People have started receiving their 2NLs for June 2017 interviews. It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times. Whilst cases are mostly current, the date of DS260 submission will mean that some cases will not be scheduled for May interviews, and will wait until a later month.

Dear sir ,
according to last visa bulletin my case was current and i got my second letter as well. My spouse’s last name in DS260 is “Kuinkel” but in my second letter it is written as “kuikel”. i am little worried, whether it is fine or should i expect corrected second letter. If it is to correct how can I do? hope to hear back soon.
April 25, 2017 at 03:27
It is spelled how YOU spelled it on the eDV entry. As long as the DS260 is correct, its no problem.
April 25, 2017 at 06:09
Hi brit

Hello BritSimon
I do have a nephew won his 2017 DV and was surprised that he has not received his letter and his case number is 2017AF307xx
When I checked his DS 260 and found DS 260 was not resubmitted after being unlocked. So, I helped him to resubmit it on April 20, 2017.
What is the chance for him to get a 2NL?
He doesn’t speak English really and never tell me about.
April 25, 2017 at 08:43
Dear Brit
How many case number can take second letter and can aspect second draw winners to take second letter. waiting your opinion.
April 25, 2017 at 13:10
Almost all regions are current (meaning all cases can be interviewed). That includes 2nd draw
April 25, 2017 at 09:27
Thank you Britsimon!
You site has been quite helpful and, no doubt, it will continue to be even more helpful. Following your posts and comments enabled me to make some corrections, predict my 2NL and wait without fretting. DS-260 form submitted first on 26 July 2016. Unlocked once after consulting your site and resubmitted on 25 Jan 2017.

April 25, 2017 at 19:55
Hi Simon,
OC9XX
Received 2NL yesterday. Submitted May. Unlocked January.
Unfortunately we can’t make our early June interview in Auckland as my wife will be overseas so we’ve been in touch with the embassy here to reschedule.
Cheers
April 25, 2017 at 20:20
Dear Brit. So I am filing for AOS and recently checked on the USCIS website to see the estimated processing times for AOS. It seems for my local field office(the New York City one), is still processing cases from April 2016. My question is at this rate, will they be able to process this year’s submissions before 30 September i.e for DV2017 winners like me. I will be able to stay in the US until early August after which I have to go to my home country.
Thank you for your help.
April 26, 2017 at 00:07
my case number is AF35xxx
April 26, 2017 at 01:43
DV cases do not follow those published AoS timelines
April 28, 2017 at 23:10
Ndeyp Nash makorokoto!Almost the same case number like i had when I got selected in 2015.Moved to the US late last year from Mzansi but had my interview at home.Brits gives outstoutstanding advice on this plartform.Enough respect to him.
April 26, 2017 at 00:32
Hi Brit, my cousin played the 2017-dv by sending over 200 entries, fortunately she was selected.Does she stand a chance to be issued a visa after going through multiple entries?
April 26, 2017 at 01:38
I hope not.
April 27, 2017 at 19:08
Hi brit,
the instruction says “multiple entry will disqualify from the lottery”, what makes you doubt for disqualification??
April 28, 2017 at 00:21
Because some liars are smarter than others.
April 27, 2017 at 14:44
A friend of mine and myself have not yet received our second letter. Submitted in September, 2016 and never unlock. Case number is 2017af143**
Is this normal Brit? We both KCC and they said it’s still in processing.
April 28, 2017 at 00:23
No that is not normal. There must be something causing the delay (probably slow background checks)
April 26, 2017 at 02:45
Hi bri, my interview is for June 6.from Ethiopia cn af000029*** my questions are.
1. Is it mandatory to register for DHL if yes how.
2. What form my sponsor should fill? I-130 or I -134? Or other? What are the minimum requirements should he fulfill?. Thanks sir for your kind advise.
April 26, 2017 at 15:07
1. Follow instructions from the embassy.

