Dear Britsimon,
Thank you for helping,
Do you know why some cases have Scheduled for May 2020 and some not . I know they cancelled them later but its good that cases transferred to embassies so it will reduce the process after resuming the work
Thanks
March 27, 2020 at 14:38
That is normal – every month, 2 batches of 2NLs.
March 27, 2020 at 14:37
You can do. It won’t harm.
March 31, 2020 at 10:01

Does applying affect your nonimmigrant visa if you have one
March 27, 2020 at 19:12
Applying for what?? Be clear.
March 27, 2020 at 19:27
Hi Brit
I know that a green card holder can’t stay out of the US for 12 months but I have been outside for 11 months….I booked a lots of trips to the US but all of them were cancelled due to the corona virus travel ban in my country….Will i lose my Green card or they are going to understand if i try to travel again after the outbrake
Thank you
March 27, 2020 at 22:34
Depending on when travel is possible you will be able to apply for an SB1 at your local embassy, and the COVID travel ban will be taken as an unavoidable reason for you to miss the 12 month deadline. No need to worry.
March 27, 2020 at 19:41
My CN is EU32XXX, I submitted my DS260 and documents knowing the risk that if I do not get the green card, I will have difficulty obtaining nonimmigrant visas later. I am also starting a PhD at a US university this september. My original plan was to get the greencard and move with my spouse before our studies begin in September. Now with this COVID19 crisis, we are wondering if there is a way to “withdraw” green card application so that at least we can apply for J-1 visas sponsored through my university. Do you know of any way such withdrawal? or do you have a suggestion how we can show that we do not have immigration intent (honestly the only reason I wanted to get a greencard was because it gives me access to different research opportunities specific to my field, our primary plan was coming back in the EU after my PhD and perhaps a Postdoc). Thank you for your insight in advance.
March 27, 2020 at 22:35
An application (DS260) once submitted cannot be unsubmitted.
March 27, 2020 at 22:42
thank you, additionally, is it possible to apply to j-1 before september if my case never gets scheduled in the meantime? i know we will have to prove our intention to come back but is it technically possible?
March 28, 2020 at 05:39
I don’t know.
March 28, 2020 at 05:59
hello,
do you think it is the end of the road for high case numbers that were selected in the DV-2020?, my case no is AF60k. i mean with all these delays in the embassies due to the covid-19 spread. i know the question is difficult to predict but worth asking.
March 28, 2020 at 06:25
I don’t know what will happen. No one does. Wait and see.
March 28, 2020 at 06:11
Dear sir.
I’m a dv 2020 winner of Srilanka and my case number is AS25***.
I have sent my documents to KCC 8 weeks ago but still I didn’t get the document confirmation email.
1.Should I send an email to KCC?
2.What should I mention in the email?
Please help.
Thank you sir
March 28, 2020 at 17:50
1. You can
2. Come on. Use your imagination.
March 30, 2020 at 17:06
Hi Harshana,
Am also from SL. Need to contact you. Drop a message to [email protected]
March 28, 2020 at 07:18
Dear Mr. Brit, ow are you doing in US? I know it’s tough. Anyway, my interview was scheduled for April (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia embassy) but now cancelled. So, will they reschedule my interview appointment by themselves or shall I write them to reschedule me?
May God be with you!
March 28, 2020 at 17:51
I think that will vary by embassy. They will probably ask you to reschedule using their online system if they have one.
March 28, 2020 at 13:27
Good morning sir. Please I will like to know if I can adopt a child before filling the DS-260 form . I will like to adopt a child before filling the form so that she too can get a green card. Please is it possible?
March 28, 2020 at 17:53
Doing that simply to get a GC is fraud. Plus the child would have to have been adopted at least 2 years before the interview.
March 28, 2020 at 14:50
Hello Brit Simon be safe and takecare.
I think due to Corona virus spreading worldwide and mostly hit in us now I think now all DV winners have no any hope
March 28, 2020 at 16:28
dont talk like that. There’s still time until September 30th. So 6 months. A lot can change until then
March 28, 2020 at 17:55
I honestly don’t understand why people write such negative comments as this.
If I am thirsty, and I look at a glass half filled with water, I am glad there is some ater. I don’t assume that water is going to disappear into thin air.
Wait and see.
March 28, 2020 at 18:10
Uncle Simon,
Oh Thank. This is exactly the words we need to feed our hopes with.
Survive this now, and worry about DV2020 later ….is my theme.
Let’s be optimistic.!!!
March 28, 2020 at 18:01
I’ve also been scheduled in 1st week of April but the embassy in Accra (Ghana has announced its closed down) I mailed them and was asked to send them my appointment.
I did as instructed but I haven’t heard from them.
1. Is there any risk in sending them my appointment letter ?
2.Since I haven’t heard from them, should I proceed with the interview as scheduled???
March 29, 2020 at 15:12
1. No
2. No
You will have to wait until interviews are rescheduled.
March 29, 2020 at 17:53
Thanks so much Sir
March 31, 2020 at 14:25
Hello Sir.
Greatings!
I’ve been given a feedback on my enquiries and this the introduction of their feedback I received today but I don’t know which account their talking about.

