Hi Brit
Is 7 IGCSEs & 2 AS levels equivalent to US high school diploma? I’m currently in final year in university.
September 2, 2023 at 09:47
I don’t know. It varies by country.
September 2, 2023 at 20:17
Brit, as dv2023 is about to reach it cap, that is 55000 visas, can you please advise if those already had a successful interview and verbally advised by the embassy that they are successful and passports collected by embassy.. does that mean they are secured or do they still need to worry as they dont have their visas formally stamped
September 3, 2023 at 16:58
Nothing is certain until a visa is in their hands.
September 2, 2023 at 23:20
Hi Simon, Can I apply for the DV lottery if I am in my last year of high school? I won’t have the diploma at the time of application but I will by the time results are announced. If yes, would I select highschool no degree or highschool degree? Thankyou
September 3, 2023 at 16:59
Yes.
You select the most accurate choice.
September 3, 2023 at 03:02
Hi simon
My mom won the dv lottery and me and my brother are going with her
There was a typo in our names just switched letters and idk how to fix it should i email the embassy please help
September 3, 2023 at 17:01
You have to be more clear. Is the misspelling on a DS260 or on a printed visa?
September 3, 2023 at 04:36
Hello, simon, I had my interview on 27th of august the CFO put me on 221g administrative processing and ticked required documents to be submitted passport and gave me paper with questions I have answered all the questions and submitted the same day.a day later they emailed another form with four questions the title of the pdf was administrative processing passport they were basically asking the expected port of entry and where I am visiting. so, here is my question what does this indicate ? do they processed my 221g and applying passport waiver or they doing processing 221g and passport waiver concurrently?
September 3, 2023 at 17:30
I can’t tell you what they will do. All you can do is wait.
September 3, 2023 at 05:12
Hi Simon, I contacted KCC to unlock my DS-260 to update my travel document and they did. Right after resubmitting I found out I made a mistake on my date of completion of my degree by 2 days. I wrote to KCC to verify if my case has been processed and I was informed it has. Do I have to unlock again? My case is current now.
September 3, 2023 at 17:30
No need to unlock for that.
September 9, 2023 at 06:51
I submitted my ds260 application for the 2024SA 4***and realized that under the Work and Education section where they asked if you travelled in the last 5 years I am not seeing any option (yes, no) highlighted as being answered. I am the primary applicant. I did travel in the last five years. However, for my spouse I am seeing it filled out in the form. Do I need to make the change to my form? Is this going to be considered as an incomplete form? Can you please advise?
Also based on the case number can you give insight on when you think it will be scheduled for interview?
Thank you very much.
September 9, 2023 at 14:43
Your number is quite high, so it will be in the final months, if at all.
You probably selected “no” and that is why the travel section is not shown.
I would suggest you unlock and correct that.
September 3, 2023 at 08:33
Hello Brit Simon. Thanks for the insights you continue to give regarding the DV journey. I have a difficult question, i’m a dv2021 plaintiff -goodluck. I want to know if you know how many goodluck plaintiffs are from the Nairobi post. Thank you.
September 3, 2023 at 17:32
I don’t know.
September 3, 2023 at 17:49
Hi Mr Brit, if you have high school certificates and you are unemployed, will you be denied a visa for that. Thank you
September 3, 2023 at 22:05
No. Everyone moving to America quits their job in their home country.
September 4, 2023 at 00:03
Ok thank you. I actually have I high school certificate but selected unemployed as my occupation but I sell cosmetic products and human hair online and I don’t own a shop. If I’m asked what I do for a living, should I just tell them I’m unemployed as on my DS260 form or I go ahead and tell them I sell cosmetic products online? Is is possible that they will ask me for business documents? Thank you
September 4, 2023 at 00:22
If you say you do that for a living, yes they may well ask for proof.
September 4, 2023 at 00:04
Hello Simon
Am Calvince,I entered DV lottery last year as single because I was single but come February 2023 we moved in together without marriage certificate, and in February we got a child together, and may 6th I checked and realized I have won.
And while filling DS-260, I still filled as single without a child,
What should I do now ?
September 4, 2023 at 00:24
You should immediately unlock and correct your DS260 to show you have a child. I also suggest you get married and then add your spouse to the DS260.
September 4, 2023 at 00:10
When I was filling the ds260 form I also made a mistake and said I speak only my native language but I also speak English. Should I unlock my form and select English as the language I speak or it can be corrected during interview.. What is your host also changes his state after the interview? How will it be corrected on ds260 form so that your green card will not be sent to the old address?Thank you
September 4, 2023 at 00:24
You can update minor details such as that at the interview.
September 4, 2023 at 08:49
Hello sir,
Can a dv selectee be denied visa because of an invalid passport number used in a previous dv entry?
September 4, 2023 at 11:44
No
September 4, 2023 at 11:14
Thanks Brit.
I went for the interview and was put on AP pending the receipt of my medical report which may delay. I’d like to seek your opinion on a few things regarding my unique case. Is there an email address or other platform I can reach you on privately? Thanks for always assisting.
September 4, 2023 at 11:45
I only answer questions in public. And as unique as you might think your case is – it isn’t.
September 4, 2023 at 15:18
Thanks the question below is a follow up to a question I asked on the 16th Aug. Only writing here as a new question because the reply underneath that post failed to deliver.
Thanks Brit. I went for the interview on the 29th. I’ve been put on AP pending the medical results which wasn’t available when I went to the interview( Apparently nothing was sent as at then). After the interview I’ve called the hospital to request they try to send my results even if it means sending just the smear test for TB whiles they wait for the culture test( apparently 2 types of TB test need to be conducted and the results sent to the embassy. The smear should be ready this week but the culture takes 8 weeks which would be after the deadline). They say they will try( I’m being hopeful) My questions are: based on the fact that I have an underlining lung issue(bronchiectasis ) which is not TB and I disclosed during the examination and the fact that I had gone for my medicals a month prior to my interview as required:
1. Can I write to the embassy to suggest in order not to be disadvantaged for a lung issue I have which is unrelated to the TB they are testing that if I could be issued the visa before the September 30th deadline but make traveling valid a month after September after they have received the culture TB test to confirm that my lung issue (bronchiectasis) which I’ve lived with for years now is not the TB so I’m not disadvantaged for something that has to do with timing by the approved medical hospital in determining whether I have TB or not.
2. If I should write a letter to the embassy to “try my luck” what points or parts of their guidelines can I quote or will you suggest i put across apart from what I’ve listed in the first question ? If I should refine the first question in a particular manner your advice will be really appreciated.
3.Any other suggestion or advice you will give me as a last attempt to see if they will give me the visa before time since I have passed the interview (just that they had no medical report or clearance as at the time I went for the interview on aug29) so I don’t loose out when the AP didn’t request any additional information from me but waiting for the physician.
Thanks I really appreciate your guidance always.
September 4, 2023 at 19:46
They won’t issue the visa without a clear medical, no matter what you say.
