2NLs are starting to be sent for March interviews.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
*** please for our willing scrapers – let’s get scraping (as we can then identify the cases that have been scheduled, and that tells us how many interviews are being scheduled per embassy/region ***
https://dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/login.html
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.

Hello Brit,
Would be nice to include the scraper url in the articles for convenience purposes
January 23, 2018 at 17:48
OK.
January 23, 2018 at 17:43
Hi Brit, it is possible for someone to win the DV lottery twice?
January 23, 2018 at 17:45
Yes.
January 23, 2018 at 17:52
”As we can then identify the cases that have been scheduled” Is it those cases below EU 13800 or might be above that number?
Thanks
January 23, 2018 at 18:11
Below current numbers.
January 23, 2018 at 18:52

January 23, 2018 at 19:30
Hi Brit, I received the mail this afternoon and I have a couple of very dumb questions, on the dv site there is the time and the day of my interview, I’m from Italy and for me is a two day process the first medical examination and the second one is the interview itself, the day showed on the dv site is the first or the second?
The other question is about the confirmation of the appointment, on the dv site there is nothing about it but on the supplement by post for Naples (https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/NPL_Naples.pdf) there is the step 1 where it asks me to confirm, but there is something wrong because when I try to register on the site it asks me if I need to register for an appointment but I already have the appointment and everything is really unclear. On the supplement you can also see why I asked you the first question because it says that I need to be there at 8 am for the medical examination but the appointment is at 9 am!
January 23, 2018 at 19:42
The appointment you have is your interview. You have to schedule the medical yourself. The link you sent has a button to get the medical instructions.
As for registering – you are basically just creating a profile for a courier. You have the appointment already.
January 23, 2018 at 19:44
Got mine March 1 Zimbabwe
January 23, 2018 at 19:48
Hi Brit,
Can I travel to the States whilst I wait for my GC or I need to have it before travelling?
January 23, 2018 at 19:57
Onc e you have been approved they give you a visa. You travel on that visa. THen when you enter they start producing your GC, but if you need to travel before you get the GC itself you can show the visa.
January 23, 2018 at 20:07
I received my 2NL today.. Thanks so much Brit
January 23, 2018 at 20:22
Dear Brit i received my 2NL today 2018AF15xxx and i have tried to register for the interview in my embassy in NAIROBI but it is instructing me that ‘The Immigrant Visa case number provided is not ready to schedule an appointment.’
i dont understand what this means because u received my 2NL Jst a few hours ago.
Kindly shed some light….thanks in advance
January 23, 2018 at 21:45
Wait a few days and try again.
February 12, 2018 at 18:52
Interesting! I understand that when you are current and your ds260 submitted and processed you will get you 2nl with all the appointment details. But now I see that you can log in and pick/book you interview time !!! Is that possible ?
February 12, 2018 at 19:00
No. KCC book the times. The embassies that have booking systems provide that for “other” visa types.
January 23, 2018 at 20:27
It isn’t possible to get access to the website
https://dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/login.html
January 23, 2018 at 21:12
Why not?
January 23, 2018 at 21:35
It works for me.
January 23, 2018 at 20:54
Hi Brit good day what will do if I can’t fine the confirmation letter that send to me after I had filled my ds260 form am I to go with it

Any theory is correct
in your view that the owners of AF 51k them luck this year
January 23, 2018 at 21:33
I don’t think I have ever said AF52K is “safe”. But in any case – wait and see.
January 24, 2018 at 00:47
Hi Simon
I’ve received my 2nl for March oc7**
I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about their “sponsor” etc. I can’t find anything that states I need a sponsor. Have I missed a crucial element here?
Also … I punched in a few thousand ‘I’m not a robot’ things for you last time …. can you post a link to the one you want done now?
Thanks for everything
January 24, 2018 at 00:56
All cases have a need to show financial means (if asked). Some embassies ask about a host, others ask for bank statements or an I-134. This will explain – https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
Sydney rarely ask anything.
https://dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/login.html
January 25, 2018 at 21:27
Hi Simon,
Do you need to have all financial means(host, bank statments, I-134)?
Or one of them is enough if that is acceptable?
Thanks.