I’m also facing similar challenge in Ghana… Will be glad if you can email me [email protected] so chat more
March 29, 2020 at 10:08
Nigeria is not eligible because more than 50,000 people have immigrated to the united States in the previous five year, does the 50,000 include adjustment of status cases and refugees/asylees?
March 29, 2020 at 15:21
All immigration.
March 29, 2020 at 13:15
Hello sir
If i went to US via H visa and i want to do adjustment of status , in eligibility criteria they mention i have to be admissible, iam a dv2020 selected from sudan and and sudan banned this year from Dv, so iam asking iam considered admissible or not ?
Thanks And Best Regards
March 29, 2020 at 15:22
Do you have an H visa? Which one?
March 29, 2020 at 15:42
Hi sir
Please I was reviewing the education requirements for the green card lottery and I saw this :
《Vocational degrees that are not considered a basis for further academic study will not be considered equivalent to U.S. high school education.》
Please What does it mean ? I’m from Cote d’ivoire and my highest education level is An associate degree equivalent , its called a BTS ( in french ) and in English it’s Advanced Technician/Vocational Certificate.
Here’s a link in case you wanna take a look https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brevet_de_technicien_sup%C3%A9rieur
Will that be ok for education requirements?? Or not ??
March 29, 2020 at 16:44
Hello britsimon i need to ask u one question, my question is my nationality is somalia us you know somalia are one of the country that are banned in US to travel, so i tried to find another passport or nationality, lastly i find another passport, so what i need to ask you is when i want to write my birth certifagate my new passport i writted to another year according to the my school certifagate is writen another different year to my new passport, so if i uploaded like this does it will be problem for my case. That is what i want to know…
March 30, 2020 at 00:43
Clearly, presenting official documents with such fundamental errors will cause questioning of the validity of the documents or the process used to obtain the documents.
March 30, 2020 at 00:41
I don’t know whether your local embassy will treat that as a vocational degree or not. You could email and ask the embassy if you are unsure.
March 29, 2020 at 16:11
Hello Kemme am also in Côte d’ivoire and a dv 2020 as well here is my number call me will help you clear out. 49 50 11 12.
March 29, 2020 at 21:19
Dear Brit, one more question. Me my husband and son came to US with I134 sponsorship, according to present situation (coronavirus), we do not work, my question is is there any type of assistance for my family without negative impact on our immigration status?
Thank you beforhand. I WILL APPRECIATE YOUR ANSWER SIR.
March 30, 2020 at 00:49
I’m sorry you have come at such a bad time. I don’t know much about what assistance you can get. If you were working already but are now unemployed your previous employer may be able to help, but if on the other hand you had not started working then your options are very limited.
March 30, 2020 at 02:23
Dear Brit I have worked but for a month.
March 30, 2020 at 14:34
Employers are being given help and incentives to keep people on payroll. Speak to your employer and see if they have checked if they can get help.
March 30, 2020 at 22:16
Thank sir.
March 29, 2020 at 22:31
Hi Brit.
When rescheduling my interview for May. Should I wait for KCC to inform me or do I call the embassy to give me a rescheduled date (especially when May interviews have been cancelled) ?
Thanks
March 30, 2020 at 00:50
If KCC sent your 2NL then the embassy has your details contact them for rescheduling. The staff are working even though they are not conducting interviews.
March 29, 2020 at 23:52
Hello Brit, My case number will be current in April and i am doing AOS , but today i cane to know that i too have to pay DV adminstrative fee $ 330 , do i have to wait for the receipt or i can sent the copy of money order just to show that i have paid DV fee. What do you suggest sir?
March 30, 2020 at 00:55
You have posted questions in the AOS forum, and that is where you should ask AOS related questions.
March 30, 2020 at 00:58
I have asked there too but I have not get reply?
March 30, 2020 at 14:33
Then be more patient.
March 30, 2020 at 03:26
Will the visa bulletin will be published in mid April now or it will also be postpond ??
March 30, 2020 at 14:35
I expect it to be published.
March 30, 2020 at 03:31
Hi, I’m a green card holder living in Boston. In this era of Coronavirus I wanna know whether unemployment would be a public charge or no? I mean is it possible to get help without being a public charge?
Thanks in advance
March 30, 2020 at 14:35
No – that is not public charge.
March 30, 2020 at 07:26

