Hi Simon,
regarding the DV23 Entry , I have one question regarding the passport section ,
About the Country/Authority of Issuance:
If I live outside the origin country and I did the renewal for my passport at the embassy in the residence country and they write in the Authority of Issuance the residence country ,what will be the answer for the Country/Authority of Issuance:
thanks

Good afternoon, Thank you for all your insight, time, and assistance.
Selected, Venezuela 2022SA000005**. DS260 submitted but no request for docs yet. Plan to submit anyway per your advice.
– When labeling the documents to send, understanding the correct format is 2020AF00938653_John_Doe_Birth_Certificate.pdf, what is correct when there is the duel last name. Example Lucibell Yasmin Leon Rueda?
-New Passports were recently issued/received for all 4 applicants, should I ask to open DS-260 to update the applications to update the passport numbers and expiration dates?
October 8, 2021 at 02:59
1. Overthinking.
2. Yes – because you will submit old and new passports when you send the documents. So – unlock, correct, then submit the documents.

Dear Britsimon,
We are hoping to book the airline tickets to USA via an airticket booking agent. The agnt wants the passport to do so. We are hoping to send a photocopy of the passport biographic page and the visa page. So in the visa page, the A number is displayed.
1.Should we remove the A number (in the photocopy we can draw a marker line through it so its not visible) and send the photocopies?
2.Is the A number very sensitive?
3. Can someone else misuse the A number of us in any way, so that it will cause problems at port of entry?
Thank you

I forgot to mention my Twitter account in ds 260. And I haven’t log in to that account in 5 years. Should I unlock da 260 and enter or Am I good to go with current da 260
October 8, 2021 at 03:08
You can decide.

October 7, 2021 at 15:18
Hi Brit, I wanted to ask you a question. I was drawn in dv2022 and a few days ago they asked me for the documents, I sent all the documents and today they asked me for the documents again. What can be caused this? Thank you so much for everything!!
October 8, 2021 at 03:08
Don’t worry about it – just wait a few weeks.
October 7, 2021 at 15:48
Hi Mr Britt, I have a question. I submitted the DS260 but did not include my school details since I attended about 5 schools since primary school. But I included my university education till the Masters.
1. Do I have to unlock and include those details? Or can I submit the proof of school attendance at the interview?
October 8, 2021 at 03:09
You should enter education from age 11 or 12 and upwards.

Thanks a lot
October 7, 2021 at 16:48
Hello Britsimon,
I have been selected for DV 2022 lottery. As of procedure I completed DS 260 form, and sent all applicable documents as soon as I got an email regarding required documents. However I got a response email stating that they need the principal applicant’s passport(who is me) despite the fact that I had actually sent the passport biographic page photo. I thought that they may have considered the photo illegible, so I scanned my passport once more and ensured it is clearer than the previous time, and sent it. Yesterday I got an email requiring my passport again, and not quite clearly stating why previous versions were unacceptable. There was only a highlighted part stating “If the passport used by the principal applicant has changed, you must include a copy of the passport given on the initial entry with a written explanation for the change to KCC”. The issue is that I haven’t changed the passport I am initially registered with, and have not entered the details about the passport wrong about the current one in the DS-260 form. Expiry date for my current passport is 18 February 2023 (more that six months). I don’t understand what is the reason of denial of my passport scan. What can possibly cause the issue?
Thank you in advance.
October 8, 2021 at 03:10
I don’t know. It might be that you made a mistake on the passport number when entering the lottery.
October 7, 2021 at 18:01
Hi Mr Simon
I’m DV22 cn AF40xxx. I just send my civil documents last August 20. I want to ask KCC if they are satisfied or not about my document.
1 ) Is it harm to ask them??
2) If not what should be the format or context of the email it has to be?
Thank u sir.
October 8, 2021 at 03:11
1. No
2. Use your own judgement
October 7, 2021 at 18:40
Hi Simon,
I see a lot of people asking about interviews and their embassies. As in finding out how many DV interviews are (or usually are) held at their embassy. Is there a centralised location for this kind of information? My embassy is the London one but I can’t really find any information on their site about this. My case number is current for November and just trying to figure out where abouts we’re likely to be called for an interview. (2022AF3k)
Thanks.
October 8, 2021 at 03:11
No information yet, but you will probably need some patience.
October 7, 2021 at 19:45
Hello Brit:
My wife is a winner of Dv2022, she sent her DS260 as a single lady, after that we got married and she applied to unlock it 25 days ago, to correct the DS260 solicitude. We know that can take more than 60 days, but now she received the ”ok” email. Do we write to unlock again? Or just wait for the answer?
October 8, 2021 at 03:12
Your choice.
October 7, 2021 at 20:41
Dear Brit,
I am dv 2022 winner when I first applied my initial application with a different passport from the one on ds 260 but I keep both is it

October 8, 2021 at 03:12
When you submit documents or attend the interview have both old and new passports available.

