Hi Simon,
My passport with the embassy since one month under AP,
1- Now i have business trip , so can I request it until finish my trip, or will causes problem to me ?
2- My (wife & child’s) taken approval & their visas already issued except me , but i’m afraid to take long time in this process & already i have previous B1/B2 on my passport , so i can travel with them under that to prepare everything in US before schools & back to continue the AP with the embassy ? but also i don’t know they canceled my B1/B2 as the same my family or not ?
sorry for the complex post but i’m too concern.
May 20, 2018 at 09:46
1. It may cause delay later.
2. Ask the embassy.

Thanks bro.

Brit, I’m the main applicant,AF41xxx dv 2018, my husband and I have different nationalities, he’s been in and out my country for the last 3 years on tourist visa.
1.Does he need to apply for residence of my country before the interview?
2. What documents does he need from his country for the interview?
May 21, 2018 at 02:30
1. No.
2. Read the instructions.
May 20, 2018 at 09:49
@Manny. 1st I’m a female so I’m not “dude ” 2nd I assume that’s cause you live in China…. RESIDENCY = WHERE YOU LIVE . Not where you’re from….. do your research before spreading false information. You don’t choose , it is assigned based on the place where you live
May 20, 2018 at 09:59
Ever considered starting your own blog instead of policing here?
May 20, 2018 at 13:26
@Pete i replied with facts to a question someone had and someone felt the need to interfere with false information so excuse me for helping people and correcting those who misinform people who are on the same boat as me. So if you have a problem with that, I could care less. This a free platform where I can communicate and Simon hasn’t emitted any objection to my interventions so… Thanks for the input…

May 20, 2018 at 10:25
Hello,
I won the DV2019 lottery together with my 20 year old daughter.
1.) What would happen if she had a baby before the interview and remained unmarried? Could the baby be included although grandchildren are normally not counted as derivatives? Or would she have to petition for her child from the US?
2.) What about an adopted child from an orphanage abroad? As far as I understand an adopted child is considered a child by US immigration only after two years of physical and legal custody. DV2019 lottery winners must have the visa stamp in their passport no later than September 30 th 2019. Would an adoptive child be excluded if the custody started later than October 2017?
My soon to be adopted child will have a German birthcertificate with my name and no information about the adoption at all. No difference ist made between birth children and adopted children. But this is Germany and not the US…
Thank you for your help! I already learned a lot since Tuesday!
May 20, 2018 at 15:38
1. I;m not certain – but I think later sponsorship (2 year process)
3. The two years is required at the interview.
May 21, 2018 at 06:14
Thanks a lot. This was very helpful .
May 20, 2018 at 10:42
We should find sponser before ds260 or after ds260 form ????
May 20, 2018 at 15:44
Either can work. You would need a HOST address in some countries, but a sponsor completing an I-134 doesn’t need to be in the DS260
May 20, 2018 at 12:56
Dear brit.
My interview is on end may. My husband wants to quit job to find another. It may be with one month notice or not. Will it be a problem for the interview ???? If they ask if he working or not ??
Thanks
May 20, 2018 at 15:49
No problem.
May 20, 2018 at 13:20
Hi Brit,
Many thanks for your support Brit. Our visa has been granted. Just one more question, We have put Maryland as the destination address in US in DS260 form and that is what we told in the interview too. We are now thinking of going to New Jersey. Does it affect us in any way if we change the destination address in US when we land there? Does it necessarily have to be the same state as in mentioned in the form ?

