Hi Brit,
I have a question about the CNs what does a CN mean.
My CN is af44600, does it mean there are 44600 people in front of me in Africa or world wide?
Can you please explain it to me.
And when about will I have my interview?
May 12, 2015 at 19:48
CNs are regional but there are holes – better explained in this post.

May 13, 2015 at 03:40
Your education (as the derivative) does not really matter at all. Only the main selectee has to show education.
May 13, 2015 at 04:27
Thank you for your help ther another question please if you don’t mind. ..(my )middle name miss un letter like (georg) and (gerg) missing (O) how we can correct that mistake spelling of my midelle name I am his wife …….forknows my husband who was selected thank you for your time
May 13, 2015 at 05:05
Make sure the DS260 is filled in correctly – that should be OK.
May 13, 2015 at 03:18
Hi BritSimon,
I won the DV 2016 (2016AF00030***). I am currently on OPT and will be converting back to student on F1 for my PhD. I did, however, say in my DS-260 that I am currently working, but by the time my DS-260 gets looked at I will be back on my F1 student status. Will this give any concerns? I already submitted my DS-260 last night.
Also I would be going the AoS route and I have checked out the AoS spreadsheet, but I was wondering about the DV fee submission – I did not find this on the time line. Also when would it be the right time to contact my USCIS office in my region? or will the KCC let me know when my case is sent to the USCIS?
I was also wondering what you would say if I wanted to travel to my home country for a visit this summer before school starts in the fall?
May 13, 2015 at 05:06
Ask these questions in the forum where the spreadsheet is posted.
May 13, 2015 at 06:50
Hi
My case number is 2016AS000069XX. Do you have any idea if it is good base on your information from other applicants?
May 13, 2015 at 21:51
Should be a good number.
May 13, 2015 at 13:04
Dear sir,
my wife is selected for 2016 man my case number is AS000042XX what is the chances to schedule for interview ?
May 13, 2015 at 19:42
100% chance
May 13, 2015 at 14:03
Hello Brits pls i would want to know whether a selectee can allow someone else who is eligible due to his lack of education and work experience fill the ds 260 and the person issued the visa instead of the selectee
May 13, 2015 at 19:39
THe selectee cannot pass on the win to someone else – no.
May 13, 2015 at 18:09
Hello and thanks once again for your help
Now we have an official information where the number of selected for DV 2016 is around 91,563 which in this case is smaller than previous years .
Do you think that there could be any complication about this issue that may result in a smaller number of people invited for interview?
Do you think my number 2016EU00022XXX is 100% safe to be invited for interview?
For your information in my place in Kosovo are selected 244 persons.
Regards,
Alban
May 13, 2015 at 18:24
THis has nothing to do with Kosovo. It is about EU. EU has FAR fewer selectees than last year – so yes your number is safe. 100%
May 13, 2015 at 21:10
Thank you very much
May 13, 2015 at 18:54
HI BRITSIMON first i want to thank you again for your help to evry body god bless you
and ther another question about our situation right now( i ) was selected and my wife father’s name spelling uncorecte but here first name and her last name its fine what can write when i start filling ds 260 ,and if i write the right spelling in ds260 we will be safe or not???? thank you for your time
May 13, 2015 at 19:26
You will be “safer” if you enter accurate details on the DS260. Only the CO can decide if you will be approved – but I think you will be OK.
May 13, 2015 at 22:04
should i contact KCC for that wrong spelling befor i complit ds260?
May 13, 2015 at 23:42
KCC cannot change anything – just do it in the DS260.
May 13, 2015 at 22:04
Good day Britsimon,
Just a quick question. Is it possible for a country in a region to have zero selectees? I’m from Barbados and its confirmed that there are no selectees.
Is this possible? What are your thoughts about this? I’ve checked previous DV years and Barbados has always had selectees…
Can you offer any closure?
I appreciate it.. Thanks again
Kim
May 13, 2015 at 22:48
The chance of selection is very low. If not enough people enter yes it is possible to get no selectees.
May 13, 2015 at 23:00
Is there anyway of knowing how many persons applied for DV 2016 for barbados?
Anyway that being said I appreciate your honest response Sir…
I have officially given up on DV 2016 and putting it behind me…. Maybe I will try for 2017; but I highly doubt it…
Keep up the good work, and thanks again
May 13, 2015 at 23:37
They haven’t published 2016 entry numbers yet – but you can see below it has varied around 500 entries. That isn’t enough entries to statistically guarantee any winners at all.

