Hello Brit,
I am DV23 winner and I am doing adjustment of status instead of consular processing.
question 1:
I just filed the DS260 and said that I will do AOS. What are my next steps? Do I have to send the supporting documents to kcc, or just wait for my visa number to show up and then start the process of AOS?
question2:
Do I have to pay DV fees, AOS fees, or both? and where do I pay that?
Thank you.
May 21, 2022 at 15:58
Oh man. You should learn the process. Go to the link below, and STUDY the spreadsheet linked from the first post in that thread.

Hi BritSimon,
Thank you for all your information. It’s a great resource.
I’m in Sydney, Australia, and I have nominated the Sydney consulate as where I would like to interview for the 2022 Diversity Visa, OC, case number in the single digits. I have not yet received a notification of interview at either the Sydney or Melbourne consulates, or Perth either.
I am keen to get this happening obviously as soon as possible, and so was wondering whether you thought it would be worthwhile/better to change consulate to Suva/Auckland, or better to just stick it out with the Australian interviews? I have emailed KCC, spoken on the phone to Australian help, and essentially their advice has been to wait it out. But given that I have such a low case number, have submitted all necessary documentation, I am concerned that I will miss the boat if I just wait it out in Australia.
Any advice here is helpful – appreciate that you get lots of enquiries!
May 21, 2022 at 16:00
Suva is the bird in the hand. That is what I would take. Sure there is a general expectation that Sydney reopens, but the safe bet is Suva and they are being incredibly accommodating.
May 22, 2022 at 05:53
Thank you so much for your reply – I have gone through the process of changing and keeping fingers crossed!

Whats your nationality?

May 20, 2022 at 07:38
Hi Simon, I have submitted the ds 260 and in other occupations I have put UNPAID INTERNSHIP. At the question “ have you ever worked or been part of a organization…” I have put NO. But the place where I work is an association but I’m not sure the question was referred to this type of small business so I put NO.
What can I do now?
May 21, 2022 at 16:05
I don’t know. Yoga perhaps?
May 20, 2022 at 10:21
Hello,
After submitting the ds260, how long it takes more or less to be processed? thanks
May 21, 2022 at 16:06
It varies according to their backlog, staffing levels and so on.

Dear Brit,
Me and my wife received our passport back both the visa on it. We are ready to enter into USA.
There should be reason to be rejected in the port of entry?
In case of denial we can still enter as traveler (we plan 12 days to visit US)? In this case can we ask for ESTA in parallel?
Thanks,
Francesco
May 21, 2022 at 16:08
No you don’t get an ESTA. You’ll be fine. It’s not another interview at the POE.
May 20, 2022 at 11:59

