Late again, but the numbers are out. Good numbers, although as I have explained before December is normally a slow month. The numbers will go faster from January.
The VB was late again, but I think this was more to do with other categories than DV. And interestingly, the official published date shown of this VB is the ninth (as was the case last month also).
Region | All DV Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed Separately | |
---|---|---|
AFRICA | 12,000 | Except: Egypt 6,000 |
ASIA | 6,000 | Except: Iran 3,000 Nepal 5,000 |
EUROPE | 8,600 | |
NORTH AMERICA (BAHAMAS) | 7 | |
OCEANIA | 800 | |
SOUTH AMERICA, and the CARIBBEAN | 850 |
This is only the THIRD VB so there are NINE more to go, so no one should be worried about the numbers…
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. This is the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month, and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs sent in two main batches, some early (around the 15th to 20th) and then some in the later part of the month. I would expect the 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month. The end of the month really means THE END OF THE MONTH. Please don’t waste my time later this month asking about 2NLs. Please. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

Hello Bruce,
This is great. I expected to see the figure 6000 for AS region based on the progress from previous numbers. If this is the pace and taking into consideration upcoming holidays, we can expect to see roughly around 8800 for January interviews, isn’t it?
October 17, 2019 at 19:45
Probably.
October 17, 2019 at 14:14
“Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk”
Then what about those from Egypt with high numbers? (close to 60000)?!
October 17, 2019 at 19:46
As I have explained before, those cases (Egypt + high numbers) have some risk.
October 17, 2019 at 14:16
Nice jump for africa
October 17, 2019 at 14:20
Hi Brit!
Did You heard about 2NL from KCC to a big case numbers like 48XXX and bigger? There are a lot of people (EU region – Russia, Ukraine and etc.) with big case numbers who recieved 2NLs. Would be glad to hear your opinion about this.)
Thank You.
October 17, 2019 at 19:47
Document letters are being send to ALL case numbers.
October 17, 2019 at 23:20
we haven’t received document request email. our case number is AS11xxx. But we will wait patiently until our number is nearer.
October 18, 2019 at 05:56
@Brit, if document letters are being sent to ALL case numbers as you state – how come I haven’t received any letter to now? Case number Case number: 2020AF00015Xxx
October 18, 2019 at 23:00
I said “being sent”. I did NOT say “have been sent”.
Patience.
October 17, 2019 at 14:54