May 20, 2018 at 14:49
Hi! Ok, so here comes a lengthy one.
I get confused at the education part of DS 260. I have a High school diploma (4 years), Bachelor’s degree (3 years), 1 non-degree exchange program certificate from when I studied in the US for a year, 1 Master’s degree (1 year). My first problem is with question “Number of Educational Institutions Attended: ” Is it 3 (high school + bachelor + master’s)? or 4 (hs + bachelor + non-degree exchange certificate + master’s)?
Also, I went to Belgium for my Master’s studies that were supposed to last a year only, and I lived there for 11 months, attended all of my classes and passed like 80% of my classes. I then moved back to my home country and for the next three years I traveled back to Belgium a couple of times for a couple of days to pass the remaining classes. So when listing attendance dates in DS 260 for master’s studies, do I need to cite I studied 2013-2016? (Because I got my diploma in 2016) I’m afraid it might look like I lived there for 3 years in which case I would have to get a police certificate from Belgium. And I didn’t, I only lived there for 11 months, a year tops.
I hope I’ll get a reply. Thanks in advance!
Best regards
May 20, 2018 at 16:02
1. They are asking about INSTITUTIONS – names of colleges or schools. You would think a someone with a masters could work that out.
2. List the course dates accurately. You should get a police cert for Belgium anyway because a CO can ask for it even just under 1 year.
May 20, 2018 at 16:40
No need for condescending remarks, but based on some of your other replies, I can see that that might be slightly beyond your reach. English is not my native language, which is why I got confused.
Thanks anyway! 🙂
May 20, 2018 at 17:23
Your English seems fine.
May 20, 2018 at 23:20
good one ,Sir Mr BritSimmon
May 20, 2018 at 16:10
how to find certificate of naturalization number On Certificate of birth?
May 20, 2018 at 16:19
I don’t know.
May 20, 2018 at 16:24
Just FYI in case you wish to know and are not yet aware, the forum on immigration dot com continues to be under attack! My virus scanner has been blocking at least half a dozen intrusion attempts whenever I try to access the forum. Just had yet another such alert! Yesterday it seemed fine after the forum had been reinstated from a backup, but shortly after I started getting the same alerts.
May 20, 2018 at 16:25
Yes I know – and admins have been informed.
May 20, 2018 at 16:39
Hi Simon, I have a query about the email address. in the entrant of DV lottery i wrote one email address.i got selected in 2019 dv. now i dont want to use same email id in ds260 form..should i write the same email or can i change it.
May 20, 2018 at 17:24
Change it in the DS260.
May 20, 2018 at 18:20
If I havent received all required vaccines will that be a problem? I have received the required vaccines from my country and they are not the same with those from us.
May 20, 2018 at 18:27
No problem. Any needed vaccines can be administered at the medical.
May 20, 2018 at 20:05
Meaning I will be vaccinated?
May 20, 2018 at 20:54
Yes
May 20, 2018 at 18:24
What generally happens if you can’t get a visa medical booked in enough time before the interview? I have to cancel my current medical because of work and getting slots (again) prior to my interview may prove to be tricky….
May 20, 2018 at 18:28
You would attend your interview, but there would be a delay in issuance until you provide the medical.
May 20, 2018 at 18:31
Thanks- would you need to go back for another interview or would it simply change status once the US registered physicians couriered it across?
May 20, 2018 at 18:45
No second interview.
May 21, 2018 at 12:11
US medicals in the UK are only available 3.5 weeks – they say they are exceptionally busy. My medical will be 2 weeks after my interview- to be clear – I can’t reschedule my interview?
May 21, 2018 at 13:55
To be clear – you shouldn’t reschedule. Just provide the medical after the interview.
May 22, 2018 at 21:52
Final question- how does an applicant know if they have “passed” a medical?
May 22, 2018 at 22:47
If the physician found something of concern, they would talk about it.
May 20, 2018 at 19:15
Bsr m simon and especially thank you for all your advice. Really, thank you. I am from Cameroon 23 ××× my interview was held Tuesday, May 15 at the Embassy of Cameroon with success. 2. When i check my status at ceac.stave.gov it keeps saying. AT NVC, what does mean?
3. How safe is my 2018AF45xxx case number?
May 20, 2018 at 20:55

2. That you are waiting.
3. Wait and see.

May 20, 2018 at 22:57
hi Brit. I am a winner of DV 2018 and my case number is AF00035xxx and have not receive a letter of appointment, do I have a chance of interview?

May 21, 2018 at 01:19
I have to do my medical exam on tuesday but I have an herpes crisis it’s not too visible should I postpone my medical appointment til I’m good or I can go it’s fine ?
May 21, 2018 at 02:29
That is not a reason for denial.
May 21, 2018 at 01:44
Hi Simon- I filled dv2019 applications in for myself and my wife, and my wife’s entry was selected EU17xxx. I completed her entry in her married name but her passport is in her maiden name. Correct me if I’m wrong- she just has to complete ds260 with the maiden name as the name on her passport and married name under ‘known by another name’- so this isn’t really a problem despite my mistake? Thank you
May 21, 2018 at 02:31
No problem. But – think about how she would like to be known in the USA.
May 21, 2018 at 02:15
Dear Brit,
Shall I understand that I need to give all the (standard which are mentioned in the official dv website) supporting documents to a certain window in the day of the interview, but what about additional like bank statement and I-134 shall I keep them with me until the consular ask me about it?
As you know sometimes extra documents providing could cause problems!
Thanx
May 21, 2018 at 02:32
Take additional documents and produce them if asked.
May 21, 2018 at 02:41
Thanks for your swift response Simon- with a 17xxx case number I guess then we have plenty of time to get her passport updates to married name before completing ds260, that is probably the better solution
May 21, 2018 at 02:54
Hi Brit,
Another question that I would like to have your view. I am from Nepal living in Australia and my visa has been approved from the U.S. Consulate Sydney. I am planning to visit my home country before I depart to United States. So effectively my point of departure will be from Nepal. Should it be of any concern at the time of entry in the United states.
thank you in advance. you have been such a great help to me.

