Hi sir, Do I need the relationship certificate(Between family members) in any stage of processing or in interview?
Is there any incidence the CO asking this certificate?Thankyou
May 3, 2017 at 14:38
Only birth certs and marriage certs of selectees and derivatives.
May 4, 2017 at 02:08
Thanks for the swift relply sir
One more question sir;
1)Can i sponsor my dad mom brother and sister (not all at a time) if yes what is the time after i can sponser them??
2)I am single now and am planning to marry from my home country after having the GC and staying for 5 years in US and at that time how many years will it take to my wife to come to me(in US)??
3)If No. 1 ans is yes in that moment do i need relationship certificate or what other docs do i need to sponsor them?
Thanks for your valuable time!
May 4, 2017 at 03:03
1. No. You will have to wait until you are a citizen (that takes 5 years)
2. 2 years
3. Birth and marriage certs. Common sense really.
May 3, 2017 at 11:30
Hello Brit, please would I be refused a tourist visa if I don’t have the sponsors bank statement?.
Also, if am to sponsor myself how much would be necessary to be in my bank account?.
Thank u

Do we need to keep checking the status till september ,even if we may not have been selected?
May 3, 2017 at 09:51
Sorry, as above I should clarify I’m not adopted, & thus don’t need the final adoption creed, only a notary certified copy.
May 3, 2017 at 09:49
Hi Simon
Quick question regarding Birth Certificates. We cannot find my “original” copy, & thus need to apply for another copy before my interview. I just wanted to clarify that this is sufficient for the interview (along with a notary certified copy of final adoption creed). I’m just a little unclear on the way they define “original” here (meaning do they define it as only being the Birth Certificate issued right after birth, or would me getting a new, official copy of my birth Certificate qualify as being the original)?
I’ve included the guideline I’ve seen on the official travel.state.gov website:
BIRTH CERTIFICATES: each applicant’s original birth certificate and one notary-certified
copy is required. If a visa applicant is an adopted child, they must submit the original and a
notary-certified copy of their final adoption decree.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

An original means the actual document issued by the correct authority. An official replacement will do fine.
May 3, 2017 at 08:17
Hi Simon, both my wife and me submissed our application successfully. Upon checking we both receive the “the information entered is not valid” message.
Definitely no mistyping involved.
Is there any place we can address and let resolve the problem?
Thanks

May 3, 2017 at 07:41
Hi Simon,
How can we know if there will be another draw for dv 2018? is there any possibility to have another draw?
May 3, 2017 at 15:12
I doubt it. They have selected a lot of people at least in OC region – so that indicates they have selected more than enough people globally.
May 3, 2017 at 07:13

Hello Brit,
My interview date is on 5 June @ native country embassy.
My hubby is principle.
Now he is working out of native country(Singapore) over 5 years, me and my baby are staying our native country. My question are,
1) Does he need to get police certificate in Singapore also native country?
2) While me and baby gonna medical checkup in embassy authorized clinic in our place, for my hubby
Can he request embassy authorized clinic in Singapore and to sent the result to our native embassy?
3) According to embassy information, before 2 week in interview we must drop original and copy passport for us in embassy mail box. My hubby will come to interview before one week coz he can’t leave from his job for 10days.
Can I send copy passport first for my hubby?
Thanks,
Regards,
May 3, 2017 at 04:24
1. Probably – read the instructions!!!
2. No – all medicals are done in the country of interview.
3. I don’t know – check with the embassy.

Hi,
I had applied for DV 2018. And when I checked the status today found that “the entree has not been selected”.
1. Is the lottery taken on single day?
2. Is the status updated online on single day?
May 3, 2017 at 03:19
1. Yes
2. Yes
Try again next year.

Hello Simon,
I am in US with a J1 visa with an end date of early July and I am not able to extend anymore. My wife is on J2. She won the DV2018 and case number is 2018EU00004XXX. So, we only have 2 more months that we can lawfully work in US. To my understanding we have to decide between CP and AoS. However I couldn’t find clear information regarding EAD processing time after applying to AoS. Do you have any idea how long would it take to get an EAD (considering everything went well)? Do you think 2 months is enough time to kick-off AoS process? Thanks.
May 3, 2017 at 03:21
Processing won’t start until October 1 – so you will have to leave the USA and apply via CP.
May 3, 2017 at 02:53
I keep getting this message, The system is unable to process your request. Please try again later. Request connection timed out. Please what does it mean?
May 3, 2017 at 03:25
It means to wait until tomorrow.
May 3, 2017 at 02:52
hello Brit question, what US address should i put as the permanent address to which my green card should be sent in the event i get thru?Thats a part of the Ds 260 form can it be anyone in the states friend? acquaintance?
May 3, 2017 at 03:55
Are you DV2018 – if so SLOW DOWN. Don’t submit your form so fast. Read my guide and instructions for filling in the DS260.
The answers are in those guides.