April 26, 2017 at 03:00
Hi Brit,
Being DV-2017 winner on 2nd draw (september), I sent DS-260 by mid September, 2016 unlocked and sent again in December, 2016. But still 2NL is not coming. Is it normal? I have mailed twice to KCC (on 16th March and 24th April). In both months I had replies saying “pending further embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing”. As per your website information, I thought it comes in this batch, but it didn’t come. Please advice.
April 26, 2017 at 15:04
Did you check the ESC site? Do that!
April 26, 2017 at 15:42
Yes, I checked ESC site as well. No change, shows 1st NL. Is there someone from 2nd draw getting 2nd NL’s?
April 26, 2017 at 16:31
Yes. Phone KCC and ask why there is a delay in your interview scheduling.
April 26, 2017 at 18:57
Dear Mr.Brit. Thank you. I called KCC, after checking our case (provided all details by me), the lady said the case is not yet completed process to schedule for interview and asked to check next month after 15th. I hope we’ll have good news next month. Thank you. Will share with your once we’ll have that 🙂
April 26, 2017 at 04:18
Sorry, forgot to mention. Case No: 2017EU00014XXX
April 26, 2017 at 06:23
Dear Brit,
I also got my 2nd letter for early June 2017 interview. When I created an account to register the appointment, the time of interview shown in the website is not same as the one indicated in 2nd letter (it shows a wrong date for several years ago!). Do you have any idea about this issue?
April 26, 2017 at 15:01
Just go on the date on the 2NL
April 26, 2017 at 07:21
Hi,
My interview for DV-2017 is on May 5. I have a friend in new york.
In my form DS-260, i have put New york as a place I will go after I get visa. For some reason, he is out of contact and I had to find another person to “welcome ” me. I found another friend from Los Angeles. He sent me the letter just today. Now, do i have to change my DS 260 for that? FYI, I am going to New York, Can I just go to new york, regardless of where my ‘sponsor’ lives? And, does it affect where my green card will be mailed to ???
Thanks!
April 26, 2017 at 07:25
sorry: forgot to tell you interview location is KATHMANDU
April 26, 2017 at 15:01
In KDU they are concerned with who will welcome you – but that person can be someone you know well in a different state.
April 26, 2017 at 08:45
Hello Simon,
OC13XX
Received 2NL yesterday, submitted DS260 in late September and haven’t unlocked
interview is middle of July.
April 26, 2017 at 12:16
Do you think there will be more 2NLs coming in the next few days for June interviews?
April 26, 2017 at 14:34
No
April 27, 2017 at 10:02
WHEN DID YOU SUBMIT YOUR ds260 and what is your case number?
April 26, 2017 at 15:51
My wife had won dv. And we got married. My question is in my letter benifitiary is none. What does benifitiary mean. Is that Normal
April 26, 2017 at 16:31
The beneficiary means the spouse or children. If you married after the DV entry it is normal that your name is not on the 2NL.
April 26, 2017 at 21:51
My wife has filled ds260 as a single and we got married after .we have been waiting for second letter ,hopefully will get this may .my question is Can I go along with her or have to wait for a year or more? If yes then please give me your time to guide me.
April 26, 2017 at 23:31
If you have been added to her case you will be given a visa at the same time as her.
April 27, 2017 at 09:28
Your wife enclude you in ds260? If not you will not get the visa. You must husband in ds260. She has to open and fill your name as husband i ds260.