Do you need to stay at the mailing address you provided for the green card delivery?
Also, we have to inform USCIS of any address changes, I assume we only start doing this once we actually move and not while temporary in the US to pick up the green card
Thanks
October 8, 2021 at 03:14
1. No
2. Correct
October 7, 2021 at 21:52
Hi Brit. 2021OC500 Goh plantiff DQ in April 21.
On the day of the judgement before advice to wait, I emailed kcc and Sydney consulate asking to be interviwed. I also rang Sydney yesterday who said they have not received direction yet to open regardless of elements of NSW opening on Monday due to vaccination rates.
I just received email reply from consulate that embassy is currently paused but if i want to change to another overseas embassy to email KCC.
So, amazing aknowledgment of standing….
It is still so difficult to leave let alone return to Australia. The ‘bubble to Nz opens and shuts continually. I expect Syd will open in the next month or so… (sorry long explanation) do you think being aknowledged I am safe to wait, or once they start dealing out interviews they will just quickly roll through until all 481 visa’s are given out ?
Thanks so much….
October 8, 2021 at 03:16
It’s all guesswork, but in your case I would wait for Sydney to reopen. They are communicative – so you can ask again next week, and it will probably be a few more weeks before Goh starts.
October 7, 2021 at 23:17
Hi Simon,
winner of 2022OC6**.
Do i need I-134 filled out? I do have more than $10k.
If so, do I send it before the interview together with my documents or bring it with me for my interview?
Thank you
October 8, 2021 at 03:17
If you are interview in Sydney they normally don’t ask for financials, but it is wise to take them just in case.
October 8, 2021 at 03:21
Thankyou so much, your answer is so reassuring!
October 8, 2021 at 04:38
Hi Mr.Simon
My husband would be the primary applicant for the VISA..incase we do get the PR and my husband goes to the US permanently first, and I travel to US and gets my Green card activated, can I come back to my country of origin and reside till I am ready to move for good to the US with my baby? We have a few things to settle in our origin country and would like to move permanently after one year..but we can go before our 6month visa expiration and land in the US and apply for the SSN and GC, but we would come back….but my spouse would travel and be in the US permanently till we join him later (he is the primary)
Can this be done? Will me and my baby loose our PR status as we aren’t residing in US permanently? Kindly help in replying..thank you so much
October 8, 2021 at 05:09
I suggest you read the FAQ about absences from the USA
October 8, 2021 at 09:29
Hi Simon,
Winner 2022AF10K During the time of submission DS260 form, I tried to uncheck the option “No” to “YES” in the security and background section about the
1. (Social Security Administration to issue a Social Security number and a card?) My answer was “NO” instead of”YES”
Which didn’t allow me to perform such action.
2. And I selected “YES” for the next question which is the same as the social security along with the Department of Homeland Security both access my information and issuing my social security card.
Is there any steps or action I can follow?
Thanks,
October 9, 2021 at 14:59
Don’t worry about this. When you come to the USA after you get your visa, you will apply at the SSA office – no problem.
October 8, 2021 at 18:45
I was explicitly told by CO that I need to activate visa within 6-months (medicals) and return to the use within a year after that activation.
There is no risk of “LRP abandonment” as you haven’t moved yet for good I was told.
October 9, 2021 at 15:36
1. The 1 year is based on absence, not the anniversary of activation.
2. There is not “NO” risk, but the risk is low.
3. Your chosen screen name is a bad idea. Jim Crow represents racism in America. I suggest you don’t use that name.
October 8, 2021 at 06:07
Hi, I have lived in the US for two years, do I need to obtain police certificate from there as well as from my country? Thank you in advance!
October 9, 2021 at 14:54
No
October 8, 2021 at 06:45
Hi Simon
I was watching your video you posted today.
i’m dv22 AF43xxx already submitted ds260 on May 27 but after unlocking my spouse ds260
& resubmitted on August 15. I send all my civil documents at the same day also.
My question is which DS260 submission date will be taken as an advantage for my case? I mean The first or the second submission date.
October 9, 2021 at 14:55
Given your case number, it doesn’t matter either way.
October 8, 2021 at 08:09
Hello Simon.
DV22 AF31***. I submitted my documents last month and got DQ just yesterday meaning if my case number gets current I may receive my 2nl for interview scheduling. The problem is while reading through the comments I realized people asking if they should unlock their ds260 because they did not include all their schools and you said the schools listed should be from age 11 upwards. I only listed my high school and university.