September 5, 2023 at 02:18
Thanks
September 6, 2023 at 19:16
Brilliant, I love you ❤️
September 4, 2023 at 13:22
Hello Brit, how is it possible they ask for proof for business documents when I tell them I do my business just online no shop? So should I just say I’m unemployed as on my ds260 and don’t go futher to say I’m self employed because they will ask for proof? Help me out with a precise answer to this please. Thank you
September 4, 2023 at 19:49
If you tell hem some fact, they can ask whatever they want to check that fact.
September 4, 2023 at 14:19
Hello Simon
Thank you for your efforts I followed your instructions in other names used field (as my name on my graduation certificate contains my grandfather and father names) so in other names used i indicated my father, grandfather and surname under other surnames used and I put my first name as given name (because there was a spelling difference between my given name on my certificate and other documents)
So would this be okay (I am not sure where to put the father and grandfather names under surnames section or given names but I put them under surnames) is this goin To cause a problem?? Thank yiu
September 4, 2023 at 14:27
I mean that there was a spelling difference in my first name on graduation certificate and also the father and grandfather names are before my surname so:
Other Surnames used: i put: father, grandfather, surname
Other names used: i put my name woth the spelling difference
Hope the situation is clear now
Thank you
September 4, 2023 at 19:48
I can’t be 100% sure, but it sounds like you handled it ok.
September 4, 2023 at 19:56
Thank you I just want to say that you have been very helpful, I unlocked my ds260 and corrected some mistakes because of your comments and instructions
Hope to move to US and will definitely donate to keep on helping all of us as the process can be confusing sometimes
God bless you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
September 4, 2023 at 15:32
Hello Brit, Case num is 2024AF24K, submitted my DS260 on May 13, I am the principal.
I have written wrong marriage date on my DS260, and correct date on my spouse’s.
Do you recommend to unlock the form for editing? If yes, should it be before processing or after? And what would be the impact of this?
Many thanks for your great support
September 4, 2023 at 19:45
Personally, I would unlock and correct that.
September 4, 2023 at 16:03
My mother in-law won the DV2024, she is around 61 years of age, and she doesn’t have the Advance Level certificate. She went to a vocational Bible college to support the husband in the ministry who is also a Pastor.
What can you advise with her certificates / degree without having an advance level certification but a Pastoral certificate and degree?
Do you think she stand a chance with any advance level but just that?
September 4, 2023 at 19:44
A pastor can meet the work experience requirements. Read my article about work experience.
September 4, 2023 at 21:08
Ok thank you. So what do you suggest? Should I just tell them I’m unemployed as on my DS260 without going further to talk about my business online. Hope I wouldn’t be denied a visa because I’m unemployed. I’m scared about it. Help me out with a precise answer please. Thank you
September 5, 2023 at 09:56
I cannot take responsibility for your case, so use your own judgement now.
September 5, 2023 at 08:52
Hi Brit, I’m DV2024 OC3XX and submitted my DS260 23rd June. I am also based in London so will be interviewing at that embassy. I imagine I have a good chance of going current in the next visa bulletin, but I would prefer to have my interview some time in 2024 (the later the better, really) as I am hoping to do some international travel late 2023 and it would be simpler for me not to have to worry about timing when the interview is scheduled, when I can book my medical and when I get my passport returned after the interview etc.
For these reasons, I’m wondering:
1. Am I correct in thinking there’s a good chance my interview will be scheduled this year given I submitted my DS260 late June, which is a bit later than some?
2. Would it then make sense to unlock my DS260 (I put my mother’s current surname rather than her maiden name which I see in another question you’ve advised is able to be corrected at the interview) and delay resubmitting it until early 2024? Therefore my interview wouldn’t be scheduled even though I was current.
3. If KCC have already processed my DS260 can I still unlock?
4. Alternatively, would I be better off requesting another interview date if/when it arrives if it doesn’t suit my purposes? In this case, can you request a specific month?
5. Finally, is this all too risky given the high numbers in OC this year? I’m aware I’m lucky to have such a low case number and won’t mess with it if it’s going to jeopardise my chances.
September 5, 2023 at 09:59
1. Probably, yes.
2. Unlocking and leaving the case unlocked did stop scheduling in past years, but that seemed to change a few years ago, so I would expect they would schedule you anyway.
3. Yes – until you are processed, current and assign to an embassy queue.
4. Every case is different. You would have to try and see what happens.
5. I wouldn’t delay very much, if I were you.
September 5, 2023 at 12:01
Dear Simon,
I am going to change my address at the port of entry in the US. If I pay the USCIS fee $220 for my GC & SSN three months prior to my arrival in the US, will my GC & SSN be posted to the address which I mentioned in my DS-260. I understand that the SSN will be posted in 3 weeks and the GC takes one month time.
Please advice me regarding the above matter.
Thanking you in advance.
September 5, 2023 at 16:06
The address you update will normally be used for the GC and SSN. But why pay the fee 3 months before travelling – no need for that.
September 5, 2023 at 20:33
Hi Brit,
OC winner with number 49**…from what I found out we do not have chances I guess unless OC goes current right ?
September 5, 2023 at 23:45
Correct – and honestly I can’t think of any reason to believe OC will go current.
September 5, 2023 at 22:48
Hi Mr Simon, I know you can’t take responsibility for my case but you can atleast guide me as someone who is more experienced. You already know better than us so help us achieve our dreams. All I want to know is if being unemployed with advance level will lead to visa denial or should I unlock my form and put self employed? I’m worried help me out
September 5, 2023 at 23:44
I answered you already.
September 5, 2023 at 23:53
Hi Brit,
We had our interview on 17th Aug at Colombo, Sri Lanka. And almost all the applicants went to interview on that day with us have collected the passports. But we haven’t received any calls to collect the passports. I have sent an email asking for an update and below is the answer they have given
“Thank you for your inquiry,
Your Immigrant Visas are not ready for collection. Immigrant Visas are totally unpredictable, our office can never guarantee a visa issuance until it is printed and pasted on the passport. Our Visa issuance letter mentions as “likely issuance” and we also explain our applicants not to make final travel plans until the Immigrant Visas are issued.
We will contact the applicants as soon as the visas are ready for collection.
Thank you.
Kind regards,”
Im a bit worried about this reply. Can you please give any idea or advice on what should I do next.
September 6, 2023 at 00:06
All you can do is wait and hope they can issue the visas.
September 6, 2023 at 04:19
Hi Mr. Simon, I’m DV2023 selectee and have my interview on Thursday 7th. How will I know if my interview has been cancelled? Will I get notified by email or something not to show up at the embassy? Thanks
September 6, 2023 at 07:38
The timing is very tight. So they might cancel your interview, or they might not – I really don’t know. Good luck. Please let me know how it goes.
September 6, 2023 at 15:39
Hi Simon!
The news from the department of state. Do they mean that they cancelled all interviews in order to maintain the cap because I did not get all that.
September 6, 2023 at 16:06
As of now they have not cancelled interviews, but that could start happening within hours.
September 7, 2023 at 00:07
Hi Simon.
A colleague shared this information with me. Seems they may be canceling interviews as early as 7th September
Embassy of the United States of America

