OK – DV2018 ended 2 minutes ago.
So – for any DV2018 case not already approved, there is now NO CHANCE of being approved. It is possible that some (very few) cases might have been approved in the last day or two and not updated in CEAC, but otherwise if your case still says AP, it will now not change. There is no possible way for a DV2018 case to be approved after today.
I know some will have been left out without a visa, and it is an imperfect system – but more than 45,000 visas will have been issued, and for those people – I am happy.
So now we start DV2019. I hope this year is successful for as many people as possible. Best of luck to you all!

Thank Simon for update. Quick question please; My father, Mom and 2 Teen age brothers are living together. I fill 2 forms for them. one for Mom and one for Dad- Both along with 2 Teen age brothers.
Is that the right way i did or only one application needed for either Mom or Dad along with teen ages?
Thanks
January 2, 2019 at 18:52
You did it right.
December 31, 2018 at 17:16

1.Did I get the chance to get interviewed?
2.before the lottery I was married with a traditional wedding and when I applied for the lottery I applied as a single, and after winning the lottery I was formally married and then completed the DS form and sent it, in interviews I have to tell about my traditional wedding?
3.I have kept my surname, is this the problem?
Thank u 🙂

November 13, 2018 at 10:23
Hi Sir, Is there any chance to check the status of DV2018 entries as I couldn’t check my status within the permited time period.
November 13, 2018 at 14:43
What is the point? Dv2018 is finished.
November 12, 2018 at 17:10
Hi simon, unfortunately I am a citizen of one of the banned countries.
I read some guideness on the immigration webpage recommending that I shall prove to the visa officer that I really deserve and won’t cause any problems to the states, by telling or writing a testimony…
what is your advice?
I have been living abroad for the past 10 years and soon will finish my PhD program.
November 12, 2018 at 18:26
Lots of people “really deserve” their chance. You haven’t said anything that would gain a waiver, and waivers are exceptionally rare. While the ban is in place, you are probably wasting your time and money proceeding – but that is up to you.
November 11, 2018 at 15:33
Thanks for reply
November 11, 2018 at 09:57
Hi sir there is second draw in. Dv2019

Please help to guide us through the process.my wife and I.
November 3, 2018 at 21:41
There is a FAQ (link above) about preparing for the interview and guides on the whole process. Put in some effort to make it an easy process.
November 8, 2018 at 22:29
Okay, I will check it
November 2, 2018 at 08:43
Hi Simon. Thanks for the great work. This police clearance is only for the persons above 18 right?

October 22, 2018 at 08:00
hi simon is there any problem on my interview due to ma student copy and ma passport date of birth different.
October 22, 2018 at 16:22
Typically no problem, unless it causes concern of fraud.
October 6, 2018 at 13:40
Hello Simon,
I just want to clear my doubts…will they consider 2018winners who were not privilege to be called up for interview …will they consider them in this new DVDlottery play 2019–2020……
October 6, 2018 at 14:34
Previous winners can re-enter future lotteries. The previous win gives them no advantage nor disadvantage.
October 5, 2018 at 23:43
Besides, I also got married right after I applied for the Diversity Visa last year and i’m including my husband on the DS260 form for processing, please also advice.
October 5, 2018 at 23:22
Hi Brit and thanks for the wonderful ideas that you continue to share on this platform, basically I was applying in 2017 and I did with out my daughter. She also did alone because she was 20 and knowing that she would’ve turn 21 in 2018 and that is also above the age for a child to travel with the parent under the DV law. Fortunately, I was successful and now wondering if there will not be future problem. Her information is already with them as my daughter because I was granted visa more than four times and travel to the states three times even though I attempted with her and she was denied. Please give your candid advice on this.
October 5, 2018 at 23:46
I already gave you my advice.

Hiiii brit, heard that dv2019 will get a second draw 1,is that true
2.if yes, when will be the draw be out
October 5, 2018 at 14:44
1. In some years that happens.
2. In years when that happened, it has happened before this time. So – I think it is unlikely.
October 6, 2018 at 07:00
Thanks brit
October 4, 2018 at 18:19
Dear Brit

God Bless you and your family
Best wishes to all 2019 winner

October 4, 2018 at 18:26
Thanks Jack. Best of luck in the USA!
October 4, 2018 at 13:58
Hi Brit,
Does your denial (your case remaining in AP until the time is up) affect any subsequent VISA application (for eg. Tourist VISA) for the US? If so, in what ways?
October 4, 2018 at 17:32
Filing the DS260 declared “immigrant intent” – desire to emigrate to the USA. So – that can be a factor in future non immigrant applications. It doesn’t mean you cannot be approved, but rejection is slightly more likely.
October 4, 2018 at 08:16
Thanks Brit, please where is that found?
October 3, 2018 at 22:50
Hi, Does the denial of the lottery visa automatically imply that they revoke the tourist visa? If so, would it be in all cases?
October 4, 2018 at 01:46
No.
October 3, 2018 at 16:42
Hi Brit ,God Bless you for the good job.my question is this ,
1). I won the lottery 2019 and I’ve just filled the DS260 form ,that’s all I have done ,am I on track ?,coz I read post here of 2NL ..I’m lost
2)…my case number is AF 107xx ,can you please estimate the month I can be called for interview ?
October 3, 2018 at 17:55
Read the basic questions article.
October 4, 2018 at 08:22
Thanks Brit, please where is that found?
October 4, 2018 at 14:19