May 14, 2015 at 07:26
Hi brit,
My case number is Af00044600 and I’m from R.D. Congo.
Do you think they will put Congo on the “except” category like Nigeria, Ethiopia and Egypt?
And how are my changes?
I’m living in Germany over 6 years.
May 14, 2015 at 07:36
No DRC will not be on the except list – you have an excellent chance.
May 14, 2015 at 07:40
Really?
Because RDC has the most winners im Afrika in DV 2016
May 14, 2015 at 08:02
Yes but their success rate will be low. There is clearly agent involvement in DRC, and when agents are involved it means the quality of the cases is very bad – leading to few approvals. Look at Ghana. All their cases are current – 4000 selectees. So far less than 300 have been approved – far more refused. So – no need to limit a country with a terrible approval rate like that.
May 14, 2015 at 15:47
Hi BritSimon,
I’ve already told you that my CN is 2016AF00053xxx.
And i’m afraid that I won’t be Current this time. Is it possible to register for the DV2017 or i shouldn’t do it ?
May 14, 2015 at 19:20
You have a good chance in DV2016 – but yes it would be wise to register in DV2017 when that opens (October)
May 14, 2015 at 16:39
hi brit ,
I heard 2015 dv lottery was a disaster cause calculating predict that it won’t exceed 40000 in africa
so now I’m confusing cause I’m winner of 2016 dv & my case number is 49xxx .
do you think I have a chance ?
thank you
May 14, 2015 at 19:23
Yes I do.
May 14, 2015 at 16:44
Hi Brit, after filling the ds 260 form how do I sign my signature electronically?
May 14, 2015 at 19:24
That should be obvious in the process. Check the instructions….
May 14, 2015 at 18:09
Hi Simon, after 9days of continious checked it still appears that i have might entered an invalid information.the strange thing is that i registered with my wife but from the 5th may i checked, she was not selected but mine keeps on giving me the same info like below….please what should i do?
The information entered is not valid. Please review the Confirmation Number, your Last/Family Name, and Year of Birth
to ensure you have entered them exactly as they appear on your DV Confirmation Page.
Several characters are often confused:
0 = zero, O = letter ‘O’, 1 = one, I = letter ‘I’ (like ‘Ice’), 6 = six, G = letter ‘G’, 8 = eight, B = letter ‘B’
May 14, 2015 at 19:27
If you are sure you are entering it correctly DoS have asked people to email [email protected] and provide the full details.
May 15, 2015 at 21:53
Hi Simon ,I did and they gave the link to check again but the results is still the same..the said I shouldn’t copy and paste and I did all this but still the same thing.please what can I do next?
May 15, 2015 at 22:24
Email me the information if you like. britsimon3 at gmail
May 15, 2015 at 13:15
HI SIMON, I want just to know about my case , I tried several time to check my result but up until now i can’t get answer only timed out , do you have any idea. Thanks
May 15, 2015 at 13:24
The session timed out issue has been fixed. So it sounds like you are doing something wrong. If you like, email your details to me and I will check it. Britsimon3 at gmail
May 15, 2015 at 14:25
I send already my details to your email just check for me pls ,
May 16, 2015 at 18:51
Hi Brit Simon
Thanks for all the time of encouragement. I really learned a lot from you. I have finally seen there is no chance for af73K.
May 16, 2015 at 19:16
🙁
Good luck for the future!!!
May 16, 2015 at 21:19
Hi Simon
My Mum won and my dad and siblings are included.
Only my mum needs to meet the educational OR experience requirements?
May 16, 2015 at 21:22
and iam over 21 and a US citizen, am i required be included in her DS-260 form as well??
May 16, 2015 at 21:35
No
May 17, 2015 at 00:35
no for including me??
May 17, 2015 at 01:45
Correct
May 18, 2015 at 19:47
what about where they ask her “how many children do you have” she has to mention me . right?? and when they ask “is your child immigrating with you” what should the answer be?
May 18, 2015 at 20:07
Yes to mention you and NO to the “is your child immigrating with you” question
May 19, 2015 at 12:10
Hi Brit..
sorry for the inconvenience…
about the education. On the 1st application she mentioned that the highest education she reached is university, but now her high school certificate is unattainable from the old records.
can she use the experience instead? ?
Or will they ask her about the certificate since she mentioned that she did go to high school? ??
Much appreciated
May 19, 2015 at 13:59
Proving work experience is a silly risk to take. She should obtain school records.
May 19, 2015 at 14:43
Okay. Thank you. .
what about social security numbers, both my parents were issued numbers before, shall they say that they already have numbers and don’t want new ones issued? ?
May 19, 2015 at 17:55
Yes – a SSN is for life – no need for new ones.
May 16, 2015 at 21:33
Correct
May 21, 2015 at 14:19
Hello..
is it okay for my dad to add education even if he lost the certificates?
And about studyinG a course abroad, does he need to add it in the addresses he lived in, even though he stayed at hotels??
May 21, 2015 at 14:27
keeping in mind that he is a derivative applicant
May 21, 2015 at 19:25
Since he is a derivative his education will not be checked. For the address, if he was there for more than a couple of months he should enter it.
May 17, 2015 at 14:51
Hi Simon , just to know if you checked my result because i did send my détails . Some of my friends they have same probleme like mine, they checked by there is no result , if you try to submit the request of conf. Number it just bring you back in the board without answer , any idea about that.
May 18, 2015 at 01:13
I don’t think I saw any email from you. Please resend
May 17, 2015 at 15:39
Hi Simon
I work police officer, Could I have a problem in the process of future about my work.
I am selected for DV 2016
Regards,
Alban
May 17, 2015 at 16:43
My profession is in jobe zone 3, SVP 6.0 to 7.0 where I have three years experience as a policeman.
However I have finished forensic science faculty where I have Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Do you think that there could be any complication for qualification?
May 17, 2015 at 17:31
So you job does not qualify you. If your education does not qualify you either – you won’t meet the requirements
May 17, 2015 at 18:11
My education is this: I have finished secondary school and university education. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
In my case I have a bachelor degree and I work policeman right now. In this case am i qualified or not for dv lottery?
I have read the conditions of eligibility. I understand must have completed secondary education or two years of work experience in a skilled occupation. In my case I have the education required.
May 17, 2015 at 22:15
If you gave the education the work experience doesn’t matter. The education requirement is about elementary and secondary school, not degrees.
May 18, 2015 at 05:01
I understand that education should be the primary and secondary schools ( a total of 12 years of schooling ) .
Also I understand to have a university degree it’s not advantage.