March 30, 2020 at 11:48
Hi Simon!
I was supposed to have my DV2020 appointment on April 8th however it was canceled because of the pandemic. I was told that the new one will be scheduled as soon as it is possible. I did my medical examination shortly before the whole situation evolved, on March 6th so it is now valid for the next 6 months – till September 6th. That is the day till when I am supposed to leave my country after having my GC granted. Right now I am doing my master’s degree in my country and I was supposed to graduate in July however becasue of the pandemic my studies can be extended until September. So my concern is that I won’t be able to leave the country till the day my medical examination expires. Is it possible to reteake the medical exam (the documents were already sent to the embassy by the doctor)? Or is there any other way I can delay the date when my ability to leave the country expires?
I hope my inquiry is clear. Thank you, be safe! Gabriela
March 30, 2020 at 14:39
Yes you can retake the medical.

March 30, 2020 at 14:41
Well nothing is normal for now. We will have to see what happens with the virus. Patience.
March 30, 2020 at 14:53
Hi Simon, I hope you doing well.My CN IS Eu32xxx still haven’t received document confirmation letter. I have sent my documents twice once in November and in February complete packages as requested . I heard somebody receives with eu33xxx already.
I have sent them an email but got only automated reply.
Kind Regards, John
March 31, 2020 at 02:05
Wait for a reply. Be patient, there is a crisis going on.
March 30, 2020 at 17:27
Extracting “You must arrive and apply for admission in the United States no later than the visa expiration date printed on your visa.”
Hi Brit,
Can we request to extend our VISA expiration date? (Let’s say if we undergo Medical test for the second time since it should not expire before entering USA.)
**Asking due to current situation in USA due to Covid-19. I guess NO ONE will expect to go devil’s mouth by leaving secured area.

March 31, 2020 at 02:06
Once travel options are available and embassies are reopened you can apply for a SB-1 visa. Keep documentation for the efforts you made to return.
March 30, 2020 at 23:00
Hello Brit,
Hope you and your family is safe and well.
Do you have any information about delaying the results of DV2021, which is expected on May 2020?
March 31, 2020 at 02:07
It will continue as planned.
March 30, 2020 at 23:52