January 24, 2018 at 11:27
Hello Simon,
I’m Mounia from Morocco. I received my 2NL and i’m trying to go through the first step. I click on “Register”. They ask me if it’s your first time applying for a visa. Whether i answer “yes” or “no”, it leads nowhere.
https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/CSB_Casablanca.pdf
I’m confused and would really appreciate if you could help me.
Thank you for all your time and efforts.
January 24, 2018 at 15:01
I don’t have any experience with that site. Try a different browser.
January 24, 2018 at 11:34
greet you mister. what a great site i just seen here. i have read all your articles i could find but please clarify me. Around which month is my number having a chance? 2018AF4677x. you are doing a good work mister. thank you.
January 24, 2018 at 14:59
Wait and see.
January 24, 2018 at 20:54
But do I have a chance at all? Please
January 24, 2018 at 11:59
Hello Brit i just checked my status at the link you gave me and it changed from @NVC to Administrative proceesing. Does that mean i am scheduled?
January 24, 2018 at 14:58
Possibly. It is unusual to see AP before the interview. Is your interview in Moscow?
January 24, 2018 at 15:33
No, it is in Dakar
January 24, 2018 at 15:40
Interesting. So – I have not noticed that before.
January 24, 2018 at 13:24

January 24, 2018 at 14:51
July
January 24, 2018 at 13:54
Hello.
I would like to thank you.
Yesterday my parents had their interview and they are approved.
I was constantly using your website as a guide.
We are from Europe.
Thanks again!!!!!!
January 24, 2018 at 14:51
Congratulations!!
January 24, 2018 at 16:34
so can i change my interview place befor sending 2nl dose it couse any risk
January 24, 2018 at 16:44
Your interview is scheduled based on your current address. So – if you have moved to another country, and if you haven’t received the 2NL you ask to unlock your DS260 and change the address. Then you ask KCC to update the embassy they will choose for you.
January 24, 2018 at 17:36
Hello Brit,
I am looking at CEAC Data charts and there is something new. What does “Transit” mean? It is in turquoise color.
Thanks
January 24, 2018 at 17:51
“In Transit”
This status is shown for a brief period when KCC has scheduled the interview, and transferred the case to the embassy. However, the embassy has not yet updated CEAC to acknowledge they have received the case.
January 24, 2018 at 18:00
Oh, ok. Thank you, Rxy! There is also marginal value in the first, third, fourth and fifth thousand. Does that mean the same thing? Is there A miscommuncation between KCC and embassies lasting several months?
January 24, 2018 at 19:11
No, these are people with low case numbers that for some reason delayed submission of their paperwork and KCC couldn’t schedule their interview until yesterday.
January 24, 2018 at 18:01
However, the data doesnt seem to look good for us… the respose rate is frightening high- quite comparable with those of the recent years, and the refusal rate is low…. so the agency theory seems less and less likely…
January 24, 2018 at 18:40
Do we know how many visas have been issued so far over all. The chart is not working for me.
January 24, 2018 at 19:13
Charts do not provide that information explicitly. If you want to calculate approximate number, I’m afraid you need to download and parse csv files with raw data.
January 24, 2018 at 20:02
I calculated it. 3,995 visas have been issued till now, given the derivative rate 2.3
January 24, 2018 at 20:05
1,737 visas without derivatives.
January 24, 2018 at 18:47
You are trying to judge this based on a few days of data. That’s not possible. You have to be patient.
January 24, 2018 at 19:18
but doesnt the data show the process of the past 4 month? I mean, we are nearly half way into the process, im not sure why we cant draw any conclusions from this?
January 24, 2018 at 20:12
I honestly dont get the “few days of data” thing. It shows data starting from september, doesnt it?
January 24, 2018 at 20:18
Yes, but the changes that you referred to (response rate) has only been available since we started seeing the CEAC data.
January 24, 2018 at 20:25
ahh, okay. but then, i dont understand what was wrong with my judgment, stayting that for the past 4 month, the response rate is comparible with previous years and the refusal rate is low… if bad agents were involved, we should be able to see their influence throughout the whole process, including the first 4 month, no? what am i overseeing?
January 24, 2018 at 20:53
I think you are expecting there to be a much more dramatic change than I expect (or hope for). It is much more subtle than that (if we see it at all), and therefore hard to detect in any case – and almost impossible to detect at this point.
Remember a couple of hundred extra non responses at lower ranges would only move the response rate by a tiny percentage, but would increase the possible max CN by 1 or 2 thousand because the approval rate per 1000 (taking into account density, response rate, refusal rate) is so low.
I know you want certainty. You can’t get certainty.
January 24, 2018 at 22:11
so frustrating… i might only miss the cutoff by about 140 cases… so I hoped we’d might be able to see some evidence of higher non response rates already…
January 24, 2018 at 22:20
The estimates are not precise enough to know for certain until the VB is published in July. Remember my 2015 AF example – I was mathematically correct – but nevertheless the cutoff was lower than it should have been. Other years have seen the opposite (like seeing NACARA allowance used). Really – we won’t know until mid July.
January 25, 2018 at 00:42