Hi Simon thank you for answering my questions on your today YouTube live show . But a little bit confused
1. I have been living us since 2017 with a pending asylum, I have social security & work permit.
2. I can’t renew my passport it was expired , I can’t travel to my country or neighbor county
3. My wife was leaving back home with my kids & she won Dv 2023, my name and my kids included on her lottery application So my question is how she answer question on ds260 it says that is your spouse immigrating with you?
4. While filling ds 260 for the spouse is it possible to change interview location for me?
May 21, 2022 at 18:57
3. She could process her case and sponsor you in the USA, OR you can process with her by leaving the USA and processing in your home country or some other country. Discuss the options with your lawyer.
4. They only schedule an interview for the principal selectee. Derivatives attend that interview.
May 21, 2022 at 16:13
Regarding “is it right” – I don’t know you.
Remove leading zeros.
May 20, 2022 at 12:03
Sir, our country has named bankrupt today.I think there is a situation when a country is bankrupt that citizens of that country can’t go for employment in foreign countries and they can only visit foreign countries.will this situation affect our green card visa?(I’m a dv2023 winner)
May 21, 2022 at 16:14
This has nothing to do with your DV process.
May 20, 2022 at 12:03
Hi Brit. Keep on the good and hard work
I’d like to ask what happens to my case when US embassy here in Accra, Ghana are delaying in interview scheduling and processing?
Also what do you think I should do in this case?
Thanks you
May 21, 2022 at 16:14
Sadly there is not much you can do other than hope.
May 20, 2022 at 13:43
Hello, I recently won a DV 2023. I am married, and I filled out all of my information and that of my husband during the initial application period, but now I am pregnant, and my baby will be born on October 1st of this year. Furthermore, I am currently preparing to fill out the DS-260 application form; therefore, what should I do regarding my soon-to-be-born baby, initial information I filled out, and DS-260 information that I will fill out soon?
Are they going to consider my soon-to-be-born baby if I fill out my DS-260 application form with the same information I filled out on my initial application form, or do you have any other options you’d like to share with me?
May 21, 2022 at 16:24
Oncer your baby is born you can ask KCC to unlock your forms, add the child to each of your DS260s and add a DS260 for the child.
May 20, 2022 at 15:41
What if someone is HIV positive when filling ds260 is it right to indicate there in the form Coz you need to tell the truth. Where it’s written chronic disease?
May 21, 2022 at 16:48
HIV is not a cause of denial.
May 21, 2022 at 17:37
So I should indicate HIV as chronic illness on ds260 or I say I don’t have chronic illness
May 21, 2022 at 19:11
Tell the truth.
May 20, 2022 at 16:08
Hello Brit, please I want to know how long it takes for KCC to unlock the DS 260 after making a request to unlock
May 21, 2022 at 16:50
The time varies. Right now they are slow to respond to emails because of all the new DV2023 cases.
May 20, 2022 at 17:22
Hi Brit, I got to know that I won the DV lottery 2022 just a week ago, May 8, 2022 and submitted my DS 260 on May 12, 2022. I am afraid, that I miss the chance of scheduled interview, what do you say? My status shown that my application is with KCC right now. I also do not understand: shall I upload my documents right now, before the interview scheduled or I have to wait Welcome Letter with instructions? If right now, where do I upload it?
Appreciate your response! ))
May 21, 2022 at 16:59
I assume you mean you were selected in DV2023. This is a long process, so you haven’t lost anything yet. Your processing and chance of being interviewed depends on your case number, but we don’t know how many selectees have been selected in DV2023 so it is too soon to know anything.
May 22, 2022 at 13:36
That is all the point – that I am selected for DV 2022 and case number is 2022EU16XXX, but got to know it late, just May 8, 2022. Checked Visa Bulletin – looks current…
May 22, 2022 at 22:11
Wow that is really late. There might be a chance, you’ll have to wait and see.
May 20, 2022 at 17:43
Hi Simon,
Good Day
My Husband got selected with DV 2023 for EU. (Indian National and eligibility is My country of birth Germany and me holding Srilankan nationality)
Please help me to get clarified with below questions.
1. My Son Name and surname are entered as per his passport and birth certificate in DS 260 form under Primary applicant family section and also in the Accompany (My Son)personal details sections. I see a name mismatch with my son’s mother name in his passport comparing with my passport details. In His passport and birth certificate his Mother name(Sharmi) has surname as her Husband’s name (Gopi) but as per My (Sharmi’s) passport her Surname is her father name (XYZ). Example – passport hold Sharmi Gopi and not Sharmi XYZ. Where as In all the proof which I hold has Sharmi XYZ as my full name. So will this cause any issue in the process / interview being my husband as a primary applicant.
2. DO I need to go ahead and change the mother surname in my son’s passport?
3. If yes, then shall I submit the DS 260 with cureent passport details and once I am re issues with new passport can I submit the new passport details?
4. Next is regards the work experience for primary applicant. He is a MBA graduate and owning a business rite now. I have added his current business info in present employer and also his previous work experience since 2011. DO I need to answer “Does this job require at least 2 years of training or experience? “ as yes in all his work experience section and add the comment for each section? Inspite of he having his education eligibility met?
5. What I Need to to ans for tis for all the applicants.
“Do you seek to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of Labor?”
Thanks in advance for all you support
May 21, 2022 at 17:02
1. No
2. You can decide.
4. Answer the questions fully.
5. Yes.
May 21, 2022 at 17:54
Thank you Brit!! Great Help!!