October 17, 2019 at 14:57

October 17, 2019 at 15:06

October 17, 2019 at 15:09
Thank you Brit.
October 17, 2019 at 15:23
Hey Birt,
Plz, I have a question
Is there any point in waiting for a second draw or it’s already clear there will be no additional draws?
Thank you for your time and effort
October 17, 2019 at 20:00
No draw – you would have heard by now.
October 19, 2019 at 09:34
Hello Simon, thanks for all you do for complete strangers like myself! I have one question regarding the documents. I’m expecting my number to become current about 6 months for now. The police certificates in my country are valid for 3 months. Should I hold off on requesting one? If I sent one now would I be required to get a new one before the interview?
October 19, 2019 at 15:38
Wait a couple of months, then apply.
October 17, 2019 at 15:34
Hi, Brit. May be it is interesting for you.
I won in DV2020 from Europe, case 29***. I did not send DS-260 (I got married in September 2019, now we are waiting for a new passport for my wife with a new surname), but a few days ago I received a letter from KCC asking me to send documents as soon as possible.
October 17, 2019 at 20:03
Yes – I am aware they are sending to ALL cases.
October 17, 2019 at 22:41
Why do they (KCC) do this? I mean asking for documents even though the person didn’t submit ds-260? What’s the rationale behind this? I got CN EU51XXX, haven’t submitted anything yet.
Thank you
October 18, 2019 at 22:39
To avoid the mess that happened last year. It’s a good thing. Relax.
October 19, 2019 at 10:39
Where they send the request?
We have EU50xxx cn, we didn’t submitted yet, and yet haven’t any request from KCC…
Kindly let me know, do they sent to email address?
October 17, 2019 at 16:04
Thanks brit
In Asia region VB of 6000 has been released but only 5000 from Nepal, does CN AS202000011*** from Nepal be interviewed. KCC has mailed of document, shall i send document immediately or should i take some time to submit documents.
I will be grateful if you clarify me.
October 17, 2019 at 20:08
The 5000 does not add to the 6000.
Wait to be asked for the documents.
October 18, 2019 at 03:22
hi prakash, if KCC has send you a mail regarding you documents, send it as soon as possible so that KCC will get your document processed. for VB as Brit says, “the first three months are always slow.” so i expect your CS number will be current somewhere on “March to May”.
October 17, 2019 at 16:06
Hey Brit.
I want to ask about entry of DV 2021 with the passport issue,my friend told me that there’s exception for the people leaving out of ther country of birth because somr they’re refugees
October 17, 2019 at 20:09
A refugee without a passport could try entering with their travel papers.
October 17, 2019 at 16:14
Thank you , Brit , for the updates and explanations .
October 17, 2019 at 19:47
Hi Brit, do you know which is the highest case number interviewed for dv2019 from the EU. And what is the highest case number for this year drawn.Where can I find this information.Hello
October 17, 2019 at 20:24
DV2019 was VERY different to DV2020 – it won’t help you to look at 2019 data.
EU case numbers are over 50k for DV2020.
October 17, 2019 at 19:56
If Im expecting 2NL in January, how many months before should I be submitting ds260 and docs? thank you!
October 17, 2019 at 20:24
Now.
October 18, 2019 at 05:01
Hello Brit,
I want to know two things, for DV 2020 winners. Case number AS0002xxxx has received docs required mail from KCC. But case number AS0001xxxx has not received yet. Could you explain me the reason.

October 18, 2019 at 22:55
Documents emails are being sent to ALL Case numbers.
October 18, 2019 at 05:04

Hello Brit SIMON ,thank you for always supporting us ,my caisse number ia AF 000042XX ,you can see that I am November current selected, supposed to be interviewed in November ,I did submitted my document both for me and my wife on September 6,and received the below email , but the problem is that still I didn’t receive a 2NL yet .what would you advise me to do .you advise me to do, may I have to wait,?may i have to write for KCC? thank you for your good advice.
Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center.
Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Interviews for the DV 2020 program will begin in October 2019 and conclude on September 30, 2020. Please refer to the visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check http://www.dvlottery.state.gov.
October 18, 2019 at 23:06
You should exercise some patience. You will get a 2NL in a couple of weeks.
October 18, 2019 at 10:37