1. Do I have to unlock my ds260 to include my primary school?
2. Will it not affect me since I have been DQ or are they going to ask me to resubmit my documents after I unlock and submit my ds260?
3. I asked you during one of your live sessions if 2021 will affect 2022 and you said it will but considering my high case number I may not be interviewed until around May. Since I have been DQ with a high case number, what are the chances of getting interviewed should my region go current before the predicted month supposing the embassy in Ghana starts interviews earlier than they did with 2021 selectees?
October 9, 2021 at 14:58
1. You should decide what to do.
2. Your documents would not change, so why would you need new documents.
3. You’ll have a chance of being interviewed once your case is current, either because the VB makes your number current, or the whole region.
October 8, 2021 at 10:56
DEAR, thank you for your effort. in my children DS260 under the native alphabet name i entered only the given name (first name) without the surname ( in Arabic). should i unlock the ds to correct or its fine?? please advise.
thank you
October 8, 2021 at 17:53
hello zakk,
you should unlock the DS260 and fill their name as it presents in their passports in Arabic letters and I guess in the Arab countries as mine they put your child name, father name, grandfather name and family name.
October 9, 2021 at 15:00
I would unlock and correct.
October 9, 2021 at 16:41
thank you.. should i resend the documents after i correct?
October 8, 2021 at 11:27
Hello sir,
I hope you are doing great!
While sending documents to kcc, I realized that I can’t send police clearance because I have in India for 2 months and also should I get a police clearance from India and send that one. Or I just don’t have to send. because I have been in India for only two
Months.
October 9, 2021 at 09:51
And sir please tell how can I know if kcc has unlocked my da-260 form? And while sending further documents can I write
Note: I am living in India and I want my interview to be taken in india.
?
October 9, 2021 at 15:52
Unlocked DS260 no longer says “completed”
October 9, 2021 at 15:07
Sounds like you did not read the instructions. At the moment you won’t need a police cert for India, however, that might change depending on when you get the interview.
October 8, 2021 at 13:33
Just some info if it matters:
2022AF45xxx (not mine)
Submitted DS260 on 10 May 2021
DQ yesterday – 07 October 2021
October 8, 2021 at 13:37
Forgot to mention – Submitted Documents 16 September 2021
October 9, 2021 at 15:08
Great. Were you asked to submit documents or you did it without being asked?
October 11, 2021 at 09:09
I confirmed;
she sent documents without request from KCC shortly after submitting DS260 mid May
Received request for documents 16 August 2021
Request for additional documentation 23 September 2021 (submitted that)
DQ’d – 7 October 2021
October 16, 2021 at 03:18
Thanks!
October 8, 2021 at 13:46
Hi Brit, KCC sent me a follow up email informing me of which document was missing. Here’s the opening and most important –
“Further DV Documents Required
Case Number: 2022AF00060xxx
Thank you for submitting your Diversity Visa (DV) documents to the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC). After reviewing your documents, KCC has determined that additional documentation that you have met the passport requirement, or an exemption to that requirement, is needed. Please review the information below and submit all requested documentation.
Each DV entry must include the passport number, country or authority of issuance, and expiration date for the principal applicant’s valid, unexpired passport. If the passport used by the principal applicant has changed, you must include a copy of the passport given on the initial entry with a written explanation for the change to KCC. If you claimed any exemption from the passport requirement at entry, you must provide an explanation of your qualifications for the exemption requested.”
So, it is clear that they kept asking me for documents because of the passport thing. What I did previously was that I scanned both the expired passport and the new passport and saved as one file. The passport I entered with, was valid during entry and only expired this year in March.
My question
How do I explain the passport change? How do I put the explanation and also how do I attach it to the passports?
I really need help as I’ve not done this before and don’t want to have them asking again.
Any suggestion from previous experience would really help.
Thank You
October 8, 2021 at 17:00
I was in the same situation as you are. I attached my 2 passports in one pdf but in different pages and on the first page I listed my old passport and I wrote. “This is the old passport With which I have entered the Dv lottery and with which I completed the ds-260 form. I have changed it now because it expired.”
On the second page I listed the new passport and I wrote: “This is the new passport”.
I am DQ now, so I hope this will help you.
October 9, 2021 at 09:37
Thank you
October 9, 2021 at 15:29