My Interview on June 5, I,m sudaneese, my case No is 35xxx
Thanks alot Mr simon for your encouragement us.
April 28, 2017 at 04:04
HI… Simon.
My interview in Khartoum was scheduled for 5th June and I want to ask the embassy to change the interview time. The reason I sat for the high school secondary exam and the result will appear after the June months.
Is this normal change or risk…..
????????
April 28, 2017 at 04:37
It’s a risk – but possible.
April 28, 2017 at 06:50
Assuming that I entered the same day 5th june, is it possible for the Consul to give me the chance to enter my file administrative procedures to bring the certificate or possible to get rejected.
??????
April 28, 2017 at 13:58
They would normally put you on AP waiting for the certificate.
April 28, 2017 at 21:40
Thanks Simon
April 28, 2017 at 07:31
Sir, I have my interview in the middle of May. we have a newly born baby 5 months old. I have not added him in the DS 260, can I ask the officer to add him ? can I get the visa for my child?
April 28, 2017 at 13:58
Why did you not add the child already?? You make a simple thing complicated!
Speak to the embassy before the interview and explain what you haven’t done.
April 28, 2017 at 18:29
Honestly I was thinking if I request unlock it may cause troubles and influence my chance to get the visa. I just realized I have made the silliest mistake ever
April 28, 2017 at 19:32
Yes you did./ Hopefully the embassy will advise you on how to sort it out.
April 28, 2017 at 12:45
Please can tell if there is a mistake somewhere with my case; case number AF00015***, first dv submitted 19 September. i unlock it and later submitted on 20 January 2017. Still no 2nl. please be specific to, is there anything wrong with my case. Am from Ghana. Am really really really worried.
Again can i sent another dv 260 forms may they didn’t received the first one from me?
April 28, 2017 at 13:54
Contact KCC and ask them.
April 28, 2017 at 15:12
hi brit
thank you for your usual response . this is dj from ethiopia . i received my 2NL on the 24th and finished my application on may 20 and never opened it . they schelduled it for early june but however when i try to register my appointment on the https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-et/iv website which is mandatory the date registered on the system and the 2NL are different ( it says my schedule is on 17 June 2005 ,7:30 EAT which is invalid ), i try to reschedule it but they denied me and they said i should be there on the actual date on the letter and that there might be an error on the system . do you think this might cause a problem for me.
April 28, 2017 at 17:34
No
April 28, 2017 at 15:16
HI Brit
DJ from Ethiopia. people say there is no requirement from the US embassy in Addis Ababa about Affidavit of Support or showing any financial means at the interview , do you think that is possible ? other Ethiopians might comment as well.
April 28, 2017 at 17:33
Some people are asked. If you want to be as prepared as possible, prepare financial support documents.
April 29, 2017 at 02:10
Dear Brit,
Markos from Ethiopia.
As I heard from my bro who is also DV2017 winner that he didn’t have asked about AOS.Simply the questions @ z embassy were “who is going to welcome u in USA & What’s ur relationship to him/her?”.
* Anyways what preparation steps shall we have for AOS?
* what do u mean by Financial Support Documents?
Thank u Brit.

Hello Brit
I am from Nepal case no 2017AS46** and My interview is on May 1st. While reviewing through document I found out My sponsor address is a new one in Welcome letter. The street address, zip code and city has been changed but the state is the same. My Dsform has the old address and welcome letter has the new one. What shall i do?? Help needed… I would explain it all in interview or get the welcome letter with old address. Confused and worried situation.
April 28, 2017 at 17:32
Explain and correct the information at the interview.
April 28, 2017 at 17:54
Okay. I would do that. And Brit Welcome letter with new address would be fine for interview?? Or need to get the old address re-written and then explain??
April 28, 2017 at 19:33
Just relax. It’s all fine. Discuss in the interview and tell the truth – that’s all.
April 28, 2017 at 17:40
Hi Simon,
My case number is 2017AF0007××× from Ghana. I submitted my ds260 in march 2017 and have not yet received my 2NL.
Is it normal?
April 28, 2017 at 19:34
Yes. You waited 10 months to submit your DS260 – so you caused a delay. Now you just have to wait.
April 29, 2017 at 12:05
Hello Simon, Quick question, I’m gathering the police certificates from different countries and a lot of people say the Apostille is not needed, do you have an idea if this is the case ? In many countries getting an apostille is an extra step which I would like to avoid if possible.
April 29, 2017 at 14:45
It depends on the interviewing embassy – so follow their instructions.
April 30, 2017 at 07:38
Dear Brit, I had my medical check three days ago, during the check they asked me if I took any psychological drugs, I told them that I used to take anti depressant due to dysthemia(mild depression) at 2009 for four months , then again last year for three months then I stopped it by the doctor’s order on November 2016.
They asked me to get a medical report from my doctor, The doctor tell me that I’m Ok now and I don’t have that problem any more and he will mention that in the report and no need to worry, while others told me that this might be disqualify from getting the Visa, What do you think?
April 30, 2017 at 14:10
It is not a problem on normal medical grounds, but the doctor may believe there is a problem on public charge grounds. But if he said there is no need to worry – I would suggest you listen to him!
April 30, 2017 at 12:52
Hallo Brit,
I’m a 2017 DV winner and my interview is scheduled end of June. My intention was to travel with my wife and two children. But my son who turned 18 last January is not sure to move to US and doesn’t even wat to go through the process. My question is what will happen if he decides not to proceed with the process? wil that disqualify all of us? Thank you in advance for your support!
April 30, 2017 at 14:02
It won’t disqualify all of you, no. You will just pay more to sponsor him later.
April 30, 2017 at 14:43
Dear Simon
I want to ask if dv2 (Spouse)and dv3(sons) visas are deducted from the number of visas assigned to each country.
Thanks in advance
April 30, 2017 at 15:07
Derivatives are counted yes, BUT there is no country with visas “assigned” to it.