Hi Brit
Am case #2020AF00072xxx and I’ve not submitted my forms yet. I’ve been married (customary) 4 17yrs now but I don’t have a marriage certificate though I have a sworn affidavit. My wedding and registration will be on end next month. my worries are:
1. Is my cn safe and if so when should I
start to worry?
2. On the forms which date should I fill in
on the marriage section the date I got
married(17yrs ago) or the one on the
marriage certificate (when registered)?
3. I have a son of 14 yrs who opened an
Instagram account under his name last
week using my phone and linked to my
Facebook account. Should I fill it in or
ignore. And if I fill it in will it be under my
social media or his? And I intend to
close it since is of no benefit to both.
4. Can the so said affidavit be filled in as a
proof of marriage?
April 1, 2020 at 00:54
1. No. It’s a high number anyway, but with COVID-19 closures the risk has increased. Worrying won’t help.
2. If you applied as married, 17 years ago.
3. It’s not your account – so no need to declare it as such.
4. I don’t know if they will accept that – it depends on laws in your country.
March 31, 2020 at 09:49
Hi Brit
This may have been answered multiple times but could not find it so my bad on doubling up.
I am trying my level best to do a quick activation trip to USA (LAX) and return back in 3 days(NZ). I need to know if i have to:
1. fill anything – like a document etc to get this LPR or is it literally a stamp on the counter when i submit all my documents?
2.Do i have to pay anything?
3. My visa type is DV1. Do you or anyone know if i can use this to enter LAX from NZ (like any restrictions you or anyone is aware of)
4. While i have 3 days there, is there any paper work i should do to ensure SSN and GC can progress and sent to me in NZ?
regards
Sac
April 1, 2020 at 00:51
1. No – you just present your passport and the sealed brown envelope.
2. You should pay your immigrant fee ($220 per person). Instructions with the passport package.
3. You can enter any POE, including LAX (Hawaii might be easier)
4. Your documents will be sent to the USA address you gave in the DS260.
March 31, 2020 at 12:14
Hi Simon,
Can you advise me if the DV2020 winners need to register in this website (https://www.ustraveldocs.com) I read a lot about this website through comments but I dont know what is it about
Thanks
April 1, 2020 at 00:48
That varies by embassy. Read the embassy specific instructions (from the main instruction page).
March 31, 2020 at 13:02
Hii simon how are you i am 2020 dv winer i am aplicant may intervew day is marche 23 in this week we left 2 dayes may wife is get ma baby so what shall ido his baby ples tell me
April 1, 2020 at 00:47
Your message is unclear.
March 31, 2020 at 18:01
Hi Simon
Can we make a petition on change.org to ask USCIS to extend DV 2020 interviews beyond 30 September and also to issue DV visas with 1 year validity rather than 6 months? Can we atleast try?
Can you help spread the petition?
Thanks
April 1, 2020 at 00:19
No. The end date is a matter of law – it would take a change of law to vary it – and no one in Washington is concerned about the DV lottery at the moment.
Regarding visa validity I have posted about how to extend that.
So no petitions needed.
March 31, 2020 at 19:30
Hi simon I have one question. I’m 2020 DV winner now am here in USA, I paid for my immigrant fee before a month ago after entering US. does my process delay due to closing of USCIS??
April 1, 2020 at 00:17
Of course.
April 1, 2020 at 01:00
More than 120 days?
April 1, 2020 at 21:21
Maybe. It doesn’t matter though. The main thing you need is your SSN – which comes from the SSA.
April 1, 2020 at 00:59
More than 120days?
March 31, 2020 at 20:01
Hello Simon,
Do you have any idea why I didn’t receive a 2NL this month? My documents are processed and I am current (EU 23xxx)
Thank you
March 31, 2020 at 23:58
Me too , I have not get 2NLs and I think they scheduled some interviews in May 2020 but later they cancelled all of them so all of interviews for the DV program have been supsend due the COVID-19 and it is undetermined when scheduling will resume

April 1, 2020 at 03:15
Hi Simon,
Thank you for your help all the time.
I supposed to have an interview in the beginning of April, but received an e-mail saying that the interview has been cancelled, and will be scheduled once the embassy is open. I called embassy, and recieved confirmation e-mail saying that the interview will be rescheduled.
However, when I go to Embassy website, it is saying that they’ve cancelled non-immigrant visa interviews, but they will continue immigrant visa interviews. Also, when I check enrant check site, my interview date is showing early April still.
In that case,
1. Should I call embassy again to make sure?
2. Should I show up the interview date just in case?
3. Also, my police certificate will be expired in a few week. Should I get new police certificate?
4. Is there a chance that my interview won’t be rescheduled because of the corona virus?
Your answer is always appreciated.
April 1, 2020 at 21:33
1. If you want.
2. No
3. It is valid for 12 months
4. Yes, theoretically.
April 1, 2020 at 05:11
Hi there Brit Simon,
Today I received an email from US Consulate from Sydney, Australia. They have said basically there are no new rules relating to COVID in regards to extended time past the 12 month ‘out of country’ LPR laws with green card.
My 12 months will be August 5th 2020. They recommend either the SB-1 or applying to Australian home affairs for exemption to leave Australia if flights/ borders aren’t properly open by then.
Could I in fact (pending flights) travel to a US port, stay for a limited time and head back to Australia? does that open up another year outside the USA in terms of LPR laws?
Thanks for your advice.
Kindest,
Ben
April 1, 2020 at 21:35
Their response is in line with what I have been telling people.
The 12 months is not just a one time offer. Please read the FAQ about absences to make sure you understand.
April 1, 2020 at 23:35
Thanks, Simon. I guess that means I could…
April 1, 2020 at 07:11

The response says you did not give them the correct info to identify yourself.