Hi Simon,
Thank you so much for your site! It’s very helpful. I was just selected in the 2018 draw as an Oceania resident. I’m currently studying in the US legally, and so it looks like I’ll have to apply for an adjustment of status thru USCIS. However, I’m a little confused — do I have to fill out Form DS-260 as well, or should I just follow the instructions given on the USCIS website?
Thank you!
Jess

May 2, 2017 at 22:53
Just a clarification as my interview is in June and it’s that time of year to panic about everything – if the foreign country you spent over 6 months in was the US, you don’t need to submit a background check from their right? I’d assumed that was the case, but re-reading it, it mentions “residents” and I didn’t want to get to the interview and realise I’d misinterpreted the instructions. Thanks!
May 2, 2017 at 23:47
No police certs needed for USA.
May 2, 2017 at 22:27
Thanks Simon for the advice but I would like to know if it would be OK to go for medicals a week prior to interview. Pls help, am really confused right now
May 2, 2017 at 23:49
Again – the doctor can say how long it will take them. Ask the doctor.
May 2, 2017 at 21:32
Hi Simon,
I’ve foolishly provided for my medical the passport photo used when i enter the lottery.
The medical has yet to be sent to the embassy. How important it is to change the pictures to a recently taken one? Would they refuse the visa because of the pictures?
Thanks
May 2, 2017 at 23:55
No
May 2, 2017 at 21:08
Is a rank number of OC1937 even worth doing anything further, let alone, sending a DS-260 in?
In no previous year, has the cut off numbers ever gone this high.. It would seem a waste of time… The highest it went seems to be 1800 in 2007 and 1490 for oceania in 2015 that proceeded to interview. And the rank number has to be below that? correct?
According to the data, only 500-800 visas from oceania were even finally granted the green card. I dont understand why they allow around 2000 to be selected, and only 500-800 get it.
May 2, 2017 at 23:36
Well, first of all it doesn’t make much sense going back to really old years because too much has changed. So ignore 2007, ignore 2012 and so on. But yes, in recent years DV2015 had high case numbers selected (the highest selected number was about 2015OC2300). In that year the DS260 system was introduced and it wasn’t well handled by KCC, so they didn’t issue as many visas as they could have issued – but OC region was stopped at 1490 as you say. For sure – you don’t have to rush to submit your DS260 – you could wait and see once we have more information on selected applicants and so on.

Hello Simon
I am really caught up in a situation here, I have interview appointment on the 9th of May n i haven’t done medicals yet. I lost all my documents including passport n ID card. I have tried to reschedule the interview but the embassy is asking me to be there on the interview date with the other documents. Pls can i go for the medicals now n how long can i wait to have the results?
May 2, 2017 at 19:53
It’s best to ask the doctors how long it will take to have the medical report back after the medical.

Dear Simon
l have a burning question. My interview is on 4th may 2017 my challenge is that my medicals are on hold since they need to do more investigations
How to l reschedule the interview before or after the interview has passed?
Since the doctors told me that even if l appear for the interviews my file on medicals wont be there am just a beneficiary and not the main applicant.\
Was told l can reschedule to a date in july.
Kindly advise is it earlier or after the interview has passed?
Regards
Romeo
May 2, 2017 at 16:50
You can check with the embassy. Personally I would attend the interview and supply the medicals when they are ready – but it’s your choice.
May 2, 2017 at 16:00
Dear Brit, any time I try checking my results then I see invalid confirmation number even thou I cross check all the time to make sure it is right. Pls what do I do?. Thank u
May 2, 2017 at 16:49
Wait until server traffic is less (tomorrow) then try again.
May 3, 2017 at 06:24
it seems to me that if you used your old picture for the lottery of DV2018, ESC says “invalid” although you have SUCCESS in “Submission Confirmation: Entry Received” You may remember that the almost only change in DV2018 instruction was not to use old pictures from previous years’ lotteries.
Brit, If I am right, congratulate me!
May 3, 2017 at 06:33
You are not correct.
May 2, 2017 at 15:25

Hello Brit,
I am an expat living in London for 5 years now. I have not registered with any GP in UK, but was told that I require to provide a medical history from a GP. I have spoken to a few GPs none would provide that if I were to register now.
Would the visa be denied because of this? I have completed my medicals and all the vaccinations but just do not have the medical summary requested.
Thanks
May 2, 2017 at 14:52
No that would not cause denial.
May 2, 2017 at 18:04
I had my medical in London last week and I was told they would not send it to the embassy until I provided them with my medical history from the GP even if the sheet is empty. My GP agreed to send it to me. I only registered a couple of months ago.
May 2, 2017 at 18:12
And i forgot to mention: Knightsbridge doctors give you an info sheet for GPs. Take that to a GP practice so they can see what it is for.
May 3, 2017 at 09:31
Thanks both for the useful info!