October 3, 2018 at 08:22
Hello dear Simon
CEAC updated the data of the 2018 dv. My questions are:
1- Africa is 20081visas, so it has not reached its cota. What will they do with the remaining visas?
2- Among the currencies of July 2018, there are numbers above 39500 that have received their visa. Will not they restore this dysfunction that is injustice?
3- Since it is they who made Africa current in July 2018, can the abandoned can pursue them?
Can they exceptionally call numbers higher than 39500, current of July?
October 3, 2018 at 15:28
1. Nothing. They year is over.
2. No.
3. No

Hi sir you have any special tips for dv entry? beeause some years played bun not selecteted this year we wants to playing.
October 3, 2018 at 03:58
Follow the instructions EXACTLY. That’s it.
October 3, 2018 at 02:55
I think I do not explain myself well, I’m single and I was selected for the lottery of 2019, my concern is: if the photo that came up in the initial application of the lottery contains errors such as this is blurred or was incorrect, which would be different To the photo that one should take to the interview then this could be reason for disqualification?
October 3, 2018 at 03:42
THe photo provided at the interview is always different to the entry photo.
October 3, 2018 at 11:47
Thank you very much
October 2, 2018 at 23:59
helo mr brit dvlottery begins this october 3 so please can you tell me the suitable or best time to fill entery period form
October 3, 2018 at 02:37
Any time at all – time of entry is not important.
October 2, 2018 at 23:06
Hello, after being selected and having the 2NL for the appointment, could be one disqualified for having errors in the photo when I signed up the first time?
October 2, 2018 at 23:23
It is possible, yes.
October 3, 2018 at 00:17
Thank you, What are the types of errors in the photo that can be committed in the first entry of the lottery that can lead to a disqualification on the day of the interview at the embassy?
October 3, 2018 at 02:39
The big ones (with NO fixes) are not listing a derivative and choosing the wrong country of chargeability (bad if that is in the wrong region). Then generally any lies.
October 2, 2018 at 12:24
Prof Brit.. Pls forgive my ignorance but I want to knw if we are expecting an increase in the upcoming visa bulletin for December considering the low start for Dv 2019. Now that Dv 2018 has concluded and not all Visa were issued, does it mean this increase will definitely take place?
October 2, 2018 at 14:19
There will be an increase, but don’t expect a BIG increase.
October 2, 2018 at 12:01
Is there any official statistic about DV-2018 ? I mean I dont think that all 45 000 VISAs were issued. I wonder how many VISAS were really issued. Its just interesting.
October 2, 2018 at 14:11
Yes. Do you think I just pluck numbers from the sky?
October 4, 2018 at 18:32
Around the World; approximately 48.000 selectee had got their visas. It’s good number.
October 4, 2018 at 18:39
It’s an EXCELLENT number considering what a mess the whole year was…. They cleared as many AP cases as they could – AF saw over 2400 approvals in the last two weeks of the program. They really put some resources into making that a good results for as many as possible.
October 8, 2018 at 23:44
I also want to thank you about your support and help to us patiently. At the beginning of DV2018 I have started to follow your blog and get my GC visa by CN 22xxx and still I read your articles regularly. And in my country, by being author on some web sites; I recommend your blog. You are really doing great job!
October 8, 2018 at 23:56