In my case I have the university degree and it is logical that I was not able to end the faculty if I have not finished elementary school and high school.
My question is:
Is it necessary to have only secondary education and not allowed to have education higher than high school?
I am a little concerned about this topic and I apologize to you if I made many question
May 18, 2015 at 05:08
Strictly speaking the education above the secondary level is not important. It won’t count against you, but should not count for you either. So – consider the education in your country – if your education up to secondary level lasted 12 years and that was sufficient to enter University, then that is a good sign that you would be able to meet the education requirement.
Some embassies post on their websites the requirements – have you checked that?
May 18, 2015 at 12:55
Embassy for my interview is scheduled in Skopje in Macedonia. Do u have any link for these information?
May 18, 2015 at 14:02
Google?
May 19, 2015 at 13:00
Hello Simon
I am very concerned about education required for DV Lottery.
Let me explain to you clarity my education and please give me an answer that meet the requirments or not.
I finished primary school 8 years
I finished high school 4 years
I have a college degree (bachelor 3 years)
At the time when I have continued my education was this system: 8+4+3
I have all this completed.
As I explained above elementary school+high school I attended 12 years where I was a regular student. In my country is a condition for enrollment in college.
If u can give me an answer about this?
Thank u very much for cooperation.
May 19, 2015 at 19:41
HI BRIT WHAT IMPACT HAS THIS NUMBRE OF THIS YEAR (84 000) SELECTEEs ON MY CHANCE TO GET INTERVIEW
PS: MA CASE NUMBRE IS 2016AF56XXX
THNX LOT MAN
May 19, 2015 at 21:37
Actually they have now published the selectees at 91563. AF has 45000 selectees – a very welcome reduction from the 58000 they had in DV2015. UP to now, we don’t have complete data of what the highest numbers will be as a result of this reduction – so it is too soon to be sure of how safe your number is – but in general it is clear that DV2016 will be a lot less risky than DV2015.
May 20, 2015 at 17:57
Hi brit,
I’ve got a question:
I don’t have an original birth certificate my parents lost it in DR Congo dauring the sivil war.
But I have a replacement birth certificate from the embassy in Berlin.
My name is written down, where I was born and who my parents are
Do you think it counts?
May 20, 2015 at 18:03
It might be acceptable particularly at the embassy in Germany. If you can get a replacement from DRC that would be wise.
May 25, 2015 at 17:10
Hi Simon
My sister is the winner, but she has some problem. The problem is in Family name:
Her surname is ILYOSOVA, but in winner package comes as HLYUSOVA, so she has 2 mistakes in her surname. What should she do? Could you plz give me some advice ?
Thanks beforehand.
May 26, 2015 at 15:11
They will obviously be suspicious of multiple entries. However, if that is not the case, your sister should enter her accurate name on the DS260 and explain the error at the interview.
May 27, 2015 at 15:12
Good day Simon, my CN is 2016AS11400 , is it safe ? Do I have chance to have an interview ? Thanks a lot
May 27, 2015 at 15:16
I can’t say that number is safe – we don’t have enough data yet and won’t have for several months. We will know better when we see the 2016 CEAC data – but that might not be until December.
May 28, 2015 at 09:20
Hi Simon, thanks for the updates. I have read that they do a further draw later in the year, in case the original number of selectees don’t all take their applications further. Did you have information on that? Cheers!
May 28, 2015 at 15:16
They have done that in some previous years, but it is unlikely and it is only ever a very small number of additional case numbers.
May 28, 2015 at 15:19
Hi Simon, many thanks for your reply.
May 28, 2015 at 16:02
Hi Simon
That’s why I did not win this year, I was very depressed.is there hope for re-election for a second term this year????
May 28, 2015 at 18:51
Basically no. re-try in DV2017 (October this year)
May 28, 2015 at 17:38
Hello Brit,
My case number is 2016AF285XX, and right now i am a phd student in China and my visa for china will be expired in july 2016. via my case number there is strong chance that i will do the interview before my china visa get expired in july 2016.
1) i would like to know if my current visa of china will complicate the process since that it will still be valid because i will be holding a valid student visa of china?
2) is there any chance to get interviewed in march 2016?
i changed my interview location from china to my country , and i decided to pause with my phd studies and went back home so that i can go on with other of my personal projects. . and i have been worrying during the time of the interview in my country with my passport holding a valid student visa of china may complicate the process. 3) what are your thoughts on this issues?
May 28, 2015 at 18:48
1. I don’t think so.
2. Maybe – too early to be that precise.
3. Again – too early to think about that.
May 29, 2015 at 02:53
thanks for your view point
May 28, 2015 at 18:19
Hi BritSimon, I do have to clarify some things before I submit my DS-260. Last year USCIS, issued my work authorization card, EAD that has a number on it USCIS# 1xx-2xx-6xx. Is this number an alien registration number? I don’t know if I should answer yes or no to the question regarding if I have ever been issued an alien registration number.
If I’m currently residing here until beginning of August, can I write down my phone numbers from here or do I need also another number from Romania?
I do have funds here in the States ($6000) in savings and also a savings account in Romania, but I do have a sponsor that wants to file the I-134. Is that going to be enough?
My sponsor is an American citizen but she doesn’t have a passport, does she needs to apply for one?
If I have a job offer from small business here in Wisconsin, what kind of letter do they need to give me to present at the time of the interview?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so very much for your time 🙂
May 28, 2015 at 18:44
1. Your alien number starts with an A and it should be on your visa.
2. Put a Romanian number if you plan to be back there for interview.
3. THe I134 would be worthwhile as $6000 is not enough on its own. Your sponsor does not need to apply for a passport – she can show other photo ID.
4. A job offer letter – any company should know what that means.
May 28, 2015 at 19:53
Hello Simon
I need some help from you if you can help me?
In question: If you helped someone to fill form DS-260 for my bride and my two sons who are are both under the age of 6 must respond with a yes or no because I actually have completed their forms.
I am the principal applicant.
Thank you
May 28, 2015 at 22:56
Say yes – that is normal.
June 5, 2015 at 11:54
Good day Brit
what is the hope and chance for CN 2016AFXXX50100.
And also, i want you to please publish the link for total numbers of issued and refused diversity visa ranging from 2003 – 2014 per country.I want to counter check and do a research.
Thanks to reply soon.
June 5, 2015 at 18:07
That number is still looking ok.

