Hi Brit,
My wife (DV selectee) has H4 visa ( AF00041K , Egypt), will do AOS in local USCIS office when her number is current, any expectations for June VB and how the 2NL will look like.
Thanks
March 16, 2017 at 23:01
I don’t have a prediction.
March 16, 2017 at 23:23
Thanks,I asked for how 2NL will look like because the example you have in your website is for embassy interviews that has a specific day and location. Is it the same for AOS 2nl but for the nearest office?
March 17, 2017 at 00:01
No, for AOS the 2NL is simply an email from KCC. THen when you have interviews or biometrics appointments you receive a letter in the mail.
March 17, 2017 at 00:22
Appreciate your continuous help 🙂
March 16, 2017 at 21:42
Dear Simon,
Is it required to notarize certified English translations of Birth Certificates or any other documents for the interview?
Thanks in advance!
March 16, 2017 at 22:27
That depends on each embassy and standards in the country. Check the embassy specific instructions.

simon I have just received my police certificate from the UK, and my CN is AS78** I am expecting my interview to be in May or June or July in Baghdad. Just to let you know I left the UK in 2014 and never returned. Do you think my police certificate is going to be old or invalid for my interview?

It’s fine.

My wife had won in the lottery and we are waiting forbour interview. I have a question about the education requirements. She has passed a federal diploma of higher education as a restaurant manager. The international assessment is ISCED 655, that means its equivalent to a bachelors degree. What do you think? Are there any problems with the recognition of this diploma? Thank you very much
March 16, 2017 at 13:46
It is vocational, so it cannot be used.
March 16, 2017 at 14:54
In switzerland we have a dual educational system and ISCED 655 is a tertiary education. So it must be higher thand a secondary education or not? Im really curious now…
March 16, 2017 at 19:44
I don’t know the Swiss education system.
March 16, 2017 at 06:38

March 15, 2017 at 18:18

March 14, 2017 at 20:34
Hi Brit
Thanks for all your advice so far youvhave been extremely helpful. I had my interview today at the Dublin embassy and after I paid etc they went through my documents but weren’t happy with my marriage cert, I was married in Italy and need to get the civil certificate for my application.
The lady was very nice and explained we wouldn’t be interviewed until we get this, I will have this document in 3 ‘working days’ then I will contact the embassy.
My question is, is there any chance I won’t get callled back for an interview before September? The lady in the embassy stressed that this was a possibility, just wondering from your experience what you think?
Thanks again
March 14, 2017 at 20:40
They should have interviewed you anyway and let you submit the documents after the interview. What they did is not “normal”, but you will be called back.
March 14, 2017 at 20:49
That’s what I was thinking, just hope to God they call me back. They did look at my kids and said they were ok and won’t have to come back ‘if’ we get called back!
March 14, 2017 at 20:58
It’s not really a risk. Don’t worry about it.
March 14, 2017 at 21:01
Thanks, and thanks again for all the help you give it really is superb
March 14, 2017 at 20:26
Britsimon,
I’m gathering my AOS package to submit soon. I understand that I’d have to fulfill the education requirement or the work requirement.
For my case, I graduated high school in Malaysia when I was 16 years old. In Malaysia, our final year high school exam is called SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) which I passed. Would a certified translated version of the SPM certificate be sufficient to prove that I fulfilled the #1 requirement? (I saw on a few websites that passing the SPM is equivalent to a US 12 year corse of elementary and secondary education) For context, I went to kindergarten from 5-6 years of age, then primary school from 7-11, and high school from 12-16. Is that equivalent to a US 12-year course of elementary and secondary education?
I also completed Cambridge A-Levels (enrolled at a local Malaysian college after I finished high school and before I started college in the US when I was 18).
And for some reason, if all the above does not work and they’d still like to see my proof of work, would I only need an official letter of employment from my current employer (been here for 5.5 years already) stating that my current job required “two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform”??
Apologies for the long message and thank you for your help.
March 14, 2017 at 20:44
A 12 year US education gets to the point where a child can enter “college”. That is normally at 18. For you, it would include the A levels – so provide all the education documents INCLUDING A levels. Your work experience can help.
March 14, 2017 at 19:34
Hi Brit ;I have passed the interview and we were congratulated and they have taken our passport but me I haven’t bring my police record due to an error on place of brirth so we are after one day on AP.
They said “bring us this document via mail services but it will take 10 days to correct this in my country (ALGERIA).
My questions are
1- how I can explain this to US embassy?
2-If I send this document after 10 days it will be a problem?
3-Why all the family(My wife ,me and my children) is under AP after interview(the interview was yesterday)
4-Should be worry about this?
NB;I’m DV2 and my wife DV1
Thank you.
March 14, 2017 at 19:52
1. You don’t need to “explain” the 10 days.
2. No
3. The CEAC system sometimes shows AP for a short time before changing to ISSUED.
4. Does worrying help? Get on with what you need to provide.
March 14, 2017 at 18:07
Hi! Im DV1, Im already at US, but before I came here, I have discovered that my husband who is DV2 was cheating on me for years, so I want to know if I can get divorce here, and what happens with my status and if he can entry to the US
March 14, 2017 at 19:14
You can divorce in the USA. Once the DV2 enters the USA, that person’s GC is not conditional on the DV1 in any way.
March 14, 2017 at 19:21
Thanks for answering, so his process is separate from mine, and he can also bring his new couple and give her, legam status? The thing is that I dont want to be responsable for what he does in the US
March 14, 2017 at 19:32
He has the same rights as you once activated. You are not responsible for each other after divorce.
March 14, 2017 at 17:15
Hello Bright,
Please i would like your opinion on a situation of police clearance certificate from Russia.
Thus I was a student in Russian, completed the studies and took a police clearance certificate from the Ministry of interior affairs in August 2014. I left the country the same month and Year, and had never traveled back there.
1. Do you suggest i need to get a current certificate from Russia?
(Unlike my own country Ghana which such certificate only last for 6 months and new one ought to be given. But the Russian certificate does not show any records of expiring date)
2. Would there be a problem if i tender the 2014 certificate during the interview?
March 14, 2017 at 17:22
1. If it is easy to obtain a new one, that would be better
2. Some COs will accept an old cert IF you have not returned to the country since the cert was issued. BUT a new cert avoids the doubt.
March 14, 2017 at 18:12
Thanks and I am Grateful as usual
March 14, 2017 at 17:01
Hi simon
Is there any risk for Iranian lottery winners to have an end point(I mean 6300 cut off number)??
I read your article but my case is 64** and still worried because Iran is in the affected list!!
March 14, 2017 at 17:13
For Iranians, there are risks.
One risk is not getting through AP in time. Because AP is common for Iranian cases, and when it happens, it lasts around 5 months. So – cases interviewed from May onwards start to have a risk that AP cannot complete.
Additionally the travel ban is a risk. The ban is for 90 days but the intent is to improve security. If foreign governments do not co-operate with the USA regarding background checks, there is a possibility the ban will be extended for those countries. Iran is at risk for that.
Because of these two factors, a final cutoff number is not what we should be concerned about.
March 14, 2017 at 16:02
Good Day, im a winner in the DV Lottery and I have submitted my DS 260 in November 2016. I asked the KCC what is the Status of case and I recevied the message: “Your forms have been received and pending further embassy Review….” I hope everything is going the right way. What do you think? When will we receive the 2NL and when will the interview be? Thank you very much. Greetings from Switzerland. Case Nr is under 15’000.