Exactly. Nice and clear.
October 9, 2021 at 15:26
Create an attachment that explains you are providing old and new passport scans, and the reason that you renewed. Resend that along with all other documents.
October 8, 2021 at 15:48
Hi Mr. Simon, Thanks for your guidance through. Again stuck with a question. When I applied DV I had my old passport, which expired this year. Now I have a renewed new passport. So, when sending documents, how should I send? Can I get both in 1pdf file of do I have to send as name_passport_old.pdf and name_passport_current.pdf? Thank you.
October 9, 2021 at 15:28
Create an attachment that explains you are providing old and new passport scans, and the reason that you renewed. the passports can be in that same attachment or separate.
October 8, 2021 at 18:07
Dear Simon
I didn’t mention some social accounts in ds 260 because I never used them and I already forgot the sign in information, so is that will harm my case or its okay to not mention?
Thank you
October 9, 2021 at 15:31
You should have mentioned them.
October 8, 2021 at 18:51
Hi simon
i’m DV22 i was looking for August 2021 visa bulletin.
The bulletin states the total selectees of DV 2022 for each country. My question In the total winner of each country, does it only the main applicant or including the derivatives?
Thank u
October 9, 2021 at 15:37
Includes derivatives.
October 8, 2021 at 20:18
Hi Simon
I am winner 2022 dv lottery time entry i have mistake i chose refugee i haven’t passaport but i have passaport ds260 and i apply how is it this mistake
October 9, 2021 at 15:38
Denial is possible. All you can do is explain it was a mistake and hope they forgive the error.
October 9, 2021 at 01:16
Hi again Simon, thanks for answering my questions earlier. Much appreciated.
I wonder if it is okay to ask/ request the consulate that interview us to grant us a visa that is valid for 1 year rather than six months? Or they wouldn’t do it anyway.
Also I heard from my friend that it is possible to apply for “leave” of upto 2 years once you entered the US with the DV visa and activated it? Do you know anything about this? She gave them the reason that she had to take care of her parents and sort out other stuff. She didn’t go into details about what the process is and she stopped answering my questions (probably asked her too much compared to what she wanted to reveal).
Thank you!
October 9, 2021 at 06:41
You will get a visa that is valid for 6 months like everyone else does if you go through the process successfully. If you plan to be outside of the US for more than a year you need to ask for a re-entry permit. 2 years is even more problematic because the authorities will think you have abandoned your permanent residency and you might need to ask for a new visa with a different process(returning resident). Certain conditions must be met to keep your green card and you need to live in the US permanently. If you can’t move you can reconsider if it’s worth to go through the process at all. Once you have your visa your consulate will give clear instructions what you can, cannot do and the way to file these forms if you plan to be away from the US for a longer time.
October 9, 2021 at 14:24
Thanks Blanka
October 9, 2021 at 15:40
No they won’t give one year.
The 2 years thing is the Re-entry permit – I-131. You file that while in the USA and you need to remain in the USA until your application has moved to a certain step (biometrics). That can take around 6 weeks, possible more. If granted you are given permission to be out of the country for up to 2 years.
October 9, 2021 at 08:20
Hi Simon,
Thanks for offering this service, I would also pay for it, maybe open a patreon?
My wife and me sent off our ds 260 in august 2021. According to our number it should go current in November 2021. We have emailed the kcc for an update but didn’t get any reply. Do you think they usually only reply to people when they are current?
I also took on a job last month with an American tech company. In the ds 260 I stated that I was self employed, should I request to change that or that doesn’t matter?
Thanks and best regards,
Chris
October 9, 2021 at 15:46
As long as I remain employed, I can afford to invest my time in this for free. But thanks of thinking about that.
Your DS260 submission was a bit late, so there will be some delay. However, you can send documents if you haven’t already. https://britsimonsays.com/document-procedure-modification/
No need to unlock the DS260 for the employment change.
October 9, 2021 at 09:20
Hi Brit. My mom won the dv lottery 2022 as the main entrant. She has a part time high school diploma, but she has never worked, and my dad has a university degree. Is she qualified for the dv lottery. If she is not, should i abandon the application, or is there a chance of approval by the embassy during the interview?
October 9, 2021 at 15:48
It sounds like she did not meet the education requirement through normal (formal) education, and that she would not meet the alternative work experience requirement.
In that case, denial is very likely, not 100% certain.