Does anyone know how to get the police clearance from Qatar, while residing in UAE, since Qatary diplomatic mission is not yet open here? should it takes to travel to Qatar to get it?
May 21, 2022 at 17:03
Read and follow the instructions as laid out in the reciprocity page.
May 20, 2022 at 18:21
dear brit,
i am from nepal. i have been selected in the DV-2023 lottery. My full name is keshalingam abihinav. i entered keshalingam (my father’s name ) as first name and abhinav (my name ) as last name in the
E-DV Entry form.
in my passport surname has been mentioned as keshalingam. but if i enter keshalingam as the applicant’s surname in the DS-260 online form, the system says the case information you entered does not match our records. what can i do now to solve this problem? should i consult KCC ?
Thank you for taking time to read this. i look forward to hearing from you soon.
May 21, 2022 at 18:48
Last name and surname are the same thing. So – if the form needs surname you enter abihinav
May 20, 2022 at 18:45
Hi SImon.
My embassy page says:
“If you are older than 16 years of age: The original police certificate from your country of current residence and countries of previous residence. If these three items are all true, you must bring a more recent police certificate to the interview:
You are older than 16 years;
You obtained a police certificate more than one year ago; and
You still live in the country that issued the police certificate.”
1. I have been in Los Angeles for 9 months for studying with an F1 visa and in New York for 2 months for pleasure (totally less than 12 continuous months in US). Shall I submit a police certificate from California too? In another section of the travel state gov page it says that certificate from us need not to be submitted as well as certificates from states where you have resided for less than 12 months.
2. If I have a police certificate from my current country of residence issued six months ago, is it still valid? Because in my country of residence certificates are valid for less than 6 months.
May 21, 2022 at 18:49
1. Police certificates are not required for the USA.
2. For current residence country, make sure it is recent.
May 20, 2022 at 20:12
Hello Brit,
I was selected at the DV2023 Lottery and I am currently in the process of completing the DS-260 form. I have 3 questions which I hope you can help me with:
1. I was issued an H1 visa 33 years ago. Of course, I no longer have any evidence or recollection of the date it was issued. I only remember the year it was issued and I have an approximate idea of the month it was issued. Can I enter an approximate date and month?
2. The same for some certificate and diplomas. Only the start and end year are on the diplomas. Can I enter an approximate date and month?
3. My vaccination dates back to when I was a new born. Should I answer NO to the vaccination question? And if so, what explanation should I provide in the associated field?
Many thanks for your support. Your videos are of great help!
May 21, 2022 at 18:50
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No is better and enter something like “will update vaccinations at the medical”.
May 20, 2022 at 20:28
Hi Brit I hope you are doing well. I’m dv 2023 winner AF2K,
I submitted my DS260 last week but I found that I made a mistake,
I have a master degree which I listed but I forgot to mention my high school diploma should I request kcc to reopen my DS.
Thank you.
May 21, 2022 at 18:51
Personally, I would unlock and correct, yes.
May 20, 2022 at 21:12
Hello, I just want to ask about education level in DS-260 I didn’t add the high school but I did add the bachelor degree and work experience, do I need to unlock the form and update it ?
May 21, 2022 at 18:52
Personally, I would unlock and correct, yes.
May 20, 2022 at 21:20
Hello Brit!
I am Winner for 2023. I am in USA with F1 visa. I am not sure how should I proceed now I have two questions:
1. I filled DS260 and in the end while I try to sign and submit it does not get summited. I get red arrow by side of my case number but no error message (I have also sent you the screenshot in your fb page). what should I do?
2. one of my friend told me I do not have to fill up DS260, I can directly file I-485 is that true?
PS. please check your fb message to see the screenshot of error.
May 21, 2022 at 18:54
1. https://youtu.be/aWeJqaSXEEM
2. The DS260 is optional for AOS cases, but you really need to make sure you understand the whole process. Click the link below and study the information linked from the first post on that thread.