June 12, 2015 at 13:22
hi BritSimon,
how much i have chance with 2016AS000068XX cn from Nepal?
June 12, 2015 at 15:28
Pretty solid chance – we will know more later.
June 13, 2015 at 11:55
hello BritSimon,
i have studied 1-7 in one school and 8-10 in another school. i didn’t mentioned 1-7 class info in ds260 form. so do i need to unlock the form and add the details or its ok if i only show the documents of 1-7 class at the time of interview… please suggest.
June 13, 2015 at 16:23
If you are DV2016 you have time to unlock and correct now – which is much better.
June 13, 2015 at 19:24
Ok, I’ve been reading what other selectees wrote lately and I’m a little confused. On the DS 260, education history I’ve started with my master degree, after that, the college degree, and highschool (baccalaureate degree). Do I need to add also my education from the first grade through the eight grade? Thanks in advance
June 13, 2015 at 21:11
Yes you do. The advanced degrees are useful, but that is not what you have to prove – they are looking to confirm secondary and elementary education
June 13, 2015 at 21:26
Understood. Thank you very much Sir!
June 13, 2015 at 21:39
I know it’s a silly question but do I have to call KCC in order to unlock the DS 260? I’ve tried to do it but it seems that I can’t add another field. I feel so stupid now, I can’t believe I forgot to do that
June 13, 2015 at 21:57
Yes you email KCC to request an unlock.
June 17, 2015 at 15:22
Hallo BritSimon,
I am one of the winner of 2016. Recently I found there is a quite big calcified nodule in my chest X ray. The specialists made me sure it is not serious and it is not related to TB. I am very stressed if I be rejected because of this spot on the X ray. Since I have still time do you suggest If i do a surgery to remove that and test it to prove it is not related to TB? Do you have any suggestion to solve this problem?
June 30, 2015 at 15:12
Hello BritSimon,
I love this thread, I think you’re doing a great job.
Could I ask a question?
I was picked with a number EU201600022xxx/23xxx. I filled my application in the middle of June, but had to ask for unlocking my account. They just did it. I’m going to re-submit tomorrow the latest. My question is do you think this has an impact on my chances of getting the green card?
Do you think my number is safe?
I’m sure I won’t have interview this year – I am hoping for somewhere around April next year. Do you think it’s possible?
Thanks!
June 30, 2015 at 16:16
The resubmit wil have no impact. The interview will probably be later than April, given all EU numbers are lower this year.
June 30, 2015 at 18:21
Thank you! I can live with later than April,if a) I get invited b) it’s not sooner 🙂
Thanks again and take care!
July 5, 2015 at 21:30