Tel: 254-20-363-6622
Dear Diversity Visa Applicant:
September 6, 2023
The Diversity Visa 2023 program has nearly reached its annual limit of diversity visas and soon
the U.S. Embassy will be required to stop processing diversity visas. It is estimated that the
DV2023 season may close as soon as September 7, 2023. If you choose to complete your medical examination with the panel physician (lOM), this does not guarantee you a visa interview at the Embassy because once the annual limit is reached, all remaining diversity visa appointments will be canceled regardless of, the phase of the process they are in. Please consider if, with this information, you would still Like to pay to complete the medical exam. knowing that there is a high risk of the DV season c losing prior to your appointment If you choose not to complete the medical examination at IOM , no additional action is required on your part. If you still choose to
complete the medical exam, you will not be reimbursed the fees and the U.S. Embassy cannot
guarantee that your appointment will be honoured.
Sincerely, Immigrant Visa Unit

September 7, 2023 at 00:27
Yep, its ended. Just posted about it.
September 6, 2023 at 15:51
Hello Mr. Simon ;
My case number is 2024EU21XXX. I submitted the DS-260 on the 10th of May. I’m from Turkey. If I can get the visa, I will go to my friends in San Francisco.
According to your estimates, when will I receive an e-mail from KCC or when will I have a visa interview?
Best regard.
September 6, 2023 at 16:07
Early next year probably.
September 6, 2023 at 16:29
Hello Mr. Simon
I have a question for you.
My case number is 2024EU21XXX
There was a detail question on the DS-260 form as follows. Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law? When I checked the No option, he wanted an explanation. I checked the Yes option because I didn’t know what to write in the description. I have researched the vaccination requirements in accordance with US law. I had the diseases in question in my childhood and had been vaccinated. I have had my Covid19 vaccinations. I only have a document on Covid-19 vaccinations. This question on the DS-260 form makes me worried. What do you think, can you tell me about it? Should I send an e-mail to KCC about this issue. Should I send an email that I will complete my vaccination documents before the visa interview
Best regard
September 6, 2023 at 17:29
Answering no is the more accurate answer, but no need to unlock/change that.
September 6, 2023 at 17:31
Hello Simon
I used to travel with my family to see my father who works in Saudi Arabia (between 2010-2014) for a duration of 2 months maximum ( most of them a month)
After 2014 I didn’t travel there anymore
When filling the travel history I knew that Saudi Arabia doesn’t count but I realized that I didn’t list the addresses where i had stayed in back-then (we changed 2 houses but I didn’t remember the streets)
So should I unlock for this matter?
I already unlocked once in August case number AS00019XXX
Thank you for your help and advise
September 6, 2023 at 17:34
The purpose of travel is a vacation with my mother every year during summer break so no schools (from 2010 to 2014)
September 6, 2023 at 17:49
Sorry for making this long but to make it clear he isn’t working there anymore, and once every summer we used to travel to see him there (stopped at 2014)
September 6, 2023 at 18:10
Your DS260 should include an accurate travel history – so it should have SA listed.
September 6, 2023 at 18:17
My travel in SA was not in the last 5 years and the question about travel history was in the last 5 years (2014 was my last travel there) ??
The question was about previous addresses
September 6, 2023 at 18:19
Would you suggest to unlock??
September 6, 2023 at 18:24
Ah OK – leave it then.
September 6, 2023 at 18:32
Ok many thanks for your time and support you have been very helpful for many people including me with the live sessions and your websites
I will ask for your advise to ensure reaching my American dream 🙏🏼
September 7, 2023 at 01:31
Good evening Simon,
When i enter the states the first time with the DV, will be imposed with duties etc at the customs border? I am unable to find any information on this online elsewhere. Thank you for your time.
Kind regards, Ash
September 7, 2023 at 10:01
No
September 7, 2023 at 01:39
Hello dear Simon, I have to go to the embassy on the 11th of the month for an interview, but now they say that the green cards ended, and there will be a email not to come to the interview, is such a thing possible? and what can be done?
September 7, 2023 at 10:02
They have ended the program because all the visas have been issued. I posted an article about it last night.
September 7, 2023 at 03:49
Hello Simon,
The Embassy asked me to do my second Medical exam which on September 14,23 and saying my AP is over.
What do you think, would they issue the visa after Medical Examination?
Best regards.