Hi Simon! Thank you very very much for your help. Do you think im maybe to late to be scheduled or is everything ok and i just have to wait?
March 14, 2017 at 19:15
If you had read my link you would understand what their email means. Everything is OK. Patience.
March 14, 2017 at 15:40
Sorry to bother you again Simon. Can “welcome letter” be emailed or needs to be sent by post?
March 14, 2017 at 17:16
Emailed would be OK for that I guess. It only applies in Nepal – so I don’t know the specifics.
March 14, 2017 at 14:56

Hi, i applied for my diversity visa lottery in kenya and now im leaving for work in jordan what can i do in case i get selected and im in jordan
March 14, 2017 at 13:34
You would then process in Jordon. *IF* you get selected it is something you would think about.
March 14, 2017 at 11:55
Please my sister completed her application on the 1st December, 2016. Please when is she likely to go for her interview.
March 14, 2017 at 13:54
If she is current, probably in June or July.
March 14, 2017 at 10:21
Dear Simon
A friend of mine (2017AFXXXX) did his interview 3 days ago although his case was and still showing that it is still At NVC.
what did this mean?
March 14, 2017 at 14:04
That something about this story is not truthful.
March 14, 2017 at 14:22
Why should I lie.
I can provide you all the needed documents to check by yourself
March 14, 2017 at 15:15
I don’t need to check anything.
March 14, 2017 at 16:16
So… can you think of any reason for such case? It’s really weired
March 14, 2017 at 17:14
I already said. There is something wrong with the story. Inaccuracies, misunderstanding and so on. I am certain in that assessment – THAT is why I don’t need to check.
March 14, 2017 at 17:59
Thanks Anyway
I’ll keep you posted with the updates
March 14, 2017 at 10:09
thanks, so it does not affect neither my coming 2NL nor interview?
God bless you

March 14, 2017 at 09:05
hi Simon,
Just a quick question, currently am confused my case is EU201700018***
these cases are current already ,I filled my DS260 last week.
1-can i know when I will be requested to upload my Documents and pay the govs fees ?
2-what is the next step and when should I expect it ?
regards
March 14, 2017 at 14:10
1. You won’t upload documents, you will present them at the interview.
2. After your DS260 has been processed you would be called for an interview. That will not happen for several months, because you submitted so late. Plenty of time for you to read and educate yourself about the process.
March 14, 2017 at 09:00
Hi Sir
Hope you fine
Can you please send me
The work experience link?
Thanks
March 14, 2017 at 14:53