Do you thing that for us with very high cn like myself NACARA is the only hope? It’s so frustrating Andy the wait is sooooo long!!!
January 25, 2018 at 00:44
I don’t know what will happen. No one knows. You just have to wait and see.
January 25, 2018 at 11:56
Im not expecting a much more dramatic change, however there is a dramatic change- in the other direction. Response rate in current numbers is twice as low as in the previous year. If that doesnt tell us anything, honestly I am wondering what we are scraping data for exactly? It has done nothing but irritate so far. For numbers in the below 30ies, whether they will have their interview in may, june or july is not super relevant and will be clear within the next VB anyways, also without scraping. And for numbers higher than that, we need to wait until july to know for sure anyways, so scraping is also not relevant. Basically, if you interested in the data scraping in the beginning and in the end might makes sense- anything else is basically useless.
January 25, 2018 at 17:11
Thanks.
January 24, 2018 at 19:23
I’m just getting worried that the data is not looking good for the big cn????
January 25, 2018 at 00:45
Above comment it’s me Tom. By mistake almost wrote my email address ???
January 25, 2018 at 00:48
Yes – I realized. My comment remains the same.
January 25, 2018 at 00:52
Thanks- I’m so annoying
I really appreciate your response ?
January 25, 2018 at 12:45
forget about the data, Tom. Our only hope is agency involvement. It’s tricky for us high EU cases. We have read Brits post, which sounds like there is still a high chance for us, and it is wonderful that he didnt want to crash our hopes completly. However, even if his post sounds confident, there is no evidence that this is correct, and Brit is assuming just as much as we are. If there is no agency involvement, cutoff at 3300 is simply correct. Given a few aberrations here and there, it could either be a bit lower or a bit higher, but no significant changes are to expect. We can apperently continue looking at data, but it wont tell us anything- so for us it is useless. I just find it a bit critical for high EU cases who are not as involved in this Blog as we are- given Brits blog post, they still think they have a high chance, which is simply not correct. There is no evidence in agency involvement, in fact the respnse rate this year so far is twice as high as in previous years and the refusal rate is even lower. Even if statistically neglibile aberrations will make a high diffrence in the end- these aberations need to be in favor for us- so far they are not. Maybe it would be better if Brit made that a bit clearer in his analysis of high EU case numbers.
January 25, 2018 at 12:52
Also-as being a sociologist, i would like to add another assumption that would lead to an increase of respnses this year- despite Brits idea of Trump being a push factor, I rather see him as a pull factor. He stands for a strict immigration policy, the DV lottery might be cancelled after this year, and chances to immigrate to the US become less (even if only rhetoricaly). People will not want to miss their chances this year, as they think that this might be the only chance that is left.
January 25, 2018 at 13:28
Really!!!! How do you come up with this result. This is very sad . No hope
January 25, 2018 at 15:10
Tom and Rxy, approval rate is quite low for now… nothing to worry, i have high cn myself. You can see charts or even cvs files. There is nothing to worry. So we know that eu don\t go current but Rxy you are 140 cases above cn33000, stop being hopeless and wait till next vb. After this vb we will have more holes and approval rate will be lower than now. After april Vb maybe we can see clearer through numbers. Do not panic others with higher cn.
January 25, 2018 at 17:13
That could be true – it could go both ways.
January 25, 2018 at 14:53
I find Brit’s analysis pretty clear. Considering this blog’s audience, it’s very understandable that he is cautious and tries to keep expectations low. However, it’s not even necessary to read between the lines when he says:
“So – it is not hard to imagine the number being MUCH higher than 33000. I would be SHOCKED if the number was anything like 33000 – I still expect the final number to be in the 36/37 range”
You should make a choice: Believe in the man’s expertise and follow his repeated personal advice to you to relax – or don’t. Either way: I find your pessimism quite pathetic. If you are that certain that you won’t get a visa, than let go and move on. You can only be positively surprised by the 15th of July.
January 25, 2018 at 15:11
but thats it. everyone who reads that thinks the liklihood of that happening is high- but that is not actually the case. Of course I hope that he turns out to be right about the theory that agents registered entries- however even holes are lesser than in previous years and mass entires from agents would also increase the number of holes, because they would usually make mistakes in creating the entires, use bad pictures, etc. There is really no other evidence that agents were involved besides the fact that countries with traditional high entries have higher entries this year. Call me pessimistic, but that for me is simply not enough to “be shocked” if the number was anything like 33000.
January 25, 2018 at 16:16
I wish my number was 33xxx
Try and have my cn
January 25, 2018 at 17:17
We *are* all calling you pessimistic. You might be right – you might not. But you are basing your assumptions on your own lack of understanding, and publishing those assumptions as FACT. No more of that please.
January 25, 2018 at 15:41
