Hi Brit,
A relative of mine I am helping with DV Case Nr. AF45xxx got his 2NL (him & wife)_July 30th for interview in 1st half September.
Discovered that both their birth certificates had typos (Mother’s surname not correct for the wife; Father’s name should be none- but had an initial for the husband). Aside these, no other errors were found to be in variance with DS260 info already submitted. Parents of husband and wife are dead (except wife’s mother).
Q.1. Is this any issue to be worried about?
Q.2. If there is anything to do (like affidavit or smth) to make it right?
Thank you.

Father’s middle name should be none (Husband)*

Hi Brit,
I am trying to understand police clearance requirement for Iranians with dual citizenship.
When I narrow down to “Reciprocity by Country” and check Iran that is what I found:
Police Certificates
Available
Comments: Available but unreliable. Police records are not required for immigrant visa applicants because posts cannot verify them. Clean record certificates can be obtained in Iran or from Iranian Embassies and Consulates, and the physical appearance of the certificate changes significantly depending on which authority issued it.
So my interpretation from the statement above is: police clearance is not required even though I lived in Iran more than 30 years.
Am I correct?
August 1, 2019 at 03:53
For Iran, correct. That has nothing to do with your dual citizenship, it has to do with Iran and the poor record keeping. That does not mean you are exempt from providing other police certs for other countries.
Please also realize that this is one of the reasons AP for Iranian cases is common and lengthy. It can take around 6 months to clear and Iranian case, even one that is able to get around the ban. So – a person with a high case number needs to realize the risks of not being cleared in time.
August 1, 2019 at 14:02
Thanks for detailed answer and i assume submitting police clearance from iran does not speed up the project either?!

Hi brit can you describe about child status protection act ? because i rejected due to my kid born after entry and not add into ds -260 form? i.age of infants should appear during interview ? thanks for quick answer
August 1, 2019 at 03:56
Oh my. You have asked me about this so many times. I have answered you MANY times. This is the last time.
Your refusal has NOTHING to do with the CSPA. You were refused because you:
1. Did not follow the correct procedure.
2. Did not convince the CO you or your documents were trustworthy.

Hi Brit,
I’m a selectee from Asia for DV2020. I have few questions while working on DS260.
1) My Address include ‘/’ like 130/23B. But DS260 doesn’t allow to enter ‘/’. Is It ok if I use any Other allowed symbol for that. like 130-23B?
2) When we choose ‘No’ for the received vaccination question, It asks the explanation. What kind of explanation are the expecting here?
Thank you
August 1, 2019 at 13:28
1. That’s OK.
2. Anything you like. It is not important.
August 1, 2019 at 06:47
Hi Brit, again..
I used the address of my relative’s home as my address in the marriage certificate. I was never lived there permanently and Used that address to reduce some paper works during the marriage registration process in my country. (In my country if the district of your registration place differs from the district of your permanent address, you have to do some additional document works. To avoid that we are used an address within registration district). Is it going to be OK ? If not OK, what if I add that address into my previous addresses list?
August 1, 2019 at 13:29
I don’t know – you’ll have to decide for yourself.
August 5, 2019 at 02:23
Hi Yasa,
I also faced same issue when the registration time. Did you update that address to ds 260?
August 1, 2019 at 07:25
Hi BritSimon,
I think you missed my question in this thread. No worries, I will simplify my it not to waste your time.
So, USCIS has my friends address on file (the one I put into DS-260). I made an endorsement 2-day trip to the US and confirmed my friend’s address at POE. I want all the documents before my move (which should happen in 2-3 months) to be sent to this friend’s address, and I will arrive at this address when I move. Moreover, it’s my only address in the US currently (because I have just one close friend there). In these circumstances, should I update USCIS explicitly that I am out of the US now, telling them my foreign address, or I do nothing with USCIS currently, arrive at my friend’s place in a couple of months, and only when I move to another, my own flat, I should file an AR-11.
I think the latter one, but probably I don’t know something, so I just want to ensure. Thanks!
Best,
Max
August 1, 2019 at 13:31
Serious overthinking here.
The latter.

Hi Simon Sir
If someone held more than one title in same company for the past 5 years do they need to list them all in DS260 under previous work experience? or the latest hold job title only?
Thank u sir

Okay sir, and one question again same applying to my education,
If a person completed his high school and advanced level (G.C.E A-Level in our country) in same college do we need to mention high school diploma and duplicate the same college name? because highest achievement in that school is Advanced level. is it enough to mention Advanced level?
August 1, 2019 at 20:50
That’s fine.
August 2, 2019 at 00:42
And my last question sir. please help.
I have completed my high school and diploma and A-Level in same college, as you said, if i’m add only the A-Level on DS260 do we need add both (high school & A-Level period) the duration under “date of attendance from” and “date of attendance to”?
Please help us sir.