March 14, 2017 at 03:47

Dear BritSimon
My CN 2017SA17XX how much time will i usually have before the interview takes place to prepare the required documents?
Submitted ds-260 in September. In which month do you think my 2nl will be?
Thanks for all the help you provide us
March 13, 2017 at 22:47
Usually 5/6 weeks minimum.
Your 2NL may be this month (for May interview) or possibly next month (for June).
March 13, 2017 at 20:37
HELLO SIMON
It is said that scheduled apointments are countinued after 26 march for those 6 countries.
does it refer to those that have received 2NL or those that have been current?
thank you
March 13, 2017 at 22:49
Everyone. For the 6 affected countries, interviews are taking place but visas will not be issued during the ban – so the cases will be held until the ban is lifted.
March 13, 2017 at 18:41
Hi Simon,
In the upper right corner of my DS260 there is the following table:
OMB CONTROL NUMBER: 1***-***5
FORM NUMBER: DS-260
EXPIRATION DATE: 03/31/2016
ESTIMATED BURDEN: 120 MIN
What does the expiration date mean here? Or can I just ignore it?
Thank you!
March 13, 2017 at 22:54
Yes you can ignore it.
March 13, 2017 at 18:07
Hello Britt I thank you for your help and apologize for so many questions but I have tried to find more information about AOS in case of DV Lottery and only your website is the best source of information I have seen. KCC already sent me a letter about his knowledge of my AOS but they indicate the following:
“If you are in the United States, you may be eligible to apply to the Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) for adjustment of status. The option to adjust status may no longer be available to all applicants. To determine whether you are eligible to adjust your status you must contact the USCIS website http://www.uscis.gov to obtain instructions on how to make an appointment with your local USCIS office by using INFO Pass. When contacting your local CIS office they may inform you that you will not be eligible to file your adjustment until your case number is current and available for processing. Please refer to the visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov to view the current case numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month.”
Despite having read your information about the differences between AOS and CP, I still do not understand how USCIS will notify me that I am eligible? 200 cases are missing for mine and I’m worried that I still have doubts about it.
Today I called KCC and they told me the same thing, then I phoned USCIS, they just asked me if I came with Visa and I said yes and I have an open asylum process but it is not yet approved. They only answered that I could do AOS, if one of the 2 options is already approved.
The questions are:
1- I stopped finding out more and sent the I485 form with all the supports to UsCIS?
2- I risk sending them as soon as possible despite the lack of 200 numbers before me?
I really apreciate your unvaluable help!
March 13, 2017 at 18:09
I forgot ask if I have to add statements account or just proof or our employers?
March 13, 2017 at 18:32
Neither USCIS nor KCC no anyone else will tell you that you are eligible for AOS. It is up to you to understand the rules and be sure that you have followed them (by not being out of status).
For AOS specifics, I suggest the thread below.

March 13, 2017 at 18:47
Ok thank you! And how about proof of jobs or incomes?
March 13, 2017 at 22:54
It’s all in the link…
March 13, 2017 at 16:46
Hello, I have two questions:
1. Do our documents that are required for the interview need to be translated, legalized, and apostille stamped? or just translated and legalized?
2. Does the I-134 Affidavit support need to be notarized or just signed?
Thank you for your help!
March 13, 2017 at 17:47
1. That depends on procedures in your country.
2. Just signed.
March 13, 2017 at 18:08
Where would we find that for our country? I didn’t see anything referencing this on the CEAC for my country information but I have heard mixed messages from others.
March 13, 2017 at 18:30
Embassy website, country specific instructions, perhaps communication from the embassy.
March 13, 2017 at 15:41
Hi Brit,
I have a three questions about entering the US after receiving the visa. First, after entering on the visa, can you fly back out of the United States before having receiving the GC in the mail? Second, do you know approximately how long it takes for the GC to be mailed to the listed address (in NYC, if that makes a difference)? And third, are we allowed to work during the one year period we may go back abroad after initially entering the US to receive the GC?
Much appreciated!
March 13, 2017 at 16:35
1. Yes
2. 2 to 4 months
3. Yes.
March 13, 2017 at 16:44
Thank you, Simon. Your help is appreciated!

Hi simon,
As I informed you before my case number is EU00029xxx, Albania. I asked you if I can unlock my case and the KCC advised me that I should complete the new passport number of my wife. This unlock is not going to affect the interview date, this is whta they told me today on the phone. They told me that if i do not update all the information beforehand they ma tell me at the embassy to unlock the case, update the new information and then wait again for a new interview date. What do you thin I should do as I am the principal applicant.
Kind regatds,
Manu

It’s up to you. Make a choice.

Dear Simon,
I decided not to unlock the case as you suggested me on Friday. I hope I got the right decision and the communication with KCC does not affect my decision and I have no problems during the interview.
Sincerely,
Manu