November 24, 2018 at 04:37

November 24, 2018 at 05:04

October 2, 2018 at 10:07
Hi MR Britsimon when DV 2019 start
October 2, 2018 at 14:06
If only there was some article that explained that, huh.
October 2, 2018 at 06:41
The 2018 dvlottery has real been very unpredictable for many applicants, for those who were lucky kudos and for those who did not manage do not lose hope as always there is tomorrow .Keep on trying ,one day the Almighty God will answer your prayers.
BritSimon we thank you so much for enlightening many of us of the whole process hoping that you will continue doing the same. Count my support on the work you are doing on the prosperity of the human race.May God bless your efforts.
October 2, 2018 at 04:24
Thank you, Simon. How does the travel ban affect applicants who were born in Syria and hold only a Syrian citizenship? A friend asks. Thanks.
October 2, 2018 at 13:59
That friend is unlikely to be able to get approved.
October 1, 2018 at 19:27
Hi Mr BritSimon
How many visa issued in DV Lottery 2018?
October 1, 2018 at 20:18
Did you read the article?
October 1, 2018 at 15:56
Hi simon,
I have asked you before about my case which the status stay ready after my interview and i have sent to them all the required and i have not received any feed back. And you told it is very normal and actually alot of people told me the same. Actually after 45 days of my interview in sent again asking for me case status. On 10th September i received a call from them asking where is the required information ) – : i told the i have sent already and i have sent many nh requests for clarifications without a reply. They simply just replied we haven’t received and the status of my case is very late and my chance is week to receive a visa. Now iam forced to send my wife and my babies without me because of this miss.
My question is yesterday I found an update on our family case but iam still ap and the passport in the embassy. Is there any possibility to receive my passport with the visa? Meaning, can they request or book a visa no. Or visa on 30 September and wait until they receive and print with date of 30 September for example or impossible .
Is this happend before
October 1, 2018 at 16:05
I specifically addressed that already in the article above.
October 1, 2018 at 17:32
No I meant after my interview
October 1, 2018 at 14:50
it is a shame, 45000 visa issued. cut-off were too early. Europe could go upto 28k. but they just left us without a good cause. i was 26035. Happy for 45000 people
October 1, 2018 at 15:50
Actually, Europe exceeded its own quota. They did what they could to use visas from other regions. The shortfall is in AF and AS region.
October 2, 2018 at 11:27
Indeed its really weird.. only explication is that they pick up too many selectees in Eu region.. i hope it will be different this year
October 1, 2018 at 14:33
Hi Brit, thank u for your great blog and your efforts, I’m following u for more than one year and it’s very helpful.
Yeah finally we’re at the end of this frustrating year and it was totally unfair with me especially. After few months of being in AP, US embassy in Kabul sent me a conditional email requesting to provide police record from Afghanistan in 2 days ( It’s never requested from others or it’s not even in required docs), saying if there’s no record of conviction then they would issue me a visa. I provided the doc on time (as it wasn’t so easy to get that doc in 2 days). I waited to the last day of September but unfortunately didn’t get issued.
I hope no one else faces the same this i did. Good luck dv2019 applicant’s!
October 1, 2018 at 15:32
It’s unfortunate.
I believe that sometimes consulate officers misuse the AP option when they have no good reason to deny the visa.
Thanks to Trump extreme vetting!
October 1, 2018 at 15:48
Now we are getting to ridiculous. This always happens – every year – and has been that way for years.
October 1, 2018 at 16:14
Nobody is getting ridiculous … it a fact.
-Can you verify that the following page and a lot of similar ones are fake?
https://www.businessinsider.com/trumps-extreme-vetting-initiative-digital-muslim-ban-2017-11
-Do you believe that 100% of the AP cases are ineligible for the visa?
-Which visa do you think that should be processed regardless of that damn fiscal year thing?
Tourist visa
Diversity immigrant visa
I still believe that some consulate officers misuse that AP option they got .. it’s my opinion.
October 1, 2018 at 16:28
You are welcome to your opinion, even when it is incorrect and baseless.
The reality is, in this year, as in every year before, there are many cases that did not clear AP. That is not a new phenomenon – and there is NO WAY a case will be approved while background checks are still outstanding. You must remember, an immigrant visa is a privilege, not a right. The DOS will do whatever it wants to check cases, and if someone times out because of that process, that is unfortunate, but it is not new. That is why the 1NL warns that there is no guarantee.
October 1, 2018 at 16:58
Dear Simon, i do understand that AP isn’t new and was and will be there however i’m talking about the following issue.
If you reside in or are a national of the following
countries, you may be subject to administrative processing:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran,
Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman,
Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United
Arab Emirates, or Yemen
I also do understand that the US consulate officers have all the right to ensure that the applicant poses no security
or related risk to the United States but they don’t have any right to destroy someone future just because he was born in the above countries.
October 1, 2018 at 20:31
Again – you seem to think that people have a “right” to the Green Card. They don’t. So – an officer isn’t “destroying someone’s future” – they are simply following the procedures in place, and they have EVERY RIGHT, and a responsibility to do that – whether you agree or not.
October 1, 2018 at 21:27
When did i say anything about having the right to get the GC?