October 9, 2021 at 09:45
Good evening Brit I have two Passports. the first passport is the passport of the country of my birth (Contry Guinea in Africa). The second passport is the passport of My country of origin, the country where my grandparents come from (Contry: Lebanon). I would like to know if I can play twice: the first registration I register with the passport of my country of birth and the second Registration I register with the passport of my country of origin where my parents come from
October 9, 2021 at 15:50
Eligibility is based on country of birth. Assuming you are a homosapien, you were only born once. So you can only enter one time.
October 9, 2021 at 09:46
Hi Mr. Simon, Hope you are doing good. Another question regarding a family member who was born in Japan because father was working there (but did not live there more than 3 months), citizenship having in another country and currently studying in the USA. What could be this applicant’s country of eligibility? Where would be the interview if selected? Is AoS possible in the US? This is related to DV 2023 application please. (Both countries qualifies for DV entry!). Thank you for your valuable insight.
October 9, 2021 at 15:51
Eligibility – Japan.
Interview – based on where he lives.
AOS is possible.
October 9, 2021 at 13:34
Hello Mr Simon.
My family and I want to appreciate you for all your help during our dv lottery Journey. We are now in the USA, actually we traveled last week and it was a smooth journey. God bless you Sir.

Dv lottery 2021 CN 25*** Hello Mr Simon.
My family and I want to appreciate you for all your help during our dv lottery Journey. We are now in the USA, actually we traveled last week and it was a smooth journey. God bless you Sir.
October 9, 2021 at 15:52
That’s awesome – welcome to the USA and best of luck!
October 9, 2021 at 14:02
Dear Brit Simon,
Would you recommend any health insurance for new immigrants? I had a look at your articles on the topic but they seem old and probably not up-to-date. Any tips on what we should do?
Thank you. Your help is priceless for new immigrants.
October 9, 2021 at 15:55
The article on healthcare and insurance recommendation is still my recommendation.
You don’t want to be in the USA without adequate insurance. An ACA plan is best, but you might not be able to get on such a plan for an activation trip or before starting work. So – in those temporary cases, there are some policies I recommend designed to bridge the gap and provide temporary cover.
October 9, 2021 at 19:04
Do you believe these insurance plans offered by VisitorsCoverage apply to LPRs? I went through their T&C and they all sound like protection is offered to Non-Immigrants only. Do you know anybody with LPR status who purchased insurance there and had an event covered by these insurances?
October 16, 2021 at 02:42
Yes – there are specific plans for LPRs
October 9, 2021 at 16:24
Hi Simon,
In our country there are available covid vaccines like, Astra zeneca and Johnsen & Jonsen. I want to take the vaccine. My question is which vaccine is currently acceptable by US government right now.
October 16, 2021 at 02:38
Both of those.
October 9, 2021 at 17:07
Hi Brit,
2022AF00031XXX, Cairo Egypt.
In May i submitted by DS-260, sent my documents and got the documentary qualified & ready for Scheduling email Last month.
After sending my DS-260, I got relocated by work to another country and got a issued a temporary work residence. I will now have to Unlock my DS-260 to add my present address as its important information and resend again the same exact Docs i sent before to KCC but adding to them is the police certificate of the current country of residence as I’ll be staying more than six month.
My Three question are:
1) After I unlock my ds-260 to update my present address and resend Docs, Will i be expecting to receive a second ” DQ / Ready for scheduling ” email from KCC ? (or not because I’ve already received one before)
2) Should i Resend all the documents again along with the PC or just the Police certificate only as a single attachment as they already have the rest of the Docs ?
3) Also, will updating the DS-260 cause any kind of Delay to my case even if I’ve received the DQ email before or my Case will be Re-processed again from the start as if i submitted it late ? I know the DS-260 Submission date is an Important factor as per Hypothesis in your last video.

Thank you Brit

Hey Brit.
2022OC13##. I’ve just been following the thread above about the new and old passports. I sent in my docs a month or so ago. I attached my old passport, new passport and the other supporting documents. I’ve put all the documents into a pdf together labelled all documents’, so it’s nice and clear
I didn’t however label the page ‘old passport’. Is that going to be an issue? The passports are scanned and laid out clear.
Should I resend? I haven’t heard back from KCC yet.

and by old, I mean the passport that I applied for the lottery in. It expired, so I had to renew.
Thanks

I doubt there would be any problem, but use your own judgement.

Hello,
Looks like the photo tool is not working (fails in Chrome and Edge and loads forever in Explorer) are there any alternatives?
Thanks!