Rxy Please don’t speak, that data is useless. I don’t know how did you get to this assumtion. It’s useless if you don’t know how to look at it. And while reading your post I think that you read it and use it in wrong way. How the hell did you got response rate twice as high as previous years? How do you define response rate? This data is crucial for people like we, unsure about how the things gonna end. It will give better look much earlier, this will let us know more accurate prediction, let us know how things are going with VB progress, and let us make some analysis. It’s not useless and don’t say so. I don’t know how this will end for us, but next year there will be next group of people, asking questions and every data like this will be very useful. I still hope that EU cn will be higher than 33k. This may be higher, may be lower. We don’t know. But thx to this scraping we know what are the holes, nr data, no shows (or backlog) and many for sure not useless info. The final outcome may differ from current analysis, thx to them each month we can be little more accurate. But we won’t be 100% sure until july.
Regards
January 25, 2018 at 15:45
no carlos, the data is not crucial for people like us. We will only know in july by looking at the VB.The data might be useful for next years winner- yes. But thats why I said that we actually only need 2 sets ofdata. 1 from the beginning and 1 from the end.
January 25, 2018 at 16:07
Well, i’m not going to argue with you. You have your opinion i have my. But don’t try to tell everyone that’s your is right and things some of us are doing are pointless. I state that this is very important and gives a lot of information. Thx to this work you will see f.e. how will the non response rate behave in density drop range, does it drop as the hole is rising. Thx to this trend line you can make some approximations about future VB. Without it you can wait for every 15th of the month. Maybe this will be better for you, and won’t stress you so much. I have higher CN than yours, but I’m not saying it’s pointless. If you can’t stand the stress think about something else and try positive thinking.
January 25, 2018 at 17:18
Exactly.
January 25, 2018 at 16:25
yes, thanks to that we might be able to detect that- by july, when we have enough data. By july however, the only thing we need to do is looking at the VB to know 100%
January 25, 2018 at 17:02
“in fact the respnse rate this year so far is twice as high as in previous years and the refusal rate is even lower. ”
This is complete NONSENSE. I have the data for several years, and I can tell you that is utter rubbish.
I get that you are feeling down about the data, and you are entitled to be as negative as you want – but it is cruel to infect others with your negativity – ESPECIALLY since you don’t have a good grasp of what is going on.
Now – I do think you would be better served putting this to the back of your mind. You seem to have decided to ignore everything I have tried to explain, and that you will miss the cutoff. What I am saying is that this outcome is FAR from certain. And believe me – if I don’t know – you most certainly don’t know. So – take a break. Resolve to not check the VB for some months, and stop looking at the data.
January 25, 2018 at 17:26
Are you being sarcastic in the first 2 sentence or you mean it? I’m not getting it, sorry
January 25, 2018 at 17:44
I quote a statement that Rxy wrote. Then I point out that his statement is complete nonsense. Isn’t that clear?
January 25, 2018 at 17:54
Yes , yes it’s clear now. I had to read it couple times. I hadn’t payed attention. Sorry and thank you for your time
January 25, 2018 at 20:58
I calculated the EU non response rate from 2017 (to the end of the year). It was 45%. The same rate for this year (up to 13800) is 46%. In other words the response rate is LOWER this year (so far). I do expect the response rate to grow (it always does) but the effect of that will be limited this year because of the DS260 change they made. So really – this nonsense about doubling and unremitting negativity needs to stop. Again – I am NOT certain where the cutoff will come – but I am quite certain that the panicking is unfounded, and based on some lack of understanding on your part. I am also certain that neither you *nor anyone else* can ascertain anything about the agent effect yet, because the interview volumes up to now have been dominated by the U2 countries.
January 25, 2018 at 22:38
THank you for your explanation ! It is very helpful the way you explain it. Even though I don’t have too much hope, but I’m trying to understand the dv process .
February 2, 2018 at 11:53
“I do expect the response rate to grow (it always does) but the effect of that will be limited this year because of the DS260 change they made”
What change did they do that the response growth wouldn´t affect us that much?
February 2, 2018 at 14:59
The way they process DS260s means there is no backlog this year. Search my site for backlog if you want to know more.
February 2, 2018 at 12:12
I am also confused. In another post, Brit said ” DV2015 NR rate for EU was 48%.”. Currently, we are at 46% and he is expecting the response rate to grow. Soooo, not sure what that means for us high numbers, but certainly nothing too positive.
February 2, 2018 at 15:09
Wow you are drifting back to negative land again aren’t you. Read this:
https://britsimonsays.com/interview-capacity-visa-bulletin-pace/comment-page-1/#comment-101261
February 2, 2018 at 15:13
Ahhh, okay. So the resopnse rate will actually not grow. May I ask you what overall % of non-responses you used to get to 33k?
February 2, 2018 at 15:20
My method was fully explained in that article. I used the selectee to approved rate – that includes everything (response, refusal, now show etc).