No
September 8, 2023 at 04:02
Hello Sir,
I really don’t know who I should trust in,
They Embassy: August 31, 2023
Dear Sir,
Administrative processing of your application is over now. However, your medical examination has expired by now. If you are still interested in continuing with your visa application, please complete new medical examination.
You may contact Dr. X in Sweden and ask him to prioritize your case as DV-2023 is ending on the 30th of September 2023 and no visa can be issued after that date.
Please let us know once you have booked medical examination:,
Medical examination is September 14,2023.
But Ceac status is still “refused”.
They embassy has still not sent me any info to cancel my Medical appointment.
..??
September 8, 2023 at 22:00
Of course they won’t tell you to cancel the medical appointment. But you won’t get a visa, so why waste the medical fee. Contact the embassy if you don’t trust what I am saying.
September 11, 2023 at 03:27
Hello Simon,
I contacted the embassy,
They said this,
Dear Sir,
“Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that visa number will be available for you. Inquiry has been sent to the appropriate authorities. You have to complete medical examination if you still think to pursue the visa”.
Regards,
Immigrant visa unit
Let me know your last advice for me, do you think if they if it is ok to spend more money?
Best regards.
September 11, 2023 at 17:26
There are no visas available. The medical would be a waste of money. You are free to waste your money if that is what you want to do.
September 7, 2023 at 05:58
Hello Brit,
Is it advisable to do medical in advance and keep the results or one should wait until one gets a notification from KCC?
September 7, 2023 at 10:03
Don’t spend any more money if you are DV2023.
For DV2024, get the medical once you get the 2NL.
September 7, 2023 at 14:13
Hi mr. Brit. I am dvlottery selectee with high cn as 2024EU47500. What do you think chance that my cn will be current is too low?
September 7, 2023 at 14:58
I don’t know. It is too early to know.
September 7, 2023 at 14:38
Hi Brit, advise me on 8k CN for Accra Embassy. DV 2024. Should I change embassy?
September 7, 2023 at 14:59
We don’t know how they will behave – but you may already be processed, and with that number you could be in AV status already. That would mean that you could not make changes anyway.
September 7, 2023 at 15:27
Hi dear Simon
My passport is in the embassy from last week and my ceas status has changed from refused to administrative processing on tuesday , but the visa has got finished as they said, can you guide me that what happen for my passport and my visa?
Best regards.
September 7, 2023 at 17:16
If the CEAC status is “Administrative Processing”, yes they will print your visa.
September 8, 2023 at 02:49
Thank you so much dear simon
September 7, 2023 at 16:22