Both Ready or Ap is possible after interview or not?
May 2, 2017 at 06:21
Both are possible.
May 2, 2017 at 03:43
When going for an interview, if you don’t meet the requirements for work experience when they ask for your highest level of education should you say you completed your 12th year of high school even if you have a diploma to apply within the education standards? I’m very unsure. Thank you.
May 2, 2017 at 06:16
You should tell the truth about your education. Education is the easiest way to meet the requirements.
May 1, 2017 at 23:37
Hi Sir, my interview was rescheduled from the 2nd of May to the 9th. This sort of thing is normal correct or should I be concerned?
May 2, 2017 at 05:41
It happens. As long as the EMBASSY rescheduled it – it’s fine.
May 3, 2017 at 09:02
Mine was rescheduled by embassy as well from May 3rd to 11th
May 1, 2017 at 23:12
Dear BritSimon,
Have you heard of anybody who would have his green card revoked when entering the US, after staying outside for less than 6 months, but without the strong evidence to support his intention of stay in US?
All the best for you and your daughter,
Ed
May 2, 2017 at 05:40
It can happen – when people don’t create ties to the USA and treat the GC like a fancy visitors visa.
May 1, 2017 at 22:16
What’s up Mr. Britsimon? I hope you fine, first of all Thanks for all of helps You Provide Here, after that, i have Some important Questions Linked to my DV case, and i fully Respect your time, and maybe my questions have already answered before but my case maybe a little bit different.
My short Story: (I’m a 2017 DV selectee, until now I haven’t Submitted my DS-260 because my School Certificate Since now isn’t ready, and it maybe ready in late August, or early September This Year.)
So my Questions is:
1. When to Submit my DS-260 to be interviewed in August or late August or early September?
2. My Case number is 2017AS000085## , when my Interview will be? I mean, will i be interviewed Before The end of 2017 DV lottery in 30 of September?
3. Another Thing, i’m from iraq, will it effect anything?
Thanks so much, you did a lot to a lot of Peoples (:
May 2, 2017 at 05:27
You can’t be so precise as to affect the date of your interview to be early in the month or late in the month. In fact – right now you are already starting to introduce a risk that you will get interviewed AT ALL. Not all DS260s take the same time to process and given that you are from Iraq, your case could easily take longer than average. So – stop being clever and submit the DS260 – NOW.
May 1, 2017 at 20:54
Hi Simon
My DV interview is scheduled on 14th of May in another country than where I am living, I will be able to travel on 10 May , I have to make the medical examinations on the designated places on 11th of May, and results will be ready on 12th of May . The embassy instruction is to submit the full set of the required documents including the results of the medicals three working days before the interview and in this case I don’t have the chance to fulfill this requirement, other required documents are all available. Therefore, the following options are possible.
– To send an email to the embassy asking to reschedule the interview –
– Attend the interview and submit the required documents to the CO during the interview. However , I don’t know if they will interview me as the documents were not delivered before the interview time. I am totally confused and in need to your appreciated help.
Would it be possible please advice me to the best alternative I have to choose.
Thanks
May 1, 2017 at 22:54
I would simply attend the interview with the medical results.
May 2, 2017 at 00:31
do you think they will accept to interview me despite the delay to submit the docs
in earlier time as was instructed.
thank for replying
May 2, 2017 at 05:41
Yes
May 1, 2017 at 16:41
Hello sir,
My interview for my DV visa is going to be held at the end of may. I prepared all my documents and a sworn translator translated them to English. But yesterday i found out that the translator did a mistake at the end of my birth certificate. instead of writing “signed and sealed”. He wrote “signed and seale”. should i apply for a new birth certificate and translate it again or ignore this?.
thanks for helping.
May 1, 2017 at 19:04
I don’t think it is significant – but it’s your choice of course.
May 1, 2017 at 14:37
Good morning,
I have some doubts about the part of the passport between that which will expire and taht which I will have to renew. I entered this year for DV-Lottery but unfortunately my passport will expire in January 2018. If I was drown on May 2 for DV-Lottery, what should I do aside filling the form DS-260? Renew a new one before submitting the DS-260 or submit the form with the current passport number and once it’s time to bring that new one for the interview? Are there other alternatives?
Thank you and best regards
Carlo Di Pietro
May 1, 2017 at 14:51
You just get a new passport and process under that one. It’s not a problem. Relax and see if you are selected.
May 1, 2017 at 14:31
Is Affidavit of Support from US PR relative and monetary gift of US10,000 from local parents enough for an Antiguan family of two to prove that they wouldn’t become a public charge? I have five passes at Caribbean Examinations Council (C.X.C). Have I met education requirements? I need your advice since I plan on entering DV2019 lottery. Thanks in advance… xoxo
May 1, 2017 at 14:53
Enter the lottery. Get selected. Then ask questions.
May 3, 2017 at 14:20
Hi Britsimon, got selected in DV 2018. My number is 2018AF16XXX. When can I get an interview?
May 3, 2017 at 15:27
It is too early to be sure. Probably early 2018.
May 3, 2017 at 16:16
Many thanks. Thanks for correcting my error too. You know what I mean I’m sure.
May 3, 2017 at 16:18
I do.
May 4, 2017 at 19:24
Would you say my case number is high and therefore I risk not getting an interview?
May 4, 2017 at 19:34
No
May 4, 2017 at 22:35
Kwame mailing me [email protected]
May 5, 2017 at 05:32
Thanks Simon. How soon should the DS 260 be filled? Now applying for passports for my derivatives.
1. Should I proceed without the passport numbers?
2. Wait till they get the passports? It will take about a month to get it.
May 5, 2017 at 05:37
Either way is fine. People stress too much about speed. – Relax.