May 21, 2018 at 04:22
Hi Brit,
Please advise me to be safe.
May 21, 2018 at 04:37
You shouldn’t proceed. You broke the rules, you lied. You will be disqualified.
May 21, 2018 at 04:48
Hi, I do not mention the child details anywhere, isn’t that ok?
May 21, 2018 at 04:50
No.
May 21, 2018 at 07:43

I am a green card holder

@Dana, thanks.
May 21, 2018 at 04:59
Hi Simon
I know this one is very odd, maybe not. Maybe I missed the answer to this already from your FAQ list.
Here it is:
I have been selected 2019EU18xxx. (2 boys (4 & 5 years old and a wife)
I expect the interview around june according to past statistics, maybe a bit earlier.
We are on the verge of divorce with my wife after so many complicated issues. She doesn’t want to come with me. I am ok with that now. But my two boys, I want to get their visas and green cards so that they can get good education in the future. I can at least keep them with me for 6 months (summer schools or anything till they get older and choose where they want to live)
So the question is: On my ds260, all four of us are on the list, can I complete everything as it is and then wife does’t attend the interview but kids do? is there any issue with that?
Many thanks
May 21, 2018 at 16:26
You can do that, but they will expect you to show custody papers for the children because the GC is to LIVE in the USA, not visit.
May 21, 2018 at 05:18
hi,
I had applied for Australia student visaI along with my husband as a dependent in 2016 but the visa was refused. Can it cause negative result in my interview since we both have sticker of file no sticked on Passport cover?
May 21, 2018 at 16:13
No. That was Australia. It’s a different country.
May 21, 2018 at 07:56
Sir, can i re-submit my DS260? i want to do my interview in USA NEW york. i filled the interview in Guangzhou China but i changed my.mind, i would like to go interview in NEW york, what should i.do?? its DV 2019, and i might get my.interview NEXT year july based on last year VB.
May 21, 2018 at 16:10
You generally interview where you live. So – unless you live in New York, you can’t just choose to live there. If you enter the USA between now and when your number is current – you can possibly adjust status (i.e. process in the USA) BUT you have to be careful since you have now filed your DS260 and therefore declared immigrant intent. You really could mess the whole thing up. Unless you are sure what you are doing, the safer option is CP.
Please slow down and think. You really did not need to file your DS260 so fast – so don’t make your next move until you know more.
May 22, 2018 at 06:54
i regret it, I did it so fast Because i was so.excited and i follow All the instructions which is filling the ds 260 form, Now i might risk my B1/B2 Visa.. not risk, its definitely gone. i cant go Back to US This winter 🙁 . tho i Wish that i can get the greencard next year.. but it is also risky Because my CN is AS10000 plus.. Its a Trap..
anyway, what is CP?
May 22, 2018 at 14:01
Consular processing.
May 21, 2018 at 08:44
Hi Brit,
My number came up in the DV 2019 lottery, 2019EU11XXX. With this number and based on all your info and analysis, I expect to interview sometime between January – March 2019.
My current company put me into the H1B lottery – and I also got that! If I entered the US on a H1B – most likely in January 2019 (which might be close to my interview), I think this could compromise my Diversity Visa case, and I want to avoid that. I am torn. Should I get an attorney?
Appreciate your advice if you’ve seen this type of thing before. Thank you.
May 21, 2018 at 14:14
My situation was identical. I entered the USA on my H1 visa while waiting for our number to become current, and then I adjusted status to the DV GC a few months later.
May 21, 2018 at 08:49
Hello Sir, I can arrange 20k USD on my bank, how can i show my money as sponsor ?is it possible ?