September 7, 2023 at 20:43
Hi Mr Simon
Im DV 2023 selectee. already had my interview on 10th August 2023 due to rescheduling of the interview from 10th September being the initial date.
since than my passport is with embassy and they said they will advise when to pick the passport once the packet is ready.
since DV 2023 has come to an end and the visas are exhausted. do you think i will be given a visa.
Thank youi
September 7, 2023 at 20:46
sorry i forgot to mention im from oceania region and my embassy is suva
September 7, 2023 at 20:53
If CEAC doesn’t show your status as “Issued” or “Administrative Processing” then you have lost your chance.
September 9, 2023 at 19:08
Bula Brit what about if our Visa status is says Ready and we had already had our interview on the 24th of August
September 10, 2023 at 09:44
If CEAC still says ready, then the embassy did not issue your visas before the program was stopped, so you cannot now get your visa.
September 7, 2023 at 23:24
Hello Mr Brit.
Can a DV 2024 selectee apply for DV 2025 in October? will this have implication while assessing for possible interview schedule?
September 7, 2023 at 23:45
No problem.
September 8, 2023 at 07:44
Hi Simon,
I don’t have A levels but GCSEs and a diploma in accounting. Also don’t have 2 years work experience with the diploma. I plan to start Uni which I can use the diploma to get into.
Will my university studies trump the high school requirements?
Can I apply for DV lottery with my educational background?
Thanks
September 8, 2023 at 22:04
Apply for the lottery anyway – we can sort out qualifications if you get selected.
September 8, 2023 at 14:13
Hi Simon,
I’m DV Lottery 2023 winner who applied for adjustment of status within the US. I have not heard from them since my interview was done in July. In the case that I will not receive a visa, what is the process now that the 2023 cases are filled? Do I need to wait an official response/notification letter or email from the USCIS before taking any action (leaving the country)? Do I have the option to appeal?
Thank you. Terence
September 8, 2023 at 22:08
It’s really odd that you waited since July, but they will not be able to issue the visa now. There is no appeal, because the visas are used up.