Use your own judgement. It’s not a trick question.
August 1, 2019 at 10:26
Sir i got an AP, because lack of proofing relationship, they Ask me to email them Proof of Text conversations for the last few years, i already did email them.
So are they going to give me final result by email or by phone or i check my status at ceac?
August 1, 2019 at 14:01
I don’t know how they will operate in your particular case.
August 1, 2019 at 14:35
so should i call them tomorrow asking if they’ve received my email about Proof of Relationship or wait them to reply? Because i think they won’t write you’re approved from email right? Did you have someone share their experience like that?

Hi Simon,
DV2020 OC17XX – based in Australia.
I recently submitted my DS260 and have been asked to send documents, but am yet to do that.
I’ve just found out that I have to go to USA for a few days for work with my current employer at the end of this month. A couple of questions:
1. Will I need to unlock my DS260 and update with these trip dates under my USA travel history?
2. (this may be hard to answer as it might be Australia specific) When the person who organises my work trip sorts out my temp visa for August, will it come up that I’m under application for another USA visa?
Thanks in advance,
Kim
August 1, 2019 at 14:03
1. Not essential. They will know at interview anyway.
2. Possibly. If you are interviewed for the working visa you may want to carry proof of “connections” to home that show you have reason to return.
August 1, 2019 at 12:08
Hi bri I’m winner of dv2020 my case number is AF 70*** and i was fill ds 260
what do you advice me has it chance

Hopefully.
August 1, 2019 at 13:33
Hi Brit!
I have been selected for dv lottery 2020, with case number 27XXX in Eu.
I am engaged with a boy and we want to marry because we love each other and we want to start a live together there in America.
I sent my ds260 in May, and I put “single” on marital status ,
1) if we will marry can I edit it without problems ? Or can they think that is a fake marriage?
2) if your answer is “ yes, you can marry him without problems”, when we should do it? Months before? Or it’a okay also around January ?
Thank u so much!

Hi
if your visa is refused, motif ( S A non chargeability) I want to know if I have another chance for visa?
August 1, 2019 at 20:13
There is no appeal process. If your case was refused because you chose the wrong country of chargeability there would be no grounds for an appeal anyway.
August 1, 2019 at 16:26
Excuse me ,was my question unclear?
August 1, 2019 at 16:54
Hit Brit. I spent my interview since April 1 and after several waiting, the visa was not issued to me because I checked my status is “Refused”. Today the embassy called me to inform myself to present myself at the embassy on August 20, 2019. 1) Is it possible for the CO to change my status by August 20 by issuing me the visa? 2) Do I activate by writing them to find out why they refused me?
Ambassy : Abidjan
August 1, 2019 at 20:24
Normally, updates to refused are final. I don’t know what will happen in your particular case.
August 1, 2019 at 18:22
Thanks
August 1, 2019 at 20:22
Is there a limit to the number of previous addresses one should fill in the ds 260? I have been trying to fill 15 addresses but the system does not accept, what should I do?
August 3, 2019 at 17:51
Be more selective in the address you list. Make sure they are ones where you lived, not just short term ones.
August 1, 2019 at 22:21
Dear Simon,
Your website is a mine of info, thanks!
My number is EU52xxx. I might therefore be called in for an interview in July 2020.
Do I need to unlock and update my DS-260:
a) – to update my work information? I’ve resigned from my main job and my last day of employment will be August 31st, 2019. I will continue to work at my second job. I’ve previously entered both jobs in the Work Info section of the DS-260 form. It is very likely that I’ll get one or more temporary other jobs from September until the time of my interview. Do I need to unlock and update the form every time?
b) – if I move country? I am thinking to move back to France at the beginning of 2020 after 15 years in the UK (and hopefully prior to moving to the USA). Please note that I chose to have my interview at the American Embassy in Paris.
c) I am contemplating travelling in Asia (Thailand & Japan) in April, May & June 2020, purchasing an open return flight ticket to return to France earlier if required. Can I book my medical appointment prior to receiving my 2NL so I know everything is in order for my interview even if I flight back a few days before the scheduled date?
d) Let’s keep pretending I have my interview in July. Providing that everything goes well, I understand that I’ll be granted an immigration visa allowing me to move to the US three months after my interview at the earliest possible date. However I ideally would like to attend a one year Music Course in the US starting in September 2020 (Fellowship, no student visa required). If I don’t get my immigration visa on time to be allowed to move to the States by September 2020, would it be in option to enter the States as a tourist prior to receiving my green card so I don’t miss the beginning of the course?
I understand that this scenario is based on a hypothetical interview date but I would like to be as prepared as possible.
Thank you ever so much for your help.
Kind regards,
Claire
August 2, 2019 at 05:38
a. You can unlock and correct next year, nearer the time.
b. Then you would need to unlock and correct the address, PLUS tell KCC to set your interview for Paris (they will ignore your earlier request and base it on your UK address.
c. Maybe. It’s up to the physician, but you won’t be able to be exact about timing, so it’s probably a bad idea.
d. You have some things mixed up. You can enter the USA the day after you get your visa.
Please read the FAQ, and PLEASE keep questions short and on point.
August 15, 2019 at 14:59
Dear Simon,
Thank you very much for your replies – very helpful!
e) Would applying for a P3 Visa now to be able to attend a one year part-time Music Course in the US starting in Autumn 2019 (Fellowship, no student visa required) be an option for me? Do I have any chance to get the P3 Visa without compromising my Green Card application process?
Many thanks.
Best wishes,
Claire
August 15, 2019 at 17:27
e. The P3 application will not affect the DV application, but your chance of approval on the P3 has been reduced because of your DS260 submission.
August 15, 2019 at 20:34
Thank you, Simon.
e) If I get my P3 visa, move to Hawaii, update KCC with my new address, will I be able to book my medical appointment in Hawaii and ask KCC to schedule my DV-Lottery interview in Hawaii?
Many thanks,
Claire
August 16, 2019 at 03:04
You must be VERY careful doing that. I don’t know specifically about the P3 but I imagine it is not a “dual intent” visa. In that case, entering the USA with intention to try and immigrate could cause you to be disqualified. So – depending on timing etc that could be a really bad idea.