May 20, 2022 at 21:34
Sir I have another question if I’m a single girl with no courts record I should be sending only 3 documents isn’t that correct? Passport scan, birth certificate, police certificate.
May 21, 2022 at 18:55
You may need multiple police certs – I don’t know your case specifics – so read the instructions.
May 20, 2022 at 23:21
Hi Simon,
2022AS20***.
If I am in the ‘queue’ at Cairo embassy and the queue is based on case number order, how would my number rank since I would be one of the few Asia cases? Or is it based on case number regardless of region? I sent ds 260 on may 9, 2021 and DQd (the old way) on September 28, 2021.
Thanks!
May 21, 2022 at 18:55
Your number is specific to AS region.
May 21, 2022 at 19:07
Thanks for your quick reply. Does that mean in the queue for AV at Cairo embassy, there are 5 sub queues (one for each region)? And they differentiate between the CN numbers from different queues based off DQ date?
Meaning I am in an AS queue with only AS numbers ahead of me
And there is another AF Queue which is pretty full
But it’s not necessary that, say AF3000 is ahead of my CN AS20*** since I am Asia and he/she is Africa.
Sorry if I’m not being clear
May 21, 2022 at 19:08
I don’t know whether they do that or not.
May 21, 2022 at 06:05
Hi BritSimon,
For DS260 2023. There was a period of my work history (2009 – 2011), I worked for a company in my home country. However, they used to plan for a visit visa several times in order to work in Qatar. That was repeated many times during those 3 years. each visit could be 10 days or continuous 90 day. I wonder how to express this in the addresses. Because I was living in my company apartment and they had several locations. secondly, it wasn’t continuous. so work for two months, then back home for 4 weeks and then 3 months, and so on.
Can I ignore that and just give my home country address where i had the contract? I am afraid if i mentioned that then I have to bring police certificate which i can’t obtain because it was only a visit visa.
Regards
May 21, 2022 at 19:00
You weren’t residing in Qatar, just multiple business trips.
May 21, 2022 at 10:07
hello britsimon, I analysed the FY2022 ceac-2022-05-21 data released. I realised the Accra embassy accept 45 cases in every 2 months, 30 in the first month and 15 in the 2nd month. My CN which is 2022AF39098 is far from the last scheduled CN which is 20785. If they keep on at this rate, then they will schedule only 45 more cases in the last two month of the fiscal year. I think there are more than 45 cases between my CN and the last scheduled CN, but to be well informed and be more accurate about my CN being scheduled I need a data that contain all selectees CNs assigned to each consulate. Is it possible to get such data? If yes, how and where do I get it?
thank you.
May 21, 2022 at 19:02
No, but it is obvious that Accra plans to disappoint most of the selectees.
May 21, 2022 at 13:49
Hey Simon
Is it okay to have 2 people fill the I-134 for the same case number if the number derivatives are many?
May 21, 2022 at 19:04
If the sponsors income does not meet the requirement by itself, then that sponsor is unable to help you.
May 21, 2022 at 14:15
2023AF12k
Good evening . My child with whom I am registering has died. I would like to know in my ds260 at the level of “Do you have any children” if I should check yes.
May 21, 2022 at 19:04
Sorry for your loss.
You would answer no, but you may be expected to produce the birth and death certificates for the deceased child.
May 21, 2022 at 15:56
Hey Simon, my case number is 2023AS24XXX. I’m currently holding a spouse visa in the US and planning to submit AOS for my DV. Is my CN considered high?
May 21, 2022 at 19:09
Probably, yes.
May 21, 2022 at 16:37
Hi BritSimon,
sorry if I am doing a mistake but i am trying to post a question on the blog but it doesn’t show up after posting the question and telling me it is getting submitted.
any mistake i am doing? I don’t understand?