LOL, read this
“That is the final verdict and means the terms of the travel ban as currently in place will continue as long as this administration wants, or Congress changes the law. That is a blow to people from the banned countries, and effectively destroys the hopes of thousands of DV selectees in DV2018 and DV2019”
That was your own words saying the the travel ban will destroy the hopes of thousands of DV selectees.
Me too think that misusing AP will destroy someone’s future specially if he/she was eligible for the visa.
Because it’s related to the fiscal year otherwise it will be fine to wait for the AP outcome even a year later just like tourist visa.
I wish if i can sue DOS to force them continue processing AP despite of the fiscal year.
I know there are visa quota for every country but i’m 100% sure that they can find a solution for it.
October 1, 2018 at 21:32
OK – I have tried to make this clear to you, but you seem determined to not listen. Go ahead and sue them if you wish.
October 3, 2018 at 17:59
Bro hope is quite different to future. Sorry but don’t be silly, I entered at Dakar with my wife but we failed and before we start interview they gave us paper to sign that it’s non refundable if visa refused, our case was in AP till the end, but look we took it easy it emis not the end of world to no going in USA.
In every embassy in the world they always say VISA IS A PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT.
October 3, 2018 at 23:44
LOL, you guys are brainwashed?
I have read millions of times that an immigrant visa is a privilege not a right …. It’s their own rule!
It’s not in the bible or quran!!
They made that rule because they are cheaters and want to collect people money and give them nothing.
I only know one rule …. IF you are eligible you MUST get the visa no matter what or when!!
Besides if an immigrant visa is a privilege not a right why britsimon didn’t say that to himself??
Why he was sad about the verdict in the below page??!!
https://britsimonsays.com/travel-ban-upheld-sad/comment-page-2/#comments
October 3, 2018 at 23:52
Where did I say immigration is a right. I’ll tell you – I didn’t. Because I am not an idiot. Your “one rule” on the other hand is childish and idiotic. Everyone is told right from the first letter they are not guaranteed the visa. But as I already explained – please feel free to waste money on a lawyer to sue them.
October 4, 2018 at 00:07
OMG!! You stick to their rules again??!!
Who give a damn about what was written in the first letter??
There are almost 4000 cases where put on AP
4000X330= 1320000$
We don’t want their damn visa we want at least 10 million dollars as a compensation for wasting our time for that shit!!
Tell me a way to contact all the cases that were put on AP and i assure you that i will sue them!!!
October 4, 2018 at 01:48
Go ahead. Please do that. Spend your own money.
October 1, 2018 at 17:23
yeah but unfortunately there is NO WAY that we could do something about it.
October 1, 2018 at 15:55
I’m sorry it ended that way. You would have been better to refer them directly to the reciprocity guidance that states police certs are unreliable and not required. That might have saved some time.
October 1, 2018 at 17:19
Thank you Brit, I always appreciate your efforts. you do your best to help others. you don’t have to be sorry at all. regarding the time i have to say that i submitted doc on time even before the date they requested. Btw It’s just unfortunate!
October 1, 2018 at 14:27
Dear Brit,
Thanks for your all support,
I am from Afg, case 2018AS96xx,
My case was in AP, but regretfully still in AP, and I couldn’t got a chance to get my visa!
I will try for 2010!
Thanks,
October 1, 2018 at 15:56
2010 is over – try for 2020 🙂
October 1, 2018 at 14:03
Thanks God that the 2018-2019 process is done, as for me I wouldn’t give out, I will keep trying until one I will made, no matter I become the loser of 2018-2019 DV process, thanks you also for your update.
October 1, 2018 at 11:13
r u from nepal? enter us before the visa expiration date. if the date of visa expires then your visa wont have any value and you cannot renew your visa like others. so go to us then stay 3 4 days there and return back to your counter then move back to us within 1 year thats it.
October 1, 2018 at 11:04
Dear sir / madam
i am winner of 2018 and i already got the visa but i am planing to go to usa on 12 nov 2019.. whereas the dv lottery 2018 is already ended is there will be a problem or not sir ??? at the visa there given expire date is december 06, 2018
October 1, 2018 at 11:17
go us before that date and you may return after 3 4 days and again enter us within 1 year. if visa expires before you travel to us it wont be renewed and you wont be allowed to enter us with that visa . have fun . r u from nepal
October 1, 2018 at 14:03
No problem.
October 1, 2018 at 14:49
sir does it mean person who wons visa through dv can move to us even after visa expiration date for the first time?
October 1, 2018 at 15:51
No. It means I applied some common sense and realized that the original poster meant he/she was travelling in November 2018 – which is prior to the visa expiry date.
October 1, 2018 at 08:17
It was indeed an exciting and challenging year for all the excitement month after month but above all I think it was a journey that worth it. Thanks Brit for always answering my every question promptly and I very much appreciate every response that shape my life and made me successful in this journey and to all that did not make it to the final always believe that God as better plans for you…thank you 2018
October 1, 2018 at 07:13
Thanks MR.Brit , May God bless you .
October 1, 2018 at 06:47
Hi Simon, thanks for always updating us. My question is do you think we will have a second draw for dv2019? If yes when should we expect it? Thanks
October 1, 2018 at 13:51
I think it would have happened already if there had been a second draw.
October 1, 2018 at 04:26
Thanks for all the information you bring to us. Im a SA2018 winner and you helped me a lot. I will always recommend you.