HI MR BRIT IS WHAT THE NUMBER 84000 WINNER WILL IMPACT ON CN 2NL THAT WILL,?
July 12, 2015 at 02:58

The reduction in selectees will help to some extent. However, I think AF and AS regions still have too many winners for DV2016….

Hello Everybody,
I am selected (DV2016) but I made a stupid mistake while submiting my entry.
I uploaded photo older than 6 months that I already used year before. ://
Has anyone been in a situation like this? Will they deny me my visa because of this?

There have been denials on this – but those denials are very very rare. If the photo is just a little older than the 6 months and you have changed little during that time then it is normally no issue.

Photo is 12 months old and I used it for previous application also but my appereance is not changed (same hairstyle, weight etc..). Should I write to KCC about this issue and maybe send them new photo?

Do not write to them about this. Doing so would be a bad idea. The photo should be fine – and you will take new ones for the interview anyway.

Hi brit
I had a nose job done some weeks ago.
should I bring new photos to the interview for DV2016?
And will I have any problem about it?

You will need to bring new photos anyway.

Hi Simon,
I’m really appreciate what you are doing to help people like me. My CN 2016AF00014xxx and I’m married and my wife is already registered in my DS260 application but we expected to have our first baby in two weeks. Therefore i did not submit the DS260 application till now. Do you think I’m already late or I can wait till the delivery of the baby after two weeks and then I submit the DS260 after adding him?. Is there deadline to submit this DS260 application? And if I’m late in submitting my chance for visa interview decreases?
Thanks in advance!!

You can wait until the baby is born.

It won’t delay you. Your 2NL will come when your number is current, which might be in the August or possibly September published numbers.

Hi simom.
if we are a family, can we submit each DS-260 form when its done? Or do they have to be submitted altogether at once?
August 12, 2015 at 13:46
The main applicant submits them all at one time.
