, do you think i should wait till later then submit my docs?
August 6, 2019 at 03:27
Yes
August 6, 2019 at 05:44
Dear Brit
Pls advise, I went to another job after i had submitted ds-260, thats why a new job record is not reflected in the form. Should i unlock or leave it as it is?
August 6, 2019 at 17:18
No need to unlock for that if you expect your interview soon.

Hello Brit
My BF is 2020 DV winner, AF29***. He had changed his name while he was 18, after High school before college(Legally with court documentation). But he didn’t mention about changing his name when he filled DS260.
1.Will it be problem not filling the old name on DS-260?
2. Is it “OK” if he take the court documentation attached with educational documents during interview?
3. if it’s not “OK ” what shall he do?
August 6, 2019 at 17:20
1. No its not OK.
2. That will be required.
3. Unlock the DS260 and use the field “other names used”. Do that ASAP as NOT doing that could invalidate the background check.

Hey Brit, thanks so much for the good work (advice) you give us.
Brit, am a DV2020 winner, case no. AF28XX, I submitted my DS260 but on filling my supervisors name, the computer wasn’t accepting his first name but giving options.
Is it too late to ask KCC to unlock so i can try to make corrections or
Please advise. Thanks
August 6, 2019 at 17:28
No it’s not too late – although from what you said I would not bother to unlock for just a supervisors name.

Hi Brit please am Dv 2020 winner with case number of 2020AF16**. I have submitted my ds 260 and had reply to submit my passport details, police report and birth certificate as my documents , I also included my wife’s email since it was also required when submitting the form. Now the question is should I add my wife’s documents as well or she will also have to wait to have her turn since I gave out her email address.
How long should I take to submit those documents.
We appreciate enormously the good work you have been doing for mankind .
God bless you abundantly.
Regards
Am Charles

You have to supply the documents for yourself AND derivatives. Please read the instructions in the letter – it is very clear.