Hi Brit
Lots of respect for you . a quick question . Do i need to get an official welcome letter from the family who intend to welcome me in the US , for the embassy at the interview. thanks
May 1, 2017 at 14:52
It depends on the embassy – pretty much only Nepal asks for that.
May 1, 2017 at 17:36
Hi Brit, please how do I check my case if am current or not

May 2, 2017 at 03:59
Hi Mr Brit Simon.
I appreciate your help and support to people.
I have confused in one question, as different sources give me different information.
Recently, I have received my DV visa on my passport. At the embassy I have paid $330 and $205 medical exam fee.
Could you please tell me whether should I pay $220 to USCIS ?
Gratefully
Beka
May 2, 2017 at 06:17
Once approved you pay the $220 fee for production of the Green Card.
May 2, 2017 at 06:19
Hi Brit
I finally receive my Second Letter which was updated on the 24th May
Thanks for Everything. May God Bless you
May 2, 2017 at 13:56
can all the regions go current this year?
May 2, 2017 at 14:48
All regions have gone current – but a few countries are being limited. Whether they go current or not – we will need to wait and see.
May 2, 2017 at 16:45
What are the chances for those limited countries to go current? What’s your say on this?
May 2, 2017 at 16:49
I don’t know.
May 2, 2017 at 18:51
Hi Brit,
Thanks as always for your numerous guides that have always helped.
Now, I have one issue bothering my mind. Where one wants to give birth after having been issued the visa following the win, I want to know (if you can help with the following):
1. What the cost might be
2. Does the country have anything in place as a way of support for a new entrant (being a DV lottery winner)
Where one is yet to obtain the visa,
3. What would the CO require to grant the expecting mother (i.e. the primary applicant) the visa to enable her have the baby in USA?
May 2, 2017 at 19:48
1. The costs of childbirth without health insurance would be LARGE. So – what you should be thinking about is the cost of good health insurance. Healthcare.gov is a good start.
2. No – nothing specific to DV winners – and in general the USA is not a “welfare state”.
3. https://britsimonsays.com/how-to-add-a-newborn-child-to-the-dv-case/
May 2, 2017 at 21:30
Thank you. Your responses are well received. Thanks
1. Please, how can one sign onto the Healthcare.gov?
2. At what stage of the pregnancy is it too late to sign onto that scheme?
I am asking these questions because, the entry will be in a few days to a week to the delivering of the baby
May 2, 2017 at 23:56
1. Try it and see.
2. About 10 minutes before the birth!!! But seriously – most women need pre-natal care – so you would need the insurance for that.
May 4, 2017 at 17:55
Hi Brit,
Thanks for the tips and all. I don’t really understand your answers to my latter questions about how to join the scheme and all. But I still appreciate you for the good work you have always done.