October 19, 2019 at 03:22
Exercise some patience. 2NL in the next couple of weeks.
October 18, 2019 at 17:43
Hi Simon,
I submitted DS260 on May 14th (2020EU43XXX). I know now that I rushed, but at that time I didn’t know anything about case numbers or your blog.
I wrote to KCC twice (In early June and August), asking about the status of my application, and the answer was the same: it is being processed, etc…
It’s been 5 months now, and I read here that some people with lower case numbers haven’t received an e-mail requesting the submission of scanned documents. So I calmed down… Until I saw you
wrote here that “Document letters are being send to ALL case numbers.”
1) Should I be worried that they haven’t asked for my docs? (it’s not that I have a complicated background check – I haven’t been to US or lived in other countries or had police problems…)
2) When do you think I should email to KCC and ask about by DS260 status again?
3) Is it possible to piss them off if one sends too much emails and questions to KCC? :)))
October 18, 2019 at 21:21
For God’s sake you won’t be interviewed before april/may/june, just be patient, do not ask them or brit stupid questions… This is long process, just calm down and wait your chance…
October 19, 2019 at 03:24
1. No.
2. WAIT.
3. Don’t try and find out.
October 18, 2019 at 21:36
Hey Brit,
Thanks for the update. I am 2020AF24***.
I have submitted my Ds260 a couple of days ago. Today, I have received a KCC email to send my documents with no mention of the DS260 being processed or no. I have prepared my documents with the translations early on, late May (that’s 5 months from now).
I have 2 questions.
1) do I need to renew my legal papers as much as the translations for the KCC email?
2) my number is 2020AF24***, I expect it to be current by February. Do you agree?
Thanks for your time.
I noticed that your blog was out of service for a couple of hours. Just to let you know.
Thanks again.
October 19, 2019 at 03:36
1. Normally no.
2. Yes
October 18, 2019 at 22:54
Mr.Britsimon, Good Morning? hopefully all is good.
Truly l’m over thinking on these but I believe with your opinions, I’ll be relieved.
1.My CN 2020AF66xxx ,when do you think am most likely to be scheduled for interviews?
2.I didn’t know that I won Dv2020, just yesterday, 17th Oct, KCC mailed me to start work on documentation plus a DS260.but then, they said, any document sent to KCC, will be destroyed. I totally failed to understand that.
3.I grew up having three names but one of them, not legal even not appearing on birth certificates though I included it on my educational levels since there was a provision for it..then, l left it ,it’s not even on my passport as it’s not legal one.
As I was filling my DV 2020 form , I included since it appear on the secondary certificates only. And a provision was there to fill a middle name. What could be the repacation for that? Or can I correct it?,
Honestly, Mr.Simon, any word from you, will be highly appreciated!
October 19, 2019 at 03:40
1. Summer 2020
2. They said don’t send physical documents via mail.
3. Use the other names used section of the form. Unlock and correct.
October 19, 2019 at 11:06
Mr. Brit Simon, Good evening? hopefully doing pretty good!
I just wanted to say, Thank you so much for such incredible work!
Honestly, we’re proud of you and your work nothing less.
Truly, this blog is so useful for this generation and the future one!
Incredibly, a humbling experience.
October 19, 2019 at 04:18

October 19, 2019 at 15:25
The year has just started!
October 19, 2019 at 07:56
Hi Britsimon!
I just received Email from KCC requesting for My documents (birth certificate, Police certificate, and Picture of Passport) 2 days ago. I made my police certificate 3 months ago so now it just expired on 28 September 2019 (2 weeks ago), can I send that expired police certificate to KCC first then bring the new one to the interview because my Case Number AS00011XXX, expected to be current in late January or February. If I wait for a new police certificate to be ready at the mid of November 2019, I am just afraid that it will be late for KCC to process my case. Can you give me advice? Should I send the old expired (2weeks ago) police certificate to KCC or I have to wait to get the new one in mid of November to send to KCC?
I am looking forwards to hearing from you soon.
Thanks with best regards!
October 19, 2019 at 15:33
You have time to get a new police cert – so do that.
October 19, 2019 at 09:36
Hi, Brit! Made a mistake on a Summary Information page, one letter of a name is missing, it’s not clickable to change. Further info listed correctly. Then submitted it and unlocked-same thing. KCC sends automatic messages when i text them.
Just curious if this mistake leads to disqualification.
Thanks in advance
October 19, 2019 at 15:38
No problem.
October 19, 2019 at 09:44
Hi Simon,
Many thanks for your time and effort.
Just wanted to know your opinion on my interview dates estimation and deadline for submitting supporting documents to the KCC.
Base on the current pace for the EU region I reckon that case number of the high 9k would become current in January 2020. I’d received a requesting email from the KCC a couple of weeks from now.
So here is my estimate:
– For moving to the States in August 2020 the interview must be scheduled around March 2020 the earliest. Which means that the documents shall be submitted around January 2020. Is it correct?
Thanks in advance for your help.
October 19, 2019 at 15:40
Yes
October 20, 2019 at 12:55
Great! Thank you very much!
October 19, 2019 at 13:36
Hi Brit
I have some questions regarding the confirmation mail from KCC.
1. My case number is AS0013xxx and I filled DS260 on June 2019. I haven’t received any mail from KCC yet when I expect the mail from KCC for conformation of DS260?
2. Since I from nepal when I can expect the second letter from KCC?
3. When the KCC requires the documents from me?
4 What are the chances of not sending the confirmation mail and direct send the second letter for the interview for visas?
October 19, 2019 at 16:03
1. I don’t know.
2. Spring/Summer 2020
3. I don’t know.
4. They will ask for documents.
October 19, 2019 at 15:20
Hello dear Sir,Britsimon? I am dv winner 2020. Fist of all I would like to thank you for your great commitment.
My Question is:
1. Is it possible to shift my interview Date? 2. How can I formulate it in good way?
3. Do you think there is no effect can be happen to my Visa?
Thank you.
October 19, 2019 at 16:10
1. Yes, but I generally advise against it.
2. Huh?
3. Rescheduling can introduce delay and risk.
October 19, 2019 at 20:09