Hi Simon
My interview is on March 1st with CN AF 16*** from DRC and right now I got a big problem because I have been studying in Nairobi from 03 May 2016 to 22 may 2017 and that’s the day I left the country because I decided to come back to DRC in order to start the DV lottery process. The time I was studying in Kenya, I applied for the pipul’s pass/student visas but this didn’t came out. Now in Congo someone told me that I need a police records from Kenya and I called back in Kenya they said right now is so impossible to get a police records there because you do not have your pipul’s pass.
So my questions are:
1. my visa gonna be denied because of that? Because in my DS 260 I have mentioned that I was a student in Kenya from 03 May 2016 to 22 may 2017.
2. What can you advise me right now?
Please Brit I really need your HELP
January 25, 2018 at 06:00
1. Possibly.
2. Read the reciprocity page for Kenya and follow the instructions EXACTLY, documenting the steps you take. Do that immediately.

Hi Brit,
According to how things go, response rate, HOLES and everything, do you think EU will have a good jump in the next VB?
January 25, 2018 at 05:58

Hi Simone;
I am from Africa and I am living in Saudi Arabia I am preparing and checking the needed documents I spent 6 months in UAE after I turned 16 based on the official website of Travel.State.Gov police certificate is not required unless I stayed one year after 16 but according to embassy requirement in Saudi it is needed from any country after turned 16, now I could not get the police certificate from UAE because they need copy of my resident ID at that time which I don’t have it, I appreciate your advice
January 25, 2018 at 15:10
Follow the DV instructions & reciprocity page.
January 25, 2018 at 19:57
Hi Simon
I have followed the instructions on Kenya reciprocity page in order to get the police records unfortunately they said I can not have one because I do not have the student pass even though I have applied but I didn’t have enough time to wait for it ,so they can’t do anything for me.
1. The police records that I will have here in Congo is not enough to show at my interview?
2. Is there another way to convince the consular officer?
3. Can I stop believing that I will have a visa?
January 25, 2018 at 20:08
It sounds like you just need to wait for the police cert. As I understand it, you are saying you will get the police cert, just not in time for the interview. In that case, attend the interview anyway, and the CO will probably then tell you to provide the police cert as soon as possible after the interview. Obviously, the outcome can only be determined by the CO.

January 30, 2018 at 00:54
hi brit
I entered US on 24th Sep 2017, I received my green card almost at the last days of October, however I had left the united states since 30th of November to get my Ph.d from Cairo and I will get a document implies that i defended the thesis and awarded the degree, my flight back to America will be on 24th Feb.
I got a job there, even I received the W2 by mail from my boss , I have an address, bank account, identification card, emails from a community college about a program that i enrolled in.
My question might I face a problem at the airport that it cause the loss of LPR status and the green card?
thank you for time and consideration
January 30, 2018 at 06:31
Nothing you mentioned presents a risk.
January 31, 2018 at 11:48
Dear Simon,
Kindly I need to ask if I renewed my passport after receiving the immigration visa (DV visa). Is this will make any problem when I enter US or any problem to issue the Green Card?
Thanks for your efforts to help us.
January 31, 2018 at 14:55
No problem.
January 31, 2018 at 19:13
If my case number is closer to the cut off number of the month (e.g. EU13750 for March) does this mean that my interview will be scheduled closer to the end of the month?
January 31, 2018 at 20:16
No.
February 3, 2018 at 15:56
Hi.Brit,
Just interested to know if you still think OC will not go current this year.
I am OC16xx. Is OC1300 still your ‘safe zone’… given the progress made so far.
Many thanks.
February 3, 2018 at 16:53
The pace (progress made so far) has nothing to do with the quota. My calculations have not changed – so I expect the cutoff to fall between 1400 and 1500 (maybe 1550 at most). The only thing that would increase that number is more selectees than usual deciding they don’t want to live in America.