Regarding DS260
I have completed my bachelors degree in 2016 in data science. So i hope to answer the following question as below.
Course of study – Data Science
Degree or diploma received – bsc(hons) in data science

August 2, 2019 at 14:56
Yes
August 2, 2019 at 05:55
Hi BritSimon, I was wondering if a mistake in past entries can have an impact on our current win. In 2014, we had gone with my boyfriend to apply for a green card in a cyber. The attendant advised us that it was better we apply as a married couple to better increase our chances. We never won and we broke up afterwards. I am now married and my husband is the principal applicant. Would the 2014 application be an issue?
August 2, 2019 at 14:27
Possibly yes. Lies are not good.
August 2, 2019 at 07:18
Should we fill ds-260 school info on native language exactly as on high school diploma or on english translated?
August 2, 2019 at 14:29

Hi Brit,
What do you think of CN 2020AF41XXX. Is it a good number to apply for.
I have not filled the DS260 yet. I want to marry my fiancee and add her along with my 3 month old son.
August 2, 2019 at 14:30
The number is fine. Marry – then add both derivatives and submit your DS260s.
August 2, 2019 at 09:30
Sir how Do they approve from AP? is it suddenly change to issued without informing us or they will send email or call?
I’m asking *mostly

Hi, Simon
My case number is 2020 AF62XXX.
I am in a serious relationship and planning to marry my boyfriend probably this coming December. I summited my DS260 in June, as “single” on marital status.
Could this poses a challenged (as disqualification) if I latter include him (as a derivative) by unlocking my DS260.
Thanks
August 2, 2019 at 14:43
No. Read the FAQ.
August 2, 2019 at 11:52
After reading a thread on immigration forum I need to check the following with you (I asked a DS260 question before):
My CN: DV2020 EU29XXX
I won DV but I was eligible through my wife’s country. My country is not eligible anymore.
I am a F1 Phd candidate in US and my wife have been living with me in US under her F2. Both of our status has always been valid and both our visa is until 2024. Hence we meet the criteria for AOS but one of the thread stated that she is not eligible for AOS, can you please clarify.
1. As I have the case number and my wife is my derivative, hence how can we both apply for AOS?
2. Does my wife needs to apply through CP and come to US and then I apply for AOS?
August 2, 2019 at 14:47
1. That is normal. Follow the instructions on Mom’s spreadsheet.
2. No. She can adjust AND since your chargeability depends on her, she should process with you.
August 2, 2019 at 14:44