May 21, 2022 at 19:10
Exercise some patience. Messages are held for my review.
May 21, 2022 at 19:28
Dear Simon:
I hope you are doing great, my name is Anna case 2022SA000026**, I am Cuban but my wife and I are having the interview in Costa Rica. For the avoidance of public charge we emailed the embassy here and they said:
“Affidavit of support is not a requirement for DV visas.
The requirement is to present proof of your own funds and optionally you can present an employment letter”
My question is: should we follow their instructions or take an affidavit anyway?
They did not answer how much money we would need to have in the accounts.
I would appreciate your advice if this, you have helped us a lot in this journey Simon. We are eternally grateful to you.
Thank you so much in advance
May 21, 2022 at 19:56
I would do both. If you have substantial savings you may be able to satisfy the financial aspects without an I-134, but having one prepared is a worthwhile precaution. The amount of money needed if you are going to show savings only is at least $10,000 per person.
May 21, 2022 at 19:45
Hi Brit,
I am the spouse of the winner of DV 2023 EU.
You have already answered me for the below question, to have select the option YES
What I Need to ans for tis for all the applicants.
“Do you seek to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of Labor?”
Whereas if i select YES then is is asking for some explanation to enter under Explain section . Not Sure what this questions is all about and what comments to be entered.
Please share your thoughts and what comments to be added.
Thanks in advance
May 21, 2022 at 19:56
“Certification not required”.
May 21, 2022 at 20:04
Hello Brit
I applied for the lottery with a passport that will expire next September, which is the same passport that I filled out the DS 260 form with.
Is this correct ? Or do I have to renew the passport and then request to activate the form to modify the number by entering the renewed passport number ?
Since I won the lottery.
May 21, 2022 at 20:17
You can complete the DS260 with the passport you have, and then renew it before the interview.
May 21, 2022 at 20:21
Dear Sir.
thank you so much for your help God bless you.
I have another question.
in my wife’s high school certificate it says school name : (Om Salma) but on the DS260 I put (Om Salma high shcool) I added ( high school). is that a problem?
does it make any deference or correction should be made? or the translation will be enough cuz it has the name of the school : (om salma)
thanks a lot Sir
May 21, 2022 at 20:34
Hi Simon,
2022AS11k (Iran) at a small EU country. I posted something last month about them running out of visas and not getting an interview in June. Last week I got an interview for July. Also, I checked the CEAC data and a handful of AS cases between 8500-13500 were scheduled in empty embassies for July (Guangzhou, Naples, Nicosia, Mine) which to me shows they were also Iranians (I know the Guangzhou 9k was Iranian). i.e. validating my thought and showing that the reallocation of the April unused visas were influenced by embassy capacity.
Now my question:
I’m scheduled for the first week of July. As I understand, it means that there is a visa in the embassy allocated for me which would be returned if not issued by the end of July.
I wanna ask the embassy to have the interview in early June if possible. Supposing that they do accept this request and an interview is held in June (low probability, but worth a shot): what happens to my allocated July allocated visa?
a) Will it be returned back immediately,
b) Stays there for the month of July and can be issued once we enter July
c) It can be issued in June.
d)?
The embassy doesn’t have any other AS interviews for June.
I don’t know if I’m being silly for wanting the interview for 1-3 weeks earlier than the scheduled date risking the loss of the July allocated visa. I haven’t done the military service (I left the country at 16 and never traveled there) but in case they wanna scrutinise an Iranian to hell, I’m scared of 1) the retrogression involving Iran and making me un-current. 2) AS visas running out entering September, either literally or their stupid system. However, I don’t know the chances of a blowback if it does get accepted. e.g. it would invite them to run more checks since they have free time or them updating the status in June might magically make their stupid system return the visa back to KCC which is the case when cases get transferred. This would raise the issue of getting a visa number back.
Thank you
May 22, 2022 at 22:00
I doubt they will move your interview to June.
May 21, 2022 at 21:01
Hi BritSimon,
Thanks a lot for your support
My wife quite her job right after marriage. so when I had to answer the question of “Were you previously employed?” for my wife, I answered NO. because if I answered yes, I will get the hints say: “Provide the following information on all of your employers from the last ten years, starting with the most recent employer.”
As a result, as long as they don’t want more than ten years of history, I can consider my wife has no previous experience. is that right?
Similarly, I didn’t mentioned more than the past ten years of work experience for myself although I was working for 20 years? is that right? or i have to give all details for the past 20 years? or 10 years are the most enough needed history of employment?
Regards,
Ridwan
May 22, 2022 at 22:01
You detail the work experience within the timeline.
May 21, 2022 at 21:09
Hi BritSimon,
as for question: “Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law?” we had a the vaccination based on the local health program which is almost similar to most of the world countries. However, there is no official document could be obtain for that. Only for covide-19 we got 3 doses.
so is the answer for the question is NO and explain: I TOOK THE VACCINATION IN MY HOME COUNTRY WHEN I WAS A KID, AND IN UAE I GOT GOT COVID-19 3 DOSES.
Best Regards,
Ridwan
May 22, 2022 at 22:02
The question is not only about Covid vaccine, but no need to overthink this question.
May 21, 2022 at 21:15
Hello Mr. Simon
I’m Iranian and I live in Thailand.
I’m a dv2023 winner & my case number is AS16000
Do you think that according to my case number I should choose the US Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, for an interview or one of the three US embassies in Turkey, Armenia or Abu Dhabi, where the Iranians go?
May 21, 2022 at 21:19
Hi Simon,
My name is Mike and I won the 2023 green card lottery, my case is a little bit complicated. I overstayed my J1 visa, and I’m still in US. Do you think I can still get the green card or rather no. I know I can not adjust my status to have interview in US, I have to go back to my home country for interview. i will be appreciated for response. Thank you Mike
May 22, 2022 at 22:02
Depends how long you overstayed.
May 25, 2022 at 00:53
Hi Simon, thank you for your reply, can you tell me if I overstayed 16 years do i still have a chance for green card. thank you Mike
May 28, 2022 at 20:28
So that means you cannot adjust status in the USA. When you leave the USA you would start an automatic 10 year bar. You should talk to a lawyer.