hello Brit
the SA region do you think that from January it increases to an average of 400 per month or based on the rapid collection of documents they can go up even more or even declare current after May depending on those variants? Do you know what is the highest number for the region at the moment?
October 22, 2019 at 00:08
BritSimon’s prediction for cut off for Asia in December is exactly same in Visa Bulletin. Hope rest of the numbers to be same…??
October 22, 2019 at 04:39
That is unlikely.

Hiye Brit ,
Thank you for sharing these informative insights on the DV Lottery . My name is Adi and i had applied from Fiji the oceanic region . I just recieved my official letter to confirm my appointment date on the 2nd of December , 2019. As a single entry not married i was hoping if you can share with me some possible questions i will expect during the interview.
Your help is highly appreciated.

Hi Brit. My interview date is fast approaching. My greatest worry is how to demonstrate to the CO that I will get an approved health insurance within 30 days of my entry into the US.
1. How can I demonstrate?
2. Can I buy an international health insurance from my home country that can cover me in the US?
3. Can I use my sponsor who’s a friend to demonstrate that I can get the cover in the space of 30 days? Through the I-134
October 26, 2019 at 02:01
The new rule is not live yet – so it is unclear how or even IF that will be implemented. If your interview is very soon after November 3, you will be one of the first to go through that, so unfortunately there is not much I can say to advise you at this point. Keep an eye on the blog if I can find out more.

Hi Brit,
Just an update on my DV2020 journey Agaim I’m from the OC region. #OC6xx. After 2 days from release of VB for Dec interviews, I rcvd my 2NL from KCC and later in the afternoon of the same day I got an email from the embassy in my country. Wasn’t expecting it to move this fast but hey I am happy and thankful though?. My interview is scheduled on the 1st week of Dec.
Just wanted to thank u most sincerely Brit for all your help and patience. Thanking also all those that shared their experiences too.
This blog site has really helped me greatly in my journey, in understanding the process and providing the required documents back to KCC.
My journey is not over yet. I will definitely be back to share my interview experience.
Good luck to all of us!! Keep the faith and pls Read Brits FQ’s.
Cheers.
Mas
October 27, 2019 at 18:17
Best of luck for the interview. Do look into the new healthcare requirement.
October 28, 2019 at 13:23
Thank u Sir Brit. Yes I have taken that onboard too and thnx for your constant updates. Btw I am betting for my team England to win the Rugby Worldcup in Japan?.
Cheers.

Hello Brit,
Thank you for your always prompt answer to my questions.
I realized that I answered wrongly my ds-260 application. At question of previous lived addresses anywhere since 16, I answered all my domestic moved addresses in my country. But I never lived anywhere out of my country since 16 years old.
1. So, I need to apply KCC for unlock my ds-260 application or not?
2. Does it affect to my interview badly?
3. My son is 18 years old this year, does he need to fill out DS-1810 application regarding selective service system when complete ds-260?
October 30, 2019 at 04:05
1. You have not made the scenario clear.
3. He does not complete the form until in the USA
October 30, 2019 at 07:09
First question is unclear?
On DS260 form, I answered wrongly on one question. This question is about previous addresses . “Have you lived anywhere other than this address since the age of sixteen?
I answered “yes, “, then wrote addresses of my home country where I lived.
In fact, I have not address where i lived in other countries.
So what shall I do? I need to inform to KCC and unlock my ds-260 form ?
Or it is no problem, does not affect my visa?
Please advice me
October 30, 2019 at 23:56