Dear Sir
I’m a selectee from DV2020 for further processing. but i’m struggling with my current living locations because i have two physical locations. one was my permanent address(as my passport contains) and second one was a rented anex for my educational purposes. so here is the summary.
Permanent Address – Galle, Sri Lanka (lives in friday to sunday)
Rented Address – Negombo, Sri Lanka (lives in monday to thursday)
When filling the DS260, i have added my permanent address as Galle and was been there since 2006 now. then after i have add another section for add my rented address details. i have marked it date of living from 2014 to 2019 with respective months and when trying to save the sectional updates it occurs a error indicating invalid date range. I think it was happen because of overlapping the time.
What am i do now sir? how i add rented address in my DS260? is it necessary? please let me know your thoughts in detail.
Thank You and GOD bless you.
August 2, 2019 at 20:11
Use the Permanent Address
August 3, 2019 at 01:03

August 3, 2019 at 16:50
So one another question sir, so in my case do i need to take police certificate by indicating all the lived and living places right? so is it can be a matter for KCC when i have entered only my present home address in DS260 without entering my hired anex details?
Looking forward a reply for this too sir because i should over prepared..

Good morning Simon. Have a pregnant woman access to some kind of healthcare coverage for her and her baby till and after birth? I read something about the CHIP Perinatal program but i’m not sure about how it works.
Maybe some states give better options than others about this matter, i appreciate any suggestion or eventual links.
Thank you
August 2, 2019 at 19:36
Sorry i forgot to mention, immediately after the first entry before getting the physical green card. Thank you

Hi Simon one of my friends won dv 2020i he lives in Saudi Arabia by mistake he field country chargabilty Saudi Arabia but he is from Eritrea ?
August 3, 2019 at 00:28
Depending on the circumstances that cause mean denial. I suggests he/she comes and explains the scenario.
August 3, 2019 at 09:53
Far to know the situation I am quit sure he did with the intention to lie because some people are doing it here in Guinea, the guy put FSC Europe instead AF.
Because while entering you have two part first you fill the first and then the second you check before you submit, and I am wondering how you he can mistake with AS AND AF knowing Saudia is not similar To Eritrea. S if different To E. I know someone he entered the lottery with born on October 16, 1991; after winning he pretended it is error his real date of birth is May 05, 1995. Now how can someone made such error?
I think it is people made the Département of State tightened this lottery. Before at Dakar when they ask for High school diploma you just present the paper the consular just watch through the class(the man who witness is already in us since 2008 and he was a winner) they were not checking but people continue to provide fake document this is why now it is easy.
Sorry bro, but I think we are responsible
August 2, 2019 at 23:42
Hi Brit
Thanks for your good work
My daughter has been selected for DV2020 her case number is AF41xxx she has completed DS-260 form and sent to KCC early May 2019.
Her passport was valid untill year 2012 she used the number of this passport
in her DS-260 since it was still valid, however the Kenyan government recently published a new rule phasing out the old passport and required everyone to apply for digital e-passport, she already been issued with the new passport while the old passport was cancelled but returned to her.
My question is since she used her old passport number in her DV lottery form and in DS-260 would her new passport number create a problem or became an issue for her Not to be granted visa ?? (though she also has her old “cancelled” passport as well) .
Your comments will be highly appreciated.
Fred.
August 3, 2019 at 00:29
No problem.
August 3, 2019 at 03:07
Does KCC sends document(s) submission mail on the basis of submission of DS-260 or randomly or according to case number? (I have found that people with low case number than me have not received document submission request yet but I have already received and verified by KCC.) Was I exception due to some coincidence or is it fine or as per method?
August 3, 2019 at 03:31
Roughly in case number order and when the DS260 is processed by KCC, which varies by case and by submitted date.
August 3, 2019 at 07:47
Hello BritSimon, quick one regarding police clearance certificates. Do certificates for countries other than the one I reside in now need to be less than 3 months old, or can I apply for them now to cover the periods for which I lived in those other countries?
August 3, 2019 at 15:33
They can be older than three months at interview.
August 3, 2019 at 09:22
Dear Brit sir I am a 2020 dv winner from as reason when I filled the ds 260 I have little mistake my mother’s last name is sahukhal but I filled only sahu so what should I do sir give me the suggestion thank you
August 3, 2019 at 15:34
If your mother is still alive you should correct it either now or at the interview.
August 3, 2019 at 15:58
My mother just past away after submit ds260 my all documents like passport citizen ship took from my husband thru so then what should I do
August 3, 2019 at 16:12
Accuracy is still important, so correct it now if you have time before the interview anyway.
August 3, 2019 at 10:09
Hi Brits,
Myself and my wife had our interview on Thursday, after few questions, we were given a note to report back to the embassy for further interview at 1pm, we reported and we were issued with another note to report the next day at 9. When we got there the following day, my wife was called first for an interview for about 10mins and I was called for a separate interview. At the end we were given back our family album and passport, the rest of our documents is with them…they told us they will contact us. Please what does this mean
August 3, 2019 at 15:39
I don’t know. You will have to wait for their decision.
August 3, 2019 at 11:27
Hey Simon
i have a small case number and probably gonna have an interview in October 2019 , just wanna know do you think being not employed could cause me some problemes ? Cause now i work only in a small jobs not something official.
Thank you.
August 3, 2019 at 15:43
It depends. If you have a long history of only performing “small jobs” they are going to be concerned how you will survive in America with such a low work ethic. So – it’s not just about what you have done up to now, it is about their assessment of your ability to do well in America.
August 3, 2019 at 11:36
Hi Simon,
Firstly, thank you for creating this amazing resource. It has been extremely helpful to not only my wife and me, but also many of our friends who have been past winners.
My wife has been selected for further processing and we are luck enough that her case number is quite low (within the first 100 for our region).
From your post on Historical Visa Bulletin Numbers, it is a strong case that her entry will get processed in October.
We are about to complete the DS-260 within the next day and my question is regarding the timeline.
From your experience, will this leave enough time for KCC to review this, send through the ‘2NL’ and then process our scanned documents in time to schedule an interview in October?
If not, can our early entry number be put in the back of the queue if we ‘miss the boat’ to get interviewed in that first batch of 100?
Thanks again and have a great day!
Boris