Dear sir. thanks for all your help and support.
the most common question is is the affidavit of support is required for dv 2023 lottery visa? I have search a lot and they say it is not required . it’s for family based petitions. but what if the ask for it during the interview?this would be a catastrophic situation cuz it’s hard to obtain it.
thanks

Your research wasn’t very good. The CO will often ask for it in DV cases, and you use the I-134. If they ask for proof you won’t become a public charge, the I-134 is one way to meet the requirement.

But how can I get it? we are 5 members in my family and no one is willing to do it for us cuz they don’t want to take responsibility or something. so what should we do sir? should we just forget about the interview and stop or dream?

That is up to you. As I said “IF” they ask…

hi there.
My question is: I’m the main applicant and have high school diploma and that’s what i put in the DS260 2023. but my husband has a bachelor degree we put that in the ds260 but didn’t put the high school because the transcript is not available.
is that a problem?

Hello,
My question is about the education history: after completing high school I studied computer engineering for 2 years but I left it before finishing and switched to economics and finance where I’m currently studying.
In the ds-260 I mentioned the high school, I didn’t mention the university in the education history section because that is my current occupation… and also, I didn’t mentioned the engineering years because I didn’t receive any certificate/degree (because I left it).
I can’t add the Engineering years because they ask what you have received (diploma/degree/certificate) and I haven’t received anything.
Should I unlock and correct it?
Thanks

My wife won the dv 2023. CN: 2023AF13XXX. I am the husband and during the original dv entry, i was included as the spouse. My concern is; we married legally in 2019. Recently we went to make a correction on the marriage certificate at the appropriate institution concerning my wife’s father’s name. She inadvertently stated her uncle’s name as the father’s name. Affidavit was sworned and they made the correction. Signed and stamped. Is this a cause for concern?

Hey Brit!
So, I’ve filled the DS-260 about a week ago and I forgot to include my highschool in the education section but I’ve included my bachelor degree and higher certificates. My case number is 2023AF6XXX, should I open the form again to add my highschool details or is showing the certificate at the interview enough. I also have 20+ years of experience as a physician and documents to prove that.

No need to unlock.

Dear Simon,

Thank you for your immediate response for my last question about the 452 AVs.
After I got your response I made inquiry about my case status to KCC. And a week later they responded me with the following message
“Records indicate you submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the KCC. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing.
Does this message indicates that my case is processed? DOCQ/DOCC??
Thank you for your help!!!

I can’t be certain about whether this email is DOCC or DOCQ.

Hi Simon:
If we are a couple with no children, do we need to have an affidavit of support for each of us or only one for both?
May 22, 2022 at 22:12
One that covers you both.