Dear Brit,
My husband won the lottery this year (Netherlands being the country of charge). I (the wife) hold Peruvian and Dutch nationality. I have the following questions:
1. I understand I need to get a police certificate from my home country Peru where lived until I was 20 years old. How recent it should be? Because if I get it now, we might need to get a new one right before the interview or even before departing to the US? Our case number is 2019EU10XXX
2. I also studied and lived in the USA for more then 1 year. Do I need to get a police certificate also from the USA? I read somewhere that US residents do not need it, but I want to make sure.
3. I currently live in the Netherlands, so I will get a recent police certificate from this country too.
Last question is our number too high?
thank you in advance!
May 21, 2018 at 14:09
1. Don’t get one yet – you won’t be interviewed for months.
2. No
3. Correct.
4. No

1. Yes
2. Possibly.
3. You interview where you live.
May 21, 2018 at 21:17
Thank you, Britt for your quick response. Could you please help me answer more?
1. What documents I need to bring to interview?
2. My spouse got rejected the US visa twice before 10 years. Will it affect?
3. When Can I make the police reports please? If I make in mid August, will that be accepted at interview?
4. When do you think we will have our interview?
Thanks in advance,
Shyam
May 21, 2018 at 21:48
1. Read the FAQ
2. Probably not (it depends why she was refused).
3. Yes – but a little later would be better.
4. I don’t know – there is time to wait and learn.
May 21, 2018 at 11:20
Hello Sir, I have a question I couldnt find here. So I was selected for green card and judgning by number, my interview will be around december-january. My passport is valid until november 2019, so do I need to extend my passport and if I do, do you know if that is going to be a problem when I get to interview? Thank you so much
May 21, 2018 at 13:59
I would recommend you renew your passport nearer the interview – and take old and new passports to the interview.
May 21, 2018 at 16:16
Thank you very much. Many thanks on behalf of all of us here who you help everyday!

The application with an mistake has won – what to do
So it turned out that when I was filling out an application for my wife, instead of her year of birth I pointed out my own, saw it only on the saved file after confirmation. And her application won! Please tell me, what to do in this case?
Thanks in advance for the answer.
May 21, 2018 at 13:58
Correct it on the DS260.
May 21, 2018 at 12:04
Hello Dear Brit my name is Kidanu and i am the winner of DV2018 and with case No 201824xxx my interview is June 5/2018. my question is i fill my DS 260 as single and i have wife. but before a year, my wife have been applied for Non immigrant visa and refused. For one year we had separated and now we are together that is why i can’t fill the form with hear. please advice me what i have to say if the visa officer ask me my marital status? Is their any problem if i say i am marred now? and also could they found any data concerning my name?
thank you
May 21, 2018 at 13:58
So you lied about your marital status and are wondering if everything will be OK. No – you have a serious problem. Honesty is very important in this process. I can’t (won’t) help you dig yourself out of the mess. You should leave the visa for someone who understands the truth.
May 21, 2018 at 13:09
Hi Simon
I have read your blog almost daily and its immensley helpful.
However i need to clarify educational document requirements. I am Australian interview pending 12 June.
I have obtained my Grade 12 Higher School Certificate and Transcript Authorised from Education Dept.
I have a Degree and got my transcript results again from the University.
My question is-
– do i need to obtain my Grade 10 transcript?
– do i need my Degree Certificate?
Or are the documents i have sufficient to demonstrate requirements.
Thanks
Mike
May 21, 2018 at 13:52
Grade 12 and degree proof. But in general, carrying additional documents to the interview is wise.

Hi Brit,
In my high school certificate there is an error with my birthday (done from the institution). Something like from 10.01 to 01.10 of the same year. What can be done in this case?
Thank you a lot.
May 21, 2018 at 16:34
You simply need to assure the CO (i.e. be prepared to prove it) that the education document is YOURS.
May 21, 2018 at 15:50
Hi britisimon
I am a winner DVlottery2018,
I passed the interview on 26/3 and on 11/4 they wrote to me ready in my case.
my question is:
What is the difference between Administrative Processing and ready.

In your case – no difference. Both statuses mean you need to wait.

Hi Brit,
Can I apply for non immigrant Visa while waiting for my number to become current ?

Yes, but your chances of getting a NIV may be lower since you have applied for an immigrant visa.

What’s happened to the message forum for supermom? It went a bit funky last week and now appears to be down. Wanted to see if everything was ok!

Thay are fighting some sort of hacking attack, so have taken the forum offline for a while.

Oh no! That’s awful. I hope it’s back up soon then.

Hi,
This is Abdul Hadi,
My question might be so weird, I have filled and submitted my application for Diversity Visa but did not print out the application on that time, now I have totally forgotten about the exact date of my birth which I put on while filling the application.
Now I am being selected and when I called the relevant office number they are asking me to provide them my exact date of birth but I do have my Case Number as well as the Confirmation Number given to me when I submitted my application.
So please instruct me what to do?
I highly appreciate your help.
Thank you

Remember your date of birth.