It is too late for October interviews. Once you submit your DS260 there will be some weeks of processing, then they will ask for documents, and once all that is done you would be scheduled within the following monthly batch. So October is gone, and probably November. You are more likely to have a December or January interview now.

Thanks for the info.

1. They may ask for proof.
2. ASAP.

Hi Simon,
Question about filling out the DS-260 – Previous US Travel Info section:
My wife is currently in the US. Date of entry July 28th, 2019. She is expected to be there until mid to late September. Can I put the length of stay as 8 weeks from July 28th, even though that would take it into a future period?
Thanks again.
Boris

The form may not allow that – just try.

Hi Simon,
Is there a time limit on the obtained Police Certificates? If the certificate is issued in August, can it still be used for the interview in December for example?
Thanks.
Boris
August 3, 2019 at 16:51
They have a natural “expiration” meaning they should be recent at interview – especially for any countries you live in or visit after getting the police cert.

HI
2019 DV winner.
My interview was scheduled on August 1st but the US embassy postponed because of not submitting the DS-260 for my new born child, but the problem I was one of the people experienced technical damage and issue in the DS-260 back in July 2019 and we couldn’t fill our DS until we attended in person interview at respective embassy. The question is the embassy said in order to set for me new interview date I should fill the DS for my new born child and the sent me a lnk but I’m unable to access the like because of the damage, tried to contact KCC they said I should write to the embassy, the embassy said they will contact KCC but upto now the did not, what can I do please I need your advice?
Do you think I KCC will open the DS-260 for. My new born child?
Do you think I Wil be able to get a new interview date?q
August 3, 2019 at 19:40
This is all in the hands on the embassy now, not KCC. You must keep chasing the embassy.

Hello Brit,
I am a selectee DV2020
Do you have any guide about how to fill up the DV 260 form?
There is a question about vaccinations there, at the moment I don’t have all necessary vaccinations, but I am going to be vaccinated by the time my interview is scheduled, so do I select ‘yes’, confirming that I have documents to prove my vaccination?
Thanks
August 3, 2019 at 19:34
You select no.
You can always google to find stuff on my site. For instance “BritSimon DS260” would have helped.
There is a DS260 guide here:

I have selected YES, do I need to change it? As I have read in you site that it does not matter, as in the end you will have the proof of vaccination#
August 4, 2019 at 06:08
@Alexandra
I think you no need to change it as I used to mail as US Embassy in my country they reply me to respond “Yes”. You can see their response below:

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your email.
Please response “Yes” because every immigrant visa applicant has to get medical exam which means that he/she has
documentation to establish that he/she has received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law.
Regards,
Immigrant Visa Unit-PM
U.S Embassy

Although it doesn’t matter as I have made clear. That’s actually a pretty daft answer. You are supposed to compete the form on “today’s reality” not what you plan to do.
August 4, 2019 at 06:16
Thank you very much
August 4, 2019 at 14:32
It doesn’t really matter.