I saw CEAC data and my case number is “AT NVC”. What does it mean? Is it a good news?
April 1, 2020 at 21:38
Your question means you haven’t read the FAQ. Do that.
April 1, 2020 at 12:01
Dear mr britsimon i’m from one of those travel ban countries i applied another citizenship/passport from non designated country finally i got it but there is a problem my place of birth of my second passport is still the origin birth place of my origin nationality so my question is
1.will that be a problem for visa denial.
2.what is the meaning dual nationality corncerning dv lottery.
Thanks sir be safe.
April 1, 2020 at 21:40
1. No.
2. Someone with two nationalities (like you).
April 1, 2020 at 21:54
Thanks a lot sir but you have already mentioned that dv lottery is based on birth place not citizenship my place of birth is still the baned country what is the difference sir.?
April 2, 2020 at 02:39
Your eligibility to participate in the lottery is based on place of birth, but there is an exception for the ban for a 2nd citizenship.

April 1, 2020 at 21:40
I don’t know for sure, but there is obviously more risk now than before.
April 1, 2020 at 17:28
Don’t expect embassies to open until May 4th. USCIS extended the closure to the public from April 7th to May 4th.
April 1, 2020 at 21:42
USCIS don’t control embassies.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/suspension-of-routine-visa-services.html
April 2, 2020 at 01:34
They may not control it but all embassie are shut down no matter the covid-19 cases in those countries. Some embassies were slower to update their sites and communicate the cancelations. USCIS is just another embassy. basically. IMO.
April 2, 2020 at 02:35
I don’t follow your logic at all. I think the problem is the lack of logic.
April 2, 2020 at 02:50
If you shutdown all the embassies and cancel all immigrant visas is for all. There is no one embassy open that does visas and 99 are closed.
Judging from the fastest update( USCIS) all embassies will be closed till May 4th.
In next few days they will update their sites.
April 2, 2020 at 02:58
AGAIN. USCIS do not control the embassies. They may remain closed or may open, but that has nothing to do what USCIS does for offices domestically. No need to keep going round and round about this. That is the position.

Hello! I just want to know if anyone with case number above AF57000 received email that your documents have been processed? Thanks in advance and keep safe!
April 1, 2020 at 21:43
The number is not the key to receiving that email.

Hi,
I have a question, Uscis published that will reopen on May 4th, does it mean that all the Us embassies in the world will open in the same date so May 4th?
Or it depends from the situation in each country. Because here in Albania Europe the Us embassy has published and sent emails that it will reopen on 6th April.
April 1, 2020 at 21:44
USCIS don’t control embassies, but each embassy will decide.
April 1, 2020 at 20:31
Your? When will we have an opinion or video from you about this situation? always a thought and not a conviction
April 1, 2020 at 21:44
Which situation?
April 2, 2020 at 09:37
Hi britsimon,
based on the new CEAC results available would you expect any progress with the next VB?
Thanks!
April 3, 2020 at 01:22
The big factor right now is the pandemic. Because of that it would be foolish to try and anticipate the progress on the next VB.
April 2, 2020 at 10:54
Hi britt,
Does the KCC still operates? Do they still schedule interviews? Will a new visa bulletin come?
thanks!
April 3, 2020 at 01:23
Yes, Yes and No (the embassies are closed), Yes.
April 2, 2020 at 15:47
i saw in the new ceac data of 1 april that there is some movement in percentage for example a lot of refusal in Eu.from march to april.
is this a sign ( consider the embassy enclosure) there is a sort of movement in the interview?
is the KCC still working?
could you make when you have time a video explanation or a post of the ceac data evolution ?
sorry for my big amount of question during this year; i just try every months to understand better.
best regards
sofia
April 2, 2020 at 16:01
I have the same questions.
I saw also that KCC sent a lots of 2NL for May.
1)will Kcc continuing to make appointments also for May?
2)Should I expect too my 2NL For April ?
(I know that I should receive it on April because weeks ago, before the embassies clousure , I called kcc and they said that to me)
Thanks Brit!
April 3, 2020 at 01:28
1. No. The May VBs have been sent (at least the first batch). I think they KCC did not send the second batch. It is clear from the data that there were less May interviews arranged than we wanted, and in any case they were all subsequently cancelled.
2. I don’t know. Whatever they said weeks ago doesn’t matter now. Things have changed.
April 3, 2020 at 01:25
I don’t think we should expect to interpret anything from the CEAC data at the moment. Clearly the bigger factor is the pandemic, the impact of the cancelled interviews and when the embassies will be able to restart interviews.