Thanks Simon, on the “Do I need to wait for an official response/notification letter or email from the USCIS before taking any action (leaving the country)? ” do you know anything regarding this?

Seems like that would be your choice. Ask Mom.

Hi Britsimon.
Can you explain what might have happened that a 2nl is given to a CN like AF55639 in May and given to a CN like 55500 in July? What could trigger this situation where a higher CN receives a 2nl ahead of a Lower CN in the same consulate. This former has been interviewed and the person with the lower CN has not been interviewed?

That is normal – I have explained that many times and created a video explanation also. Please check my videos about the AV queues and scheduling process.

Hello Brit,
Thank you for your videos and responses.
I have a case number 2024EU304XX and my embassy is frankfurt, germany.
Can you tell me more about the case numbers in the eu and especially my chances getting an interview?
Thank you very much.

Your case number is OK, but we have to wait until January to understand exactly where the numbers are distributed.

Hi Simon,
I’m currently in Nairobi awaiting the 2024 scheduling of interviews. My case number 22***. How long might I wait for possible interview date?
September 9, 2023 at 16:23
I can’t be sure – it depends mostly on the embassy themselves and whether they work better than they did in DV2023.

Dear Simon , I have two question First , Can I transulate my wife who is the principle applicant of our case if there us no translator in the embassy. The second Question , if I request to change new embassy did the accept health reasons to relocate my previous interview location.
September 9, 2023 at 16:27
1. Yes
2. They generally don’t honor requests to change embassies. It is based on home address.

No further visas will be issued so unless your case on CEAC says “Issued” or “Administrative Processing” it is over.
